Yeardley Love

Charlottesville, VA- At approximately 9 PM the evening of May 2nd, George Huguely, V left a golf outing he drank at all day, visibly intoxicated according to fellow attendees. It was the beginning of the end of a rancorous binge drinking track record for the prodigal son of George and Marta (Sanson Murphy) Huguely.

It was the gruesome end for star athlete Yeardley Reynolds Love.

Yeardley said ITS OVER to the heir of Huguely’s family’s century old lumber business and spent the last weeks of her life in fear George would make good on his threats.

Sources inside the circle of Love and her family have stated that the most recent threats and public observation of the couple occurred at Huguely’s former frat, Delta Kappa Epsilon.

Following this incident, Yeardley left campus and stayed at her Cockeysville home where her Mother, Sharon Donnelly Love, begged her to file a police report.

Yeardley refused as she did not want it to interrupt the last weeks of both teams winning seasons. She believed because the last scene was so public Huguely would have no choice but to back off for fear of compromising his status on the UVA mens team.

For anyone unsure about the locker room brethren, as reported by NY Daily News:

A former Virginia student who was friends with both Love and Huguely described a disturbing incident in which Huguely recently reportedly attacked Love, then had no recollection of it the next day, which precipitated their final breakup. “He was really messed up and punched a window of a car on the way over to her apartment that night,” the friend said, speaking on the condition of anonymity out of consideration for Love’s family. The friend said Huguely had been seen breaking bottles at another party before Love’s death and had told people he was going to her apartment to get Love back.

D K E

While Huguely is not listed as an active brother on DKE roster, this Falls newsletter touts an impressive Rush week which rounds out the Dekes with 14 Varsity Athletes; 12 of them from the men’s Lacrosse team. The DKE roster has not been updated to reflect active brothers since 2008 and an email request to alumni affairs director Ian Graham has not been returned. The DKE facebook account has been deleted.

By all accounts, in retrospect, Yeardley’s murder was a predictable incident. Preventable.

Not inasmuch as it could have been foreseen per se, but Generation George was a time bomb.

Incidents abound from his days in Palm Beach where he jumped ship after an argument with Generation G4 whereby he swam to shore as well as his arrest for drunken swearing and THREATENING TO KILL A COP WITH A SIDE OF RACIAL SLUR in November 2008.

Red-flag

There are 8 UVA Men’s Lacrosse members that have had alcohol related arrests in the last two years.

Nationally ranked 2008 Team Captain Will Barrow stunned the entire lacrosse community when he committed suicide two weeks after Huguely’s Rockbridge County arrest.

Ryan Nizolek, #24, was arrested in High School for smuggling steroids into the US from Mexico on a family vacation and brought them to school in a Rolaids bottle.

Yeardley and Kaitlinn

As the news broke of Yeardley’s murder I have been inundated with emails and texts from several UVA students and their family members that have been admonished not to speak publicly, not to accept new facebook friends and not to answer any questions from the media on or off campus.

The paradox of telling the grieving and concerned matriculation to effectively zip it, after doing just that may have cost Yeardley Love her life, is absurd.

A witness who observed the last physical confrontation between Love and Huguely email excerpt to blinkoncrime.com provided on the condition of anonymity:

…”You have to understand.. He is a big dude with a bigger personality. If anyone has ever told him no, I am not aware of it. It was obvious she did not want him near her. She told him that, and it took 3 of us to hold him back. She was a little thing and she put on a good face, but I walked away feeling like that was not over. I said to lax(xx) that asshole is going to get himself killed or kill somebody. He was nicer on the turf for f*cks sake, I didn’t get it…..”

We are all obsessed about our last year in the game. Everyone parties like rock stars because half of us have more money than rock stars. Well, our parents do.

That is bullshit about him not being a Deke, btw. He beat up a fellow brother in his sleep drunk off his ass one night because he was sleeping on the couch he wanted to sit on, or go to bed on or whatever- He was booted and his friends wanted to stay. That pissed him off royally. His Dad partied with us once in a while. I remember wishing he was my Dad, and then I saw those two go at it. I would still have been cool with a Dad that is that loaded, but not if it meant Huge was my bro.

It wasn’t so much that he was raging all the time. It was weird. It was more like he was 2 diff people. You know what I mean? Like a mood swing on crack. DON’T publish I said he was on crack. Roids for sure and there was mention of an 8 the day of the murder. It was almost like he felt like he was insulted when he was around better players than him. He loved the sport but he had no respect for anyone if they were better in the X.

Do I think anyone intervening could have stopped a murder? I am not sure if that is a fair question or a set up.

My Mom asked me the same thing. I told her I did not get it. There is tons of Hoo Pumpers everywhere, especially this season. I never saw him without some chick, so I don’t get that part. He was a big clamper I heard though, if he didn’t have something cookin. It was not like he could not **** anyone he wanted. He was always like .. Give and Go Bro, everytime I saw him and I had a date. Tell me if you don’t know the lingo but I think you might. I heard ya got skills.

Lol, I am aware that only happens in college before you say something lecture-like.

I really wish I knew that nobody knew what was going on with him. We woulda pulled that scared straight shit on him. Like his version, shop at target instead of Abercrombie for the rest of his life no beach houses. That mighta been harsh of me to say before now. We just hate what he did to his girl, and our last year. I worked my ass off, we all did, and it should have been our thing to remember. Instead, it is fu***** lockdown.

Alg_huguely_cavaliers

I have reviewed UVA Athletic Director Craig Littlepage quotes on the matter.

Frankly, as an editorial, that verbiage would not have flown from any coach I have ever had, or respected, regardless of the sport.

“They never told me, nothing was reported to me” is the equivalent of ignorance of the law, which is no defense.

How do 8 arrests and a suicide, among other “not so documentable” infractions NOT constitute a red flag, or an intervention?

Safety does not come with a price tag. It comes from accountability and awareness. Huguely posted bond following his arrest on November 15, 2008.

Somebody had to know he was incarcerated. He had a public defender in that case so the question is– Who posted it and how was the fact he was off campus for a few days prior to the Thanksgiving break missed by his coaches?

At the time of this writing, the Virginia Commonwealth has issued an order sealing the search warrants in this case retroactively.

While the justification of that request by Charlottesville Police has not been released, it is an unusual move in a case that has not even seen its first bond hearing or an indictment.

Could it mean that Huguely is connected to the murder of Morgan Harrington?

Virginia State Police, who maintains jurisdiction in the Harrington case is emphatic it is not.

..”It was a Lacrosse player who discovered the purse. However, there is no evidence to indicate any connection between Morgan or the Love homicide. .. There is no connection between these two homicides, so I am not going to even entertain the additional questions. We are not identifying the individual who found the purse…” Corrine Geller, PR Manager VSP to blinkoncrime.com

Morgan and friendMorgan’s purse was located by an unidentified male lacrosse player on the way to boarding the bus to an exhibition match in Annapolis, MD.

We have a player accused of first degree murder that by his own statements has had violent encounters with others he has not remembered.

We have players with land connections to the area of North Garden as well an individual who has personally preformed site survey work on Blandemar and Anchorage Farm.

Have all the Lacrosse players been questioned about the circumstances of finding the posession of a missing and murdered woman who was last seen on the UVA campus?

The cases may be may be unrelated.

The Harrington’s buried their daughter Morgan.

The Love family is burying their daughter Yeardley.

Isn’t it time for a little disclosure as to whether or not these lingering questions have been asked and answered?

Yeardley Love, will receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in Spanish posthumously with her class from the University of Virginia.

Love’s family and friends begin receiving those wishing to pay their respects today where she will also be laid to rest tomorrow, in Maryland.

Do the the UVA and VTech chapters of Delta Kappa Epsilon ever intermingle? Do they ever have inter-college events or parties?

It’s possible but I doubt it. One of my Frat brothers @ Radford had an actual brother who was a DKE @ VT. We hung out with them some and knowing those guys and what I’ve seen of the UVa chapter, it would be like oil and water. Now keep in mind this was 10 years ago so things might have changed but at that time, we’re talking about 2 entirely different type of students. Not to mention the UVa – VT rivalry. Probably wouldn’t have mixed well especially with alcohol involved. Just my .02.

    B – re: “Bros before Hoes” man-tality

(you noted:) “… this kid’s tirades and repeated abusive and violent behavior were eventually going to claim a life. Apparently, the mistake he made, was that Yeardley was no ho.”

Seconded, B. I’ll venture to say that, like Morgan’s death, there were a lot of mistakes made by a number of individuals that collectively contributed to Love’s similarly horrific, brutally unfair fate – and if any one actor had instead done the Right thing at the Right time, well, we might not be having these sad conversations about what went Wrong.

We’ve spent months parcing the culpability of those surrounding Morgan on Oct. 17; as far as Love’s case, we’ve got teammates, coaches, GH’s parents, his past victims (male as well as female), frat guys and friends alike who were all aware of of GH’s blind-drunken violent rages – and some of these individuals were also aware of his hurt and anger over Love breaking up with him… and a few likely knew it was rising to a boil *that very day,* as did – in all likelihood – several of Love’s own friends.

It’s as disheartening as it is heartbreaking that, with all of this foreshadowing, she was alone and vulnerable when the situation boiled over that night, resulting in her violent end.

    To that point:
(B added) “… While I am at it, did I mention how pissed I am that Casteen points out the murder happened on private property and not on campus? As if it matters. …”

I found that rather off-putting and unneccessary to his overall point as well. Considering “one of their own” – a member of said “safe community” – beat another community member to death in her own bedroom, which was situated in the heart of the bustling off-campus student community, the UVA community-at-large needs to take a good hard look at the moral health of its membership.

According to Casteen (in his letter to parents), “This death did not occur inside the University, and the address where it occurred is private property. Nonetheless, they and I consider the address part of their community — the place where they ought to be safe. …”

There is nothing inherently safe about a “community,” in general – it’s the actions of the community’s members that determine its level of safeness. If UVA is inadvertantly fostering a culture of “Live and let die,” and students don’t think twice when someone they’re partying with becomes aggressive, irrational, menacing – and mentions the name of another student he wants to “get back” at – then I hope that Casteen’s next line in the letter:

“Let us see to it that the things your daughters and sons learn here become and remain true in the world to which they go after they leave this place.”

… does not come to fruition.

I quoth the succinct Times-Square T-shirt vendor who thwarted last week’s bomb plot:

    “See something, say something.”

Hit that with my fat hilighter, I did. Very poignant.

*sorry i have not posted but mother’s day was a bear for me this year. it is the first one without mine. i’m sad, mad, lonely, and every other emotion you can come up with. but in a word to describe me…pitiful!
i do know that she is where she needs to be and i do find solace in that.
my kid’s birthday party and the other ran into a treelimb playing in the dark at his sister’s party. What a day. what a night.

    Slowroller Dad:
I read where you came to BOC because of the Sandra Cantu case, I came because of Morgan Harrington. I am glad to see that you have kept your daughters safe as I do mine and support the families that have lost these beautiful girls who suffered at the hands of monsters.

Seems like both of these cases have a “GAG Order”.

    To all:
Yes, I love UVA and Cville, in general. How could you not. Such history and beauty but I just believe there needs to be refreshers courses on not only this college campus but all campuses. Look at my own community and the JMU riot/party/springfling. Behavior and the choices therein, needs to be addressed. We all get a bit lazy from time to time and believe that we are invincible. So it couldn’t hurt to readdress safety and such.

    Lee:
I pulled my kid from camp only because of the deafening silence. I lost a little bit of faith and a even little bit more of “trust”. But I spread that around not just to UVA because how do I know if it isn’t a creepy loner that just snatched her and is now long gone. How do I know if he doesn’t work closeby and is waiting for the one girl who is just a slight bit more tired than her friends or a slight bit more distracted and is lagging behind.
I would love to have Observer by her side and experience UVA as it should be. That is not possible nor practical.

    Do I 100% blame UVA?
    Absolutely not.
I place 100% blame where it needs to be.
We just do not have a name yet!

    Blink:
Do you have an idea, thought, suggestion, oh heck, gonna ask it!
    Who killed Morgan Harrington?
Or do we just accept that she dies broken and alone, laying in that field???

    Saramom:
Thanks for the “bestest”. I needed that.

It doesn’t appear that the men’s LaCrosse coach has learned a thing from this murder. He gave an interview that was written by the Associated Press talking how all the teams were a family and that they would continue with their season.
If they were a family and he was the coach doing his job, none of this would or could have happened.
Local concerned moms need to stay on top of this case. DO NOT LET IT FADE AWAY. If possible, go to the Court hearings and let the judge know why you are there. Speak to the media and let them know your concerns and feelings.
Geraldo Rivera has gone on ORieley’s show and equated Yeardley’s death to the very lowest level of behavior as is found in the drug culture of the gangs found in New York, Los Angles and other big cities. In addition he made the prediction that GH would escape with a manslaughter charge and only serve five years.
His prediction must not be allowed to happen!
If ever a person deserved the death penality, Hugley does.
The PR campaign to move the blame has already started by the lawyer. He needs to be countered on his every move. It will take local people to get this done.
DO NOT LET OUR TWO TIERED JUSTICE SYSTEM LET THIS GUY ESCAPE. Do not let big money get him off with a lighter sentence.

  8. Minnie says:

I feel so badly for the little nurse’s family that just got her nursing license. Do you know how many hours that lady sat up and learned all these hard nursing course just to be tossed out in a field. I bet she would have been a good one.

They are checking the cameras, but how do they not know he did not sneak out the back or side windows and walked down there. I bet you he has lied at least once. He said he never had a relationship with her. Now why did the brother think that had.

Fish, You are so welcome. You have been on my mind. Your presence here is invaluable and your passion is palpable. So is your pain. You are incredibly brave to give voice to your hurt (kind of reminds me of a certain Mrs. H.)

So, we do not accept that she dies broken and alone, laying in that field. Her mom needs us. Mrs. Harrington is entitled to know who killed her precious girl. She needs to know that the world does not just keep turning as usual. I am probably one of the worst sleuths around, but I am learning. I can research for hours on end. One of the very first posts that I sent to Blink was a German translation of an online Hook article. (I didn’t know this at the time I posted–it was during a short stretch in which there was lots of talk about things being deleted from the internet and in a mad rush, I fired it off to B.) I am lucky I didn’t get fired! So many words in the article were deleted or substituted with incorrect ones due to translation problems. I had convinced myself that it contained some sort of code! Oh, brother, or should I say, Sister! I have to laugh at myself now.

I wish we had our own “Situation Room” where the work we need to do could be guided and divided.
In the meantime, we keep on keeping on…

B: You summed it up with the Bros before Hos statement. I know that is what GHV’s friend was implying when quoted GH, as saying “Give and Go, man…Give & Go” whenever he saw the guy with a “date”.

This mentality is disgusting BUT it isn’t new. It has been in our culture for as long as any of us can remember. Back in the ’90s it was, “Hit it and Quit it.” In the 1970′s it was “Wam Bam, Thank You Ma’am and before that it was the “Four F’s…Find em, Feel em, F em, and Forget em.”

How will we change this mentality when it is so inter-generational? Where do we even start when the father’s of these young guys or their older peers have passed this mentality over like a torch? I’m guessing we have to go through the females because for the guys it is locker room trash talk that keeps it going…a macho thing and that hasn’t changed much in the last 40 years.

  11. PM1 says:

Lee, thank you for sharing Dr. Casteen’s letter. I received the letter personally and had read it 4 times before you posted it for the BOC group to see. As the parent of a current UVA student, like you, since Ocotber 17, I have done the same things you have done. I have called and emailed UVA asking the tough questions, I have demanded answers regarding Morgan’s death and now Yeardley’s, I have asked what is being done and what is going to be done to enhance UVA’s security and the safety of all students and staff, and I have make my presence known as a Mother who seeks justice and demands assurances of the University’s role in keeping my daughter safe. So, I am not a shrinking violet who marches to the singular tune that UVA is unfailing…I have too much at stake to become complacent or be swayed by the glint of a wonderful University with a stellar pedigree.

Personally, I was impressed by Dr. Casteen’s letter and I am a tough sell. Because of my daughter I am demanding. He is in an uneviable position, one none of us would want and one most of us could not handle. He is the emissary of the Unversity, he is the face and voice of UVA, and he is the navigator of all things UVA. He must be an educator, a trusted confidant, a CEO, a business man, a juggler and a magician. He must keep all facets of the Unversity community happy and working well together and maintain an equilibrium. The events of October 17 and May 3 shattered all of that. Normal is no more. It has become crystal clear, no matter what he thinks, what he does, or what he says, he is and will continue to be judged by a standard that none could, would or should be required to attain.

In all this, Dr. Casteen is a human being who has been stricken to the core by a series of tragic events that would bring anyone to his or her knees. We on the outside are judgmental and critical of every word and action and read volumes into each lingusitic nuance, without stopping to recognize or acknowledge the effects these tragedies have had on the the man and the community he loves and has served for over two decades. Of course, we each read his words with our own personal spin and apply our own contextual filters to gather meaning. That is understandable, but in all fairness, sometimes just reading the words without a preconceived attitude can be more effective. To me, his comment, “This death did not occur inside the University, and the address where it occurred is private property. Nonetheless, they and I consider the address part of their community — the place where they ought to be safe. …” is a factual statement of the location of the crime so as to elimate any confusion. It is an open admission by this man that he has no phsycial control or jurisdiction over the scene of the crime, but that he personally is accepting responsibility and oversight. He says and believes that parents and students do have the right to expect safety. I sense a man who is showing the depth of his character and facing the fact he and the University have failed.

But, should the blame for Morgan’s and Yeardley’s deaths be placed soley on the doorstep of John Casteen? No. Should he bear some blame and take swift and decisive action to elimate the inherent problems that contributed to these two women’s deaths? Yes. But, so should every student and every staff member at UVA and every University in the country, every person who lives in Charlottesville and every town in the country, every person that reads or posts on this site and any other site on the internet. We are all to blame. We must all accept responsibility for perpetuating the attitudes that lead to these and many other young women’s deaths and we must all step up to make a change. Blaming is not the answer, will not solve the problem and will not provide justice for or honor anyone lost to violence. Please find it in your hearts to quit playing the “blame game” and start playing the “change game”. I’m starting now.

I totally agree. If the coach didn’t notice what was going on with GH, he was grossly incompetent.

Since I strongly oppose death penalty, I shall just say, GH should stay behind bars for good. He had plenty of opportunity and also the financial means to withdraw his addiction and to address his many other issues. His first brush with the law should have made it clear that he was in serious trouble. He chose to carry on.

the things that these lawyers come up with blows my mind, but i then have to remind myself that they took an oath to defend their clients to the best of their abilities.

i did child abuse investigations for my first 3 years out of college (i recently changed jobs when i couldnt take the horrors and the injustice of the system anymore)…and let me just say without going into specifics because some cases are still in the trial phase…i am FLABBERGASTED what they will come up with. literally, a month after natasha richardson tragically passed away, a case i had that is still in the preliminary phases, changed their defense theory to the child hitting his head and dying of a subdural hematoma (when the child sustained fatal injuries from mom’s live-in boyfriend) it makes me sick. i wouldn’t be suprised if the defense in the case goes a similar route. i hope to god this doesn’t get plead down to manslaughter. god bless yeardley. the only solace i can find in this case at all is that she is now being loved and protected by god, and her father.

  15. Judi says:

Professional sports, NFL for example, has conduct codes – players are expected to live up to certain moral standards. When the conduct codes are broken, players suffer consequences. How is it that college sports, however, turn a blind eye to poor conduct and let the players act and be as out-of-control as they so desire? This only feeds the violence that already lives inside of them, enables it.

I’m worried that no body is concerned any more about the MAN that comes out of college, just the ATHLETE that comes out.

    He should have been stopped.

    Yeardley should still be alive.

It’s a large, purple rock with gold letters that say “Rock On 241” and a painted cross with colored gemstones. Laying next to it is a double-blossomed white lily.

Thank you, Chad, for your thoughtful and touching tribute to Morgan. Thank you also for the kind note enclosed with your rock. It was especially touching as this has been another difficult day. One of my employees died unexpectedly over the weekend; my heart is again heavy burdened.

TO: PM1: Thank you for a most articulate summation of the unenviable position faced by John Casteen–a real person behind the public persona of president. I might only encourage all readers to pause in their understandable anger and angst–that I too share–to read again this poignant reminder and consider perhaps a new perspective.

Six were suspended for alleged illegal activities, and one was suspended for a violation of National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) rules. Defensive end Henry Melton and linebacker Sergio Kindle were both arrested during the summer on charges of driving while intoxicated.[52][60][62] Freshman defensive tackle Andre (Dre) Jones (who had not yet played for Texas but did join spring practices) and former UT player Robert Joseph were charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Three were killed inside the University’s tower and ten killed from the 29th floor observation deck [1][2][3] of the University’s 307 foot administrative building on August 1, 1966; one died a week later from her wounds. The tower massacre happened shortly after Whitman murdered his wife and mother at their homes. Fans of rival schools gleefully poke fun at Texas’ recent issues. ‘Book ‘em Horns’ T-shirts are trendy in College Station and Norman, Okla., but the football programs in those towns have not been incident free.

A Morning News search of court records and media accounts found that between 2003 and 2005, Texas A&M had 13 football players and a recruit arrested.

Oklahoma has had 13 players and two recruits arrested since Bob Stoops’ 1999 hiring, seven in the last two years. Of the 17 Texas player arrests since Mr. Brown’s 1998 arrival, eight have occurred since the January 2006 national title-game victory.

‘If you want to sound an alarm about what’s going on in college sports, you certainly have an opportunity to do so at this point,’ said Dr. Lapchick, who is president and CEO of the National Consortium for Academics and Sport and director emeritus of the Center for the Study of Sport in Society, which he helped found in 1984.

‘That being said, there are an awful lot of college athletes who are doing phenomenal things in the community. There are so many more of them than there are athletes who have gotten into trouble. We tend to lose sight of that.’”

    Dear Texas Grandfather,

    You are very wise.

THIS Concened Mom will not let this fade away. I was born and raised in Charlottesville, attended UVA, and have a daughter who is working very hard to get into UVA. I want this broken, pathetic system fixed before my baby girl gets there and I will do anything to help make it happen.

We have to bond together and work to make it a safer place. I admit, I don’t know where to start, but I am willing to do anything at all.

I am asking all of the local moms to work together.
Together we can and will make it safer. What can we do? Where do we start? Blink- suggestions?

I have had it with light. lenient sentences for abusive psychos. Enough.

  25. HokieHi says:

On May 3rd, Acho said the following:

“Let’s not shift our attention from finding Morgan’s killer(s). If not Huguely, then today is a great day for the perp(s).”

Acho, when I first read this I thought you hit the nail on the head. And now a week later, I feel you were very prophetic. I hope this doesn’t rub anyone the wrong way and I certainly mean no disrespect to anyone, especially the Love family. My heart breaks for Yeardley. Such a senseless crime. And I’d love nothing more than to spend 10 minutes in a locked room with that douche to show him my interpretation of his “accident”.

However, Yeardley will have her justice. Thanks to the great work of the local Law Enforcement agencies, GH will not hurt anyone else. And thankfully, Yeardley’s mother and family won’t have to suffer through the “not knowing” while wondering if the monster who took their daughter’s life is laying in wait to strike again. Gil and Dan still have to suffer through that.

In reading through the board, it appears that very few here believe GH is responsible for Morgan’s death. Thus, as Acho has stated, it’s been a great week for the bad guy(s) in Cville. There have been less than 100 posts under Morgan’s last article since the news broke in this case and the bulk of those were from Crimewriter and Mom3.0. I’ve always felt Morgan’s case didn’t have enough media coverage and outside of the work LE is doing, I’ve really felt that the work of the members of BOC and other forums has been what kept hope alive in bringing the Harringtons justice.

Once again, I hope this doesn’t offend any of you but I’m asking your help in focusing our attention back to Morgan’s case. I’ve spent time looking at GH’s record and questioned his motives like the rest here but I’m not sure my questions or research about this guy make any difference. The good news is that he is off the street for good, regardless of whether we believe this could have been prevented or if UVa is covering things up, etc. So instead of continuing to focus on GH, who is willing to rededicate themselves to making sure the Harrington’s get their justice too? Who is willing to put the pressure back on the BG(s)in Cville? God Bless Yeardley and Morgan.

Hi Blinksters & hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day. It has been a very tough week for those of us who were lucky enough to know Yeardley and now have try to make sense of her tragic death. When my young daughter told me she can’t imagine what Yeardley went through & now her family & friends, I confessed that I can’t either.

Texas Grandfather- In case you and others don’t have access to the local network news in Cville, it has been reported that the Love family was consulted on the UVA LAX teams finishing the season & it was reported that Yeardley would have wanted them to keep playing. UVA LAX was her passion & one of the reasons she didn’t go to the authorities about GH.

J2K – Right on! How is it you always make me smile while at the same moment you make an amazingly astute comment that stays with me…

See something, say something ~ if we could all commit to that motto we could change the world

To Fish ~ You are not alone as you missed your mother yesterday. The fact that you missed her is a testament to how much you love her and that Fish is a beautiful thing.

For those of us (everyone?) trying to come to terms with death, I’ve just read the first 30 pages of “Love & Death” by Forrest Church and had to force myself to put it down so that I wouldn’t be late to a commitment. A friend gave it to me for my birthday & it has already changed me forever. I don’t want to try to describe it because I’m sure I won’t do it justice. I will give it to everyone I love in hope that we all see/respond to death with greater understanding then we (as a society) do now.

In two of the pages I read today, Church describes an encounter with a married couple who have lost their 8 week old daughter and they tell him how alone they feel because people avoid them and/or uncomfortable being around them which Church attributes to our inability to openly discuss death. I’ve so witnessed this many times!

I think of Morgan daily and pray for JUSTICE! Let’s pray for Radar & his **team** to solve this heinous crime and get the monster(s) responsible.

The Love family deserves time to grieve in privacy, and when and if they think the time is appropriate, they can let the truth be known as to any culpability they feel the teams, the coaching staff and UVa administration have in not recognizing the danger their daughter and sister faced at the hands of George Huguely. If they choose not to speak, then the truth should come out at Mr. Huguely’s trail.

Charlottesville, VA – New information about how UVA student George Huguely is spending his time behind bars.

We’ve learned the 22-year-old is in a segregated cell in the Charlottesville jail for his own safety, and it took several days, but his family has finally been able to visit him.

Huguely is charged with killing fellow student Yeardley Love at her apartment near campus.

This weekend, more than 2,000 people attended her funeral in Maryland. The service was kept private due to the family’s wishes.
    ———————————-

  34. Judi says:

Thinking this though again (and again and again)…

I still think UVA ties into Morgan more directly. These are just my opinions.

Was Morgan killed close to UVA (near where her shirt was found) and transported to AF?

Was Morgan killed at AF (or close to it) and her shirt transported back to where it was found?

Transporting her in a vehicle post-death (or dying) would leave a wealth of DNA evidence in the perp’s vehicle. That seems terribly risky. It would be interesting to go back and see who may have sold or ditched a car in the immediate time period following Morgan’s disappearance.

I believe she was hanging closer to UVA and then someone took her to AF, maybe to try and become intimite with her and and when she rejected, he got angry and, well, we know what happened next.

I maintain that Morgan’s intent, after not being able to get back in the concert, was to hang in the immediate area until after the concert to return home with her friends.

** She would feel comfortable, at home even, hanging around a college campus with fellow college students **

I think where the shirt will prove to be close to where bad guy lives, rather placed there purposely for LE to find and hoped by who put it there that it would lead LE to bad guy OR gotten rid of in haste by said bad guy.

Nonetheless, it is of my opinion that someone from UVA or who lives close to UVA, not AF, is responsible for Morgan. AF is somewhere they were familiar (obviously) but also possibly thought it put enough distance between him and where Morgan was found. Also he may have thought that his ties to AF would not be easily uncovered if Morgan was found. I think bad guy was not worried about if she would eventually be found, otherwise he would have buried her or whatever. His ties, though obviously existent, AF may not be so visible on the surface.

May have to “dig” for his connection (chose my words carefully here).

  35. Judi says:

LE owes a public statement regarding safety issues on and around UVA.

They need to acknowledge that they have a major safety concern, they need to increase security big time around UVA grounds, they need to act like they have a killer on the lose endangering young women because they do!!!

Silence by LE is not helping keep these women safe.

Watch each other’s backs. Report anything/anybody that your gut tells you is not right. Safety in numbers. Lock your doors. Be on the alert. Be safe!

  36. Jim M says:

I am wondering if GH (or any LAX players) is recognized as one of the 3AM guys with possible Morgan siting by the Newspaper lady? I’m not sure where I stand regarding the possible connection between GH and Morgan–however I am concerned about a few things–GH didn’t just “accidently” kick a door down, smash Yeardley’s head in the wall in a violent, drunken rage–he took extras steps to conceal his crime: stealing clothing and her laptop computer. Is this the behavior of a one time killer?

One thing I will attest to emphatically ( note the tone and my mounting impatience)-

Huguely is a SERIALLY VIOLENT man.

On top of it, the Judge in this case has a conflict of interest.
She is a former law partner with the Defense Counsel, Fran Lawrence.

If she knows in advance she will need to step down, if I were appealing her order to seal warrants, as my editor Elizabeth Morton pointed out, I would be wording my appeal accordingly.

    Good morning all:

Observer: I am so glad that my rock finally made it! I am still here for Morgan, trying to keep my focus and hope to see justice for Morgan. Sympathies to you for all you have been through this week, and now the untimely passing of a co worker. Thank you for placing my rock for Morgan on the bridge.
I know this past week has been so very difficult, and traumatic for the students and for the locals, the faculty, staff….etc..UVA and the families, and community of Charlottesville. I hope for healing and perhaps some postive changes can be implemented because of this horrible tragedy.
    As PM1 so duly wrote:
“Blaming is not the answer, will not solve the problem and will not provide justice for or honor anyone lost to violence. Please find it in your hearts to quit playing the “blame game” and start playing the “change game”. I’m starting now.”
    So well said PM1.

One postive aspect of these 2 brutal murders of 2 young beautiful, vibrant ladies, is that Yeardly Love’s killer was arrested within 4 hours of her death. He now sits behind bars, locked up, off the streets and sober. The wheels of justice are turning.
Unfortunately, Morgan’s killer has not been found yet or even identified yet. We all need to see this same thing happen for Morgan. It has been 7 very long grueling months with no answers in regards to Morgan. The Harringtons deserve these answers. Morgan deserves answers.
Fish says:- “Or do we just accept that she dies broken and alone, laying in that field???”
No Fish, we do not, and we should not accept that. Let’s move towards a postive outcome for Morgan.
    J4M.

Back in the ’90s it was, “Hit it and Quit it.” In the 1970’s it was “Wam Bam, Thank You Ma’am and before that it was the “Four F’s…Find em, Feel em, F em, and Forget em.”

    ____________________________________________________________

not that it is critical to anything, but i wanted to add a guy’s perspective on the “give and go” comment…

not that it is any better than your presumption, but what he is implying is to “share” these girls…”give and go” is a basketball phrase/play meaning to pass the ball and ‘go’ towards the hoop with the intent to get the ball back and score…”it aint no fun if the homies can’t have none”(Snoop Dogg), if you will…

  39. Elizabeth says:

Lately I find myself wondering “what is VSP not saying”? If Morgans death a homocide how come we aren’t hearing anything more from them.

Can so many of us be wrong in feeling there should be press conferences and pictures of Morgans tshirt and information on what they are still looking for such as the necklace.

It’s almost like they want it to go away?

  40. acho says:

    HokieHi,

Sadly I have to work most of today, but I wanted to get back to you and say thanks. I am with you about staying focused on Morgan; however, I do worry that money could buy Huguely a defense that ensures justice is not fully served. (And BTW I think GH is too cowardly to harm himself, much as he probably wants to.)

I also want to rule out Huguely’s possible involvement in Morgan’s case. I am *so* bothered that it was a male lax player who turned in Morgan’s purse, when we were told it was a jogger. Something is up with that, and I want to get to the bottom of it.

Innocent till proven guilty, sure, but simultaneously, I say, as Blink does, “if it’s not out, it’s in.” I may be in the minority, but I still think we have to consider possible links to Morgan.

There are two locals on the mens lax team. One went to STAB, one to Monticello. I want to know whether they introduced the other players to any of their local friends. I also want to know whether the team expected locals to find drug connections. A lot has changed in the Cville/Alb drug world in the last year, so if one dealer’s lost, whom do they expect to find a new one?

BTW with the huge pot bust earlier this year, where is the land that’s growing the pot to serve all the Cvillians who smoke? Sure, there are dealers, but who grows and sells to them?

I know absolutely nothing, but I am curious.

There has long been talk that that college lacrosse players, like some professional athletes, have turned to steroids; and, as was first uncovered on crime blog blinkoncrime.com, one of Hugueley’s teammates was arrested five years ago while he was still a high school student, accused of smuggling steroids into America. UVA athletes are subject to occasional, random drug tests, which, according to Athletics Director Craig Littlepage, can cause their suspension from the team for an undefined period of time.

Hi, all — It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted — my laptop broke and then trying to get this up and running and then this terrible death just really sent me for a loop — now, this young woman who was a nursing student, I gather from Hummingbird’s post, and on the news the 25 y/o ladies golfer — my heart is heavy for all these families — which has caused me to reflect, what can “I” do to prevent this —

I’ve read accounts where Yeardley’s mother tried to get her to file a police report and Yeardley refused — I am not blaiming the mother — but if she didn’t contact either the coach or someone in authority at UVA about the recent physical confrontation, it strips anyone in authority of UVA the opportunity to act to help keep her safe —

I have zero affiliation w/ UVA, so I’m not taking up for them – I’m also not accusing them — someone posted a link to pix from the frat’s anniversary — in many of the pictures, the boys are holding cups and some beer bottles. If any of the boys holding a beer is under 21, they are in violation of the law — and the parents in the pix are all smiling — I know it’s a party, but a simple question of: are you old enough to drink ?

My boy is 19 — I’m not naive — I know he’s been out drinking w/ friends — I grill him all the time: who’s buying your booze — he has a friend, also 19, who drinks to excess and they refuse to name their source — their excuse is: we don’t drive, we just pass out where we are — he said his mother is aware, but she’s going thru a divorce and due to the economy, she is experiencing loss of income, and his drinking is put on her back burner when she’s trying to keep food on the table and the mortgage paid —

It is so hard to parent children at this age — they behave worse than toddlers sometimes, but you can’t pick them up and put them in their crib or sit them in time out.

As parents, we not only need to “take back the night,” but we need to take back our children. Sara Snead is not 21. But we all saw the Halloween pix. I notified the Harrisonburg police there was underage drinking going on. They did nothing. The police were called to her apt. in Dec., I believe, and she was issued a citation for “noise,” which was dismissed. Did the officers turn a blind eye to the alcohol that was probably sitting in plain view?

Va.’s legislature changed the legal drinking age in Va. from 18 to 21 for a reason — and took a lot of heat from lobbiest from restaurants and liquor, beer sales — there were so many alcohol-related incidents and deaths, they did what they could to try to save the lives of these young people and those they hurt in the process.

for those of you who do have children/friends at any state college in Va. or in the country, make your voices heard, even if it gets your own kid in trouble, that you want a stop to underage drinking in the dorms and buildings associated w/ your school.

Observer, my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. It seems like you’re caught in the crossfire of being loyal to your employer and loyal to your heart. FWIW, I’d do the same thing. I do not think that UVA is solely responsible for the tragic death of Yeardley Love. W/out having prior knowledge, there’s no way they could have anticipated GH’s actions. Even an anonymous call to UVA police on one of the many blue phones around campus that GH was on a rampage may have saved her life. Just from local news reports in Richmond, I know it’s being discussed in the governor’s office about safety on campus on all schools in Va.

    B, sorry this got long.

J2K, thanks for the kind words on MD’s — I wish I could have been there watching you in a frenzy in the kitchen while giving your love the evil eye to: go play for them ! : ) I, too, will always love the now-famous quote: socks in mouth (spits out lint).

Peace and warm wishes to all — Sky

PS: Blink, I know Yeardley is front and center, is there going to be a new page for Morgan ? I know VSP has ruled out any connection, but until I hear a report from multiple people who had eyes on GH in MD on the 17th from 8 PM forward, he’s not so easily vanquished from my list.

    There she is..

B, I dunno, but I’ll say it for the third time: One of the mens LAX players graduated from Monticello HS. Monticello HS serves North Garden, as well as other parts of Albemarle County.

Another of the mens LAX players went to STAB, which serves families able to pay its tuition (and kids who satisfy its admission standards) all over C’ville, Albemarle, and even some neighboring counties.

So, B, could the party have been at a local’s home, hosting both locals and UVa students, or was it solely a UVa student party? I realize you may not know, but I am SO with you in your questioning.

So far I’ve been able to come up with 4 players that were not at the scrimmage vs. Navy.

    http://www.virginiasports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17800&ATCLID=204817509

I thought the coach’s comment about Bratton missing it were a little odd. Blink do you know for sure how many players were not there on 10/18?

From the article “Nizolek, Clements and Thompson are recovering from injuries. Bratton’s issue?

“Little bit of a sore hamstring, little bit of a sore subject,” said Starsia, who didn’t elaborate. “Just held him out to get his attention on some things.”

Another interesting quote, “Final scores from these games aren’t announced, as anyone who’s attended a UVa scrimmage at the U-Hall Turf Field knows. But the Wahoos, after a slow start attributable in part, perhaps, to sluggishness from their morning bus ride to Annapolis, played the Midshipmen about even.”

Maybe the players were tired from the party the night before.

This article say 5 players were missing. However, it does not state all the players names.

Would all team mates be expected at the scrimmage, even if they were not playing? Are they required to travel with the team?

I just wish to point out that NO ARTICLE states if a player WAS NOT in attendance.

    It simply specifies IR.
