Abemarle County, VA– On the 100 acre parcel of the over 700 acre farm owned by Nancy and David Bass where Morgan Harrington’s remains were recovered yesterday, there may be clues of the furry variety that lead to the identity of Morgan’s murderer.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source inside the investigation has told blinkoncrime.com that questions raised here regarding private deer hunting on the farm have been verified by Virginia State Police.

Anchorage Farm owners do allow some private hunting members and maintains a list of those individuals permitted to do so.

From the time Morgan disappeared and presumably ended up in the hayfield, both archery and firearm deer seasons were in full swing.

Big Brother, or in this case Uncle Buck, was watching.

Camera

Blink, what is that ugly azz thing you say?

It might be sweet Morgan’s Ruth Cooper.

The Cuddeback Scouting Camera with Video and Infared technologies from Cabelas. This is one example of tree trunk and tree stand cutting edge technology that is motion activated with high resolution images on several settings.

Not to be outdone: The Moultrie Game Spy, which you can use to watch your prey like a surveillance screen in real time.

This is another example of the varieties that were in place the night of October 17th.

Morgan was found in a field, almost smack dab in the middle of surrounding tree line’s loaded with tree stands and tree cameras.

She was found without her camera and necklace; both of which have not been located to date.

VSP has been provided the list of known hunters at Anchorage Farm, and are in the process of interviewing them.

If you have hunted the property this season, VSP would appreciate a call:(434) 352-3467

Not sure if this was discussed already just wanted to bring it over …

On the last thread Blink you said:

“There is no merit badge for Hayfield Killings, unless of course you consider prison,*in kind*.

You are a fly on the paper now, was it worth it?”

I am so intrigued by your choice of words as you strike me as a writer who chooses her words very carefully, choosing your tools or weapons, whatever the case may be.

merit badge … boy scout .. do-gooder … someone wanting recognition .. desire to be seen as a good guy … desire to be helpful.

In kind, payment in kind, charity …

Fly on the paper .. caught, trapped in the open, vulnerable.

I hope and pray an arrest is made soon and the bastard is behind bars.

  2. TallyHo says:

Blink – also should have added that Mr. TallyHo is working at home today and is avalaible to answer any questions about the cameras that anyone here might have. I just asked him about how often one has to change the batteries in those game cameras, because it seems like he is always heading out to do that. He said it depends on how many pictures have been taken and the temperature. Cold weather saps the batteries faster.

I do, I do!! Please ask Mr. TallyHo if he knows if Abemarle County allows Sunday hunting for regular Archery.

Thanks Blink and Red Hill local for clarifying some questions I had about the land.
This clears up A LOT actually! Wow!

So now I wonder if anyone has seen the footage from these camera’s yet.
The BG has to know the land well enough to know the layout but not so well enough to know about the camera’s OR does know the land extremely well and monitors these camera’s.

I cannot wait for the news of an arrest.

I can only confirm that VSP is onsite again today.

  4. Susan says:

RE#74–Blink can you confirm whether this party was ever named? It seems pretty significant; otherwise an error?
“Another concert-goer claims he was outside the building, waiting for late-arriving friends to meet him around 9 PM when he heard a “commotion” outside one of the venue’s entrances.

“It was some shouting,” the man, who asked not to be identified, says. Moments later, the young woman, who matched Harrington’s description, approached him, and put her arm out, bent, as though to invite him to link his arm with her. She said to him, “‘Let’s go.’ It seemed somewhat aggressive.” The eyewitness says Harrington’s behavior seemed “unusual” and when he told her he had to stay and wait for his friends, he claims the woman cursed at him and kicked him.

“It wasn’t that hard,” he says of the kick, but it was disturbing enough that he immediately called his girlfriend to relate the encounter. “She told me I should call the police and report her. Now I wish I had.” He reported the matter to police as soon as he learned of the disappearance.”

    Not named to my knowledge.

  5. sue says:

Thank you, Red Hill for your first hand information. I agree, young man or men who frequented the area. Possibly students renting. Possibly they attended the concert, or went to see Lamb of God.

The fire strikes me as related, but I cannot rationalize it with the timing of the discovery of the body. Perhaps there were some loud rumblings and maybe even tips about her location prior to the actual discovery.

    Maybe pure coincidence.

I am not ready to rule this out either. Especially because I think the serious warm up and torrential rains we had played a part in her moving out of the tree line and into the field. That was Sunday 1/24, but worse Monday 1/25.

  6. Carol says:

HOLY CRAP!! I almost can’t believe what I just read!! Cameras on trees? With possible pictures of how she got in the field? It’s almost too good to be true. CROSSING my fingers that they reveal what we all desperately want to know…how she got to that remote part of the farm/field.

Regarding her camera – I think it fell out of her pocketbook with the phone and the battery. But the necklace? No, that didn’t fall off her neck – if she wasn’t found with it on, I definitely lean to the BG taking it.

Morgan, Morgan, Morgan – we’ll get him!!!

  7. mamy says:

OMG, way to go Blink! I have been literally heartbroken the last couple of days, but now I feel hope that the BG has been caught on camera. Skyler I will be attending the memorial service with my daughter, however, i would love to meet you in person. Although I rarely posted I read most everything from day 1.I too feel a bond with so many on this site and have been awed by your incredible sleuthing/writing skills.I have never followed a missing persons case or read online blogs, however, for personal reasons Morgans disappearance hit close to home.May God Bless the Harrington family,Morgans friends,LE, and all of you wonderful sleuthers! Blink I think you are the sh*t, as the young people would say.

  8. wow says:

@ Red Hill Local: what about entry from the Blandemar Farm Drive to the site where the body was found? If you look on google maps it shows a large green building with maybe a paved area for parking on Blandemar Farm Drive. This map (which could be old) shows no other buildings/houses around.

Could someone have taken a 4 wheeler through the field from the green building area and then following the treeline there on the left, cross what looks like a brushy area and the on to the site where the body was found? just wondering. Maybe the brushy area dividing that field is impossible to navigate. Just thot you might know. . . .

Just an occams observation, You can come in the front entrance, turn left up the tree line and never be seen by the house.

YIPPIE! I hope and pray this SOB gave a BIG SMILE! Someone wrote the other day about “how someone will be acting funny today…..Bet your as* they gonna be acting way funny today knowing they just might be on that CANDID CAMERA! Happy days Happy days! can we say RUT RO?
I also found it strange her friends kissed her. One usually does that when someone is LEAVING! I am not all that sure about these friends and their lack of infomation here. Who or why would they protect the information? kinda late now….

Anyway…….high 5 to the farmer for having the cameras in place. I am sure we all pray its all there……….and someone is truly gonna have a bad day!

  10. redly says:

As a student I lived for two years in a similar house by the side of a mountain just a few miles away. The adjoining landowner — the Colonel — similarly allowed hunting to a select group of people. I had absolutely no idea these cameras existed. Praying for a break here. If I were the BG, I would flee today — run for it you bastard and see how long you can last.

Great info Blink (and redhill too).

  11. fish says:

Teri: I believe one of three ways she got outside:

One) Morgan got a phone call to try and resolve something. Crazy X!

Two) Morgan was escorted by a “friend” for help. Which leads me to…

Three) Morgan was and I will quote a person who was there and has great information as to the surroundings…

Jane Velez Mitchell Interview given on Tuesday, Ocotber 20, 2009

“TOWNSEND: You know, I mean, we were all kind of, sort of pushed through and kind of like to get where we were going. I mean, everyone kind of — had a bit of anxiety to them, you know, trying to push through. And kind of get to whatever part of the arena that they were trying to get to.”

    Maybe just Maybe, (J2K)!!

Morgan was “PUSHED THROUGH” and then out, accidently. That is why there would be no warning to public.
So my number one is debunked. No cell record of a call.
My number two is also shot to hell…no friend came and helped her.

*Which leads my to the only reason she is now outside…she was pushed accidently out with a surging beer crowd?

I would like to ask Wayne, if people were really shoulder to shoulder, where Morgan could have been pushed out.
Wayne, hopefully you will be able to give us a clearer picture! Thanks in advance!

Blink, I too, believe that Lt. Rader, should at least, let the parents and community members of Cville and UVA know if there is a security risk here. I do not know how he would go about that though, I don’t think that they even know how Morgan may have ended up outside.

Hopefully, the noose is getting a little tight around someone’s neck! Don’t VSP have One-Hour Photo!!

  12. janetoo says:

Dear blink and all who work so very hard in finding justice for those who cannot speak for themselves…………All of you should be very proud in what you’re doing, I know there are angels all around and I know that those involved in the root of this site are truly angels on earth.

  13. suz says:

Teri, yup, it’s still the $64,000 question, isn’t it? Why DID Morgan leave the arena?

And if the friends do know who she was meeting, why isn’t that guy in custody already, or taken in for questioning–esp. now that her body has turned up?

And if the friends don’t know, the security guards surely do as she HAD to have given them a story when she tried to get back in.

  14. Rob says:

The “kickee” always had my interest also. It just seemed odd that he called his girlfriend (IIRC) to relay what occurred. Like I have said, I’ve been to Metallica concerts and lots and lots of other metal bands, I think I have seen my share of “odd behavior” at these events… so I’m not sure that would be anything so outlandish that I would call someone and make a huge production out of it. It seemed like a way to explain away an injury and an encounter with Morgan to me – but who knows.

In regards to the camera and necklace – does anyone know if there is an inventory of found personal items? I’m sure the police know – I was wondering if anyone here knows. I can understand taking the necklace as a “trophy”, however, I think there would be an item or two that a sexual predator would definitely take. (tries to say that delicately).

One thing that strikes me about the “kickee” – the police usually talk to the perpetrator within 72 hours of a crime, even if they have not identified that person yet…. so I just wonder.

I have been hinky on kickee from day one, my sources within LE tell me he never spoke to them.

If you are talking about the infamous “kickee”, I would be very interested to know what you have found.

The links didn’t work for me either. I found a different site/link for the second item Katesro mentions. Try this:

Thanks Lizzy. I saw the other postings and was pleased to learn the information I cited was inaccurate. I truly hope these cameras are the downfall for the perp(s).

  19. doug says:

Maybe granny can partially id EH. Age, height, build, etc.

Even if the cameras cannot id the BG, hopefully they will pick up something that will timestamp the placement, of which the BG may not have an alibi for. Hopefully a vehicle that can be linked, or even a license plate would be grand. That reflective material can be read at great distances.

Blink, not that they need to be but, can the FBI become involved as this property is listed as “Historic”. I do not know, just thinkin’ out loud again. I was wondering if the VSP could use the superior investigative resources that the FBI possess. I do know the state could request help.

Also, if they do not have enough to question him then can they pull him in for trespassing on “National Register of Historic Places”!?!

Silly, I know but I have been grasping for the last six weeks! You, all of people, know that about me!! Thanks for listening to while I’m on the crazy train!!

Odd behavior leading up to and after October 17th. Someone found those links to a David H Bass in Washington DC. Who is 44 years old. Is he related to the farmer David H Bass of Charlottesville, 70 years old? If so, could the 44 yr old be our kickee?

  24. ode says:

It’s my birthday. What could be better than a big old ” Gottcha Bad Guy”. I will make that my wish when I blow out all of the candles and there are alot of them.

  25. suz says:

It’s really hard to tell the lay of the land from the aerial photos, but when I look at overhead shots of the crime scene processing where they have the little tents and tables set up, and a big grid in the dirt, it makes me think the poor gal was there for awhile and didn’t wash down from anywhere. I mean, it’s hard to tell but you see people standing there and they don’t look like they are on a steep hill or embankment. Maybe the treeline is up on an embankment—not sure. And I don’t think animals would have dragged the entire body down there. So if she was all there pretty much in one spot, I’m going to hazard a guess as to that is where she was left or killed.

  26. Steady says:

Just a couple of thoughts having pondered some of this a little more:

I assume from reviewing various Google Map images and reading about adjacent sub divisions that there has been some fairly recent (and significant) construction in the area. Could workers on those construction projects have “explored” the Bass’ farm, perhaps snuck in a little fishing or be scouting out a poaching area, and become familiar with the area? They would tend to be younger, fit, drive trucks – thus have the means to move a body. They would also know of alternative means of entrance to the property.

Also, somewhere on various blogs I thought there was some mention of the possibility of someone having scratches on their body which – at the time – someone felt might be evidence of a struggle. If such a person exists, it could also be evidence of a treck through a wooded area on a dark night.

  27. DWA says:

Trying to put myself in Morgan’s shoes. As a young girl I only drank very rarely. I have been to a function or two of this nature and the drinking snuck up on me so to speak (Where is the nearest bathroom? I am going to be sick). I remember a female anquantance (first time I had ever met her, she was a friend of a friend) helping me to get “fresh, cool air”. In my mind I can invision an aquantance (male) “helping” Morgan get fresh air. This is where I imagine her friend kissing her before she left her as to say…”sorry you feel bad, I don’t want to miss the concert….so and so will take care of you…feel better).

    Blink,

Courtenay Stuart, who wrote The Hook article, never responded to you on how she came to have contact with this 44yearold in order to quote him.
If I recall, you weren’t inquiring as to his name, just on how she was able to quote him.

Not saying this is the case, but having worked for a major newspaper for a time, I know writers will often get input, opinions, and quotes from colleagues, friends, friends of friends, etc., and will not refer by name, but as, for example, “one gentleman says he always carries a flashlight” or “one woman says she oftens etc., etc.”

  29. In Memory of Gini says:

This camera info is a wonderful blessing! Just a suggestion, when they find the BG, he/she is released on this farm and is hunted by all those who have shed 1 tear for Morgan and others like her. I know that is terrible to say, but he/she deserves to know terror and fear…

  30. bob-dog says:

Thank you, blink, thank you! This piece of news made me do a happy dance last night. You?

How sweetly ironic if this sob’s actions are digitally recorded. Should certainly help the prosecutor.

You betcha. I have even got some tree stand locations- VSP is out there as we speak.

  31. Nen says:

I came across this site yesterday and have found it hard not to read through all the info throughout the pages. Great work by all here. Sorry if this has already been discussed/mentioned but if it was a person familiar with the property or were friends or friendly with the people living there wouldn’t they quite possibly know of the cameras? Is there a way to get into the cameras if you aren’t the owner of them? If it was someone familiar then they wouldn’t really have any reason to conceal her in any way becaue I believe the owner mention that he only went out there a few times a year? So the person responsible would maybe thing all DNA or anything linking him to Morgan’s death would be long erased. Hopefully he’ll be sweating bullets now and be caught sooner rather than later.

  32. bob-dog says:

“We will move on, we will find a way to be a family of three,” Gil Harrington said, addressing television news crews. “You all have these tripods and they are not as stable as a table, but we can make a tripod work. We don’t know how yet, but we will figure it out.”

Gil Harrington must be one of the most eloquent and articulate people on earth.

B – sorry but we are not in Virginia. He has no idea about VA – but our state has no such Sunday restrictions.

  37. Teri says:

    Fish –

I just don’t think she was pushed outside. Doesn’t make sense to me. There would be security around those doors – and wouldn’t be allowing for the kids to be getting pushed out. Sounds to chaotic to me.

Sue – I think you are right. The word is – is that she did try to get back in. She must have told securtiy why she ended up outside to begin with. Why are THEY talking?

Or – why is LE NOT giving out this info? It MUST be tied be a BG. There would be no other reason to keep the cap on this. Would there?

Why is this piece such a MYSTERY?

Who is trying to hide what??

I think the answer to this question is KEY.

  38. Teri says:

Blink – even though I know you can’t talk about it:

Are your inside sources giving you any kind of reasonable explanation as to why she ended up outside? Is there any clear confirmation of the reason she went out of that building???

I will answer you this way and it will be my only comment on it: I believe they think they know.

  39. lizzy says:

David H. Bass (flight disruptee) was charged on 10/15/09 and had another court appearance on 10/27/09. Nothing is impossible, of course, but I think it is entirely unrelated, and the timing of the current headlines is purely coincidental.

Some brief research indicates that there are over 80 men with the name David Bass in VA.

BUT, WTH is the kickee? I can see it as a cover, but I also can see it as an indication that Morgan did not want to be alone even as she first left the arena.

  40. GnM says:

This may be a stupid thought … but I had. I wonder if her cell phone battery was recovered with her body.

  41. Slowroller says:

Great work Blink…always read, rarely post…

    RE: kickee

his story would provide two things…

    1. a ready made explanation for DNA transfer from Morgan(perhaps she scratched him also?? therefore that is why we will find his DNA under her nails)
    2. as we already know, perps like to inject themselves into their own investigations, this would be a preemptive, definitely premeditated way of doing that…how “fun” would it be for this guy to wait and watch to see if and when it would lead back to him so he could “implement” scenario #1…??

**aside**–i feel that i have read every thread pretty thoroughly, did i miss if and when anyone has confirmed being the “other party” involved in this verbal altercation with this woman that matched Morgan’s description?? Blink?

Not familiar with what your referring to-

    He. Is not. Kickee.

… and he *is* facing federal charges for being a drunk jacka*s on an airplane, so let’s not pile on to his lengthy Google-search woes.

    LMAO.

ATWMP. O how I needed that. Thank You Thank You.
    B

  44. Ragdoll says:

If Mr. Bass owns an ATV or something of that nature, is it possible the perp accessed his equipment? If he knows the area that well, it is possible he knows where Mr. Bass keeps keys; where he keeps them; if he keeps them locked, etc. I’d be curious to know if VSP would check these vehicles for prints and/or DNA?

    Just thinkin.

  45. lizzy says:

J2K, I’m not worried about David Bass’s Google-search woes. There are hundreds of peeps named David Bass in the country, with quite a concentration in the extended beltway area. I agree, however, that we don’t need to waste time on that train.

OT diversion: Myself (I didn’t change my name when we married), my husband, and each of our children are the ONLY people in the entire country with our combinations of (correctly-spelled) first and last names. No middle initials needed to differentiate. What are the odds that we ended up together, lol? And we didn’t try to accomplish that for our children either; it just happened. But it is REALLY hard to get something buried in google in that situation. REALLY.

OK, back on topic, will the real KICKEE please stand up?????

  46. Slowroller says:

“Not familiar with what your referring to-
    B”

this “kickee” says he witnessed a “verbal altercation” involving a woman matching Morgan’s description…then he had the “kicking incident” with said woman after rejecting her advances…

has anyone come forward claiming to be the one(s) involved in the verbal that the “kickee” witnessed?? are we to presume that this “altercation” was her attempt to “get back in”, so the other party would be JPA security??

    yes, ticket window person.
    B

  47. NoseyRosey says:

Amazing! One thing though makes me wonder if this BG is a hunter at all is the fact that he didn’t realize the cameras were there. If you hunt you know these cameras are to a hunter what video games are to teens. It is like Christmas every time my hubby and his hunting buddies pull out the memory cards and compare pictures then email them to everyone they know.
Why wouldn’t they have noticed something hinky when they downloaded the pics and saw a girl on there- at the very least alerted the land owner that someone may be on his property illegally at an odd time? I hope this camera is the secret weapon it seems to be.

I want to be clear, Mr. Blink is an avid hunter ( we dated 6 months before I knew, not my thing, but I support it fully) I am suggesting that the hunters of this property may have imagery that they did not know was relative until January 26th, not that one is responsible. I am enthused that those gentleman may be able to help catch Morgan’s killer.

As deer season is over, it is probable that those cameras have been removed by now. That said, the tree stands probably are not if they are regular members and I am told they definitely are.

    B

  48. NoseyRosey says:

Sorry- I got side tracked- what I am wondering is if the pictures have been viewed at all before the VSP retrieved them.

  49. Slowroller says:

sooooo, has this “ticket window person” been interviewed??

i know these questions do not make me a pioneer here, but i havent seen them asked in a while, so TIA Blink!!
