Susan Powell Husband Josh Powell Murders Kids Commits Suicide During Supervised Visitation
Joshua Powell, husband of missing and presumed deceased Utah woman Susan Powell, deliberately triggered
A case worker arrived with the children for the court ordered supervised visitation was blocked entry by Powell, and shortly thereafter the home exploded.
Josh’s Father Steven is awaiting trial for various perv charges and all over creepiness, and Josh was just denied custody of the children in favor of them staying with Susan’s parents, The Cox’s.
www.blinkoncrime.com wishes to extend our sincere condolences to The Cox and members of the Powell Family who are not perverted freaks or murderers.
It would seem I recall expressing my concern this was a definite concern early on. I wish to commend all that recognized this and did everything in their power to give these beautiful little cherubs their best chance.
These little guys see their Mother today, and I pray that there is comfort in that reality for those dealing with this loss today.

Authorities said the call could have been handled better, and that it was unfortunate for the dispatcher to leave the social worker with the impression no help was immediately on the way. The agency that runs the call center said it would review the matter and start a disciplinary investigation if necessary.

Unfortunate?!!
Disciplinary investigation IF necessary?!!
Guess will have to wait & see because … “They have to respond to emergency, life-threatening situations first.”
WTH?

“Elizabeth Griffin-Hall, the case worker who supervised the children’s visits with Josh Powell, and who made a frantic 911 call when she was locked out of his home Sunday, has chosen not to comment to media.”
But her HUSBAND IS speaking on her behalf [& some co-workers,too] …
Sooo, she made a call to her husband right after she called 911 …
JMO We need a complete cell phone dump of all her calls …. there’s that call/s to supervisor & now her husband …
Also, I saw on a live news station, a clip of her husband talking to media & he said “… last night she (his wife) slept pretty well …” [Have not been able to find the video link on line]
Just me, but it appears “the PR spin about the case worker has started” …..
——————————————————
The husband of the caseworker who called 911 … said the woman is still too shaken up to speak about the experience and is suffering from post-traumatic stress.
That man, Larry Benson, said his wife, Elizabeth Hall, called him right after she called 911 as she stood in horror watching the house with Powell and his two boys inside burn.
“She told me, ‘This is an emergency. Josh Powell blew up the house with the two boys in it,’” Benson said. “She said several times over and over, ‘They trusted me, they trusted me.’”
Benson said Hall is still struggling and even trembling at times. He agreed to speak to KIRO 7 on her behalf. Hall, a caseworker contracted by the Washington state Department of Health and Social Services, had supervised visits between Powell and his sons, Charlie and Bredan.
“She did not feel threatened at all by him,” Benson said.
But after what happened Sunday, he said that in his opinion, in cases similar to Powell’s, the state should reevaluate the use of home visitations.
“He had what, four days to prepare that home for what he was going to do?” Benson said. “If this was done in McDonalds or somewhere like that, it couldn’t happen.”
Benson showed KIRO 7 the Hot Wheels toys Hall had in her car on Sunday. He said she was going to give them to Charlie and Braden for their birthday.
Instead, Benson said, their deaths will haunt her forever. “She said several times, ‘I was the last one to see them alive,’” Benson said. “I suspect it will never go away.”
Benson said Hall has already been to a counselor and plans to continue to see one. He said she hopes to return to the work she loves, but right now, she’s just surviving day to day.

GRAHAM, Washington (ABC 4 News) – The husband of the social worker who witnessed the explosion at Josh Powell’s house said his wife is traumatized and called the incident a life changing event.
Elizabeth Griffin-Hall was the court ordered supervisor responsible for monitoring Powell’s visit with his sons. The boys ran into the home and Powell closed the door before Hall could get in Sunday afternoon.
Hall’s husband, Larry Benson, said she is not ready to talk publicly about the event. She dialed 911 before and during the explosion that took the lives of Powell and his sons.
“She is so traumatized and I think will be for many many days,” Benson said at his home. “All I can do is support her in this.”
Benson said his wife trembled when she explained what happened and has since had trouble sleeping. He said he listened to the 911 tapes where Hall expressed her fear to the operator that the boys were in danger. He feels she did the best she could throughout the situation.
“She did handle things just as she should have done it and there was nothing she could have done to prevent what was happening,” Benson added.

Authorities have launched an investigation into how dispatchers handled 911 calls from those seeking help before Josh Powell killed his sons and himself in his Washington home.
Critics have said it took too long for dispatchers to grasp the danger of the situation and alert police.
“We will investigate all aspects of this incident, and if there is a need to refine our processes, (as we do continually) we will do so,” said Tom Orr, director of the Law Enforcement Support Agency, which operates the 911 call center. ” If there is a need to investigate from a disciplinary perspective and assign individual responsibility, we will do that as well.”
The social worker’s husband said she was badly shaken up. “She`s very upset and traumatized. She has said that she thinks this is something that is going to be a life-changing event,” the husband told CNN affiliate KCPQ.
She called her supervisor and 911 using her cellphone, reaching the call center in Tacoma about 10 miles away from Powell’s house just outside Puyallup, authorities said.
Pierce County, the second largest in the state and home to about 800,000 people, has an enhanced 911 system that is designed to give police an approximate location of the cell phone caller. It wasn’t immediately clear if the call center used that feature to locate the social worker.
“We try to get it right every single time. With humans here sometimes, there are mistakes made. I can`t tell you whether that was the case here until the investigation is complete,” Orr told the affiliate.-CNN

The caseworker who brought Josh Powell’s children to his home … is “beyond devastated,” a coworker Lyn Okarski, told KIRO 7 on Monday and the woman is horrified at what happened.
Orkarski works at Foster Care Resource Network, which contracted with the state to supervise the visitations between Powell and his sons. Her co-worker brought the boys to meet with Powell on Sunday and watched as he took them inside and blew up the family’s home.
“She just keeps replaying in her head what happened, and she stops and she gets this look in her face, and there’s nothing we can do for her,” Orkarski said.
The Department of Social and Health Services said that with 10,000 kids in its care, it needs to hire contractors to handle visitations. The agency said Powell was allowed to have supervised visits at his home, as opposed to a neutral location, because he was not facing any criminal charges and had not made any threats to harm his children or himself.
“If we had concerns such as threats of harm or any hints of it, we could have held off on the visits,” DSHS spokeswoman Sherry Hill said.
The caseworker who was with the boys Sunday had been supervising their four-hour visits with Powell, which had been taking place two times a week since November. She said she had come to love the kids, and their loss was devastating for her and her co-workers.
“All of us that do this work every day – this is the worst thing we can imagine happening,” a worker at the Foster Care Network said
“We’re all devastated,” Orkarski said. “We’re having a hard time in here just functioning.”
DSHS officials told KIRO 7’s Richard Thompson that in addition to the law enforcement investigation of the double murder-suicide, the agency will conduct its own child fatality review to make sure all procedures for supervising the Powell children were followed.

was the dispatcher a contracted out business as well?
dilutes training, longevity on the job, & accountability
When I have called 911, the first question has always been something like “Are you or someone else in immediate danger?”
911 dispatcher answers with “Good morning.” Seriously?

Yes, CHANGE from the bottom rung up -or- from the top down.
(but) now were only getting conflicting statements from just about every one… (cya cya cya)
One thing that cannot be changed is the actual time & length of phone calls (cell or land line) to 911 … there will also be a cell record of ‘case wker’s’ cell phone calls to ANY one else …
I pray that LE/DA have search warrant/seized ALL cell/land line/ email records of EVERY person who recv’d ANY type of communication from POS.
IF we told down the road ‘some records were NOT retained & have been lost’[as we came to learn w/Kyron Horman case] … I actually will … well I would hope every person @BOC & SM will rise up one whole he77va of voice for starters …
Thanks for all you’re finding & posting.
Totally agree we are ‘hive mind’ …
All these investigations are in the wrong place….they need to investigate why those poor children were forced visitation at all considering the circumstances…and prevent it from happening again…put the blame where it belongs, then we wont have all this time wasted after the fact…That time and energy should be spent securing child safety initially. (not that it’s wasted now, but i mean for future same situations) Those children should never have had to be in the presence of that man to begin with. Had it been that judge’s child, rest assured, this wouldn’t have happened!
This is so sad, when saw it Monday morning on GMA I was stunned. I watch these cases play out, sometimes for years, and never realize how invested I become. I come to feel as if I know the people involved in these cases personally.
This did not have to happen. Yes I see fault in so many here. The court system, for allowing visitation. The detectives, for not arresting Powell for the disappearance of his wife. The social worker, for not even knowing the address she was at, and wanting to move her freaking car, because she smelled gas (heaven forbid something happen to her car!). The 911 operator, for being brash, and not taking the call as serious as he should. The police, for not responding quick enough. Yes there is alot of Blame to throw around.
However, it is also my personal opinion that once those boys walked into that house on Sunday, no one could have helped/saved them. This was planned and no matter how soon police had gotten there, no matter if the case worker could have gotten in…the boys had no hope as soon as they walked into the house. For heaven sakes he chopped them with a hatchet, prob as soon as they walked in the door!
They should not have been there, their father should have been in jail awaiting a trial. We have got to fix this system. We have got to protect our Children.
I feel so bad for Mr. Cox I have watched several of his interviews, and you can tell how much he struggles trying to keep it together, as is understandable. Such a good man. My prayers are with him and his family.

Agree change from the bottom rung up -or- top down … but now all we’re getting is conflicting PR spin …[cya cya cya]
I have no patience any more w/ the party line of “we will learn from any mistakes … we will implement new policy …blah blah blah” …
What does it take to ACCEPT there IS a HUGE PROBLEM??
These are CHILDREN … we [society as a whole] ARE the adults …
Have you found any comment/s from Charlie & Braden’s GAL??
———————————————————
FWIW after seeing the photo & video of ‘case wker’s husband’ I’m wondering what age she is. Listening to her voice on 911 from the start, she really thought “it was a mistake” when she was “locked out of the house” [almost as if the boys had run in locking the door behind them ... a game of sorts ...] JMO she talks as POS & her were “friends coming over to visit” NOT a “state contract worker IN CHARGE of 2 little boys having a supervised visit w/ a POI in wife’s disappearance.” She had access to way more info then the general population & she even says to 911 that “this high profile”.
JMO there is this disconnect w/her saying “this is high profile” & the way she actually was handling this case & her interactions w/POS.
JMO but 10mins+ of asking to be let in & hearing the boys crying [we all know they were screaming] but she’s sitting in her LOCKED car in the driveway!! WTH was THAT about?? She’s “protecting herself & her car” but the boys are left inside suffering ….
At this point we have only heard 911 calls of neighbors AFTER the house is consumed in fire. Makes me ask WHY wasn’t she creating a HUGE DISTURBANCE w/ her so called “knocking on the door – asking to be let in etc.” The house is in a small cul-de-sac, it does NOT take much for neighbors to hear even MINOR voices in play -or- conflict. As of now we have had NO reports of ANY neighbor reports that heard ANY THING PRIOR to the fire/explosion.
JMO she seems to be saying “it’s just a mistake that she was locked out” but as the 911 Qs continue [& even how disjointed the Qs are] she seems to “realize this could be life threating.”
JMO but w/this co-worker’s remark, “She just keeps replaying in her head what happened, and she stops and she gets this look in her face, and there’s nothing we can do for her”, appears ‘case wker’ is [finally] “understanding what exactly she did & did NOT do.”
JMO but I too agree Chuck & Judy need to file lawsuits. Yes, it does not bring the boys back but this might be the only way to preserve information/evidence to see exactly how the boys were failed & all who had a hand in it … and hopefully mandated changes w/accountability are part of a settlement. [maybe there could be clause/s IF such & such mandate etc is NOT followed/performed there would be big $$ penalties. $$ penalties could be the "gotcha" moment for ALL levels to finally perform their job, since LOSING ones budget $$s is these days of 'tight money' would be costly on many levels.] I know one can only dream…
… and ADD @ least 10+mins that was LOST BEFORE ANY call to 911.
Just think how THOSE 10+ EXTRA mins might of change the outcome …

“Could it have been handled better, sure,” says Sgt. Ed Troyer of the Pierce County sheriff’s office. “Did it delay the call, that’s what being investigated.”
But Troyer says while the dispatcher was talking with the social worker a seperate transmission went out to sheriff deputies. And he says that’s when the officer headed out.
“He got their quickly,” says Troyer.
How quick? According to LESA dispatch logs it took 8 minutes for the dispatcher to call the deputy.
And it was another 14 minutes for him to arrive.
Compare that to fire crews of the Graham Fire Department.
They were dispatched at 12:17 and arrived at 12:22 for a response time of 5 minutes
http://www.abc4.com/content/news/top_stories/story/Response-time-criticised-in-
By the 5th of 38 or more responses in that 911 call, the caseworker had said:
*the address
*supervised visitation
*short lease with DSHS and CPS
*”I need help right away”
*smell gasoline
So it seems that she did a lot better in the call than the 911 operator. Nevertheless, clearly those supervising visitation need to be taught and memorize what to say if 911 must be called. “I am a court-designated supervisor for CPS. Children are in immediate danger at ADDRESS. Dispatch police (and fire?) assistance at once.” Then proceed with identification, etc.
NOT: Hey, something weird happened.

So, we have heard/ been told that POS had supervised visitations 2x/wk @ his home. There seems to be a ‘question’ IF it was for 3hrs or 4hrs [12-NOON to 3pm or 4pm].
Q-when did ‘case wker’ PU the boys @ the Cox house?
Q-what is the mileage & travel time to POS home?
Q-what is the actual time ‘case wker’ & boys exit the car?
Q-what time do the boys ‘enter’ the home?
‘Case wker’ @ 12:08pm [& have seen 12:03pm] states on 1st 911 call the boys have been in the house @ least 10mins(!) JMO but it appears ‘case wker’ was @ the house BEFORE 12 NOON.
1st 911 call is approx 6:46mins in length.
We have NOT been given time & length of ‘case wker’ call to supervisor.
Q-How many calls, length, time & to whom did ‘case wker’ call once she PU the boys?
JMO there appears to be MORE time prior to the house being lit than we initial have been told.
I really want to see a FULL timeline starting from when the boys were picked up forward. I want to see ALL the call times & lengths of the ‘case wker’, the neighbors, POS’s employer and of course, POS’s sister.
I’ll keep asking until it is confirmed by DNA that the adult body was POS.
POS made sure ‘case wker’ visually SAW him. He did not just send/leave 1 suicide ‘note’, he left MANY to family [siblings, cousins etc], employer, attorney & also a verbal message/voice mssg to many of them, too.
It is not that ‘far out’ to question this as ‘being staged disappearance’. What a way to ‘start new’… there was more than ‘w/i moments’ betwn being ‘seen’ & the fire.

The Associated Press obtained the call logs Wednesday night under a public records request. Nearly eight minutes elapsed from the time the social worker made the first 911 call until deputies were dispatched, the AP reported, and it took another 14 minutes for the deputies to arrive.
The 911 call lasted nearly seven minutes. The logs show deputies were sent about a minute after the call ended.
According to the logs, the social worker called from her cellphone at 12:08 p.m. Five minutes later, the man who took her call transferred the information to a dispatcher, who alerted two deputies about 2 1/2 minutes later, at 12:16, the AP reported. They arrived at 12:30, when the house was engulfed in flames.
Earlier Wednesday, Pierce County Sheriff’s Det. Ed Troyer raised questions about how the first of two 911 calls was handled; the second was from the social worker to the fire department. “Our concern is the etiquette and lack of manners. It doesn’t have to be that way, right?” he said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
But he said the protracted call, handled by an independent call service center, did not delay dispatch of a patrol car, which arrived before the fire department did. Some of the confusion, he added, was due to the fact that the social worker at first did not know Powell’s street address.
The independent call center that handles 911 calls for Pierce County, the Law Enforcement Support Agency, issued a statement Wednesday night. Director Tom Orr offered condolences to the family and expressed shock at “the deliberate, heinous and evil actions of Josh Powell.”
“All of us at LESA take our citizens’ safety very seriously and we have begun a full investigation of how these calls were handled,” Orr said. “We know that seconds count and we are committed to providing the fastest response possible.”

The 911 outfit is an intergov’t agency that works with multiple police depts–kind of like an intergovt agency managing an airport or a toll road.. there are only 155 employees; can’t be that hard to train them & supervise spot check
http://www.lesa.net/pdfs/OrgChart_2011.pdf
As far as laws & judge, aren’t responsible. legal tools are there. judges order based on information given & recommendations of parties. up to the government prosecutor that achieved temp custody in tge State, using Court report if cpsd as basis, to advocate for more restrictive, or no, visitation. Utah stuff would have come in thru the prosecutor and/court report. if they din’t do their job, Court has nothing to go on.
imo all parties–visitation supv, cpsd, prosecutor & thus the judge were treating supervision NOT as though needed due to murder charges. none had been filed & imo Utah pd was irrelevant therefore. the cpsd’s only way to bring it in was via Court ordered psychologicals of boys. should have been ordered when they came into care. that wouldve gotten any drawing or comments of theirs into this case. that is where cpsd & prosecutor were remiss in their requests of this judge, who wouldve granted it
this case was based merely on suspicious drawing images found on computer of Josh’s which mightve been his or his Dad’s. That made home based supv OK uf she was present to prevent any sexual abuse. imo no party to case treated him on the temp custody thing as more than a random pornographer. that, imo, was Utah pd’s fault in failing to advise the Court of their investigation
blink, are you reporting on Yeardley trial?
I may, but as other casework permits.

Powell Threatened Mother with Knife, Court Documents Allege

KOMO/ABC News(GRAHAM, Wash.) — Josh Powell, the husband of a missing Utah woman who killed himself and his two young sons last week, was a disturbed adolescent who threatened and hit his mother, according to 1992 court documents obtained by ABC News.
The documents, filed in Washington State during the divorce of Josh Powell’s parents Steven and Terrica Powell, include several statements by Terrica Powell describing her son’s disturbing behavior.
Terrica Powell wrote that her son once tried to commit suicide and also threatened her with a butcher knife. On other occasions, he and one of his brothers pushed and hit her, she wrote.
The butcher knife incident, Terrica Powell wrote, was the result of her asking her son to do the dishes.
“I felt extreme fear when Josh made a veiled threat at me with a butcher knife in his hand. His demeanor was menacing for a moment as he said, ‘Don’t push it, mom,’” Powell wrote. “… I was terrified and left the room to go downstairs…”
Terrica Powell has declined an interview request with ABC News.
A lawyer for Chuck and Judy Cox, the parents of Powell’s missing wife, Susan Powell, echoed the allegations about the butcher knife and the suicide attempt. Lawyer Stephen Downing told 20/20 co-anchor Chris Cuomo that Josh Powell tried to kill himself by hanging.

Learn more about Josh Powell and Susan Powell on “Sins of the Father” on “20/20″ Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
Josh Powell’s sister had once suspected him of murdering his missing wife, but now – despite killing his two sons in a fiery explosion – she believes he had nothing to do with Susan Cox’s disappearance.
Alina Powell conceded to ABC News that she was suspicious of her brother when his wife vanished in 2009.
“I was. I had my doubts,” she said.
But in the following two years, those doubts had been erased.
“I scrutinized him pretty deeply. I watched him when he would talk, when he would interact with anyone else. I had my doubts,” Alina Powell said. But, she said, “I never, ever heard anything that was remotely suspicious in I don’t know how many months.”
She depicted her brother as a victim.
“I think this was the act of somebody who had been so damaged by the lack of due process, so harassed and abused and lied about that he just reached a point of feeling like there was no… I don’t know,” she said.
“I think he must have just felt that there was only one way left for him to protect his sons, from the pain, from all the emotional and physical pain they’ve been experiencing,” Alina Powell said.
“When I got there I just stopped in the middle of the road. I said it looks like his home exploded and it’s just practically gone,” she said. “I wake up and I feel like it didn’t really happen. It just takes a few minutes for it to sink in.”
While some have characterized the murder-suicide as an admission of guilt by Powell, Alina said she still believes her brother was innocent.
“I just miss them all so much. They were my boys. All three of them, they were my boys,” she said.

She seems to have restricted, flat, or blunted affect when she is talking … there seems to be an anger/rage that is very close to the surface … she is appears a hard 26y/o [only]??
The flat affect may be a symptom of mental illness, especially schizophrenia, something that is in their family history.
Not only have we been told of mental illness in their family but we have heard/read about the ‘abnormal sexual/perv issues w/her/their father”… what may have happen to her in that house all these years?? Many weight issues, to name just 1 thing, can be caused by sex abuse.
I have only seen rather short snips of her conversation w/ABC reporter that is being shown in starts ‘n stops clips on GMA this morning.
Riverpearl- outstanding observation, I can see why you are an asset in your field.
Not only is her affect off, if there was not an edit at one point, where the reporter says but he did not protect him he killed them, her facial expression and demeanor showed a flash of hostility to me.
What I am not understanding is that if she called 911 20 minutes before the fire, was anyone dispatched to the home at that time?
What is with people defending someone who is clearly disturbed, and as you can see by the minute, in need of some serious help for a long time. The Freak In Laws disdain for women is palpable, he passed it down, and she is clearly defending it. Josh Powell never a suspect in her sister in laws disappearance?
Who do these people think they are kidding in almost every syllable out of their mouths?

I am sick and tired of those who are supposed to protect and serve not doing what they are supposed to do. We, as advocates, must take action and demand that our courts follow the law – vote the judges out of office who are not performing. Protect our babies and those who seek justice from abusers, predators and such.
A teacher’s stalker murdered her in Canfield, Ohio yesterday after the judge game him 5 years probation, 500 hours of community service, and a $2,500 fine along with court ordered anger management classes, no firearms order, and an order of no contact with the victim in November. He shoots her multiple times while she is getting into her car at 7 a.m. on 2/8/12.

She knew she would never get justice, thats why she filed the civil suit, today is the one year anniversary of it.

We may actually see the chit starting to hit the fan …
Senator: Was DSHS warned about Powell boys’ welfare?
A state senator says police in Utah sent a “warning” to Washington state authorities about the welfare of Josh Powell’s two young sons several days before he killed them and himself in an inferno.
State Sen. Pam Roach, R-Auburn, says the information was sent to the state Department of Social and Health Services on Feb. 1, “at a time when something maybe could have been done to prevent what eventually did occur.”
But DSHS spokesman Tom Shapley says the agency shared all the information it received from Utah police at a hearing last week in Pierce County Superior Court, in which Josh Powell was denied custody of the boys.
Shapley says that information, in part, was why Pierce County Superior Court Judge Kathryn J. Nelson ruled that Josh Powell should undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation and polygraph test before regaining full custody of the boys.
Meanwhile, Roach says she has formally requested a copy of the information that was forwarded to DSHS.
“It appears DSHS was forewarned about information regarding Joshua Powell and the treatment of his boys,” said Roach. “DSHS needs to come clean with what they knew. Having information pertinent to the welfare of the Powell children, and not acting on it, may have actually contributed to their deaths.”
A statement released by the West Valley City, Utah, police on Feb. 1 said that detectives had “discovered information specifically related to their (Powell) children’s welfare,” but it did not say what the information was.
Roach said she questions why the two boys, Charles and Braden, were allowed to visit Josh Powell in his home.
“You know, it is very unusual for the department to have in-home visits,” she said. “Most of the time these visits are taking place at a local restaurant or a library, or in the summertime, at a park. So it seems to me that Josh Powell was being given special treatment in the first place.”
She says the public deserves to know what kind of information was sent to DSHS by the police in West Valley, Utah, which was conducting a homicide investigation into the 2009 disappearance of Susan Powell.
“What was it that was communicated from the police in Utah, having found something that alerted them to potential welfare issues around these children that was submitted to the state of Washington? I think the public deserves to know, and I think we need to see it, and then I think to evaluate if that information, if used, would have been able to protect the children.”
“The point is, there is information that we were sent, and I think the public deserves to look at what that information was, so that we can determine whether or not our state took the proper actions regarding these two young boys,” Roach said.

I am speechless again.
At what point did she hear screaming? While still on the phone with 911? Because she smelled gas while on the phone the first time.
Did she really wait ten minutes to call 911? Or 10 minutes in btw the two calls she made?
I don’t understand why she didn’t get neighbors for help either.
I honestly think Josh won her over to an extent and she couldn’t phathom him really hurting the boys.
“something weird just happened”
“I think they may be in danger”
She was startled & kinda weirded out but if she really thought he was would hurt them- I can’t imagine anyone saying GET SOMEONE THE F OVER HERE NOW. This guys been suspected Of murdering his wife! If anything happens to these boys during the time your wasting right now- its on you mf’er!!
Sorry, no sleep last night. I’m just so angry with this. Lack of sleep may render post that doesn’t make sense
I believe she used the term crying, and it was immediately after the door slam and her asking to be let in.

Yes,
“Not only is her affect off, if there was not an edit at one point, where the reporter says but he did not protect him he killed them, her facial expression and demeanor showed a flash of hostility to me.”
I caught myself recoiling w/that “flash”. I wasn’t sure if she could restrain herself. I actually said out loud how many people are w/the reporter if things go south….
What a mess of a family & to know the sweet babes Charlie & Braden lived in -that- all those months.
All I can say is that @ least these last 4-1/2 months Charlie & Braden had Susan’s parents & extended family. The boys were able to live their lifes like Susan wanted, though it was way too short.
Riverpearl- I watched the interview with the strange sis and I must say the apple does’nt fall far from the tree. Reminds me of Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” – what a dysfuntional family to say the least. Seems like Joshie was always treated special. Poor fellow my @ss! I wonder where the $ 7000.00 went? I will be relieved when they make a positive DNA match that he is actually deceased. You never know with this psycho.
Placing blame on others rather than taking responsibility or assigning responsibility where it belongs is indiciative of someone who is either suffering from a personality disorder or is under the influence of someone with a personality disorder. The Powell family has a long history of disordered behavior and blame making. Shalom, Sharai

Troyer out right lying! Patrol did NOT arrive before Fire.
Then we have the Director of LESA, (is he insane?) a “normal custodial interference” WTF She reported GASOLINE!

It was deemed a priority two call.
“The priority is determined by the call type. This was a custodial interference situation. In the normal custodial interference, this was not, obviously, we know that now,” said Tom Orr of LESA.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Michelle Millman talked with a retired couple who trained more than 100 dispatchers here in Pierce County.
Retired firefighter David Blauvelt said after the social worker told dispatch she smelled gas, the call should have been given top priority.
“I was very angry at that point, because that’s the indication that this is a serious matter. You send the world,” said Blauvelt.

Orr explained that in situations that are understood to be life-threatening emergencies, call takers have the ability to send information to dispatchers as they are typing, with a sort of instant-messaging function on their computers.
That way, he said, dispatchers don’t have to wait until call takers get off the phone to get the pertinent information to officers.
In the Powell case, Orr said, the call taker did not regard the situation as an emergency and did not forward the information until the call ended

If anyone around here can or will get to the bottom of this, it’s Pam Roach. She’s a “mouth” in a good way.
P.S. I have always known her to be accessible. She would be a good source, for anyone with creds who might be looking.
“It’s still not real to me,” Susan’s shattered sister Denise Cox told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview. “I’m in shock. Josh took my sister and then he took my nephews. It was a cowardly thing to do. He has caused so much pain to my family.
On Feb. 1, Josh lost a battle to regain custody of the boys from their grandparents. He was given visitation rights. But on Feb. 5, little Charlie resisted visiting Josh when a social worker came to take Braden and him for the scheduled visit.
“No! I don’t want to go see Daddy,” he told his grandparents.
Said the friend: “Charlie was upset. He made it plain he didn’t want to see his dad.”
http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/exclusive-interview-inside-powell-suicide-murders
To me Josh Powell’s face always looked weak, soft and fleshy, even though he was not fat. His sister looks the same way with a lot of fat to compound it. The father, by contrast, looks tightly coiled and aggressive…like a dog baring it’s teeth. I suspect that Josh and his siblings were subjected to abuse at the hands of their father and it developed a loyalty among them. Thus, his sister’s refusal to place blame on him. She suspected him at first so she knew he was capable of the crime but she couldn’t bear to place blame on a brother she saw as a victim. Someone should question her about what their lives were like with their father, Steven.
Regarding the bashing of the social worker, I don’t think it’s warranted. She may have required better training in an emergency but she in no way was responsible for what happened and, I believe, is devastated by the event. The only people to blame for this tragedy are Josh Powell and the idiot judges and bureaucrats who allowed home visits with a murder suspect.
Why didn’t the case worker turn on her car alarm? honk her horn? yell, scream, run up and down the street calling for help? grap a branch and break a window? pound on the door? pound on the neighbor’s doors? why is she sitting in her car while those babies are being injured by their father?
Saying it was “outrageous” to grant Josh Powell visitation with his sons, a state senator wants to see what West Valley City police shared with the Washington agency in charge of child welfare here.
“This material should be made public,” said Sen. Pam Roach, a Republican whose district includes part of the county where Powell murdered his children Sunday and died with them in a gasoline-fueled blaze set at his home. “I want to see it all.”
Roach this week sent a public records request to the Department of Social and Health Services asking for the materials West Valley City police sent the agency before the supervised Sunday visit.
An attorney representing the state at a Feb. 1 custody hearing in Pierce County Superior Court characterized that information as explicit images gleaned from a computer during a 2009 police search of the Powell home in Utah.
DSHS spokesperson Sherry Hill said Thursday a child welfare worker was allowed to review the images, and Pierce County also shared them with a psychologist who then recommended Powell undergo a psychosexual examination and polygraph test. A judge overseeing the custody case ordered the examinations following the Feb. 1 hearing.
Without the psychologist’s recommendation, the department
***”likely” would have started on a plan to transition the children home to Josh Powell***,
Hill said. Thomas Shapley, another department spokesperson, added that the images were the only materials West Valley City police shared from the Powell home they thought were concerning.
“At no time did our department get any bulletins, briefings, red flags, warnings — anything like that — warning of the boys’ safety,” he said. The agency is already planning its own internal review of how the deaths occurred.
While she waits for the agency to process her request, Roach is convinced mistakes were made in Washington. DSHS and the judge overseeing the custody case were
***working toward returning the children to Powell, Roach said, despite concerns the boys had been exposed to pornography.***
Powell and his sons had been living in his father’s home before the arrest, but Powell had denied knowing anything about his father’s alleged activities. Roach doesn’t believe the denial.
“Just the judgment of Josh Powell allowing his children to be in a home where he knew his father was engaged in pornographic behavior was enough” to deny visitation, Roach said Thursday.
The suspicions that Powell murdered his wife, or at least the judgment he showed with his claim that he took his then 4- and 2-year-old sons camping in a snowstorm the night she disappeared in December of 2009, should have been factors for denying visits, too, Roach said.
“Whether this points to the judge [making mistakes], whether this points to DHS, we need to find out,” Roach said.
While DSHS is obligated to process her records request, it’s unclear how much weight Roach’s criticisms will carry in Washington. Her colleagues in the state legislature have censured her twice.

A statement from the Powell family says they have decided to delay memorial services for Josh Powell to allow the children to be memorialized and “give everyone a chance to deal with this devastating situation one step at a time.”
Decided to delay services? I don’t buy that excuse for a minute.

“Josh Powell Told Sons He Had ‘Surprise’ For Them, Social Worker”
Josh Powell told his sons he had a “big surprise” for them as they ran toward his home Sunday, just moments before he attacked them with a hatchet and then blew them up, social worker Elizabeth Griffin Hall told ABC News today.
“He caught my eye, his shoulders were slumped. He had a sheepish look,” Hall told “20/20″ in an exclusive interview. “He just shrugged his shoulders and slammed the door.”
Hall said she had been taking the boys, Charles, 7, and Braden, 5, on supervised visits to Powell’s house for three months. Hall said the children loved being with their father. “One of them said what he wanted to do was go home and live with his daddy,” she said.
And during visits with Powell, “I would see them light up.”
On Sunday, the children bounded out of her car and took off running for their father’s house
**with Hall a few steps behind. Powell let them in, gave Hall his odd look, and locked the door.**
As Hall banged on the door, “I heard him say, ‘Charlie, I’ve got a big surprise for you’… And then I heard Braden cry out.”
“I’m saying, ‘Let me in, Josh, let me in,’” Hall said. “I realized I didn’t have my phone in my hand and I could smell gas. Too much time had passed and I could smell gas.” Hall said she went to move her car and call 911, whom she said did not acknowledge that it was a true emergency. She called her supervisor, but it was too late.
“I said to [her boss] Lynne, something terrible is happening here, and I was on the phone with Lynne when the house exploded,” she said.
“I wanted to get to the kids,” she said. “I wanted to get to the kids. I would have broken in if I could.”
Hall told the story of what happened over and over again to authorities as they arrived and assured her she could not have done anything differently. She blames Powell fully for what happened, and said she never thought he would hurt the boys. But now, she said, she knows he would have done anything to kill them, even if they had the supervised visitation somewhere else.
“How this happened is that Josh Powell was really, really evil. I couldn’t have stopped him,” she said.
**”I did everything I was supposed to do. I did everything right and the boys are still dead,” **Hall said.
**”It took just a second.**
When I close my eyes I see him and he was so normal. He did not look like a monster.”
She has sweet memories of the boys.”I loved the boys.
**I was like a grandma to the boys.**
They crawled all over me,” she said with a laugh.
Braden, who was just 5, “was a free spirit” who “smiled all the time.” “He was always making things and giving them to me,” she said.
The older boy “was smart and funny. He loved bugs and frogs. He had a bird.” Charlie was looking forward to having his own frog pond when he moved back with his dad, she said.
“They are not going to grow up,” Hall said later. “They’re not ever going to look at bugs and frogs again.”
Hall said she loves working with children. “God called me to do this,” she said. “I am not going to be his victim. He’s not going to destroy my passion for children. He’s not going to stop me from working with children,” she said.
But the memory of Charlie and Braden will stay with her forever, Hall said. “The world lost two beautiful boys to a monster.”

When Ed Wadagnolo posted a job opening for his small software company last year, he received an application from an experienced programmer named Josh Powell.
“He told me his name,” Wadagnolo recalled Wednesday, “and he told us to look him up. ‘I am that Josh Powell.’ ”
Powell became the “No. 1 candidate,” Wadagnolo said, because of his technical abilities. When deciding on whether to offer him a position, Powell’s forthrightness about how he was under suspicion for the disappearance of his wife, Susan Cox Powell, worked in his favor.
“There’s a couple things you look for when you hire somebody,” Wadagnolo said. “Is he honest? On [the disappearance] he wasn’t just honest. He shared.”
“We made a decision,” Wadagnolo added, “that we believe in our justice system and he has not been charged with anything.”
Wadagnolo asked the name of the company, which he partly owns, not be published. He fears a backlash.
Wadagnolo said businesses will order software to their specifications and his small staff will design it. The software company is run out of a workplace here in suburban Seattle. Occasionally employees have to come to the workplace for a meeting or other business, but for the most part everyone works from home and makes their own hours, Wadagnolo said.
Powell visited the workplace less than 10 times in the year he worked for the business, Wadagnolo said. The first time, he was dressed in a suit and tie. After that, Wadagnolo said, Powell arrived in the standard business-casual attire of the other employees.
Wadagnolo said Wednesday he doesn’t think Powell had visited since November. Wadagnolo said Powell’s salary was in the range of $40,000 to the $60,000s.
When Wadagnolo and his staff need to talk to one another, the conversation is business focused. But most employees share a few personal details as they interact.
Wadagnolo said Powell’s personal discussions were limited to occasionally mentioning that he and his sons went to a park or had some other activity over the weekend.
When West Valley City police served a search warrant in September on the home of Steve Powell, Josh Powell’s father, one of the computers they seized was the work laptop Wadagnolo had issued to the younger Powell. Wadagnolo said Powell told him what happened and replaced the laptop with his own money. Police have never returned the computer, Wadagnolo said.
“He was a good worker,” Wadagnolo said. “He didn’t let personal issues affect his work.”

A much clear, detailed pic of Alina Powell.

Personally, I can’t read anymore details of this case. It’s far more evil and sinister than imagined.
Intention here is to help provide tools to prevent future Susans from making her mistake. Meaning, don’t let their horrific deaths be in vain. We’ve seen comments everywhere re the Powell posed family picture and others around the web re this unspeakable crime. Most people say they looked like “such a nice normal family”. Didn’t fool those who read stuff from photos, and most can learn to read them correctly too. As information slowly ekes out about the deep and long held, severe, violent issues by the severely dysfunctional Powell family – including schizophrenia being present – there are comments about why Susan got involved with that IMO “pack of rabid dogs”. By way of introducing a little known investigative technique (often downplayed out of “politically correctness”, yet more often quietly used *everywhere*) facial expressions and their relation to emotions, character, personality, behaviors and mental health is a science in its infancy (facial recognition e.g., in airports is only the starting place. But most of us humans have this skill down on an intuitive level, we have always had to for our own survival – and some have it more than others. This is a skill that can be trained, to thepoint where you can look at a picture, or a set of family pictures, or crime scene people photos and “decode” them. I say emphatically Yes. Could it lessen the chance of your children marrying a time-bomb? I think so. Check out this site for some very old science on the matter, and trust me, they’ve come a logn way since then is using thise tools deterministically. http://face-and-emotion.com/dataface/nsfrept/nsf_contents.html.
The flip side (yet totally related) to this is schizo’s do not have the ability to process facialexpressions in others. Schizo’s have massively damaged brain areas, easily determined by brain scans esp.in teens where schizo often first appears, as in JP’s case. A schizo can look at someone in horrific pain and laugh or be very angry at someone and still laugh (a disconnect clear in JP’s face in the photo). None of this undoes the horror. But we have to get better at detection. As always, my prayers for all those suffering, and I just hope the Feds start looking into incest more deeply in that family, I would be asking Wolver-Aline about what “they” term “Abrahamical Sacrifices” that went on in her family (a term used by them incest) and at what point did she being to be jealous of Susan.
More to the point, the section on that website that applies here is found under Benefits, then scrolldown to Medicine:
http://face-and-emotion.com/dataface/nsfrept/benefits.html
Medicine
Snip…” Faces and facial expression have relevance to medicine, neurology, and psychiatry, and a system to automate coding of facial expression would advance research in diverse domains.
Many disorders in medicine, particularly neurology and psychiatry, involve aberrations in expression, perception, or interpretation of facial action. Coding of facial action is thus necessary to assess the effect of the primary disorder, to better understand the disorder, and to devise strategies to overcome the limitations imposed by the disorder. In addition, because different disorders produce different effects on expression, examination of facial action skills (production and reception) may assist diagnosis.
In the psychiatric domain, the ability to produce or interpret facial expression is selectively affected by certain brain lesions or psychopathology. Schizophrenia and “psychosomatic” illness lead to blunting of expression, both in patients and in control subjects talking to these patients, who do not consciously know they are talking to mentally ill people (Krause et al., 1989; Steimer-Krause et al., 1990). Facial expression of emotion distinguishes depressed patients on admission to the hospital and after successful therapy (Ellgring, 1989), and various studies have examined expression with major affective illness (Ekman & Fridlund, 1987) and unipolar depression (Jaeger et al., 1986), as well as other psychopathology (Mandal & Palchoudhury, 1986). Automated methods for assessing facial responses and delivering stimuli would improve the research on and delivery of clinical services.”
And that was in 1992. This is 20 years later. Do we have to wait another 20 years for some more perfect future world, where SOCIAL CASE WORKERS WOULD BE TAUGHT THIS, AND DISPATCHERS WOULD BE TAUGHT THE AUDITORY EQUIVALENT OF THIS. AND GIVEN THE COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY CURRENTLY EXISTS TO HELP WITH ASSESSMENTS.
Would that we could make that happen and call that the COX PROTOCOL.
SP- excellent post.

Oh Blink. “Anti-gay church to protest Powell boys’ memorial service”
TACOMA, Wash. – A rabidly anti-gay church known for its loud protests is planning to picket Saturday’s funeral for the two sons of missing mom Susan Powell, who died in a raging house fire Sunday.
Margie Phelps of the Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church sent out a tweet saying the church will attend the boys’ memorial service as a protest against the pending legalization of gay marriage in Washington state.

This is only my second post ever…sorry it is over this…thought you would want to know. What is the world coming to?
I understand the need to evaluate processes and procedures but really dont think finger pointing at everyone involved is helpful. As far as I can see this is an unprecidented tragedy that noone was prepared for. Even the most awful goons dont do this type of thing. I can imagine being prepared as a case worker to follow certain procedures but faced with something like this to come completely undone and forget my name. Of course she thought it was a mistake – normal people dont do things like this – it must have been terribly hard to comprehend as it unfolded. I commend her for being able to talk at all – I would have been speechless.

Dee, I so agree. She may not have been equiped. Did she stand up and scream give me this job I am so qualified. Ridiculous. She was given a job. Blame comes from above. For God’s sake Washington had information about Josh dating back 20 years. It is a waste of time to blame the supervisor…she did not control this. The scrutny belongs on the court that put her in this position of danger. Putting blame on the supervisor will never stop this from happening again. It is so much bigger than an unfortunate supervisor, ill equiped, put in a postition to deal with a monster. JMO
~Police search landfill for Josh Powell paperwork~
“Officials searched a landfill Thursday near where Josh Powell lived for paperwork he may have dumped off there a day before the fire, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office told KIRO 7′s Kevin McCarty.
Investigators combed through a huge pile of paper in search of the documents, but didn’t find anything, police said. A team is expected to return to the site Sunday.
Police said a tip that was received after Powell triggered an explosion at his home Sunday that killed him and his two sons led them to the landfill.”
