In fact, implicit in Erikson’s assertion is a premise so faulty that his whole excuse evaporates: Erikson is not only saying that he caved due to threat of 4-year death penalty; he is also implicitly suggesting that the threat was time-sensitive, i.e, that Emmert announced to him:

“sign this Consent Decree or we are going to announce right now that PSU is “dead” for four years — and, no, you can’t even have 12 or 24 hours to consult with your own Board.”

Perhaps more to the point, if PSU hired Louis Freeh now to come in and make an “independent” review and report about just this set of discussions and negotiations between Erikson and the NCAA, Louis Freeh would stand at the podium and say out loud:

“PSU’s Rodney Erikson: a) showed an appalling disregard for widely accepted basic principles of corporate governance; and b) Rodney Erikson could not have read the Freeh Report of July 12.”

Mr. Vowler is a member of the Board of Directors for Bridgeford Trust Company. Mr. Vowler recently retired from Hershey Trust Company where he was the President, CEO, and Secretary for over twelve years. Prior to serving in this capacity, Mr. Vowler served as the Trust Company’s Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, and Secretary for over eight years. During his 20 year career with Hershey Trust, Mr. Vowler presided over an increase in assets under management from $2.6 billion to $8.3 billion, received a #1 rating by the Pennsylvania Department of Banking for eight consecutive years, and increased private client revenues fivefold

My guess is this is probably a scenario on Hershey’s  part where Hershey first forced out any minority shareholders by puchasing their shares cheaply while the banking industry was depressed,  before selling the assets at a premium.  That leaves longtime minority shareholders out of the value  on sale to the bigger fish.  Happens all the time in community banks.

    look at 2/21/11:

I’m here literally for one comment. You guys might want to look into Eric Henry. He was hired in Feb 2012 to manage Hershey School Trust. He’s a guy who seems to come in to handle a mess, an upcoming audit, etc. Stays a couple of years and moves on. Good credentials.

Interestingly, he’s been in PA before. Worked on the state retirement system. Did same down in Texas on their retirement system.

Didn’t keep my old notes, but here’s a link to start from:

    http://www.mhs-pa.org/newsroom/news-releases?Article=321

Yes, rose, Black Rock–Texas, oil money; Corbett, oil money.

Another topic: why did Tom Ridge appoint C. Baldwin as PSU Trustee back in 1995? A LOT of new appointments, job changes, back in 1995, if anyone remembers them all. Spanier brought in; IIRC, Curley and/or Schultz made some sort of changes. I still don’t know who was REALLY the driving force behind Spanier. A lot of it looks like people were put in place to upgrade PSU’s assets, as well as line some individual pockets.

I will bet $5 that there was some related child sex abuse linkage between TSM and Milton Hershey School.

And one other thing: where did all those “prominent” men go? The ones who were buying kids off naked photos from Ed Savitz at political fundraisers, and possibly at TSM fundraisers (per Greg Bucceroni)? After Savitz died in 1992(1993). We know that stuff went on in Nebraska, ending around 1989ish. We hear it now. I assume it’s not that rare, though personally I can’t imagine that scene.

Hershey School has fundraisers too. Where are the other “johns” who were involved in child prostitution? They’re somewhere. And in PA.
    That’s who I’m looking for.

    Hugs, all.

Beejay, I was looking at  Ridge’ history and 1995. Who were his associates on the way up?
deferring  to erose on Eric.  Ridge came to House Repr in Gingrich’s Contract America (94, swearing in, 95). Gingrich for goshsakes was originally from Harrisburg.  http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania%27s_21st_congressional_district#section_1 )

Then, Ridge’s former District got redistricted & eliminated.  http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Ridge
Note here, another Marcellus Shale pecuniary beneficiary.

Also: “In November 2007, Ridge was named to serve on The Hershey Company’s Executive Board. The Hershey Trust, the primary shareholder of Hershey, asked for a change in board composition after several years of poor stock performance. The board named Ridge to the board for his knowledge of economics.”

Didn’t know he was an economist….

The Trust (bank) wanted Hershey Board (the Trust beneficiary) composition changed due to tge bank’s stock performance, so Ridge was added.  Looks like the fox swallowed the henhouse.

The Charmed Life of Mrs. Bob Brady
How did former Eagles cheerleader Deb Brady—wife of all-powerful Bob—end up with a six-figure, taxpayer-supported job and seats on two of the city’s most powerful boards? It’s a neighborhood story, a success story, a political story and a love story all wrapped into one

In August, news broke about the scandal at the Philadelphia Housing Authority. Every day, it seemed, the papers uncovered yet another, more damning allegation against then-executive director Carl Greene — sexual harassment, misused taxpayer dollars, general megalomania. Columnists wondered: How didn’t the board know? How didn’t anyone know? And in every article, a name that had rarely been in the press was now getting lots of it — PHA board member Deb Brady.

On Carl Greene (sorry for all the wiki links, but they reference the articles used to compile the information).

Mr. Greene’s budgeted compensation for his work at the Philadelphia Housing Authority for 2010, at approximately $350,000/year, was more than the designated salaries of the Governor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the mayor of Philadelphia, combined.

On August 19, 2010, The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote [10]: “Charges of sexual misconduct have shadowed Greene since his arrival in Philadelphia in 1998 from the Detroit Housing Commission. In his former job, a housing-agency auditor accused Greene of kissing, touching, and fondling her, and promising her a promotion if she “submitted to his demands.” Rendell, who as mayor at the time headed PHA, hired Greene and gave him a contract that ensured his job even if he lost the Michigan case.

Just a thought regarding Erickson signing the consent decree. It’s not that he didn’t consult the BOTs at all. He consulted the “board leadership.” Whose problem is it that the “board leadership” is still functioning as if they have authority without input from the entire BOT? Erickson’s? Or the BOTs themselves? Who calls BOT meetings? Who sets the agenda?

I stumbled across this 1986 article about a Baptist Official who sexually assaulted young boys. The timeline corresponds with the activities of Savitz and presumably Sandusky, but I have not found any link, other than they all assaulted young boys in the ’70′s and ’80′s. The reason I posted it was this statement about Rockview:

“The judge recommended he be sent to the state correctional institution at Rockview, in western Pennsylvania, which has a program for sexual offenders,”

Is it true Ray Gricar at Rockview the day before he disappeared, as I have read? If so, was he there to talk with an inmate. Maybe someone that ran in the same circles (back when) of someone he was investigating in 2005. If the sexual offenders are housed there, it is possible he interviewed one of them. If his disappearance was nefarious, and related to a child sexual abuse investigation, then someone at the prison must have tipped off someone on the outside. Did anyone at Rockview “hang themselves” around that time?

All pure speculation on my part.

  24. erose says:

But one person has not held accountable–Tom Corbett. In both his role as Pennsylvania‘s Attorney General and as Governor, Corbett apparently had numerous opportunities to stop Sandusky that he didn’t take. I say apparently, because he refuses to answer questions about what he did or didn’t do. When a reporter has the audacity to raise questions, Corbett indignantly blusters and threateningly chastises the questioner.

That is probably why no one has called for an investigation into Corbett’s role–until now.

Since Corbett has not been forthcoming, Keystone Progress is requesting that PA Attorney General Linda Kelly, Senate President pro tem Joseph Scarnati and Speaker of the House Samuel Smith begin a formal investigation into Corbett’s role in the Sandusky scandal.

I’ve talked to four prosecutors and asked them when they would have arrested Sandusky. Each of them said they would have arrested him immediately after hearing the testimony of an eye witness.

Those bit players are the people Bucceroni claims were the witnesses at those political events and knew kids were being traded around like baseball cards. The legacy of George X Schwartz is tied up in Brady and Abarham (TSM), not to mention Coleman (wasn’t he the guy that psuhed for Arrow to take over TSM?) He lived at Rittenhouse Square, one of Savitz neighbors, I guess.

Death and legacy (from wiki I posted)

Schwartz died of complications from pneumonia at his home in Rittenhouse Square in March of 2010.[2]

His continuing political legacy was largely shaped by the careers he helped launch both by virtue his power, as well as his downfall. He is seen as instrumental in the success of both Abraham and Brady.[2][4] Additionally, it was his conviction and resignation from Council that allowed Joe Coleman to ascend to the Council Presidency, becoming the first African-American to hold the office. Coleman, who wanted to distance Council from the Abscam-related taint, sought to be a more conciliatory leader than Schwartz, leading some observers to describe Council as unruly, and prompting Mayor Bill Green, III (the son of Schwartz’s mentor) to call Council “the worst legislative body in the free world.” Coleman’s successor, John Street, sought to return more power to the office of President, and was seen as instrumental in helping get Ed Rendell’s legislative agenda enacted. Some observers therefore credit Schwartz with indirectly helping Rendell and Street by showing the virtues of a strong Council President.[4]

Yes, we were thinking along the same lines. Your comment about the so called time excuse regarding the NCAA sanctions is so pitiful as to be beyond belief. This guy overstepped his authority and when he was called on it, he tried to weasel word his reason for doing it.

Someone is going to have to prepare a chart of all the information that erose, rose and beejay along with others have uncovered. This is going to be more complex than the chart that Glen Beck’s people prepared for the Affordable Care Act.

This has been going on for at least forty years. There are all types of connections between the players participating in these crimes.

Earlier I suggested that both Rendell and Corbet had been compromised when they occupied the office of District Attorney. Now, people are taking steps to investigate these connections.

Someone needs to follow the money and political appointments. The real power of this crime syndicate should be uncovered in order to clean up the corruption.

I won’t speculate on why Abraham might want Faulner’s killer to remain behind bars, other than the obvious, or why Psycology Today ran Bucceroni’s story back in November, but apparently Faulkner would make an interesting interview today. sigh.

December 1981 Philadelphia Police Officer Danny Faulkner was murdered by MOVE member Mumia Abu Jamal, at that time I decided to contact Philadelphia City Officials via US Mail Philadelphia Mayor Bill Green, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Morton Solomon and Philadelphia District Attorney Ed Rendell in notifying them of Police Officer Danny Faulkner’s association with the NYC’s Gambino crime family’s Philadelphia based adult porn establishments criminal enterprise in addition to Officer Danny Faulkner’s numerous violent civil rights violations against numerous Black Philadelphia residents in the Center City area, included in those U.S. mailed letters to city officials was my initial 1980 complaint regarding pedophile Ed Savitz and my adolescent victimization and the non official action of city officials regarding the follow up of my criminal allegations regarding pedophile Ed Savitz,

***it was also mentioned that murdered Philadelphia Police Officer Danny Faulkner had professional full knowledge of the pedophile complaints involving Ed Savitz and Officer Faulkner took no official action in investigating nor reporting to the police command structure of the alleged pedophile complaints made to police officer Danny Faulkner by at-risk adolescent male youth while police officer Danny Faulkner was on duty in uniform while assigned to the 6th Police District.***

Afterwards in the initial aftermath of the Mumia-Faulkner incident and the circus that followed I was blackballed and dubbed a Mumia supporter (for which I am not) and radical by many city and police officials not taken seriously with regards to my complaints against pedophile Ed Savitz or my complaints against police officer Danny Faulkner. In the early 1990′s after Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham publicly criminally charged pedophile Ed Savitz with numerous sexual crimes against adolescent victims I morally supported Abraham’s official efforts for justice but quietly kept my 1980 and 1981 complaints off official records, fearful that it would effect my reputation and new life as a community leader, husband and father to my children in addition to the possible humiliation it could case my reputation at my employment so I quietly supported Lynne Abraham and followed the news articles knowing that finally justice was going to be mine in criminal court and with the pedophile offender Ed Savitz dying of AIDS.

Faulkner’s widow, Maureen Faulkner, moved to California. In 1994, upon discovering that National Public Radio planned to broadcast a series of commentaries taped by Abu-Jamal from death row, she began a campaign of her own to counter the “Free Mumia” movement. Since then, she has made numerous public appearances in support of upholding Abu-Jamal’s conviction and death sentence.[4] In 1999, she visited The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington during its commencement ceremony to protest the selection of Abu-Jamal as one of five commencement speakers. Since he was a death row inmate at the time and therefore unable to attend, the graduates listened to a 13 minute audio recording of his address. On December 9, 2001, she returned to Philadelphia to attend a ceremony honoring Daniel Faulkner on the 20th anniversary of his murder. Five years later, on December 8, 2006, she returned there once again, where she made public comments in which she criticized and characterized Abu-Jamal’s supporters as ignorant “know-nothings” and praised District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham for steadfastly defending against Abu-Jamal’s many appeals to have his conviction overturned.

@rose: I’m not literally following Ganim. I have always, however, followed the methodology she discussed in that article I linked. Which is, “real” investigative journalism is done face to face. Boots on the ground. Starting wherever there’s a loose thread.

It is surely by divine intervention that I have electronics access today, when Blink has given us that wonderful tribute to a wonderful mother. I’m grateful to be here to read it and to offer my condolences.

Trying not to impose on Blink right now, I’m not gonna dump all the stuff I’ve found while going on my rounds. But I can’t refrain from saying a couple of things:

Spanier is still an unknown quantity for me. IF John DeCamp can actually link Sandusky back to Nebraska/Franklin Scandal, I’ll be looking to see how closely that ties in to–I don’t know if I can say it…um, IF Sandusky knew something about someone at PSU, that knowledge might go back to Nebraska/Franklin Scandal figures. And those who merely had knowledge of the activities of those figures. Ya know? Who twisted Spanier’s arm into giving that unusual emeritus status to Sandusky? Anyone? Or no one? Why was Spanier brought to PSU in 1995?

Secondly, IF Greg Bucceroni has it correct, then when TSM was getting started, pedophiles were using it as a meeting grounds. How long after Savitz’ death did that continue? Up until a couple of years ago? And the ONLY people who noticed the activity were the child victims who were dragged there and the other pedophiles who were making donations and, um, incidentally getting hooked up with young boys? REALLY?

Well, it’s possible. Maybe even likely. And I think some non-pedophile adults who’ve been around either TSM or political fundraisers in PA need to search their memories real hard for “suspect” behavior in light of what has now been made public. And, going forward as well. After things quiet down. Or are all the pedos gonna make their connections strictly on the internet now?

Maybe the training that needs doing is for the general public. Bucceroni and others who can recognize pedos in action need to teach the general public how to do that. ‘Cause it’s going on all around them, in plain sight. And I don’t believe all the decent folks will let it slide once they know what to look for.

See ya’ll at those political fundraisers!

@beejay. my “stalk” was as tongue in cheek as yours…
We know who the real stalker in this case is, now locked up.
I can’t imagine any statewide PA political figure of either party whose
fundraiser I’d attend in a good cause.
Good luck & fortitude, beejay. You might consider some PA wealth mgmt
    groups to drop in on.

Can someone tell Jerry for Joe this is not the defense phase but
the phase to say sorry, be contrite, and ask for treatment. Otherwise,
sentence him to the road gang to finish the neverending 30 year road building
project on the MD-OH leg of the PA Turnpike.

  43. beejay says:

@rose: But I bet you’d like to be a fly on the wall at some of Christopher G. Lee’s fundraisers, huh? Just to watch the action in the room???

  44. Rose says:

yeah, beejay. You’re right on that one.
I’d like to greet his supporters, but Beejay
take a cue from the national parties.
Serious supporters and donor buddies hide behind
an anonymous leaf (PACman). Don’t you
think his will donate in private too?
