Dr. Phil Show Hosts Missing Portland Child Kyron Horman’s Step Mom Terri Horman Over Two Episodes

I have been covering this case since Kyron Horman disappeared from Skyline School in June, 2010.    Like most missing persons cases I have covered in the past,  I am of the strong opinion that best efforts at the truth are the only way to propel investigations that, similarly to Kyron’s, have gone cold for one reason or another.   This approach has worked in resolving some of my previous cases.    I am proud of that.  I remain steadfast to the integrity involved in those and future cases.

Over the past 10 months (or so) I have been developing an updated series on Kyron’s case to include my multiple interviews with Kyron’s step-mom,  Terri Horman.   Needless to say as she was the subject of at least three simultaneous cases before an Oregon court and remains a person of interest by the agency investigating her sons disappearance, this has been an arduous and sometimes delicate journey.    Ms. Horman’s experiences during the ongoing investigation of the disappearance of Kyron Horman are critically important to propelling his case and with great hope- finding the truth about what happened to this cherubic and innocent child.    There are dozens of sources,  collateral interviews, forensic experts and legal analysts that also contribute to my series and have done so because of their belief that my motivation is to bring to light information and opinions in such a way that would almost “require” a focused review of Kyron’s case and the likely shaking of that proverbial tree everyone talks about.

Set to publish about 6-ish weeks ago I was asked to postpone the first installment of the series, which I did.  I subsequently learned Ms. Horman was participating in the Dr. Phil program after she completed taping.  Dr. Phils producers were well aware that Ms. Horman had interviewed with me extensively, and anticipated my series would be publishing information that was not known to the public previously in the days prior to her scheduled episode.    When Ms. Horman conveyed to me that she feels obligated to speak out about “her son” in any national medium that will have her,   I most certainly respected that.  I still do.

While Dr. Phil seems like a gregarious fellow for sure,   I have zero interest in being associated with his program, nor do I believe his shows content is designed to do any furtherance of investigation or truth.  There is much concern (although I have no affiliation to the show whatsoever) that the timing of the publication of my series on the Kyron Horman matter might be interpreted differently or inadvertently contribute to the programs content or audience reactions.     Not what I signed on for.   A missing 7 year old boy six years running is not a framework for entertaining a target audience.   He is not fodder for online social media bully campaigns- yet it occurs.

I will be publishing my series on Kyron’s case at a later date, in it’s entirety with no editing adjustments as a result of any of the appearances on Dr. Phil.   I appreciate your patience and your understanding.   Feel free to discuss the show below.

“ knew of pipes, old septic tanks, & abandoned” There’d been a lot of rebuilding & construction & iirc new septic on Brooks Hill church before the abduction while Kyron was in K if not 1, much done by visitors from Nev/CA, friends of the Rev. What mcso deputy would look for concealment sites from scent dogs on the property serving as mcso command, family & press site? And the Owner the Rev’s group sold the property to wouldn’t let mcso treat her home as a possible crime scene anyway.

  2. Rose says:

When Townsley’s “church” bought Brooks Hill (then the deed restricted to sale to a church only), he planned to move his martial arts after-school classes for kids there. (He transported kids from schools in his van.) Iirc he planned the bldg rehab & rebuild so his group must’ve been familiar with structural plans. Wish some reporter this June would ask mcso if all structures within the church property had been thoroughly searched, including below ground structures with minicam. No sighting in surrounding area while egressing argues for a quick disposal nearby Skyline.

  3. Rose says:

On p3 Townsley says he lived in the apt within the bldg from 2003-5:
    https://multco.us/file/44792/download
This rezoning (to obtain a lot of record & authorize the apt as a residential dwelling) approval issued on 6/25/10. I wonder when the appl was submitted and why Banks waited 5 years to get her lot created & authorize residential use of her dwelling. must’ve saved taxes all those years (being taxed for farm use & not as a residence). But she’d been running a commercial business there since 2005.
This appl was pending during the height of searching for Kyron & imo served as an incentive to limit official property searches.

According to kgw & Oregonian, the big announcement Desiree has heralded
for over a year has at its heart: “ to bring more awareness to Kyron’s story
and keep up the search for him”. I must say I wish her well & think these events are valuable
for her emotionally. However if her & Kaine’s innovative “awareness” campaigns
would locate Kyron, they would’ve done so. Kyron’s interests dictate new investigators, say led by FBI
(altho Portland Field Office looks a weaker backwater), so to me from Kyron’s perspective this new venture
in more awareness is a disappointment to me. Kyron seems to be as afflicted by surrounding narcissists in
disappearance as his parents (excepting maybe Terri) & Ms Porter were in life.

  5. Rose says:

Could Iboshi & the summer stringer for
Oregonian ask Desiree at her Press Conf:

What MCSO Deputy briefs you? (name)
What sorts of info do these briefings address? (ie searches only or anything else?)
What are the multiple MCSO detectives’ responsible to investigate named?
    What do they do?
“The FBI is still involved.” How? What exactly have they done
in “investigating”? What are they doing now?
Please name folks with Portland Police involved
in investigation if any and what are they tasked with now. Who supervises them?
Please name retired folks still in. What is their role? Who supervises them?
Re new searches. Who plans? With what riteria? Who oays?
What’s the mcso budget line item and amount for K’s investigation in fiscal year 2019-20?
My guess is Young will show her ignorance about mcso’ current work if asked gor details.

  6. Rose says:

I REALLY want to know the date in 2010 C Banks initially filed her property appl for a lot & resident use permit in 2010. Was it after June 4. And I want to know from mcso how frequently that summer it was searched—when, where, what structures on the entire site? It is the site most accessible to Skyline for both acting out & disposal. Was it given deference & dismissed as a “church” then press hdqtrs?

In this clip from a recent interview by Kyle of Desiree Kyle Iboshi says that Teri led investigators in the wrong direction and Desiree seems to agree. How could have Teri led investigators in the wrong direction when by their own choice they have been laser focused on her for 9 years. All she ever said was say she did not disappear Kyron.

I also think someone knows where he/DAD/ is – don’t think he’s dead at all. Does anyone know if he and Kaine knew each other? – the website (radaris, I think) shows him with an address not too far from the Hillsboro Intel.
I always had the feeling he/DAD could lead to where Kyron is or what happened and that might be why he ran — if DAD had a gun, he couldn’t be too much of a dimwit to be unable to plan.

How do we know that DAD did NOT contact his family???

Even more, I often wonder just how much Kaine knows and doesn’t want anyone else to find out – not if he did something, but he could have a very good inkling of what happened or who is connected to Kyron’s disappearance. Also often wonder why Desiree’s husband keeps such a low profile in all of this.

  13. Rose says:

Reese seems to have many establishment friends and less accountability & scrutiny than Staton. Maybe it’s because he’s doing a great jail mgmt job. Maybe his very public noncooperation with ICE. Search for answers continues in Lindsey Baum case

By Samira George staff writer Jan 8, 2019

The hunter who had found a piece of Lindsey’s skull had been hunting that area for over 30-plus years, and had even passed the skull fragment a few years before, but had failed to further examine it.

Rose Winquist, a Seattle-based private investigator working for the Baum family, thinks it’s a solvable case.

“There’s a connection we just need to find it,” Winquist said.

Winquist believes that people who are familiar with the surrounding area are going to be essential in making new strides in the case.
Since Manastash is a popular recreation area Winquist hopes this spring and summer will lead to possible new evidence that will strengthen Lindsey’s case. Winquist encourages people to keep an eye out for anything that might look suspicious.

Winquist warns it’s important that if anything is found to not touch or disturb it and contact law enforcement right away.

“If we can find the rest of her remains that could be a huge break,” Winquist said. “With those remains there could be a trace of DNA that was left either on Lindsey’s clothing, soles of her shoes, or even a button can have finger prints on it.”

Lindsey had on a bathing suit underneath her clothing the day she was kidnapped and although it has been nine years since her disappearance certain articles of clothing could have survived. Even more so if she was wrapped in a blanket.

I don’t know if anyone else ever saw this before, but even the FBI flyer on Lindsey makes no mention of Lindsey wearing a swimsuit under her clothes. Why in the heck wouldn’t LE list every piece of clothing a missing child was wearing that day? Any jewelry? Any hair pretties? Sunglasses maybe?

How many folks could’ve walked by an abandoned swim suit at some water’s edge and thought it as insignificant, even those aware of the missing child? Makes me so angry that LE does not give out detailed information such as this. What color was it? Did it have a pattern?

It’s also the first time I’ve heard that only her skull was found. I haven’t followed this case that well, but why does it take a hired PI to give out information that should have been given out by LE? Steams me!
Also makes me think back to the man who found the bloody sock in Eastern OR and got no response from local LE.

Desiree’s Announcement of A Big Thing Is Coming last year is —TaDa — Her.
She is kicking off her book publication & book tour a la a MichaelWolff tell all with Siege—
facts from secret great sources. Very tired of her extreme narcissism.
She apparently had been working on it over a year before the 2018

Terri needs to get the West Coast’s best tort lawyer who is a specialist in first amendment/defamation & get a prepublication TRO. I suppose Desiree says profits go to Kyron (none to Morris???) to avert a judge/jury giving Terri a dime iin tort.

    *************

Personally, I came away with nothing new here. Not on either the KGW interview or the speech, q&a. One observation, her husband looks very thin. To me sort of an unhealthy thin.

In the interview she gives Iboshi (at her home), she goes on to discuss some of the info in the book, such as Kyron’s dna was found in the back of “Terri’s truck”, going on to state that she just couldn’t understand why that didn’t “bother” Terri. Huh? Firstly, it was Kaine’s truck, not Terri’s. Secondly why wouldn’t it be there? I’d be more concerned if Kyron’s dna didn’t show up, which would indicate an extremely thorough cleaning had probably been performed. In the beginning there was much speculation about TMH probably taking the time to have the truck detailed, well I guess we can rule that out now.

I wonder if anyone checked the back of TY’s truck or the mustang KH drove that day for Kyron’s dna as well? I would expect it to be in any of those places, rubbed off from a soccer ball, water bottle, the dog or who knows what, like a simple snotty nose or pop-sickle drip.

And this: She said they are narrowed down to searching 100 acres. I’m sorry Kyron could be anywhere. So if, in fact, they are searching 100 acres, they are not looking for a live Kyron, they’re looking for evidence to nail Terri. C’mon, nine years later?

The only other thing that got my attention is she says she plans to donate the proceeds from the book to “a missing children non-profit of her choosing”. Why would she not donate the money to the one that allegedly is out there dedicated to finding Kyron Horman and Lindsey Baum, aka The Kyron Horman Foundation?

Where has all her and Kelly’s gofundme donations gone to? Where’s the accounting for that?

And for cryin’ out loud, when she mentions she talked to “her” lead detective, why didn’t one reporter ask who that might be, so that they could contact that officer specifically.

This all discourages me tremendously. This “missing child”, not Desiree, deserves more attention from both the media and LE and they need to share with the public, period. As kewl would say “find Kyron first”; write a book later.

Here’s the KGW link if you didn’t get that one:

    https://www.kgw.com/article/news/local/kyron-horman/kyron-hormans-mom-to-release-book-shares-new-details-about-investigation/283-f86936e2-95d4-4247-9aa3-83e22362d81a

    T. Ruth. I could not agree more. I know everyone here is smart enough to see this for what it is and for what it is not. Look- if the soul priority is to find your kid (confusing now, because I see her say everywhere he is alive, and now I presume that has changed back again?) writing a chapter in a book about his very cold and very unsolved case should be for the sole reason of ultimately finding him. As someone who has multiple experiences working with a parent of a missing child with a cold case status, and sadly, solving them to include recovery and adjudication, let me tell you this with as much love and respect as I can muster. This is just not the behavior I have ever seen. Even if I believe (and I do) this is about denial- putting off the inevitable, fear, this still is not what that looks like in my experiences directly or indirectly now, in my current roles.

  22. Rose says:

Soldier personally recorded & posted video of Desiree’s talk to the few.
25 min in length, she copiously weeps thru the first 15, which ensures
no “reporter” asks any real questions that might further upset her.

During the next 10 she demonstrates her weeping is absolutely under her control
& absent when she repeatedly accuses Terri. Her chief message to the
MCSO Detective when they talk is for him to go knock on her door & talk to her. Whether or not
Terri says to mcso with my lawyer is irrelevant, she says, to the goal of the detective
confronting Terri at her door. (Now that is a page right out of Krafve’s old playbook.) She
gave out Terri’s location & said she signed papers to buy a house on Young’s birthday.
Everything always refers back to Desiree (you know what that is). She called for eyes
on Terri 24/7. By her noises, Soldier ate it up.

  23. T. Ruth says:

    FWIW

If Kyron is alive, he will be turning 17 in September. I was watching a John Denver special on PBS the other night, and it occurred to me that a grown Kyron, might look something like John Denver (except according to DY, Kyron’s hair is naturally curly). So I looked this morning for a young John Denver photo and here’s one:

In case anyone misses the point of the press conf:
    1) Terri did it dammit & I want mcso & the public 2 pressure her up close & personal 24/7.
    2) Yeah I’m gonna make money from my new book BUT I am giving it as the spirit leads to charities of my choice when I feel like it. (kinda like gofundme, no foundation, no grants, no accountability).

He cites Peterson as reference on his website. They were a team back to the 90s:
    https://www.wweek.com/portland/article-2761-swimming-with-sharks.html
So much for mcso lie detector tests.

Wherein just before promoting in 2011 to Supv of Detectives & Cold cases, Kubic & partner Kravfe reveal they repeatedly went to Hazelynn’s home & interviewed her. https://www.oregonlive.com/gresham/2011/01/post_6.html
This conviction likely secured his promotion in 2011 from Internal Affairs.
At this time, starting in mid2010, deputies said Staton had begun to act very erratically & he said he was on painkillers. Seems like that should’ve been an issue for the deputy for Internal Affairs for the year before he was promoted in 2011.

Now one knows who supervised Kyron’s Lead Detective from 2011 to Oct 2017.

Going back to the beginning. Same question I’ve had since then. This report was dated June 22, 2010 (that’s a Tuesday):

Gates read a statement from Horman’s stepmother and father, thanking authorities for their hard work and chronicling their heartbreak after two weeks without word from their young son.

“It has been two weeks since our son Kyron disappeared,” said the statement. “For the last 14 days we have not been able to talk to him see him playing around the house or tuck him in bed. Any parents would understand the grief that this causes our family.”

“Father’s day is Sunday. For the first time in seven years we won’t have Kyron around to talk to. It hurts us deeply and our hearts are broken,” it said.

    1. for someone you reply to to read your reply, say the White House or a Congressman, you have to have privacy set to full open, which means anyone can follow you including GRU & political bots, foreign & domestic scam artists, & beaucoup strangers. Which benefits the evil or dysfunctional, or exploitative OR
    2. If set to privacy, to see yr communication the person you reply to must be following you. That incentives you to sign up family, friends, business colleagues etc & incentivizes you to accrue by hook or crook as many followers as possible, which benefits twitter’s business. Usual O reporting, interviewing MCSO as an entity, not a detective or the Sheriff, by email:
    https://www.oregonlive.com/portland/2019/06/kyron-horman-search-narrowed-to-less-than-100-acres-mother-says.html
O to MCSO PIO by email, “S’up?”
PIO White to O reporter, “No comment.”

Does it make sense to a single individual if you had a search parameter down to 100 acres to locate your now you believe deceased son that you would not basically relocate by whatever means and dig the effing thing by hand until you found him instead of writing a book? This is off the tracks of reasonable, imo.

Medford OR How easy it is: https://mailtribune.com/news/crime-courts-emergencies/school-intruder-undetected-talent-middle-school-oregon-students-class-teacher-locker-room

How incredibly lucky those young ladies were, ultimately. That man is/was on an active offense trajectory and he will re offend now at first chance. They need to involve the Feds and analyze his electronics immediately. It’s not a damn drill people.

“dig the effing thing by hand ”
She does have the gofundme for searches.
In the summer that would take time from the lake & vineyard visits.
She made absolutely clear in her video 25 min the purpose of
her life & the investigation & the book is to put 24/7 pressure on Terri at her door.
Not Finding Kyron. She expects Terri, with enough pressure, will tell mcso his
whereabouts. A real reporter needs to interview Reese to ascertain how
he is holding the assigned detective accountable.
It is clear her MCSO Lead Detective is reinforcing to her that Terri is the only suspect &
they are only searching where her cell trail led. That is appalling.

DY is writing a book and she says new evidence due to technology.
It is unusual for Western Washington to get “news” on Kyron.

The author who hates the Norwegian flag resides in Seattle.
Likely she sent the “press conference” video to every station in W Washington.

Morris once worked for the Oregonian. She now lives in Seattle and is a true crime writer. I haven’t read any of her books. I don’t know how much research she does or how much editorial control DY has over this book, but I have to admit my curiosity. From what I have read, she and Gregg Olsen won the NYT award. Is she doing Kyron’s book solo? I ask because she mistook the Norwegian Flag for a confederate flag. Questioning her attention to details. Other than the colors, not that similar, IMO.

    Glad your mending Blink.

  41. Rose says:

From the author’s website (she who shall not be named or linked by me for advertising), “For the first time, the story of Kyron’s disappearance is told in Love You Forever – The Search for Kyron Horman. Based on years of research and hundreds of hours of interviews with his mother, Desiree Young, and others”
Did she interview Kaine, Ms Porter, Esther Matthews from whose room he disappeared after Terri left), the Moultons, Ben Keefer, Terri, any employee of mcso who worked on the case, Rudy (or get his depos)? Thought not. Author teaches a seminar in creative fiction writing, no actually iirc it’s crime writing, in Seattle. Sign up locals.

  42. Rose says:

It is striking, on reflection, who Desiree did not have at her press conference to inform the public of her book & its purpose. No member of MCSO, no PR advisor of any kind, no attorney, no advisor from the publisher, no Morris who clearly knows how to get to Medford, Only Tony who is a master of the “pressure them, they’ll talk” school of policing.
Very ill-advised to have no professionals present to coach what she says.
Prior restraint of publication of a novel, oops a book purported by its author to be factual nonfiction of a commission of a felony against a child, BUT at the press conference the author said the purpose of the book was to pressure Terri into confessing. She conveyed her intent for the book is to enlist the public who does not know kyron’s story and her—which she conflates with LE’s—person of suspicion who will crack with enough public pressure. Imo that could do it.

If Riddell is oriented to the MCSO bad actors involved in the execution of their official duties in the pressure Terri school of policing, I think he’d take the case. Staton & those 3 polys telling her she failed, Kaine & Rackner and the removal of her daughter based on mcso employee’s indirect word (mcso let it stand in Rackner’s affidavit & did not dispute), Krafve who has a well-documented hx to point to (WW, Swimming with Sharks), whatever MCSO were behind the CA charges to pressure Terri, etc. Riddel knows plenty about mcso & how to get discovery.

  43. Rose says:

left out 2 words “prior restrain” IS RARE. I think in that press conf Desiree said enough to do the trick.

  44. Rose says:

Since I’m playing buttinski, if I were Terri I’d send the full video & kgw’s along with supporting material, ie the post-press Soldier’s FB call to arms, to Houze’ para by email asking her to run by Houze the para contacting Riddell on her behalf to outline Terri’s request for a consultation.

    Howdy, Blink!
I didn’t know you were under the weather. Glad you’re on the mend. I have several posts still in limbo from the 1st and 2nd, perhaps there are others who were posting as well. Was beginning to feel like Scared Monkeys thread.

Thank you my dearest T.Ruth- I have another week of tractionless traction and God willing I can get back in the swing- of what feels like normal human ness.

Unbelievable that a student would let him in there. What were they thinking? Or did whomever it was know him?

Once again a well monitored sex offender. Right. (yes i’m being sarcastic.)

It’s a miracle this did not turn out much worse.

What a disgusting woman!! now she has the soldiers after her j ob again.I am not reading her book however I am curious if she will reveal the contents of those e-mails I just hope if the FBI is involved they will finally catch the REAL perp! I wonder why she did not mention Deedee.

I would like it if we could maintain compassion for her- I feel like if Terri can manage it in all of this we should be able to. My issue is that nothing she is doing is helpful in locating this innocent little boy.

    Another sad anniversary.
I quit this quest when I learned inconstancies in grandmas statements vs
supposedly inconsequential statements made later regarding who was where when. What a sad, sad, decade this is for folks that really want justice for Kyron.
