Continuing today, divers have been spotted along Sauvie Island being instructed by a Geospatial analyst. A source inside the investigation speaking to blinkoncrime.com on the condition of anonymity has confirmed the team is being guided by the aerial images taken from the National Guards Black Hawk Helicopter this past weekend. The team has been advised they are looking for a large container, possibly a suitcase or duffle bag, within the shore line. Fueling the speculation MCPD may be looking for a serial sex offender, following blinkoncrime.com article and radio interview Sunday evening,  journalists in Portland requested a judge make the Boy Scout “Perv Files” public information the following day in a previously unscheduled court appearance. On Monday, the judge promised to “get a decision out as fast as I can.” The jury awarded Lewis $1.4 million in compensatory damages and assessed the Scouts $18.5 million in punitive damages. The 1,247 files were described in court Monday as covering two decades and totaling more than 20,000 pages. The groups seeking the records are The Oregonian, The New York Times, Oregon Public Broadcasting, KGW-TV, The Associated Press and Courthouse News Service. Their lawyer, Dan Lindahl of Portland, cited the state constitution’s Bill of Rights: “No court shall be secret, but justice shall be administered, openly and without purchase.” Contributing editor Jason Mateos, Klaasend

Maybe I’ve seen too many movies, but I am thinking that they know who did this, but they don’t yet have all their ducks in order. I imagine they are watching this person 24/7 very closely and can therefore say with confidence that nobody needs to worry. If they obtained video or pics from the road that showed this person with Kyron or in the vicinity they are looking that strengthens their case. They need concrete evidence to start issuing warrants and really do their job. Remember the Constitution prohibits search and seizure based without strong evidence and that is what they are looking for. This person may have been questioned with an attorney present….may know his rights inside and out and that makes it even more difficult to build a strong case. Just my two cents.

I’ve got someone else who I’m taking a look at…-and an equally curious story to read…His name is Paul Pavlock. “He was arraigned on 23 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse. Pavlock shared images and movies that depicted children being sexually abused. Oregon Attorney General John Kroger said the investigation into Pavlock has identified 36 more child pornography suspects in 20 states. There are also an additional 41 suspects who have been identified overseas. These leads have been forwarded to other law enforcement agencies.
According to reports, Pavlock struck a deal with prosecutors to voluntarily appear in court last Thursday and he was not arrested after he was indicted.”
“Pavlock is an architect in Portland and owns his own company, Pavlock Architecture. He previously has served as an adjunct professor teaching interior design classes at Marylhurst in Lake Oswego, however, school officials said Pavlock was not teaching a class this term.”

I realize that the Mormon – LDS church doesn’t have a lock on child molestations – but just like the Boy Scouts, the Catholic Church and now LDS – all of the records should be released – NOW. This is yet another example:

    Thu, May 15 2008

    — METHUEN — A Boston law firm has filed a lawsuit against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on behalf of a mother who says her young son was sexually abused by former church baby sitter Kevin Curlew at the Hill Avenue parish.
The “John Doe” complaint filed this week in Lawrence Superior Court by Stanzler Levine LCC claims the church permitted Curlew to look after children despite a criminal record that included prior acts of sexual abuse.
The church then failed to contact police after the mother notified church authorities about the abuse, the lawsuit alleges.
“I brought this action only after it became came clear that the church’s concern was not with my son’s welfare, but with protecting themselves from bad publicity,” the boy’s mother is quoted as saying in a press release issued yesterday by attorney Liam Floyd of Stanzler Levine.
“I was horrified that after I told the church officials about the abuse, they still allowed the perpetrator free reign at the church, and my son was terrified,” said the woman, whose name was kept confidential to protect the boy’s identity.
Floyd said the boy suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and is in therapy to help deal with the trauma.
The mother, who became a Mormon 20 years ago, left the church after reporting the abuse to officials in fall 2005, according to the law firm.

Her maiden name is Moulton, and I believe her only other surname.

Does anyone else remember reading on some associated facebook that cousins were carjacked?

Good debate though….and who knows what the REAL outcome will be?

Blink,I know you have covered this topic already but I am missing something about why LE is staying with the family. Is this normal protocol? I am not insinuating SM, I am just curious about why they have spread that fact. Is it possibly to keep them from doing something they would regret?

I deferred this issue yesterday, but since they have released a pic of Kyron without his glasses, I feel pretty comfortable in saying I believe they have recovered Kyron’s glasses and what we saw where actually his.

As far as LE staying with the family, it is a policy and judgement call based on the situation.

I was looking at the possible routes that you posted and wanted to let you know that when I travel those back roads to Sauvie Island my GPS (shortest route) takes me past Skyline very close to the school on Cornelius Pass to the St. Helens Hwy and across the only bridge that connects to Sauvie Island. These roads are extremely narrow and windy, if you look at the map Cornelius Pass is the largest road in that area and it is just a small narrow two lane road.

I hate to say this but searching for this poor child is going to be very difficult. As stated previously this part of Oregon is known for being somewhat rainy, but it has been an exceptionally wet year. Everyone is commenting on the fact that there has been no spring.

This is creating very thick foliage and high grasses in an already heavily forested area. Also, if LE believe that whoever did this may have disposed of the body (sorry sounds so horrible) in the Columbia River; that is no small waterway the Columbia is a large river with very strong currents that flow directly out to the Pacific Ocean.
We have small fishing boats flip over and lose fisherman on that river every year and ofter times their bodies are never recovered.

I pray that is not the case for Kyron and his family.

My husband’s long time friend has been an island resident for the last two years. Last night we phoned and asked him about all the search activity there. For whatever reason, he was not too up-to-date on Kyron’s disappearance – not a big news watcher I guess. Anyway, he said that about 5 days ago he saw a white truck with a canopy traveling down a “road” that he had not seen anyone venture down before and thought it was strange. I think by “road” he meant a vegetated driving path. The time line of 5 days does not fit either. Anyway, we gave him the tip line number and tried to convince him to call in. He thinks the truck in that area was strange but probably nothing and did not want to leave a misleading tip. We told him that the authorities want all tips. Let them decide which ones are misleading. Anyway, I can not force our friends hand but thought I would put that out there just in case – for Kyron’s sake..

    RE: SS

If LE is looking in the river (?) for a container of sorts, luggage etc thinking the child may be inside of it leads me to think that the person that lifted that container with the child inside would need to be fairly strong. I personally can only lift about 25 lbs before my back, legs & heart gives out but I’m only 5’2″ & 125 lbs, however my age is against me in that respect. According to the published reports Kyron weighs about 50 lbs plus clothes, sneakers & that supposed container so taking all of that into consideration the perp would not only have to be able to pick him up but to carry him some sort of a distance.

But I do feel for whatever the reason this crime was specific to him & perhaps Kyron was just friendly to everyone he met so that made him an easy victim.

I’m wondering if there could be a hidden network of predator associates, possibly including ex-boy scout trained individuals who were victims of abuse from 20 to 30 years ago, who became predators themselves. They are skilled at living in the woods and could use interconnecting trails to travel to much more remote areas.

Ragdoll – You are a thought-provoking, insightful, good-hearted and valued poster with much to offer – never think otherwise, fellow prairie girl!

Blink – You stated that it was highly unlikely LE would be with the family 24/7 (in whatever capacity) if they suspected the perp amongst them and I agree it probably would be a little awkward constantly in close quarters like that, never mind the legal technicalities that may potentially incur. But, can you specify what kind of situations are typical for LE to be in the home 24/7 ? I’m thinking – a family member’s simple request, visual presence or protection and situations such as kidnappings or in this case a phone call from the perp being rare opportunity to record evidence then and there?

Is there a slight possibility LE might feel the best thing they have to go on is to pick up the subtleties of someone in the home, perhaps the reason they encouraged the family to continue their routine as normal – would they consider the kind of approach Leonard Padilla used when placing his employee in the home with Casey Anthony? There must be the catch 22 cases, when they have their suspect but no evidence to even suggest it out loud and yet the only evidence they forsee, is from the suspect him/herself. is there a certain order for exceptional circumstances warranting more questionable investigative techniques being approved by a judge, (future protection from what could be attacked by the defense)?

I’m trying to get my head past ‘the step mom’ and to what I believe next would have to be peripheral family members or ‘friends’. Perhaps the police are there because they are all aware of who this person is and they are coaching the family in how to deal with the overall situation and lure evidence from the person themselves.

I’m also wondering where the questioning was focused at the school. Kids at Kyron’s age usually have a best buddy or little posse they merge with any chance they get…ex) having desks beside each other, partners in gym class, plans for recess, lunch, after school etc…a day like the science fair is not a structured classroom, people are milling about – so to kids, this would be one of those opportune times to link up, if they have the freedom to do so – even just standing in front of their science displays together, checking out the other projects together or whatever else seems fun at the time.

I don’t imply that Kyron and a friend planned some secret escape – just simply that Kyron’s closest friend would likely have had tabs on him, more than anyone else (parents, teachers and all). If Kyron did arrive and was there long enough to acknowledge his buddy(s), then such a friend would probably notice some unplanned activity or person around Kyron and certainly realize faster than anyone else if he just left. Even if Kyron was enticed by a familiar face to go somewhere, its very likely he’d mention it to his friend (even boast as kids do) and the friend might also recognize anyone familiar enough for Kyron to recognize. A friend would also recognize Kyron’s project well enough to know it was there and that Kyron should be there with it.

If Kyron’s step-mother came in with him, to help set up his project and take a picture – it would seem he was there long enough for any friend or even the child whose project was set up next to him to be aware of him and especially aware of what would suddenly have him leave the room. Or were they there significantly earlier than most of the other kids?

i can still remember grade school well enough to know that it can pretty much be a ‘no-man’s’ land at an early enough time in the morning, but once the day begins – a child’s whereabouts was somehow accounted for at all times (i remember it was impossible when we even tried to hide!) Its not only due to the level of safety factors in place, its the general nature of kids at that age being extremely observant amongst themselves. their awareness of each other and their need for familiarity makes them extremely aware of their social environments in relation to themselves. they are usually pretty curious to down right nosy about everyone’s going ons, especially what deviates from their norm. it also an age where they are often quiet vocal about their observations (good or bad) and this could mean identifying someone they simply noticed as being fat or quickly pointing out whoever doesn’t hang their coat up – like the rest of the class. I remember at that age it was an especially big deal when anyone left class early for any reason at all or even when a staff member or someone’s parent was spotted outside our door, simply waiting to speak to the teacher or a student out in the hallway – we were always curious and so aware of anything out of the norm!

I know science day would’ve been different with so much activity, but not different enough to wipe everything from these student’s norm. There had to be one kid who was very aware of seeing him leave and would of been paying attention – if even to wonder, “Why is Kyron leaving before the talent show when he’s been rehearsing with us this whole time? or “How come Kyron got to leave and nobody else can? He didn’t even ask!” Friend or foe, Kyron’s peers would have noticed him leaving, if he was ever there within those walls….

Have they interviewed any such kids (close friend or in close proximity to Kyron that day)?

How did the teacher mark him absent if his jacket and bag were on his desk and his science project was all set-up? those would be the first two places to determine him absent or present that day. his things are on his desk, his project is there for everyone to observe – there’s no reason to think he was absent except someone telling her he wasn’t there or he was already marked absent from someone giving her advance notice days before. Did someone call the school pretending to be the step-mom with a pre-meditated plan to get him out of class? Someone who would have to know them enough to pull it off…

  20. hk says:

A lot of people seem to be stuck on the term “isolated incident.” I take it to mean only that this crime is not currently tied to any other known crime. That this crime isn’t a known serial occurrence or part of any known crime spree. That definition does not promise the chance of perp reoffending is zero.

On another point, the suspect arrested for the murder of Somer Thompson was under surveillance until police had sufficient evidence to arrest for something. And that arrest was for a different crime.

So yes, it is possible that police know who did this but do not have him/her currently in custody.

Also similar in this case to the Somer Thompson case is that police have not released every detail of what they know. Little Somer’s cause of death was not even released to the family until after the suspect was arrested.

My point is that police terms shouldn’t sway you to judgement. Nor should the lack of information coming for the police department. They have a job to do and that job does not involve leading the public down the criminal trail with them.

  22. Bearlyhere says:

I do appreciate that parent volunteers would want to help maintain safety at school events. One thing that is not done and may seem like an inconvenience, is to clear parents and any volunteer before they are allowed with our children. It bothers me that they are not checked. Even with being checked, there are those in our schools that are hired, were cleared, and then committed their ‘first’ recorded act. I say recorded because they may have offended already but no one reported it.

My son, as some of you who read the Monkeys know, had autism and his aide two years ago was fired near the end of the school year for inappropriate contact with another student. I never understood why he was not arrested. It was not my son, but my son had complained about this man’s treatment of students all year. They never listened to him.

How do these people get under the radar? We take no legal action. He was fired but no criminal action was taken. This has happened with other teachers in our district who have had consensual sex with students, they are fired but no arrest because it is high school and they have passed the age of consent. Why do we allow this to happen? It allows perps to go under the radar. A 50 year old man has no business having sex with a high school student, consensual or not, I feel it is a crime.

I found out my son’s aide was fired from a parent in a store. No one from the district told me. Talk about trust issues.

  23. Bearlyhere says:

One thing we see set up in schools after our children go missing is a place for reflection or vigil. Maybe students should have access to a small place like this during the year, where they can sit and reflect, outside of the hubbub in the hallways. If they had this, maybe some kids would think before acting when they are riled up, or feeling frustrated. A moment of silence during the day is not a bad idea, either.

We need to be proactive in our schools, reactive is just not working.

  24. SS says:

Been reading on another website that the family’s white truck was towed away for some reason and that property across the street was being searched. IF they’re looking at a family member or members, of course the truck might have certain mud or weeds on it somewhere or there were tire tracks found somewhere that they want to match. Also I read elsewhere that it was actually the bus driver who called the school when it was discovered that Kyron was missing. So I guess the parent or parents who arrived at the bus stop didn’t have a cell phone on them? Also I read that the dad said that “we” went to the bus stop, sort of like that meant he and the SM, when previously I had read it was only the SM who went to the bus stop. So did just she go, or did they both go? If they both went, was that the norm for both parents to drop everything at 3:45 or whatever and drive to the bus stop to pick up one child? Just wondering. And back to the school again, if no one saw him leave, there are other ways out of the school that no one would notice – a janitor’s cart, for example. Or a big suitcase or a big box. Just get the child into a storage room on pretext of showing him an “electricity project” and then he gets, let’s say, chloroformed, to keep him quiet, then put inside something, then placed on a hand cart and walked out of the school to a truck. On a busy day who would notice that? This all speaks of great premeditation though if the perp was a family member or members. Again, the cops said it was an “isolated” occurrence, meaning that they believe for some reason strongly that no other kids are in danger and it was only Kyron who was targeted. I’m just throwing my thoughts and opinions out there based on what I have read….I am wondering if anyone checked to see if there is a life insurance policy on Kyron (possible motive!). They probably did check. That’s one of the first things they would check if they thought family was involved I suppose…

I want to address the teacher marking Kyron absent issue. As a former teacher,I can tell you that it is not at that strange…whether that is good or bad. If he had been in class and then was gone–that would sounded alarms all over the place, but since he was never in his desk and marked absent form the get-go…it’s quite normal. Teachers take attendance and the office handles the administrative stuff. Unless you have taught you cannot understand that often a teacher cannot find even five minutes to call a parent. It was a single absence of a normal happy boy. I think the fact that Kyron had been with his mom at the science fair makes even more convincing to a teacher that nothing is wrong. She likely thought they had an appt, or some other business to attend to, but they didn’t want to miss the fair. His coat or backpack could have been forgotten or gone unnoticed. Kids forget things all the time.

Odd timing on the truck towing. And also odd that the truck is not actually being “towed” but is being “carried” by a flatbed (as though to preserve any dirt in the tires or undercarriage). I hate to say it because I have maintained that the family is innocent, but the timing on this is so bizarre.

Does anyone know if Kyron had a different custody arrangement for summers?

  32. Hulagirl says:

There were two neighbors who live next to the school who reported seeing “a mysterious white truck” with a female driver in the area of the school on a dead end street the day of his disappearance. May not be the same truck at all, but it is a coincidence.

  33. HK says:

I think the stepmom’s actions during the family statement were odd. Fake. Forced.

(I also felt that way about Deina Thompson. Still think there is more to that story.)

But Blink seems so positive about a stranger/RSO. I’m torn.

Just to clarify, I do not think this is a stranger abduction whatsoever. I think Kyron and the family know this individual.

  34. IMOIMO says:

Someone may have already answered this so my apologies in advance if it’s been asked and answered but I was curious to know why the billboards are in English, Spanish and Russian? I’m not familiar with Oregon at all so is that a place where many Russians reside? I know on the east coast you can find many Russian immigrants working in Nags Head, NC during the summer, is that the same in Oregon?

  35. Hulagirl says:

If I recall correctly the white truck was spotted by the male neighbor at 3pm June 4th (before Kyron was reported missing). The female neighbor reported seeing (probably the same) white truck at 2am. Does anyone know if the 2am sighting was on the night BEFORE Kyron went missing, or was it the night that (AFTER) he was reported missing? Just curious….

  36. Hulagirl says:

    IMOIMO,
Yes, Portland and a few of it’s surrounding areas have a fairly large Russian population.

  37. TR says:

    Hulagirl–

The 2:00 a.m. spotting of truck was after Kyron went missing.

  38. Sunshine says:

Did Kyron’s step mother usually bring him to school everyday, or was it only June 4th that she drove him to school because of the science fair?

the reason I’m asking this is because I’m wondering if someone could have followed them and knew their habits of bringing Kyron to school everyday. I also think its important to note that the police are also looking for any surveillance videos from 6/3-6/4.

maybe this perpetrator was practicing, mapping out how long it would take for him to get out of the immediate area with Kyron.

also, what if its a family member or family friend who doesn’t live in the immediate area, but they are trying to figure out if they can place this person in the area in the day before Kyron disappeared.

or, maybe they want the surveillance from june 3rd to try to poke a hole in a poi’s alibi, proving that they were in the area when they are saying they aren’t..

“Someone may have already answered this so my apologies in advance if it’s been asked and answered but I was curious to know why the billboards are in English, Spanish and Russian?”

Yes, there is a large Russian community in Portland. A coworker of Kyron’s dad, who works at Intel, produced these in several languages to increase the reach of the poster.

  40. Twinkletoes says:

I tell you what, if my kid were missing, you’d be hearing reports of a red mini van driving all over the county at 5 miles an hour until I brought him home. If the white truck sighting was after the report of Kyron going missing, it makes perfect sense to me that the Hormans would be scouring every nook and cranny with their white truck.

This is what I believe also.

Maybe if it is a family member, and the family knows or has an idea of who it is, then that person is someone on Terri’s side of the family perhaps, and that is why she has a look of guilt that some have mentioned (I’m not saying either way). Just a thought. Maybe knowing who may have done this is causing her to act as she does. I know if one of my family members harmed someone in the family, I would feel incredibly responsible. Or maybe just the fact that she was the last one with him and this happened has made her feel this way. I would feel horrible if I let him go and then this happened. Every night I would have nightmares of that moment when we said goodbye.

  42. Twinkletoes says:

Guess who was booked today in Kylor’s county? Registered SO Michael Lowry–parole violation.

Lowry’s MO appears to be adult females, rape. However, he lives just the street from cub molester, Timur Dykes.

    Blink,

I DID see on her (terri horman’s) facebook page that her cousin in CA, (for whatever reason she stated that her cousin and her fiance were both black) were mugged/assaulted/jumped, something along those lines. It stuck out to me too. The post was a little hard to follow, but she said that they were fine, her cousin was shaken and I believe that they still hadn’t caught the person(s) responsible…It seemed really strange to me. But I couldn’t figure out exactly why.

  45. TR says:

    Twinkletoes–
Good point on the truck sightings. That is a reasonable assumption.
They have been very quiet or nothing new has turned up. I am impressed with the lack of leaks in this case–there have been none.

  46. HK says:

B: “Just to clarify, I do not think this is a stranger abduction whatsoever. I think Kyron and the family know this individual.”

My fault. I didn’t mean total stranger. I meant non-family member.

  47. Twinkletoes says:

It is hard for the media to solve a case, as Walsh says, if LE doesn’t share information. I understand that LE are the experts, etc, but it is the public interest that keeps these cases alive. LE is busy and one case gives way to the next, but we don’t forget those details and someone somewhere is going to let something slip, if they haven’t already. I have already seen reports this afternoon that Kyron’s case is turning cold. Noooooooooooooooo! This little boy needs justice.

  48. Titch says:

    Here ya go, Blink :)
First, I did a usa people search on Terri Moulton. Here’s the link, but it drops off the info so you’ll have to type in her name:
    http://www.usa-people-search.com/
Go down to the one that coincides or relates to her & this is what you’ll find:
    MOULTON, TERRI LYNN
    Associated names:
    ECKER, TERI L
    ECKER, TERRI LYNN
    HORMAN, TERRI
    MOUTLON, TERRI
    TARVER, TERRI LYNN
It lists her known cities and relatives at the side. The adoption link that I supplied is from when she was married to Richard, I guess she started to look for her birth mother or something? Listen, I know this may be nothing, nothing at all, she could be completely innocent and I honestly from the bottom of my heart hope to GOD she is, but it gives me goosebumps when I see one that one of her email addresses was lewd_conduct and she was trying to be a teacher at the time she had that email. Maybe my info is erroneous and I’m off base. Just do a background check. I agree with you and think it could be anybody, especially a SO that fell off radar, but in my mind I still can’t rule her out…I wish I could. Something just doesn’t add up.
