Tiffany Hartley emerged on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 yesterday after her 16th hour of interviews at the Mexican Consulate in McAllen, Texas.

Hartley recounted the events of September 30, ending with the alleged murder of her husband David. Ms. Hartley gave both new testimony and confirmed her previous statements according to reports from the Mexican Attorney General and Ms. Hartley herself, without the presence of an attorney.

According to several statements from Hartley, David was shot “off his jet ski” while the couple was returning from the Mexican side of Falcon Lake, where they briefly took pictures of the historic church on Old Guerrerro. Neither David Hartley nor his Sea Doo watercraft have been recovered.

One of the most baffling aspect of the case, is the fact that Ms. Hartley claims the pair were shot at at as they were driving their jet skis away from alleged “pirates” they both waved a friendly hello to, seconds before.  Tiffany Hartley was uninjured in the attack, and her jet ski was not hit in the gunfire. Although media was alerted last week that tests on a possible blood source on Tiffany’s life vest were due back that afternoon, we were quickly told there would be no updates about the possible blood evidence at this time.

This afternoon, blinkoncrime Editor spoke with Chuck Smith, owner Smith Marina USA about specifics of the Sea Doo RXT.

..Your correct, the RXT has a chip in the starter that is electronically programmed to “match” the owners lanyard key. If he was wearing the lanyard, whether attached to his vest, or in some cases the arm, and he was thrown off the ski, it activates a kill switch and will not start without the key it is programmed to without a factory reprogramming, which of course, one would need the paperwork for. In short, no matter what, they would need his key to start it.

Blink Question: What if he was not attached to the key, and he was shot and flew off the unit “in motion”, this would not shut the engine off, correct?

CS: Correct. The ski would continue in the direction the handlebars were pointing and continue to throttle in that direction.

Blink: How hard are these models to sink?

CS: Virtually impossible. I have never actually heard of, or seen one, sink to the bottom. The way the Coast Guard standards are now with these, they have hulls similar to boats.

Blink: Could enough bullet holes sink it? What about if the contiuum– could that have caused it to flip? Could anyone right it?

CS: No, not unless we are talking morter rounds. I guess in theory an automatic weapon could put enough holes cut it in half if that was the goal, but again, your still going to see shards of fiberglass all over the water, remnants similar to a boat accident or crash. Again, under these circumstances, I don’t see how he could flip it, but if it were, again, harder to see because the bottom is black, but any SAR or Coast Guard deployment knows what abnormalities to look for on the water surface. It would be next to impossible to “right it” in deep water. It would be more likely they would drag it to shallow water.

Blink: Is this chop-shoppable?

CS: Absolutely. There is some after factory devices, similar to lo jack, but the engine and parts are expensive and could easily be sold that way.

Blink: He was wearing a PFD I. In your opinion is that keeping him afloat until he is located if he was left in the water?

CS: Absolutely, unless it was removed, or he and the vest were removed from the water, he would be floating, yes.

As announced this morning on Dana Pretzer commentary, Blink, Editor In Chief of blinkoncrime.com will be discussing the Hartley case this evening live at 9PM EST on Scared Monkeys The Dana Pretzer Show.

    @Mom 3.0–
    Texas has not yet passed HB 164, although it has been introduced. Yet here in Houston we have one of the largest cancer treatment centers in the world, M.D. Anderson.
    Medical marijuana should be legal in every state. No cancer survivor should have to fear arrest for trying to curb the horrific side effects of chemotherapy.
    I am not however a proponent of legalizing marijuana. Mostly because of these moronic parents that I see sharing a toke with their toddlers.
    Texas is an enigma. This state is so different depending on where you are. We have an openly gay mayor in Houston, yet travel to east Texas and you can just feel the difference. Like that looney tunes Congressman who rants on and on about terrorist babies being born here.

  2. Mermaid14 says:

    I am beginning to think this may have been a pre-planned, staged incident for political gain. Amazing what happens in an election year. The crazies come out of the woodwork. And those two sheriffs both using the same word “sobbing” in describing something? Totally suspicious. Like they have a script they are going by.
    These two of course would have had to be paid for their “efforts”. And at what point does DH re-appear? I really do think there could have been a huge payoff for them to do this.
    I at first thought it was a life insurance scam. But TH has been in the media too much, soapboxing about border patrol too much, dissing the President, speaking too much of politics. If you are trying to pull off an insurance or murder for hire scam, you want to remain under the radar.
    I would just about imagine TH did not predict how much she would have to be “propped up” in front of and perform for the media. No wonder they are having to medicate her. Clearly, her anti-Obama and border control and pro-gun rants show more emotion than grief for her “dead” husband.
    Tea Party anyone???

    @Mermaid14: You are my neighbor (in a sense). I was just about to post the same thing about HB 164.

    Disclaimer: This is all IMHO. I love to agree to disagree.

    TH communication has always seemed “off” to me. She reminds me of college kids getting toked and talking about “idealistic social changes.” (Yeah, I know she doesn’t/never did drugs..I heard her on that LOUD AND CLEAR, but i have and I know it when I see it) But you get what I mean? I’m feeling snarky because this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY50dLc90jc) just really irks me. I’m sorry but she sounds uneducated, unversed, and she has a history of going off on nonsensical tangents which gives me an extreme headache. She now has a platform…cough..smokescreen… which doesn’t involve finding David’s alleged murderers.
    I really hope our voters don’t have to fend off another ill-equiped, extremely opinionated, intolerant, uber right-winged spokeswoman.

    I wonder how much Mr. Norhden is paying David and Tiffany for this whole fabricated murder plot? I feel very sorry for David’s mom in all this b/c she is just trying to do the right thing and stand by her daughter in-law, but as usual Tiffany spun the whole interview with Meridith yesterday again about political issues instead of David and showed absolutely no emotion while his mom could hardly keep from breaking down and answer the questions.

    In the past I have been put on all kinds of prescriptions for my cronic back problems and even though I took different anti depressents you just don’t act like TH does! I have also taken anti anxiety medicine and this makes you tired but does not make you act like TH. muscle relaxer’s, pain med’s etc.. I think the reason she shows absolutely no compassion for what happened to David is b/c he is just fine in Mexico!

    As far as TH’s pupils being enlarged while in light, I have never seen or heard of any legal medication that would do that other than amphetamines (crack, meth, and cocaine)

    Mermaid,

    You know what?

    She was not sobbing on the 911 call. Why is that?
    She was reliving the “moment” telling the operator, that David flew into the water after being ‘shot’. (Paraphasing)

    Thank-you for mentioning the sobbing, she has not sobbed, yet!

    I will stick to my guns: He was not shot,’cause, she can not keep the so-called shooting “story” straight.

    The “unvertified guy” will surface, he probably fled Texas,too. I am
    waiting to see if she flies to Cali. That just may be the meeing place.

    This is spectulation on my part. This “unvertified guy” is the person
    she was talking to for three weeks. IMO:)

  7. ChiaPet517 says:

    Since Tiffany and David lived near Falcon Lake on both the Mexico side and the U.S. side, is it that far-fetched for one to think they might have known Sheriff Gonzalez previous to David’s “death”? Is it that far-fetched for one to think that the Sheriff could be in on this with them? MOO NO. Even with a political agenda, it’s hard for me to believe that the Sheriff would just blindly believe and support everything Tiffany says…he must not be a very good LE if he believes everything everyone tells him and I bet they don’t solve too many crimes in his neck of the woods…still, I don’t see what he is getting out of this politically or otherwise. On the contrary, MOO it’s making him look as stupid as TH.

  8. S.H. says:

    Anderson Cooper – should take an opportunity to ask Tiffany Hartley
    what are her thoughts on the “death penalty” in Texas?

    Well, she rants a lot about other issues, I would like her thoughts,
    on the current death penalty. If someone committed a murdered in Texas, I am just throwing that out, I would find her opinion interesting.

    In looking for earlier interview footage, I came across this link. Things that stood out for me…or I pondered. Typing rapidly, so some statements may be stilted to save time. I apologize if someone has already covered this.

    * GS’s voice sounds youthful.
    * 911 operator questions ALMOST sounds rehearsed??
    * Sigi descripes pirate boats as commercial (several times) Hmmm!
    * Sigi states that Hartleys went 2-3 miles into Mx visit church. Hmmm!
    * Says apparently one lucky shot hit DH in ahead,..according to TH statement.
    * Sigi, “she kinda pleaded.”
    * Sigi, “WAY into the US, where she made it to safety. The INDEPENDENT witness did see boat chasing her into the US, WAY into the US, WAY into Zapata County.

    Previously I posted comments about how I was searching google maps and questioning the route she came in from. If he saw her coming frome the mouth of the river…into lake area…it doesn’t really match up with the coordinates of the lake map/border. Or maybe I need to research the transcripts again. I’ll get back on that.

    This just in from the Estes Park Trail Gazette:

    “On Saturday, Tancredo spoke to about 200 Tea Party and Loveland 9/12 activists at the Loveland Church of David and Tiffany Hartley. It was a dramatic setting for questions about illegal immigration and the corruption and violence that surround the drug trade. Tancredo stated that the war on the marijuana trade is lost and we must consider legalization.”

    Could this have been some kind of political stunt considering it happened so close to elections?

    ———————————————————————

    Former congressman and current gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo spoke at Tiffany’s church last week to tea partiers and members of the Loveland 9/12 Project. He is a conservative running on the American Constitution ticket…a political party that believes in restoring America to its roots which are based on God and biblical law. He believes in Arizona style immigration law and his anti-immigration rhetoric was so strong that he was not welcome in the Bush White House. A quote from him regarding immigrants in the Boston Globe, 7/12/05, “they’re coming here to kill you and you and me and my grandchildren.” He has also called for the impeachment of President Obama. Surprisingly, he supports legalization of marijuana in order to stop the cartels.

    According to the Loveland 9/12 website, http://www.Loveland912project.com, they support taking America back to its constitutional principles. They are activists who picket and demonstrate for the right wing causes they believe in at churches, gun shows and government buildings.

    If you take a trip to the websites of these people and organizations, you will think you are listening to Tiffany at one of her press conferences. I can’t shake the thought that this is a political stunt perhaps to help Tancredo’s election or just the advancement of tea party principles. What I can’t figure out is how they’re going to make David reappear.

When an individual errs we are supposed to have backstops for correction. Family, community, law enforcement, journalists(mainstream). Every single one of those has been a complete failure. Is this where you thought this was headed? Do you have any ideas?

  17. Mermaid14 says:

    @S.H., just like everything else controversial in Texas, the death penalty is used as a political football. I have mixed feelings about it. I really don’t believe it is a deterrent at all. If it were we wouldn’t still have all the horrific murders here and all over the country that occur daily.
    They ought to just be honest and say, we have the death penalty because we believe an eye for and eye and a life for a life. But you will never hear them say that.
    The movie Dead Man Walking also influenced me greatly. I do feel that we have executed and imprisoned many who were innocent of the crimes they were accused of.
    They say it is less expensive to keep the guilty in prison for life than to execute them. The lengthy legal appeals process is far more expensive than keeping them locked up.
    What I REALLY believe in is making them do the time for their crimes. This early release stuff is for the birds. I also abhor all the plea bargains and “deals” constantly being made. It makes a mockery of the law enforcement and judicial systems in this country.

    “If he saw her coming frome the mouth of the river…into lake area…”

    -the GS unidentified witness said in one interview that he saw her “coming out from around a little island” and a boat behind seemingly chasing her…
    *************************************

    S.H. Okay, I gotta ask. Are you playing word games each time you say, “unvertified” instead of “unverified?” If so, I missed the inside joke. What’s the scoop.

  22. crimesolver says:

    Okay per my checking maps against Sheriffs 10/04 interview, I think he was just exaggerating the details… but why? (More Mexico water than US water per borderline) Witness also said that he saw boat & jetski coming around the island thats right off the shoreline.

    And if TH was indeed fleeing for her life, coming from the mouth of the river into lake, she would have headed to the first possible shoreline with houses which would be the “Falcon Mesa area” ramp and not Siesta Shores ramp. (google Beacon St, Zapata, TX for closest group of homes.) Now I see inconsistencies in the witness story…houses on CLOSEST US Shore are set back multi yards from water. (Where they screaming their conversation?) Transcripts make it sound like GS was only a few feet from shoreline.

    http://archives.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1010/04/cnr.08.html
    I had just gotten in from work, and I was, like I said, watering the plants when I see this jet ski start coming towards me. I noticed the boat behind it turned around and left the area. And as that boat gets closer, I can see the lady in distress looking back over her shoulders, and she looked frantic, sobbing. And she asked me — the first words out of her mouth were like, “Can you speak English?”
    I went ahead right away and started dialing 911 as she got off the jet ski.

If it is within a day or several hours, there is a serious problem.

    Just a note on the facebook friend thing – if David had sent a friend request to someone before he fell off the edge of the earth or whatever it is he did, that person could accept the friend request later on and be added to David’s total # of friends. I fear TH won’t be arrested if this is a scam, because her profile is too large.

    Sorry all: I’ve had nothing to add because there really hasn’t been anything else brewing around here. Strangely, after the re-enactment, everything got REAL quiet— (as in strangely so). I could speculate why things are quiet—TH is gone, so they can actually investigate without media hounding them all the time; the re-enactment possibly showed something they’re still investigating…I just don’t know and speculation in this situation is just that—just speculation.

    I can say this—the case has not died. The Federal investigators are still down there doing what they do.

    @first time—OMG you’re kidding right? The political party would have picked someone more “intelligent”? Not to be snarky but that has never been a requirement especially in the political circles we are talking about. Have you seen the news? Have you seen some of these characters ranting and raving? Christine O’Donnell who didn’t know what the first amendment says? Sarah Palin who couldn’t name a single major newspaper or Supreme Court decision? Nah, TH actually looks intelligent compared to some of the ones they are running for major political offices.

    crimesolver, why do you feel so strongly about the Calif. thing? I am not following you on that.

    PackLeader5,

    Thank-you for the update.

    Good to know the Federal Investigators are doing their job.

    Those silly Pirates!

    The most recent reported pirate sighting had been Aug. 31, when boaters saw gunmen riding a small skiff with “Game Wardin” misspelled in duct tape on the side of the vessel. It appeared the pirates were trying to imitate state game warden boats they have seen patrolling the lake.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Those of us who live in Texas and have regularly enjoyed fishing Lake Falcon in the past but no longer do so, don’t find any of these incidents amusing, S.H. Those “silly pirates” are known to carry AK-47′s and AR-15′s.
    A man is missing and presumed dead by LE. A family is grieving. Pretty serious business, in my opinion.
    Prayers for the Hartley family.
    And whoever said that David’s company has not released any statements….
    That was me, and I stand to be corrected. I had never seen anything on the MSM…thanks
    ——-
    You’re welcome. I actually wasn’t setting out to correct you, I was searching for something else and read this and remembered someone said Calfrac hadn’t made any statements.
    The statements were kinda vague. I guess they felt they HAD to say SOMETHING, but it was just the general stuff any company would say when one of their employees was killed.
    It’d be interesting to hear what they could back-up or deny as far as David’s employment (his “jack-of-all-trades 4 jobs at a time” claim, whether they actually were transferring him or not and stuff like that).
