Morgan Harrington Murder: Protest Group To Preach Hate At Virginia Tech

Posted by BOC Staff | Dan Harrington,Gil Harrington,Morgan Harrington,Murdered | Tuesday 30 March 2010 8:40 am

Blacksburg, VA– I wish this was an early April Fools Joke. It is Not.

Excerpts from yesterdays Collegiatetimes.com.

VT

Virginia Tech and Blacksburg leaders are preparing a response to an upcoming protest from the Westboro Baptist Church in relation to slain Tech student Morgan Harrington.

A calendar post on the Westboro Baptist Church’s Web site, godhatesfags.com, says the group will protest April 9 in downtown Blacksburg, outside Blacksburg High School, and the Virginia Tech branch of Hillel.

Among the propositions discussed were whether or not a counter-protest should be organized and if T-shirts would be commissioned. Carroll said that the SGA had proposed $250 for a counter-protest. Carroll also created a Google group, HokieNationResponse.

While some at the meeting proposed blocking the group’s proposed protest location, members of the group pointed out the action would be illegal under town code.

“If my radio show can prevent a circus atmosphere of protests, counter-protests, police protection, and media coverage from taking place in front of churches where grieving families are trying to say good-bye to their loved ones, then I think that’s a good thing,” Gallagher said, in an April 22, 2007 post on townhall.com.

Church officials said they were not protesting the 2007 shootings, saying they were “coming for the event that happened last month,” referencing slain student Morgan Harrington. A 20-year-old education major, Harrington was found in late January 2010 after going missing in October 2009 while attending a Metallica concert in Charlottesville, Va.

The LGBTA community has also shown outrage about the church’s protest. Aimee Kanode, a senior humanities, science, and environment major at Tech and president of Tech’s LGBTA said she would not attend the protest, as she has work on the day of the protest.

“These people are awful, appalling, despicable,” Kanode said. “My method is to just ignore them. Me wasting energy on those people is not worth my time.” Kanode said that while the group would not officially organize for the protest, several members and officers would be in attendance. Kanode said she advised her members to “be smart about it.”

“Be safe and know what you can and cannot do,” Kanode said. Jean Elliot and Ken Belcher, co-chairs of Tech’s LGBT Caucus, declined a request for comment on the protest.

The Westboro Baptist Church will start its April 9 protest at 1 p.m on the corner of North Main Street and East Roanoke Street. The church will then proceed to Blacksburg High School at 2:15 p.m., and the church will finish in Blacksburg with a 3 p.m. protest at the Blacksburg Jewish Community Center on East Roanoke Street.

From the Editor: This may be about the most egregious example of outright bad taste in my recent memory. There is a hate group attempting to exploit the name of a murdered woman whose killers are currently at large, on her campus.

For those who asked exactly why they would protest Morgan Harrington and her campus, I did some research.
This is from Godhatesfags.com -The protest will be April 9-

“Virginia Tech N. Main St. & E. Roanoke St. (SW Corner) WBC to picket Virginia Tech to connect the dots. God sent the killer because of your proud sin! You raise your kids to believe they can disobey God with impunity, and that His commandments are all on the table to be disposed of whenever you please. That’s why they think fornication, adultery, and sodomy are all just in good fun (instead of the filthy practices they are), and that’s why the wrath of God is on them. God is cursing you by killing those same children that you have lied to all their lives. VA Tech was just GodSmacked — another of your students murdered — and you still refuse to heed and obey the standards of God. Woe unto you! “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness…!” Isa. 5:20. You’re going to Hell, and you’re taking your kids with you.”

I read some on the other rock thread — btw, Blink, do you want us now posting here ? — and now understand it’s not really a “protest” — they just want to shout, make noise and hold up signs that say to the effect God sent Morgan’s killers because they deem God is Mad at the world, VT, the US — something — I dunno —

Susan, I loved your post — about letting this go thru you and redirecting our minds to what our purpose is here —

I hope the Harringtons will leave Roanoke on that day — not be anywhere near VT —

I hope that the citizen response of VT area will be to ignore them, close their windows and blinds and doors and just let ‘em be out there shouting to the wind and the cold and the thunder and the rain and the hail — maybe God will show them God is quite capable of speaking for his/her God-self : )

  3. total amateur says:

What if the Harringtons take this as an opportunity? This may sound crazy- but spinning off what the young college guy did in counter-protest of this twisted group(which was nothing short of genius)… What if the Harringtons, or counter-protesters, use the media attention to spread the word about violence against women, and to keep awareness afloat in the national spotlight concerning Morgan’s case? This story will probably be covered in the national news.

  4. Gypsy DD says:

The Westboro Baptist Church is a monogamy of Hate Mongers.

What if they threw a protest and no one..nada..showed up? No cameras, no public counter protesting them, in-fact just have people avoid the area entirely. No effect = EGO DEFLATION TO THIS GROUP.

    Let THEIR EGOS DEFLATE….SHUN THEM!

  5. Mom3.0 says:

Skyler, Thank you for assuring everyone that this is not what all Baptists believe. I agree with cvillenative, a counter-fundraiser is a great idea- people can do something positive with there feelings of disgust and shock.
Those who said to ignore them, are right. They seek attention. Do not let not anger and disgust fuel their beliefs or their cause. There are some people you can not reason with, it would be futile to try.

  6. Gypsy DD says:

Sugar..I meant to say Patriarchy of Hate Mongers instead of monogamy…

  7. total amateur says:

I think it’s time someone digs up a legal angle with these people. If they are to use signs saying “God sent the killer”, isn’t that provoking this person to kill again under the sick belief he’s acting under the direction of a higher power? Is it not promoting violence and murder? Is that not an act of terrorism?

I’d love nothing more than to see these pariahs behind bars and charged with terrorism.

    Let me say this.

I have just been shown the flier these freaks created for their protest. It will NEVER appear here, and I sincerely hope it does not appear in any site or forum that Dr. and Mrs. Harrington contribute to or read.

I think this group is supporting a possible hate crime, which falls under Federal jurisdiction.
Get your sleuthing hats on peeps.

Why would they pick the day after the Cville Take back the night Rally to “protest” at VT when Morgan went missing at UVA/JPJ in the first place. I call BS.

I wouldn’t call these people intelligent. I would call them programmed to hate. They are extremists fighting a war much like Jihad. They use God to further their cause.

Their ability to twist scripture to make God a hateful God is sickening. He is just but He loves all His children. I also believe God called upon us to love each other as He loves us. Nothing on that site about ‘the golden’ rule or 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, love being kind, not irritable.

There’s nothing Christian about this group.

To the Harringtons, LOVE HOPE & FAITH always prevails.

That is so true Blink, but are they protected because they are expressing religious beliefs? They seem more driven to protect their first admendment rights. It’s not the message as much as it is….’I just dare you to shut me up’. They are antagonists and very good at their ‘craft’ but no way do they uphold any Christian values in their own lives. I hope someone can find a loophole against the freak show.

This happened to a friend of mine. Also to another woman whose x kept threatening to take their 2 little kids out of the country. The judge ordered a few days of unsupervised visit for the father and poof! the kids were gone.
And now this case mentioned above where the family sues in what seems like a rightful case against these creepy evil hate-mongers, and have to pay their court costs? I simply do not understand.

now, total a. ( and, that is a fun name!!!), please tell me what you think these bones THE BLINKSTER has thrown us mean???? as i am one of the dipwads that totally missed the police chase and death of the young man with the brain injury… tx!
    ——————————————————————–
What do I “THINK” they mean? Well, you’re giving me the opportunity to open a can of worms here… aren’t you? I can only inerpret these tidbits in a literal sense. Taking these words verbatim, and adding my interpretation is just that- my interpretation. MY interpretation of these comments is this:

Blink’s terminology “unthinkable horror” leads me to believe Morgan suffered miserably at the hands of these individuals. Obvious in one way or another- but the way she says it… leads me to think of a prolonged suffering. She has hinted at this previously to some extent. Trust me- the thought of this sickens me, I don’t even like to think it. (God, please don’t let this be.) Next, it sounds as if Blink has it in good knowledge that she knows the identity of at least one person that was involved in Morgan’s murder. Her mentioning of “the person(s) that has helped so far” and “depraved spawn that you brought into this world” tells me that she believes a parent or parents are covering for and/or helping them. All I can say again is that if Blink knows, LE knows… and they may be closer to an arrest than people dare to hope.

As per the second comment- My interpretation is that Blink has some reason to believe that there is a witness or information placing Morgan, with the 4 BIB, in a direction heading “away” from Copeley Bridge.

As far as the Eppard case, you should be able to Google that easily, or click on one of the many links provided on this blog. People have speculated on a possible link between that incident and Morgan’s murder. However, I have not personally seen any definitive information pointing to that…yet.

Again, these are all totally my own interpretation- which you asked for. I’m not trying to speak for The Blinkmeister.

(awa is referring to two of Blink’s responses that can be found on the last 2 pages of the “Morgan Rocks” thread. I will not post them in full, for the purpose of saving space.)

Now Blink, when you make remarks like that- you leave them open for interpretation… so don’t hit me too hard! (cringe, covering head)

Yes 1st Amendment protects them though it is more the freedom of expression angle than the religious angle. They reside at the edge of the protections afforded by the Constitution. Unfortunately, if you move that edge to put people like this (who I am sure disgust 99% of the population) outside of the protection, then it justifies keeping on moving it to exclude behavior the majority dislikes we will eventually be left with nothing.

Angela — judges should uphold the Constitution and then the law. Unfortunately that can lead to decisions that seem to side with the bad guys, but that doesn’t mean the judges got it wrong.

I’ve heard of motorcycle groups drowning out these people’s “protesting” before, in tribute to Morgan, maybe a local band can set up, plug in their amps, and drown them out with a musical tribute in honor of Morgan?

  22. Mynamehere says:

I suggest that since many of the “members” of this small group are children, that people shower the children of the group with kindness so that they are able to see the good of others. I am an idealist and still believe LOVE conquers all. This is a sub-culture which has established their own societal rules, possibly a result of a homosexual encounter one of the elders had in his youth. It could be possible other members have had encounters with pedophiles, which is why they are drawn to a group whose mission is as such. They support one another and that is what they need. That is their payoff. Consider this hate had a beginning somewhere, at some point a seed was planted and the hate grew, but to possibly help the children of this group from continuing this sub-cultures mission, they need to see the goodness and kindness of others, just as Jesus really taught. Also, they are just a small group. When you think of the name “God Hates Fags” we should take it less serious by realizing how ridiculous this really sounds. Think of them as “Punish the Pickle Puffers”. I think that name shows just how silly they truly are. There is hate in many groups toward others and it can’t be stopped. To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Personally, I am more concerned about horrorcore than silliness like this. A fag is a cigarette, and a dike is an embankment for controlling water. For those who believe in Jesus, he said it best….”Forgive them Lord for they know not what they do.”

I remember this group being in the national news trying to attend the funerals of fallen soldiers who had been killed serving this country in Irag and Afghanistan. They also tried to disrupt the funeral services of Amish children killed by a gunmen in Eastern PA a year or so ago. They are the absolute lowest form of human beings hiding behind the guise of a church to prompt their twisted views. They will prey upon anyone going through their most trying time to get themselves on the nightly news. I hope the media outlets give them zero coverage. But in this day and age that probably will never happen.

  27. Concerned Mom says:

I have been reading a lot on this group (WBC) today and still can’t figure out what the purpose of mentioning Morgan’s name is. Are they saying she died b/c the world is sinning or that she sinned? I just want to understand and I can’t seem to figure it out.

I was so sad listening to that mom teach such hate to her beautiful little children. She seemed so full of hate. If only she took all that energy and passion and did something good with it. Very sad.

    Sorry. Jeeeez.
I thought it was important, seeing as it would be the first time you had suggested a motive for Morgan’s murder other than a random/semi-random sexually-motivated act that ended in murder.

Also, I previously had suggested a hypothesis that perhaps the 4 white BIB were angry-racist-skinhead-types “blown off” by Morgan when she approached presumably black UVA BB players- and were infuriated by it. Hence, a racially-motivated hate crime.

My perception of you is that you are a highly intelligent person with a very good heart and direction in life. That said, when you write something- I figure it is always well thought out, and has a purpose. That is probably not always the case. Sometimes you try to tell us things when you can’t come right out and say it directly. SO, I guess these things sometimes lead me to look for things that are not always there in your responses. Plus, right now… I have WAY too much time on my hands. Eventually, I won’t be able to contribute(and I use that word lightly) nearly as much. Maybe that will give you a sense of relief. lol

Your right, I always have a purpose, I don’t always like it to be overt, and sometimes I will not be in a position to expand or answer further query.

That said, if you dont mind that I can’t always answer, I dont mind the questions.

Not a question that I would normally ever ask, as it’s certainly not any of our business. I am just wondering if it’s perhaps germane to her murder.

on the other hand, I’m glad I don’t understand their thinking …

Okay — there is perhaps an angle — *PERHAPS* — big perhaps — the aclu can get involved as a hate crime — if their intent is to incite people to riot against gays or something that either VT or Morgan did — perhaps that could be considered a hate crime — while they have the right to free speech, they cannot deliberately lie — and since they can’t show a direct link to channel God, then they can’t prove it is true God sent Morgan’s killer, and they could be sued for defamation of character — perhaps — I’m not a lawyer — but since the killings at VT, under Homeland Security and all the new stuff — it’s possible VT dean could lock down the VT campus as least —

Asking questions I don’t have the answer to is in my nature. Working things to a resolution is also my nature. I wish that I could do more. If you answer 2 out of 10 questions, that’s 2 answers I didn’t have previously.

I have two driving factors for wanting resolution in this case. One, to stop these people from hurting another woman. Two, so that there can be a trial and conviction in order for the Harrington family to further their healing process. So they can find a way to move forward in their lives after this unfathomable tragedy. I do not believe that kind of healing can truly start until those two things come to pass. At least it wouldn’t for me.

Forensic experts in Charlottesville say the Morgan Harrington homicide case is taking longer than normal because of the condition of the DNA collected from her body.

To pay even a modicum of attention to such radicals is to validate the very existence of these lower life forms.

I suggest everyone make a concerted effort to do just the opposite; that is, to invalidate them by ignoring them. I appreciate just how difficult that will be; I’d find it nigh-to-impossible to do myself. However, to attempt to shout them down or otherwise overtly minimize them will only draw attention (read: media attention) to them, which serves their very purpose.

TA: I find no connection between their antics, the CV Take Back The Night Rally, and Morgan’s death per se. Theirs is, I believe, a transparent attempt to use the notoriety of her murder as a springboard for their own sick, twisted agenda.

    And they call themselves Christians?
    By what? By their love?
    I think not.

Has anyone on here seen the documentary “Dear Zachary”? It is a heart-breaking documentary film made by the best friend of a young man who was murdered by his sociopathic ex-girlfriend. There is much more to the story… many shocking twists. This murdered young man’s parents are amazing people who have become activists in Canada. What they endured is almost unbelievable- and then they turned around and are trying to help other people. If you can watch this film without becoming emotional, you do not have a soul. It is available on Netflix if anyone is interested. If you truly want to see a window into the behavior of a sociopath- this is a must see. She is disturbing.

    Dear BOC,
I am speechless, angry, sad, embarrassed and just ignorant as to why these groups exist. I know you know who I am but I live in Christiansburg, Va. about 10 minutes from Va. Tech and I am stunned that they exist and would do something like this and why pick on Va. Tech and Morgan? Her poor parents and brother!!! I have to wonder if a big pocket in nearby C’ville made a donation to prompt this. After what happened at Fort Hood due to a hate crime and circumstances way beyond and different from Morgan’s tragedy-why pick now??? Just a thought please do not post this, but PLEASE let BOC bloggers that people from Montgomery Co. are mortified about this, but we have decided to ignore this group and take the high road. We will not give them what they want publicity and a fight in order to make national news and headlines! I just got through telling my kids about them and to just ignore people like that- I have spent my whole life as a mom teaching my kids to be open-minded, non-judgemental,etc. and I am proud of this -I have good kids and now this happens. Sorry I am still reacting. Take care and you and your group mean so much to me -

Observer, I agree. Just let them inspire us to do some extra cancel-it-out good deeds, but far away from them. Let’s draw attention AWAY from them, and to Morgan, and to good.

After all, this is the same group who says Obama (whatever you may think of him, they are sure is the antichrist) will be deliberately increasing teen pregnancy, and then “Pretty soon he’ll propose a law that says these teenagers must bear their children so the starving impoverished people of this evil world can munch on them for food!”

Observer I am in total agreement with your post.

This group threws on the reaction they get from the hatred they spew.

If no one attended, if no one commented, if everyone acted like it was a normal day and they could neither see or hear them..they would walk away with their deflated egos.

But people keep feeding their fire ..just what they want..everywhere they go. The Amish shunned them..we should too.
