Caylee/Casey Anthony Case: Roy Kronk Fired For Undisclosed Reasons- Updated

Posted by BOC Staff | Casey Anthony,Caylee Anthony Case,George Anthony,Roy Kronk | Thursday 29 October 2009 1:20 pm

Orlando, FL- Roy Kronk, the infamous meter reader who after three attempts finally located the remains of 34 month old Caylee Marie Anthony, has been fired from his position as a County employee today.

Roy-kronk

Kronk failed to show up for a pre-determination hearing for the first step of an undisclosed disciplinary proceeding according to Orange County Utilities.

“Roy Kronk was scheduled to attend a pre-determination hearing yesterday to address issues pertaining to his employment with the County. He failed to show for the hearing, and a decision has been issued terminating his employment effective immediately,” the county wrote Kronk’s lawyer. “Therefore, the County shall not pay any legal fees associated with representing Mr. Kronk that are incurred from this point forward.”

Update#1 I received this email from David Evans, Roy Kronk’s Attorney.

I have received a number of inquiries today regarding the decision by Orange County Utilities to terminate Roy Kronk’s employment yesterday.  I am furnishing this statement on Mr. Kronk’s behalf.  Mr. Kronk is the Orange County Utilities worker who found the remains of Caylee Anthony.

The termination of Mr. Kronk relates to a difference of opinion between Mr. Kronk and Orange County regarding a workplace injury sustained by Mr. Kronk in the course of his job duties at an Orange County Utilities warehouse.   This dispute arose because Mr. Kronk’s management directed him to resume work duties after his injury, and Mr. Kronk and his health care providers did not consider it to be safe or medically appropriate to resume those duties at this time.

Mr. Kronk is evaluating his legal options relating to his termination.  In the meantime, Mr. Kronk is volunteering his time to a veteran’s group in Osceola County–he is providing counseling to military veterans to help ease their adjustment to civilian life.

David Evans

Update #2

Roy Kronk injured his kneck and shoulder while lifting boxes in the Utilities warehouse.

Mr. Kronk found Caylee and we are all so grateful except maybe for Casey and the Anthony family…I honestly believe they did not want her body found. The Anthony family thought perhaps Caylee’s remains would never be found they all wanted to go with the charade that Caylee was still alive so Casey would possibly not be convicted. The FBI and LE cleared Mr. Kronk of any involvement in Caylee’s death. All evidence points to Casey, but of course the defense team will try to spin this and any personal issues with Mr. Kronk, but it will backfire always does. Not to be sarcastic, and correct me if I am wrong but didn’t Mr. Baez himself owe child support and he only paid it to be accepted by the bar? hmm…

  2. Kleat says:

Ok, Baez is slow– there is an article at http://www.clickorlando of Weds, Dec. 10th stating that:

“Baez wants the Florida Mall in Orlando to turn over all of its surveillance tapes from 2 p.m to 5 p.m. on Nov. 16. In a motion filed Monday, he asked a court to subpoena them. No decision has been made yet.”

SO, that ‘Monday’ would be December 8th, how many days since Bart said she had the photo ‘published’ on Nov. 19th?? Baez serious about finding Caylee through that? Or did he know there was really no rush, except to make sure he got the request in before the body was recovered– oops, got only a couple days there!

And also, why does he need to wait for the court to order a subpoena of the Mall tapes? Why can’t he request the tapes directly from the mall as this is, according to Baez, a MISSING LIVE ENDANGERED child? He knows it is not Caylee, but the tapes just might convince a jury that she was indeed there. Maybe the tapes will show both girls.

WSH, here’s a clue to help confirm the date that the photo of ‘Caylee sighting’ was released: WESH 2 reported on Nov 21st, 2008: (I don’t know the date– anyone?)

“The photo was released on the same day prosecutors released five DVDs showing FBI investigators’ interviews with Casey Anthony’s parents. The interviews were conducted in late July and are the latest in evidence released in the case.”

Please forgive my idiocy for this question. Has it been established, or confidently theorized, the reason why Casey was seen backing her car up into the garage for the sole purpose of taking Caylee from the backyard, through the garage, and into the trunk, to avoid possible witnesses?

  5. Kleat says:

Ok…. here is the guy who says he searched the crime scene with a couple of others on his own TWICE, he believes cops with K9′s were down there, he said he was back there also with Tim’s crews. And he says no way that anything was down there. (doesn’t say when he did his two independent searches)

WHO is this guy in relation to the search proper, or other searchers doing things on their own– his name is DREW TATE. (sp?)

  6. Todd in Tulsa says:

Do you all think there are some whom believe Kronk had some involvement in Caylee’s disapppearance and/or death? I would think that question would quickly be put to rest, be it that if Kronk did have any involvement, we would have gotten that accusation right off from Casey, instead of a babysitter, and in two different locations

I don’t know about anybody else, but, no matter what or how….discovering human remains, no matter who it is,(ESPECIALLY a missing 2 1/2 year old) it would traumatize me for the rest of my life and I would not want to replay it. There has to be nightmares for him forever…

I don’t know…would NOT want to be him.

    Folks-

There are legal issues here that are solely related to Kronk–owning to his status as an employee (or former employee) of a government agency.

    RELAX.
    TAKE A BREATH.

You’ve been provided with what is tantamount to a press release on his behalf (referring to the email that was provided to Blink), and you have pretty much close-to-zero facts, except that he failed to appear at a pre-determination hearing (which, btw, he would have been duly notified of well in advance, due to PROCEDURAL DUE PROCESS requirements).

Afraid I am too busy/exhausted to go into more detail at this point.

All I can tell you is that it would be less than prudent to be feeling sorry for Kronk over this issue (not commenting on anything related to the case against Casey for now).

(Just lol to myself here, and wondering when it is people think lawyers are total, lying scumbags vs. when they are the champion of someone’s rights, etc. I know that if Baez was representing an actual, existing, “Zanny”, as opposed to her daughtet, Cindy would be spitting nails at him around every corner, and directly to his lying face).

Pro bono for Kronk vis-a-vis the county??????
    HELL TO THE NO.

Pro bono has a specific meaning. (There is a reason that most pro bono work is done in the name of children, defenseless animals, indigents, AIDS patients, the homeless, the battered and bruised, the disenfranchised, etc) (Having done pro bono work for all but AIDS patients and homeless citizens– only due to lack of time to spread it around– I can tell you I would rather sleep in, any day of the week, than wake up early to meet Kronk and represent him for free).

Great that he finally brought LE to Caylee, but dont forget that Case had already been indicted for murder 1, etc, before Caylee’s remains were finally found/identified (oops.. I mean some poor little 2+ yr old girl who is NOT their grandchild, but whom was cremated per Cindy’s directives, nonetheless)

Sorry for the snark, but it’s late and we all know who killed her. It is no mystery. It never was.

    Sweet Dreams-

I dont know what type of testament it says about me, but as a fellow female professional I crack up at the printed and verbal versions of * HELL TO THE NO* every time, and use it as often as I can thanks to Mr. Woo, and thank you Silver.

#26- Provoking P—- Awesome and informative post. Thanks so much for that. And, I agree with many others===from the very beginning–something just did not sit right about Mr. Kronk. Agree also though, that we should be thankful about him discovering Caylee’s remains…….

This case just keeps getting more and more convoluted and interesting all at the same time. Still hope and pray every day that this child did not die in vain and that justice will prevail.

  10. Kleat says:

If the family knew Caylee was both deceased and in those woods, and they set in motion a plan to prove she was not in those exact woods and also to bleed the tipline for what it was worth to continue their own official public ‘belief’, arranged the publication of sightings to again support their position of the child being alive on the exact date the ‘woods’ were cleared and documented as such, then the next step would be to allow/coordinate/suggest/facilitate the time for reveal of the remains.

#48 ProvokingPoirot – I have appreciated your comments for a long time on various articles that Blink represents. When the body of your article contained no “quotes” or reference to another author, to me, that was my “300lb. elephant”. So I simply asked for clarification. As a reader (and one who just happened to stumble across the identical wording the very same day you wrote your comment), it was odd to me. No harm, no foul. I understand now, as it was clarified. Plus, it’s pushing the envelope for me to question any commenter that Blink refers to as : “the very lovely and talented P Poirot.” lol -

To be clear, I was not questioning your opinion, I was needing clarification of something quite different. Fair enough?

Pam, you were right to question, and I dont play favorites, your all my lovely and talented (insert). I so just sounded like my Mom.

Maybe I only read it wrong (your last post on the photographer). I was tired, still am. Also, in my post, I meant to tell you that Erin Brokovich looked ‘good’, but left out the word.

I really appreciate all of your research digging up articles from the ‘mall sighting’.
That incident was perplexing to me, to say the least. Again, a cynic here, but the delay in reporting the sighting, coupled with the barrage of other sightings that were forwarded to investigators and then found to be baseless, in my opinion, was a direct effort to portray detectives as disinterested in looking beyond Casey. Overwhelm them with hoaxes and wack jobs, distract from the real criminal investigation, put pressure to follow up on the mall sighting, then document that they said they were not required to follow all tips from the Anthonys. Job done. Cindy now has the email from the detective; “rush to judgement” ala OJ.

I am interested to see if you get a response to your very pointed questions on the last thread. Somehow, I have doubt that you will.

WESH-Channel 2 anchor Jim Payne asked the pertinent question: Did Roy Kronk’s firing have anything to do with the Casey Anthony case?
“In a roundabout way, yes,” WESH’s Bob Kealing said. “David Evans, his attorney, says Kronk sustained a workplace injury from the job he took to avoid the unwanted notoriety that the Anthony case brought him.”

Finally read your response Blink. I assume they are union. If not. Good luck to him. Most are. I know when my hubby was on workmens comp. He was hit by a pick-up truck (on the street) while delivering on his route. The guy clipped his knee and totally screwed it up. Guy keep going hit and run. He required knee surgery. His company placed him workmans comp. He wasn’t required to see a comp doctor. he had his surgery (his own surgeon) did his rehab (for his knee) his doctors choice. And yes he is in a Union. I even handled comp claims when I had a job…(worked for a builder) . We were not in a union, i didn’t make the guy go to our doctors. Thats why I said something isn’t right here. The mere fact he didn’t bother to show up, tells yeah something. If he thinks he was treated oh so badly, get a lawyer and sue. here might be a whole we really do not know about his employment record. Being involved in Caylee’s death does not help. He did make his own employer look like idiots. Employers do not like that. All in all Blink. Im gonna lay odds he will slink away until the trial. he just might be one of these guys who makes a living on workman’s comp. I never trusted this guy. He aways seemed shady as all hell to me. I am sure there is alot more to the story. If your hurt on the job and placed on workmans comp, would you NOT just do what they are telling you to do , rather then risk losing a job. 23. Roni says:

I don’t care how Casey looks. Her actions and the discovery that has been published so far speak volumes. Kronk was just another person (just like us) who was curious and had a theory. He had the opportunity and took it. Fortunately for the case, his theory proved correct. How he came to that conclusion is insignificant. Caylee was found and that is important. If I had not been in mid-America, I would probably have been looking in the same place based on statements by Kiomarie and Casey.

I don’t understand the attack on Kronk other than understanding it came from the defense and some bloggers ran with it. Putting so much attention on Kronk is certainly taking the attention off the fact that a child was found with important evidence.

  24. Kleat says:

wsh, I’ve always ‘felt’ that Mark NeJame knew more about the ‘Caylee is alive’ posturing and he may have known about the detectives clearing ‘the woods’– Cindy wouldn’t tell him her plans, but NeJame knew where they were headed and somewhat about ‘lengths’ those grandparents would go to and how that might cross the line to helping Casey.

Instead of the press conference, did they talk about this mall photo and ‘one girl’ in it only, and did they do that on Larry King perhaps? Must go watch that again, sometime.

  25. Kleat says:

Ms. Bart is not an independent person in this, I agree, she would never come here and answer questions. Rhetorical anyway, for the most part.

A question for the ‘shopper’, did the woman in the foreground in the photograph of the little girl in the center of the play aparatus, strike that person as a ‘possible’ match, age wise, hair length was wrong, but otherwise, did they think this young woman might be Zenaida? (the woman with the young man’s arm over her shoulder? And if so, did they take a photograph of her inconspicuously or watch if she gathered up that little dark haired boy and leave?

The Anthony’s probably didn’t need to send a bogus ‘shopper with cell phone’ out there that day, even if the girls were a set up as so many people were now alerted to their pleas for a live sighting of their granddaughter, but to have a photo that was TAKEN on the 16th (we haven’t got proof of that but for what Bart said), and Bart said published on 19th, other news stations have the report on 21st.

Then this is coupled with the rants against the sherriff’s office, media reports that they are no longer putting resources towards looking for a ‘live’ Caylee, reports that there are other cases going unattended while this is going on and there is no live child. Not only do the Anthony grandparents blame the sherriff’s office (the FBI didn’t help them either), they don’t care that resources to find a live Caylee were taking away from helping other families when they KNEW the child was not alive. They have no conscience, either of them.

Cindy brings up Elizabeth Smart case, but she forgets that no one delayed reporting that child for 31 days, and there was no evidence of a body on their property or in their vehicles.

    boz – lol!

  27. Kleat says:

mayhem, what have Kronk’s problems at work to do with finding Caylee’s remains? Nothing.

  28. Kleat says:

Repeating OrlandoEAST only spreads that person’s message. Just my opinion.

  29. dddeerma says:

Isn’t all this Kronk talk a true life red herring? Who cares? As has been pointed out, his part in the whole is very tiny. It had been suggested the first day NG put the Anthony story on tv, that those woods were the logical place to look for Caylee, if Casey was the murderer. Kronk only did the logical thing, was persistent, and eventually accomplished what OCSO and the FBI and Tim Miller did not; he found Caylee’s bones.

How many of us have a squeaky clean life, over decades? If you have been divorced, chances are that someone will be able to dig up dirt.

So what if Kronk thought he would get a lot more money? He should have gotten more. I always thought George and Cindy showed the extraordinary greed that was to come by stiffing Kronk. They should have been grateful and they could at least have been gracious.

  30. westsidehudson says:

    Kleat

It doesn’t make sense. If you seriously think this is a missing child, & you put yourself in potential peril by photographing this child surreptitiously, with dangerous kidnappers lurking nearby who might catch you, wouldn’t you contact local police immediately? Wouldn’t you also get a description of who appeared to be with her, and relay that as well? If it were I, I would’ve dialed 911 on the spot. I would be incredibly nervous that I might be discovered while taking that photo. What if they followed me out of the mall? I don’t know all of the circumstances surrounding the incident, but the delay of publishing the photo comes across as rather a casual approach to something that required immediacy.

  31. suz says:

If his union is any good, he should be back on the payroll before too long.

  32. Olive says:

I too, am glad that Caylee’s remains were found, that was the main thing. But I still can hear LP stating on the NG show…”But everybody knows when she died and — the 30 days is not a secret anymore. And don`t be surprised — don`t be surprised if Orange County or the FBI don`t drop it on us here that they`ve got the body somewhere.”
    http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0812/09/ng.01.html

And lo and behold, the very next day, just that happened. It just seems pretty obvious, to me, that a lot of people knew where Caylee was.

  33. westsidehudson says:

    suz

Maybe he was caught doing Elvis impersonations on the side (that post of yours cracked me up). Seriously though,”David Evans, his attorney, says Kronk sustained a workplace injury from the job he took to avoid the unwanted notoriety that the Anthony case brought him”. Sounds like he was caught faking the illness, or intentionally hurt himself. That was coming from his own lawyer so….Maybe not, it’s worded a little fun though. I guess he didn’t want to go back to his first job?

  34. ProvokingPoirot says:

I am NOT for the defense. I believe with every fiber of my being Casey killed Caylee; alone. Now I am going to try to EXPLAIN one more time why I dislike Kronk and what Kronk has done to make me question his motive. He doesn’t help Baez…he hurts the SA by his embellishment of the facts of the find.

Justice for Caylee. That is the one true reason we all follow this case. Justice for Caylee.
I do not believe Kronk had anything to do with little Caylee’s murder or her disappearance. I am so thankful Caylee was found as it appears the defense and the family, not to mention the murderer did not want her found. Thank God she was found, despite the conditions and time it took for all the CSIs and LE to get there. When they did arrive, I have faith that the crime scene was kept as pristine as possible in the hands of these humans who I believe were focused on every single little piece of ANYTHING that could be of importance for justice for Caylee and evidence to convict the killer.
My problem with Kronk is plain and simple. “You can remain anonymous.” Those words were spoken clearly by the dispatcher to Kronk. He could have remained anonymous but chose not to. He wanted his CREDIT due. He could have requested from the State to LE to please make me anonymous until you need my testimony. He didn’t have to have a lawyer. He didn’t have to collect a dime. After all, he just found her, right? He put himself “out here” for his 15 minutes and when a person does that, then they better be prepared for what is going to come with that fame. Greed comes in many forms and it is not just in dollar signs. It’s the overwhelming desire for “more” of anything. He could have refused the $20,000.00 he got from GMA; he could have refused the $5,000.00 for Mark Nejame, though few would refuse it. I fault him because his story changed. Is everyone aware that he was only hired by Orange County on May 27, 2008? What a lucky guy, huh. Just a couple of weeks before Caylee is murdered, the stars align for Kronk to be the one to find that precious little body, first in August, but not as soon as he saw it…later that day, after work, then the next day, then the following but nobody seemed to care, he says. I wonder why Kronk left what he saw at the crime scene for 4 months. Wouldn’t human instinct make one want to look closer at what they saw? If it were me, I know my curiosity would get the best of me and I would have found a way to walk right up to what I saw to see exactly what it was. If water was there, I am sure I would have put on some boots or found a way around it somehow to get a closer look. He seemed to know a lot about WHERE to look and how high the fence was and how close it was to the Anthony’s house. My only reason for distrusting him is if he was so sure there was a skull there in August, how in the name of all that is holy could he just leave it there until December. The kind of statements that Kronk has made like the ones below, leave me with a lot of questions…. And by the way, why did Kronk promise Lee Anthony that he “would keep him out of it”. Keep him out of what? Did Kronk speak to Lee or know Lee or communicate with Lee prior to the remains being found?

    http://scaredmonkeys.com/2009/01/15/meter-reader-roy-kronk-defends-himself-psychics-take-credit-orange-county-deputy-richard-cain-under-investigation-keep-your-eye-on-the-ball-and-casey-anthony/

“Also with hiring the best attorney that money can buy, any good attorney can get you off of anything like my attorney did in South Carolina”.
WKMG has personally confirmed that information is included in the criminal background check conducted on Roy Kronk prior to his hiring with Orange County.
“Kronk’s’ attorney, David Evans, said Friday that it is likely his client will likely give the interview Monday or Tuesday. Evans would not say which network would conduct the interview. It’s customary for networks to pay expenses for its guests, which Evans said would happen, but he would not say if Kronk was being paid for the interview. Also Roy stated “if I don’t get paid for the interview, then I will not tell them everything”…
“Roy Kronk tried to get an exclusive interview deal with a media outlet and expected to be paid one million dollars for the story. It was declined and he then refused to tell the story unless he was going to get paid. He stated he would tell them the real truth of what really happened that day.”
“Back in August of this year, I had previously reported to Crimeline and to the sheriff’s communications center that I had spotted something suspicious, a bag in the same area,” Kronk said in August. “But I failed to tell them everything about the case that I know so I don’t get into trouble. I promised Lee Anthony I would keep him out of it. Don’t you think it is quite odd, the grandparents out in California doing an interview and Lee is here all alone and we decide to say hay, look at what I found, but the media and police did buy it. I have been and will continue to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s office and the FBI, but I wanted to get paid and they refused to pay me for my story.”
He should not have gone on national TV to expand, explain, or expound on what he told LE. The Prosecution has to maintain stellar, pristine (as much as possible) evidence. He is a key witness and should have kept his mouth shut. He created fertile ground for the defense’s fodder. His credibility is shot and all because he wanted his 15 minutes of fame…that and greed. If he was nothing more than a good and concerned citizen, why compromise himself by giving interviews or selling any photos he may have taken. This doesn’t advantage the state, especially since he changes his story over and over. He has impeached his own integrity.

  39. ada says:

    Here’s a sample…

Under normal circumstances the results of Q29-1 that was a mixture of Brian’s DNA (and possibly Casey’s or Caylee’s) would most likely not be presented in a court of law to try and “prove” anything because of it’s poor quality of returns and inability to differentiate the mixture. But if the defense continues to pound on the “17-allele”, the fact that a mixture of DNA that has a 17 allele, and a strong return on the female chromosome, and which was taken from a shovel that was known to be handled by the accused, in what could possibly have been “management of the victim’s body”, will come into play. And when this happens, the defense will have opened the door to allow the prosecution to make a connection between Caylee’s dead body, Casey, and the shovel.

Just saying that if I found a body, or what I felt was a body, I sure would not have gone away and waited all that time, I would have notified a news organization or called the cops again and again and again. This gentleman “thought” he located a childs body in the area where Caylee Anthony was missing. Why the patience? I am still not ready to totally write off LP daisy chain.

Thinking more about how the Ants could productively channel their grief into action (ala Adam Walsh and Mark Klaas), we all know their plain old foundation won’t work because everybody knows the real story about who killed Caylee. The only angle they could take that would have any credibility would be to help families where the child was killed by a family member. Since that’s actually the most common scenario, they’d sadly have no lack of people to help.

BUT…it would require them to admit that Casey did it, and I reckon they won’t do that until after her appeal (if ever), many years from now.

Brilliant PP. You skipped ont thing though. Kronk is a DEAD-BEAT DAD One of my hatest things in this world.

    Provoking P – I love you!! I absolutely agree.
    Something stinks with Mr. Kronk.

Sorry, Blink, did not mean to offend, but who is “Joyless Radar”?

#85 I’ve have never heard that interview with Mr. Kronk. Do you have a link?

Some people say that Lee was on the phone with D. Casey. Do anyone think he had anything to do with Mr. Kronk finding Caylee?

Sorry, coffee is not kicking in this morning. Trying to keep up, but there has been going like crazy here in the last week or so. Brain freeze.

Sorry, I took a liberty, Joy Wray = Joyless Radar.
Interview was not with Kronk, was with Alex Roberts, his super.

You have to take into consideration that the place where the remains were found is a standing water place (swamp) and rarely the area dries enough to canvass. Irony, after reviewing Cins depo this is one of the statements I noticed. I copy and paste this info found in depo. P 474 Lines 1-8
    http://www.wftv.com/pdf/21310288/detail.html

“About two houses before we’d get to Suburban, on Hope Spring, we would usually cross the street”. sleuths and Psych nurses! What does this mean? If not mistaken the two houses Cins referring to back up to the swamp where the remains were found on Dec. 11, 2008?

wsh, agreed– who took the photo and when, but also WHEN the first report of the photo was made– time on 16th? How long before Bart got it and did Bart call 911 or LE immediately? Did Bart get it from Cindy and the PI after they discussed it’s value/credibility??

Why take the photo and leave it on your phone and not do something immediately? That child was playing around there for HOW long? Enough time to take photos of her near the slide, and getting into that little bumper car. Caylee could climb into a bumper car, but would she have the co-ordination/balance to step-over the edge of the car as this child does? Or would she be ‘climbing in’ a bit more. (just asking– she would still only 30 months)

Was the other little girl also a red herring (if this was a set up) — and was it a mistake to have her in the same play area at the same time?

Whoever that little girl was, she was ONE HAPPY CAMPER in that playground!!

Noticing a woman in the background– far benches surrounding the play area– she is not paying attention to children but is talking on her cellphone. Nothing suspicious about this, but she had a cell phone, did she notice the ‘Caylee’ look alike(s) and did she call a tip in at the same time about either girl as a sighting?

It will be interesting to see if the sherriff allowed investigation of this particular tip. This is part of the defense, the OSCO gave up on Caylee at this same point, and therefore she died or is still out there.

I’m sorry guys- but neither of those 2 pic’s look like Caylee to me. When zoomed in, you can tell that 1 has a much sharper nose and the other is too old with blondish hair.

  49. Kleat says:

two year old Florida girl in ‘extreme danger’– catching this ‘late’, no amber alert, last seen with her mother at a Walmart, no licence numbers given for some reason. Why in danger?
