Morgan Harrington Murder: Picture of Morgans Boot Released

Posted by BOC Staff | Alex Harrington,Anchorage Farm,Dan Harrington,Gil Harrington,Morgan Harrington | Thursday 1 April 2010 1:01 pm

Charlottesville, VA– Morgan Harringtons killers have not been apprehended.

Morgan was brutally slain, presumably, the evening of October 17th, 2009 after she went missing from the John Paul Jones Arena, located on the grounds of The University of Virginia. Her remains were recovered on January 26th, 2010 on the grounds of Anchorage Farm in Charlottesville, VA.

There have been countless witness accounts and reported sightings of Morgan since she vanished from JPJ, most of which, have been prefaced by stating “ or a person matching Morgan’s description”, so we are truly left to sift through what is accurate, and what is a well intentioned bystander.

One of the most conflicting item descriptions, is that of the boots she was wearing that fateful evening.

Below is a picture of the boot Morgan was wearing the evening of October 17, 2009, as confirmed by Morgan’s Mother Gil Harrington, to be “spot on”.

MorgBoot Boc

As you can see, it has no laces, and a cuff of approximately 3” that can be worn EITHER at the knee, or above, as reported by the witness who believes she saw Morgan walking away from JPJ with 4 men young men dressed in black, and again in the lot adjacent to Uhall.

Additionally confirmed to blinkoncrime.com, Morgan was wearing “footless” tights or leggings, which would require additional socks.

Morgan was known for the very distinctive socks she wore under these boots.

There is currently a $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction for anyone responsible for the death of Morgan Harrington.

susanm, lol, I’ll take “it sounds crazy to me, and I doubt it, but I guess it’s possible in some far fetched way” as a seal of approval for my patented up-the-driveway theory. Cow season also cracked me up (I’m picturing little calf heads popping up out of the garden, and the good farmer watering them). Bass will keep his cows there year round; they’re really pretty low maintenance, and a huge tax savings.

I’ve often wondered aloud (post-wise) what kinds of interior fencing he has in his fields. He leaves his front gate open, so the cows must be behind OTHER fences, or else he has cattle guards (treacherous grates in the driveway that cows won’t walk across—which I don’t recall noticing in that pic of AF that shows the driveway, but which I guess I haven’t gone looking for…hmmm). Anyway, he seems to be able to keep his cows off the road,, and in one field or another, so must have fences that separate the fields—–so to get from the front drive to where she was found you might have to occasionally stop the car, jump out and open a gate, drive thru, hop out and close it behind you again (or leave it open for your return, if you are just dumping her body out of your car and heading back quickly). The cows themselves are not generally obstacles; you can go around them if they don’t move, but they usually do without honking. And if it was rainy they might have been standing in the woods or the barn, if that’s open to them, so might not have figured in the scenario at all.

  2. suz says:

Eloise, I think the witness statements say she was seen walking in the same direction as, but not necessarily with, people in the parking lot. I think *we’re* the ones who have her interacting with the BIB (getting chummy, going to parties, accepting rides)—though maybe someone thought they saw her shaking her leg at them.

I dunno’, it’s impossible to know what really happened.

  3. suz says:

bob-dog, I’m not defending the sickos, but you got to give them this: they really commit to their beliefs, no matter how crazy, disturbed, and twisted —and offensive to God, I hope!—they are.

    Ain’t the world grand?

    Good Morning everybody!

Acho, I had to smile at your post about Vit D and sunbathing. The sun was shining when I awoke this morning and my thought was, ‘Wonder if it will be warm enough today to wear a tank and get a little D on my shoulders.’ Lol

Kev, I meant to mention your post yesterday about the growing room. When I saw that photo, I had no idea where it was taken. I thought the idea about a growing room seemed believable. To the best of my memory, there were others who went along with that theory and it seemed plausible to me. FWIW I’m glad you decided to post again and hope to hear from you often.

The Mamas and The Papas, Chad? When I was a very young little girl, I loved that song. I don’t know why, but I sing that song alot!

Awa, I can certainly understand why you woke up crying when you had your dream. It’s haunting and very sad. I agree with you that Morgan is trying and will help us get her killer. Thanks for sharing with us. I believe you are a very good dad.

Bob-dog, when I read your post about WBC mailing that photo to the Harringtons, it made me feel sick. That bunch is not a ‘church’. Who do they think they’re fooling? They are a hate group and that’s all they are. Raising their poor children the same way. They could take some lessons from the Harringtons, if they really care who God is. God is love. He turns his face away from a group like that, because of their sin and the hate they try to spread. But, for their information, love will prevail, from what I’ve been hearing, like it did Friday in Blacksburg, VA!

    Monday, Monday
    is a brand new day.
    Let us pray
    that it’s the day
    That there’s a break
and J4M is on the way!

    Go Morgan’s Warriors!

Good morning, all! And, Blink, I hope you are feeling better and taking good care of yourself!!

I haven’t posted much recently only because I have nothng new to really add. But, I continue to read constently.

Today, I just wanted to say how important every last one of you are. Every single person here contributes a new set of eyes, a different point of view, and are a soldier in Morgan’s army, fighting for justice. The pure love, dedication, and goodness of everyone is exactly the weapons this army needs to win this fight.

I am proud to be a part of BOC, standing beside all of you, and lead by the finest of fine, our Blink.

    God Bless all of you.

As much as we all know we should just ignore those kooks, I see that we can’t help but take the bait. I wish that everyone would just agree to quit reporting them to this or that authority, quit writing or even thinking about them, and just IGNORE THEM. They thrive on bad publicity and public outrage. They want that. Quit feeding it to them. Ignore, ignore, ignore.

(Yes, breaking my own commandment in writing this, but notice I deliberately do not use their name. Feh, I say, feh! IGNORE, I implore. Now—no more.)

Absolutely, y’all, and I’m telling you, get back at those parents by making your donations in Morgan’s name and in the name of the WBC children. WBC, you cannot stop me from giving money to all the causes I care about and donating it in your very children’s names.

You all know Morgan would have wanted to help those kids …

  9. acho says:

I should’ve suggested donating “good works,” not just money, in those kids’ names.

It doesn’t have to be money; your brainpower and energy are just as valuable in so many cases (e.g., Morgan’s!).

While we have the right to disagree here — one of the things I love, Blink and our Gal Friday, Red, moderate — so the fighting doesn’t get too out of hand — and I think we should be able to disagree and state our thoughts w/out fear of criticism — but if one of us steps out of line (which I have been known to do), I hope the rest of you will gently point that out — it’s thru our differing opinions — and life and educational experiences — that make this forum so rich.

Blink, so succinctly, states she works for Morgan, period. I would like to expand that. We have to work for Morgan, and for all current and potential victims of sexual abuse and violent crime — not just against women, but all people. It sickens me that in my own little county a 70- y/o GRANDFATHER only has to serve 2 years, w/ the rest suspended, for taking “indecent liberties” w/ his own freaking grandson. That child’s life and family is ruined forever. But even if the judge sentenced him to the full amt. — it would be only five years.

I am working on change for Virginia’s laws. It is not an easy program to start. I encourage all to at least visit the “Change” fb — and anyone who wants to assist in trying to get my non-profit off the ground, it is much appreciated.

Man, I’m glad I didn’t make that decision — the Harringtons loved it so much it inspired them to start Morgan Rocks — when you paint your rock from the heart, that’s how it will be viewed — believe me —

So our precious precious dear-hearted Moonchime, paint your rock w/ love as your motivation, and it will be perfect.

I could have misread something – but wasn’t daughter Bass at home that night – I live out near a state forest and all the neighbors around here have security lights all over the place. Some have light sensors – come on at dusk and go off in daylight and others have motion sensors that light up when something passes within range – kinda spooky to wake up at 3am and see that light on. Deer jump in and out of my yards from time to time. But daughter Bass may have been sound asleep when someone drove up the driveway…it just seems BG had real good luck. Good Sunday morning to you all. I am finding myself for the past few months being up to all hours of the night reading and thinking. I know I am not alone. Funny, I was reading to my husband about some of the land situations. Hoping he could help explain in Eloise terms. I will say we live on the east coast of Virginia, and he actually recognized some of the names of people mentioned! Small world huh?

Ragdoll, I want to thank you for mentioning me:
“and I stand behind you and everyone else who choose to voice their support via all avenues. Morgan’s Warriors “. But I don’t recall saying that? LOL! I want to give credit to the poster.
Suz, I think you are right. I think I am swayed b/c Blink & others donot thinks she was HH, so in keeping with that, where did she go?? Question of the century!

Also, I never knew there was so much to know about cow behavior. I am a semi-city gal, and do not know my animals. Horses make me nervous.
I think the fancy ATV w/ GPS may well be the ticket. I tend to think they may be the norm in that area? Good to look at, maybe find a familiar face. Yoshi, I am going to go & look at what you referenced.

Well heres to new clues soon, b/c the hubby fears this will end up being a Phyl Spector case.

Zeusrocks: I echo your sentiments about revealing information to authorities even tho one might think is insignificant. Who knows what tidbit that info might lead to? (Just like one of the purposes of BOC)! With regard to you calling LE about your neighbor’s garage being open–many, many years ago my very aged granny who lived alone was sitting at the kitchen table reading late at night. She got up to turn off the lights and retire for the evening. She slipped when she stood and fell and broke her hip. She laid in the middle of her kitchen alone for hours, when her neighbor (ha – nightowl) noticed her porch light on. She commented to her husband that was not normal for Granny’s light to be on so late, they should go check on her. Well, lo and behold she was discovered and rushed to emergency care. Happy ending. What had no one taken the time to look out for her? My point is that it is all of our responsibility to KEEP looking out for each other. Morgan obviously had no one looking out for her that evening.

Also, I was going to ask if the hate mail the H’s received was illegal? (And it is being discussed now). I am thinking if it is, by all means action should be taken. But if there is a doubt, isn’t that the reaction they are looking for? Recognition and law suits? Tread carefully with the nutzos.

On a side note, I don’t post much either, mostly lurk. I noticed some of us have stated they are reluctant to do so and I have felt that way at times. So for the lurkers out there, jump in – it is the heart and soul of BOC.

    suz,

In regards to your questions about gates on the property and the movement of the livestock.

This is a photo I took of the entrance to AF. In it you will see that the front gate does indeed have a cattle guard:

    http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/TDBone/1b.jpg

Also, there are fences within the main fence that encompasses the property boundary. These interior fences surround the primary planting area that is between the two homes, there is an additional fence line that prevents livestock from accessing the river bottom, there is a fence line that surrounds each homes, and a few others. Also, as you mentioned, there are probably gates or additional cattle guards withing the property – more than likely on the road at the entrance and exit from the main planting area on the property (The plot located between the two homes).

I will try to get a map up in a minute that will illustrate this…when I get a break from work.

  19. sweetpea says:

I happen to have had a very large cattle ranch. No hunting was allowed, however our property back up to thousands of acres of BLM land. Hunters were always out during the deer and elk season. Many packed in or use atv’s. It was not unusual for them to set up a hunting camp and be out wandering around during the middle of the night. If I remember correctly Mr. Bass allowed hunting on his property. If so hearing a vehicle late at night would not be unusual during hunting season. Also, seeing an atv with something wrapped in a tarp laying across the back would be pretty normal as well, most would think it were nothing more than a deer or elk being transported. Sometimes with a large animal they will cut them up right their in the woods and make a couple of trips to get them out.

Not necessarily someone who lives close by. Many hunters will trailer their atv’s to the property. As far as I know our hunting season is in the fall not sure about VA. Anyone here know this information?

This does bring one thought to mind. If an ATV was used I would think that there would be some fairly good tracks especially since it was raining during that period. Tire tracks can be as good as finger prints.

  20. fish says:

    suz: you got me thinking.
“I think the witness statements say she was seen walking in the same direction as, but not necessarily with, people in the parking lot.”

Maybe Morgan did have her Gift of Fear that night and she was walking away, (same direction) from the four MIB. She could have become alarmed and thus setting the series of events that really led her to take a ride from someone. I am going with that she knew who the vehicle was but maybe just in her friend periphery. She got in and that got her away from the MIB but here’s something else to think about…
What if the driver or passenger of that very vehicle was picking up the MIB? She gets in on Copeley and then he/they stop to pick up MIB. She has no other option…she is trapped inside with no way out.

I am trying to place why she would be HHing. I don’t want to think that this is happening but maybe she is waving the car down and thus someone interprets HHing. M. Voth, for one.

But then again, maybe LE does have the guy who picks her up and he is the one saying she was HHing.

Thanks for reposting. But you are right…it’s impossible to know what really happened because in the end we have so little to go on. Sure we all have done lots of research but really what do we know.

Thoughts to Dr. & Mrs., Alex Harrington. We will continue to be here for all of you.

Couldn’t one call and complain to DCF about those children being in attendance at the protest Friday?

So many of you have followed the music connection as it relates to Morgan. I have missed so very many pages of posts, due to my never ending health problems, so I have a question for those who have followed those connections. Does anyone here know if Morgan attended the Rooster Walk last year?

I got an invite from a friend this year, and had planned on taking my family, but then I started looking at some of the band members (Charlottesville area), and so many college students from all around UVA, JMU, etc are attending. My boys are older, so I think it would be ok, but then again, I keep thinking about that possible music connection :(

I’m in the process of looking up info on last years attendee’s, but this is the info for this year: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=10150138522410282 & http://www.roosterwalk.com/index.cfm Seems to be a very popular fest for college age kids…

  28. Word Girl says:

Thanks for the mention, Skyler. I just try to write what I think and feel. I know there are much better writers than me here, but what matters is that we all are trying so hard to figure this out and give some solace to the Harringtons, while awaiting the justice that is to come.

Speaking of writing, Blink, I was imagining a book about this work you’re doing. Blink On Crime.
I’ll help edit! and who else, acho, bob-dog, suz, j2k, observer? And all you other English majors out there, who I am remiss to mention! I used to keep notes on some of you so that I could keep you in thought, but that’s long been discontinued–my brain just couldn’t hold it all. :)

The blogging phenomenom and the resulting progress made by Law Enforcement is certainly noteworthy.

  29. Justice says:

sheesh, what I meant to say was: Couldn’t one call and complain to DCF about those children from the WBC being in attendance at the protest Friday? Couldn’t that sort of be considered child abuse? Or does that ole freedom of religion come into play here too?

Thanks again, TDBone! Cattle guards make it even easier to drive right through the farm from point A to point B. It’s a real nuisance when you don’t have them, though Bass has enough dough to get the automatic gates that you could open by remote control or just by driving on them. Maybe that’s why he segregates his horses from his cows—horses can break their legs on those cattle guards.

If this “interaction” was seen by an individual, who was this witness?

Did the BBplayers ever see the 4BIB?

The only account I’m aware of is that the BBplayers reportedly had stated Morgan appeared alone when they left. Does this mean that she was not associating with anyone- or that she was literally the only person they saw in the area at the time?

Can Blink, or anyone, clarify any of these answers or elaborate? Thanks.

Last week I saw an ad by Pepsi, where they have a great opportunity to fund a project. It’s called Pepsi Refresh Project. Pepsi will be giving away $5000, $25,000, $50,000 and $250,000 to a person/group/etc that comes up with the best project idea. Voting started April 1st, and ends on April 30th, but you have a full year to get the project set up & running. From what I gather, whomever gets the most votes win the prizes, IF their project fits into one of the categories listed on their site.

I realize that there isn’t much time, but there have been some great minds posting on BOC & Morgan’s forum who probably have the know how to set something like this up without much trouble, which would be the hard part. As many people who have followed this case and have been begging for changes to be made, or want to do something to help make women more aware (Like the gift of fear book B has suggested)I think it would be possible to actually win one of the prizes. Anyway, I just wanted to make the group aware. For more info go here: You can view more info here: http://www.refresheverything.com/index

This afternoon I flew up with a pal in a helicopter. I did a lot of thinking about the location of Morgan’s remains. I felt I could see much more detail from 700 feet over subdivisions and agriculture areas then I could at a mere 120 feet over kayakers on the Chattahoochee River. One thing, air searches are very costly, even when you’re just in a mediocre $425K bird. My pal pointed out is that with an air search you can certainly without a doubt eliminate some areas from having to do a ground search with what you can see from a birds eyes (not always the case). I wish Morgan would of been found sooner…

RE: I say I believe the perp had help because I don’t believe a regular vehicle could of made it to the area where Morgan was found. Even if the they made a grand entrance, it still would of taken other means to get her there. I don’t necessarily see someone trolling around conveniently with a ATV in the back of their truck or pulling a small trailer, but I do see someone telling them will to go and meeting them there.
As far as the boots go…those healed boots were hurting. She needed/wanted to take them off while inside a vehicle -for the long drive home. The high was 54 the low 38. It was rainy and cold. leather boots or not, I bet if the floor heat air floor vents were on, it would feel good.

RE: I think the perp(s) could of rolled through the gate opened, or not and yes I am assuming that she was taken there dead. JMO, but I believe if she were just incapacitated she would/could of been left anywhere else. I believe she was left on the property where she was found dead. I don’t believe she was taken on a horse, I think ATV, and ATV or not, still at least two people. Adrenaline or not, I still don’t believe Morgan was carried by one person for even the closest distance from the point where a vehicle would have to stop after entering the farm.

You’re right on about that. So could collected “dirt” (minerals and etc.) The backyard is different from the front yard in all aspects.

RE: Respectfully, Blink has the responsibility of moderating through literally dozens, sometimes hundreds of posts a day. There’s no way she can be expected to edit our posts for gramar and spelling etc. Ocasionally throughout the day I do so much research on this and other topics that I literally type shorthand. The simplest thing you can do is open another window & open Microsoft Word, or Outlook/Yahoo Mail, etc. and create a draft of what you want to post on BOC. Then spellcheck/proof it, copy and paste it from your document draft to You’ll find this to be easy to do.

Finally, to Dr. and Mrs. Harrington. I know I’ve read in AP articles that you are frustrated with the speed of which the DNA samples/comparisons have not become concluded. There are several slides and samples that have to be examined thoroughly and it takes time. As well, forensic botany and fungal analysis; The growth of spores, will indicate with high accuracy exactly when Morgan died and where else she might have been prior to Anchorage Farms. Her impact wounds; The shape and depth of the impact can determine the height, gender, and the position of the attacker(s) as well as the position of Morgan and if she was shielding herself. Small imperfections in the weapon used will create wounds/fractures/breaks with unique signatures that will help match the wound with the weapon that created it. Unfortunately, all of this takes a lot of time to complete properly and accurately and must be done right the first time. When the perp(s) are arrested, whether they plea and the case goes to trial or not, this will also be a lengthy procedure. Once they’re arrested, may you have peace that they will never be able to hurt another one’s daughter, sister, and friend again. Stay strong, time is on your side, yes it is.

I trust the dogs. They went to the bridge and stopped.
She was probably in a miserable state–had been bleeding, something could have made her sick whatever it was, the weather. She wanted to get home to get ready for next day with Dad.
I believe she was not thinking clearly and was hh imo.

Judi, it’s so nice to see you again. Thanks for your very nice post and you’re so right. Every poster on here is valuable and we need all of you. We have to stand together like Skyler said, until justice is served for precious Morgan.

Thanks for the pic TD and I look forward to the map you’re working on. You always do so well detailing, which makes them so much easier to view. Do you think if there are cattle guards at other gates that it would make it easier for the killer to get to the location where Morgan’s remains were found? Or if she was first placed in the tree line?

Sweetpea, if you made any mistakes, I didn’t notice them. You make a good point. During hunting season, which does begin in the fall here, I don’t know if anyone would notice or pay particular attention to vehicles or ATVs on the property. Mr. Bass has said that there were only about four that had permission to hunt there, but I’m sure there are those who trespass without him knowing. I know everything points to it being someone local, but I guess there’s a chance it could be someone who’s not. I may be totally off base, but I just have a feeling that it’s someone who has spent time there, maybe camping and hiking and hunting the land, unbeknown to Mr. Bass.

Fish, you’re so right about so much to try to figure out. It’s hard for me to believe too that Morgan was HH. I know LE seems pretty sure that she was and that there’s multiple witnesses who say she was. It almost makes you think that she at least thought she knew who she got in the car with. But since as far as we know, no one saw her get in a vehicle, there’s very little to work with. If she was taken by force, I don’t think she was taken from the bridge. Either way, there’s always that question, how did her purse end up in the parking lot?

Justice, we gotta’ stop smacking that tar baby. They want attention; they will starve if we ignore them. Attention includes sending the authorities after them, whether it’s for terror, hate crimes, child endangerment, misuse of the mail, parking the wrong way on a street, or separating their recycling poorly. They LOVE that kind of attention. They THRIVE on that kind of attention. So do not give it to them. Do not make them martyrs. They do not exist. They do not matter. Ignore them.

Fish, the Comfort Inn where the police searched is not near the area. It’s miles away located on Pantops, east of Charlottesville.

  48. suz says:

Josie, Bass has said he doesn’t think trespassers are a problem; his wife says they get LOTS of them. Imho, it’s impossible to keep them out. My friend chains her gates shut, and somebody cut the chains and ride his atv on her land. Rechains it—same thing. I should get her a deer camera.

Hey, what ever happened to those things in this case?

Crimewriter, I don’t think Sweetpea was asking Blink if she would edit our posts for spelling, etc :)

Some websites provide each member with a private page that has a record of the comments they have posted and the ability to edit or change an already posted comment. I think that’s what Sweetpea was referring to. I would assume that function wouldn’t work well on a site such as BOC given the nature of the content of the posts.

The info you provided re; spell checking, etc is extremely useful CW ~ thanks! I’m sure that will be exactly what Sweetpea is looking for too.

    Don’t mean to interfere…but thought I would ;)

I agree about the tracking dogs. One of my neighbors is a retired state trooper and he told me that one time a dog tracked someone who had driven off in a car. With a body in the trunk. My neighbors from Roanoke had their rellies come for a visit. As always I ask about Morgan’s case and the woman said, “Oh, you can’t get away from it”. I guess that means that there is still a lot of media coverage on it. I am glad to hear that but there is no mention of it here. Hopefully that will change soon. My little fur babies have a real nose for cheese…low fat mozzarella sticks with apple slices. I am also eating healthier snacks thanks to my little best friends.
