Morgan Harrington Murder: Coincidences or Clues ?
Disclaimer–
North Garden, VA– Morgan Harrington, the 20 year old fair-haired, radiant beauty, was brutally murdered after disappearing from the John Paul Jones arena the evening of October 17, 2009.
Morgans remains were recovered the morning of January 26, 2010 in a hayfield on Anchorage Farm, owned by David and Nancy Bass.
Since Morgan was found by Mr. Bass that blackest of days in January, there has been rampant speculation about her last hours and how she ended up in the creek bed of total strangers.
A sequence of events and incidents in the days and hours preceding and following the January 26, 2010, discovery of Morgan Harrington’s skeletal remains on Anchorage Farm continues to attract attention from pundits and volunteers dedicated to Morgan’s cause.
Although naysayers point to a lack of a viable connection, and police have disavowed a link, others say emergency services runs to a nearby fire and also other responses which are not supported by publicly available documentation has led to calls for more complete disclosure to eliminate any connection or chance of prank calls to misdirect or busy first responders.
The editors of www.blinkoncrime.com present a series of events occurring in Albemarle County, VA that pose the question:
What the Hell is going on and what does it have to do with Morgan Harrington’s murder?
The Monsoons of Albemarle County …. PD
Ok, maybe I meant “The monsoor”. Karl Monsoor that is.
Former Officer Karl Monsoor had been tugging on the shirtail of ACPD for years before he finally left with pocketfuls of sunshine. Almost 500 G’s.
It is not my intention to be glib, it is my intention to say that as one of the youngest police departments in the country, enacted in 1983, this tank needed algeacide before this past March.
Death By Cop.. January 1, 2010
Colby Eppard, described by some as a cross between Gomer Pyle and cool hand luke, had the rawest of deals growing up in Greene County.
According to his foster-mommy-aunt, Tammy Harlow Cox, Colby was hit by a car at a very young age and suffered a brain injury that apparently served to shape his future of home upheavel and juvenile detention facilities.
Ms. Cox, to whom Colby Eppard was entrusted for a time as a foster parent, is no stranger to the judicial system. Tammy was arrested for admittedly having sex with 3 High School seniors athletes on the Varsity Football Team, where her own sons attended. The same school Colby elected to leave without his diploma.
Colby’s family recalls better times, and I don’t think anyone believes this is the last we have heard of this case.
Specifically under VA statute, Greene County Captain Randall Snead was out of his jurisdiction, both when he was called about Colby stealing the patrol car and the fact that he was in North Garden, Albemarle County, looking for it. It would seem the Greene County Roster could accommodate a deputy vs. a captain to respond, no? Keep in mind, EVERY responding officer was put on desk duty pending the investigation, through at least February 9th, 2010.
While the attorney for the Commonwealth, Denise Lunsford has cleared all officers from all participating counties involved, none of the dash cams have been released despite requests through The Freedom of Information Act..
According to Ms. Lunsford, in an incident that spanned almost 70 miles and over 2 and a half hours where traffic was rerouted and stringers were used, Colby Eppard was allegedly wielding the 20 gauge Greene County Issue out the windows, not one LEO attempted to engage or respond to Eppard in an effort to get him to pull over, or negotiate his surrender at any time.
In fact, according to statements from Snead, Albemarle Deputies Fields and Marden, they were all in place on the south junction of 20 “in the event” he went that way, yet, they did not block traffic until after the stinger caused Eppard to crash.
My biggest question regarding this incident is: Did anyone ask Colby Eppard why he would take the truck and 2 rifles on New Years day ending up in Albemarle County?
Was it related to a New Years Eve occurrance of a friend, family member or associate of his? After Sgt. Hutchinson loses Eppard near the Nelson line, the next time he is seen is parked on Green Creek Rd, back in Albemarle.
What route did he take from 29 South to end up there? Was he seeking Red Hill Road where the overdose call came in to EMS the night before?
By all accounts he was a troubled young man with challenges throughout his young 18 years.
Additionally corroborated by those that knew him, he was never violent to anyone. There were over 6 Law Enforcement Officers from 4 different jurisdictions this man encountered before he hit just below Carters Bridge; 14 by the time the stolen vehicle ended up in the ditch.
Not one of them spoke or attempted to speak to Colby Wade Eppard at anytime he was on the police radio for over 2 hours. Was there an order given not to?
How is it that not one officer responded to Eppards threats, which were even being monitored by the media at this point in an effort to have a peaceful result to this situation?
Did Eppard have a cell phone with him and have the records been checked?
Did he call anyone, like Amber Rogers, his off-again girlfriend of 3 years? His brother Courtney or any of his friends?
In the preliminary release by the Virginia State Police, it stated Eppard returned to his crashed 2006 Ford Ranger truck prior to stealing the unmarked Green Cty car. If he were attempting to have a police stand off, why would he not take the two rifles he brought with him? He left his guns behind.
It also states in the report that Eppard is seen on the video from the STOLEN police car retrieving the shotgun from the trunk and loading it, how is that possible considering all the cameras are dash mounted?
Can someone explain to me how the officers have been cleared, but the footage of both Eppards actions and their responses, the very evidence of the incident cannot be released? One of the officers involved, Caleb Marden, was fired for reasons nobody is willing to comment on.
There is only ONE way that is legal; if is part of an ONGOING investigation.
So what investigation is it an active part of?
(Editors note: If Mr. Eppard put ANYONE’s safety at risk through his actions, in the end, I say what happened to him was done to protect others, which I support. That said, as it was not so long ago a Virginia Conservation Officer was indicted for the involuntary manslaughter of a 16 year old kid whose girlfriend he was trying to grab out of his moving car, and later had the charges dismissed, I think it is worthy of conversation.)
Byrd Watching DungSmoke – January 22, 2010
James Byrd Gunn, resident or squatter at 5027 Stoney Point Rd, Barboursville, VA owned by Piedmont Manor Land Trust, was busted for possession of Marijuana with intent to deliver, and possession of a firearm as a felon.
TODAY, Mr. Big Gunn is on the Run-Run. He was indicted on both counts Monday and declared a fugitive this afternoon.
CR10000107-00 GUNN, JAMES BYRD POSSESS MARIJUANA W/INTENT 06/07/2010 Active
CR10000169-00 GUNN, JAMES BYRD FELON W/ A FIREARM 04/08/2010 Fugitive
In a SEPERATE arrest on January 23rd, 2010, Jeremy Manning– Smith (JMS) with the cool 144 acre pad in Keswick, also indicted on 4/5/2010 , may turn to the fivefold plan to help him out. JMS keeps a cool $55K recession-proof wad around for emergencies. Mr. Manning-Smith is a long time composter, although he never really states what he is growing.
Lisa Powers, copperworks and the fivefold planners say burn the dung. They are pals, although I doubt she is securing his bond.
Cash Runs OUT.. January 24th, 2010
Jason Todd Cash, with NO CHARGES OR WARRANTS PENDING allegedly tries to kill a cop when he is stopped in Nelson Cty in a vehicle registered to someone in Buckingham County. Remind you of anyone? He ran from the scene, leaving the vehicle and eluded police on foot.
The vehicle was impounded. He apparently is driving on a revoked license, which county has that occurred in? We will get back to J-money.
NON Garden Party…. January 25th
At approximately 10PM on the evening of January 25, Albemarle County Fire and rescue services responds to a call at the 37 acre farm of award winning gardening and horticulture experts John Sauer and his wife Cathy Clary. It is listed as a tactical incident rescue and as of March 24, 2010 is still an open incident. What was it? Who or what needed rescuing?
Mr. Sauer is the long-time gardner for Carr’s Hill, the residence of the President of UVA. Carr’s Hill was the former site of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity until 2003 when it was moved by the city to it’s current location on Culbreth. Ms. Clary is a horticulture proffessor at UVA, and most recently taught a home landscaping course which included a field trip the afternoon of Saturday October 17, 2009.
The Sauers are also members of Piedmont Landscaping Association, which is open to anyone in the landscaping field and the Virginia Cooperative Extension.
Interestingly enough, there were several fire alarm activations on the UVA campus on this same day. Faulkner House reported a residential fire around 4:10 am.
Threes Company, Four is Combustible..Jan 26th
Sometime after 10PM, the residential fire at 3323 Sutherland Rd breaks out.
This would be the fire that is still an OPEN INCIDENT.
This fire,as you can see, was no curling-iron-left-on.
It allegedly started after the residents were asleep, although they had all apparently packed their belongings and were on a month to month lease, 2 had already moved out.
In fact, according to Peruvian vacationer and dog owner of Blanca, the pit bull that perished in the blaze, he was not aware of the fire until days after the fact because he was with friends in Peru.
Convenient, if you ask me, as he has a previous weed distribution and subsequent traffic charge in December 2009.
Meet new pup to the left. In fairness to fair-weather k9’s of America, he was only asking for dog-sitting, and not on the lease. Choose your kenneling wisely people.
The residential fire at the 3000 block of Sutherland Rd has some issues. For starters, you have the first press release regarding the possible accidental fire since as far back as 2003 before a cause determination has been made.
Additionally the release itself appears to have missed the fact that approximately 2 hours after the last apparatus departs, there is an additional call back to the property requiring 12 responders within minutes of the discovery of Morgan Harrington’s remains. They may have literally passed each other on Route 29; they definitely would have heard the dispatcher.
The former owner of the Sutherland property is buried on Anchorage Farm. A relative of the current owners has hunted the Anchorage Farm property.
The band in the image on the left is pictured practicing in the Sutherland home.
A firefighter, whose identity blinkoncrime is choosing to withhold, who fought the fire, without sleeping took an impromptu trip to New Jersey with his ..”aunt, uncle, cousin, his cousins uncle and a friend..” at 10:23PM January 27th, driving straight through without stopping and returned to North Garden by 1:45PM January 28th. Through his own facebook postings, he spends the bulk of his time when he is not volunteering for the North Garden Fire Department at his cousins; a Toco Hill address also listed as the home for a recently released registered sex offender.
Retired Greene Sheriff Takes His Own Life.. January 28
There is no evidence to suggest that William “Willie” Linwood Morris’s suicide has anything in common with the Morgan Harrington’s case directly, with the exception that there are obviously folks that knew him as well as other individuals being discussed. I have spoken with a family member, and an individual who has known him for twenty years and by those accounts Willie was in deep discomfort from the tinnicus he suffered from.
He took care of every detail prior to ending his life behind the barn on his farm in Stanardsville, VA, including withdrawing the cash for his own funeral.
Willie Morris was found by Captain Randall Snead, who was allegedly supposed to be on desk duty until the Eppard case investigation was completed. According to Commonwealth Attorney Denise Lunsford, that was not completed until February 9, 2010, almost 2 weeks later.
Cash is Busted on a Tip.. March 19
Not long out of Nelson County jail for a non-violent offense, Jason Todd Cash is being held in Albemarle County jail since his arrest around 1am the morning of Friday March 19.
One has to wonder if the tip about where Jmoney was hanging out on Secretary Sand Rd from his kin in Amherst.
Clint Cash, a registered sex offender was arrested in December on a felony parole violation and is facing some heavy time . His wife Donna, had just pled guilty to a misdemeanor the day before the tip came in regarding JT Cash’s whereabouts and received a suspended sentence.
Jason Cash was apprehended with help from Bink, the new Albemarle County k9 when the house he was staying in on Secretary Sands was raided and he attempted to stay hidden inside.
What are Coincidences… What are clues?
The aforementioned volunteer for NGVFD lives in same stretch of Secretary Sands Rd.
Yet another relative of Jason Cash, a registered Sex Offender, shares an employer with the cousin of “volunteer”, and volunteer; specializing in outdoor landscape lighting.
Colby Eppard was stopped in the area of Green Creek Rd that is a large parcel of land owned by Cash family member.
As far as making allegations in this report, there are none. The investigation of the events contained herein are entirely based on public information and witness accounts.
I have come to the conclusion that while we cannot say specifically which one of the issues discussed directly relate to the murder of Morgan Harrington, a primary or secondary scene integral to the investigation of same, and the hunt for her killer(s), but I do believe the incidents need to explored fully in a public forum.

Dear tarheelvr, Thank you for your story-bless your heart! I have shed tears reading about your life, and you deserve nothing but happiness the rest of your life.
Dear Hummingbird, I am the proud owner of a Russian Box Turtle named Trotsky and kuddos to you for trying to help the poor turtle. Also, I am a compadre in your old state. Those pesky racoons can be special and do not forget they can have rabies-I know you know that but as you can tell I am also a mom-my kids used to think thier names were B. Careful!
What better way to muddy an investigation than to salt a key piece of evidence at a site where hundreds of college age occupants have moved in and out over the years and people come and go at all hours of the day and night.
Perhaps we have the overthinking underachiever at work.
This SCREAMS chic to me, as I have told you all months ago..
Team and I have been POURING through myspaces/facebooks by the hundreds, among other resources and I swear, I feel like at any given moment I am going to see something of Morgans in the corner of a shot.
Can’t explain it.

I so badly wish Ramona would come back and chat. IIRC she is in Richmond, and there is sad drug stuff (OD deaths) going on there. I can’t help but wonder if someone is dealing really bad drugs in VA lately. Would *love* to hear Ramona’s take on everything that has been happening. Ramona, I mean that sincerely if you are reading.
loose lips sink ships
I know the local HVAC/plumbing community has some private tradesman only “watering holes” around town….. I bet this is old news by now
this was most likely discussed at length over shots of George Dickel or Virginia Gentleman or smoking/ snorting ……
hard to believe BG(S) is just out there waiting for LE to come knocking on their door.
oh I guess not…. they thought they could get away with murder…..
Blink- I seem to have lost a post- should I resend it or is it being held even though I do not see it in moderation?
Great research today guys- keep it coming!!
Now?
No, not holding anything and I do not have it, tell me if you don’t see it.

It was from the Roanoke valley United Way employees
I found a cite as well…
“The reward for information about the case is now at $150,041. The rock group Metallica donated an additional $50,000 to the fund and the employees of the United Way of the Roanoke Valley contributed $41 in an office collection. That’s on top of the $100,000 the Harrington’s and their friends provided to the Crime Stoppers organization. ”

MarshmallowWI: Thanks for that link! I do enjoy going back to previous posts and readung. Apparently, after going back, Justdesserts had many responses and dialougue with others concerning this incident, Kee Kee and Fish. If I may, re post Just desserts post. We haven’t heard much as of late from JD, as he is one of my favorite posters amongst others of course! . I thought it might be a good re post for us to read through again. Knowing what we now know. Thanks to just desserts.

Hey Chad, in a post in last night’s wee hours (2/26 @1:52 AM) you chided me (“Chad-ed” me?) good-humoredly about my dropping in the story of Ramona T’s close encounter with a bullet in 08/08:
“C’mon desserts, you can’t put something out there like that and expect
us all to know this.”
Fair enough, Chad. In fact, I had meant to post a link to the story (and brief video) right after my line, “Did the Roanoke police convince her that it was only a stray?”. . .
http://www2.wsls.com/sls/news/local/article/bullet_hits_car_windshield_near_mall/15693/
. . . but somehow forgot to put it in and then, on getting to the end of my post and finding it overlong, was too abashed to cast back and ask “did I leave anything out?” (Well, yeah, the Book of Job and “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” not much else.)
Anyway, I hope that link comes along this time and anyone who’s interested in the event or in elusive Ramona will take a look at it. (I know that J2K excerpted that article in responding today to what I’d said, but she left out a point or two that may weigh in your decision, was that bullet aimed, or stray?)
Chad, you went on to say, “. . .if this is indeed a true incident (not saying that ‘stray bullets don’t ever happen to just miss someone’s head”), [it] could very well support the theory that there may have been. . .a nefarious drug, or other unknown violent connection. . . indirectly, or directly with Morgan and/or her friends.” In this conclusion, you were picking up what I was laying down—not that it spells out the who, or what, or how of connection between Morgan’s circle and a set of unknown, but sometimes violent others. The music world that Morgan and the “friends” frequented isn’t static or locally self-contained; some of the same names keep turning up in all kinds of settings, clearly roving around to many events or connected to multiple bands, promoters, etc. Trying to get an organized view of the personas in that world Keekee once aptly likened to trying to get a handle on “a morphing ball of mercury.” One would have to be Pollyanna to think that drugs aren’t fixtures in that world, and it’s no revelation that where you find illegal drugs, you’ll probably find violence. Inhabit that world, violence may find you.
This is not to say, Q.E.D., that drug-related violence took Morgan’s life, or that it aimed to take Ramona’s. (Wouldn’t you love to hear HER take on that?) Or that there is any direct linkage between those two events, though why would you dismiss it out of hand? True, a year and two months elapsed between the incident with Ramona and Morgan’s abduction/murder. But did the cast of characters in their lives change utterly in the meantime? We don’t know who fired the bullet that went through Ramona’s windshield at 2 AM on a Sunday morning and lodged at head level in the frame of the driver’s side door. You’ll see the news report leaves unclear whether the alleged “shots fired on Marr St.” came at the same time as the bullet hit the car. We learn it was the police who suggested that the bullet might be a stray (implying connection to the Marr St. shots, yet not only declining to link the events conclusively, but then quite strangely digging the bullet out of the car and casually turning it over to Ramona). <[Belleboyd, IMO you’re right to ask, “What the heck’s up with that?” “No harm, no foul”?? Or was it, “Hey, girlie, it’s 2AM, you weren’t hangin’ at the mall; you were lucky this time, but get yourself home to bed.”] That area, right next to Roanoke’s biggest mall and a bunch of interstate hotels with the lounges and music acts they bring, is not “high crime” and is far from ghetto; it’s tight packed working-class houses with apartment buildings sprinkled in. But several days later, when the story was filed, there’d been no arrests “in either [???] shooting incident” and presumably, with the evidence of the bullet simply handed over to Ramona, no real investigation there.
So, once again, speculation’s left at center stage. I brought the shooting incident to the board’s attention because I won’t be surprised if, once arrests and trials have been made, the floating musical party scene will have supplied not only a BG to murder Morgan, but possibly a “drug ring” in which surprising figures may be involved. That’s speculation, though it might help explain the drawn out LE investigation. What seems almost necessary, anyway, unless you’re determined that Morgan was grabbed up at random by a total stranger, is a closer look at particulars of that musical scene in which Morgan and her friends were involved, and an overdue inquiry into the nature of that friendship—what (beyond “auld lang syne”) bound them together, what may have pulled them apart.
Sorry; it seems I’ve bent your ears again. ‘Night, all
How is finding something the killer likely intended for you to find considered a huge break?
It’s not.
I think the break is that it yielded DNA, and for me, if that was all they had, there is no way they would have released it, I see that as a good sign.
That said, why that building? There’s much more high profile places they could have left it?
As it was not weathered or ruined, who had it? Why did they keep it?

Acho says:
But Peggy, what if one of those perps walks these routes on a daily basis? I talked about the UVA bio labs — they and other offices are on the way to JPJA from Jefferson Park Avenue (JPA) and all those heavily student-populated streets. They and/or JPJA could be workplaces for someone. The shirt was found just beyond the Corner, which is a big restaurant/bar scene. What if it is part of someone’s routine to be near all of these spots? (I still think the t-shirt could’ve been a plant, but perhaps done by someone who regularly spends time in the Corner/JPA neighborhoods.)
Acho – would you happen to know off the top of your head if the Materials Science and Engineering fields would be in this area? Particularly, Wilsdorf Hall?
Fish writes:
“Redhilllocal! Does everyone have a p.o. box in North Garden or is there home delivery?”
There is indeed home delivery, but many folks prefer to use the post office. (I’m one of the latter, in my nearby Albemarle hamlet; my best friend is one of the former, and he’s in North Garden not two miles from AF.)
OK good news turtle still alive.
I just checked the container he was put in, we all thought he was dead and were waiting for the authorities to come get him and lo and behold he moved!! Like I said he is pretty big and had survived the night with no water tough old critter. So I washed out his original tub put his familiar “rocks” in there and put him in it. His head is ok with a couple of nips on his legs but his tail is bitten clear off. He kind of slid walked into his old abode and now has some food in there while we are waiting for the animal rescue people to come get him.
I have made the boys downstairs promise to follow through for this crusty old survivor who refuses to be a victim. I will closely monitor his progress. I guess he just retreated into his shell and played dead.
Cannot wait to tell my daughter when I pick her up from school that in fact we saved the turtle from the raccoons ……. sorry to be so OT Blink and all with everything major going on at BOC right now.
Promise to behave myself in the future. LOL
He needs a name.. I vote.. Tenacious T

Edit corrections: Should be **re-doing, not redung (no pun intended considering this article!)
Also should read now instead of **know.
Acho, sorry if I gave you a headache reading my post!
About Morgan’s shirt: Was it a trophy for a while?, To play with police? To draw attention to that area and not AF- set up an RSO?
?
Not him, never gonna be him, friend.

Comment from Blink on March 16:
“It was found on 15th st side. there is just a few, but up against the building, and to the left away from Grady there is a a bunch of shrubs and trees if one were wishing to hide it
B”
———————————————-
So ….it was not like it was displayed for the whole wide world to see, but rather discreetly placed in order for it to be found? By a search party perhaps?
I personally believe it was placed there to be found, as a message to someone.
B
Is it possible the person who said they found the shirt is actually the one that “planted” it there? If they were trying to mask a crime they could easily say their DNA is on the shirt b/c they picked it up and touched it when they found it.
It’s not unheard of for people who perpetrate these kind of crimes to somehow insert themselves into the case.
Just seems an odd place to discard a shirt–unless of course they are purposely trying to taunt LE.
I’m certainly not accusing this person of anything, just throwing it out there for discussion.
At this point anything is possible!
JMHO
Peggy
Except he specifically said they knew not to touch it, which they did not.

I couldn’t find it Blink so I just rewrote it- thanks for looking-
tarheellvr, thank you for sharing your experience. I hope your words will reach someone else out there in lurkingdom that needs to hear them. Your post was beautiful and haunting. I know you already know this, but sometimes it helps to hear it again- IT WAS NOT YOUR FAULT-
Highlander- you are welcome and thank you again for sharing that idea
Hummingbird- so glad you saved the turtle Tenacious T is right1 Here’s to more victory’s for the victims!! *clink*
Chad- yes, We sure could use just desserts with us now- By the way, we could also use your thinking skills, Enquirer- Where are you guys?
Thank you to everyone including Dr. Harrington that brought the news here today.
After months of not being able to ascertain the truth and months of the truth coming out in tiny droplets, I feel like with DNA being found on the Morgan’s shirt it is the beginning of an avalanche coming down the mountain.
I agree with Blink and acho, you still have a chance to be courageous. I too, see you as a human being that got caught up in a very bad situation. Come forward now, help the police, before it is too late.

Lt Rader said “that one courageous phone call” …
See, they are still willing to consider you courageous. It is not too late to make that call and turn your life around.
Lift that weight off your shoulders.
You can be that courageous person.
I can tell you that individual would have my full support for taking that step, without question, regardless of whether or not they may have already covered for someone. We don’t care.
B
By the way Blink, I know exactly what you mean, in thinking, in one of these pics you will look in the corner and find something of Morgan’s… Yeah, I definitely think things are a shaking loose- once an avalanche begins- it is hard not to be swept up in it- you are pretty much at its mercy. I hope they realize this.
I was also curious about the shirt. I seem to remember reading a really strange story about its being found and some plain clothes LE going door to door asking if anyone had knowledge of it? Also, could someone have intentionally tainted the evidence on the shirt? Right now I feel the words of the day are “Trust NoOne”.
Completely O/T but I had to share with my Blink family. My son’s house caught fire today and totally destroyed it, thank God no one was hurt. What I wanted to share was the goodness of his neighbors. The neighbor who lives behind him is raising her grandson and we always thought as he was growing up he was going to be trouble, boy did he prove us wrong today! He spotted the fire and yelled for his grandma to call 911 and ran over to my son’s house and busted down the front door and saved my son’s German Shepard. After everything calmed down and they allowed my son to go back in and try to salvage what he could another neighbor walked over and told him not to worry they would keep an eye on the rest of the things in the house since he can’t stay there (the FD condemned it). They handed him a card as they left and and inside was a $200 gift card to Wal-Mart. My 34 year old son broke down and cried like a baby. You truly don’t realize the good in people until something bad happens and with all the bad we see I just wanted to share this with you guys.

I am so sorry to hear that. That you have the strength of character to come on here and tell this story to celebrate the kindness shown to your son speaks volumes about the lady you are.. God Bless
B
Many people seem to think, myself included, that a female planted the shirt. I had been thinking a female. I don’t want to say why again, I got smashed the last time I said it, but Blink, you took notice as I recall.
I would like to speak to “the girlfriend, fiancee, wife” of this person for a minute Blink, if I may
TURN HIM IN and maybe they’ll go easier on you. The truth will come out and it’s going to be real ugly. You’re still going to jail but maybe they won’t kill you. Tic Toc, and we are very patient.
What do we know about the discovery of the shirt, other than the place and the date? As I recall back at the end of January when this was first being discussed, the shirt was being dismissed as being hers, in large part because there was some thinking that the area would have been processed forensically in a much more public way. I also recall some criticism of the manner in which police “canvassed” the neighborhood. Anyone else remember this or have any insight on that?
Kathy — I am so sorry to hear about the fire at your son’s house — that can be so devastating. Thank you for sharing the story, which really does show how the kindness of others can carry through the tough times.

Are you possibly referring to someone from a band who used to practice at the burnt house in NG?

Greetings Blinkers:
So many posts to respond too….ugh…hummingbird, I was so glad that you posted that the turtle is alive and well! So very good to hear from you! I am glad you are singing a song of hope again for Morgan. Please stay here with us.
So many I want to respond to but I wanted to reserve a separate post for dreamedit.
Dreamedit: ( what a great handle)

For a first time post, that was pretty good! You will get all sorts of responses from others here, but indeed, as blinkers, we all truly welcome you here.
Blink welcomes all ideas theories, and we welcome you as a first time poster. It was a good one. As I read your post, I was particularily interested in your dream/ vision of the weapon/pond portion which refers to the abduction part? Can you expand on that? If you can post anything more, including perhaps a detail or another dream vision of where the abduction may have occurred? Disgarding the weapon in a pond?
Thanks in advance, and I hope you will post again!

Acho – would you happen to know off the top of your head if the Materials Science and Engineering fields would be in this area? Particularly, Wilsdorf Hall?
*****
I am not Acho, but I can answer this since Acho hasn’t answered yet and I happen to be here. Yes, the Materials Science and Engineering buildings are in this area. This would be considered the science area of grounds. The Chemistry building is in this area, too, in case you are going there next. I have no idea what Wilsdorf Hall is (buildings around grounds are not always known by their official names, or maybe it has been built since I graduated), so maybe Acho can provide more insight there. If it is a science building, though, it is probably in that area.
@Blink – ‘This SCREAMS chic to me, as I have told you all months ago..’
or Chicks? Morgan’s partying with the guys…spirals way out of control. Girlfriends come on the scene, beat her to death, now you have a group of people trying to cover it up… scattered items all around town, hide her body in AF. Perhaps the shirt was left THAT day, perhaps it was purposely done as a threat, or stupidly placed out of desperation… my thought is…you have evidence..if you want to keep it hidden..why not burn it? why display it?
Kathy, I’m so glad your son was not hurt and that he is blessed with wonderful neighbors. I like to believe there are far more good, kind people in this world we all share than there are bad guys.
I hope all who have read this will realize, most fires occur quite innocently. I even saw that someone linked the report on the two mobile homes destroyed this morning in Albemarle County, why, I have no idea. I mean no disrespect to the people who live in this trailer court, but many of the homes are pretty old. No doubt, an electrical fire is quite believable. From local news reports, the families were lucky, even though they lost their homes and pets. They were able to save their children.
I got ya.
If you need me to, I will e.
Have you discussed with someone trained in this area? If you have not, I recommend it immediately.
Chances are, your reactions are being ingested and may cause X to withdraw or withhold; undesirable.
Let me know what you need.

Re: Chad said….
That area, right next to Roanoke’s biggest mall and a bunch of interstate hotels with the lounges and music acts they bring, is not “high crime” and is far from ghetto; it’s tight packed working-class houses with apartment buildings sprinkled in. But several days later, when the story was filed, there’d been no arrests “in either [???] shooting incident” and presumably, with the evidence of the bullet simply handed over to Ramona, no real investigation there.
&&&&&
Chad, no offense, and don’t jump on me, I’m just now getting to my Blinking for the night, at 10pm, but your take on the Valley View Mall area is not entirely accurate. While there are SOME nice neighborhoods in the vicinity of VVM, it is surrounded by, how can I say it nicely, “pub-lick” and subsidized housing, with huge drug dealing volume and constant need for police presence. Drug thugs within walking distance through fields surrounding the mall, and, stray bullets, especially late at night, not at all surprising. Based on what I remember reading, Ramona’s stray bullet incident is probably just that. Not saying it couldn’t have been targeted, but, MOO, it was incidental. That said, I’ll probably read further into the thread and find that you or someone else has already qualified that and moved on in the conversation! Anywho, I can’t often add much to the thought here at BOC, but I do know Roanoke, and the drug issues and hot spots there, and neighborhoods I have ridden through with high risk. VVM late at night is definitely one of them.
Hummingbird,
I hope Tenacious T. recovers. I work in the animal field and unfortunately stories like this abound, especially in/near a university town with kids coming and going. We’ve had folks come in with cats that have been abandoned in empty rentals to starve. Thank you for your kindness. It doesn’t surprise me as it seems most folks on here seem to have caring hearts. By the way, please get the turtle to someone who knows proper diet as these guys often get a calcium and phosphorus imbalance which can kill them. My friends who are cat lovers found their beloved cat torn to shreds in their garage which had a pet door. The coons will also come into your house if you have a pet door. Try not to fault the coons. They are animals and don’t know better (unlike humans who do!). I would recommend calling an animal wildlife rehabber (not the police or animal control) who has an interest in humanely (meaning the animal lives) trapping and relocating the coons. Don’t try it yourself. For those of you who have outdoor dogs and cats (I’m a believer in indoor or kenneled pets) don’t leave their food out at night as it invites hungry visitors and could lead to disease (or worse) to your pets.
Thank you B. It was just a creepy incident and a chance meeting. That’s all. Shook me up a bit. I apologize for the confusion of my posting ability. I think that I must have sent it 15 times. It just never showed up in moderation. I don’t know what happened but as I in the mountains maybe it’s just the way cell service works.
I do apologize. Please accept?
But you never think that you ever would see someone that you never met before, then searched side by side with, and then see them again, on your home turf. Yikes. I’m goin’ believe it was a look-a-like.
In regards, to the t-shirt. You ask “Why that building?” Well, why? Could it be that one of the participants lived there at one time or maybe just slept on the couch. There are plenty of other places to leave that shirt and it was not exposed to the elements?
A shirt left out a couple of days looks bad.
If found on the 5th or thereabouts, then how would he/they/she, know that the search would take to those neighborhoods?
Maybe the placement has nothing to do with the search and just the building. Or visa-versa
Thanks Redhill and rvrb. I just would imagine that all the p.o.boxes have been looked at.
Tarheelvr…As I sat out on my deck this morning, a magnificent swallowtail was drinking nector from my flowers and as I watched, I thought of Morgan. That delicate butterfly could very well have been her as I gained immense peace just looking at the butterfly’s beauty. Morgan has touched ALL of us. Morgan is with us and I believe like my butterfly, she flits around from place to place with love and comfort to those of us who need it.
&&&
Thank you, THL, for sharing your story. I don’t communicate with the warmth that others on here convey, but your words say so much about your ability to still experience peace, and an appreciation for nature’s beauty and the comfort it can bring. You have captured Morgan’s essence so well.
Why does it seem like every time we get new information in this case the circle widens instead of narrowing?
Is it possible that the NGVFD firefighter named AT, prior to the Sutherland house fire, had told one of the residents of the house how to burn it down and leave no trace? Along with other firefighters, AT fights the fire, leaves after it’s out. He then and speaks with the fire starter, perhaps on the cell phone, and says “Chief sent us home but there’s still some of the house left. You need to finish it off”. They get called back out. OK, maybe too far-fetched.
Why does someone drive with half their family all the way to NJ and back? You could dispose of evidence in the Rivanna River… or just bury it in the George Washington National Forest somewhere. Do you drive to NJ to pick somebody up at Newark airport? To sell a large quantity of drugs…probably wouldn’t take the family. I don’t know. I am thinking out loud at this point because the further along we go the wider, not narrower, the suspect pool gets.
What if dreamedit is right, and we’re just dealing with one lone killer who enjoys stalking killing and is good at it? That’s what I believed at the very beginning, but my opinions have wandered all over the place over time.
Speaking of dreams, I know not everyone puts stock in them, and I think most of them are just neuron re-firings, but I do believe they can be prophetic. The night of September 10, 2001 I dreamed about 2 planes flying into buildings. I woke up thinking “what the heck random dream was that? I haven’t had to fly on business in forever. oh, well, must be because my sister is traveling this week”. Went to work and forgot about it, started my day, turned on the radio…you get the picture. Now the planes in my dream were small, not jets, dreams aren’t perfect. But I wonder about the ability of truths to travel through time and space. Maybe farmer Bass woke up early for no good reason on January 27th and looked out the window from his lofty perch and saw a fire blazing in the distance and thought “maybe I’ll check to see what else the wind has stirred up”.
I, too, need a special room devoted just for charts, maps and photos of persons of interest, house fires, worldly possessions, etc. Too many coincidences and contradictions.
Hummingbird says….I didn’t really like those raccoons much and completely OT of course but would love to hear from any one of my Virginian compadres what they know about these creatures and their illicit nightly habits!!
&&&&
Hummgingbird, don’t know about LA, but if it were here in the Mid-Atlantic, and the raccoons attacked the turtle, I would have it’s carcass tested for rabies! Raccoons, I believe, carry rabies, and a live turtle is an odd choice for something they would attack. I think they are more likely to scavenge dead stuff, like trash, especially in an urban area. Not to alarm you, but be wary of those critters. Especially if they look skinny and mangy, like a starved cat with long legs. They’re pretty nasty.
Hi, all — I am so far behind I will never get caught up –
but today I was thinking about that Southerland house fire — Blink, do you know which room that alleged curling iron was in ? Was it in the upstairs bedroom or upstairs bathroom — because ….
After my house fire, we went to fire school — which, actually, if you’ve got kids 10 and over, check w/ your local fire dept to see if they offer “fire school” — I lived in a large metropolitan county, so … but the class was extremely informative — and scarey —
Here is some of what I learned: fire doubles in size every 30 seconds — and …. ta da ….
Fire burns UP. The pix of the house fire in Blink’s article — that house was fully engulfed in flames —
And if the fire started upstairs, the only way the bottom floor could be engulfed like that is if the floor above it collapsed — but by the time that could happen, the fire depts should have been on the scene —
I have done multiple fire cases in my career — ins. companies will NOT pay if there is any doubt that someone else is responsible — ins. co’s favorite word is “subrogation” which may be why this fire has not been closed — or they will not pay if there is any suspicion of arson —
You know, all of these things may only truly be “coincidence” but geeze, how much bad luck can poor Morgan have had and how many coincidences can there be —
I know it sounds hokey, but Mercury is retrograde next week — watch and see what truth comes out —
I just feel pressure is being brought to bear and I’m just nervous the persons responsible are going to be taking a permanent trip out of C-vlle — hopefully LE will nab ‘em and give ‘em a free ride in the po po car straight to jail — do not collect $200 — do not pass GO —
PS: Shout out to Slowroller — please go easy on our Fish girl — she’s not a man hater — she’s a woman who has experienced unbearable pain when her sister was also brutally murdered and the loss of her best friend, her sis-in-law —
you’re a great poster and I really look forward to what you write, but Fish is my pal, too — thanks, Sky
May tomorrow be the day we have J4M ….
MsLAL:
Hello MsLAL. I am not from the Virginia area at all. You probably would want to refer to Justdesserts on your post. I was just reposting a post. Most of my post if you read the beginning, is a response from a poster. I know it hard to read where my words end, and where justdessertstarts. Mybad. Thank you though for providing that additional information.
I wonder if a person(s) who felt guilty returned back to the scene and removed Morgan’s shirt in that high time of stress after the fact. Perhaps there was a rift between the one(s) directly responsible for her death and the one(s) who helped conceal. (…the message…)
HokieHi
The science buildings are located on McCormack Road, not near 15th and Grady.
Team Tenacious T!!!
This thread is moving a shitton* faster than I can keep up with, peeps!
(*for you, fish)
This next one is from a page ago – where I was mentally noting responses to many of you before realizing I wouldn’t be able to post until midnight that way…)
B, fish – re: OD in NG
Yes. “suddenly” I believe was the adverb used.
Also, ladies: B, you responded (in regard to Colby’s last ride through Albemarle County -
“well Fish, we dont really know if he blew by Red Hill, he was unaccounted for until her was spotted by Green Creek.”
(Things that make you go, Hmmmmm…)
Peggy – re: Strategically tossed property?
You mused: “It’s strange how everything is so scattered about. Purse was found in parking lot, shirt in c-ville and Morgan was eventually discovered at AF.”
THis is the first time I’ve considered that it’s certainly possible that the same mindset that drove someone to discard MH’s T-shirt on 15th might have compelled him or her to toss the bag when all was done and run from. (This is a big deal for me, as some here may attest.)
Next up: Where there’s smoke…
North Garden Volunteer Firefighter Cedric W. – our man with the hopeful tip…
This is nothing earth-shattering, but it was rather striking (to me). On his fairly active FB page, down at Jan. 26, the locals reacted (weeks before Rader’s presser on such) It’s in the form of comments to his post that a body was found:
January 26 at 1:01pm.Julia Peery: Wow right in the home town!!
January 26 at 1:03pm.Cedric Whindleton: Yea. Scary and sad
January 26 at 1:13pm.Stephanie Tanner Whindleton: It is scary because this
tells me that who ever put the body there knows that farm and the area. I
hope it is not her.
January 26 at 1:30pm.Cindy Garrison: that’s what i say. whoever did this knew
the area and being from north garden all my life this is really scary and
who knows how close this person actually is to any of us and our children!!
January 26 at 1:34pm.Stephanie Tanner Whindleton: you are right Cindy-this
person knew the body would not be found for some time and you are going to
have to pray to God for protection around your family and friends but…..I
pray to God that the snow, rain and wind has not disturbed evidence from
being found. So the person can and will be found.
…
Just really hits the locality’s meaning home for me (more so than before).
adair, fish, Hummingbird – re: Dream Weaver
Thank you for cheering on my (lengthy) post. I hope I did not offend anyone – just felt the need to express myself. Verbosely. *clinks* to you all…
Oh, and fish?
“Blink: I’m really worried now.
J2K, a mongo editor and
WordGirl, an inksliner?
What am I doing here?! I misspell and use a shitton of !!!!!!!!!! (yes, that is a unit of measure! j2k)”
Ha! See above. “Mongo Editor” … I am going to Have to use that in some way…
ConcernedBystander – re: Ced’s Timely Tip
You noted: “North Garden Volunteer Firefighter Cedric Whindleton posted on his facebook
January 27th at 2:22pm: ‘Gave VSP a tip about Harrington case and they
called me back. Hope it’s a lead.’
Interesting he sent in a tip shortly after MH was found and after working
the Sutherland fire.”
Wow – thanks for making that connection, C-by!
B- when you replied: “I took that to mean he spoke to a field agent, it got back to the
detectives and they called him”
Are you implying Ced told what knew to a field agent… at the Sutherland scene?
(What are the odds that a full 24 hours since it was *almost* certain to be MH on AF – but just after he interacted at the scene of the 3323 blaze – he calls suddenly has a tip? Occam’s Razor (without knowing all the circumstances, natch) would indicate he got a tip directly related to the Harrington case while at the site of the fire.
Again with the odd timing. And now – with the astounding research skills of the incomparable acho! – we’ve got additional potentials/direct ties to that rental…
That said, it’s possible when Ced contemplated the body’s location once it was determined to be Morgan – post firefighting through the night – he thought of local punks who were known to trespass/ATV/engage in tomfoolery in or around that farm, and *that* is the nature of the tip. But…
Anyway! My arm is getting sore from churning… and crap – someone’s going to have to rake up all this stuff falling from the tree. (Oh, but keep shaking – don’t stop!)
.
Missed *clinks* –
Mom3.0: Loved your onion post, and the delightful Graffiti Goat exchange with H-bird you inspired – you radiate such a warmth… missed you.
Amanda850: So good to see you here, and thanks for the greeting. It feels good to be jumping back in just as we all round what seems to be the final bend in this sad case…
*clink*
acho: See above. You amaze me.
That is all.
*clink*
I am so far behind in reading posts — but I did want to respond to Tarheelvr — bless your heart —
I am going to Cvlle next week — I am creating a memorial not just for Morgan, but in memory of all victims of violent crimes. I will think of you as I plant perennials which hopefully will live and bloom on and on for years to come.
It’s funny, I was working in my yard after work, but all day there was this little blue and white butterfly — one I’ve never seen before — and my thoughts turned to Morgan — there is some kind of beautiful bush that has all these white blooms all over it — the thing is covered w/ honey bees and swallowtail butterflies — hundreds of them — yellow and black — the man across the lane has a hive and sells the honey — it’s a reminder to me that in a world which seems to overflow w/ evil, there is beauty all around us — it’s up to each of us to choose what we see —
The Harringtons remind me of butterflies — they have had to hibernate in their crysalis (sp?) and now they are turning their deep sorrow and the lost of Morgan’s life into a beautiful butterfly spreading light and knowledge to try and prevent another crime against humanity.
The people who gather here are an incredible ensemble — we proudly wear our hearts on our sleeves and we will soldier on until there is J4M —
But I ask everyone to just consider — suppose this is not just a male BG — but a “couple” — a female involved — and it’s very possible the female lost it and ended Morgan’s life — so who is going to rat out whom?
I can’t remember, but I believe it was either Candace or Wordgirl who so wisely said: the first one in, gets the deal ….
I will continue reading tomorrow —
Peace to all — Sky
oh, yeah — <3 to you Blink — big time !
Thank you Hummingbird, Connie, Mom3.03, MsLal, and Blink. Reading the sincerity of your words made me weep. Sometimes I almost feel pretty and lots of times I feel normal. Yes, I’m most at peace when enjoying nature’s glory. Sometimes my precious little dog and kitties watch me as I cry. Then they nuzzle closer and closer and I believe they know the impact their presence has on me.
Sometimes when I look at my scars, I think of Morgan and what was done to her body. Sometimes I think “I’m aive and she’s not.” But the one constant I feel is how, even in death, she has touched me and reached places I had assumed were not reachable. She has helped me in ways I can’t seem to describe. I love you dear, precious Morgan. How lucky I am you chose to let me experience your beauty.
I, too, believe a woman is involved. How deeply I’m not sure, but at the very least, I believe she knows. If for no other reason in this world other than the fact she is a woman, she has to feel something. One of her fellow sisters was brutalized in ways many can’t fathom. I pray she listens to her inner self and does what she hasn’t been able to do so far, tell somebody.
Hummingbird my daddy always had strong, warm hands. A touch or caress from those hands could always bring me comfort. Like yourself, I hope precious Morgan gets to hold my Daddy’s hand and feel the same comfort he always gave to me.
Well, another great day in BOCville. I hate when I get so behind and have trouble responding clearly and thoroughly.
First , to Tarheel, I am so sorry you have endured all that you have. Despite your struggles you seem to have retained your dignity & heart. Thanks for sharing.
Hummingbird, quick funny. We have lots of raccoons in our yards at night. Our neighbor has a cat door into the garage, and a raccoon tried carrying a bag of dog bones thru the cat door, as well as opening the old extra fridge to raid it for food. We had to put a 4×4 against the door to keep them out of the fridge. They mainly have no people fear. I watch them sit & eat forgotten dog food on the deck, using their weird long hands. My dog is going to go through the glass door one night.
Acho, the article I noted this AM on NBC http://www.nbc29.com/, was about a mobile house fire, and then in March had an assault and a burglary. ( second incident in article is below above noted link in the related column) I did mention that I didn’t know if they were the same residences as I was late for work. Sorry to have led anyone on a goose chase. But there is an extraordinary amount of similar crimes going on in such small communities. IMO!
Thank you I believe Redly?, for the clues to the ff in question. I do have a question. Looks like he was studiously taking classes for the dept. So was he fired? What prompted the job change?
I missed another important clue I guess.
Chad, apologies to you & Just Deserts & J2K about Ramona & the drive by bullet. I had kee kee on the brain. What happened to her?
Hooray on the DNA evidence. I haven’t gone through all the posts yet. But I wonder if it’s inaccurate reporting or the fact it says the person who reported finding the shirt did not report it until the 11th? Could the person have held onto it, undecided or something? I don’t know. I have never heard the “Good God “quote before. http://www.readthehook.com/blog/index.php/2010/04/15/pantera-find-shirt-on-15th-street-was-morgan-harringtons/
@ Cvillenative:
Thanks for the response. From google, it does appear that it’s fairly close by. The reason I brought it up is that the hall in question is the office location for a professor who also happens to be a volunteer for the North Garden Fire Department.
Where were these people on the night of October 17th- early morning October 18th-? Were they working that night? Were they at the concert? Not too far too walk right? Do their girlfriends know where they were? Are they friends with others we know? 6 degrees separation right? The internet holds many answers- the avalanche is coming down the mountain.
Choose or loose-
Excellent work Concerned Bystander and all of BOC- eagerly awaiting more insights- Watch out for those trying to outrun the avalanche-
MsLAL is right! Raccoons ( I finally learned how to spell it correctly) are big-time scavengers and they will eat anything!
My 2 – 17 pound cats are scared of my turtle Trotsky.
The second year student who found the shirt is an interesting character…filled with drugs and rock-n-roll…

Blink, hold to study if need be…This is his “defaulted” account. My apologies if already posted and already seen.
Good, good, good posts all day.

It’s strange how everything is so scattered about. Purse was found in parking lot, shirt in c-ville and Morgan was eventually discovered at AF.
Would a perp actually scatter these items around like that? Wouldn’t they (or maybe it’s just one person) take more precautions to hide or discard these items–since they obviously took the time to hide her body(or at least they attempted to)?
Peggy
&&&& Peggy, you make good points. Says to my gut the perp has nuthin’ to lose, but thinks he cannot be caught, or, as others have pointed out, chicks involved. I can totally see a vindictive woman doing that stuff.

If anyone still hasn’t figured it out yet, the FF who fleed to NJ is indeed listed on the current roster of the North Garden Volunteer Fire Company. His initials are AT. It is a common name so if you are having trouble locating his exact FB page, you can get to it through his girlfriend’s FB page. His girlfriend is also listed on the NGVFC’s member page, and has the initials SS. Since her name is not as common, her FB page will initially be easier to locate.

In the link above, Dwayne Goodwin (arrested on drug charges) is listed as 29 years old. In a different online source, his age is given as 19 years old.
Do you know which is accurate?
&&&& Yet another new name in the mix. Thanks for not using initials. The two MW’s was just alphabet abuse! Finally figured that out.

If foreign DNA was found wouldn’t that be enough to get a search warrant? And, wouldn’t that be enough for LE to consider that person a suspect?
They still haven’t said they have a suspect or POI–they are still asking for that ONE courageous phone call–IF they found DNA it sounds like they still can’t make a connection(b/c finding DNA in itself is most certainly enough probable cause to obtain a sw)–unless the DNA they found on shirt (other than Morgan’s) is NOT in the system–and at this point it’s unknown whose DNA it actually is.
Do FF give DNA samples and fingerprints? One would think they’d have to in case of the unfortunate situation where they are killed on the job–they’d have to be able to identify them–right?
&&& Thinking the only DNA on shirt was Morgan’s. Not that we would be told any different at this point. But, with all the FF proximity, could very well be, thus the mass exodus of names on rosters? With all the interrelation of people being mentioned, it would be an interesting study just to see the shared DNA strains of the whole bunch.
