Morgan Harrington Murder: Why Anchorage Farm?

Charlottesville, VA– Morgan Harrington, 20 year old Virginia Tech Student found murdered on Anchorage Farm January 26 2010, was put there for a reason.

It was clear from Lt. Joe Rader’s press conference on February 4 that the location of Morgan’s remains is critical to the investigation, and to the identity of the individuals responsible.

Why Anchorage Farm?

AFDistrictlessbass

David and Nancy Bass, owners of Anchorage Farm and the residential dwellings therein, own a boatload of land.

B O A T L O A D.

Mr. Bass, is also a longstanding member of the Albemarle County Zoning Appeals Board. In fact, he is the Chairman of the ACZAB since 2007, where he preceded this position at the Vice Chair since 2000.

Between 2005 and 2008, let’s agree there is a “run” on raw land in Albemarle County VA, in particular.

Like many families owning large tracts of land, there is always the dilemma of staying ahead of the zoning curve or preserving their land while paying taxes only on the residence.

Anchorage Farm, like almost 90% of surrounding vacant land, was registered in the Agricultural and Forrestal preservation program.

Location, Location, Location

TaxMap88

The forced sale of Biscuit Run due to David Breeden’s original will was a disaster to its purchasers including Hometown crooner Dave Matthews.

A $46 Million dollar purchase from the Breeden family was recently bailed out by VDOT for under $10 Million.

There are lukewarm results to Blandemar Farms in its infancy.

The fresh sale of the first-of-its-kind development marrying land preservation and *ethereal* elite* estates* known as Bundoran Farms, Bass withdraws his 654 acre contribution to the Hardware District renewal.

Mr. and Mrs. Bass re-parceled and re-deeded their land in 2007.  I have studied this tract closely; there is no doubt in my mind this land was being prepped for development with exactly the right easements for “right of way” purposes in place.

Nearly every other landowner was now in the 10 year plan with the possibility of not just one, but two significant luxury development projects on the horizon while their land is restricted from development of a “more intense use.”

Translation:

Holy Sh*t,  my land could be “not subject to further subdivision”  and worth half of what it is now in 10 years.  Gulp.

Morgan’s remains were found in parcel 41a.

Which would coincide with the 4 and 1 parts of her families creed o; I choose to take comfort in that.

Keeping up with the Jonesbrights

TaxMap87

As an example, let’s use the adjacent property tracts across Red Hill.

The Howell, Waybright, Napier and Hager Families own the largest preserved adjacent trac on Monacan, which from a plot perspective, you might argue is land-locked due to Mr. Bass ‘s re-zoning.

Now, before I get 300 posts asking if I am suggesting Morgan Harrington was murdered out of revenge of a land dispute; of course not.

I am simply saying it is possible that part of the motive of the persons responsible for Morgan’s death to place her on exactly the parcel she was, may have been a combination of comfort AND perceived payback.

I have personally worked with developers on a similar project and I have seen a man have his land value cut in half by not completing the planning process prior to  new zoning amendments AFTER granting easements through it. Utter Nightmare.

I was referring to bio-dad. Has young RSO’s middle name as first name and his age is 45, I believe. Sorry for the code. I don’t know what’s okay to post and what’s not. And part of me thinks young RSO isn’t directly involved. I would think that they would have already been all over him and I *hope* if he had even one little slip up it would be enough to take him in on a parole violation and make him sit until DNA evidence was back. I might be missing something that we’ve already gone over, however.

Regarding names and land. Is Howell not a significant name here w/respect to Anchorage? I know it was a first name of a Lewis (most likely a maiden name given to a son) Could there be some resentment in that the Howell’s used to own the farm and there is some significance w/ that particular parcel where Morgan was found. Which by the way is barely within the current property lines. Also, Anchorage is listed as a funerary. Still has this function today. Does that just mean it’s a place to hold funerals? And one more thing, has anyone been able to link the spot where Morgan was found to a hiding place. Somewhere someone would go to hide during a place of stress or if he needed a time out of sorts?

Oh this made me laugh, not at you J2K or Geeglouise, but the phrase, and only because I have heard the very correct english and pronunciation of this over rated, and over used line……. However, with zeal, he accuses me of this as kind of an offensive teenager tactic.

I don’t think this crime has anything to do with properties lines or real estate, other than the fact that somebody may have felt “entitled” to hang out on that property whenever they felt like it.

My belief that the violence happened in the immediate area of Anchorage Farm is growing in my head like a tumor.

I hate to get tunnel vision pertaining to a hypothesis. I’d also hate to be wrong and look like a fool when the truth comes out. But the second I saw TDBone’s picture, and saw that path, something in my head just screamed “THAT’S IT.”

Maybe it’s just because it fits my theory. I don’t know. I guess I’ll just reserve the right to be wrong, and reserve the right to move my cheese if or when other facts come to light.

Some of youze will love this FBI stuff on behavioral investigations of serial killers. Very interesting, and very comprehensive.

It’s from a symposium on the subject, described thusly:

    snip

A total of 135 subject matter experts attended the five-day event. These individuals included law enforcement officials who have successfully investigated and apprehended serial killers; mental health, academic, and other experts who have studied serial killers and shared their expertise through education and publication; officers of the court, who have judged, prosecuted, and defended serial killers; and members of the media, who inform and educate the public when serial killers strike. The attendees also reflected the international nature of the serial murder problem, as there were attendees from ten different countries on five continents.

The agenda encompassed a variety of topics related to serial murder including common myths, definitions, typologies, pathology and causality, forensics, the role of the media, prosecution issues, investigative task force organization, and major case management issues. Each day included panel discussions, case presentations, and discussion groups addressing a range of topics related to serial murder.

I’m willing to relinquish my “Team Cool Kid” T-shirt and admit that I have no idea what you’re talking about…
I was quoting The Wailers song (from, like, 50 years ago).
(But, speaking of “Cool Kids,” where ya been, mon? I feel like it’s been awhile. Hope all is well!)

    yoshi – re: “3 -5 years”

(noted:) “J2K- you said: It appears that he committed two acts of rape in the first year he lived at MT Road address, which catapulted him into the juvenile-justice system, leaving little time to freely explore, hunt or otherwise traverse the back end of AF accessible from his new house (not impossible, but not like he “frolicked” there for the last few years as he was monitored 24 hours a day and it would have stood out as illegal trespassing, i.e. probation violation. (Could this have been the 3 – 5 years reference…?) …
“Are you considering that he was incarcerated (juvenile hall) for a period of time. Hence LE’s reference to moving out of the area and then back again? Apolly’s in advance if that’s what you were saying.”

yosh – I’ve found it’s virtually impossible to research those pesky JSOs; their blasted (and likely very disturbing) records are sealed, so I do not know what his sentence was. But (sorry to defer to you again, Esq.) redly seems to know his way around this judicial jungle gym (I’m not sure if our other resident Observer is able to share, in his regard). I was merely following the logic that if it’s clear to investigators, locals and others that the perp(s) – or one of them – *must* to be familiar with the AF/BF site, it points to someone quite local, as kids/teens/(adults even) don’t often drive somewhere like that to trespass.

In fact, the current bulls-eye on his butt definitely stems from his amazingly close proximity to the place her body was found; and, in my opinion, the amateurish attempt made at hiding a body that the killer(s) clearly did *not* want to be found, points to a rather novice local psychopath. Oh, yeah – and his shocking juvenile record and age proximity to MH match the informal profile I have of at least one of the perps. That, too. But where was I…?

Oh, yeah – that said, I can’t be sure that he’s a said local because he’s been ensconced in the legal system – and, yes – probably some juvie time, too, but I have no confirmation of that – ever since his mama moved onto MT Road (to boot: B has suggested that his “failure to register” conviction in ’08 may have been a result of not living where he was registered to live – i.e., *not* at that address).

So, in a sort-of answer to your question: maybe. *Maybe* he grew up in that area or relatively nearby (and/or had a good buddie who lived closer than he to AF) – a little crew of Johnny Switchblade Adventure Punks, if you will – and he went away to a detention center 3-5 years ago when he first got convicted of rape, and now he’s back, even closer to AF, but “reformed”… only, *maybe* he’s not.

  17. Observer says:

TO: suz, re: one perp v. two: You and I may well be the only two here who are still of a mind that Morgan’s perp acted solo. While I’m open to the possibility of an accomplice, I’m maintaining my position of one perp only.

RE, the RSO: B stated “I believe they just simply caught him living somewhere other than where he was supposed to-”

Correct. Unfortunately, this happens more often that we’d like to think, i.e., an RSO originally registers as living in one location but subsequently moves and fails to notify LE of the relocation. [One in particular immediately comes to mind who had relocated far from his original address and only registered the new location after some years.]

ALL: I am re-posting Teri’s post below, in its entirety, because of the extremely important points she makes. I encourage all readers to pay close attention to her assumptions:

“I have to go out on a limb here and say there is no perp DNA found on Morgan. Because, if there was – there would be an arrest by now.

There is NO WAY the VSP would be waiting for weeks to MONTHS for these results. They already know what they are.

So – either the DNA found on her was not out of place.
OR – The DNA is not registered.

Cheese Jumpsuits DNA WOULD be out of place. And, with his history – an arrest would be an obvious thing to do.

So – that leads me to the conclusion that there is no DNA – or the DNA that was found would have good reason to be there. Or – it’s not registered.
Which brings me back to the question…who is the actual murderer – and who was the helper. Maybe Cheese Jumpsuit didn’t commit the act…but was present during the assault?”

My (O) sense: The perp DNA–if any–found on Morgan’s remains is not associated with a RSO.

OT and FWIW: Rachel Maddow is indeed a Rhodes Scholar, holds a PhD from Oxford, and is gay. Ann Coulter holds a J.D. from the Univ. of Michigan and is not gay. Neither are intellectual slouches. [The aforementioned is the sum-total of my political commentary. Period. Full stop.]

TO Josie: Yes, we might only hope that an arrest draws closer.

RE: redly stated: “I think they probably reviewed the files of all the local SOs as part of this investigation. They noticed that he needed to reregister and talked to his probation officer. Would not surprise me if they talked to him before 1/25.”

    and

“…his court records do not specify that he went on active supervision at that time — which is what triggers the GPS requirement. Courts do drop the ball all the time.”

Correct on all four points above. [And yes, J2K, you are correct, as well: if the speculation here bears fruit, re: the RSO, that would be the very definition of a "incredibly tragic oversight". I offered in one of many, many posts (in what now feels like ages ago) that the information in any database or record, inc. RSOs, NCIC, court records, service division records, etc. et. al. is only as good as the person keying-in the originating information...and that's often an $8-10/hr. clerk. Errors and omissions happen with more frequency than any of us would like to admit. Sad reality, yes...but I’ve never been wont to varnish over an ugly truth.]

    TO: total amateur, you said:

“I don’t think this crime has anything to do with properties lines or real estate, other than the fact that somebody may have felt “entitled” to hang out on that property whenever they felt like it.

    Agreed on all counts.

TO: suz 3/4, 8:34pm, re, symposia on serial killers: Many years ago I attended a LE conference. The keynote speaker was the FBI SAIC who was the lead investigator on the Ted Bundy case. He became the person closest to Bundy during his final years prior to his execution, as he wanted to get into Bundy’s head to understand better the mind of a serial killer. It was perhaps the singular, most compelling presentation I’ve ever witnessed.

    AS for EMH…
Ya think he was livin in Crozet or the house that burned down?

FWIW, I read a discussion from one of the Newpaper articles about the fire, and the actual GIRLS that lived there were debating posters that were asking why they were movin out in the middle of the year, their suspicions etc. Their reply was that it was a chimney fire I think, but the main part “she said that all 3 of them were 3 best friends and they found that it wasn’t workin livin together,
and they wanted to keep their friendship in tact.” Who knows if that is even true. sorry don’t have link.

I am still not ruling out the fire OR Sheriff Willie’s death.

Fish…I agree about stringing EMH up if he admitted it, but
there HAS to be a MORE POWERFUL AUTHORITY FIGURE
controlling this whole thing. Whether it is a parent, LE, EMT, Fire Captain,Rich whatever. This person is what is keepin everyone quiet. I dont think EMH is smart enough to carry this out by himself.

My feeling is that it was kids partying, drugs, attempted sexual advances, rage,… I think it got out of hand, and there was a horrific ending.

People like this are not normal, so I’m not so sure how much THOUGHT went into AFarm-except he knew it, and it was close. Just my opinion, but I don’t think some sicko “planned to go trolling for vulnerable women, searched for a girl to kill that night, and place her on the farm.” It all just happened.

“What the Hell did John just say” about what?
I am willing to tell you
I am wanting to tell you
I am waiting to tell you

Lets see, my last post was about a dog being rescued. they were talking about it on CNN. John Roberts posted a snippet of a video about it, and they did not know the owner) It was a little blond dog. It had been swimming (in water, Phyl) (I thought I might as well let Sky know, in some off chance it was her dog)

My last post befor that was about a plane crash near Charlottesville Va. yesterday. (I might not have been clear, but it was my hope that it crashed into a SO house and killed one of them) It reminded me of another plane crash a couple of years ago in Va. where the pilot was a land developer. (I was thinking and wondering out loud if this pilot was a land developer too)
Did I answer your question KeeKee?

    —————————————————–
I think the dark haired one is Cheddar Jumpsuit? Thanks to someone else’s pointing out of his Family Watchdog pic, I think it might be- and I can only base that on the mouth. Looks alot different if that’s him with longer, darker hair. As for the other guy, I can only venture a guess- could use confirmation on both.

Well now it’s late and I’m talking to myself.
Blink, can’t you moderate 24 hours a day? ;) Just kidding.

Skyler, I keep thinking about your pup, hoping for news of a reunion soon, and pup is safe, meanwhile. Maybe some little girl is begging right now, “please mom, can we keep him? He followed me home, I’m sure he’s a stray, pleeeaase?”

  40. bluewillow says:

oops, Skyler, I should have said “she” not “he” in regards to your pups, sorry.

  41. bluewillow says:

Texas Grandpa, I keep thinking about your excellent post. In a way, I feel sort of an awakening. Women are the majority, really? And yet, look at our laws. Look at the way we have to live, always on our guard. Have you ever watched birds? They seem so carefree as they flit about enjoying being alive, but then you realize, they are never relaxed. They never stop looking around them. They never let down their guard. That’s how we have to live.

Why is this not “the” women’s issue? I think the time has come!

  42. Eloise says:

Fish, I agree on your video. Total Amateur, that is taken at Anchorage old farmhouse where the daughter lives, in Dec 2009. Some think the one fellow is cheezy jumpsuit. I think it could be.??

    J2K (regarding your 3/4 @1:19 AM post),
Full Gumby! Ouch! I’m not that limber anymore. . .and hate to see you tryna play “Twister” wit a mismark mat! Naw, jack-to-da-king, see I got dis ol 1994-’95 C & P Telephone book fo’ da ‘Noke. . . don’t aks me why, but yeah, Ro’Noke, true dat . . . an’em Harringtons be already livin’ where dey still at (same number too). So ain’t no way I kin see Jumpsuit Junior tryna hook up wit Classy Lassie onna back of Miz Applebaum class…” [No; Uncle! I can't keep this up.]

In Standard English, I can’t think Morgan was in C’ville long enough to be in elementary school with anyone local– unless that anyone later moved here from Roanoke. But dare I ask whether, unless Morgan had set her Facebook page to private, a potential BG “friend” could have targeted her with very specific information poached from her casual interactions with other “friends”? [This is an open question which may itself be naive; I've never joined Facebook and probably never will, so someone help me out, here!]

Really I’m not wed to the idea that Morgan had an intended rendezvous; just haven’t ruled it out; not enough info to say. I do believe that WHY she exited JPJ could speak materially to her state of mind and more, & might point to PsOI (inside the arena or out–or both). And I’m not sure that she’d have gotten into a vehicle with anyone, motivated only by her discomfort level(cold/wet/P’dOff); maybe a degree of familiarity gave her some level of comfort in that decision, which may have been very in-the-moment. In the end, of course you’re right to say that she met some “Wrong Dude, and it cost her her life”– but I believe that devil might be seen in details of what she’d done or said well before exiting JPJ.

The gate that is in the pictures 43-50 might be easy to get in, but getting a body down the hill on the other side to place it where Morgan was found would be hard, especially in the dark. Why would you do that when you could drive all the way? I remember when I was younger going down in that bottom area to pick berries. It is really easy to get through there in a vehicle. I imagine trespassers who hunt might take their vehicles through there right up to where they hunt, and never be seen.
    —-
duannahincville, you have spent time there on the farm?

Is it possible that the point is, there are all these obstacles to getting to the place that Morgan was placed from all the different possible directions, *except for one*? and only a very few would know of that one?

The area is so stunningly beautiful, I am just entranced by the photos. It’s so hard to understand rape and murder happening there. It seems so incongruous…

  45. yoshi says:

Fish- that performance was Dec. 14, 2009. Did you happen to notice the title of that video? It’s not the one that is usually referenced. For the locals (and I’m not one, but it got my attention) the title is Wallen’s Ridge. hmmm… makes me feel like playing Coincidence or Clue http://www.vadoc.virginia.gov/facilities/western/wallens-ridge/

total amateur – I’m not sure who that is in the video. I have read speculation that it is D upside down M err W but really M with young, local RSO. Hard to tell. I just took a screen grab and am going to play around with it to see if I can see anything interesting.

    the_7-thanks for bio-dad’s residence confirmation.

J2K- re: RSO- I was always assuming the youngling was the local who went away for 3-5 years (juvie or boarding school) and then came back. The one who would know the area like the back of his hand, I guess there could be others in the area as well. I never even considered that he might not have grown up in the area. He’s the most obvious BG (obviously, but he could also look like a good guy if you’re going on looks) and he’s the easiest to implicate; yet he appears the least likely responsible (at this point in the investigation, IMO). And yes, I share your frustration trying to look up court records. Not even so much because he was a juvenile and it’s impossible, but because you have to be running Internet Explorer or NETSCAPE!!?? to see court records for some (but not all) of Virginia’s courts.
Now, that’s just poop. What about Firefox and Safari? And who uses Netscape anymore?

Skyler- sorry to address you right after my poop comment…I couldn’t come up with a smooth transition, but I’ve been meaning to tell you that I hope you find your dog. Didn’t you lose her in the beginning of all this or was that another pet or even possibly a different poster? I really hope she comes back. Did you take a sign to your vet’s office? One of my labs jumps our 6 foot fences to go down to the elementary school to play with the kids. I know that feeling when you realize she’s gone. I’ve been meaning to watch the LOG videos you reference, but I haven’t made it back through the posts. If it’s easy for you, can you link them here?

Jim M- I don’t want to try and change your opinion regarding who you believe you see in that youtube video I posted earlier in the week. I thought it was Morgan too, that’s why I passed it on. But something about it gnawed at me and it was the young woman’s profile. Call me crazy, but as I paused and played over and over again I came to realize that the bridge of the woman’s nose in that particular video was too sloped, slanted and severe to be Morgan’s. (I can’t believe that I know this) You would have to see a picture of Dee to see what I’m talking about. Her nose isn’t as “soft” looking as Morgan’s. It’s sharper. In addition, this woman (whom I believe to be Dee) can be seen in other videos during Metallica’s set in the exact same spot with the exact same guy in an olive green collared shirt.

One thing to consider, however, regarding this video. On insessions (where I linked the video from) there were a few statements regarding the men standing around this young woman. Some thought one of them looked like our young RSO, but w/glasses. I can’t say for sure myself, but since there’s speculation that: 1) he was w/Morgan on Oct. 17 and 2) he might be in the Here’s to the Long Haul video maybe someone would like to look at these two videos w/this in mind. In addition, there was a point in time based on videos that they were not with Dee for a period of time. Could be as simple as they went to get food/drink or to smoke, IDK.

And speaking of dudes in black whoever they are (and then I’ll shut up).To those who don’t think that someone would spend money on a concert only to leave after seeing the opening set, I disagree. I have left a Neil Young concert because my seats were horrible and I was bored. (Blasphemous, I know.) In addition, I have purchased tickets to a concert and decided not to go at the last minute because, “I didn’t feel like it.” Actually I was annoyed at how mainstream this particular band had become and I didn’t want to share the experience with a bunch of 15 year olds whose only exposure to said band was through popular radio. (I know, I know, it was petty and snooty, but I was young (in my 20′s); which is exactly my point. I didn’t care about the money. So I personally don’t find it hard to believe that someone would pay top dollar for Metallica tickets only to leave before they even take the stage.

Seeing some song lyrics on here and the names of the posters “Pale Rider” and “John” reminded me (in a good way!) of a very appropriate song with a warning that I would like to direct to the bad guy/guys: “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” – the brilliant Johnny Cash version with that amazing music video:

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down

    Go tell that long-tongue liar
Go and tell that MIDNIGHT RIDER (my note: the opposite of Pale Rider)
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back-biter
Tell ‘em that God’s gonna cut ‘em down

Well my goodness gracious, let me tell you the news
My head’s been wet with the midnight dew
I’ve been down on bended knee
Talkin’ to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in a voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angels’ feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, “JOHN, go do My will!”

Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin’ in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
WHAT’S DOWN IN THE DARK WILL BE BROUGHT TO THE LIGHT

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down

Oh and Skyler, I am sending prayers and wishes as far as I can, from all the way over here, that your baby dog has come home already, safe and sound. Our “baby” is a Dachshund named Clara-Bella that is dropped off at my parents before work every day so they can babysit her until we finish work, when we pick her up again! She has never been alone for a minute in her whole life! So I understand how distraught you must be. I do believe you can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat animals, and judging by the compassion and concern shown by the posters here for human life and justice, I am sure that everyone here just loves their animals too. Just as I am also sure that the bad guy has been cruel to animals in his life.

The collective energy here is really amazing and it is clear no stone will be left unturned, no path unsearched, no RSO left unscrutinized, no theory unvetted, and our collective wish will not be ignored, so:

    Go, Blinkers, Go

    Go, Blinkers, Go
    Reach that final goal
    J4M! J4M! J4M!!!
