Observer, glad you’re back; ’tis a dark new day.
B, thanks for passing out the “grieving goblets” – grief has certainly been the reaction, but the power and draw of the proverbial Goblet here may fuel a swifter journey to justice.

I’ve refrained from commenting for a bit, just sifting through and sorting out the pieces that have been added to the puzzle. The big picture is certainly becoming more clear, with the corners, some of the sides and a chunk in the middle filling out; and more will surely arrive tomorrow.

Here’s what I’m trying to fit together:

In an inebriated, agitated state, MH made her way from the JPJ through the cold mist to the main intersection that leads to the highway “from whence she came” (and no, nothing strategic about my OYE reference – I personally don’t think that poster knows what happened or by whom). There, someone driving (in my estimation) from Ivy onto and over the Copeley bridge saw her (she would have been walking toward this vehicle on the sidewalk), indicated they would stop, and pulled off into the RV lot to let her in. Even in her state, it must have been an unthreatening person, i.e. someone close to her age whom she felt comfortable climbing in next to and explaining her tale of woe and need for a ride back to Harrisonburg.

This locally-based individual had a better idea, and likely never had any intention of driving her the windy hour up to JMU in the rain and back. He turned the car around, headed back onto Ivy/29, heading south with a certain destination in-mind. I’m thinking Blandermar Farm Pond, based on the approximate location in which she was discovered. This would have meant turning right onto Red Mill Road, then right onto Blandemar Farm Dr., right onto Waldemar, which turns into Chopin Drive and skirts around the southeast side of the pond (from an aerial view) – in proximity to the tree-lined/hayfield area in which she was found. (I’m putting out specifics in the hope a local may know if any of these roads this are private/impossible for young people to access/park near the pond on that side).

The individual may have had alcohol or another substance on him (or not), but whatever the situation, I believe she was a willing passenger up until they got out around the pond (again – focused speculation here). It was there that the tone of the interaction changed somehow, and she either attempted to flee from him or simply marched/ran away from him in fear or anger – or both – from the Chopin Dr. area, through the tree-line and onto the Anchorage Farm property, where he caught up with her and a struggle/violence ensued.

That was probably too specific to be accurate, but it’s my first attempt at fitting the pieces. (This puzzle could be taking up the table for awhile…)

I was going back through some threads, reading all of the hard work of fear and hope that we have all shared in order to bring Morgan home to her family. I believe Morgan was trying to help us see where she was all along. In many instances we were so close yet so far away. I cried when I came upon this post by me, the words together are haunting:

Blink, Good Morning. Last night I posted a link to a pic that I found on google. My post never showed up. I think it was because the url was long and it got kicked to spam? I shortened the link.

In the original url was the words farm and Morgan Harrington. Can you look at the pic and tell me if you think it is her and where it was taken as the pic has a creepy vibe. Thanks Blink

Of course, he could use cattle guards instead of gates. (Cattle guards are really treacherous deep rutted things that go in the ground right where you would put a gate, as cows won’t walk across them. Your horse may try to walk on it and break its leg, though.)

I have been gone all day and just saw the news. I am, as everyone here, devastated. Words can not explain or mitigate the feelings of those who has been so deeply and inexplicably touched by this family. My deepest sympathy and loving support are with the Harringtons as they begin this next part of their journey. It is my heartfelt hope that they can find some small measure of comfort in the knowledge that people everywhere are praying for them and Morgan.

This is an unthinkable crime. But, I am 100% certain that no stone will be left unturned by this group in an effort to find and successfully punish anyone responsible for Morgan’s death. For those involved, your time will come…be assured. It WILL come.

To the Harrington’s may God watch over you and continue to give you strength and courage so that you may keep Morgan’s spirit alive.

Blink, thank you for all your unending efforts and the efforts of all those who post here. My prayers are with each and everyone of you also. The job is not done.

  11. suz says:

cmaissol, the farmer thought it was a deer skull because there wasn’t any hair on it (I guess when he walked closer he saw the hair lying there, and the rest of her and her dark clothes).

  12. suz says:

Here’s the citation for the hairless skull: (snip)

He said at first he didn’t know whether the remains were human or animal, describing them as very badly decomposed. “I looked down and saw what looked like a human skull and my first thought was that it was Morgan Harrington,” said Dass. He said the skull had no hair on it and he couldn’t tell from looking whether the remains were male or female.

  13. Concerned Mom says:

Does anyone think it is possible that the way he got Morgan to the location on Anchorage Farm, was not by accessing this location from Anchorage Road or even Red hill Road, but by coming around the back side of the farm from Blandemar Farm? Blandemar farm backs up to Anchorage Farm, but it is usually accessed by going to Ivy, taking Dick Woods Road, then Taylor Gap Road, to Blandemar. Just thinking out loud.

I pray they find this animal or animals soon. God be with Dr. and Mrs. Harrington and Alex.

  18. sue says:

He was convicted of violent rape at age 16?

I hope I am wrong, but I am worried that this may be the work of more than one perpetrator. The Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome murders have popped into my head on so many occasions while reading about Morgan’s disappearance.

It just seems more likely to me that she could have been grabbed so quickly on that bridge if someone was in the passenger seat, hence, no one seeing anything.

If some guy pulled over and kind of had a chat and she got into his car, I would think this would have taken longer and greatly increased the odds of someone seeing something.

I guess she may have recognized some guy as a fellow concert goer, and that was enough for her to get in rather quickly.

Maybe they both went to the Wachovia bank and tried to use the ATM card. Wasn’t there some possible footage from the nearest bank ATM?

  19. mary says:

#1276 – Suz “Now, she could have been loopy from being under the influence of whatever she had in her system, and the perp pulls off on the shoulder and says, “Come on, there’s this great party we can go to, here’s a shortcut, we just have to hop this fence and cut across this field…” So they start off across the field and she’s drunk and happy to be looking for a party. Then he konks her on the head and she never knows what hit her”.

Almost EXACTLY what happened to me when I was raped.

  20. Chad says:

    Mom.3

I know I wasn’t going to theorize tonight, but here goes…my thinking is the perp staged her purse back at the concert to concel the true crime/accident. After Morgan was abducted, and or perished. To muffle/ confuse LE, family, friends etc…. the timeline, to throw LE off. If you go with that theory, Morgan had to have persihed that night late, for the perp to come back, and stae the purse.
But, on the other hand, we still have the stolen purse report to deal with, and explain away, which we still do not know if they are related or played apart in Morgan’s dissappearance or not.
The purse could have played an important part/role in the perps abduction plan early in the evening, or it could be totally unrelated to Morgans dissappearance, and a series of unfortunate events for Morgan that night.
    Good point nonetheless.
Again, where does the purse come into play?

  21. suz says:

Word Girl, but they weren’t locked gates, were they? Maybe they didn’t have gates at all if they used cattle guards.

The presence of cattle guards would eliminate the possibility of access to the remote area on horseback, but would make it totally easy by car as there would be no gates to open or close.

  26. Rob says:

There are areas of the cases I don’t know and wouldn’t pretend to know. Those areas are only known by a very few in LE (and family members, private investigators, and a few insiders) and they are keeping that info guarded – like they did with the necklace. But now the case is either murder (which it appears to be) or an accident (which looks increasingly unlikely) – however, after following literally thousands of missing person cases most are not very complicated. They are usually someone known or unknown to the victim and the victim was murdered for either sex, money or revenge. It’s not usually much more complicated than that.

There are some cases that transcend the norm, but most cases seem to fall into those categories.

Absent of some sort of unknown element, it’s probable that revenge and money can be eliminated from the list of motives.

Also, absent of some sort of diabolical spree or serial killer element or evidence – it’s unlikely that Morgan was killed to satisfy some deep burning desire in a maniacal deviate.

I guess what I am saying – I would need more evidence or input from the authorities to think this is more than a random abduction with a young lady that was in the RIGHT place at the WRONG TIME. I am open to the possibility that there could be something more here – but history tells me that a crime that unwinds like this one has – is usually a random horrible event that we all wish we could turn back the hands of time.

One last point – in a conspiracy, meaning two or more people conspire to launch a criminal endeavor – the police can usually find something that leads them to one of the perps. I feel this is a lone killer, and he’s been very lucky to have not been caught so far.

I’m not sure there is much more here than one very unlucky young lady (I am so sorry that she lost her life) who encountered a horrible individual. I would be open to hearing about some party theory if the police think it leads that way. At this point, it seems kinda open and closed for me right now. And the motive is sex. Sorry to say.

Young lady left concert, for reasons still unknown, hitch hiked, encountered a terrible killer, and very unfortunately has lost her life.

Blink merci cheri one more time for keeping Morgan front and center until she could be brought home . oh I feel so sad for her parents and brother , I am so glad she will not be out there all alone anymore, I personally pray to two saints that deliver miracles and I have prayed for Morgan to be found I will not stop praying for who ever did this to be found , everyday till they are found .

I do hope Morgan knew at the end that she deserved none of this, that it was not her fault. If not, I hope that she knows it now.

As so many pieces come together, I hope this moves quickly for the Harringtons’ sake.

  34. Elizabeth says:

Just reeling from todays discovery of our beautiful Morgan. Definitely “Gone too soon”. I always had hope that one day Morgan would come strolling in with a long story of what happened and we would all smile. No smiled today only tears for what could have been.

I have been reading the posts and really am confused. If the Bass family has lived and farmed there for 30 years then how could it be a party house? Mr. Bass just does not look like a party animal to me.

My next thought is this and I have not seen it posted so I thought I would put it out there.

Morgan disappeared on Oct. 17 but that doesn’t mean her body was placed at the Farm at that time. Could have been up to a week later.
    I’m just saying…

  35. suz says:

Chad, that purse is a problem, as is her exit from jpj, unless both are intoxication-related; she left the show because she was really effed up, and left her purse behind for the same reason.

I wonder if we will ever know.

  36. suz says:

holy cow, mary, that’s awful. i’m glad you survived. yipes. that is scary. i hope my post wasn’t too painful for you. you ok?

  37. J2K says:

    Chad -
Team Goblet ’til the end. I wouldn’t want to be up pondering the unthinkable with anyone else.

    suz -
Ah. I missed where it was noted barbed wire surrounded the Anchorage Farm property from the Chopin Drive side. (Direct me?) That would probably make an approach from that side of the property (circa pond) impossible. So, if true, there was only two ways to get to that spot: driving to the end of Anchorage Farm Road – which ends in front of a house (the unoccupied/rentable one?); or, the road that appears before one would reach Anchorage Farm Road if heading south on 29. It’s not named on the maps I’m looking at, and it too goes right past a house, but it continue further, dead-ending in proximity of the spot her body was found.

Also, re: “j2k, pretty cold night to want to play near a pond. Either way, don’t forget to figure barbed wire fences around the edges of your puzzle. We gotta’ get her over a fence somehow.”

True, but it was a pretty cold night to hike across several parking lots, down a road, and hitchhike – she still did it. I didn’t intend to imply they were frolicking around the lake, btw; I meant that was the location he enticed her with/drove to – and not to play.

  38. fish says:

    Blink: please if I may…

“”You and I may disagree on this one. I think it is both. A “friend” or person known to her, and a local.”" B

B: A “friend” could be met in an instant and remembered even faster. Could Morgan have “known” him and needed his help later. She may have recognized a friendly, helpful face.

“”I am of the opinion that Morgan walked to this location and met her end there. This is a murder case. B”"

B: One could guess that maybe family should be looking at one’s boots! I don’t mean Morgan’s! Maybe mercy would be shown upon them during a murder trial?

“”And who walks someone to a remote hayfield?
Someone who want to control events, best chance of hiding her. B”"

B: I’ll tell you who! One who was initially turned down? Had a chip on his shoulder! A controlling personality? Maybe. He should tell us! Just asking!

    “”Unwillingly B”"

B: Trauma to her body would more than imply she was not going there and fought to the end. As will all of us. He probably should go ahead and turn himself in!!!

    ”Sigh. Second Sigh.Yes, I would agree “marched”.B”"

Blink: I do not know if even I can handle this visual! Makes me sick to my stomach! There is no words to describe the sickness and horror of this individual!! But, I do not believe he is “crazy”!

“”Some day, I hope to articulate the culmination of the end of uncertainty grief vs. Reality grief. Somehow, I feel unqualified.
I do know, that above all else, Morgan deserves to be laid to rest appropriately, regardless, that is my belief system and what drives my work.B”"

My dear Blink: I have had both. Although, the first one for a brief time. Both are intensely painful but reality grief is one that provides the comfort one needs on a dark and lonely night, when one is in the shower; sobbing uncontrollably, when one cries into their pillow; not wanting anyone to hear or even when you are holding your own children in your arms. You have the help guiding you from above. You know where they are and you have laid them to rest, as you say, appropriately. You have the physical peace of mind that one needs.

The Harrington’s will have this peace and then they will go on and seek justice because that is one way of helping with the lifelong grief that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Justice will help bring an open wound slightly shut but never fully healed.

Blink: Thank God that you are ‘driving’ right now! Thank God for your guidance and insight. I can never repay you for what you do on behalf of the victims everywhere. I wish I could start. Hugs to your kids too!

Observer: I hope that you read my previous post, on other thread. I meant every word!!!

Blink? If Morgan was not HH and if she did not walk from JPJ she willingly got into a car with someone or she was abducted from the bridge and brought to the farm for the purpose of killing her. When was her card used to purchase or try to purchase something? Why would an abductor murderer return Morgan’s purse to the lot?”"

“”To imply she was abducted. B”"

Crafty, yes! Smart, no! Plus, time is running out for him! I gotta believe that deep down in my heart!

But tell me. When would he have brought that purse back?!!

Same night…within hours! Mom3.0, maybe his rage got the better of him and killing her was what he thought he needed to do as he left himself without a choice and needed to get back? in a hurry?

Could this really be someone the friends had knowledge of? Even if for a short time. I would be outta my mind! He walked her out there?
    OH My Lord In Heaven!!
Maybe they bought into the saying…
“Keep your friends, close and your Enemies, closer! Maybe that is why there was no fear. They know of him and keep him at their distance.

Very Kind, thank you. Too broad a question, I feel at this point everyone knows who is responsible, and an arrest is imminent.
    B

Blink: Are you throwing out the sightings of Morgan? I may not.

  39. Mandy says:

The lack of purse with Morgan leads me to suspect she knew her killer. And he/they dumped it in an attempt to make it seem like she was hastily taken by a stranger. But a stranger would have left the camera…

I should have directed the first comment in my last post to Chad *and* you (and fish and sky and suz and wpg and all the Blinking Blinkers on-deck).
Together, we’re all going to see this through to a conclusion, and raise our goblets from the desktops to the heavens; not in celebration when swift, searing justice is served; nor in vengeance; but to the closure of this maddening tragedy, and to eventual peace for her family — as well as to the special union this painful ordeal has cemented between those here who saw it through to the end.

    *clink*

Scoot over J2K, I am “that friend”, lol, no key retrieval necessary.

I reserve this late hour to “feel it”. I knew this morning it was our elusive-not- by-choice, Morgan.

I will never- not feel that punch in my gut. I am hard wired for it.

That anxiety/ogida combo that wants to produce tears, only to be “stuffed down” to work through the information and bring it to bear in a memorial and respectful way takes over. For a while.

I recall my fave picture of our sunny blue-eyed blonde, before she was so other wordly beautiful. I have never and will never post it.

She was cut down. She knew she was headed to her death shortly before it. How dare he?

There is no merit badge for Hayfield Killings, unless of course you consider prison,*in kind*.

You are a fly on the paper now, was it worth it?

What else? The parents of missing daughters/sons who have not had the *fortune* of recovering their babies get to have more nightmares tonight for the privilege.

I cannot articulate in a way that may not offend others how much the indignity of this child laying in a hayfield galls me to the core. So- I guess hi-ho, hi-ho it’s off to work we go.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Thank you for helping us, you bravest beauty.

CHAD! Got me thinking! Is it possible that Morgan was able to get a call off thus search on side of RT 64, a while back? Maybe? What if she did and then he realized the battery needed to go but he takes the purse back to dump it and I mean literally, dump it. Minus the battery!

  42. Observer says:

Chad: Rest assured that I am here with you tonight, and will remain with you and all the other caring posters here. Your words about the lillies were beautiful, and your rosary well-placed this evening.

Roageo: Like you, none of us will rest until Morgan’s assailant is found and brought to justice. And while we’re all most anxious, it helps to remember that Lady Justice has the patience of Job.

Lovely: You said it so very well: “To all young girls everywhere – the gift Morgan is giving is caution, fear, safety, alertness, and most importantly, respect for ones self. “Friending” tons of people on Facebook and posting pictures of yourself hanging out with random older dudes, is putting yourself in compromising situations. They are not your “Friend”. Be alert, be aware, and always be afraid.

    Please do, Observer.
    B

And finally, to Morgan and the Harringtons – may you be reunited again, and may your family be whole and peaceful.”

J2K: As always, you are remarkable. If you are not already, you should be an investigative reporter focused specifically on the crime watch. Your obvious talent could prove enormously useful.

Tomorrow morning I have a meeting across Grounds that will take me across the Copeley Rd. bridge. As I cross over that bridge I will carry with me the collective thoughts, prayers, and caring of the readers here.

  43. fish says:

J2K… or, Morgan recognizing him from high school years and he is gettin’ off work and well, she sees safety in familarity. He offers her ride back to Harrisonburg, well, because he is going that way. Maybe he doesn’t tell her not all the way and he detours home? Has he slipped through the cracks’ of our criminal justice system?
Maybe, but not gonna’ this time.

  44. skyler says:

2 things: I only caught snippets of info before I got off from work — but for some reason there were “landscapers” on Mr. Bass’s farm this AM — I couldn’t figure out who they were or why they were there — the news quoted one of them as stating where Morgan was —

Also, at the conclusion of the 5 PM “presser” — Ms. Geller stated that the crime scene is on private property and VSP was making a stern statement that any media caught trespassing on the property would be either charged or arrested (can’t remember the exact term) for trespassing

I can’t sleep, so was reading old posts, etc. I think I just needed to be near everyone —

This is inappropriate, but it will make you laugh — Morgan loved animals and loved to laugh —

I have a possum — that was probably born in the spring — that sleeps at night on my front porch under my rocking chair (that I painted bright turquoise last spring on some flight of fancy) — it probably has been sleeping on the porch way before I came. My 2 cats have congregated in the bedroom in avoidance of “the dog” — one thinks she is “The Queen” — there is a pillow on the bed that is “The Throne” — the cats battle over who gets “The Thrown”. The bedroom window was cracked and neither cat was budging off “The Throne”

the dog is antsy, so I tell my kid to let her out to pee — he opens the door and sees the ferocious possum on the porch — ‘There’s a possum on the porch’ “Is it small?” “No, it’s huge — an adult — BIG as in B-I-G”

he gets his “plastic bb gun” — they’re called air soft — it was in one of the boxes I was digging thru — it has no “bb’s” he starts shooting at the now lion-sized possum and making all this racket and it’s 11 o’clock at night in the country — baby possum trying to play dead on the porch — boy thinking he’s Dan’el Boone — ugh — ha

I do live in the Twilight Zone : )

    but …

when I was thinking of animals I thought of this — it has not been the first time I had this thought —

animal predation “may” have moved the remains — plus — we have had bitter cold weather and over 2 feet of snow in that area — I still have snow on the sides of the road where the snow plow came thru a month ago — may explain why no buzzards in the area —

I hate using those words connected to Morgan —

I still believe, however she got to that location, that girl was running for her life — I believe she realized what was happening and she tried to get away —

Chad, I believe, asked what we could do for Morgan —

I believe the greatest thing we can do for Morgan is to live life well — to be gentle when someone pisses us off — instead of flipping someone the bird for pulling out in front of you, you give ‘em a smile and a wave —

Put on our favorite music and dance whether or not anyone is looking —

Blink, you’re going to have to don the slutslipper and Copa across the living room w/ the wee man and Blinkette, Mr. Blink and your mom …

Express yourself artistically, even if someone else thinks it’s rotten —

Go to the dollar store, pick up a couple of ‘em and hoola hoop in the front yard —

This is one of the hardest ones of all — we have to forgive “the friends” for being self-absorbed, self-centered brats — they are the ones who have to live for the remainder of their lives w/ the photos from the b-day and Halloween party —

I’m prepared to do that. Just not today.

I am coming to Charlottesville for two reasons —

One, on the way to Roanoke to whatever Memorial service the Harringtons have for Morgan — the second, at the trial of this sniffling little coward who took her life —

If anyone would like to meet in Charlottesville and we go together to Roanoke — I’d love that — Blink, you have my permission to give my email privately to anyone who’d like to gather and drive up together.

I will honor the Harringtons by “not” wearing a miniskirt — : )

I think if someone wants to do something monetarily — a donation to the African orphan organization that Gil works for and Morgan volunteered for many years w/ would be wonderful.

And lastly, I will leave you with this —

Morgan did not die alone in that field. She was surrounded by angels and the Holy Spirit who took her to safety.

“So why didn’t they “save” her”? is a legit question. I don’t have the answer for that. I just know this one solitary life has touched thousands or more of lives around the world. She has touched ours. She has touched mine.

    I don’t know you — but I love you all —

sleep well, and together we will soldier on to Phase 2.

God Bless you, Blink — but I’m changing your and your crew’s name to Wings of Love and the Cherubs !

    O sky.

    Heart You. Lol

Observer I am not one of the “regulars” but I always look for your posts and try to savor them. I am glad you are back. I missed you.

Blink: Morgan was hunted just not by what we all think of as a hunter. Semantics!

Just a comment about walking out in that field. Morgan was wearing dress boots with a miniskirt. She would not have walked out in a grassy, wet, poo-filled field of her own volition. If she was drugged or inebriated, she would not have made it very far at all on level and lighted terrain. Walking a victim out to a secluded place is common for killers. David Snow (Canadian serial killer) abducted one woman from a town store and marched her across a bridge into the woods where he attacked her for several days. He also had another victim tied up nearby. You would think that a woman would refuse to be walked to a remote area, but terrified people do a lot of things in the hope that their captors will spare their lives. I don’t think Morgan was high or drunk. I think she was terrified.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of this sweet girl-

    *** Candace,

You seem familiar with the area, the Anchorage Farm and it’s proximity to Red Hill Rd.

Would you mind addressing the following, please?

I believe on Nancy Grace, this evening, a local reporter said that the fence around the property of Anchorage Farm was barbed wire. Do you know if that is true? That would certainly make a difference in an individual’s attempt to climb over it. They further stated that they had driven around the farm and by Red Hill Rd. and there were no other entrances except via the road running directly in front of the farm.

Like many of you, I had hoped that Morgan would be found alive. Her death saddens me to the core of my being while at the same time stirs up feelings of total disgust that once again we have lost a beautiful young woman. Morgan was one of the good ones…planning to be a teacher…already volunteering to help the young…such a senseless act and one that robbed us all of a caring spirit.

My prayers now shift to peace for her family and continue for wisdom and discernment for law enforcement. May all the pieces of the puzzle come together seamlessly for them now that Morgan has been found.

    I hope justice comes swiftly.
