Charlottesville, VA– Just passing the month mark, the disappearance of Morgan Harrington from the John Paul Jones Area located on the UVA campus, leaves us with more questions than answers. Part II

The Faces of Her Facebook

Help Find Morgan Harrington was developed by a few concerned individuals interested in spreading the word about Morgan’s disappearance and boasts over 30,000 members. Not all posts are welcome.

NelsonIn particular, a member by the name of Nelson Kane was recently banned for posting very detailed hypothesis scenarios that sparked a firestorm of interest in the self-appointed athlete scout. His posts were deleted at the request of Law Enforcement who admit tasking two officers with monitoring the web for such activity in Morgan’s case.

Additionally, Mr. Kane reached out to several individuals on facebook as well as the Harrington family’s findmorgan.com site in attempts to speak to the family directly and request an interview. The Harrington’s were made aware of the concern for such requests by sources close to the investigation.

He has recently changed his facebook drastically. Nkoldfacebook

Mr. Kane, a member of the family owning the longtime furniture store of the same name in Charlottesville is also a UVA alumni and season ticket holder. In addition to UVA, Kane also claims to have attended Virginia Tech on many of his many social networking profiles. He also fancies himself as somewhat of a Rock band critic.

On his site, nkscouting.com which he has maintained Nkane1since 2001, Kane chronicles his trips to scout mostly High School basketball and football athletes. In an effort to make his site more interesting (his words) he details the travel experience, routes, times and in some cases photos of his visits to High Schools mostly within a few hours driving distance.

Very early on in Morgan’s case, blinkoncrime.com explored the idea that perhaps the double murder of VT freshmen David Metzler and Heidi Childs on August 27th should be investigated as a possible link to Morgan’s case simply because they attend the school and Morgan and Heidi bare a remarkable resemblance to one another.

As far as very odd coincidences go, the location of Nelson Kane’s scouting foray the evening of the August 28th could not be more relevant.

Kane scouted the game at Jefferson Forest High School. The very Kane0828School Heidi Childs graduated from a year earlier. Unlike most of Kane’s other journal entries of his athlete accolades, there is no mention of his travel experience to or from Forest High School so it is unclear where he left from, when he got there, or when he returned home.

This is in no way an accusation that Mr. Kane had any involvement whatsoever in such a heinous crime, of course, but given his proclivities for leaving at all hours of the day and night his keen attention to travel detail and familiarity with the area: Perhaps he saw someone or something amiss in his trip that could help investigators.

Nk1017a

On Saturday October 17th, Kane scouts a game, listens to the UVA football game on his way home and is home in plenty of time to make the concert.

Blink how do you know he was at the concert you ask? I do not. I do know he knows alot about security at the JPJ Arena, how to navigate the different lots near Uhall, and of course that there are blue portable lavatories next to Lanigan Field. OK I finally figured out your reference to mile marker 105 Blink…you’ve been talking about MM 105 on Rt. 64, which is about two miles West of the Crozet exit…the rest stop. Duh. This is the last place to stop before heading over the mountain at Afton, and I believe can be accessed through woods from the Greenwood/Newtown area. There is a rest stop on both sides of the highway…but this one on the West side might be what you’re interested in. If you google Greenwood Road, or the the Greenwood post office, you might be able to see the location on 64. I don’t think BG would have been wiggling around on these county roads unless he really knows this area, but 64 is straight and easy, and that rest stop is in-and-out.

still stuck on why the battery was missing. When I take my teens phones away for disciplinary reasons they always remove the battery before handing it over so I can’t read the texts messages or any new ones that come in while its in my posession. I wonder if Morgan sensed trouble and didn’t want him to be able to see who she had been texting, calling, pics, etc.?

  3. sue says:

The only thing required to obtain a search warrant is probable cause and a warrant can be obtained in a matter of hours or faster. They are at times done over the phone when time is of the essence. Paperwork to follow.

If warrants haven’t been obtained in this case, it would be because there is no probable cause.

Sue, respectfully, I completely disagree. A prob cause warrant is based on a judge’s acceptance of prob cause, based on rules of evidence. CSI is CSI. I once worked on a case ( loose on descript as still on prosecution phase) where the perps literally had the lux of 3 separate warrant motions before one was granted, 65 days apart. It is not the wave of a wand in a case lacking physical evidence or other.

That is indeed an odd caption on the photo of MH and SS.

I, personally, have not ruled out the possibility that Morgan willingly disappeared. If SS had been instructed to stay quiet about the case, I would not be surprised if she would try to communicate through a hidden message especially when the finger of public suspicion started to point in her direction.

It’s possible “battery” is a place, too. (The Battery, NY, etc.)

Still, it’s certainly an odd caption.

  5. Weird says:

Blink, going off Morgan for a second. I know you were aware of the crazy post that Nelson Kane made on the FB group regarding his ‘scenario’ about what might have happened to MH. My question is, was he questioned for the Cassandra Morton case? What if his scenario was pertaining to something that might have happened with CM? His FB page showed that he was interested in black women…what if he was in that area that night, saw CM walking and offered her a ride?

    Just throwing that out there.

The info below is likely not important, but luvblink 1546 points out the “listing self as female” weirdness of DW.

Also weird: DW mentions attending two HS’s in different states. I Googled the HS s/he mentions graduating from on m’space plus “reunion”, looking for a 10th (since that would likely be the most recent major one a 30 y/o would typically attend–didn’t look for a 5th). I ended up at Evite’s archive for that event, and saw no one with those initials or first name–the invite seems to name ALL invited alums: yesses/noes/maybe’s/non-reply-the whole grad. class. If DW were still in C’ville, wouldn’t ya think s/he’d be easy to locate–if that school was really attended?

No disrespect meant by using s/he–I’m just starting to wonder at that person’s true ID.

Speaking of tracphones or pay as you go. I am the holder of one of those babies. It works great. I was able to place calls from Hawaii on mine. You buy the phone and then you purchase a card for so much money. Say a $20.00 dollar card. So if all of that is cash purchases … then no trail.

IMPORTANT: But and there is always a but. You do have a phone number assigned to each of these phones. LE could easily get the numbers that trac phone number 916-xxx-xxxx has been calling and I think that is how they could find the owner/holder of that phone.

With those phones you have to “top off” every three months. You can do that by buying another money card and plugging in the numbers on the back of the card or you can do it through credit card. So if by credit card…gotcha again.
You are required to “top off” every three months with $20.00 to keep the phone active.
Hope this helps in understanding how these phones work.

  9. localcvillegirl says:

Someone has probably already corrected me but the rest stop on 64 West is between the Ivy and Crozet exits. The rest stop at mile marker 105 is on the East bound side of the highway…not accessible from the West bound side because of the median.

  10. Bean says:

Battery is a Metallica tribute band. I’m guessing the caption for the picture means they were at a show when it was taken.

  11. melissa says:

#1549…Don’t think it means anything, look at the day pic was uploaded. ‘Battery’ in my town is a place, I dunno but surely not pertaining to the cell phone.

  12. localcvillegirl says:

I was wrong…someone has probably already corrected me, but the rest stop on 64W is between the Ivy and Crozet exits. The rest stop at mile marker 105 is over in the Eastbound side of 64, not accessible from 64W because of the median, but there is an emergency cross over about 500 yards past mm 105. Very wooded on the Westbound side, but the rest stop on the other side sits before some of the prettiest, open, farmland in Albemarle County. This is the Rockfish Gap area. Sorry if this has all been hashed and re-hashed.

Morning all: I have been researching some historical missing persons cases on line, with similar aspects of Morgans dissappearance. Hoping to be able to draw some possible clues etc…..to be able to apply to this case. In my digging, and then more digging, I stumbled across this case, and as I began reading deeper into the story/case, I was chilled at the contrasting similarities of this case. I am posting this link for you all. If you have time to read this, you will be able to know what I mean. We are headed in the right direction I believe. Coincidentally, this was a missing college student from Virginia.

  19. questioner says:

Dee was at the concert, has been mistaken for Morgan more than once on video’s and we also know that Dee knew Morgan and the “friends” who were also there, and she was also aware and had spoken to one of the girls in Morgan’s party that one of their party was missing.

If Dee wasn’t in the vehicle going to the concert, then who did she ride with? Did she go alone? So, there was at least one more vehicle there, that Dee came in. Could THAT be a puzzle piece?

Personally, I think comparing the 2 ladies activities and timelines for the evening would go a long way in debunking or putting other sightings in play.

Does anyone know if they searched the area near Camp Holiday Trails? It would be the 1st exit off of 29S after exiting 250. Even if it has been searched, although it is technically closed for the season, they do rent out the dining hall for parties in the off season. I would definitely ask the CHT people if it was rented on 10/17 and talk to people who were there re any vehicles they may have seen. The road is narrow and there are places where you would have to back up or pull off to allow another car to pass. Just a thought.

  21. skyler says:

hmmmmmmm — I have zero experience about what happens “prior” to an arrest — my part comes in after an arrest has been made and there is a trial —

    “Maj. GoodLuckWith That ” — LOL !!!

I am not a callous person — however, when I’ve heard of MP cases, or when the remains are found — my heart goes out to the family, but I have to confess, after that it usually leaves my consciousness —

Morgan is the first MP case I’ve ever followed like this — I don’t know why she touches me so much — maybe it’s because I was so close to her, and missed her literally by minutes; I drove over the Copley Bridge twice between probably 9:15 and 9:30 — maybe it’s because I feel such empathy and sympathy and just gut-wrenching sorrow for her parents — maybe it’s because I felt such relief in standing firm against my own child and insisting that if he wanted to go to this concert, I was driving him — even though he is 18 and now lives on his own (w/ a roommie), my “mommie meter” had been buzzing since the day I purchased the tickets until I parked in the driveway at 2:30 AM after the concert —

we are now nearing the 60-day mark of Morgan missing — w/ not much more info than we knew at the beginning — I don’t know if that is normal in cases like this — I am not a “sit on the sidelines” type of person — never have been –

This is where I have trouble understanding — there is money available — a lot of money available — 50 grand — no strings attached — I did some research on missing persons after this — in cases which were eventually solved, a lot of times it has been after the family has hired a PI — usually years later —

In the one murder case I did, it started out as a civil case — after the ins. company hired a PI to investigate — at least 2 years later — and after the civil case was over, they turned all of the investigative information over to LE and they reopened the case they had deemed an accidental death and now the SOB is sitting in jail —

I know that there are private forensic labs — take some of that Metallica money and hire a lab, have their investigators come and process Morgan’s apt., process her car, process her phone, process her room at home — a PI can talk to people that perhaps LE can’t –

And that is my dilemma — I don’t understand why this case is stagnant —

At the very least, I would set up a 24-hr tip line — and there are so many people everywhere who would be willing to volunteer their time to man that line — then hire a PI firm to follow up on those leads where perhaps LE doesn’t have the man hrs to devote to it —

I don’t mean to rant — I certainly do not mean to berate the Harringtons in any manner — but every day away from the time of the abduction is a day potential evidence is lost —

So will somebody please enlighten me why we just have to sit and do nothing ?

    B, skyler (re: #1538/1544)
I was not considering the thought that DH inadvertantly bought a ticket for exBF, just that perhaps exBF had plans of his own to attend the concert – thus, there’s a chance his pre-purchased ticket was never scanned, which may contribute another thin layer to the circumstantial evidence (possibly) surrounding the case against POI.

B, your “Brrrrrring” scenario was disheartening but helpful.

  24. Katts says:

First time poster . Been following the blog. Just a thought: Possibly Morgan was anorexic, which would explain the visible weight fluctuation. I’m certainly not a doctor, but anorexia is supposedly associated with emotional immaturity/dependency which can be represented by impulsive and/or negative choices. Therein might lie the need for the parental intervention into Morgan’s finances and personal life. Even VERY best friends can be unaware.

  25. questioner says:

Spolarics, her boyfriend and three other guys went to the concert and say it was a great crowd. Afterward, they tried to meet up with friends, seated in another part of the arena. Those friends were mutual friends of Spolarics and Morgan Harrington.

“We call and [our friend] is like, ‘We’re actually missing somebody,’ one of the people she was with, and they’re like, ‘We don’t know what happened to her. She said she was getting a ride home, so we guess she’s fine,’ but so we’re like OK, we didn’t think anything of it and they went home,” says Spolarics.

More than a week later, those trying to find Harrington spotted a blond woman in video posted online and made a connection. Spolarics says she’s the one in the video and police agree.

“I thought I would say ‘oh that’s not me’ and it would be over, but people were coming up with theories,” says Spolarics.

Spolarics and Harrington are both average height, blond, college-aged women. The night of the concert they were both wearing black shirts, black mini-skirts and black boots.

  26. awa says:

look up “battery” in the urban legend dictionary… it is part of a metallica song, amongst other things

  27. Chad says:

In POI THEORY (proposed here BOC) the similarities of Morgans case and Taylor are:

    Both girls in college
both friends were separated from their friends and “vanished” into the darkness
Both young women had flurry of communication with friends before vanishing
POI may be someone Morgan may have been romantically linked with. In Taylors case it was very brief.
Both were very trusting, beautiful vibrant young women
eerie common simiarities: A bridge (Taylor’s body was found by a bridge)and a necklace( was found in perps trash can)
LE had quietly surveillanced a POI. Web sluething, My space.com, was extremely instrumental in solving Taylors case.
    Both young women from Virginia
Both young women dissappeared in the Fall
Suspect ex girlfriend brought LE to Taylors body, thus a confession

Guys, never underestimate the power of Blinks site, and yes, LE is probably reading this site. Let’s keep it going and keeping ideas and theories posted.
    Let’s bring Morgan home!

In regards to the battery……that’s interesting and also ironic that it would be a metallica song.

“We see a man who cannot control his temper, who surrounds himself with people half his age, who manufactures scary personae to attract girls into the troubled life of a disabled misfit, and who becomes obsessed with the young women who pass briefly through his life and then reject him, when they realize how damaged he is. He cannot accept their rejection and resorts to violent behavior. The question for the Richmond police is whether pretty, intelligent and classy Taylor became a victim of Ben’s anger when she tried to take their relationship from intimate to friendship. Could he stand to lose a prize like her?”
Marylin Bardsley commenting on the arrest of Ben Fawley in Taylor Behl murder.

  28. Counselor4u says:

I think by now we all have just about memorized the timeline given to us by LE.
Let’s begin to establish the geographic areas to which those in her social circle might be connected. That might include:
    Roanoke: Family resides here
    Blacksburg: Attends VT.
    Harrisonburg: Friends at JMU
    Charlottesville: Father associated with UVA.
Waynesboro: ?? Who or what might she have known here….any connections here??
If we can establish the social circle and geographic areas, then, we can possibly locate Morgan’s body and reunite her with her family. There are some very dedicated people who are presently working on their own to find Morgan. With additional information, we all might be closer to reuniting that family.
    Anyone?

Great Suggestion, but I have to be honest, I think the best place to start would be educating the hunters in the area as Observer posted early. Is there a suggestion for that enterprise?

  31. Observer says:

All: Have several thoughts (might anyone be surprised by that??) but am focused on other demands requiring my attention at this time. Will post later today as time permits.

  32. skyler says:

Hey, questioner, 567 — You are absolutely correct — however, there is a new video posted last week — I posted the link here on Friday, I think, but don’t know where it is now — it shows a “different” blonde — not Dee — who “may” be Morgan; this girl’s hair is much much longer than Dee’s and is straight — it is during the Lamb of God segment — and I “think” it shows BOTH Dee in a different area, and this other blonde, whom I really believe is Morgan —

My point is this — there is a female from Richmond, a bookkeeper, who was late to the concert — she arrived at the arena around 9 PM, and she says a blonde matching Morgan’s description, in the company of four males, dressed in black, walked out in front of her car — which she has reported to LE, and been interviewed —

By 9 PM, LOG had left the stage and the arena was “quiet” waiting for Metallica to come on stage — based on my conversation w/ my son at around 9:10, Metallica was not on stage — when I arrived at the arena at around 9:30-ish, Metallica was definitely on stage —

Blink is absolutely correct, if we can establish a time line for Dee — was she already in the arena at 9 PM ? — then it’s possible the girl the Richmond bookkeeper saw at 9 PM was Morgan — in the company of four males —

The LOG video is extremely important to me, anyway, because it answers the 2 questions: yes, she was inside the arena at least during that song, and here’s the photographic/video proof

You know, I feel really bad for Dee, too — she is just a young girl who went to a concert, and all of a sudden she’s drawn into a tragedy —

does anybody know Dee — Do any of you have kids at JMU that could ask her to give us a time line ?

I know the friends have buttoned up, but if they could give us a time line inside the arena when they were w/ Morgan — that would be so helpful, too — and I believe this LOG video may corroborate that Morgan is in the area w/ Sara at least for this song …

then at least we can separate fact from fiction on those issues —

Iwish I had prophetic dreams, and I could dream where Morgan is — however, I’m the one who used to dream all the time my teeth were falling out — and — that I failed my 12th grade English exam and so my college degree was not valid and I did some pretty big cases, and that all the work I had done on those cases was not valid — so I dream what’s on my mind …

Last night I dreamed this — we’re looking at an ex-BF — but what if Morgan’s capturer was *female* ? Either someone known to Morgan or completely a stranger —

If Morgan was HH’g, wouldn’t she feel comfortable/safe getting in the car w/ a female ?

I also have dreamed several times that the person who took her, pulled over into one of the scenic views heading east on 64 from 81 towards Charlottesville, at night, parked their car, had her in the trunk, and dumped her body over a rocky outcrop and there she lies —
the leaves were late this year — they were still on the trees in charlottesville On 10-17 — but we had a huge storm like a week or so later, and half the leaves fell then, so now her body is covered by leaves — in that scenario, hunters are not going to find her —

Again, sadly, I don’t have prophetic dreams — it’s why we need a PI who can do some research and answer some of these questions !

    Morgan, where are you ?

  33. sue says:

Quickly ie. the phone. I highly doubt that there is an untraceable phone number on someone’s phone. I don’t know much about disposable phones, but believe that there would have to be some kind of trail, as another poster pointed out above.

My theory is that someone has told LE that ‘Morgan asked to borrow my phone.’, hence, my interaction with her.

Perhaps it is LE’s way of legitimizing someone’s story.

  34. Mags says:

    Blink,

I think you are spot-on with the hunters. I would also suggest hunts (as in fox hunts). Charlottesville and the surrounding areas have fairly large fox hunts. While on horseback they travel over a lot of private and public land, wooded and open, in that area.

  35. kksmom says:

there are designated areas for hunters to “check in” their game kills as well as buy hunting licenses. Might not be a bad idea to ask business owners where there “check in stations” are located to have posters available to hand out.

  36. Counselor4u says:

    Blink,
Relative to educating the hunters….I’ll consult with my group and get back to you about that. I’m sure, if we brainstorm, we can come up with some innovative ideas about that.

Mr. B is an avid hunter, among many (area driven). These gentlemen stick together and know each others business. I run along a road Mr. B is not a fan of. I got a call on my BB the other day in the middle of it from Mr. B. A “friend” was in a tree stand and called him to say hey, I just saw Mrs. B.
Point is, these guys are very, very connected. Great Idea.
    B

  37. susanm says:

and discounts or freebies to anything hunting will get more hunters out there.

  38. Elizabeth says:

I think educating the hunters, joggers, four wheelers, bird watchers and snow mobilers in that area. Depends if it was a dump and run or a well thought out hide and seek disposal.

Someday we shall all have some kind of tracking device installed in each one of us. Then missing children and missing adults can be quickly recovered and their killers can be brought to justice. What a world we have become that what I propose is even thought of.

I have always thought if we can send a man to the moon..we can protect our own.

  39. kksmom says:

can some PI not put a tracking device on anybody’s vehicle? or is that just in the movies?

err, Not going there, but hypothetically, yes.

Hey Blink – please dont post this.

Maybe I am not understanding the ettiquette of this board, or have not been an avid contributor…so apologies in advance if I am doing anything wrong.

I was just wondering if you had any info to believe that the battery had been removed by someone other than Morgan…or if this was something that fit in to your theory and so you are standing by it.

Ive been trying to think outside the box…and I do believe Morgan removing the battery could have been the “rage trigger”.

I agree with Observor – the body is within 25 miles of JPJ.

Also, if the Harringtons or LE are monitoring this site, why dont they pull together another volunteer search in the areas this board has targeted? Its volunteer and the Harringtons would have the ability to do that, right?

To Katts -#1596 – I agree with you. I was a painkiller addict for 2 years, taking up to 12 oxycontin, perocet or vicodin a day. Not one of my friends knew or suspected anything, which I have always said is very scary. Even if it wasnt meth – I would have left a concert in search of painkillers for sure. There was a point where I was even stealing them. I am clean now, but I’ll tell you that every day is a battle, and if my boyfriend gets painkillers for his back or something, he has to keep them on him at all times in his work bag because the temptation is just too much. Its an addiction.

Not saying Morgan was a drug user, but, I guess we cant say she wasnt either.

Observer and Local, I don’t know why, but I keep thinking about the Misty Mountain campground out 250W, sort of b/n Crozet and Greenwood, and there’s a long-deserted motor lodge-type place that always gave me the creeps close to that. Are those two places still there, and do you know if people can still stay long term at Misty Mountain? Just curious because I know Crozet searches took place, I think I heard at Brownsville Mkt, but I also wonder if any LE talked to the folks at Misty Mountain. I saw there was a music festival planned on the grounds there the following weekend after MH went missing and wonder if any musically inclined people have been staying there (not incriminating musically inclined people! Just wondering what they might’ve heard or seen). I could be way off the mark, just thinking about the territory.

    Thanks Acho- any thoughts?

Really, if one stayed within Observer’s proposed 25 miles–and the logical rte b/n C’ville and Harrisonburg–there are all kinds of places to check even before we get to BRP/Skyline Dr. Such an odd stretch of incredibly beautiful farms (and $$$) and deserted/neglected spots. It’s already totally quiet along there by 9:30/10:00.

Blink, I am trying to think of Albemarle Co hunters’ groups I used to be aware of. Not coming up with much but plenty of places to post for hunters’ groups out 250W (again, Crozet–Brownsville Mkt–and Greenwood–Greenwood Store. Even in Ivy, at whatever that convenience store is at Ivy Corner. I used to live near there and saw hunters in and out). All nice, helpful people running these places who could spread the word to area hunters, although I suspect they’re aware.

Just wanted to drop by and say that there is location called, Battery, Virginia. It’s about 4.5 hours from Blacksburg and about 2.5 from Charlottesville.

RE: chad, 12/6, 8:39pm: First, thank you for your always-kind words.

I remain unconvinced that MH’s abductor was someone she knew or was familiar with “from a previous life”, e.g. an XBF. That scenario would certainly ring true to a great extent, and/or make her abduction that much easier; however, I am in no way ruling-out that this was a stranger abduction, however seemingly implausible or difficult to imagine.

Apologies again: intentionally no comment on a possible/probable POI in LE’s sights and whether or not said POI has been interviewed to date, re: the MH disappearance.

You are absolutely correct: There are many instances where a suspect has been identified, arrested, and charged without a body in evidence. The first that comes to mind is Stacy Peterson.

Rest assured: If LE had enough evidence to arrest someone, they would. Yesterday. Draw conclusion(s).

RE: mosaic 12/6, 9:41pm & wpgmouse 12/6, 11:15pm: Clarification: I did not intentionally omit reference to the JPJ arena. LE is of the mind that MH exited the CV area (meaning, Charlottesville city proper) in a vehicle. Am unable to stipulate more than that other than to say that LE firmly—-emphasis on “firmly”—-believes that MH is no longer in the CV area, and spent no significant, additional time in the CV area after the publicized timeline.

You stated it well, mosaic, when you said “…the surrounding mountains and undeveloped land seem a more likely place to find a missing person.” The “surrounding mountains and undeveloped land” are areas outside of CV, covering an area so expansive that it would make a successful ground search nigh impossible.

RE: wpgmouse, 12/6, 11:29pm: The person responsible for MH’s disappearance may (or, may not) live in/near CV. I do not believe that it is material to this investigation whether or not the individual had access to the residence of someone else living near CV, or had access to a facility nearby for any purposes associated with this case. I believe that the perpetrator left CV with MH and brought her to a point (outside) elsewhere, not to a residence or other facility.

RE: WordGirl, 12/6, 11:36pm: Mil gracias (TYVM) for your kind words…although “concise” is probably far too generous a way to characterize my lengthy posts.

RE: J2K, 12/7, 1:20am: Yes, I firmly believe that the case’s circumstantial aspects—in conjunction with other very troubling aspects of this case–are in large part hindering the prosecution.

On B’s response: I am not of the mind that a/the POI has retained counsel…as yet. [To this point the perpetrator believes he has successfully skirted the law...because unfortunately, he has. For now. Word, BG.] If/when he does retain counsel, the hypothetical conversation you describe would not be far from the truth.

RE: wpgmouse, 12/7, 1:30am: As mentioned in some/one of my earliest posts, the 25-mi. radius is selected because the BG, whether known by MH prior to Oct. 17 or not, would not want to transport MH for any significant distance in his vehicle. For several reasons he would want to separate himself from MH as rapidly as possible, ergo, the 25 mi. radius.

RE: sklyer, 12/7, 2:52am: As pointed out by b, please do not assume that MH’s parents have not already investigated the use of a P.I. to further the investigation into their daughter’s disappearance. [BTW: I failed to mention earlier: Your posts, along with J2K’s and certain others, are some of the most astute on this forum. I feel comfortable saying I speak for other posters in thanking you for that effort. This is not diminish at all the contributions of all the posters here, save the infamous "on belief".]

All: Just for thoughts’ sake, consider this scenario that I posed some time ago, with variations on the original theme:

MH “meets” someone (a new “friend”—“F”) on line. Prior to Oct. 17, 2009, she has not yet met him IRL.

Although by nature not a secretive person, MH chooses at first and for her own reasons to keep F unknown to her family and friends. She does not intend to keep him a secret; rather, she wants to meet him first before disclosing him to family/friends.

Inasmuch as MH’s father has her computer password(s), MH deletes messages or references to/from F. [Recoverable only if LE has initiated same.]

MH plans to meet F for the first time at the Metallica concert.

MH is very excited about this first meeting with F, as she tries on several outfits for her mom. She wears a Pantera—not Metallica—shirt to the (Metallica) concert. She wears her Swarovski crystal necklace, a very special gift given to her by her brother. This is an especially important evening in MH’s life.

MH’s initial plan with F is to spend time together during—but not at—the concert, meeting up with her friends following the concert to introduce them to F.

MH makes small talk with other concert-goers in the parking lot prior to the concert, saying “We’re here to see Metallica, right?”; subtle but intentional diversion.

MH departs JPJ to meet F, under the guise of going to the bathroom; witness her giving a friend a kiss goodbye. MH exits JPJ to meet F outside.

    One of two things occurs:
    1. F does not show up as planned. MH tries unsuccessfully to re-enter JPJ, is denied re-entry, and begins wandering around outside. MH meets up in some way, shape, or form w/ a BG. End-game.
    2. F shows up but turns out not to be what MH had anticipated. [MH does not know it yet, but F is a BG.] MH reconsiders spending time that evening w/ F and instead attempts to re-enter JPJ. After being denied re-entry, MH wanders around and either (1) above occurs; i.e., she encounters a BG; or (2) F/BG attempts to gain MH’s trust and is successful in getting MH into his vehicle. End-game.

    Notes:
    a. Add to the above scenario: MH is under the influence, causing impaired judgment. [I do not believe that MH od’d or suffered from narcotic addiction.]
    b. MH has experienced personal difficulties in the recent past as evidenced in two separate instances in her own writing. While these concerns are decidedly not psychiatric in nature, MH is a somewhat fragile individual, increasing her emotional vulnerability.
    c. Gil Harrington’s “talking to” MH’s assailant in her blog entries, etc. is an attempt to speak directly to the BG, appealing to him as a mother would. Gil’s words are not necessarily an indication that she knows to whom she’s speaking.
