Tracy Ocasio Case: Did Fight at the Florida Taproom in April Lead to Her Disappearance?

Ocoee– FL– This afternoon Apopka PD began searches including 10 canines in the are of Ingram Rd and Clarcona. The chief of Police announced it would be the last organized canine search without new clues. Huh?

Police are looking for clues in the disappearance of missing Ocoee woman Tracy Ocasio 27, and Onda “Chris” George. Ocasio was last seen leaving the Florida Tap Room Bar with prime suspect James “Jimmy” Hataway May 27th. Chris George, according to witness reports, was last seen running from his white SUV off of Keene and Ocoee-Apopka Rd on February 12, 2009. Yesterday afternoon Ocoee PD detectives visited Jimmy Hataway in the Orange County Jail, but left with no information regarding the whereabouts of Chris George.

Hataway is not talking. But he was talking to detectives in Ocoee prior to his arrest on drug paraphernalia charges last week. Alot.

The Tap Room Incident

Hmm

Speaking exclusively on the condition of anonymity to Blinkoncrime.com, a source inside the investigation in the disappearance of Tracy Ocasio has revealed that Jimmy Hataway wants detectives to talk to Paul and Jeremiah Hutto.

The Hutto brothers, specifically Paul, were involved in an argument with Ocasio that turned physical outside the Florida Tap Room the evening of April 14, 2009.

TracyRateMyBodyPosts2I interviewed several associates close to both Ocasio and Hataway over the last few days. I knew about this story but until the post to the left from Tracy Ocasio herself, was discovered, could not corroborate it. In her own words, Tracy describes a verbal altercation with an unidentified blonde woman, being shoved to the ground during an argument and then spitting on and hitting Paul Hutto. She went on to say she called police and Hutto went to jail. When Detectives interviewed Hataway, he fingered Hutto immediately. Consequently, Greg Toole, self-proclaimed friend of Ocasio and Hataway was also at the “Tap” that evening. Sources have confirmed that Toole was at the bar that evening and his subsequent felony arrest for failure to register as a sex offender was a direct result. Hataway was not present that evening, but he was aware of the incident.

The Hutto clan et al has a very long and extensive criminal history, foreclosures and evictions. In fact, the home formerly owned by the Hutto family and was seized in a lis pendens motion in 2008, was one of two homes Police drained the murky pool of on Monday. They do however have a sizable property 11 miles away off 429 on Lake Joseph.

Earlier this week, felony agravated assault and burglary charges were filed in Seminole county against Hataway in an assault from August, 2008.

Interviews with direct witnesses in that case to blinkoncrime.com have yielded an extremely compelling case against Hataway in that attack.

Good work Blink. Looks like we have a group of ugly guys hanging out at the Bar. Its too bad that LE cannot use more pressure to get the information needed to solve all three and perhaps four cases.
It just makes me sick that the gym is located in such close proximity to a bar and further that at least two of these guys apparently worked at the gym part-time. It is just another way to find young women to prey on. The management of the gym should have checked the backgrounds of every person who worked for them.

Absolutely, and patrons should ask if they have!

Talk about “the plot thickens”……keeping an open mind, but my gut is still going with the proximity of her last known whereabouts.

Deflection is way too easy…..and this is alot of dirt being kicked up by someone who doesn’t appear to be stupid, at least not by the accounts of those who “know” him. As I recall not a one mentioned “stupid” as an adjective (nor a verb, or adverb). Stupid has only come up as in “he’s not”, and that was pretty constant……as I recall. (okay maybe that’s a negative adverb?). This one has got to be rattlin’ your chain.

I’m going to say in about 5-6 interviews of Jimmy’s friends, 100% across the board, NOBODY thinks he is dumb.
Another 100% Never saw this coming and feel that if Jimmy is responsible for Tracy Ocasio’s disappearance, he should prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
They are split over the assault last August; I however am not. I spoke to a friend of his he admitted this to in detail, and it matched details of the crime only Jimmy, the victim, and cops know. That in itself gives me great pause over Tracy.

For heaven’s sake, Blink. The more you learn about this case, the worse all the players involved appear. Tracy’s parents & best friend were on JVM last night and I feel just awful for them. They are all in the most excruciating agony.

Thank you for the good work. I pray they find Tracy. I pray they find Chris, too. This is one bad group of people, Jimmy Hataway, the Hutto brothers, Otoole, and all the “friends” posting complaints here about the way their lives are being revealed. They’re wasting away in a violent, alcoholic/drugged haze. What a wretched existence.

O I know, I just want to commend those that have toiled in that “haze” for getting out of it. There are a few.

An old NFL defensive lineman named Bubba Smith, when asked how he was able to make so many tackles in the backfield, said “I just grab everybody back there, then throw guys out until I find the one with the ball.” It seems as if LE may be doing this. I hope it works out. It is a tough thing when there are so many people whose names come up in a case that it makes your head spin. It is compounded when they all have criminal records. Some are violent, some are grifters, a lot have 30+ traffic violations, and all seem to have a tremendous apetite for illegal substances. Like Blink said, Kudos to those who have worked hard to grow up and put distance between themselves and the bad influences.

There are so many people involved I cannot keep up with who is who, who assaulted who, who likes meth, crack or ‘shrooms. My head spins daily.

Was Tracey actually physically fighting or was she just involved in the arguing and inadvertantly got shoved around? Was her mentality that she was with Hataway, so while he was not present that night that she was under the protection of his friends? It seems as if his friends were the ones against her, not for her. Sorry Blink, this case has put a fog in my mind and I occasionally draw a blank on even the names of the key players, much less the cast of hundreds swarming around.

    Blink,

So now there is possible motive for two people having a beef with Tracy, but no direct link to her leaving that evening. And JH with no known motive but a credible story linking him to another assault…along with all the rest which surrounds him.

Do we know if Hutto was at the Tap the night Tracy went missing? Was Hutto acquainted with Hataway, or Toole? and acquainted well enough to have exchanged cell numbers? Was Hutto acquainted well enough to know where Hataway lived, and that he got rides home? Hate to say but usually drugs make for lots of acquaintances….whoever has ‘em is everybody who wants em’s friend….at least for awhile.

Can any of JH’s friends chime in if you know? or maybe B already knows?

If Hutto wasn’t at the Tap, and there’s no known relationship between Hutto, Toole and/or Hataway, it would seem a bunch of fodder.

A smart person who was aware of the April 14th incident at the bar could have considered the others living close by who had a motive, well before anything happened.

    Yes Toole knew Huttos’
    Tracy definately did
I have no evidence that Hataway knew Hutto currently. I just know he knew of the incident.
To my knowledge, Hutto was not at the Tap Room that night that I know of (27th)

I do want to commend you on your work on this case, Blink. FWIW, I’ve made sure the Sentinel reporters at least know about it, which I was surprised when one didn’t. It’s a useful analytical tool.

For those whose “heads are spinning,” this is a relatively simple case. All people have histories, cross-associations, and most crime victims, believe it or not, have criminal histories in general, as do most perpetrators. There’s no easy formulaic way to have a simple answer at the front end. It’s easy to “back in” to an obvious answer after the truth is known, but at the front ends a lot of rabbit trails must be explored. That’s what lawyers and good investigators do. It’s good the police are looking at alternative possibilities, including strangers in Hataway’s neighborhood, possible enemies of Tracy, and the like. I still think the combo of Hataway’s history and his being seen with Ocasio last are pretty compelling.
    TY.
I am not surprised, investigative reporters are stifled by the editorial staff these days unfortunately, and very limited in “real time” resources. In their defense I dont always have the “reach” I do in every case.

Hi Blink, First of all, I just want to say that this site is great and I’ve been following it for a long time. You really do an excellent job. I normally do not post comments, but there is something that has been bugging me, and I’m wondering if you know the answer. Do you know if Toole was at the Taproom bar the night Tracy left with Hataway? As I understand it, he also lives in the area where Tracy’s car was found and where her phone was “pinging” from. I’m just curious to know if he was there that night or not.
    Yes he was
    B

  15. Roach says:

To me the alternative possibilites are as follows in order of probability:

    1) Hataway did it.
    2) Hataway and Toole did it.
    3) Toole did it, knowing Hataway was driving Tracy home, and possibly in anger about her role in getting him re-registered as a sex offender.
    4) A stranger did it as Tracy walked to her car after driving Hataway home.
    5) The Huttos did it in revenge for the altercation in April.

The last, though, seems like a convenient smokescreen for Hataway, who, being friends with Tracy and having been at the bar before, likely heard the story and thought it sounded possible. Does anyone know if the Huttos were at the bar that night?

Something else is weird to me, though. The video surveillance shows Hataway and Ocasio leaving around the same time, but their body language does not suggest they’re a team, that they particularly know each other, or that she is planning to take him home. She walks right past him. A parking lot assault is another possibility, or perhaps a last minute begging for a ride home by Hataway in the parking lot. It’s possible, with them being acquaintences, she felt it rude or unseemly to say know after some sob story.

  17. Frank Einstein says:

I think it’s important, especially now that this other incident with Hutto has come to light, that everyone keep an open mind about the possibilities of what happened that night. While Mr. Hataway does seem to be the obvious suspect, to convict him in our minds and judge him as if he has already been convicted would be wrong. It is the justice system that will determine his guilt or innocence. Luckily, public opinion does not alter the facts.

  18. Curious says:

Frank — Thank you. My thoughts exactly.

  19. EyesWIDEOpen says:

Although I admit what has been presented thus far is extremely convincing in closing the book on Hataway – there is still a gut feeling telling me not to be so quick with that trigger.

I will judge so far as to say I don’t think he’d be the crowd I’d hang around with… but to convict him in my mind of possibly 3+ murders? Well that is still a very long stretch of spectrum.

Interesting. I will tell you I am confident he had nothing to do with the disappearance of Chris George, and I am not convinced he is actually missing.

    http://www.cfnews13.com/News/Local/2009/6/11/texas_equusearch_to_aid_ocasio_search.html

Texas EquuSearch is coming to Central Florida to search for Tracy Ocasio, 27.

News 13 spoke with Tim Miller, the group’s director and founder, who said he plans to be in the area by Friday.

Miller said he spoke with Joe Ocasio, Tracy’s father, who Miller said personally asked him to aid in the search.

Miller is getting clearance from local law enforcement to bring in his teams.

  23. Curious says:

RE: Comment #16 … At the end of the video, it may appear that way, as she walks past him. But, earlier in the video, Hataway is starting to leave, and Tracy comes up behind him and takes him by the arm and leads him back to the bar. Looks to me like she is totally comfortable with him. They don’t actually leave until a little bit later. I had also read somewhere earlier that they were “kissing” at the bar. Not sure where I read it, or if it’s true. But, it seems to me that they were definitely “together”. I’m thinking that maybe someone didn’t like the idea that they were leaving together.

I also do not believe that Hataway had anything to do with the “disappearance” of “Chris” George.

I have also read two different comments regarding the Jennifer Kesse case in which these people almost seem to know who the guy is in that surveillance video. I can only find one of the comments, which I’ve attached below. The other I could not find, but it was almost the same thing, stating it was a Hispanic guy that worked as a painter at Kesse’s condo and had big feet for his body. Sounded like the commenter actually worked with the guy. If this is true, I would hope that these guys have talked to the police and the Kesse family.

no, this guy is not the same person in the surveillance camera, the guy at the gate has black long hair, pulled up and tucked in a black rag, to me he looks latino, his pants are spray painters cover alls tied around his waist,in his right hand he’s carring an igloo liq. cooler, in his left hand he’s carring a pair of paint shoes by the shoe laces, one shoe is facing his butt the other is facing the camera, this person is walking back to Jennifer’s Apt. complex, and works the second shift, this is also the reason the dogs track Jennifer’s scent back to the Apt., her scent was on him.
This person is a gang member, and was working at her Apt. his vehicle was left at the apt. complex when he took her to his home..I’m very familiar with those spray painter coveralls.

Re: Post #24 by “Curious” –

As pointed out by TR in Post #25 above, your “quote” supposedly from Scared Monkeys did not sit well with me; I do not remember reading it at all, and it bothered me in the same way that it did TR.

The comment you have supposedly quoted from a “gary” on June 9th is NOT from Scared Monkeys, I don’t believe. There is only one Jennifer Kesse thread, and that comment is NOT on it. I also do not believe I have ever seen ANY posts from a “gary” over at SM, especially anyone posting such ominous, cryptic information. DEFINATELY not the sort of sleuths/ community members that we have over there.

There is a section here on Blink’s site with the title that you have quoted, “NEW DEVEOPMENTS IN JENNIFER KESSE CASE: DO PICS UNCOVERED BY BLINKONCRIME POINT TO HATAWAY?” – it is the thread before this one. However, I went back to that section, and found no such comment there either.

Again in agreement with TR, what you have posted is very unnerving, and needs to be investigated. Could you please clarify where you found such statements?

Blink, are we missing something here? The wording (such as it is) just really bothered me . . .

Let’s just say that my family and I knew him extremely well and was very familiar with his home situation. That being said, I do believe that you have your descriptions of Jimmy and Paul backwards. The exact opposite is true. We know exactly what the Hutto’s stand for and what they’re into. I’m not saying that Jimmy hasn’t met up with his share of trouble, by any stretch, but if you’re describing personalities, you’ve got them totally reversed.

I have longed watched over this missing person case as the company I work for had many people at the time staying in that area working on a project. I also believe they were painting, on the job. the first time I ever saw the surveillance video, a person came to my mind right away, who has long hair, male, thin, big feet, and wears a pony tail and i have always wondered if it could be the same person since the hotel they stayed at was just down the street at the time. Maybe I didn’t read enough of the details. Wasn’t this a gate community that only the residents could come and go with pass code. Also I am curious about the white dodge pick up truck . Did they ever identify the driver of that vehicle? It looks very familiar. Cab and tires.

I had read in a blog someplace that a supervisor of a painting outfit that was doing some work around the area at that time may have recognized the man in the video. he had said he worked in the area and wore bigger shoes than normal and dressed that way, the only difference was he had a ponytail. Has anyone heard of this and if so are the police aware? I will keep looking to find where I read that.

The funny thing about all this is that everyone seems to know a different side of all the players. I was told that the Hutto’s were big into meth. Guess no one really knows and of course there’s always speculation. Regarding Jimmy’s mother, she was quite abusive to him when he was way young…from what I learned early on with Jimmy. Could be the reason for all the anger now. I’m not condoning punching a mother in the face at all. It’s just that the anger has to go somewhere. We reap what we sow. I know that if my son ever did that to me, he’d better not ever fall asleep in my house again…lol. When Jimmy was with us I never saw a bit of anger or aggression. As a matter of fact, he was the one that stayed calmer than anyone else. I know people change but I also know that deep down, like you said about Paul Hutto, there lies a good heart. Unfortunately, if kids aren’t given constructive direction at a young age, when they face that fork in the road, they seem to take the most dangerous route.

I do know that Jimmy’s Mother has suffered from mental illness and attempted suicide a few times, I also know that he had 2 sisters that his Uncle took in, but would not take Jimmy, so that did not help. I mention this as an awareness issue. If hes guilty, it matters to me not.

  40. MackiezMom says:

I have many friends who were victims of abuse and neglect as children. I was an abandoned child, who was neglected, then later abused by my mother. A close friend of mine was terribly abused by his father…tied to trees and beaten, chained by his neck to a tree and a dog house. I will confess that we (and a number of other friends who suffered severe abuse/abandonment) have serious trust and commitment issues, however, none of us has murdered anyone. None of us has molested children, or beaten children. It’s a choice…we could have followed in the footsteps of our abusers, but we chose not to.

That said, I do believe that horrific, unthinkable abuse and neglect can push a person to develop into a violent criminal. This is especially true when the abused/abandoned/neglected child doesn’t have a competent advocate, confidante, or mentor. Many mental illnesses have resulted from the trauma of abuse. I am not saying that we should condone the crimes committed by these victims, who have developed into victimizers, but neither is it acceptable to say it doesn’t matter. It sure as hell matters. Monsters are rarely born, and are much more often created.

When we, neighbors, family, friends, and members of the world we share, fail to intervene when we see a child who is abused and neglected, we become part of the problem. Who was there for this kid (Jimmy)? And with regard to him punching his so-called mother in the face…yanno, respecting one’s elders is appropriate when the elder is respectable, but when the elder is an abuser, it doesn’t apply.

I’ll give you a little example. The last time my mother violently attacked me, I was a pregnant teenager, my mother was high, sitting in her filthy living room, and she commanded to “help her clean the house”.(.I had just arrived there, having come from my grandmother’s house) What she meant was that she wanted me to clean her filthy house, which I did not help to dirty. I replied “Mother, to help means to aid or assist, it does not mean to ‘do for me, since I will not do it for myself’”. She proceeded to attack me, and for the first time, I blocked, and I hit her back. Two hard blows. She never touched me again. So, yeah, if my mother, who’s mental illness *I* suffered from, just as much as she did (if not more), behaved respectably, she would have been respected. When she resorted to beating the shit out of me, because she was too lazy to clean her house, and couldn’t handle the rational truth, she got hit back (which she had coming). Finally. I have subsequently discovered that bullies often respond this way… they will beat you up until you fight back. Sounds like Jimmy’s so-called mother had a smack coming to her, after having terrorized her son for years.

Does that excuse this man for crimes he may have committed? No. But it does help us to understand the importance of protecting children, even those who are not “our own”. (If we share the same world with them, then they are “our own”.)

It matters, yes it does. Very much. Realizing what abuse does to a child’s development, and intervening to protect children, is very helpful in circumventing traumatized kids from becoming sociopaths and tramatizers.

I am horrified that was your childhood. To be honest, I am a bit on the fence over some of the things you said, but simply because I did not come from that enviornment (phew) and I would chew my own arm off before I raised a hand to my Mom. Just because we come different worlds does not mean I dont 100% concur with your end message.

I do. This is everyone’s problem, like it or not. Lastly, you already know this, but no child ever deserves to be mistreated, thank you for breaking the cycle in your situation.

    Blink,

I do understand the tenet of respecting one’s elders. My maternal Grandmother was my safe harbor throughout most of my childhood. I never raised my voice, much less a hand, to her, nor would I have considered it. Nor any of my aunts, or most people in the world. I will add: Fortunately, we Americans do have a right to self-defense. If someone attacks you, you don’t have to stand there and be beaten.

My mother is not well. She was born shortly after the death of her sister, and my grandparents were emotionally unavailable throughout her early years. She was very young when I was born, she divorced when I was an infant, my father was an absentee parent throughout my childhood (though we now live in the same town, and have a close relationship). My mother suffered from arrested development, narcissistic wound, as well as a mood disorder. I understand and appreciate her fragility, H O W E V E R, when she digressed into illicit and prescription drug abuse in my early teen years, and began to beat me, she lost the right to the respect afforded a parent. It was not every day, but she would back me into a corner, and attack me. I am 5′ tall ,and she is much larger. I would put my hands up in defense, to block my face. That went on about once a week, when she was “coming down”, until she tried to attack me when I was pregnant…then it was all over. We have much more of a sibling relationship, where she is the dependant sibling (I have supported her financially for 10 years).

My initial post on this subject was (largely) in response to the person who posted that Jimmy should have never raised his hand to his abusive mother. Where do y’all think he learned that might was right, and that violence was the way to solve problems, or get what he wanted? I have read many accounts of his mother beating him, and though I do not defend any crime he may have committed, if she was beating him, she had a return blow coming to her. It’s just too bad that these same witnesses, who KNEW that she was abusing that kid, did not get CPS all over it, and push (and push and push) to get him out of that situation early enough. Now look what he appears to be. It’s very sad. It’s horribly sad for all of his victims and their families, and also sad for the loss of Jimmy’s innocence, childhood, and life. If he did these things, then he will end up dead or in prison for the rest of his life, after not having much of an opportunity at life.

I am no apologist on behalf of criminals. Imagine, though, that it was … hmmm …. I am considering an appropriate example … imagine a child who has been brutally abused and neglected througout childhood, who grows up immersed in drug and crime culture. And NO ONE cared enough to intervene. And then he grew up, and became a druggie/alchy, and eventual murderer. Maybe like the kid in Tracy, who was kept my his aunt, chained and tortured by her and her friends and their neighbors…if he had not escaped…and that trash (his aunt, the family…with their KIDS in tow, the neighbors who knew and participated in Kyle’s torture)…but had eventually grown up and escaped, to be unleashed on society. What a very sad, sad, sad, sad commentary on the people who could have helped him, and resultingly spared those he harmed or murdered.

All of that having been said, I have no reason to believe that he does not know right from wrong. That makes him culpable for his actions. May justice be swiftly forthcoming.

For all reading here, if you happen to see a child who is neglected and abused, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Intervention on behalf of a child is difficult, it takes many, many calls to the authorities, it takes love and caring, and a commitment to follow up. If people find out you called, you may have to put up with some backlash. But you *might* just save a child, and people that the child would cross paths with.

Love and compassion to the Kesse and Ocasio families. May your daughters be brought home…Godspeed. May you find strength in one another, compassion from those you encounter, and healing.

I supported your post, you got that right?

Clarification: Kyle didn’t commit any crime that I am aware of. The analogy/comparison is to Jimmy Hataway, who has been described as having been horribly abused and neglected (by “friends” and acquaintances of his).

  44. MackiezMom says:

Blink, I did. TY. I wanted to clarify the respect for elders thing. I do agree with the basic tenet, but when you’re being beaten on by anyone (including a parent), sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to influence the person to stop. I have been in two situations where I was physically abused (on a regular basis). Both ceased when I fought back. It was effective for me.

    Mack-
Just a BIG God Bless…that was alot of energy sent out. Suffice to say, I understand where you’re coming from, and glad to see you broke the cycle, living proof it can be done.

I ponder the nature vs. nurture, and don’t think there’s a black and white answer for it all either, but there are better answers, and agree the nurture is HUGE regardless. You’re posts show alot of thought and insight IMHO. I’m glad you found your own answers and have a handle on it.

Sure, post here first, only I can see it, if its something I can answer, I’ll email you if necessary
