North Garden, VA– Morgan Harrington, the 20 year old fair-haired, radiant beauty, was brutally murdered after disappearing from the John Paul Jones arena the evening of October 17, 2009.

Morgan Bridge

Morgans remains were recovered the morning of January 26, 2010 in a hayfield on Anchorage Farm, owned by David and Nancy Bass.

Since Morgan was found by Mr. Bass that blackest of days in January, there has been rampant speculation about her last hours and how she ended up in the creek bed of total strangers.

A sequence of events and incidents in the days and hours preceding and following the January 26, 2010, discovery of Morgan Harrington’s skeletal remains on Anchorage Farm continues to attract attention from pundits and volunteers dedicated to Morgan’s cause.

Although naysayers point to a lack of a viable connection, and police have disavowed a link, others say emergency services runs to a nearby fire and also other responses which are  not supported by publicly available documentation has led to calls for more complete disclosure to eliminate any connection or chance of prank calls to misdirect or busy first responders.

The editors of www.blinkoncrime.com present  a series of events occurring in Albemarle County, VA that pose the question:

What the Hell is going on and what does it have to do with Morgan Harrington’s murder?

The Monsoons of Albemarle County …. PD

Ok, maybe I meant “The monsoor”. Karl Monsoor that is.

Former Officer Karl Monsoor had been tugging on the shirtail of ACPD for years before he finally left with pocketfuls of sunshine. Almost 500 G’s.

It is not my intention to be glib, it is my intention to say that as one of the youngest police departments in the country, enacted in 1983, this tank needed algeacide before this past March.

Death By Cop.. January 1, 2010

Colby Eppard driver seatColby Eppard, described by some as a cross between Gomer Pyle and cool hand luke, had the rawest of deals growing up in Greene County.

According to his foster-mommy-aunt, Tammy Harlow Cox, Colby was hit by a car at a very young age and suffered a brain injury that apparently served to shape his future of home upheavel and juvenile detention facilities.

Ms. Cox, to whom Colby Eppard was entrusted for a time as a foster parent, is no stranger to the judicial system. Tammy was arrested for admittedly having sex with 3 High School seniors athletes on the Varsity Football Team, where her own sons attended. The same school Colby elected to leave without his diploma.

Colby’s family recalls better times, and I don’t think anyone believes this is the last we have heard of this case.

Specifically under VA statute, Greene County Captain Randall Snead was out of his jurisdiction, both when he was called about Colby stealing the patrol car and the fact that he was in North Garden, Albemarle County, looking for it. It would seem the Greene County Roster could accommodate a deputy vs. a captain to respond, no?  Keep in mind, EVERY responding officer was put on desk duty pending the investigation, through at least February 9th, 2010.

While the attorney for the Commonwealth, Denise Lunsford has cleared all officers from all participating counties involved, none of the dash cams have been released despite requests through The Freedom of Information Act..

According to Ms. Lunsford, in an incident that spanned almost 70 miles and over 2 and a half hours where traffic was rerouted and stringers were used, Colby Eppard was allegedly wielding the 20 gauge Greene County Issue out the windows, not one LEO attempted to engage or respond to Eppard in an effort to get him to pull over, or negotiate his surrender at any time.

In fact, according to statements from Snead, Albemarle Deputies Fields and Marden, they were all in place on the south junction of 20 “in the event” he went that way, yet, they did not block traffic until after the stinger caused Eppard to crash.

My biggest question regarding this incident is: Did anyone ask Colby Eppard why he would take the truck and 2 rifles on New Years day ending up in Albemarle County?

Was it related to a New Years Eve occurrance of a friend, family member or associate of his? After Sgt. Hutchinson loses Eppard near the Nelson line, the next time he is seen is parked on Green Creek Rd, back in Albemarle.

What route did he take from 29 South to end up there? Was he seeking Red Hill Road where the overdose call came in to EMS the night before?

By all accounts he was a troubled young man with challenges throughout his young 18 years.

Additionally corroborated by those that knew him, he was never violent to anyone. There were over 6 Law Enforcement Officers from 4 different jurisdictions this man encountered before he hit just below Carters Bridge; 14 by the time the stolen vehicle ended up in the ditch.

Not one of them spoke or attempted to speak to Colby Wade Eppard at anytime he was on the police radio for over 2 hours. Was there an order given not to?

How is it that not one officer responded to Eppards threats, which were even being monitored by the media at this point in an effort to have a peaceful result to this situation?

Did Eppard have a cell phone with him and have the records been checked?

Cort EppardDid he call anyone, like Amber Rogers, his off-again girlfriend of 3 years? His brother Courtney or any of his friends?

In the preliminary release by the Virginia State Police, it stated Eppard returned to his crashed 2006 Ford Ranger truck prior to stealing the unmarked Green Cty car. If he were attempting to have a police stand off, why would he not take the two rifles he brought with him? He left his guns behind.

It also states in the report that Eppard is seen on the video from the STOLEN police car retrieving the shotgun from the trunk and loading it, how is that possible considering all the cameras are dash mounted?

Can someone explain to me how the officers have been cleared, but the footage of  both Eppards actions and their responses, the very evidence of the incident cannot be released? One of the officers involved, Caleb Marden, was fired for reasons nobody is willing to comment on.

There is only ONE way that is legal; if is part of an ONGOING investigation.

So what investigation is it an active part of?

(Editors note: If Mr. Eppard put ANYONE’s safety at risk through his actions, in the end, I say what happened to him was done to protect others, which I support. That said, as it was not so long ago a Virginia Conservation Officer was indicted for the involuntary manslaughter of a 16 year old kid whose girlfriend he was trying to grab out of his moving car, and later had the charges dismissed, I think it is worthy of conversation.)

Byrd Watching DungSmoke – January 22, 2010

Dung burning

James Byrd Gunn, resident or squatter at 5027 Stoney Point Rd, Barboursville, VA owned by Piedmont Manor Land Trust, was busted for possession of Marijuana with intent to deliver, and possession of a firearm as a felon.

In a SEPERATE arrest  on January 23rd, 2010, Jeremy Manning– Smith Manning Smith(JMS) with the cool  144 acre pad in Keswick, also indicted on 4/5/2010 , may turn to the fivefold plan to help him out. JMS keeps a cool $55K recession-proof wad around for emergencies. Mr. Manning-Smith is a long time composter, although he never really states what he is growing.

Lisa Powers, copperworks and the fivefold planners say burn the dung. They are pals, although I doubt she is securing his bond.

Cash Runs OUT.. January 24th, 2010

Jason Todd Cash, with NO CHARGES OR WARRANTS PENDING allegedly tries to kill a cop when he is stopped in Nelson Cty in a vehicle registered to someone in Buckingham County. Remind you of anyone? He ran from the scene, leaving the vehicle and eluded police on foot.

The vehicle was impounded. He apparently is driving on a revoked license, which county has that occurred in? We will get back to J-money.

NON Garden Party…. January 25th

At approximately 10PM on the evening of January 25, Albemarle County Fire and rescue services responds to a call at the 37 acre farm of award winning gardening and horticulture experts John Sauer and his wife Cathy Clary. It is listed as a tactical incident rescue and as of March 24, 2010 is still an open incident.  What was it? Who or what needed rescuing?

Mr. Sauer is the long-time gardner for Carr’s Hill, the residence of the President of UVA. Carr’s Hill was the former site of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity until 2003 when it was moved by the city to it’s current location on Culbreth. Ms. Clary is a horticulture proffessor at UVA, and most recently taught a home landscaping course which included a field trip the afternoon of Saturday October 17, 2009.

The Sauers are also members of Piedmont Landscaping Association, which is open to anyone in the landscaping field and the Virginia Cooperative Extension.

Interestingly enough, there were several fire alarm activations on the UVA campus on this same day. Faulkner House reported a residential fire around 4:10 am.

Threes Company,  Four is Combustible..Jan 26th

Sutherland Firefd

Sometime after 10PM, the residential fire at 3323 Sutherland Rd breaks out.

This would be the fire that is still an OPEN INCIDENT.

This fire,as you can see, was no curling-iron-left-on.

It allegedly started after the residents were asleep, although they had all apparently packed their belongings and were on a month to month lease, 2 had already moved out.

In fact, according to Peruvian vacationer and dog owner of Blanca, the pit bull that perished in the blaze, he was not aware of the fire until days after the fact because he was with friends in Peru.

Kevin Terlep

Convenient, if you ask me, as he has a previous weed distribution and subsequent traffic charge in December 2009.

Meet new pup to the left. In fairness to fair-weather k9’s of America, he was only asking for dog-sitting, and not on the lease.  Choose your kenneling wisely people.

The residential fire at the 3000 block of Sutherland Rd has some issues. For starters, you have the first press release regarding the possible accidental fire since as far back as 2003 before a cause determination has been made.

Additionally the release itself appears to have missed the fact that approximately 2 hours after the last apparatus departs, there is an additional call back to the property requiring 12 responders within minutes of the discovery of Morgan Harrington’s remains. They may have literally passed each other on Route 29; they definitely would have heard the dispatcher.

Sutherland

The former owner of the Sutherland property is buried on Anchorage Farm. A relative of the current owners has hunted the Anchorage Farm property.

The band in the image on the left is pictured practicing in the Sutherland home.

A firefighter, whose identity blinkoncrime is choosing to withhold, who fought the fire, without sleeping took an impromptu trip to New Jersey with his ..”aunt, uncle, cousin, his cousins uncle and a friend..” at 10:23PM January 27th, driving straight through without stopping and returned to North Garden by 1:45PM January 28th.  Through his own facebook postings, he spends the bulk of his time when he is not volunteering for the North Garden Fire Department at his cousins; a Toco Hill address also listed as the home for a recently released registered sex offender.

Retired Greene Sheriff Takes His Own Life.. January 28

There is no evidence to suggest that William “Willie” Linwood Morris’s suicide has anything in common with the Morgan Harrington’s case directly, with the exception that there are obviously folks that knew him as well as other individuals being discussed. I have spoken with a family member, and an individual who has known him for twenty years and by those accounts Willie was in deep discomfort from the tinnicus he suffered from.

He took care of every detail prior to ending his life behind the barn on his farm in Stanardsville, VA, including withdrawing the cash for his own funeral.

Willie Morris was found by Captain Randall Snead, who was allegedly supposed to be on desk duty until the Eppard case investigation was completed.  According to Commonwealth Attorney Denise Lunsford, that was not completed until February 9, 2010, almost 2 weeks later.

Cash is Busted on a Tip.. March 19

Not long out of Nelson County jail for a non-violent offense, Jason Todd Cash is being held in Albemarle County jail since his arrest around 1am the morning of Friday March 19.

One has to wonder if the tip about where Jmoney was hanging out on Secretary Sand Rd from his kin in Amherst.

Clint Cash, a registered sex offender was arrested in December on a felony parole violation and is facing some heavy time . His wife Donna, had just pled guilty to a misdemeanor the day before the tip came in regarding JT Cash’s whereabouts and received a suspended sentence.

Jason Cash was apprehended with help from Bink, the new Albemarle County k9 when the house he was staying in on Secretary Sands was raided and he attempted to stay hidden inside.

What are Coincidences… What are clues?

The aforementioned volunteer for NGVFD lives in same stretch of Secretary Sands Rd.

Yet another relative of Jason Cash, a registered Sex Offender, shares an employer with the cousin of “volunteer”, and volunteer; specializing in outdoor landscape lighting.

Colby Eppard was stopped in the area of Green Creek Rd that is a large parcel of land owned by  Cash family member.

As far as making allegations in this report, there are none. The investigation of the events contained herein are entirely based on public information and witness accounts.

I have come to the conclusion that while we cannot say specifically which one of the issues discussed directly relate to the murder of Morgan Harrington, a primary or secondary scene integral to the investigation of same, and the hunt for her killer(s), but I do believe the incidents need to explored fully in a public forum.

    I read here everyday, but very seldom post, but today when I was reading a few things struck me (sorry they are so morbid);

-Morgan’s shirt was in good condition. This could mean her shirt was removed from her person prior to a violent traumatic crime.
-The shirt being removed pre-mortem may indicate some type of voluntary removal by Morgan? Not passing judgment here, it could be due to consensual sex or also if she changed into something else available if due to her prior injury there was blood on her shirt?
-It also potentially means she was taken to AF nude or partially nude. Imagine an unsub carrying a nude/partially nude female out of a residence/structure to a vehicle (there has to be some mode of transport to AF). There would be some attempt at concealment.
-Assuming said shirt was removed pre-mortem, where is the primary crime scene? I think this is paramount.
-Where was the shirt between 10/17 and 11/5? That is a significant period of time to be in possession of shirt most of Charottesville was determined to find.
-There are a lot of means by which Morgan’s shirt arrived on the bushes, but focusing on what we can deduce secondary to this is important too.
-I only mention these things, because knowing where the shirt isn’t seems important to me.

I hope for all involved this case finds closure soon. Justice seems to be so close, I pray it finds its way to Cville.

Early on, we heard an account of a witness alledgedly seeing Morgan in the bathroom upset and crying. Is this witness that saw Morgan attain the injury the same witness… or a different one?

    Dear Mr. Joe America,

Well, well. Aren’t WE the grumpy gus? I agree it would be wonderful if everything could be succint, to the point, snap-snap in this case but sadly, that’s a pipe dream. I am not going to apologize for the fact that I found the tone of your most recent post especially offensive. Please solve the case for us, Sgt. Joe Friday.

  4. mary says:

And I am not going to apologize for discussing anything about myself, my feelings or my emotions in the interest of keeping convo going during a lull. I am absolutely incensed at you, Mr. Joe America, for being so presumptious as to direct us in how to conduct ourselves on this site.

  5. suz says:

I reckon she could have fallen twice, right? Once as witnessed by the folks who saw her take a tumble when taking a picture, and again in the bathroom? Fits with the wobbly looking thought-to-be-Morgan who dropped her purse multiple times in the parking lot.

Last post of the night, last post ever. Yes, LET’s discuss Cassandra Morton. What was she wearing? Where was she last seen? What were the circumstances of her disappearance? Who were her friends? Was she a student? Do YOU know the answers to all these questions, Joe America? If so, PLEASE enlighten me. If you haven’t already done so, please add this bookmark to your favorites: http://blog.blackandmissing.org/.

Normally I would get to this point and say ‘sorry ya’ll, but…’ but after the last few weeks, hell, years I have had, I REFUSE to apologize for being offended and voicing my opinion. Good night.

We don’t know if the “don’t worry, I will find a ride home” conversation was actually that limited. I have always thought there was more to the conversation than that and LE is withholding the entire conversation for whatever reason. We know Morgan texted a guy at JMU. I have always wondered if she was hoping (maybe she could have had a crush on this guy?)that he could drive to C-Ville and pick her up (it isn’t that far of a drive). Maybe Morgan explained to her friends and said she was waiting to hear back from the textee. I also think that there was an unspoken assumption between Morgan and her friends that they would be following up with each other as Morgan problem solved her situation. Quite awhile ago one of the friends (not Sarah or Amy) visited the Facebook site and indicated that they friends had attempted to contact Morgan numerous times later in the evening but everything went to voicemail since the battery was already out of the phone. If the friends thought she had hooked up with this guy of course they would have hedged to her parents in the morning (well, at least that was code back in my day)…..

Blink, I think we are misunderstanding eack other.

As far as the shirt being placed on the shrub – people are stating that the person who put it there did so at great risk of being observed. My point is that I do not believe there a risk because I do not believe any one walking casually up to the shrub and placing a shirt on it would attract anyone’s attention. I think that the general public is apathetic to Morgan’s case, and if the killer has her camera, and/or cell phone, could more than likely walk up to the front steps of the Rotunda at UVA, drop them off and walk away with out being noticed.

By the way, I realize the shirt was in very good condition, and I have no idea when it was put there, who put it there, why they put it there, or when it was put there. There are just too many possibilties, and too few confirmed facts about it at this point for me to even form a guess.

As far as my (back to the party we were at) I should have used the word hypothetical in front of the parantheseis. I have no knowledge of where they were in Charlottesville prior to the concert. You have said there is no way you would have left a friend behind, but if in some circumstance you did, wouldn’t you rather remember your last conversation with them as “I’ll find a ride home” rather than “I’ll find a ride”, IF they had planned on doing something after the concert, especially if you were asked about it 24 hours later. I wonder if anyone has asked the friends what their plans were for after the concert if the Morgan hadn’t vanished.

In regards to her injury happening in the bathroom rather than on the arena floor, I had not read that witnesses account. I assume by not being named, you mean in the media, but LE knows this witnesses name? For that matter, does LE know the names of the people who witnessed her falling on the floor?

My position on the friends is while I do not believe they were involved in Morgan’s death, it does not mean we should dismiss the possibility they were. After all, they were the last people who actually knew Morgan personally who saw her alive that we know of.

    Thanks for clarifying.

WRT to the friends, they were not the last people to see her alive, that would be the BB players and the unsubs in the RV lot. I can tell you at the VSP level, there is no suspicion regarding the friends, nor is there any on behalf of the Harrington’s or myself, nor has there been, for months.

  10. Sorry Blink, I found you response above about the ‘fall’ in the bathroom. Hearing Dr. Dan’s description of Morgan and her habits, re: the dead bolt on her bedroom door, very organized, had nice jewerly (that she protected), it seems to me she was really pretty responsible at this time in her life. Her ‘friends’ had to know this, so, I too think something is very wrong with the cavaliere attitude of the reported “she’s locked out and will find a way home”. Her ‘friends’ should have been alarmed and acted then. Also, was she kmown to just let anyone drive or use her car? My gut says no. I also dont’ think – I think she would have planned to miss Metalica. As I said, this is where I think Morgan was growing up and trying to be responsible. And, like so many of you, this is just making me sick.

Okay, okay. I’ll keep posting. Ha ha!

I was reading backward and got to JA’s post first. I need to thank some people: cvillenative for telling me Grisham is there. AT LEAST two days in Charlottesville, coming up. Awa, the South. Yes. Flannery O’Connor, William Faulkner, Carson McCullers, Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams, I LOVE THEM. I’m leaving out tons; that’s why I don’t like lists. Chad, suicide is so FINAL. It’s hard to explain. Thank you for sharing about your dad. I’ve been meaning to ask how is your friend, Joseph Leahy?

TheHomelessOne, thank you. Mom 3.0, Gifter 3, J2K thanks. Hey J2K, let’s talk about the stolen purse report! Just kidding!

Connie, the reason in my mind that the bookkeeper is somewhat believable is that VSP and UVA have both acknowledged that Morgan was in that very same parking lot at about the same time having “limited interaction” with the basketball players. And it couldn’t have been Dee Spolarics because she was inside the arena until the end of the concert.

Peggy, my question is: Was Morgan’s car possibly in the RV lot? She went into that parking lot for a reason. To get a ride? To score some drugs? To buy another ticket from a scalper? To sit in her car until the end of the show? I don’t know. It has been said her car was in UHall parking lot (which she walked through). Did she get to her car and remember she didn’t have her keys? I don’t know.

Blink, missing persons protocol (adult). Absolutely necessary.

The shirt? It is as much of a mystery to me as anything else in this case.

Dr. Harrington, my favorite picture of Morgan is the one with a lot of family, and Gil is lying horizontal, barefoot, laughing. I’m feeling as much a bond with Gil right now as I have with Morgan. Maybe it’s because I had a mother, was a daughter, now have a daughter, am a mother. There is a bond there that cannot ever be broken. Thank God!

This is the incident I was referring to in my 4/19 1:11p post. Could the kickee be this person and therefore remove some credibility to his description of events.

This story is chilling. This grandmother says she saw a young woman and a young man physically struggling with one another, and the young woman looked a lot like Morgan. The grandmother wants to remain anonymous for her own safety.

She called police Monday night after she saw Harrington’s picture on the news. She says the fight unfolded behind her car parked outside the John Paul Jones Arena the night Metallica took the stage. At about 9:30, the same time police say Morgan Harrington had still been on the arena grounds, the woman pulled into a parking space to pick up her son and grandson from the show. That’s when she says a loud noise startled her.

“I heard them being very loud and it sounded like maybe like she got smacked or something. The two people were in like a hand lock she had her hands on his arm and he had his hands on her arm pushing back and forth.”

The woman says the girl started walking back toward the arena and the young man headed for the road, but ran back to the girl. She says the girl looked just like Morgan and it appeared the couple knew each other. The woman only had a vague description of the young man she saw.

I wonder if he was fearful someone may have seen him with her and was taking a premptive strike on an alibi. He told a reporter this not the police IIRC.

  15. fawn says:

    On mother’s intuition:
Like Morgan my daughter is smart, beautiful, a college student. She works as a volunteer for rape crisis. She walked in “Taking Back the Night”. She was raped the next day by an acquaintance.

I had told her all about Morgan. Told her the story I read on here about a creepy pizza boy. A while back she was asking around on FB for someone who could cut hair. A former lab partner offered to take her to get a free haircut from his dad. I begged her not to go. Told her I would pay. I had a terrible feeling about it. He didn’t rape her that day. He just gained her trust.

She went to a party with friends. They wanted to leave. She told them she would find a way home. When she got ready to leave she texted several friends and this guy responded. He wanted to have a few drinks. She wanted to go home. So he said he needed to go by his house and get xanax for a buzz. She wanted to go home. He insisted. He offered her 2 xanax. She said no. He talked her into taking one. When they got to her apt, he wanted to check out some CD’s on her computer. She was tired, but didn’t want to be rude. After all, he was giving her a ride home. She trusted him. He was a friend.

He was watching a movie on her computer and the last thing she remembers is going to sleep. When she woke up, she knew immediately she had been raped. And he was in bed next to her naked. She ran to the bathroom, locked the door and called a friend to take her to the hospital. All the while he’s making lude and disgusting comments to her through the door.

I’ve tried telling myself it was date rape, acquaintance rape, she was under the influence. No matter how I say it, she was raped. She did everything we have warned her against. Our girls want to be strong and independent. They want to be polite. They think they are invincible. While I was crying hysterically my husband consoled me by saying at least she’s alive. That is so true. I knew 2 weeks ago he was bad news. I don’t know how, but I knew. I was on edge all day until she called me to say she was back. I even begged her not to get in a car with him. She lives 6 hours away. How could I have known he was bad without meeting him? I guess because guys wouldn’t normally offer to take a girl they barely know to get a haircut.

My heart goes out to the Harringtons. I think that Morgan knew her attacker.

My dear Fawn, I am so sorry that happened to your baby. What to say?
As her Mother, I know you have this covered, but should you need support, you have come to the right place.

Fawn – SO unspeakably sorry about your daughter. Please make sure she gets counseling (not that you wouldn’t think of it but she may insist she doesn’t need it). She’s wrong! She does. If you don’t have the money or if she is concerned about confidentiality please make sure she contacts a domestic violence shelter. My sister works for one, they are really wonderful havens.

Although of course we are all so grateful she IS alive – what an enormous blessing — it is sad that we have to make that statement so frequently in this society.

I am so disgusted by such scum and I hope that boy goes to jail for a long time and gets a taste of his own medicine (this is coming from a very pacifist-type person). I give you credit for keeping it together better than me, I’m not sure I wouldn’t be stalking him right now. I know all my common sense might (ok, would) fly right out the door in a situation like this.

I am not superstitious nor do I believe in moon phases or angels (nice as it would be) or anything else like that, but I believe in caring for others so I wanted to write you to tell you that my thoughts are with you and your daughter.

I woke from a startling dream two nights ago in which I envisoned Morgan’s killer being cremated. The odd part was that I saw Morgan’s cremation as well…her’s being more of a “release of spirit” I guess. Sort of a glow to the heavens?? The killer’s was the beginning of an eternal hell because his spirit could “feel” the cremation. I won’t elaborate on details because I woke up sweating and freaked out. :)

I think what my subconscious was telling me is that I hope the perp is caught soon but if it takes some time or he/she goes undetected, I guess/hope justice will be served in the same manner as in my dream.

It also made me wonder if the perp may already be deceased, either by their own hand or other.

I guess I need to scour the obits…I know the retired sheriff did himself in, but supposedly not related.

    Anywho…thanks for “listening”

Fawn, My heart is breaking for you, for your daughter and for your husband.

I don’t know if there is anything I could say that would make it any better for any of you, but I will try.

Mother’s sometimes have a second sense, that is true, but we often times worry about nothing. Please do not beat yourself up for not doing something more, to keep your daughter from befriending this person. There is nothing you could have done, honest.

9 times out of ten She would have been ok. She should have been safe. I am sorry that this person took your daughter’s friendship and trust and politeness, all good attributes, and turned them into weapons to use against her.

You wrote that you know she made some wrong choices, and you are probably right, I will not judge her. I only wish to convey to you that no matter her choices, she should have been safe with a friend.

It is not ok to give your friend drugs, and take advantage of them, in any way, and certainly not to have unconsensual sex with them, when they are impaired or passed out.

I am thankful that your daughter is alive. This person was obviously not a gentleman, and who knows what kind of a person he really is- Who knows what he would have done had she not taken the drug and become incapacitated.

I am so sorry that this happened to your daughter, so very sorry. I agree with you, that our children want to be strong and independent. They want to be polite. Those are good things Fawn, this person who took advantage of your daughter was the one that was in the wrong.

I will be praying for your daughter, for you, for your husband.
Please look into some support groups for your daughter and your family for survivors of rape.

Joe America, Hello I understand your frustration. This is certainly a forum filled with more than just the bare facts of Morgan’s case. We share much more here then just the facts or theories, we share our feelings and our lives. I am sorry that you were frustrated by having to read through them to get to the information you seek.

However, I wouldn’t trade these mushy off topic(to some) posts. I value BOC much more because of them. Perhaps Blinks new updates will help you weed through them more easily. I am looking forward to a much easier searchable sight also.

Chad I am sorry. Thank you for sharing your life with us. You are a very courageous person.

Mary its ok, I am very thankful for your openness- please keep sharing.

I’ve been stumped about how Morgan’s shirt could have been found in good condition. What if it was because she was cold and wet, and someone she thought she could trust offered her a place to warm up and some dry clothes. Let’s say the shirt got thrown in the dryer and was either forgotten or found by someone else (girlfriend? roommate?) I’d like to know if those apts come with washers/dryers or if there is a communal laundry for the building. Could a total stranger who didn’t want to get involved find it in a dryer and simply display it outside, knowing it would be found?

So her car WAS there? The one point I cant get over is…your car is there..your friends are inside… why say you will find a way home?

Well, we are assuming that she said that, to my knowledge that has never been confirmed.

I am with you, I dont think Morgan ever said that and I think she thought she had found something to do to kill a few hours with the intention of getting back there. I do not believe she would have ever said, I will find a way home while y’all drive my car back.
    B <<<<<<<<<<

    (My below comment is JMHO!)

The above post and reply from Blink makes it even harder to understand the friends. Why in the hell didn’t they call the police when, after 2 or more supposed hours of waiting for Morgan by her car, after the concert, she still wasn’t there? Why leave? Who just leaves when their friend is missing? This was not even in her own town-this was hours away! Who in their right mind(I do not care how drunk or drugged you are), would simply say “Oh well, she isn’t going to show up-let’s head home.” In her car! They absolutely HAD to know, or honestly believe she either was with someone or was at a particular place. It’s the only thing that makes any kind of sense at all.

The phone call between Sara and Morgan , had to have Morgan saying something to the effect of, “Hey, I can’t get back into the arena, I’m going with Joe Blow to that party we were at earlier-wait for me at the car, okay?” Or maybe, “Pick me up at the party after the concert ends.” I think they stayed by the car for a while after the concert, then I think they began driving to places they may have gone to before the show, or places they thought she may have gone. I think they asked acquaintances if anyone had seen her. I think they looked for her and kept desperately trying to reach her by phone. I can’t let myself think any longer that they actually, coldly, left her there, thinking she was missing. Anything else on this phone call topic we have been fed through news articles, police pressers, etc., I feel to be untrue, and the facts are being kept quiet for the sake of the case.

What I disconnect with is when, in their minds, they gave up and made the decision to drive home. Without notifying the police, her parents, etc. That’s where I’m hung up. Where the friends finally failed her is when they decided, for whatever unfathomable reason, even though she was totally unreachable-she was somehow, in their minds-safe. Safe with people unknown to them-safe with a new or old flame-safe sleeping someplace and was just not answering her phone.

The police have GOT to know what was actually in that last phone conversation. The friends had to truly “think” that she was safe at that point in time. It was not until the next day when the proverbial s**t hit the fan, and they fully realized, with finality, that they had made fatal errors the evening before. They had pretended to themselves that she would be fine, that nothing bad could have happened. It makes my stomach twist to think of what they must have felt at that point, when they found out she was truly missing.

We all have made some huge mistakes in our lives. Most of us have been lucky enough to have not made fatal ones involving someone. I have blamed the friends, from the beginning, as most of us have. For being shitty friends, uncaring idiots, etc. But for some odd reason, tonight, I have this weird feeling of needing to take the worst mistake I have ever made in my life, and amplifying it by trillions-and then trying to see how I would have coped with that. I believe, I would not have been able to.

So to Morgan’s friends that went to see Metallica with her, that fateful night of October 17, 2009-I hope you can someday forgive yourselves for the decisions that you made. No amount of drugs, booze, pretending it didn’t happen, etc. will ever make up for or change what occured, or will ever help you forget. And you should not ever forget, because being human means owning up to your mistakes and failings and learning something. Most likely, the only thing you could have done to save Morgan, would have been to simply exit the arena and be with her, at least one of you. Maybe though, that would have meant two of you would have been murdered that night. Life is a crapshoot, and there are no easy answers. Please try to take the life you have and do wondrous things in Morgan’s name. I believe you have it in all of you to honor Morgan, the way her family is honoring her. Please let it be that you are all getting help and moving forward in your lives. Do great things-don’t let this night define you, but let it make you into people that Morgan would be proud of. It is the least you can do for your friend, and remember, you have been granted your lives-maybe fate was lying in wait for all of you that night, but Morgan took the fall-and the rest of you are lucky enough to be here to tell about it and to speak up for all victims of violent crimes. Don’t waste this chance.

  24. test says:

I do not know if the shirt was displayed by someone involved in the crime or by an innocent passerby trying to help someone find a lost item. However, maybe the police should publicize the shirt issue more. As far as I can tell the articles just mention that someone found the shirt and that the shirt appeared to be displayed. As others here have mentioned, not everyone is following things as closely as those here. It is entirely possible that a passer-by found the shirt, displayed it on a bush and is completely unaware that their displaying of the shirt has now become a big issue. If the police were more vocal and came out and asked the public to think about whether or not they found something and displayed it on a bush maybe someone would come forward and the issue could be solved.

But really, not everyone knows about these things. I grew up in the Cville area and now live very far from there. A few weeks ago I asked a local friend about the case and what they had heard and they responded “oh, I don’t really know, they found her body I think, but I don’t know if they caught the guy or not”

One thing I would like to say about any girlfriends involved, and I say this after careful thought and reflection on a few girls I once was very good friends with, there is a much higher chance of a male (involved or just having knowledge of) speaking up than any female in the inner-circle speaking up. Money, safety, none of that matters. What matters is that these types of groups are so important to those involved. Girls like this would do nothing to risk being shunned form the group and would NEVER want to be seen as the one who turned against a member for any reason. And the females will protect the males at all cost- above and beyond any other females in the group, no matter how close and how good of friends the females are. I know girls who protected guys who raped their friends because they did not want to be seen as someone who would stir up trouble with the police. They wanted to be “cool” enough that they didn’t get all upset over that kind of stuff (yeah, sick I know, but what I am saying is the truth, it happened and happens). I thank God that I was never part of these groups. I did have friends that were and at the time I cherished their friendships but now, when I hear through the grapevine what is going on with them I am so thankful that we drifted apart.

The ONLY way I can see one of these girls coming forward is through extraordinary strength on her part and with the absolute, 1000% assurance of complete anonymity. No testifying in court, no mention of her name EVER, no publicizing that someone has come forward (which means less information for all of us surfing the web- so be it). I don’t know how that stuff works, but I imagine blink does. I imagine that if there is someone here reading, who knows something, is a GOOD person deep inside but doesn’t want to make a lot of noise about the issue for whatever reason and wants to do the right thing and get this information out you could write blink a message and she would know how to help you. Go to the library and use a public computer, that way it can’t be traced to you. You can go to google or hotmail or yahoo and make an email address and ask that blink email you there. You can then share what you know and she will figure the rest out. I bet there is even a way you can get the money still without anyone knowing. And, at this point anything helps. Probably, though I don’t know for sure you would have to ask blink, you can just point folks in the right direction.

Granted, right should always prevail over wrong. But what is being asked here is that some girl come forward for the sake of solving the murder of someone she maybe (probably?) didn’t even know and completely destroy everything she has going right now. All of her friends will turn their backs, family members may even shun her. Where does she go? Pick up and move to a whole new town? All by herself? I might do it, you- internet reader with time and experience and years of wisdom- might do it. But some people might not. That needs to be understood and this girl needs to be offered a safe way to do the right thing.

Please send a message to blink, she is not the police. Go make up a new email at the library. Post a message here in the comment section saying that you want your message to remain PRIVATE. YOu can even just put “PRIVATE MESSAGE blink, please email me at this email address I want to tell you something” then wait for her to email you and write it all there in the anonymous email. She won’t post that on this board. No message gets posted until she goes through them. Just a head’s up, when you post in the comment section- even private- it shows up on your computer screen- but it does NOT show up for anyone else. If you are at the library, what you can do is post the message, then go to another web page. Go up to the top of the screen to the history, click on clear history. This will take away the name of the webpage from that computer so that if someone sits down after you they can’t see that you visited this webpage. Be brave.

Hey, Blink, I learned where the landscaping field trip on Oct 17 tour took place. They toured the Pavilion gardens, the plantings around the Special Collections Library, Newcomb Hall, and then went down to Emmet Street to the Dell where they day-lighted part of Meadow Creek and made a state of the art storm water retention pond.

Here’s a map of the Dell (“Site of the recently “daylighted” Meadow Creek, and the Perry-Fishburne Tennis Courts”)
    http://wikimapia.org/121068/The-Dell

And here’s a bit about Meadow Creek:

    Meadow Creek

The headwaters of Meadow Creek lie on the eastern flank of Observatory Hill and on the western side of the Grounds. At the base of Observatory Hill, Meadow Creek enters a stormwater sewer system that conveys the stream under the Facilities Management complex to just east of Alderman Road . Meadow Creek formerly entered another stormwater sewer about halfway between Alderman and Emmet Street which conveyed the flow under the tennis and basketball courts in the Dell. A recent daylighting project has restored the stream to a natural state, complete with meanders and floodplains. Vegetative swales, floodplains, and riparian buffers serve to prevent erosion as well as to filter out pollutants and particulate matter from the water as it flows through the Dell. The reconstructed stream then flows into a retention pond were natural physical, biological, chemical processes improve the quality of the water. Water flows from the pond via a pipe which takes Meadow Creek under Memorial Gymnasium, Nameless Field, and the Carr’s Hill Field. The stream emerges again on the north edge of the Carr’s Hill field where it runs on the surface under the railroad tracks, along the Lambeth Field parking lot, until it again enters a pipe to cross under Emmet St. Meadow Creek surfaces again on the north side of Emmet St. near the new arena. As part of the John Paul Jones Arena project, another portion of the creek will be daylighted on site to increase the quality of water discharging from University property.

If she had “only” broken arms then we could surely rule this eventuality out. What if she threw this shirt out by à window? I don’t think so but who knows? I sympathize with most of joe america’s post – I wish there were two different sites / threads: one for trying to find Morgan’s killer and another for people to share their personal stories and feelings.

    However, about this part:

“postulating what messages from the ether must have nudged a rancher to check his fences”

I think this is actually a valid point of discussion – not messages from the ether obviously, but logical chains of events that could reasonably have led Bass to search on that day, in that place. It seems like too much of a coincidence to me that EMH re-registered on the 25th, EMH’s step bro’s house burned down on 26th, and Bass finds Morgan’s body nearby on morning of 27th.

I think it is fair to say if the “open-ness” of some of the posts is not your thing, anyone can scroll past.
I built a true crime/victims advocate site and as long as people in need are reading it, that is the way it is going to stay. I trust readers to comment and support when I often cannot due to significant time constraints.

To the “chain of events” part of your comment, I would like to point out that EMH re-registered 1/25/2010, my sources say that fire started prior to midnight, so it would have been the evening on 1/25/2010, and Morgan was actually found the next morning, 1/26/2010, not the 27th.

Oh fawn, my heart is breaking for your daughter, and for you! I hope you know, even with your intuition, there was nothing you could have done. You did what you could. We cannot dictate what our “grown” children do, especially when they are miles away. They are going to spread their wings and test the waters.

Was this guy a student at the college she attends, or any other college in the area? If so, PLEASE, make sure this is reported not only to the LE, but to school officials, and make sure they see it through. So very many schools find a way to brush these incidents under the rug so to speak, and in doing so, re-victimize the victim and doing more damage. I don’t know where your daughter is, but the mother of a rape victim from the campus at UVA actually has a great resource about this very thing where you might find some helpful info: http://www.uvavictimsofrape.com/

There are so many victims of this type of crime, who decide to not go forward with any charges, because of the “date-rape” stigma. It’s understandable for so many reasons. Just please make sure your daughter is aware, that if she doesn’t pursue this, he will do this again, and again, and probably already has in the past, but don’t force the issue.

Please, please, get her to go see a rape crisis counselor ASAP. The earlier she starts getting help, the better. And I would NOT use the services that the college she is at might have, if at all possible. If that POS is a student, the probability of it being swept under the rug so to speak is so much higher. Many of the rape crisis volunteers have been through similar circumstances and can be essential to her healing process. They can and will help her sort out how to go forward with charges if this is what she decides to do.

My heart is breaking for you both. Yes, your daughter is alive, but she will forever be affected by this. My child was only 8-9 when she was molested, but we didn’t know the truth until she was 19, and the effects have been horrendous. Just know, that the steps you and your daughter take from the very beginning will determine how she is able to deal with this situation in the future. I am so very sorry for you both!!! (hugs to you both)

And I can still see her on a nightmarish journey around the area, disoriented, with people she thought she could trust

I have thought this as well, but have wondered why Dr H says that Morgan was dead before the concert ended.

Two ideas I’d like to address and if anyone has any recollection or ideas to add, please do.

I recall that Gil H. stated the bathroom was significant and apparently alluding to ‘something’ happening when Morgan was inside of the bathroom. That would possibly imply an interaction with another female. The reason being and the outcome is still a question… But, the idea that Morgan might have interacted with another female in the BR might indicate a female’s direct involvement with the perp. Any thoughts about this from other posters?

The other issue deals with Morgan’s shirt found intact. If her shirt, indeed, had no evidence of trauma to it, then, I wonder if Morgan might have removed her shirt because it was wet from the rain. Remember, it was raining and she would have been soaked, having been outside the arena and walking. (Was Morgan wearing two shirts that were layered?) IF she did remove her outer shirt, then, she may have been with people and/or in an environment where she felt comfortable. Again, the reason for Morgan feeling ‘comfortable’ with whomever and wherever is left to question.

Leaving the shirt positioned ‘neatly’ and openly gives me the impression of an act out of guilt. The guilt may not be from having directly harmed Morgan, but, possibly more from having some knowledge of it, perhaps, a close emotional tie to the perp, while still dealing with his/her own moral conscience.

These are just some of my thoughts and not based on any ‘inside’ info. I welcome everyone’s input.

Blink – so in that case, your comment about how the case started over on the 25th refers to the fire being set? up until now I had assumed that comment was referring to EMH re-registering. or is there a 3rd event that happened on the 25th?

Do you think this hypo is plausible: TWBCC attends Gojira and LOG, leaves before Metallica bc Metallica is too mainstream, TWBCC meets Morgan in parking lot, they take her back to Sutherland to hang out for a few hours, EMH is there bc related to TWBCC member

I do not think it prudent to be that specific or point fingers, from a scenario perspective it is possible.

But please read this post. I believe the information I am going to convey will help guide this a little bit.

As anyone who has read here from about the beginning, you know my concern is Morgan. Period. I take that lead from Blink.

I also think I coined the now-infamous phrase; until it’s out, it’s in.

    Please bear w/ me.

Someone new to this forum in the days after Morgan’s remains were found began asking the question: what do we know as fact.

I have responded many times, we know two things as “fact.” No. 1) She and Amy left her parents’ home in Roanoke around 1 PM on Sat., the 18th, ostensibly headed for JMU to pick up Sara Snead and now-identified male driver whose name I know but can’t remember. It’s not a secret.

No. 2) we know her bodily remains were discovered on the morning of January 26th by David Bass, owner of Anchorage Farm, while he was checking his fences and other damage after a horrific storm, including pounding rains and wind speeds up to 60 mph. He had other trees down in other areas of his farm. There were employees of a local landscaping company present on the farm that morning, I believe, probably working w/ chain saws to clear up storm debris.

I will be the first to say, I have questioned whether or not Mr. Bass may have a suspicion or heard a rumor something was amiss and went specifically to that area of the farm looking for something. There were different statements attributed to him from various reporting agencies. The house fire, Sheriff Morris’s unfortunate suicide — just it all seemed weird.

I don’t want this to get lost in moderation or spam folder. I will continue in a new email.

“I think this is actually a valid point of discussion – not messages from the ether obviously, but logical chains of events that could reasonably have led Bass to search on that day, in that place.”

I realize some want to question everything in this case, given the limited “real” info we have gotten, BUT, I personally believe questioning Mr. Bass is a moot point. You’ve got to realize what had happened in this area prior to Morgan being found. As has been posted many times before, this area had seen flooding/snow/winds like we’ve not had in many years. Schools closed, businesses closed, thousands lost power. Even small streams, extremely small streams were like rivers flowing across roads. Trees were down everywhere, and still are and will continue to be for months. All the companies could do was get them out of the road, but the remnants remain on the sides of roads & properties everywhere. It doesn’t take storms like this for a farmer to check fence lines, but given this situation, it would have been almost mandatory for any farmer to venture out asap after these storms to check their properties. Our farm is just over 100 acres, and the clean-up has only just begun. While it is “possible” a bug was planted in Mr. Basses ear, given the situation, I just don’t think it’s “probable”…

I want to be clear on this, nobody is questioning Mr. Bass. We are discussing how he might have come to check the field, which by his own words, he had not been to since August, in no way does anyone consider him suspect.

Reguarding Suz’s post about the Dell.

What is the significance of that?

I take it to mean something or else why would Blink suggest we find out what the fieldtrip was about?

Was this a gathering place at night?

    Who went on that fieldtrip?

I havent studied the area there yet, but I see its by the traacks at some point, that’s a little interesting.
    So much to think about.

As I was drying my hair, the song The Farmer & The Dell came to mind. LOL!

    Hello Bink, everyone,
A day doesn ‘t go by that I don’t think about Morgan and her family and hope that the creep and company is cuffed and cooped. I haven’t posted in a while, but I find a chance to log in and read almost every day. Like so many of you, I really want to know who those four men in black are, why they were at JPJ, and if they are the same men that were sighted by the paper delivery woman. Curious to know who they know in the North Garden area, why they haven’t come forward, and who on earth other than their Mother(s) would protect them and why? Right now, for me, everything made public so far points to those guys. I cannot believe that they have not been identified yet. How much did that security system cost again? JPJ really needs to consult with the guys at Walmart. You can’t blow your nose at walmart without someone getting it on video. There are active cameras everywhere. Why? I’d guess because they want to make sure no one gets away with stealing their stuff. Oh, AND to protect their customers. Why would JPJ have a need for security cameras and people to monitor them? This case is just mind boggling. But I know it WILL eventually be solved.

I just read this description of Ecstacy. I know we all have been urging our friends and family to read the Gift of Fear and to be aware of their surroundings and stay safe. But all the knowledge they take in might not mean a darn thing if they are under the influence of a mind/mood altering substance. If Morgan was taking this or if someone had slipped it into her drink, maybe this would explain why she would walk with these 4 men and not feel afraid???

    Re: Ecstacy (MDMA)
The drug, once popular within the rave culture and in dance clubs, has now become widely available. Known as the “hug drug” or “feel good” drug. It reduces inhibitions, eliminates anxiety, and produces feelings of empathy for others.

If any of you trust me at all, I am going to ask you to trust me on this issue. I am not going to reveal how I know this. I am not going to reveal how I know this to Blink, or to anyone else. But I am telling you now, there is a third item I can add to my list of “what facts do we know,” and that is this:

David Bass had absolutely no prior knowledge or hint or whisper that Morgan Harrington’s remains were on his farm, located in that section of his farm. He was not suspicious because of the Southerland house fire, which he may not have had any prior knowledge unless he saw something on the news after the fact. Southerland is four miles away, and his home is located on the interior of AF.

Don’t take my word for it, do your own research into the weather and horrible storm that prior weekend. I have spoken to other local landowners, who own large tracts of land, which are adjacent to other large tracts of land in Albemarle County, and they all sustained property damage in that storm, including fences and trees down. There was a lot of localized flooding, and the schools were closed on that Monday, and I believe Tuesday, as well, due to the after effects of that storm.

David Bass was on his tractor that morning checking fences and property damage, while the work crew was there so if there was other damage, they could take care of it in that visit, as well. Remember, he is not a young man in his 20′s. Even sections of trees cut up by chain saws, especially rain-soaked trees, are way heavy. It makes total sense that if there was a clean-up crew present on the property, that he would want to check the entire property while they were there to repair that damage so he wouldn’t have to pay for a second visit. As to various statements attributed to him from various news organizations — Nancy Grace claimed they found the necklace, and ABC didn’t get anything right in their coverage. Draw your own conclusions.

To my own personal list of: “what facts do we know,” I am adding that David Bass, only by God’s grace, found Morgan’s remains that morning, there was nothing nefarious in her discovery, and I now believe placement on AF, by Mr. Bass. He is a victim in all of this, as well.

To continue to spend your time and spin your wheels in trying to find a connection between any events and any prior knowledge of Mr. Bass that Morgan was there is a total waste of your time and energy.

Of course, you do not have to accept this simply because I stated it, but on this issue, to me anyway, it’s a closed door. Remember, I keep telling you Mercury is Retrograde and the truth will be told. I believe the truth has been told about Mr. Bass. He is in no way connected to this at all.

Also, please remember Occam’s Razor — I swear, I do not believe this horrible event is as complicated as it seems. I think it is going to come down to probably a combination of alcohol-drug-induced rage that ended up in Morgan’s brutal murder by a coward. I think we are giving way too much credit to whomever did this.

I have no facts, just a feeling, this is not someone who had gone to JPJ specifically looking for a “target” to murder. I think this is an incident that got out of control in the moment, a quick body dump because they are a coward, and that they have remained silent only to save their own cowardly hide or hides plural.

I gotta go back to work. Peace to all. Focus your thoughts and energies. i do not believe we are dealing w/ a “young” RSO — Morgan was a junior in college. She is not going to be drawn to a kid — would you ?

Good post above, Redly. I too am a skip and scroll person, but appreciate your ‘take’ on the ‘this is about me’ posts. There certainly is value in getting to know the good folks here, as it is useful insight into the possible basis of their thoughts and opinions.

  48. sudafed says:

like Blink said, in no way do I suspect Bass of any misconduct. in fact, just the opposite. i suspect him of being a vigilant neighbor who was (a) aware of Morgan Harrington’s murder, (b) aware of a violent RSO living nearby, (c) aware of some cops coming to talk to that RSO, and possibly (d) aware of a house burning down the previous night / that morning. if you were aware of all these things, wouldn’t you start wondering about whether your expansive property could have been used as a dump site, especially if you have had trespassers in that area before?

Just my two cents: when something really bad happens, or I read about something just awful in the news, I think of everyone on BOC right away and want to share with you. It’s like this is one big place where everyone understands the pain of all the terrible, unjust things happening in our world to defenseless children and women, men too. I know we need to stay on topic, but I enjoy the camaraderie also.
