Haleigh Cummings Case: Misty Croslin Confession.. “He took her away in a Black Bag”

As 18 year old  Misty Croslin pleaded no contest to another drug trafficking charge today, Defense Attorney Robert Fields told the court his client, Misty Croslin, former wife of Haleigh Cummings Father Ron, also serving time on drug charges, that she knew what happened to 5 year old Haleigh the night of February 10, 2009.

Courtesy 4Jax

“According to Misty, Joe took Haleigh while Misty was laying in bed and covered herself up with a blanket,” Fields told Channel 4 Tuesday morning outside the courtroom. “They were there for like seven minutes, appeared to be on drugs and Misty says she saw Joe put Haleigh in a black bag and she heard Haleigh scream.”

Joe Overstreet, who is Misty Croslin’s cousin from Tennesee allegedly came to the Mobile home with Misty’s brother Hank Croslin following a drug arrest in January, looking for an assault rifle.  When the assault rifle was not found, Overstreet allegedly covered Haleigh with a blanket and then removed her from the home in a black bag.

Misty Croslin claims to have heard Haleigh scream, and did nothing to stop the abduction.

Joe Overstreet was recently arrested on drug charges in Tennesee, although authorities do not believe that crime is related to Haleigh’s disappearance.

Today is Haleigh Cummings 7th birthday.

I feel that Misty pulled a Casey Anthony by overdosing Haleigh, because she was burned out from her partying….Haleigh probably left in a black bag,but not screaming. One if not both of Misty’s brothers took that baby to the St John river and dumped her. Highly unlikely that any remains will be ever found due the LARGE alligators that are in that river….Happy Birthday Haleigh your are in the arms of an Angel.

Mermaid14- I am hoping you have some links to back up your statements as I have been reading on this case since day one and it has been confirmed that Ron Cummings was at work at that neighbors to him have confirmed that they saw the kids outside playing in the evening incuding Haleigh. I also do know that if Rons cell phone pinged from the house when his timecard said he was at work, he would have been arrested at that time. Now I feel totally different towards Misty, Tommy, Timmy and Joe as they were all there at the trailer that night and none of them has a reliable alibi only he said, she said and even timmys wife said she got up in the middle of the night and Joe wasnt there and the van was missing so please tell me what you know for sure as we have hashed all of this out in the first couple of weeks…

Didn’t Haleigh’s brother say he saw someone all in black?
Maybe what he saw was someone carrying Haleigh in a black bag.

Okay — can someone explain to me why people are just allowed to breed willy-nilly? Seriously? In a world were overpopulation and over-consumption of resources is a dire threat to humanity’s survival as a species, WHY is it that any unprepared, irresponsible, immature and financially unstable woman who can get knocked up is free to spawn?

I just Do. Not. Get. It. Seriously. I need a license to own a dog. I need a license to drive a car. I need a license to practice the profession of wielding scissors to cut someone’s hair, and probably need to pass some sort of test to become a dog groomer. But if I want to pop out a kid or two because I’m to ignorant & short-sighted, that’s somehow okay?

I don’t get it. And I don’t get why it’s absolutely TABOO to suggest human reproduction be somehow limited to mature adults who have the emotional and financial stability to actually raise a kid in a safe and stable environment.

Our social priorities are absolutely ridiculous. I wish we’d get our heads out of our collective butts and just start making birth control patches and vasectomies standard issue upon puberty. Being a parent should be a responsibility and a privilege reserved by the deserving, a privilege that is is EARNED, instead of seeing so many throw-away children brought into this over-crowded world.

I’d far rather see my tax dollars go toward providing abortions for women who should NOT be mothers, than continue to see children abused, abandoned and neglected like this.

While watching JVM tonight, someone named “Maura” called in and asked an excellent question about Haleigh’s little brother. She asked JVM if he ever mentioned the “screaming” that he would have heard if Haleigh was carrying-on screaming for 5 minutes? JVM stated it was an excellent question and referred to her panel. Not much time spent on the question, but I wondered if it was our “Maura”. Yes, she would have asked such a question, because she probably went back in her notes and discovered that little brother never mentioned screaming when he was interviewed shortly after Haleigh’s disappearance. Of course he was only 3 yrs. old at the time, but he did say that the couch was squeaking, and that there was a man in a black hoodie sweatshirt that he saw in the house. I believe screaming would have been a detail he would have mentioned “IF” it happened the way Misty stated it happened.

Would not surprise me, our Maura is brilliant. That said, Misty can say what she wants, I do NOT believe she heard a scream.

Dear Browncoat Whit, I agree with your sentiment that some people just shouldn’t have children, but unfortunately, it is hard to draw that line and still have a reasonably free society. Some pretty scary novels have been written along that theme. I don’t want to have a debate here, but the essential problem goes to who makes the decision as to whether someone meets the qualifications to have a child.

  13. Browncoat Whit says:

Lizzy — yeah, I get that. There’s a whole host of probable concerns that only starts with who determines the eligibility criteria. Just look at the questions about the biases within SAT testing, for starters…

But still… it just seems absolutely asinine to me that here we are, in a world that’s increasingly overpopulated, and our society can’t even begin to consider ways to address the problem. Too many people are having kids when they shouldn’t. That’s not a judgment call. That’s fact. Yet… how can you even raise the question without coming across as a Glen Back wannabe?

    Hella depressing.

I just know too many people who’ve had children who shouldn’t have. And to many folks who’ve had children for reasons other than the desire to be a responsible parent.

Ive followed this story since the beginning only through Nancy Grace. This is the first time Ive read this thread regarding the case. Im surprised to see the difference in opinion regarding Ronald Cummings. Nancy (from what I remember) has a soft spot for Ron and was vocally hesitantt at best when Ronald was arrested and as any of her guests even remotely suggested he knew more than he was saying. It has always been suggested that he married Misty in order to “keep your friends close but your enemies closer”. I had no idea that it hasnt been confirmed by his employer that he was at work. If this is true and it is proven that he “called misty 90 times that night” and that

IMO- Misty likely drugged Haleigh to keep her quiet, to sleep while she left the house, or to not fight “abuse” by SO

Skanks are skanks but big brothers often come to resue little sisters when they screw up…if Misty wasnt wasnt the major reason Haleigh went missing….she wouldve already ratted out either of the guys. Period. she’s a narcisist (i cant spell it) and would sell anyone out to save her butt. But she cant because- SHE DID IT. They guys were at least involved by disposing or transporting little Haleigh that night…they’re in it up to their ears too. They cant rat out Misty for the biggest act bc they’d screw themselves.

Misty did it. she was the instigator. If she wasnt- she wouldve sold em out already.

I wish we could start giving ppl truth syrum

Happy Bday Haleigh. Im sorry for the scum surrounding you. It makes me so sad. Im so sorry Haleigh.

  15. Bees Knees says:

Yeah, as much sense as your opinion makes, Browncoat Whit, we’d be crossing some very weird line in doing that. But there are many, many people who should never even take care of a child, let alone raise one, and I’ve always wondered, too, why we study, take classes and get permits for everything else in life. It is crazy-making!

I would support mandatory classes on parenthood, which would be easier to sell than approval or permission to even get pregnant in the first place. With so many children being abused and paying with their lives, there’s no doubt that society will move in that direction. In the meantime, education can’t hurt. Somehow.

It’s a huge and complicated issue that desperately needs some attention. I get the feeling that children are not important to the “powers that be” because they aren’t of voting age so no one really worries about whether they are alive or not. I now that’s very cynical but I think that’s at least part of the problem.

I don’t find any of this news a “BOMBSHELL”! Misty has spewed these lies before, except for her addition of the black bag. I guess she’s reiterating (and adding a little extra)in hopes of a reduced sentence. Unless she, or any of these lowlifes, can come up with something that can be proven, how can any of them be believed?
    Happy Birthday, dear Haleigh.

LOL I can tell where you read believe it or not…hehe

Nancy Grace is way off with these cases USUALLY (not being mean)
She usually gets her info from non reliable sources and way later than we do here.
I think I can feel confident about answering a question for you about Ron. He is only 5ft. 10 inches tall and about 150 pounds and I HIGHLY DOUBT the whole town is afraid of him.
If Ron was not at work that night and if his cell phone pings said he wasn’t where he told police he was, (at work) he would have been arrested. A lot of people are saying that the police are lying as they are afraid of Ron and his rap sheet is full of drug charges but that doesn’t mean he is capable of murdering his daughter while he was at work etc. There are a lot of rumors floating around and I can suggest that you read all the threads here on Blinks site and get a different perspective without all the name calling and fighting (this case has been really hard for all of of us) There has been a lot of accusations flying around about what happened to Haleigh and in my opinion it is simply, either Misty did it accidently and her brothers helped cover it up or Timmy, Tommy or Joe did something and Misty was sleeping and really doesn’t know? it isnt that complicated, they just cant find a body and these people all lie so much. I think it will take one arrest for murder and they will all sing like canaries.

  18. MsEnscene says:

And Blink, I understand why they are not admissable. What I think is interesting is how the “people” connected to this case seem to throw around how they passed, and so-and-so didn’t. Gma Hollara seems to be the oracle of Tennesee with JVM and Nancy Grace kneeling at her feet. Ron said he passed with flying colors and added “so did Misty”.

    Well, ’nuff said.

  19. MsEnscene says:

It’s old news that Misty accused Joe. The black bag stuff might be new, but not that Jo did it. According to Misty Jo did it because he was wanting to steal Ron’s gun which wasn’t there in the MH so he took Haleigh instead.

This is Misty’s lawyer, Fields, simply reminding the media it’s what Misty said a while back. By the end of April, she even changed this story to one where she says she may have dreamed up Jo as perp. She even changed it a bit to something like “Maybe friends in here (jail)gave me the idea.”

Was it a dream or did someone put it in her head? Who cares? She cannot tell the truth. I don’t think she knows what all the truth is.

Fields is bringing this up so now that the media will report when Misty comes up for sentencing that Fields said she helped LE. She didn’t. Maybe by omission, but we’ll probably never know because LE won’t reveal anything. Maybe due to a, let’s say, rather shoddy initial investigation?

If Misty was under the covers with Jr. hiding while Jo did the dirty deed, why was she out hanging up “Haleigh is missing” posters with that very same Jo the next day. Doesn’t make sense.

Why, when Ron “divorced” her, did Misty go to Tennessee and hang with Jo while she was there? Not too afraid of him, I guess, even after his heinous deeds. Does not make sense.

What does make sense is Misty on the Today show during her honeymoon trip answering the hosts question of “Why do your stories change?”

Misty looked perplexed and couldn’t answer. She looked pitifully at Ron who gave her the ice-cold shoulder looking anywhere but at Misty. After being deserted by Ron in her quest for an answer of why her stories kept changing, Misty with a sigh of resignation said,”I don’t know.”

Ron has all the answers…and so does his mother and his grandmother. Misty…she may have a part of the story, but she just wasn’t given a thorough enough script to follow all those pesky unanswered questions. IMO.

Do I think that Misty was an innocent, scared bystander? NO

Do I think that Misty played a DIRECT hand in what happened to Haleigh? YES

Do I think we will ever know the whole truth? Sadly, NO

  22. Camsmom says:

Is it possible, that Joe was there that night, and has been truthful with the police, and told them what really happened? Say he went with Timmy, or Tommy after the fact (after Haleigh overdosed, and died.) while they helped Misty dispose of Haliegh’s body??? There is a website I read called Statement analysis, by Peter Hyatt, and he analysed his statements, and he believes that Joe was there, and has been truthful with the police about what happened that night. Now they could have granted him immunity for telling what he knows, couldnt they? So maybe they have the summary of what happened that night, and now are just collecting the evidence to back it up.
BTW if anyone would like Peter Hyatt’s website it is very intersting, he covers most cases that we love to discuss. Caylee, Haleigh, Kyron, ECT. Here is the site.

I really believe that Misty is so uneducated that she doesn’t realize nor has she been told that if she was to make a deal with the prosecution and tell the verifiable truth she may be able to go home soon or do just a wee bit of time. That is, if she is not the direct cause of HaLeigh’s death. I really think no person on this earth has explained it to her to where she could understand. You guys gotta understand something…to her Ron was a dream! A real catch by her standards, money that she’s never had, access to all drugs, a permanent home(theirs or GG Sykes)and a car or two. If she’s protecting him it’s gonna be too late to help herself soon. Everyone else will be sentenced before Ronny boy will and he will get the lightest time of all. He knows how to get out of this mess. Look at his record…no time done for any offenses. Blink, why don’t you make a secret trip and see if you can help this dumb girl out. See if she knows something that could help HaLeigh and herself out. I know you could get it out of her!!! Puhllllleeeeeeeezzzzzee??!!

  25. MsEnscene says:

Until I get a firm answer on Ron’s work hours, I will name him as #1 suspect. Even Ron on tape told Cobra that LE questioned him on the time it took him to get home from work that night. Ron said he answered LE with the witty retort “Because I drive like a cracker.” Ron is a card.

They have to know when Ron said he got off work. And that time, evidently, from Ron’s own mouth suggests they were not satisfied with his work hours and where he was after he got off work.

As LE said “We don’t know WHEN what happened to Haleigh happened.”

That sounds as if they are saying something besides “Ron has a perfect alibi. He was at work”. Sounds like they are saying his alibi doesn’t hold up because the time isn’t quite right. Plus they don’t know when Haleigh went missing.

I think Hayley died by accident, maybe in that MH, or even at some other house belonging to this lying cast of characters BEFORE Ron left for work. Whenever that was. Times change for that.

His momma and grammy took over from there. How Misty fits into the picture is a mystery.

At first the Cummings family supported her with “She’s so mature. The kids just love her. She’s the best!” and then they tunneled under her stories and left her hanging by shreds in the breeze.

“That’s all I know” is Misty’s mantra, and she may be covering for Ron, the Cummings or perhaps favorite brother Timmy as well. He got the hell out of Dodge.

Maybe Misty was there all afternoon and all night, but where are the witnesses to that? What did the AC guy say? Did he see Misty and Haleigh and JR.? We don’t know.

Why didn’t Annette Sykes and Misty herself put great granny’s visitation with laundry right out there, right away?

That important and convenient story placing Misty at the MH at 7:00 with Haleigh and Jr. only came out when LE asked for info from the public about Misty whereabouts that night.

Gee, for some reason LE didn’t believe that Misty was even there. And at seven…conveniently a long time after Ron was safely at work.

I think Ron, his mom and grandmother knew that LE would not consider what happened to Haleigh an accident and that’s why she was “kidnapped”.

It is likely Haleigh’s death, the manner of her death, although an accident could not be explained away. Her death would have led to an investigation with more questions concerning Ron’s drug use and custody of the kids.

Maybe even questions about missing drug dealers, or drug robberies gone wrong, or illegal guns being sold to druggies might have been uncovered in any investigation into Haleigh’s “accident”. Strange things might come out in the Haleigh wash.

Because Misty makes the perfect patsy.. Just look & listen to her she fits the ‘patsy’ part perfectly as if she was type cast for the part.. Every time Misty opens her mouth she’s in dizzy city & speaks with the mindset of a child.. Actually its terribly sad to listen to her because she believes what she says & at times appears clueless.. Except of course when it comes to drugs then she speaks with clarity & even knows how to keep track of the money.. However I still wonder how she was promoted in grade school..

There most definitely is a way to reduce unwanted pregnancies without intruding on people’s rights to pro-create: Make birth control a default part of health care for both genders (need science to catch up here) just like immunizations. Most of us are immunized, but those of us who want to opt out, can. Same with birth control. If you want to opt out, you can. But you have to take an active step to opt out. Most of the same people who get pregnant by accident would not get around to opting out, as evidenced by their current inability to opt in. Change the default. Change lives.

New day, same story. And a dumb one at that. So they’d come to the MH looking for an assault rifle after getting out of jail. Obviously, they felt they had someone to fear or someone to “get,” right? Why else would you want an assault rifle.

Then upon not finding one, they take Haleigh instead. WTH were they going to do with her–threaten to make this third person babysit?!

The idea of taking a child as a “bargaining chip” seems pretty far-fetched given that Ron would probably kick their butts after it was all said and done.

And if Joe did suddenly change course and take Haleigh after not finding the gun, wouldn’t Tommy have probably protested since this was a whole new can of worms than he signed up for? Plus, the little I’ve read about his wife makes me think she would not have been amused.

AND, if Misty was so dazzled by Ron then wouldn’t she have at least tried to stop them? B/c she has to know she’ll be in big trouble when Ron .

I hear crackheads don’t need much sleep either so that could also be the solution to the rampant tiredness you feel those first couple years of parenting. Of course there is that mild side effect of having your soul rot along with your teeth.

Rest in peace, little Haleigh-bear, far, far away from the crack-demons.

Why do people assume that Ron calling Misty numerous times that night (20, 90–whatever) makes him guilty?

His gf had just come home from a 3 day drug bender, which I’m sure caused a big fight, and she said she didn’t want to watch the kids–that she was tired or whatever.

He calls to make sure she’s doing what he said. She doesn’t answer. He doesn’t know if she’s gone into the bedroom and passed, leaving the kids to fend for themselves, or if she’s just ignoring him–which makes him totally ballistic. So he hits redial over and over hoping to either wake her up or annoy her enough that she picks up.

The suggestion that these calls mean something happened before he went to work just doesn’t make sense. Why wouldn’t she have picked up then? They would have been “in this together” at that point and she would have definitely wanted to talk to him.

I’ve been following this case since day one but it’s been a while since I’ve gone over the details, but I believe all the calls were in a close together time frame.

If something had happened before he left, wouldn’t they have been spaced out through the night–discussing what to do and what was going on? And again, she would have answered them.

And wouldn’t he have made sure she called police while he was at work? I believe the first call was made after he got home.

At one point during the call, he seems to turn around and scream at Misty, “What did you do with my child you bitch?!” (Apologies for the bad word, just trying to quote it the way I remember it!) If they’d both been there when something happened, he wouldn’t have thrown her under the bus like that.

Given his prior arrests for drugs, perhaps the time he left for work changes because he stopped to conduct some illegal business along the way to work. After giving the real time, he may have realized he didn’t really want to explain why it took so long to get there.

And duh, he married her because he wanted to know what actually happened. All along he’s said he wanted to find the people who took her before the police did. She was probably skittish as heck and the thought that she could run off to one of her relatives and the truth would be gone with her had to be driving him nuts.

So he thought acting like he believed in her and that she was safe with him–counting on her to think he couldn’t testify against her (although he could, given the circumstances)–would get her to spill the beans so he could get his revenge. Didn’t work.

Did he make some incredibly bad choices that put his kids in danger? Yes. And if he was involved, then lock him up and throw away the key. I’m just saying that what some people are touting as “evidence” he was involved seems like a crock of hooey to me.

Bees Knees & Others – My husband is a high school teacher and he is still shocked at some of the things he overhears. He always asks ever child what are they wanting to do in life and to aim for college! A lot of kids do not even know or understand the aid that is out there for them. But, he hears all the time that these girls just want to have as many babies with as many boys they can! The latest was a girl was talking to another in the lunch room and was complaining that her mother wanted her to have another child out of wedlock because she wanted more state and federal assistance for the household! Maybe if we were not picking up the bill for all these babies they would stop! We only had as many children as we could afford! Working people pay almost half of a years salary just to support the other people who will not support them selves! I am sick of this crap! We would have loved to have more children, but we were responsible in our planning. Of course most of the girls in high school and some jr high school never go back to school after they start having children! It is very sad that their lives are already set before they even become adults!
