Kyron Horman Missing and Endangered: Grand Jury Meets, Indictment Imminent

Portland, OR- In the case of missing 7-year-old Portland child Kyron Horman, developments today continue to unfold at lightening speed.

During a poorly-kept secret convening of a special grand jury that is in session today, sources inside the investigation believe it’s triers of fact will return an indictment against Terri Horman and possibly one other individual.

It is however, unclear as to whether or not the grand jury is hearing evidence in the alleged murder for hire plot MCSO informed Kaine Horman his wife had master-minded, OR evidence surrounding the disappearance of Kaine and Desiree Young’s son Kyron.

KOIN caught Terri Horman’s friend DeDe Spicher, who was subpoenaed to appear in the proceedings this morning, on video with her attorney, entering the courthouse. Spicher was the subject of a public plea asking her to cooperate with investigators by Kaine Horman and Desiree Young last week.  A neighbor of Spicher’s has confirmed the FBI has been seen removing boxes and unknown bagged material from her residence.

According to several sources, DeDe Spicher, Terri’s roommate  post Kaine’s restraining order,  was working in a garden near the Horman home the day of Kyron’s disappearance when she received a call at approximately 11:15 am. She left abruptly, returning at approximately 1:00 pm. DeDe was unreachable on her cell phone during that time and the property owner became concerned. Spicher is a long time friend and workout companion of Horman’s.

Earlier today, Laura Rackner, Kaine Horman’s Family Law attorney filed a motion to find out where the funds are coming from to foot the bill for Terri Horman’s high profile criminal defense attorney, Stephen Houze.

In Horman’s motion, he is seeking the disclosure of the payments made to Houze, and whether or not it came from marital funds. If it has, Kaine Horman wants half the cash to pay his own legal bills. Kaine Horman alleges that Terri Horman disclosed to a third party that she paid a whopping $350,000 retainer to Houze, however, provided no proof of same in the papers filed today.

In what appears to be a media timing coup, tonight’s episode of Dateline NBC will feature Kaine Horman, Desiree and Tony Young, with interviews and coverage of Kyron’s disappearance.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Mary Lindstrand, has announced a press conference tomorrow at the MCSO Training Facility, beginning at 2:00 pm PST.

KATU just interviewed a Dave Stensen who is the Groundskeeper for Skyline School and works for the City of Portland. City of Ptld provides the maintenance and landscaping for Skyline School.

Dave Stensen stated that he “used the access road in front of the school to get his truck and mowing equipment up to the soccer fields” the morning of June 4th. He also stated he “cuts the grass between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.” and said he would have known if another vehicle was parked in the roadway as he would “not have been able to get by”.

If one of the reasons TH drove the truck on June 4th was to avoid exposure, then why park on the gravel road in front of the school to begin with. The exposure as the video shows, is just too great from the east and west bound traffic. This is probably why more people didn’t see the truck.

Why not wait until closer to 8:45 to park there. Whoever was with TH they worked out a time to meet down at the gravel road. They would have either parked the truck behind the school or, what I think is more likely, drive around for half an hour or so and then meet at the gravel road.

KATU has an article that the Skyline Elementary groundskeeper says he was using/working alongside the access road on the morning of June 4 and never saw the Horman truck in that location (one of the locations LE referred to in their press conference). He stated he would have definitely seen it if it was there between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. when he cut the grass on the soccer field the morning of June 4.

“Based on the investigators’ timeline, and if Stensen’s times are accurate, the window for the white truck to be on the access road narrows to the 15 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.”

Not sure whether this bodes well or ill for TH.

Whoever 42 is, she holds a tremendous amount of anger toward Kaine and toward LE — anger that resorts to calling names like “malignant narcissist”. Since there is nothing that Kaine has done in the public’s view that is either malignant or narcissistic, it leads me to believe that 42 knows Kaine on a personal level.

Remember what they say about anger:

“School groundskeeper never saw Hormans’ white truck”

“Stensen said he used the access road to get his truck and mowing equipment up to the soccer field like he always does. He said he cut the grass on the soccer field between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. the morning of June 4 and never saw the Hormans’ truck on the road.”

“Based on the investigators’ timeline, and if Stensen’s times are accurate, the window for the white truck to be on the access road narrows to the 15 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.”

If they were only asking who actually saw the truck until recently, there was no reason for this man to come forward just to say he didn’t see it. Very good example of why the investigation moves so slowly and how new information can really make a difference.

How could he remember so accurately? Everybody who was at that school on June 4th immediately thought about where they were and what they saw and did, and will not have forgotten even if it hasn’t come up before. Also, Mr. Stensen works at other schools as well and is responsible for planning and keeping a schedule and the use of maintenance equipment. He probably went to another job as soon as he was done (easy to verify). The fact that he did NOT see the truck during his work time can be as helpful as the information from another who did.

Stensen also said, “(I) noticed that there was some children that came out the back door, and I thought, ‘please don’t come down and play soccer.’ But they came out and looked at some plants that were in the raised bed.”

The article didn’t give the time for seeing the children, but it would have been before 8:30 AM when he was done. It would be interesting to know more about those children – with an adult?
    - a regular morning visit to check on the plants?
    - something many parents might be invited to look at while visiting the SF (given our spring weather, it might have been slow to grow and just starting to be interesting)? Would this have given an adult the opportunity to ask Kyron to show where the garden was? Is the parking area visible from the raised bed?

  14. Lee says:

    @CentralORMom: Thank you!
    —————————–
I still cannot piece together a “well thought out plan” that includes a 60 to 90-minute drive on back roads that cannot be corroborated. If TH was in on planning the abduction of Kyron and the intended outcome then things didn’t go as planned or all of her time that day would be accounted for with no huge gaps in the timeline. I absolutely agree that TH “let the vampire in”. The question is how far did she open the door?

MockingbirdSings- excellent insight. I think you hit a nail square on the head.

  16. MockingbirdSings says:

Some think perhaps Terri switched vehicles with someone else while at the school. Could be, but unlikely that Kiara would have moved with her since it’s a big pain to fit a car seat into a different vehicle, then adjust it, plus it takes time and would be noticeable to anyone who walked by. I’d be amazed if DeDe or Rudy or anyone else I can think of just happened to have a car safety seat appropriate for her already installed in their own vehicle in order to switch. (Oregon law requires appropriate safety seats for children.) If so, THAT would be significant planning on Terri’s part.

And why move Kyron to another vehicle if he didn’t usually ride in it? Being in the Horman truck wouldn’t raise any red flags in an investigation.

The only other possible vehicle that easily works for both Kyron and Kiara would have been the red mustang which Kaine had – unless it could have been used and put back without his knowledge (pretty risky if not impossible). If he has an assigned parking place, it could have been taken and returned, but still could have been easily noticed. (Most parents who are on the go and switch cars frequently, have a car seat in both.) But the red mustang couldn’t have come to the school without being noticed, so it hardly seems worth the risk to try using it.

So what combinations does this allow –
Terri takes another vehicle and puts Kyron in it, leaving Kiara behind in the truck with someone else. Only works if it was DeDe or another trusted (girl?) friend in the truck with Kiara unless she was desperate to do it this way. Whoever owned this vehicle would have had to deal with the evidence that Kyron had been in it.

Terri takes another vehicle and moves Kiara’s car seat for her, leaving Kyron in the truck with someone else. Possibly if they were going to meet again shortly – she would have to have the truck back to complete her alibi. But why bother when he probably didn’t show up through the tinted windows anyway, unless that person was going to remove Kyron before meeting her again.

Terri leaves in the truck with Kiara and Kyron. Whatever happens to Kyron, begins (and maybe ends) somewhere else – any place from a forest road, to someone’s house, to a FM parking lot.

Terri leaves in the truck with Kiara while Kyron is still at school. Someone else takes him (not willingly if he thought he was going to the doctor because only Terri would have taken him there.) Terri wouldn’t have to meet up with anyone again right away. This does not eliminate the possibility that she knew all about it – too many indications that she did. And whoever took Kyron would have to deal with the evidence that he had been in the vehicle.

Terri leaves in the truck with Kiara while Kyron is still at school. Some person(s) has created this elaborate plan, complete with SF timing, in order to take Kyron for some sinister reason without Terri’s knowledge. That person either informs her later for his or her own reasons, or the whole thing is done with Terri in the dark and still in the dark. (This begs us to overlook a lot.)

Terri leaves in the truck with Kiara. She comes back immediately to get Kyron, so (if she’s seen), we have witnesses who saw her leave without him and some who saw her leave with him, confusing everybody. (Perhaps she did stop below the school long enough to count to ten and turn around.)

Terri takes both Kyron and Kiara in another vehicle and someone else takes the truck as a decoy for some reason. (She could have told Kyron the truck wouldn’t start.) If this were true, maybe parking in front of the school in 2 places was intentional so it would be noticed to change the timeline. This doesn’t make a lot of sense though, because I haven’t seen anything but the license plate that distinguishes Kaine’s truck enough for someone to notice it was his while driving past, especially with more people coming and going for the SF. (nothing like a business name, big dent, whatever, and people don’t memorize each others plates unless it’s a vanity one) And, she would still need the truck back ASAP, evidence of Kyron and Kiara would be in the other vehicle, and it’s just too complicated.

    What have I missed?

Okay, if FM #1 didn’t have what she wanted, and that’s even hinky (but possible) why would she go clear to Walker Rd? If it was an RX, a doctor wouldnt have written a prescription without seeing her, and there’s a whole lotta talkin’ about going to the doctor, but doesn’t sound like anybody ever went, and by the way, I suspect LE has talked to any and all potential doctors by now….there is an Albertson’s off West Union and they have Kiddy medications for Kitty (aka KMFK for future abbreviators). Plenty of stores in between Skyline area and Walker Rd Fred Meyer, although I guess that too is near where she worked out. And whatever happened to the chit chat about Albertson’s on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy which is like NO where near Horman territory? And, in Oregon…there is a Starbucks every 1.5 blocks around here…….I used to live in Sherwood..FOUR on one intersection.

Regarding immunity, now correct me B if I am delusional…s/l you’re granted immunity, but only about that which you may incriminate about yourself, so s/l a skilled prosecutor could find his/her way around that….. or is that too slippery of a slope? Okay, if FM #1 didn’t have what she wanted, and that’s even hinky (but possible) why would she go clear to Walker Rd?

As to why go to more than one store, I can tell you from experience that certain medications are not stocked at all pharmacies and/or sometimes, pharmacies run out of a particular drug.

There’s could also be good reason she only went to Fred Meyer only. Insurance companies contract with pharmacy chains, and most don’t contract with all pharmacies. Gone are the days of buying medications anywhere you want and having them covered by insurance.

I recently had two problem prescriptions — one was an NSAID eye drop for a family member which although a popular medication, was not carried by the neighborhood Saveon pharmacy. The same pharmacy also ran out of a specific common blood pressure medication that they do typically carry. As a result, I had to choose between driving around to another Savon, paying full price at a non-Savon pharmacy, or waiting for my local Saveon to get the medicine I needed.

I’m sure there are others here who have family members with chronic medical conditions who have encountered this same problem as well.

s/l you’re granted immunity, but only about that which you may incriminate about yourself, so s/l a skilled prosecutor could find his/her way around that

    What is “s/l”? “So long”?

Our news stations are saying they have NEVER seen the level of secrecy involved with a GJ such as this.

Gimme a break. Grand juries are always secret. News outlets typically do not know what goes on at grand juries because they are secret proceedings. Duh.

No doubt the prosecutor is trying to protect witnesses who have information from being tried in the “true crime” forums. You would not believe how many bystanders in this matter have been harassed on-line and off-line by lay people who are pinch hitting as wannabe private investigators.

One farm owner was accused of feeding Kyron to her pigs simply because DeDe subscribed to her Twitter feed. That kind of behavior says more about the idiots who harassed the farm owner than it does about the farm owner who is the victim of their slurs.

There comes a point where people really need to step away from the keyboard. Really.

Kyron needs to come home now, but doing a slash-and-burn on innocent people won’t help persuade people who “know something” to come forward. Quit the opposite: Recklessness has a very real chilling effect on potential witnesses.

Just my personal belief on this.

No, I don’t know Terri or anyone else in this matter.

  20. FLGirl says:

I’m not sure about the truck being parked on the ‘dirt road’ area next to the school. IMO, it doesn’t HAVE to be there for the kidnapping to work. It’s odd enough that apparently she parked around the back initially, and claimed that it was because parking was so crowded, when it actually wasn’t. That’s enough of a red flag; and makes it possible to get Kyron out the back, where people would not be going in and out, and not be seen.

So, the kidnapping most definitely still works, even if the truck wasn’t parked on the side of the school.

However, since the groundskeeper says he was down that road/mowing from 7:45-8:30, that does not discount the idea of Terri’s truck being there. Still very much possible.

Per LE’s timeline, it was 8:45 when Terri last claims to have seen Kyron in the school. If the groundskeeper was done by 8:30, that gives someone 15 minutes to move the truck to the side of the building. Definitely doable.

So, perhaps that’s the reason for the 2nd person in the truck; not only to keep an eye on Kiara, but also to move the truck from it’s original parking space. So, Terri tells Kyron to go out the side door and meet whomever the 2nd person is.

Again, I’m going to have to discount Rudy, or Anselmo, as not only do I believe Terri would not leave Kiara with either of the men whom she considered potential would-be hitmen/kidnappers; but I also doubt Kyron would willingly go out to the truck with either of them. I’m tending to believe the friend was someone Kyron knew well; MC perhaps, otherwise a woman, who would be non-threatening.

I do believe, and I have believed from the beginning, that Terri sent Kyron out to the truck for some reason, and said she’d meet them there. It seemed more plausible when we found out that Kyron was apparently told he was going to the Dr. And it seems yet even more plausible now, knowing that a 2nd person was likely in the truck. If it was DeDe or another friend, Kyron wouldn’t have thought anything of going out to the truck to wait with this friend, for Terri to meet them. On the off chance Kyron did wonder why so-and-so was there, well Terri could just say it was to watch Kiara while she went to look at the exhibits and while Kyron was seeing the doctor.

I don’t believe he would’ve been concerned whatsoever that something bad was going on, if he was getting into the truck with his stepmother, sister and friend of the family.

I might be a little late to the party but, why is everyone talking about Starbucks? Does that now fit in the timeline?

    ——————————
Starbucks is part of Terri’s timeline after she left the school the morning of Kyron’s disappearance. Her alibi is based on receipts she’s produced. One of the locations she stopped at was a Fred Myers, which has a Starbucks within the store apparently. Assuming one of her receipts was from Starbucks. Either way, it’s very much involved in her alibi/timeline from that morning, as a couple of Starbucks employees have testified before the Grand Jury.

I assume that they may be asked to id Terri as the person who was in the store; or to address her behavior/demeanor, and perhaps whether she was alone or with someone else.

  22. FLGirl says:

Ok so, as of the latest info, we have a timeline of DeDe being missing from 10am-1pm. There’s also the information that DeDe’s truck never left the job site property.

If that’s the case, it means there had to be at least 3 people involved in this. Obviously if DeDe didn’t disappear until 10am, she couldn’t be the 2nd person in Terri’s truck.

Unless — do we know for SURE that DeDe was spotted at the job site; or remained at the job site until 10am? Or is that just when it was noticed she was missing? Cause, perhaps she could’ve dropped off her truck, then told the homeowner and coworker that she’d be working in a specific area; and they didn’t notice she was gone until 10am?

Granted that means DeDe would’ve had to have dropped her truck at about 8am, and Terri would’ve picked her up between 8:05-8:10; which is possible since the job site is only 1 mile from the school.

However, if DeDe is accounted for at the house, for at least some period of time leading up till 10am, then that means she wasn’t at the school and was only picked-up after. Which means, the 2nd person is someone else completely; and that there are now at least 3 people involved in what went down that day.

So, if DeDe wasn’t there at the school to begin with, why was she later added to the mix? Couldn’t Terri and Person #2 do whatever she wanted to do to Kyron? And if DeDe wasn’t picked up until 10am, then she wasn’t part of the grocery store alibis.

So why was she picked up? To help put Kyron somewhere that he wouldn’t be found? That’s an awful thought. It’s bad enough to speculate what has become of Kyron; but the idea that she would need TWO people to help her do whatever she did to him??? :(

It is odd though; if there was a 2nd person in the truck, it makes sense that they watch Kyron or make sure no one discovers him, while Terri runs in and establishes alibis; then they go do whatever to him. But, does DeDe just have an extra-sick/diabolical mind; that they needed her to come up with something that Terri and Person #2 couldn’t?

  23. Ava says:

I agree and believe the general consensus is that ‘TH probably drove the truck that day is b/c white pickups are so common that it wouldn’t stand out’. The back-roads near Germantown Rd. and the areas surrounding are also filled with lots of S curves — which IMO lessens the chance of seeing WHO is in the car, as the driver is focused on the road and less on who is passing/driving by. And white trucks are very prominent in the area which make it easily non-descript.

I agree with Desiree when she says this was “very planned”. With the recent revelations about DD being MIA since 10 am, I’m further convinced that she was TH’s go-to.

A pre-emptive apology if I offend someone by this statement: This ‘gang’ theory that is floating around is sorta silly. I see 2 women and to me, doesn’t make a gang. Regarding FM being out of a med. Whether it was prescription or over the counter, their inventory tracking system would be pretty accurate as to what was available on June 4th.

  34. Phyl says:

I just want to add that several years ago there was a very old man that lived up the block from me who was found brutally murdered in his apartment. Police canvassed the neighborhood and left business cards in door jams for those who didn’t answer the door. I came home from work to find a business card in my door. I knew at that point anyone and everyone could be a suspect and immediately thought. Hmmm, an observant detective would notice that no one answered the door for him, but my air conditioning was on (which I left on for my cat.) Animal lovers understand. Anyway, I didn’t think I had any information to give them, so I didn’t call. Weeks go by and then something strange happened. A group of people were gathered near the old man’s apartment and there was this creepy looking guy that was asking the neighbors all these questions. He just seemed OVERLY interested in what police had narrowed down so far. I found out he lived in a halfway house not too far from the murder scene. So what do I do? I find the business card and call the detective. After telling this to my brother who was in LE and still alive at the time, he said, “Congratulations sis, you just became a suspect.” Well after an hour of being interviewed and driving the detective nuts because I don’t know my Norths from my Souths and I’m more of a big picture thinker than a preciser (if that’s a word), and explaining to him why I leave my air conditioner on for my cat, I still believe I did the right thing. And I’m not in jail. They eventually found the creep who murdered that poor old man. It wasn’t from my lead, but it could have been.

  35. interested bystander says:

At this point, I don’t believe for a minute that the school maintenance/landscape person is in the news by accident. He remembers things so accurately because I’m sure LE had drilled him extensively at the time this happened.

In regards to 42nd state, I applaud her initiative but to create a blog to voice my opinion about this story seems excessive.

She seems to know a lot about search and rescue. Seems to have quite a bit of anger. I also wonder if she works at Intel. I would believe LE was using high powered camera equipment. I observed some sort of equipment dropped below the helicopter as they were flying in the swamp areas around Hwy 30 at the time.

Eloise…I was not bringing 42nd street into the conversation, there have been a couple of posters that were courious as to where she went and why,I found out for them and posted the complete paragraph where she states her reason. I did NOT intend to start a rumor or a debate on what she posted. Having said that I have to add, I’m not a follower of her but when she’s not “out there” she makes a lot sense.
    ^^^^^^^
    Whoa-
I dont believe I said you did. I also clearly ~snipped~ your quote, as there have been complaints about lengthy posts. My reference to the rumour was in regard to whether ‘anybody’ would bring that topic up again, or if it was a dead issue. Apparently it is not for 42nd St. I am glad you conveyed your concern, we dont want anyone to think you are spreading rumours, apologies if that is how it came across.

re: these photos that state they are views from/to TH’s car. Do FM stores have Parent and Child parking? Just trying to figure if she parked that far away on purpose or if it would have been so busy on a Friday morning that she couldn’t get close.

  38. Rich M says:

Thanks to those who pulled up the old FB stuff on Terris Fred Meyers buddies. Since she was so cozy with the FM staff, I would think they would have no trouble remembering her when speaking with the GJ.

Yea, there’s some misinformation .. even disinformation .. and very little real information .. I’m even beginning to suspect Blink’s information .. :)

All we know is a 7 y/o boy “disappeared” from school … what time? by whom? in what vehicle? .. and no evidence that he “isn’t” still alive?

And no evidence that the boy “isn’t” still alive?

  40. KB in OR says:

    @Miss Monkey:

No child/parent parking at the FM store.

The view of the picture is from the clothing/electronics entrance facing out toward Walker Road. It is also the side with the Starbucks. There would definitely be closer parking at that time of day if you wanted to park closer. If that is where TH parked, it is a strange choice. Walker Road is VERY busy and there are always people walking and driving along there. It is also the side with the Starbucks so tons of people coming in and out at the that time. That is definitely not the side of the lot I would pick to be sneaky. (Not that I ever do anything sneaky…lol) There is another lot on the other side that isn’t visible from Walker Road, has lots of trees and doesn’t have a busy Starbucks with people going in and out all the time. I would think they would park there.

  41. interested bystander says:

@MissMonkey – Good thoughts but I don’t think the parking location necessarily provides red flags.

At the Cornelius store, in my opinion, may make sense. It is not busy, BUT, she would have entered from an entrance at that side of the lot coming from the school. It makes it easy to exit. There is a traffic light near the front door of FM -you want to avoid exiting that way, too busy. If she is driving a big truck that she isn’t used to driving all the time, may be easier to manage further away. I would not be totally surprised by this spot, except that it is closer to the garden center. Wouldn’t need to go that far.

The Walker FM location makes perfect sense.

Ok so, as of the latest info,

Those are excellent questions and observations. I have also wondered about how DD could possibly be the person in the vicinity of the truck if we find out that she was seen working while Terri and Kyron were at the school.

Also posted this on Scared Monkeys but wanted to post it here also.

I have thought about this as a possible scenario and it still seems viable to me.

Let’s hope he is safe and being cared for. There’s a chance.

  43. justjane says:

In regards to where TH parked at FM. Maybe it was really busy and there was no where else to park? The FM near me is always packed and sometimes you have to park on the side streets, (but they do have a smaller parking lot). or

maybe she just wasn’t comfortable driving that big truck around. I used to park further out when I had my husbands truck for fear of not being able to back out of the parking space with out incident.

  44. KB in OR says:

It makes much more sense to me now, all the LE and weird comings and goings from that FM and Starbucks. I wondered what was going on, but just figured that was where local LE got their coffee and met up for briefings or whatever in the mornings. I’m surprised I haven’t heard more from the local station KPTV 12 on it, as they have been there a ton lately, too. Maybe they are just there because it’s close to the studio, though.

  45. Cathy Bickel says:

@Eloise…your post is absolutely correct, you did not mention me by name, however I did post to mosiac about 42nd street and I wanted to make sure that you and everyone else understand why I posted her information. No apoligy necessary at all! Sometimes in trying to make my posts short I sometimes come across to be people as being a tad bit short tempered or that I am offened about something someone says when I’m not. btw…I enjoy your posts!

Thoughts and prayers are with Kyron, his brothers and sister.

Some, with experience in the field of law, have implied that the prosecuter would be unlikely to subpoena primary suspects to a grand jury. Am I understanding that correctly?

Is there anything to be surmised by Rudy Sanchez’s appearance at the grand jury?

I don’t know what car I parked by last night
    at work
so all this stuff seems odd
    sometimes I can’t remember where I parked
but Bless them that have such memories

as for 42nd State she is fun to read
    as are many others

it is that support page I don’t understand
all I get is pics of Terri over there
I must not know how to work it
    hope Kyron is home soon

  48. cosmos says:

Kyron will be turning 8 right after Labor Day. School will be resuming soon. He may be starting school again, somewhere else, under a different identity.

In my state, for his age, he could be starting 2nd grade (instead of 3rd) because he’d still be 7 on Sept. 1st. School starts in August here.

And in another country, who knows? Stranger things have happened, but maybe he will turn up in a school, somewhere. Here’s hoping someone (like a teacher) might recognize him. It’s happened before:
