Abemarle County, VA– On the 100 acre parcel of the over 700 acre farm owned by Nancy and David Bass where Morgan Harrington’s remains were recovered yesterday, there may be clues of the furry variety that lead to the identity of Morgan’s murderer.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source inside the investigation has told blinkoncrime.com that questions raised here regarding private deer hunting on the farm have been verified by Virginia State Police.

Anchorage Farm owners do allow some private hunting members and maintains a list of those individuals permitted to do so.

From the time Morgan disappeared and presumably ended up in the hayfield, both archery and firearm deer seasons were in full swing.

Big Brother, or in this case Uncle Buck, was watching.

Blink, what is that ugly azz thing you say?

It might be sweet Morgan’s Ruth Cooper.

The Cuddeback Scouting Camera with Video and Infared technologies from Cabelas. This is one example of tree trunk and tree stand cutting edge technology that is motion activated with high resolution images on several settings.

Not to be outdone: The Moultrie Game Spy, which you can use to watch your prey like a surveillance screen in real time.

This is another example of the varieties that were in place the night of October 17th.

Morgan was found in a field, almost smack dab in the middle of surrounding tree line’s loaded with tree stands and tree cameras.

She was found without her camera and necklace; both of which have not been located to date.

VSP has been provided the list of known hunters at Anchorage Farm, and are in the process of interviewing them.

If you have hunted the property this season, VSP would appreciate a call:(434) 352-3467

  12. MsL says:

I’ve seen a few comments here about Willy Morris. Please keep his family in mind before making any speculations. From all that I have heard, Mr. Morris was somewhat unorthodox, but he took a county that was a bit of a joke with regard to respect for the law and helped make it a good place to live. Many Charlottesville residents have relocated to Greene County because of our high taxes and land values. I don’t believe this happened much before Willy Morris. To the best of my knowledge, the current sheriff is also doing a very good job. I know this is OT with regard to Morgan, but since he has been mentioned here, with a link to one article that probably was a low point in his law enforcement career, maybe a high point should be mentioned. Got his message across I am sure, but also a bit humorous. When he didn’t get funding from the Board of Supervisors for drug enforcement, he held a bake sale. Since this news just broke, the story is short but http://www.readthehook.com has a report about “Sheriff Willy.” In the coming hours there are sure to be some negative comments from people who ran afoul of him when he was sheriff, but the few comments appearing now show how respected this man was for the work he performed for Greene County. Again, I am sorry to stray from Morgan’s story, but I felt I wanted to make a few comments about this man and what he meant to one of our neighboring counties.

WARNING- We don’t bash the deceased here. We are well aware of the possible connections by family associations or other. It does need to be run down, but there are people associated with this case that are the “good guys” that have great respect for his albeit unorthodox ways. I would ask we all respect the grief his family is carrying today.

B – My comment about his steroid use appears to have been just rumor. He dropped off his 89 y/o mother this morning, went to the bank, withdrew enough to cover burial, typed up a note, triggered the alarm that would alert the sheriffs office, then drove to the barn and shot himself. He had been really bad problems with hearing/inner ear or whatever, had lost 50-60 lbs in the last few months and was in general poor health. Regarding his ear/hearing problems, something as simple as a fan was painful.

Should I be freaked that Randy found him?

No idea, were trying to figure that out. There are alot of associations to known witnesses in this case.

With regard to Mr. Morris, I also want to add, and this will probably get me in trouble with the people of Greene and Albemarle County. Blink has said her head is about to explode. Anyone trying to research the Morris name in either county will probably have an exploding head. The only other name more common is probably Shifflett and its many spellings.

I dont think it is that, I think we stick to discussing just those connected. I do wish to apologize as my “exploding head” comment was inappropriate given the circumstances but that was not in my frame of reference at the time. I did not mean to be insensitive in any way.

I do find it odd that where Morgan was found, that actually the name of the farm “Anchorage Farm” That you can unscramble the letters and actually get Morgan and almost Harrington out of the title.

I can’t remember when it was, but there was a car pulled off on 29 a few months back that I thought was odd and I did call 911 and give my name to them and the whereabouts on 29.

I hope justice will prevail on this for you and Morgan.

  24. mitchell says:

The phrase “six months ago” means alot in our house. It was written in a suicide note from my son. The discussions on these bolgs about Morgans recent past imply alot of termoil ie the switching of schools. She voulnteered at a “mental health” clinic….
Unfortunately, my son was also familiar with this type of behavior, his gig was helping homeless. He tried to die several times. one of his methoods was time released prescription drugs, he just left the house and started walking until he wanted to lay down. Lucky someone found him and he got the helocopter ride that nite.
There has been discussion here that it is possible she could have walked as far as she got. I’m not trying to be ugly or stupid, but i feel it is possible she did herself in that night.

I am sorry for your loss, but I do not believe there is a shred of evidence to indicate that.

B, Morris and Snead are both really common names around here, especially up in Greene. Looks like a lot of Townsends, too…at least associated with the fire and rescue. Morgan Harrington had an ex-boyfriend from the Roanoke/Blacksburg area.
He is a hunter with access to land.
He currently lives in the Charlottesville

I am aware of it, I cannot substantiate it.

  35. MsL says:

Blink, knowing how considerate you are, I think I can speak for most who have posted here that your comment wasn’t viewed as something inappropriate with regard to what happened in Greene County. Obviously, I didn’t, since I used the same terminology.

  36. RU Mom says:

What is being said above is what I have been thinking. And, I BLINKERS have been going to his FB page. Isn’t it odd, that he says VERY little about what has happened since Morgan was found?

  37. Chad says:

Hi all. I am trying ot put together some sense of the activity that has tranpired in the Charlottesville area in the last 24 hrs. .
The only way I can make a connection/explanation to the fire at the home located close by the farm is that perhaps the Harringtons hired a PI. Someone sensed someone getting too close?
The PI did check out the house, the friends etc, and somehow, unintentionally alerted the house renters of the snooping around, and they tried to hide the evidence., thus the fire?
I have the Proximity- too close together theory:

location: Fire, Too close to Morgans Body was found, particularily if Morgans body had been moved from one location to another.

location: Bomb: Too close to friends university. Do small cell terorrists live in Charlottesville? Perhaps.

Timing: Again, too close to Morgans remains being found. The fire, the bomb. I wonder what the stats are for a bomb being detainated, and a sheriff killing himself are within 24 hours of finding a murdered younfg womens body? Anyone? Do you thik that happens all the time when a body is found?

Sheriff Suicide: again, timing is seductive here too. Too many connections to the Morgan case to dismiss the too close timing.

I dunno know. @ red Hill thinks they are all independent coincidences.
Red Hill can you bash down my theory and tell me that they are all not connected to Morgans case? I hope you or someone will, because if these events are all related, and they very well could be. This is really getting scary for Charlottesville.
    Explanations on events being independent:
Sheriff was in very poor health.
Students living in a houe have a fireplace mishap?
I have heard nothing on the bomb.

  38. RU Mom says:

What I mean to say is that I have checked out his FB page as I am sure fellow BLINKERS have done. And, I think it is odd that he says so little about her being found?

  39. Cooper says:

Hello Everyone Ret LE/new poster here. Posted on the other thread yesterday and was wanting to make some observations.
First, great article. IMO the cameras could be quite valuable as there is a good chance the killer was not one of the hunters. Mind, all of this JIMO.
RE: #85 Blink _repost from Red Hill Local. Excellent post. This perpetrator is definitely a local. The landscape is a huge factor in finding who killed Morgan.
I say this because of the location of Morgan’s body. As I stated in the other thread. The killer has access to this piece of land and a vehicle that is capable of transporting a body through rough terrain and long distances at night. That fact should not be in dispute. It is my opinion that this killer never believed that Morgan would be found and resides (or is close to someone) that resides somewhere adjacent to the property. The geography is the most valuable tool to date in locating who could have placed the body in this remote spot. I agree with almost everything in Red Hill’s post and learned a few things as well, however I disagree with the route that the killer would take to get to the place Morgan was dumped. Point: This is a grueling trip to make under the best circumstances. At night, with the body of a dead girl in tow, the chances are that the killer is not going to want to drive down a paved road, or any road where someone could conceivably come along. No doubt, the type of vehicle that qualifies for such a task would be loud and lights would have to be used in order to complete the task at hand.
THE LESS TIME THE KILLER SPENDS OUT THERE THE BETTER.
Now that we have more accurate information on exactly where Morgan’s body was found you can look on the google satellite map and see that there are structures in the Blandemar Farm Dr and Waldemar Dr area.
Coming from that direction…THE BACK WAY…there is open fields and a clear cut path (viewing from google maps/satellite) to the area where Morgan’s body was found. If you look in the tree line to the left of where Morgan was (it is shaped like a semi-circle) there is clearly an opening that someone could get through with the correct vehicle.
Again, IMO only, this would be the better way to enter this property at night with a dead girl in tow and get to this destination.
I’m sure that the police are now focusing on any evidence left behind that shows the path the vehicle took to the scene. Considering it has been relatively undisturbed there should still be signs of entry. Broken limbs, tire tracks smashed trees and bushes among other things. I also stated on the other thread that I believe the killer could have returned to make sure she was still there as he felt this location was so safe. At this time no doubt, the killer is panicking because he knows that the body will lead right back to his front door. Police should be looking at the people that live in those structures that are closest to where the body was dumped and who lives where the evidence of the path ends.
They should look closely at anyone who has suddenly left town and make sure they get the records of all sexual offenders in the area. They not only should be looking at the people who live at the end of the path that was taken to enter and exit the site, but their neighbors, friends and relatives.
From the killer’s perspective he was too clever for his own good. This was not supposed to happen. Now that she has been found she will point her finger at him as they study the path that the vehicle took.
The police were extremely smart to keep everything under their vests. If the killer gets too scared he might flee.
The cameras are a very hopeful bonus.
All JIMO this will be solved soon.

Cooper, My sincere welcome to you. Excellent Post and I completely agree to you. The “entry” in that semicircle caught my eye immediately.

In your theory however, we do have an issue. If Morgan was deceased when she got to the farm, this is a secondary crime scene. Where’s the first?

  42. smythe says:

The bomb at JMU is likely not related. Morgan’s friends are upperclassmen and would live off campus. I would guess if it were some sort of message “not to talk” then it would have been set off at the housing complex where these girls live. One possibility- the driver of the car was a freshman wasn’t he? He would live on campus. So round and round we go….

  43. Enquirer says:

Blink – I have enjoyed Liam’s contributions to this site, but I must pull him up on this occassion. He has been fed some incorrect information. To my knowledge there is NO ex boyfriend who fits that description.

This is a red herring unfortunately (Im not saying that Liam has mislead people on purpose, he just received some bad info).

However, I am certain that once the COD & TOD are released we will see an arrest follow very closely and this person is NOT a DIRECT associate of Morgan. The large part of the mystery was clear to LE some time ago, it is now a time of LE getting their ‘ducks in a row’

How do you feel the time of death to be an indicator of an unknown suspect?

  44. wpgmouse says:

    Cooper, hello,

May I ask why you believe Morgan had passed before she was brought to the hayfield.

  48. Cooper says:

Hi Blink, Thank you. First, I have to commend you on not letting go of this story. Had she not been found it surly would have fallen by the wayside but for your page. You never stopped reminding people. This story has impacted me as I have daughters and grand daughters. The girl, Morgan, reminded me of my own and looked like a lovely sweet child. I would return to this site to see what the latest developments were as I knew they would be here.
The primary crime scene. Yes. That is a good question, however I have no doubt there is one. Ideas are: 1) inside one of the homes that borders the property: several points here… a) the killer lives by himself in the home b) lives with his parents in the home c) lives on the property as a worker d) has access to buildings on the property that could have been the primary scene…
note: IMO if this is the case the killer is attached enough to the property to be able to use the vehicles there or perhaps owns an ATV or piece of equipment of his own.
    2) Possibly a car or a van that was used to transport Morgan from the concert. If this is the case the killer, being familiar with the area could have driven Morgan somewhere secluded, assaulted and murdered her in the vehicle and then drove home and disposed of the body.
    3) Unknown outdoor location. Same as above…took Morgan out of the car or van, assaulted and murdered her outside and then drove her back to his home or property he has access to, that is adjacent to the secondary scene.
    4) Unknown local structure. Killer could have taken her to a empty structure, assaulted and murdered Morgan, then driven back to home or property he had access to.
IMO it is more likely that the killer actually lives adjacent to the property in some capacity. I say that because of the need to have access to equipment or vehicle capable to navigate that terrain and IMO she was there so he could watch her.

    Thank you kind sir-

I agree all are possible, but I have to say, your last point, that he put her where he could watch her, tells me you think there is a personal connection, not a stranger happenstance.
    B

  49. Red Hill local says:

@Chad – Interesting thoughts about the PI, but I really think you’re trying to make too much of completely independent incidents. I am COMPLETELY new to the investigative website, and am only here because it happened in my old stomping grounds. I do know the community, county, and surrounding counties for that matter. I just really think everyone has had wayyy too much time to over-analyze “possibilities” while the killing itself was most likely a bad one-on-one situation. I tossed out all the serial killer ideas when the body was found where it was. Only, and I mean ONLY, someone familiar with the farm would have taken her/body there.

@Cooper – Good points but I’ll go back to my original thoughts. Anyone familiar with the place would have know they could drive past the rental(daughter’s) house towards the main house without raising concern. Turn left into the field at the end of the hayfield, and drive as far as you’re comfortable. I really don’t remember what the weather and rain amounts we’d had at that time, but the ground here drains well, especially on a slope. I do not remember the lay of the land at the back field but judging from the topo maps, it could be sloped enough to avoid the vehicle being visible from the Bass home. They drove as far they thought was OK, and dragged the body to the location where it was found. The field would have a gradual slope down towards the bottomland, so it would be much easier dragging downhill than up from the bottom. The Bass home is relatively new and they would never hear a vehicle with all of the windows closed and from that distance. You’re in quick and out quick. Not visible from any state road, as you would be by coming in off the bottom.

As I say, my entry into this blog was merely because of the farm. I don’t know a thing about investigative work. I’m just looking at this from a panicked college kid’s point of view, that f’ed up. I may be completely wrong. Just so they catch him, I really don’t care.
