Charlottesville, VA– On the evening of one of the most anticipated musical events of her young 20 years, Morgan Dana Harrington, 20, disappeared from the Metallica Concert at JPJ on October 17, 2009. After months of investigative efforts involving four different law enforcement jurisdictions, Morgan’s skeletal remains were found by Anchorage Farm owner David Bass on January 26, 2010.

Upon the recovery of Morgans remains, many parallels of her life reflected her love of the musical community in general, but also, the surrounding venues she attended previously, such as bonnarooallgood, the rooster walk, and floydfest. Bamboozler Charlottesville is rife with heritage, musical talent, eclectic artisans and those wanting to be a part of it, nightly, across the vast bucolic landscape. As a tribute to Morgan Harrington’s love of the Indi music scene, blinkoncrime.com will explore some of the culture and artists she embraced.

    Scroll to the far immediate right (past 29) to find the intersection of Grady Ave. 15th Street (not far) as it relates to anything we might find. If the shirt was found there..Why there?

  3. anotherB says:

    If this shirt is in fact genuine, it really begins to look like the work of more than just one person. It looks like various immature and unsophisticated people beginning to panic, which leads them to salt an area that is *not* their habitat. At that time, they must have realized that she could in fact be found, and that it would point at one of them. They must have felt an arrest is imminent.

    Until now, I believed it was just one perpetrator, and I thought it would have been someone who basically doesn’t care, who would regard it as we would regard illegal parking – you don’t get caught, you feel lucky, and you forget about it soon after. Nothing to feel bad about.

    If the shirt is genuine, at least one of them is panicking – which is what police kept emphasizing, they asked for information on people who changed drastically during this period.

    Whoever planted the shirt, did so last fall, long before Morgan’s body was found. However, you may be on to something.

  6. In Memory of Gini says:

    If the Equinocalypse participants are directly involved in Morgan’s case, you would think that they would have sacrificially burned the shirt rather than leave it somewhere to be found and processed for their DNA. I hope this is a sign of how stupid he is/they are.

    I don’t think it’s been reported if the tee shirt was balled up, splayed out, thrown there, or what.

    There is an article in today’s Washington Post about a serial rapist that has been operating up and down the East Coast for 13 years now. Don’t know if this could be related to Morgan’s case, but he did attack 3 teenage girls in Northern VA (about 2 hrs. from Charlottesville) on Oct. 31 while they were trick or treating. None of his other attacks have ended in murder, though.

    I know we have readers from other parts of the East Coast here, so I thought it was at least worth posting to make everyone aware. I had not heard of this guy. Here is a link to the article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2010/03/15/ST2010031501850.html?sid=ST2010031501850

    Is the area where the shirt was found a “rough” neighborhood? Is it a college neighborhood? Any RSO’s in the immediate area?

    Just thinking out loud … seems someone was pointing the finger away from himself.

    Keeping the faith in an arrest and conviction.

    Wouldn’t it be “smarter” to throw the shirt in a dumpster or gas station bathroom trash can back on Oct. 17 OR so?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The shirt was found outside an apartment building that mostly college students occupy.
    I would think destroying evidence would be the “smart” thing to do. However, is the perp playing some sort of game? Follow the bread crumbs and you will find me? Did they want to leave items in locations so random that they would lead LE in the wrong direction?
    The planting of these items is very bizarre. The more items you dump places the higher the risk of being seen doing so. Having more than one perp, would alleviate some of the risk. But why chance it?
    The clumsy planting of the shirt, IMHO, leads me to believe it’s a dim-witted, inexperienced(in murder), youthful offender. This person probably thought they were “outsmarting” LE- they THINK they’re smart and cunning. Luckily- for justice’s sake- they’re not. To make this bold of a move- you would have to not even seriously consider the ramifications of having you or your vehicle seen, being caught on survellience, or leaving behind a multitude of forensic evidence. We’re dealing with half-wits here people. They’ve already made too many mistakes. It’s only a matter of time. I’m actually surprised an arrest hasn’t already been made.
    3. low – to – middle income African Americans and a few whites, some of whom sell drugs at the nearby local market on Grady Avenue
    4. upper middle class mature, mostly white, folk
    5. the occasional young professional
    I’m not saying that white people don’t sell drugs in Charlottesville; just that this one little stretch of Grady near the store sees drug deals on a predominantly African American basis. Discussion of the historical race problems and White establishment misdeeds towards blacks of Charlottesville could take up another blog.     Also, found where is was at…does that mean someone wants his 15 minutes of fame? Of all places!! Come on!! An apartment building where the one guy interviewed by the Hook, Mr. Shores, states he is “practically interrogated” AND he was also at Metallica concert.
    This really is a small, small world!
    Now back to the shirt. Hey, fellow searchers were any of you searching this area. I know where I was. I’m asking because could someone have dropped it, hopeful that someone, even him, might find it and the trumpets would herald but no one did and he was to
    cvillenative-had a few minutes and thought I would check back in. If Nathaniel Washington wasn’t in jail, I would be sure the East Coast rapist was the man who targeted women in the Charlottesville area for so many years. Description, mo and everything sounds so similar. I think it was determined that Mr. Washington, at least in some of his attacks, had observed his victims and their habits. He usually targeted his victims in the place they felt most safe, their home. I doubt that this rapist is connected to Morgan, but the story should be repeated in every newspaper up and down the East Coast and on every radio and TV station. There are many horrid stories everyday, but this one gives me cold chills.
    I’m a Hook reporter covering this story. There’s a smoking area inside JPJ; the official story has always been that she told her friends she was going to the bathroom. And there has never been any information about Morgan being seen on surveillance at JPJ or anywhere else. In fact, that’s one of the many odd things in this case: police have been very clear– in multiple conversations I’ve had with them– that they have no video or photos of Morgan from that night.
    If we are talking about the apartment building at 1500 Grady, viewing it in Google Earth street view, I’m not sure which “3 bushes” are referred to. There appear to be bushes all along the building. Maybe that has changed since these images were taken? The bushes are tight up against the building, then there is a small lawn, then sidewalk, then the street. A person could throw something into the bushes from the sidewalk or street.
    On the 15th St. side of the building, there are a few bushes right up against the building, between the doorways to residences, and the parking lot pretty much comes right up to them. I can’t get a good look at the parking lot on the other side of the building.
    It was found on 15th st side. there is just a few, but up against the building, and to the left away from Grady there is a a bunch of shrubs and trees if one were wishing to hide it
    Who actually pulls the trigger on an arrest in a case like this?
    The District Attorney? Or the Detectives…or the Chief? I’d think the DA. After all, this is a highly publicized case- he/she is not going to want to proceed until he’s confident he has enough for a conviction. Could the DA’s office be holding up an arrest? Could there be behind the scenes political tanglings? This could be a make or break case for somebody. No DA would want to lose this case.
    So ASSUMING that the t is Morgan’s, I think there seems to be an underlying agreement here that the perp most likely returned to AF to retrieve it?
    Returning to a victim’s corpse is indeed a behavioral sign of a budding sociopath/serial killer.
    This planting stuff around town also ups the creepiness factor, because I think it’s one perp.
    RE: the shirt
    could Morgan have been picked up from Copely/JPJ, and the perp pulled over on Grady to begin his “move”, and a struggle ensued here while parked…Morgan fights back, throws own shirt out window/door as a clue(realizing her possible fate), eventually succumbing to attack, and perp drives off none the wiser to shirt “missing”…
    OR
    jealous GF finds shirt in her man’s belongings/vehicle, doesnt even put together a “missing woman” connection, just that she has found a female’s shirt in her man’s stuff and it aint hers, if you know what i mean…furious, “plants” it right where her man will see it when he gets “there”…if you know what i mean…
    OR
    Morgan attended after hour party on this street, and “left” it in a home there, or took it off voluntarily while outside perhaps getting sick near the bushes…
    B-was she wearing a long sleeve black undershirt?? or was the Pantera shirt long sleeved?
  30. cvillenative says:
    MsL – I had the exact same thought when I read the article. My understanding of the C’ville rapist was that he would select a victim then watch them and learn their patterns. Then when he knew they would be out, he would break in to their homes and ambush them when they got home. One of his last (if not the last) attacks was literally right down the street from me, and I was living alone at the time. I was terrified. I have a gun, and it went everywhere with me from the time of that attack until they caught him. I would enter my home with my finger on the trigger, and then I would search my entire place before I put the gun down. That was a scary, scary time.
  31. suz says:
    Adair, thanks! Always glad to hear when my contributions bring a smile or guffaw.
  32. suz says:
    Hmmm. Not sure what it will take to convince me that the perp or perps are playing cat and mouse with the purse, shirt, boots, etc. I tend to think that most murderers don’t do that, but admittedly some do. Perhaps I’m overly sensitive to the notion due to all the well meaning but wild speculation that had dopey Casey Anthony sending all sorts of cleverly coded messages. (Jury’s not out, so I may eat crow, lol.)
    If the cops find a literal red herring wrapped with the cute-looking-but-evil-acting RSO’s rap sheet, left at AF on Bass’s front step or the in the bushes of the Copley apartments, mebbe I’d believe the game is afoot.
  33. justiceformorgan says:
    I thought the found shirt was discounted initially because it had a picture on it in addition to lettering and Morgan’s shirt only had lettering. I realize the found shirt would still be relevant because it was a Pantera shirt however it wouldn’t have Morgan’s DNA on it and might not have the DNA of the BG if it was planted by someone else. Am I remembering this correctly anyone?
  34. cadillac says:
    Obviously so much of the frustration that has reared its head on this forum of late, is the fact that LE is due to the fact they are keeping all close to the vest. We wish to know what they know – ah – we wouldn’t be on this type of forum, now would we?
    I still think they KNOW and the facts, DNA, evidence and time line is a work in progress.
    I am a southern girl – sorry if that offends some – but as a southern girl we are taught to “do the r-i-g-h-t thing” and I hope that is what the LE authorities (however many agencies there are) are doing.
    I’m going to throw this out there…I’ve been doing A LOT of reading on social networking sites and I’ve watched a lot of videos. Here’s another idea I’m pondering. Did Morgan or her friends ever participate in role playing? Specifically Dungeons and Dragons? I ask because after reading and watching I have to also ponder the possibility that maybe Morgan didn’t willing participate, but perhaps was invited and then targeted for her innocent beauty and “used” in a game/ceremony. I’ve read talk of a lot of drinking, lots of drugs, costumes, swords, guns, and Dungeons and Dragons from band members and friends of band memebrs blogs and social networking sites. The members and their friends are the same age as me. Everyone is different and there’s a wide spectrum of personalities in this world. I just don’t personally know other thirty somethings that act and speak in some of the ways I have read and watched about from their own blogs and sites who fit in the norm. BG’s mixed with drugs? Perhaps someone went too far. In the morning it was all rationalized as a bad dream or trip. What do we do now? Just my thoughts at the moment.
    It doesn’t sound like the shrubs were a hiding spot to me; it sounds more like that shirt was purposely tossed onto the bush – probably that very day or the night before – with the by-then-well-known Pantera logo showing:
    (From The Hook piece)
    …It was a mid-afternoon while walking home from class last fall– he thinks it was November– that UVA student Blaine Eichner saw something black in the bushes in front of his apartment building. There on the 15th Street side, on a bush, was a black Pantera t-shirt.
    “I didn’t know what to think,” says Eichner, who like most Charlottesvillians was well aware of the missing Metallica fan. Eichner says he and his roommate knew better than to touch possible evidence, so they reported the finding to Charlottesville police, who responded to the call with “two or three cop cars.”…
    It had to be at least mid-day (he was walking home from class), and the shirt was in the sight-line of the large, 21-unit apartment building’s entry walkway; in addition, it must have been placed or tossed *just so*, because “Pantera” was clearly visible: according to their account, the student and his roommate instantly recognized what high-profile garment they may have been looking at, and called the police – while being careful not to touch it (i.e., the discarded shirt did not have to be pulled from the branches or from underneath the shrubs, flipped over, unfolded, or otherwise handled in order for them to recognize exactly what they may have discovered.
    I’m not feeling the jealous girlfriend angle (but who knows?). But, I *am* thinking that (if the shirt was actually Morgan’s) that it is possible it was placed there as a warning to someone else – maybe someone who was a direct witness to the crime that night (and perhaps lived in the building). I’m going out on a limb here speculation-wise, but maybe the acting perp(s) threatened this (theoretical)nervous, possibly-ready-to-crack-and-go-to-the-police witness, warning him that if he *did* go to LE, they would pin it all on him… and the shirt was a warning (as well as possibly a step toward attempting to do just that).
    That’s, of course, just one of many possibilities, but it can’t be overlooked that a black Pantera shirt – a detail pivotal to the saturation news coverage at the time – was carefully placed in front of a specific (but not too-specific) address as the case (and the Harringtons) became increasingly high-profile.
    Alright, Blinkers – I know at least one of you is all over this: *Who* lives there? (Or, who *did* live there at the time?)
    Nope J2, you probably did not have a chance to review, but that is exactly what I originally posted, I was making the point if one wanted to hide it, it would not have been on the *for display purposes bushes*.
    Planted.
    Yes, I do know every person living there, if it was sent to message or blame someone, they are not on the actual lease, imo.
    Do any of the basketball players live in the area where the t-shirt was found? If so, perhaps someone planted it to be near the people last known to have spoken with her.
