Christine Sheddy Case: Did Arson Play A Role In Her Murder ?

Pocomoke City, MD– Christine Sheddy was murdered on the Byrd Rd Farm in Pocomoke City on the evening of November 12, 2007.

The series of events that led up to her murder are stupifying.

Of Particular concern is the rash of fires occuring on the farm and within surrounding areas in the time frame of both of Christine’s visits there.

Pic1

As the September alarms are no longer accessible on the Pocomoke Volunteer Fire Department Site, you are looking at a cached version confirming the call to the farm and the fact that photos DID exist of what was assuredly a major fire. Three different stations responded at a minimum. The Images have been deleted.

The day before the Byrd road chicken house fire on September 20th, the Showell Fire Department extinguished this chicken house fire:

919chickenhouse

Also a cached version of deleted information from the PVFD site, is this October Alarm Source, through October 23rd, 2007:

Pic2

Effective October 1, 2007 the Worcester County Fire Marshalls Office takes over.

“..The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is responsible for conducting fire investigations of all fires in the County where arson is suspected, the fire is undetermined by the fire department, and/or an injury or death has occurred. The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is the local enforcing agency for 3 municipalities and the County…”

Note the October 10th alarm for yet again, a subsequent fire in the chickenhouse on Byrd Road.

On October 11, the neighbors who have already been vicitmized by the Clarence Butch “ Jr” Jackson crew, are victimized again. As you can see the Fire Marshall visits Byrd Road.

What the record does not say, is that the neighbors are awakened at 3 am by the Fire Marshall and Deputy Parnell from the PCPD. They were told if they called the Fire Department one more time for fires on the neighboring property, they would be arrested.

On the exact same day that JR Jackson unsuccessfully seeks peace orders against the neighbors that are simply trying to avoid the menace of his existance at this point are denied on October 13th; there is another chicken house fire. Fire Police and Pocomoke PD are in attendance.

Another outside fire call on October 17th. There is no data past October 23rd on fire activity available for this time frame.

The November calls have been deleted entirely by the Pocomake VFD. The site is managed and maintained by “Choppy Layton” a long time Vounteer Fire Fighter and by all accounts, a solid guy.

What is astounding, is that I am in receipt of an email that confirms a witness gave a statement to Detective Trautman, the original detective in this case, on February 12, 2008.

Should we consider it a coincidence then, that the last time the PVFD site is updated, and apparently when the November alarms were deleted is February 12, 2008?

Pic3

We have eyewitness accounts of fires on the Byrd Road farmhouse from November 9th through the 13th at a minimum. Fire Police and Marshalls have been to the property.  By my accounting, we are talking in the neighborhood of 12 fire alarms to this property alone, starting one month after an emergency outdoor burn ban.

Why hasn’t Clarence Jackson been charged with arson?

Any other suspects? Dead Issue? We know there are surveillance still pictures and security guard witnesses, what did they see?

What is the ratio of alarm calls versus arson arrests?

I digress.

Who was copied on the confirmation email containing a witness statement on February 12, 2008?

Michael McDermott.

Another thing, since I was told that Fabienne died in The Blue Top Cottages in Ocean City, not her home, why would Salisbury PD have that information? If the autopsy was indeed preformed, that is done at the Medical Examiners office in Baltimore. Thanks in advance

Hugs to Blink and the team!

I know that you are working so hard – putting in your hundreds of hours – just to help a family. Hate to see you getting bashed during this process.

In truth, you aren’t revealing anything that wouldn’t have been revealed 100 times over if the national media had run with the case.

Blink isn’t a lawyer who has to prove things beyond a reasonable doubt. She is an investigative journalist, who examines cases, gathers facts, asks questions, looks for inconsistencies, etc.

Every missing woman case is handled like a puzzle. Each and every person and place and thing is one of the puzzle pieces that either fits in or it doesn’t.

To me, what Blink is doing is exactly what all investigative journalists do – examine scenarios, examine likely connections, notice strange events, test theories.

Leave it to law enforcement to prove the case. If they are doing their jobs properly, I can guarantee that they are asking a lot of the same questions that Blink and team are asking.

Yes, law enforcement would be asking these questions in a private forum. The national news media would be asking the same questions in a much more public forum.

Blink is asking it in front of a select audience who cares about Christine, and about missing women cases, in general.

As far as blasting Blink on the use of hypothesis:

All problem-solving, crime-solving, scientific, and mathematical proofs starts with hypothesis. It is a valid part of the process.

Asking questions and noticing relationships between people is not the same as accusing anyone of anything.

    It is a necessary step.

Homegrown, why must you threaten to “continue” what you started on here? By the way, Blink isn’t stumped. Blink is rarely stumped and when she is, it won’t be by the Pocomokians such as yourself. We know oh so much more than you think we do so why don’t you stop your ranting and HELP find Christine? SHE and her babies are why we are here.

If you truly want to see justice done in the disappearance of Christine as you said, then use your obviously strong command of the written word and pull your army together to assist in the justice! You live right there! You have access physically to offices, records, information, people and places that you can use to help instead of bashing.

Just today I could feel the ground shake with uncovered information. My jaw aches from clenching my teeth in anger at what occurs in that county – and the whole state for that matter.

My heart aches for the innocent townspeople that have to live there knowing, hearing and experiencing what goes on. Such a beautiful place with many (not all) ugly evil people. You CAN change it. Only you all can. You have a job to do. Focus your energy in that direction. It’s dirty and really needs cleaning – Change it!

PS Really pretty “Miss Fire Prevention”. She deserves a healthy place to live her life don’t you think?

  17. Charity says:

#158, those incidents don’t surprise me, because we have had VFD firefighters near me do acts of arson, too.

I guess it is fairly common.

There are a lot of studies about that phenomenon.

I was reading one of the studies and it mentioned how important it is for the VFD’s to monitor its members for signs of it, but how touchy everybody gets even to consider it a possibility.

So, it appears the new Miss Fire Prevention is one Taylor Layton . . . hmmmm, a relation to Choppy Layton, the PVFD computer whiz? Granddaughter, niece maybe? Thus the identity of the laboriously windy and loudly protesting HomeGrown is perhaps revealed?

http://www.pocomokefire.com/ (scroll down to see picture)

Well, Mr. Fireman, sir – if we are unable to appeal to your integrity as a fireman and representative of your fine city, how about your heart or compassion as a grandfather, uncle, or relative of some sort? How would you feel if the pretty young lady pictured on your web site disappeared under suspicious circumstances, was presumed murdered, and no one cared? No one would help you? If you were left alone to deal with your grief and frustration for 2 long years? What would that do to your family?

As mentioned by others here, thou does protest WAAAY too much . . . embarrassment and shame are karmic elements which may well be drifting your way sooner than you think . . .

  25. boo says:

Oh and the meth article also lists info on “Tweakers” the most severe meth abuse. Tweakers get a false feeling of euphoria, excitability. It says they may not sleep for as much as 3-15 days at a time. Bummer!!!!

  26. Gypsy DD says:

Hmmm…Good work Blink and her team.. Seems like you have hit a nerve.

The question about why Salisbury LE would have any info on Fab’s death maybe because she would have been taken to Salisbury Hospital from Ocean City..that is the closet hospital. That hospital may have needed to make a report to Salisbury PD due to the circumstances of her death. Or I could be way off on that assumption.

Anyhow..being September 11th..just wanted to shout out to all LEO’S AND Fire Department and Emergency workers..no one will ever forget watching these brave men and women rush into the buildings at the World Trade Center while others were rushing away. Please understand no one here is in any way trying to diminish the job these brave people do on a daily basis.

Now lets get cracking and bring Christine home to her family.

As always just my humble opinion stated here.

  28. i4ni says:

    Just a few thoughts.

When a violent sex offender is exposed, many veiw it as an attack on the entire fire co he is attached to. It is not, however it raises the question, why was he not dismissed. This is a valid question.

Missing records. the timing of these records disappearing is suspect. Another valid question.

99 people listed as defendants in a rico case, a large number of those live and work in worcester co., including mayor Mcdermott.
Homegrown posted on public eye that this was irrelivant because it happened in 1998. I disagree, makes a case for pattern of corruption, most of all police cover up ( falsifying police records ).

Why are the citizens of pocomoke who prior to the recent events asked for change in the corrupt pocomoke political machine, now singing a new tune and asking for citizens to stand up for the mayor?

It seems that after being smacked in the forehead by the two by four of truth, these people would rather stick their head in the sand and deny what they have been saying all along. Why? Make me wonder what has changed.

Especially on a day like today, it hurts my heart. Reporting relevant information, and then those who don’t like the spotlight turning it into a personal issue is patently wrong. We ask questions that are valid in the efforts to locate Christine Sheddy, we got hissed at. In the article I posted a link to yesterday, the chief in Salisbury where the FF was arrested for impersonating a cop, stated he had never had anyone arrested on his Battalion before. In contrast, Mr. Hall gets a 7 count indictment for incidents occuring over a year time span that we know of, changes the spelling of his name and again the backlash is misplaced.
If I were a FF, and I was not told that, I would flip. Their is a pending motion in the ATF right now for mandatory background checks so people, let me tell you, it is going to be something that needs to be dealt with. We are not here to do anything other than find Christine Sheddy and the persons responsible. The good citizens of Pocomoke will have to decide what’s in store for their community as a result.

God Bless every man woman and child that lost their lives 8 years ago today.

Can I ask what makes you think he isn’t the actual killer? I’m not sure he was even there when it happened, although I believe he knows everything!

  30. Charisse says:

#178, see that’s the problem, if this wasn’t a town that was known for so much corruption, we could just be discussing JR and Justin and Tia, and not having to look at all this other stuff.

In fact, we wouldn’t even be here…because they would have done the right thing, back in November 2007, bringing justice to this family.

Or, even perhaps before that, arresting JR back in October, so that he would have been so busy with the law that Christine wouldn’t have died to begin with.

  31. PamTX says:

Why are the roadblocks to finding Christine so massive? It is just plain selfish and there is no other word for it. Between the lines, certain comments read… “me, me, me, me”. Someone in that city must understand that the way to clear their air and take the attention off of certain issues, is to band together and help find this poor young woman. It is obvious that some commenters don’t know how to feel…or remember that there are three children without a mother…or think deeply about what that really means. I just can’t put words to it.

In the process of very obvious, self-preservation techniques of some commenters, I can “guaran-darn-tee-ya” that Christine is not preserved. Do we really have to roll into the holiday season before passion of the heart surfaces and everyone’s guard comes down to help find Christine?

Please tell us that nothing is getting in the way of ground searches for Christine and that officials in the city are assisting. God Bless you all on this day of rememberance.

  32. Charisse says:

I guess I am totally naive when it comes to corruption. I am in my mid-40′s and I have never really seen corruption before, except on television.

Curious about the corruption in Pocomoke.

I know that I have read about drug and drug money related corruption.

Apart from that, the case mentions:

    corruption in the courts,
corruption in the county, city and town Boards of Commissioners
    and corruption law enforcement agencies

I’ve watched enough television to guess what corruption in the courts and with law enforcement agencies might mean, but I am curious what corruption in the Board of Commissioners means.

  33. pcityrez says:

untruth 2- PCVFC has standards well above what u state- Pick up an application and see
What good is an application if the standards aren’t applied to their own members. I have reviewed the application, it states a required criminal background check and nobody can have a felony.. Hall was convicted when he was with the FD 6 years.. Untruth 3- there are and never have been any missing fire reports or alterations to official fire reports.
untruth 4- I do not think???or at least I have learned that homegrown is not the grandfather u think. Layton is as good a man that has ever walked the face of the earth and dedicates his life to a widw range of charities.Softspoken and would not engage in this knd of bantering.
I have heard he was a good guy, which I stated. What’s your issue?
untruth 5 -funding comparisons of WCVFC’s. The entire county is volunteer….Thus the funding from govt to help sustain it’s 10 or eleven companies.
Sorry, come back with your budgets and facts, that is a complete oversimplification, we did our homework.
Murder Investigation-And since when is this investigation officially a murder investigation, albeit statistics will tell u that Christine may no longer be with us.
I am telling you it is a homicide investigation because she was murdered, and there is no evidence she ever left the farm, that’s as much as I will say on here, but that is exactly the kind of rhetoric that got your Pocomoke such a “look see”. You cant really be insulting reasonable people with this crap.
Untruth about fires in the county- Fires on private property are allowed except during a burning ban, and even then under certain circumstances.
Can you read? These were fires that resulted in ALARMS.. If they were legal, why was the FD called. If your the official peddler of crap for the fire dept on the “calls in question” this is worse than I thought.

That poster attacks us on another site, and then comes over here and compliments us and espouses words of encouragement within minutes; I discovered this when I was asked to review it. This is not some sort of a game. I wonder how childish one would behave if their daughter was buried in someone else’s community? I do not and will not allow it.

The bottom line is this: If those fires had been investigated appropriately, and JR Jackson and any accomplices were charged, Christine would be alive.

I realize that is a painful realization to a community. I empathize strongly. I simply say- what if it was your child? A community is not to blame for the position they were forced in. The leaders in that community who made decisions not to progress investigations are. Hold them accountable and stop placing blame at those whose sole agenda is to bring Christine Sheddy home. Period.

Any word on where the suspects are now? Are they in Tennessee as first was thought or are they in Texas as was speculated?

Was it ever discovered or confirmed which person from the Fire Marshal’s office told the neighbors to no longer call the FD, and what office the LE officer was from as he was noted to have not been a member of the Pocomoke force.

    Thanks

If you are referring to Jr, yes he is in Tennesee. I have never been told the name of the Fire Marshall or Fire PD, I understand there are 2 different visits to the property as posted from the cached page. The name of Deputy Parnell was given directly from the neighbor they visited, to more than one person.
    B

  44. Al Mill says:

Additionally, referring to my FBI comment, I know this has been commented on before, but I don’t think ever answered… Why are we assuming the State authorities aren’t wired into this mess, too? Why haven’t they stepped in sooner to stop this corrupt town from operating this way? Is that maybe another good reason to bring in the feds?

The FBI will not interject themselves without the request of law enforcement, it is protocol. There are some exceptions to that, however, to my knowledge, Christine’s case does not fit that criteria.
What is possible though, is for the ATF to become involved on the fire (s) angle. I have found that agencies work to be pristine. As I said in a previous post, they are awaiting a 60 day response period for background checks on all volunteers. Many FD’s have already put that in place, but I think that is a great way to attract great personnel, and probably grants, which are badly needed in some areas.
    B

  45. Homegrown says:

    JD,
I’m sorry about whatever happened to Christine. You have had and still do have the “entire” community behind you on wanting to help you determine her fate. Blink is not doing her or you justice. They have rendered themselves ineffective in this case by alienating this community. There is no evidence that they are being any help to LE as they claim. When asked to show evidence for the outlandish statements they make they make excuses or doubletalk around it. I know you would do anything to find your loved one, but beware of a let down from blink on this one.

You have been asked repeatedly for contrary evidence, your answer is to attack us. This is an open investigation, I will not be bullied into giving information I have committed not to. Period. If you had any inside knowledge, you would already know what I am saying is true. I am done debating this issue.

    MEH,

Most of those who post on this site have been following Blink for a long time, through many cases, not just this one. We all know the type of person Blink is: kind, caring, compassionate, respectful, and very fair. She is the voice for victims who might otherwise not have one.

Yes, sometimes we disagree, but we disagree respectfully. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Blink does not necessarily agree with every comment on this site. She states what she believes, corrects people if she knows them to be wrong, and corrects herself if she finds that she has made an error.

Blink dedicates her time, resources and efforts to righting wrongs, helping victims and their families, giving people hope, and finding justice.

Blink and her team are highly respected here. As are many of the very intelligent, informative posters, who comment here on a regular basis.

The only people who are making this an “unproductive” site, are selfish, self-centered people like you, who just want to argue, disrespect, and dishonor the memory of a beautiful, murdered mother of three.

Christine deserves to be found, and she deserves justice.

People coming over here from the tattler to bash and disrupt things are wasting valuable time, and it’s not going to help anything — but it will not hurt this investigation either. Blink will finish what she started, and it will not be over until Christine is home.

Keep up the good work, Blink and team. The respect and admiration I have for you is beyond words.

189…I’m thinking more like they were making sure it was as inconspicuous as possible.

I just went to the poco public eye website and was reading some of the comments. Example:

    “Anonymous said…
When that’s all you got, 7:17, that’s what you do.
I would like her (Blink)to tell the name of the detective in which she has given information. It shouldn’t be a secret.
    7:25 PM”

“It shouldn’t be a secret huh???”

Okay…99.9% of the comments on there are from “ANONYMOUS”. Okay so under the blanket of “ANONYMOUS”, they can write countless NASTY comments about Blink and Blinks associates, who are working very hard to find answers for Christines family after almost TWO YEARS. Nasty and extremely childish I might add. They know her name. Why don’t they use THEIR real names and let everyone delve into THEIR personal lives and pick THEIR skeletons in THEIR closets apart????

“What is YOUR name? How many times have YOU been married?”

Who cares??? It has nothing to do with Christine Sheddy.

“Why are YOU posting under ANONYMOUS?”

What a bunch of children. What grade are they in? Sixth? They are afraid of the truth. That is what this all boils down to. People are afraid of the truth. That is all Blink is doing here, telling the truth and they can’t stand it.

“If YOU didn’t do anything WRONG, YOU would not be so INSULTED.”

They all need to grow up.

Every site owner and every poster is independently responsible for their content, period. There is no such thing as anonymous in cyberland anymore. You post it, you own it. You allow it to be posted on your blog or site, it’s your responsibility, that’s all we will comment about that. Makes you wonder what could be possible if people turned their energies into worthy causes desperate for it.

Blink, I think it’s pretty obvious that this crime to Christina is close to being solved. I do think this goes deeper than anyone thought it would ever be except for her family. They were dealing with this community’s cover up or whatever it is for along time. I can’t imagine the anger of some the people commenting on here unless it involves them in some way. I think that meh does indeed have something he is guilty of or hiding and has probably been doing this for along time. Alot of people say this corruption has nothing to do with Christina but in the big picture it does. It is because of the secrets in this community that her death was not taken seriously or investigated. If this corruption is not dealt with there will be other murders or crimes committed because of what this town has allowed to run rampant. I know that there are citizens in this community who are kind, caring, proud and hard working people. I am not saying there are not other communities who have issues. Within our own families we have issues. My son is in prison right now for past drug issues. However, I did not lie for him or try to impede LE. Thankfully it was addressed before anything worse could happen and he can now say he is thankful for the intervention. My wish would be that the community as a whole realize that there needs to be cooperation from everyone, even if the dirty laundry comes out.
Only then can they heal and became a great community that they probably were in the past. Blink, you and your team are doing a great job. Good luck Kim

My observation in all this defensive rhetoric by the community of Pocomoke..if you had spent this time looking for Christine and solving this crime we wouldn’t be here today.

What narcissus you are..worried about how the community looks, how individuals look, how you look..but not about a murdered young mother. I think you have all definitely shown your true colors. While certain individuals are busy covering their posteriors, Blink and crew are busy finding the missing and bringing them home to rest.

We will not stop until Christine is brought home to her family. We have not broken any laws, overstepped any boundaries, nor hidden behind deception. Now back to your lairs to lick your wounds. We have work to do.
