Morgan Harrington Murder: Why Anchorage Farm?

Charlottesville, VA– Morgan Harrington, 20 year old Virginia Tech Student found murdered on Anchorage Farm January 26 2010, was put there for a reason.

It was clear from Lt. Joe Rader’s press conference on February 4 that the location of Morgan’s remains is critical to the investigation, and to the identity of the individuals responsible.

Why Anchorage Farm?

AFDistrictlessbass

David and Nancy Bass, owners of Anchorage Farm and the residential dwellings therein, own a boatload of land.

B O A T L O A D.

Mr. Bass, is also a longstanding member of the Albemarle County Zoning Appeals Board. In fact, he is the Chairman of the ACZAB since 2007, where he preceded this position at the Vice Chair since 2000.

Between 2005 and 2008, let’s agree there is a “run” on raw land in Albemarle County VA, in particular.

Like many families owning large tracts of land, there is always the dilemma of staying ahead of the zoning curve or preserving their land while paying taxes only on the residence.

Anchorage Farm, like almost 90% of surrounding vacant land, was registered in the Agricultural and Forrestal preservation program.

Location, Location, Location

TaxMap88

The forced sale of Biscuit Run due to David Breeden’s original will was a disaster to its purchasers including Hometown crooner Dave Matthews.

A $46 Million dollar purchase from the Breeden family was recently bailed out by VDOT for under $10 Million.

There are lukewarm results to Blandemar Farms in its infancy.

The fresh sale of the first-of-its-kind development marrying land preservation and *ethereal* elite* estates* known as Bundoran Farms, Bass withdraws his 654 acre contribution to the Hardware District renewal.

Mr. and Mrs. Bass re-parceled and re-deeded their land in 2007.  I have studied this tract closely; there is no doubt in my mind this land was being prepped for development with exactly the right easements for “right of way” purposes in place.

Nearly every other landowner was now in the 10 year plan with the possibility of not just one, but two significant luxury development projects on the horizon while their land is restricted from development of a “more intense use.”

Translation:

Holy Sh*t,  my land could be “not subject to further subdivision”  and worth half of what it is now in 10 years.  Gulp.

Morgan’s remains were found in parcel 41a.

Which would coincide with the 4 and 1 parts of her families creed o; I choose to take comfort in that.

Keeping up with the Jonesbrights

TaxMap87

As an example, let’s use the adjacent property tracts across Red Hill.

The Howell, Waybright, Napier and Hager Families own the largest preserved adjacent trac on Monacan, which from a plot perspective, you might argue is land-locked due to Mr. Bass ‘s re-zoning.

Now, before I get 300 posts asking if I am suggesting Morgan Harrington was murdered out of revenge of a land dispute; of course not.

I am simply saying it is possible that part of the motive of the persons responsible for Morgan’s death to place her on exactly the parcel she was, may have been a combination of comfort AND perceived payback.

I have personally worked with developers on a similar project and I have seen a man have his land value cut in half by not completing the planning process prior to  new zoning amendments AFTER granting easements through it. Utter Nightmare.

Can you elaborate? Are you saying that HE was clear in his presser that morgan was tied to the area through various bands, venues? If so, I must have missed that part.

If you are just stating that morgan was tied to the area through bands and venues can you be more specific? Did certain bands play there that Morgan was in attendance for prior to October 17th?

Make sure Blink gets to the doctor if need be…not trying to be morbid, but Natasha Richardson did not die in vain. I am more aware of the seriousness of even minor-seeming head injuries than ever before because of her.

It’s only been 6 weeks since Morgan was found. It’s so hard to wait for a resolution to her murder. I can’t imagine what it is like to be her family.

I am a polisci columnist to you people are cracking me up. My posters just yell back and forth at each other. This is like Oprah online.

I would like to know if Blink’s editors, Red?, still believe that Morgan was never at JPJ arena? Or have you changed your mind (s)?
    Thank you

To my knowledge, the 2 that are hung up on Morgan not making the arena and think her friends did her in have been removed from working on this case because their only interest was proving that theory, which Blinkster does not believe.

I have had the problem in the past in my own work with people that once they reach a conclusion, with limited facts, all their research is slanted that way, and objectivity is a must for conclusion. If not, LE would have a revolving door at the pokey.

The editors/researchers working on the case are now local. I think. If I get this wrong I may get the next concussion.

    Hey Red,
I think you’l find that BOC is like the neighbor’s kid. He is smiling, personable, outgoing, and brilliant. You like him but… he keeps asking you to check his calculus and organic chemistry homework. Welcome.

Can any of the locals tell me about the soil makeup in the area? Is it sandy, rich dirt, red clay? Every map that is shot from above shows different types of vehicle tracks. Preservation of these tracks may have occurred, depending on soil composition. I reckon LE knows where the BG went in and how he got to the dump site, based on Lt. Rader’s presser about obstacles encountered on the way in. I am curious if the vehicle tracks may have been preserved.

Also, I am curious if any possible fluid DNA may have filtered down through the sand or washed over the top of clay down to the creek bottom.

You must know her. Welcome to my world. I am supposed to bolding she IM’s me at 7am this morning. Geeze.

  8. peapod says:

I read that JPJ opened at 7:00. I also believe that Morgan was said to have excused herself to the restroom AFTER the opening bands finished. Is that right? Because she was reported outside at 8:20. If the venue didn’t even open until 7:00 I can’t imagine the opening acts finished much before 8:15. If that is the situation then a good portion of the sightings inside of the arena would have to be mistaken identity. She would have had roughly about 5-10 minutes inside of the arena before she ended up outside. Which, IMO would give Morgan just enough time to realize there was a long bathroom line, that she felt sick, and there was no way she had time to wait in the line. So she pushed her way outside.

If it took about 10 minutes to feel better, then from 8:30-8:48 she was trying to get back inside. That didn’t work so she called her friends and said she was going to text the mystery guy at JMU and see if he could come get her (hence her own ride). This would also explain why her friends hedged the next morning. They thought she had hooked up with the textee. He couldn’t come to C-Ville. Unfortunately, she was too impaired to adequately problem solve her situation and ended up hitchhiking, probably just trying to get a ride down to the Corner. BG picks her up, Morgan asks if he could stop at 7-11 (or wherever) so she could get some water. She walks inside with just her check card, giving the BG time to rifle through her purse and take the phone battery out and swipe the camera. He is either by himself or calls a friend inside of JPJ telling him to meet he and Morgan in the RV lot. Then he slips the purse outside of the car while in the RV parking lot and they take off.

I dunno. This seems like the simplest explanation.

Blink-thank you for providing a venue to allow everyone to think out loud so to speak. It is better (and cheaper) than therapy!

Ragdoll-Similar re-entry policies are in place both at UVa and VA Tech and probably all across the ACC. From what I have read, these policies seem to be the norm rather than the exception at most sports facilities in the post 9/11 era in the US. I can’t speak for Tech, but being a football attendee at UVa, the no-re-entry policy was put in place immediately after 9/11 at Scott Stadium and has remained in place since 2001. When the arena was built, the same re-entry policy was instituted. The following quotes are directly from each school’s website.

“All fans entering Cassell Coliseum regardless of age must have a valid ticket to gain admission to the arena. Once fans enter the arena, they may not exit and re-enter.”
    “There is NO re-entry.
    “There is NO re-entry.

“All fans entering Lane Stadium/Worsham Field regardless of age must have a valid ticket to gain admission to the stadium. Once fans enter the stadium, they may not exit and re-enter.”
    “There is NO re-entry.”

    @ John Paul Jones Arena-
“Exiting and reentering with the same ticket is not permitted.”
(My comments-Once a ticket has been electronically scanned, that ticket cannot be used to regain re-entry, there are no hand stamps and no wrist bands allowing re-entry. A new ticket must be purchased. Are there security people who make exceptions for friends? I have no way of knowing, but I would guess these security people would be jeopardizing their jobs if this did happen.)

“All guests entering Scott Stadium must have a valid ticket to gain admission to the stadium unless they are two years old or younger. Once guests enter the stadium, they may not exit and re-enter.”

I know this adds nothing really to solving the mystery of Morgan’s death, but I hope with other responses here, it clarifies for you why Morgan was not allowed re-entry. She could have purchased a new ticket, but it’s possible she either didn’t have funds for the purchase, or for some reason, the ticket office refused to sell her a new ticket.

word up about fambly history in cville and surrounding areas

please know that when i mention a family description or family member, i try my darnedness to avoid obvious identification for obvious reasons. there are mostly innocent people in cville. when a family is identified, it is not to malign the family name, but to illustrate how some people may be connected or may have come in contact with morgan in the past and certainly the night of the metallica concert.

it is tough to strike a balance between cryptic and obtuse. often, i am unsuccessful which necessitates a follow up explanation. blink helps guide me through the darkness that i am feeling my way through in this endeavor. there are times when i am asked to elaborate on an identification and times when i am asked to withhold even initials. so please know that i continue my research wholeheartedly with one goal and that is to help in any small way in the identification, arrest and prosecution of morgan’s killer(s).

if none of my research helps meet this goal, my wish is that it may at the very least enlighten some folks as to how free flowing our society at large can be. i do not think this is a bad thing as it exemplifies that bad guys come from every walk of life. no one person or family is immune to “growing” a criminal in their world.

    Thanks, Red!!

  13. keekee says:

another point i’d like to make is that while my research is not to force facts into some theory, it serves to rule people or connections out.

the other method to my madness involves looking deeper into possible connections with those public people who have inserted themselves into the case. these may well be cases of egos wanted 15 minutes of fame. maybe. all i know is that there are connections to morgan through other people and relatives, work and volunteer places and events, the music scene, and common college friends. this continues to interest me and there has yet to be real evidence to rule any of these individuals out.

finally, location location location and people in close proximity.

My granddaughter was kidnapped by her mother a few days ago. No amber alert or charges were brought because the SA considers this a custody issue though she has crossed multiple state lines and violated an injuction and custody order. We found out where she was yesterday thru computer sluething. I have a friend who has access to records before they become public. The mother has filed false allegations against my son and has purposely given the wrong county for the supoena to be served in hopes he will not be able to obtain knowledge of the hearing. We have already contacted the judge and informed him of the situation and will be there. Hopefully the judge will see through her deceit and we will get her back. Now I am trying to find a pro bono attorney on short notice to represent my son because he has exhausted all of our funds to date. We believe she is a socialized sociopath as was posted on here awhile back. I was able to answer yes to every question. Please wish him luck!

Suz, your cheese does not stand alone on Bass — Do I think he killed Morgan ? Absolutely not. Do I think something/someone put a bug in his ear or he had suspicions ? Youbetcha. For me, male or female, everyone is “in” — until they’re “out” –

    ****

WT still interests me — lately he has been talking about joining the military and applying for new jobs — so don’t know if he lost his job in lay-offs — which I sympathize — or quit — or being the father of a 2 y/o, they ain’t cheap, just needs a higher income — which I totatlly understand —

Did WT kill Morgan — idk — but I can’t shake the feeling he may have started all of this by offering her a beer that was laced w/ a drug — that may be totally off, and I have stated several times if I am wrong about WT, I will absolutely offer him a public apology — but in the beginning he was so concerned about this — although he has stated three different ways he learned of Morgan’s disappearance — that he started the FB page, he contacted the local news reporter who is his friend — he calls all the different rescue squads, which we’ve now learned seems everyone is related to someone — he goes on the search — he goes on Nancy Grace — he has conflicting stories about why he was not seen after LOG — he says he’s talking on the phone to a girl from NC when he sees Morgan — he says you can’t see from one section to the next, meaning his seats were in section 311, Morgan section 312, and he says he couldn’t make out faces in 312 — which is baloney — I was able to make out faces all the way across the arena floor when I was there on Feb. 19th — he comes up w/ different stories as to why he was out of contact during Metallica — he says he stopped posting on FB because it was causing problems w/ his “g/f” — doesn’t call her his fiance, although he was slated to get married in November (so why is he talking to a girl from NC in October) — then his marriage is called off and he and g/f split — he’s so broken up over it he’s saying on FB that he’s advertising for naked women to be waiting for him in his bed when he gets off from work — then they find the body he says: found a body they are sure is Morgan — but hey, let’s play video games — I played this last night; never mentions Morgan again — ever — and then he starts talking about joining the military —

Wasn’t it LE who said to look for people who are moving away from the area, acting strangely —

And now in the latest round of just freaking weird, *allegedly* an officer w/ Albemarle police is fired because they were caught having sex parked near AF — after several police officers are put on suspension after the shooting death of that kid on NY’s Day. Then add in the house fire, and Sheriff Willy’s death by suicide — it begs the question: what the heck is going on in and around C-vlle?

Please don’t misunderstand — I love love love C-vlle — if they would let me, I would gladly live in the little gardener’s house at Monticello if they’d let me sit in the garden all day and look out over the valley and Blue Ridge —

UVA is a fine university. My second wish would be to live at Monticello, but study at the astronomy and horticultural schools — Bad things seem to be happening everywhere in this country — and escalating.

I have great hope that Morgan’s death has not been in vain, and her life, cut short, has greater meaning — bringing awareness.

Lastly (thank God, huh) — SHOUT OUT TO FISH — absolutely will meet w/ you — as others in the area would love to get together — “a’sleuthing we will go –
Get my email from Blink — or, better — come over to FB — we’re holding your spot !!

Peace to all — absolute justice for Morgan — now !

  20. skyler says:

Sapphire, my Lord — get the # for your local social services and they will be able to direct you to the legal aid society —

Also, have the court appoint what’s called — you don’t need the name, but have the court appoint a lawyer for your granddaughter — that way her rights come before either parent —

    Please keep us updated

Sapphire, very sorry for your family situation. Thinking of you.

Keekee, feeling your pain. It’s h a r d to navigate these waters.

Local, on that red clay: as you well know, it dries so hard and doesn’t exactly spread out as it dries. I would think if something tracked a lot of it onto paved roads, it would be a hazard to road cyclists who use narrow tires; maybe LE was hoping a cyclist noticed a bunch of it on Red Hill Rd, ’cause they had to avoid it?

(This is a little more out there, but I still wonder if LE knew about any musicians/artists who are into cycles and hula hoops, too.)

Finally, Red, pleased to meet you. You are (nearly) as funny as dear Blink. Take good care.

Thank you, but I am much funnier

    ——————————————————————-
    Red Ranger,
In this part of the state (Charlottesville/Albemarle)it is probably 75% red clay if not an even higher percentage. As you get closer to the shore it is a little sandier but most of the state has red clay with a little layer of topsoil, unless you bring in good black soil and till it under for farming or gardening (which I doubt they would do on a cattle farm-that much dirt is expensive!). I hope this helps!

I have always questioned the fact of Morgan hitch hiking. I am certainly not an expert in this area, but I do know that the dogs do an amazing job. My question is would they hit on the smell of something that belongs to a person (say a purse) even if the person isn’t there?

  28. J2K says:

Hooooowah…busy day. Not much time to post, and I’m still trying to answer a post from Monday. (Bare wit’ me, folks.)

So here’s my last dispatch from the “fray” on the fire… for now.
(B, can I take this lollipop out yet?)

To your point from last night: “Are you aware that within the Albemalre EMS/FD archives since 2003, this is the first ‘real time’ article posted about a fire with a ‘believed’ cause, that is the subject of an INCOMPLETE incident report during an ‘Integrity in Reporting’ initiative, otherwise known as compliance?”

I don’t think the reporting/compliance initiative you’re referring to (”Access Albemarle”) has any effect on what the county’s press office does or does not post on the news page of their Web site (I hesitate to call these things “articles” – they’re “releases” of info. But anyway!) That initiative is some kind of partnership with the county and Microsoft that started several years ago (and is not yet complete – welcome to government!) “to develop an integrated local government/school business management system to improve many of the County’s key business systems.”

In a nutshell, it’s to make their Web site/intra-county-office communications and public requests for info on bids, tax stuff and operations more streamlined, effective and efficient (summarizing here from a long, boring Dec. 2009 status report on the project).

Also, you’re right about Jan. 27, 2010, being one of the few fire-status updates in the county’s news archives, if not the only one. That said, just this past October the county also publicly deemed a house-fire that occurred Oct. 30 as “accidental” the next day, without knowing the exact cause:
    *********************************************
    Saturday October 31, 2009

Firefighters spent over two hours battling a blaze Friday night into the early Saturday morning hours. Five units and 35 firefighters were needed to calm the flames. The owners of the home in Albemarle County were not home and no one was harmed. …Fire officials say that the cause of the fire is not available at this time, though it appears to be accidental.
    http://www.newsplex.com/home/headlines/67845692.html
    **************************************************

Now, also to your observation, I did not see this release on the county Web site (but I didn’t have time to look, and trust that you scoured their archives before stating that the Sutherland fire “news” was the first and only “real-time update” on the Web site), bu-u-u-u-t. If you’ll recall, the day they found MH’s remains, everyone was soon atwitter over the nearby fire – speculations lit up the comment section of all the news stories on MH, and I venture to guess that county officials were compelled to slap the “accidental” label on the fire – and place the “news” prominently on their Web site – to put out the connectivity rumors, as it were.

I’ve been too busy today to research much in this regard, but I did take a gander at some dispatch records regarding the early morning hours of Jan. 26. As I know you – and others have, too – riddle me this: The call regarding a fire on Sutherland comes in at 1:54 a.m., and multiple units respond. By 7:30 a.m. or so, they’re all “back in service” (i.e., they depart the scene). An almost identical call – as far as multiple first responders – comes in for the same address at 8:39 a.m., drawing nearly a dozen units back, which then again depart between about 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.

What was the second incident that drew as many calls at 8:40 a.m. as the one at 1:54 a.m.? Just curious.

    Lastly, my lovely B -

You responded to another poster: “I cant discount the possibility she went with a stranger, although, I do not believe that. I think Morgan was walking with 4 BIB and we need to ID them.”

Hmmmmmm! Taking a look around my specialty cheese shoppe now, ay? Welcome – please try a sample! We’re having a special on Swiss…

In all seriousness, have you gotten confirmation (or could you) from Geller that these four MIBs/DIBS/BIBs have been identified, or ever even came forth as witnesses?

My sincere thanks for your patience Madam’… I am back for as long as the warden allows, please everyone avert your eyes and maybe nobody notices.. heh heh.

I do Declare… I think she saw my WTH and raised me a WTF on the Fire Issue.

Nice. If you weren’t already Me, posting as you, that would be some fancy turnabout, Fo schizz.

While it does not prove the fire is “in”, it certainly begs the question- why are 12 units recalled to the fire scene within an hour of the discovery of Morgan’s remains?

Agreed that the piece was put out as a harried “nothing to see here..”

No dice on the 4 BiB, not discussing, although I will say I think Cville PD handled that initially?

Thanks all for the kind thoughts, I am trying to get some thoughts on here today.

    Hugs and Peace.

Should the fact that no arrests yet send us to a different direction than a RSO being involved? They must have some, if not all, DNA tests back by now and if there was a DNA match, surely an arrest would have occured by now. So, does this tell us that the DNA found on Morgan does not have a match in the system, which means no prior criminal history? And, if so, do cops need a warranty to obtain DNA samples from someone or can they call anyone in who is even a remote suspect in this case for DNA swabs?

Gojira (french band) played first — I’m thinking took the stage at 7:30; I may have that wrong — LOG played second — their set was over around 8:40 — Morgan calls from outside at 8:48, we’re told — Metallica takes the stage around 9:10 — because I spoke w/ my son around 9:00 PM — he had no difficulty hearing me in our conversation and his nose was pressed up against the “cage” that surrounded the stage — I don’t know if he would have had more difficulty hearing me if he was in the upper tiers where the vendors were and people mulling around waiting for Metallica to take the stage — we have seen a youtube video which seemed to be right before Metallica takes the stage and the crowd starts to chant: metallica metallica metallica –

The concert ended “around” 11:10 to 11:15 — it took about 30 mins. for my son to get from the floor out to my car parked in the EconoLodge parking lot — he said they held the people on the floor while they emptied out the top tiers — then the floor area was evacuated — from that, it tells me it was an orderly exit — while waiting for him, I was pretty amazed at how quickly the traffic did flow — there was a lot of police presence — when the boys finally got to the car and buckled up, I had to turn left out of EconoLodge — there’s a light right there at Massie Rd., which runs beside(parallel) to the arena — someone let me out and we were on our way w/ very little effort — we had to wait a couple clicks of the light in C-vlle, but nothing outlandish —

Observer is correct — I was amazed at how quickly you can walk from copeley bridge to the arena — Copeley bridge is only about as long as the width of railroad tracks, if that helps you visualize it — but the thing is — the sidewalk is on the opposite side of the road if Morgan is HH’g away from the arena area — so if she were on the sidewalk, had her thumb out — she would be facing the oncoming traffic and would have to either walk around in front or behind of the car that picked her up if it was 2-door, or could have slid in behind the driver if 4-door — or — she would have to be in the lane of oncoming traffic, which is narrow — when I was there, I parked in the bank parking lot after the bridge and walked up to the bridge — there was continuous traffic, so it just doesn’t make sense to me that a car stopped in the middle of the bridge and picked her up while on the bridge — it makes more sense that the car pulled over to the right either into or near the Sun Trust parking lot — and if that’s the case, there should be security footage from Sun Trust —

Plus — I was on the copeley bridge twice between 9 PM and about 9:20 or 9:25 — I got lost — no Morgan HH’g — no anyone on that bridge —

The “only” public statement I’ve ever seen is a FB post from someone in October who stated she saw her on the Alderman Rd Bridge HH’g — Copeley turns into Alderman once it crosses Ivy Rd — but LE released a statement saying “multiple” witnesses saw her HH’g — her phone dies at 9:30, and that’s the magic timeframe for all this happening — but one of the security workers at JPJ that night has a myspace or FB post, can’t remember which, stating he interacted w/ her around 10 PM — which people seem to be discounting due to the 9:30 phone dead time — but perhaps it should be accepted or examined more closely —

Another thing that has always bugged me — by 9:30 there is no question that Metallica is on stage — I was parked at the back of the EconoLodge lot blocks away from the arena and had no trouble hearing them (I swear, my car, and I have an SUV, was actually vibrating — it sounded like a rocket getting ready to take off)– now, she only had on a tee shirt, and there have been rumblings about a jacket or coat, but nothing solid on that — but it just doesn’t seem logical to me that she’s walking around the parking lot and not listening to Metallica who she’d been waiting six months to see —

Red — sorry for the long post

hope that helps you w/ the timeframes : )

    Gil Harrington’s thoughts from March 10th, 2010

We are so fragile, raw, more fear based, which is not our typical state. We find ourselves locking up and checking up more at home. Dan gets anxious if he calls me more than 3 times and I don’t answer – afraid that I’ve been taken too. Baseline, I am sloppy about the cell phone. I leave it in the car, or at home, or don’t turn it on, or neglect to recharge it consistently. Seeing the fear in his eyes, I resolve to change my behavior.

Normally, I consider myself to be fairly strong and grounded. After Morgan was abducted and killed, I find I am not so sure of myself and easily overwhelmed. Regular stuff is more difficult. Even dropping the dog off at the vet is traumatic in a way. Ever since our girl didn’t come back, all leave-takings are pain filled.

Every single task I put my hand to reminds me of Morgan. I cook broccoli and start to reflexively put a portion aside for her. Morgan liked margarine, not butter like the rest of the family. These numerous meaningless incidentals in the course of my day invoke Morgan and pull me up short with a blast of grief and loss. It’s like ripping the scab off a wound over and over and over. Will this ever heal?

I love Barry — unfortunately, he’s got a show running in Las Vegas for awhile, so he’s not out touring, but if you ever get the chance to see him in concert, you must go — I’ve been lucky enough to see him several times and all of his concerts rank as some of the best and most entertaining I’ve ever seen — especially the “jingles” set — he started out writing jingles — “I am stuck on Band-aid brand, ’cause Band-aid’s stuck on me” ….

  35. Ragdoll, I appreciate your post. I agree with your theory about her planning to not be at the rest of the concert. She could have changed her mind after going outside, but I do think it is highly likely the initial leaving was planned. She is a smart girl and would have known about re-entry. no offense to anyone’s theories, I have gone back and forth on many myself. Just brain storming here.

Second time she has mentioned broccoli and Morgan’s pref for margarine over butter. Meaningless, as she states in the next sentence, and she just cooks a lot of broccoli? Probably. I couldn’t help noticing.

Work computer down — been back-reading trying to catch up — last post, I promise –

I keep reading, well, if there were more than one perp, someone would have cracked by now —

I did a case once where the convicted drug dealer was in jail in NC, however, the appeal was heard in the fourth district federal courthouse here in Richmond — I worked on the appeal hearing before the 4th circuit judges (not a lawyer, not employed by the BG) — the convicted dealer was the spouse of the — oh, hell — I have that brain injury and I can’t think of the word — it’s like the consulate from that south american country that imports a lot of coke — I will remember in an hour, all I can think of is Sonny Crocket from Miami Vice talking about that country, standing on the deck of his boat w/ his guard-alligator named Elvis (that, I can remember) — anyway, he told the country bumpkin distributors in NC: keep this on the QT — he lived in FL w/ his wife in the consulate — she is the one w/ diplomatic immunity, not him — anyway, the NC distributors never had access to so much money in their lives and went out and started spending like crazy and bought expensive cars and jewelry and wound up getting themselves busted by the feds in a sting and very quickly gave up the name of the main guy —

but suppose you are in a drug ring in the C-vlle area — Kristan Fox OD’d in her residence in Fluvana — she got the drugs from somewhere, and certainly possibly Richmond — but suppose you are in this ring and have been for awhile — and things are going great — you’ve got money coming in, people are keeping quiet, a nice little life — until one of your members comes in contact w/ Morgan Harrington and the idiot kills the bitch, who then reaches out to other ring members to help get rid of the body — and they do …

So who you gonna call? Are you going to call LE, ’cause even if you didn’t kill the bitch, but maybe helped hide the body, you still got a sweet life going on — plus if you squeal on the one who did it, you going down, too, as an accessory or something — and hell, he killed that bitch, he might kill your sorry azz, too –

Best just to forget about it — the cops are stupid, they don’t got jack — they’re out begging frigging boys on bicycles if they saw anything — that body has rotted out in that field under two feet of snow — there ain’t no DNA — hell, we’re home free —

Yep, just another cup of coffee and a cigarette and it’s a brand new day …

Before anyone jumps on me, I was paraphrasing why no one has come forward — I would never refer to Morgan in those terms —

But I do not see anyone giving up the goods — that same 150-grand has been out there from the beginning; it’s not worth going to prison over for the rest of your life — I don’t believe anyone is going to talk, and I don’t believe there is going to be an arrest in this case, as much as it saddens me to say that. Even if Morgan was given the “date rape” drug, the tox screen is just going to show it in her body, not how it was ingested —

This case may get a “break” if someone connected to it or has knowledge of it gets arrested in the future and uses that knowledge as a “get out of jail free” card.

    I absolutely hope I am 100 % wrong.

On February 17th @ 7:12 pm, Blink states that she fears “for the reality that it will have for so many when arrests are made. I am queazy daily at what the Harrington’s will face. I would love to be wrong.”

This particular statement has haunted me because of the word “arrests,” and also because, to me, it seems to allude to a far darker scenario in which Miss Morgan died and the number of people involved here.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To all you brilliant and compassionate Blink on Crimers: I fear I may puke on my keyboard if one more person refers to a RSO as “CUTE!” Thanks.

Saramom, you later admit that the fact that he is cute may have allowed him to get away with more over the years. I think you are dead on with this and have understood why it is logical when folks continue to call him cute. The cuteness is key to the crime. There is nothing more dangerous to a girl like Morgan than a “cute rso”….someone appealing, handsome, innocent looking.

hate to be a downer, but your police are not doing a good job at all.
there is no evidence. none to create anything other than “doubt” … reasonable doubt. didn’t a member of the local LE just get blown away by same members of LE? so many missing persons, abductions, rapes, etc in the area … why are so many people discounting LE / EMT / SECURITY?
a girl disappears from a concert with thousands of people in attendance, including her best friends and there is no video, no phone records, no hearsay, no gossip, no suspects, etc. after 6 months? gang … open your eyes. who has the gusto to take a girl from right outside a major concert event, kill her and dump her 5-10 minutes away? a RSO who lives less than a mile from the found body? who already has counts against him? so obvious, yet no evidence? now i believe whoever did this, accomplished exactly what they set out to do in order to cover up. we are looking at did she HH or not? what was she wearing? who was she with? what RSOs are in proximity? it is almost as if someone with LE experience knows exactly how this works and all that has happened on this case in 6 months is no evidence, delays, and reasonable doubt. first 48 hours are crucial statistically in a missing persons case. after that 48 hours the trail is cold and the stats are unfavorable. who are the first people to be looked at during these instances? immediately, spouse, boyfriend, and then RSOs in the area. if i were going to dump a body, i would use misdirection, search RSOs on the net in my area, and drop the body close enough to make it look like an RSO did it.
if UVA, VSP, and the FBI had anything at all worth processing, they would have had it by now and an arrest made. because an arrest has not been made after 6 months, this will not be resolved without a confession and/or without FBI as lead.

  42. cosmo says:

i disagree with observer … i don’t care how close the bridge is, a 20 year old girl at a concert she has been waiting for 6 months to see, isn’t going to voluntarily leave the arena, and not find a solution other than walking to the bridge. at night. in the cold. in the rain/mist. while everyone else is at the show, partying inside and having a ball. some put something in her drink, an ex-bf showed up and stalker her with jealousy, she od’ed and the friends are covering …
like she wouldn’t be able to party after Metalica? what was so compeling to go outside? fresh air? drugs? boy? what boy would she not tell ANYONE about? bs. this case should have been solved months ago … there is someone / something impeding the investigation. now i am moving toward conspiracy … older perps, with authority professions, local to the area, brothers/friends, with LE knowledge and how to create doubt.

Red commented that the two reseachers on B’s team who still believe M never made it inside JPJ arena, or possibly even to C’ville, have been taken off this case. Red also commented to the effect that sometimes researchers simply lose focus and objectivity in their analysis. Is it possible that lack of objectivity is keeping everything about this case focused on Anchorage Farm and sex offenders associated in and around C’ville? Is it even possible that the person who took M was not at all associated with the C’ville area? Nobody seems to think so on BOC; all discussions are focused on AF and local sex offenders — and perhaps a few others on the periphery, i.e., not convicted sex offenders. Is it even possible that a serial rapist from another geographical area came to town a day or two earlier knowing there would be a big concert at JPJ, scouted the area for ‘hiding sites’ and hoped he’d get lucky on concert night? Is it even worthy of discussion?

I don’t know this case like Blink and her team, and I do not feel I can answer this so I will flag it for her.

People, I think this is crucial to knowing the timeline and some of her activity. Add this with the LOG video and either she is there or she is not. But, I am with Blink on the cell phone thing…Did someone call her to the outer area and not necessarily outdoors but she is some how led out? This is seperate from her disapperance.

  49. C-ville says:

    Cosmo,
I don’t know what case you are talking about in regards to a member of LE being blown away by other LE? Can you expand on that? I live in Charlottesville and haven’t heard about this unless it is breaking news? Or really old news? Maybe I just don’t remember?

Also, just because they haven’t released any new tips for all of us armchair detectives does not mean that they don’t have plenty of them to work with. Virginia typically does not release this kind of information to the public during an open investigation.

But they do have the phone records and they have been interviewing and even interrogating people in the area. They have suspects, but they are not going to tell us who and what they have ruled out. They also have their reasons for knowing that Morgan was inside the arena that night.

They also have to wait for the DNA testing and in this case they have to reconstitute the DNA since Morgan’s remains sat out exposed to the elements for 4 months, and that takes time. Luckily there was enough to gather some DNA and other evidence but it does take time for those specific tests do be done accurately.

This is just the way it is here and it’s the way I remember other cases being handled in the past. We do have some cold cases here, but many others have been solved, some recently solved cases that were almost 20 years old. This case is not getting the national “Nancy Grace” treatment because Virginia’s laws are very different than Florida’s and some other states that release everything to the public.

It’s easy to get discouraged when we don’t have all the facts. But I know that the police and the FBI are working diligently on this case. I know some of the investigators personally and while they of course cannot give me any serious details on this case I do discuss it with them and I know they are making progress. They just don’t share their ongoing information, leads, tips, POI’s, evidence, etc with us.

Hopefully they will come forward with another press release soon, if for no other reason than to help allay the public concern and fear that this case is going cold.

  50. JuJuBee says:

I’m a longtime lurker and wanted to chime in on the idea that Morgan would have known about the no re-entry policy.

A week ago, I attended a rock concert in Baltimore; it was in the 1st Mariner Arena downtown. The arena kind of borders the ‘ok’ part of downtown and parts where things go downhill. On every glass door in large letters was the phrase: No Re-Entry. Despite this, the girls waiting in line behind me (who were all about Morgan’s age, who were extremely well-spoken and level-headed seeming until then) were talking about how they didn’t want to keep their coats with them in the arena once the doors opened…and ONE of them volunteered to bring them back OUT to the parking garage once they’d found their seats. Just as I was about to be a nosy mom type and say, “there’s no re-entry, WTH are you thinking going back out alone?!” one of the girls said, “what about what it says on the door?” The girl who’d offered to leave AND the other girls blew off her comment…”Oh, they’ll let me back in, I’ll have a stub and wrist band”, etc.

I was both stunned and surprised that 1) only one of the girls would offer to take the coats back w/out others offering to go with her (worse, it turned out the garage was on the seedier side of downtown), 2) the girls blew off the no re-entry notice, and 3) the did this when they weren’t familiar with Baltimore AT ALL (they were from Pa.). Don’t get me started on the lack of logic…they were in seats! They could have easily stuffed their coats under their feet! The girls didn’t have to fight for a good spot…they could have left together to put the coats up as soon as the door opened…totally no thought put into their actions.

I had an extra ticket (GA floor, not seats, that I was holding onto in hopes that a friend could show up) and turned around then and told the girl that she was nuts, but if she went out and couldn’t get back in to text me and I would give her my extra ticket. They looked at me like I had two heads.

Going into the concert, I was hyper aware of the actions of others and thought of Morgan a lot. I noticed a LOT of risky behavior by females of all ages…taking food from strangers, letting ‘this guy in my English class’ buy them beer, wandering off alone to see if they knew anyone else at the concert. Once seats were taken, spots claimed on the floor, there was also a lot of solo bathroom trips, some of which took a LONG time.

    It opened up my eyes.

The concert was amazing…and hopefully the girl who wanted to leave the arena to put coats in the car thought twice about it.
