Caylee/Casey Anthony Case: Andrea Lyon Shows Her Thought Bubble

Orlando, FL– At a Defense Attorney Peer Lecture in Orlando, Florida last year, the self appointed “Angel of Death Row” lead defense attorney in the case against Casey Anthony for the murder of her daughter Caylee Marie, shows the world her thought bubble, courtesy of Bill Scheaffer, Legal analyst for WFTV.

It is unclear how Mr. Scheaffer attained the recorded audio which has since been removed from the WFTV site, but what is clear is Ms. Lyon knew her segment was being recorded.

..My Client is human, it’s the jury I’m worried about..” ..Sometimes ugly is presiding… or do you have really great judges in Florida?.. “I have a case right now where both the crime and my clients confession are on on videotape.. I just think that’s unfair.. I mean, one or the other, but both?..

I wonder if anyone has asked Alton Logan what he thinks about it?

I cannot argue with anything above said about defense attorneys who are more concerned with fame and the bottom line than justice; I could not sleep in that skin either. I do, however, believe that such attorneys are no less a part of the problem than the type of prosecutors who are only concerned with their conviction rate and the next election. They care not for justice either. As it said in the link about Alton Logan, “Daley chuckled.”

If you are charged with a crime of which you are innocent, and have a chuckling DA, wouldn’t you want to hire an equally win-oriented defense attorney, perhaps one such as Andrea Lyon. Perhaps if she had defended Alton Logan, he could have avoided losing so many years of his life.

Justice23 posts: “If not, there should be as something like this could completely change the state of missing person’s cases forever if Baez actually gets this ridiculous motion granted somehow.”

The defense should be able to obtain a list of everyone registered as a searcher that trampled, err, searched potentian crime scene areas. Maybe not all searchers are volunteering with the sole intent of locating evidence.

First, I would like to say I could never condemn someone to death. I however wouldn’t say I am against the death penalty.

I unfortunately did not get to listen to all the tapes.
I think that Ms. Lyons speech was geared toward manipulating the audience she had before her at the time.

I think she is very skilled at her job and knows what works and what doesn’t. I found her speech very informative. It was like listening to a behind the scenes exposé on the movie “The Devil’s Advocate”

Ms. Lyons does not care about what atrocity the victim had to endure.
They are dead and gone and her client has already been found guilty.
All Ms. Lyons cares about is whether or not her client will be handed down the punishment of the death penalty.

In the words of Casey Anthony “She will lie, cheat, and steal” in order to win her client’s life. Even if that means allowing innocent people to take the fall.

She sees herself as the Angel of death row. She never said she was on the side of good. After all, the Devil himself was once an angel.

I was offended as a female professional, but I get that just because I would not glibly and cavalierly offend so many in so few statements, makes me different, not necessarily better.
I am old school. I am Helen Hammarabi. We do not have a perfect system of justice, but it is the best there is, imo.

I found her remarks about others in her profession, her peers, advesarial or otherwise,
Bush league and petty. I am going to let people jibe about her trips down the hair adornment aisle stand from now on. Not really, but you get the sentiment.

How are you considered a proponent or instrument of justice when your porcelana is being thrown out of court?

Thanks again to Veilanna, I see she has the Drew Tate interviews posted too– great work!! I think others will be grateful that I won’t be pestering people for the Andrea Lyon missing tapes any longer! :) Who knows, those missing tapes may surface yet, but I’m satisfied that we got most.

I am wondering what is the draw to Casey Anthony case, for Ms. Lyon. A refreshing change, young white woman, stable home background, good schooling, two parents, an older family oriented and supportive loyal brother, the frills, a pool, a phone, two computers to use, working towards an Emelda Marcos collection, a queen sized bed in own room with ensuite bath, no criminal record, no mental illness unless poor judgement and chronic lying and mirror gazing qualifies.

But what of the cases that need Ms. Lyon’s ‘true grit’ or is this just a refreshing change– the guilty, but pretty and young and white and petite?

  5. Kleat says:

Hey Dee, notice Ms. Lyon used ‘pastor’ and did not use the term ‘priest’– she was talking to a southern audience, closer to the bible belt influence, the big Baptist churches such as the Anthony’s belong to? Regional adaption perhaps. ;)

OK…………now they have changed the info to say that his arrest was for something else, but they will be questioning him about her dissaperance, wouldn’t it be so wonderful if this little one was still alive? I won’t get my hopes up too high, as I usually set myself up for these things only to be shot down. Again.

  8. Todd in Tulsa says:

Casey wants to “boast” about having that “connection”, that her callous “gut” was telling her Caylee was still alive? Well, I have a 5 year old daughter, and I have that “connection” with her daily, and I think I can speak for 100 percent of moms and dads out there that, if your child is missing and not where they are supposed to be, every single one of those moms and dads would be an emotional wreck, exhausting every resource available to them, INCLUDING getting the authorities involved that day. Not 31 days later. Call me judgmental, but if I were on that jury, I would demand to see the “note of instructions” from the nanny, and if they didn’t produce one, one of credibility, along with viable sources to back that document up, my vote would be guilty as charged. Don’t even bother bringing in whining cryin’ lyons. There is not a single parent in the world, if they had nothing to do with a disappearance of their child, who would go out partying, tattoo shopping, and felony five finger check-frauding while the status of their own child was uncertain. How much BS can you throw at that Mr.Hornsby, Ms.Whinetraub, and the dynamically derranged duo of Baez and Lyons?

Blink, I agree with your comments. Ms. Lyons in one speech undid years of women fighting to be seen as more than “bitches” and their physical attributes.
Ms. Lyons has disdain for women, victims, victims advocates, the law, jurors and essentially herself.

Ms. Lyons is quoted as saying she must find a way to humanize her client. In doing this, she dehumanizes everyone else. She makes the killer’s life more important than those that were murdered. In essence, perpetuating the victims and their families suffering for the sake of winning at all costs.

Blink, at the risk of sounding stupid, could you explain the Helen Hammarabi comment. Way over my head thanks.

IMO, this will not go to trial if Lyons concludes she cannot keep her
“winning streak” of death penalty reversals.

Kleat, just wanted you know that I have been keeping up vicariously through all your comments, insights, synopsis, opinions, and expressions. I never watched the 48 Hours because I knew I would not be able to stand the manipulating, the acting, the misrepresentations – - and that goes double for my not viewing the Lyons’ videos, but with a much longer list. They have seemingly forgotten the tiny, innocent, helpless 2 year old child who so sufferably lost her life at the hands that SHOWED NO MERCY, and are dreaming if they think anyone else has.

    Kleat, I thank you.

  16. westsidehudson says:

” I think she was being facetious.
This comment was taken out of context so it doesn’t make any sense, but within the lecture it makes total sense. She’s passionately against the death penalty. So am I. Her humor may seem inappropriate, but as a law student it seems par for the course. I just don’t see the big deal here.”

I’m not certain what comment is being referenced, but I will take ‘them’ on collectively.

I am PASSIONATELY against the death penalty. And I am against people being murdered. I get the gallows humor. I have worked alongside professions where, maybe, it keeps people sane. But statements made situationally ,in private, vs global sweeping statements about particular groups, are less offensive. They intend no harm. They are not an announcement of prejudice. They release pressure.

Please note: There is truth in sarcasm or “being facetious”, at least in terms of revealing the person’s opinion who is making statements.

How would one would like to be viewed or perceived? If concerned, then why not refrain from making a public statement in a class?

And if I am still being obtuse, then someone needs to explain the context in which “jurors are not as smart as defense lawyers, judges are only driven by votes, victim’s advocates are bitches and female prosecutors wear strap-ons” would be equally hilarious to those specific groups, I would like to know THAT context, so I can put it in perspective, so I might laugh. Do help!

It may seem perfectly okay for those who hold those views to find it humorous.

But then again, a room full of the Klu Klux Klan may find jokes about African Americans par for the course, and taken out of context (they too, are passionate about their cause), if evaluated by society at large, might be criticized. They only “mean to keep everyone separated” because they are “better than blacks”. Yes, that is an extreme example, but not no much off the mark either. I am a potential juror, should I think it hilarious that I am stupid? I just don’t get it. Oh yeah, I am stupiid.

Why does she need to denigrate to be effective ? Why does she have to assert superiority over victims in order to establish a sense of camaraderie with the students? Likely hubris….
Sorry, not an excuse for dismissing the pain of victims, or the commitment of jurors who ge paid, what, tops- $ 40 bucks a day? Yeah, I see the point, we are dumb as door nails. Do you see how this hurts INNOCENT people represented by defense lawyers or not? There ARE innocent defendants accused. A Lyons HURTS their cause!

But no one cares, do they? It’s about winning. My bad.

Unless, something horrible happens to a law student’s family, then it changes everything, or does it? Do you like being the asshole then?

I have a theory as to Casey borrowing the neighbors shovel. I have a bad back and cannot lift anything that is very heavy. I live to work in my yard and goldfish ponds. Occasionally, I need to move rocks. If they are heavy, I put them on the blade of my long-handled shovel and drag it to where I need it. Casey isn’t a large person and would need help moving Caylee’s body. It is so much easier than trying to lift and carry. And the handle ties from the trash bags could be tied around the handle of the shovel. May sound silly, but makes sense to me. JMO

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  29. Kleat says:

Has anyone heard yet, a humanizing comment about the victim in this case? What Casey called “the child” or in the surrounding many minutes of jail video recording (can’t remember if she ever even said the baby’s own name) depersonalizes Caylee “I want her to be found whether I’m still stuck in here or not.”

Think about it, we are focused on this one woman, who when her job is done, she will be a thing of the past, we won’t remember the lies (incomplete truth is a lie) she had Tony Pipitone talking about ‘no client on death row’ without because last client was killed 11 months ago by lethal injection, so people believe she has this perfect ‘get all’ off, record. Tell that to her client this time last year as he finalized his will and talked to his family over the Oprah cameras.

We are focused on Mr. Kronk and what his ex’s are saying on video tape, to the same time of editing by carefully selected questions to bring out specific answers, letting people talk to hear themselves, jump to conclusions they would not jump to normally, let them be famous and full of ‘the military chief that I am’, or ‘the victim of my ex that my imagination helps tell’.

We are focused on all the searchers who ‘prove’ no remains were there because they did their own little amateur search but did not map precisely where they walked, write a report of the conditions but they did make a ‘conclusion– ‘I didn’t see a body, therefore no body was there. The conclusion, is what people are talking about.

All of these things but not a word about Casey, oh, yes, except she is upset, worried, wants to see her family. Then these get repeated in the public as ‘fact’ and become part of the new ‘facts’ of the case, a new sort of ‘factlore’.

There is NOTHING out there recently, that is not from the defense, and not presented in a partial, incomplete, or downright untruthful/deceptive way, and that should not be questioned. But no one to do it in the mainstream media, and if they do, who has the people to back up the work? Not the state, not Caylee (whoever &^%& ‘bitches’) advocates. Just the four lawyers and their investigators and their ‘videos’ and motions as ‘proof’.

Who will take the focus back to a more balanced discussion that reaches the Florida jury pool to now, as Mr. Conway says, ‘balance the playing field’.

And there is one more bit of ‘factlore’ coming out, and that is, the perception that Ms. Lyon is some formidable force with a perfect record of getting her clients ‘off’. She can’t even get some of her clients off the death penalty charge, nevermind ‘OFF”. There is a perception of this death penalty lawyer being able to win all her cases (we know that’s not true of course) but more importantly, there can also be an impression that she gets clients off– wins the ‘case’. When Mr. Hornsby said he thought the defense has a good chance that ‘it will work’– what will work? Getting the Mr. Kronk considered as a suspect only? Or, will this work to ‘win’?

The defense can let the public/jury pool, jump to their own conclusion about that. The impression might be that this new Kronk motion might turn the whole case to a defense ‘win’. Not so– it’s just a motion that is at stake here.

This coming week or so will be interesting to see, for Judge Strickland’s orders– or will he hold all off until the hearing, nicely timed for after sweeps of course.

  30. Kleat says:

(it may also be, that Ms. Lyon wanted the tapes to be heard, then kill two birds– take down the station and sources that aired it, silence them during sweeps). Ms. Lyon does not empty all her pockets in a 45 minute lecture. Nothing she said there, would be news to her prosecutor rivals I suspect. They have to know their rival. But the jury-to-be, is learning now who they should listen to? Doesn’t matter that Lyon said in her lecture, that you want the jury to like you, because if they don’t, they’ll kill your client– even that doesn’t matter, that can be turned, especially in this case, to ‘hate me’ but love my client– blame me if you don’t like me, don’t blame the client who I’m just doing my job to save from being killed)

I actually think you make a strong point, and also why I felt it possible Lyon ( in an untraceable way) was behind this. Has anyone considered she may want a reason to be the first off the sinking ship in a way that is not injurious (pun intended) to her Client?
    B

  31. wpgmouse says:

Oh, cmaissol, for the longest time I thought your name was French based.
It just jumped out to me now. LOL at my feeble blindness. :)

  32. dddeerma says:

I guess, for me, this defense lawyer thing boils down to the idea of limits. What are the limits to defending a client? Acc to the Casey team, there are no limits. Perhaps Lyon would argue that the death penalty is such an unreasonable verdict that any and all tactics are considered valid to aid the client in avoiding death. This is the Cindy Anthony form of mothering a daughter in jail. No lie is too large, and no damage to innocent bystanders will be regretted. I would say under any system of laws, behavior that deliberately puts the innocent in prison and lets the guilty escape follows no code at all. Not even Hammurabi’s.

  33. Marcy says:

Andrea Lyon, IMO, is a vile human being, caught up in her own ego. The only thing she crusades about is herself. Ms. Lyon said that her intelligence is superior to that of jurors’. People do not take kindly to such smugness, & any jury will remember her colossal egotism ~ forever.

When I heard Lyon say on the Today Show last week that Roy Kronk took December 10th off (while insisting that just as much circumstantial evidence points to him as it does to Casey), I wanted to throw something at the TV. The insinuation & innuendo were crystal clear: Kronk suspiciously & unusually took the day off to bring the body to where it was found the next day, December 11th.

Why would Kronk need to take a day off to accomplish this? How hard could it be to bring a bag of tiny bones plus a skull? He couldn’t have done this the morning of the 11th?

She really must think people are that stupid. For Lyon, it’s all about winning at all costs. There is no passion for justice, just a passion for self-aggrandizement.

Well, now that we know she encourages attorneys to make up wild theories, I don’t think the jury in the Anthony case will accept the defense’s insane theories.

I’ve come to believe that, while Lyon was hired initially to keep Casey from getting the needle, she is now running the show & making sure Baez et al. follow her orders correctly. Bet Andrea Lyon & Cindy Anthony are becoming BFFs.

From Wikipedia:Subornation of perjury is a crime. It is also an offense for which an attorney can be disciplined, disbarred or jailed. Subornation is the circumstance where an attorney gets, or allows, another party to lie. If an attorney makes a false representation in court, that is also a crime and he could be subject to similar punishment as subornation.

If Kronk was never convicted of these past bad acts , then I believe Baez and Co. to be guilty of suborn perjury.By asking for submission of these prior bad acts to show the court proof that Kronk should be considered a suspect and having prior knowledge that the bad acts were not found valid and EXPUNGED from Kronks record! This nightmare team is going to cause a mistrial- then what?

Amateur search? They were working with Texas Equusearch, part of a registered search effort. The searchers “non-finds” in an area should weigh as much as a “find” in an area. Would you be dismissing this as fast if they had found remains?

Do you think it is coincidence, that this writer is from the very same city as Lee Anthony’s lawyer (alma mater Gonzaga), before he moved to Orlando? Probably– but then Mark Furhmann is up in that neck of the woods too, just across the state line, and he’s been down in Orlando on the Caylee Anthony case too. Wonder how else this investigator/writer, would know clerks or other law office personel way down in Florida. Could simply be police connections too.

  43. chad says:

For time poster here on this case, so if I am addressing something that has already been discussed on a prior thread, I apologize in advance. I have to say in my own humble opinion, that this case is very strange, with lot’s of twists and turns, and way too sensationalized for it’s worthiness. I lost interest when Lyon came on the scene, and when Baez, it was revealed was not qualified to try a death penalty case. I am also absolutely flabergasted that Casey has this high dollar “defense team” . A death penalty expert, with unemployed parents??? It has been mentioned in the past that an anonymous privite individual from Connecticut is financing the defense for Casey. Is this correct? I cannot believe that anyone would be so gracious to allow carte blanche defense for Casy Anthony. Can someone help me wrap my brain around this? Anyone?

  44. Kleat says:

Ross, ok, a point to you, but the question remains– WHERE was the coverage of the search, did that include the water where, by September, was over the body and it’s bag by almost two feet?

WHERE was the search? The problem lies in the lack of that record– if they searched the area and did not look under the kudzu that was by now in water, did not hack away or carefully pull aside, the bush and foliage so they could ‘look’, then there was no way they could say that the area was completely searched.

TES searched other areas, they did not wade, drive through the water. That searcher who said she walked over the body area, really says she walked towards and past– did she walk on the body area and clear that precise area? Or walk on the dry areas next to the fence, then move over to the high area next to the roadway and walk along that?

Does Tim Miller believe that in September, there would be odour from the body still? Does no smell mean ‘no body’? What about insects and lack of them– under water in September, and if she is talking about maggots and ants or beetles (that hide in the dark), what are they now feeding upon, if the body is completely skeletonized?

The problem is, ‘seach’ is taken to mean complete, every nook and cranny, every inch, when it clearly was not a comprehensive search to ‘clear’ the area.

Besides, TES, the professional organization, did NOT clear that entire area, as being thoroughly searched, not ever.
Kleat is correct, you cannot clear an area that is underwater. oxymoron.

Anthony’s attorney Jose Baez, said, “I’ve got four lawyers who are dying to cross-examine him.”

The source within the investigation also points out an FBI lab finding that hairs recovered from Caylee Anthony’s skull and to the single strand with the so-called death band recovered from the trunk.

This was a segment from WESH in Orlando. Apparently I wasn’t born yesterday, but a week ago Thursday. Does Baez truly believe his own smoke coming from his mouth? How does a lawyer trump scientific evidence?

  47. Todd in Tulsa says:

How can the defense have “evidence”, especially evidence of “innocence”, that the state and prosecution don’t have? It sounded as though when the defense came out and said “We have evidence of Casey’s innocence”, they would have produced it right then and there, instead of allowing their “innocent” client to sit in jail unitl the 2010 trial. Also, if they did have evidence, why would they make that publically known, instead of privately going to the state, the prosecution, etc, and presenting their compelling evidence, instead of lying to the public?

Westsidehudson, you have struck more than a nerve. For I have been one of those advocate bitches, though I will not be brought to shame by the likes of Lyons whose hatred for humanity, in general, seeps from her pores like sweat from the flesh of an overtaxed athlete.

I have struggled and wept with public defenders who have fought for the lives of their terrified clients, and who for the rest of their lives will ask themselves if they did the right thing in obtaining life instead of death. Let God be the judge, even as He will.

Besides, life is the far greater punishment in an environment where death would be a means of truly escaping any form of accountability but aside from all that, what good would it do to pluck out the eye of the one plucked out your eye, so that then there would be no difference between you? Is that justice? You killed, so I’m going to kill, and that will teach you! What, exactly? What has such a practice taught society? Kill and you’ll be killed? Has that ever stopped anybody? Have we abolished murder by our murderous policies? Does it not serve society better to have to look into the face of one such as Manson, than it would have served society to have forgotten him, entirely? If you are forever throwing out all that is broken, do you ever learn how to fix anything?

I have been an advocate bitch. I have seen newborns raped by their sick-o pornography addicted fathers who just wanted to know what it felt like, even while their little babies bled to death, or were maimed for life! And perhaps my reasonings are a bit different than yours when I say I find no value in taking such a life as keeping it around to suffer the consequences and perhaps teach the rest of us something.

Have you ever not read The Executioner’s Song? Or wept over Dead Man Walking? Do we know so well the makings of such beings, why they are the way that they are and why it is that they do as they do, that would give us the right to do as they have done and end their lives? Do we?

O but how I could go and on, and perhaps we’d argue a few issues, but the fact remains, two wrongs have never made a right, and an eye for an eye just makes both of us blind.

    Respectfully,
    Gavi

WSH- who are you upset with? Not WSH? I would say you agree, what did I miss?

  49. Gavriella says:

Blink, dearest Blink, I’m not upset with anyone! Just having read the post I would have to say that WSH is perhaps a bit more kindhearted than I am. And that’s a compliment to her? character!

If I am cross with anyone it’s those who would play God that I find so offensive. Like Lyons, who’d set the guilty free and hang the innocent for her glory. Those like her, make me vehemently angry.

I hope I didn’t worry you, dearest Blink, and dearest WSH.

  50. Gavriella says:

Blink, WSH, again, my apologies. I hadn’t watched but the first five minutes of the first part of Lyons before this afternoon. I watched all four available parts, and don’t think I could stomach more. So, her mention of bitch advocates got me riled. Forgive me for causing you to wonder.
