Charlottesville, VA– According to sources inside the murder investigation of 20 year old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, there has been a new development in her case.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity to blinkoncime.com, sources inside the investigation have confirmed Virginia State Police are preparing to announce a possible connection between Harrington’s murder, and the homicide of Vanessa Pham in Fairfax, VA.

However, late this morning, although blink editors attempted to confirm the reports in advance, Corrine Geller, PR Manager for VSP released a statement regarding a forensic connection to an unsolved case in 2005.

Therefore, blinkoncrime cannot confirm source reports Morgan’s case is connected to the recent homicide of Vanessa Pham, A Georgia Fashion Design student found stabbed in her upper torso after police initially believed she was the victim of a single vehicle car accident.

VanessaPham_063010_33

Pham was enroute to visit friends on Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:30PM ; by 3:30PM she was dead in a ditch.

Vanessa’s whiteScion had been traveling the wrong way down an access road, hopped the curb and ended up in a ravine. Although police had no indication she was not driving the vehicle, it was later discovered that she was deceased prior to the crash.

Anyone with information concerning the death of Vanessa Pham is asked to contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-8477.

Wow. After five days – they are thinking these cases are related.

Yet – I’ve been led to understand DNA is not back yet in Morgan’s case.

What ever do they have that link these two together?

Must be some type of serial murderer calling card.

    Sick, twisted piece of humanity.

Please, Dear Lord….get this evil being off the street. Please.

My first thought, if these cases are related, is this has to be someone impersonating a police officer.

If it isn’t this case then which one is it???

Maybe she was clinging to life and trying to drive for help.
    This is tragic!

    Why does this keep happening???

Word of advice to the young girls out there everywhere…

  11. acho says:

    From today’s Washington Post:
The area where Pham’s car was found is close to three of Fairfax County’s busiest mental-health facilities: the inpatient Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute, the outpatient Woodburn Center for Community Mental Health and Inova Fairfax Hospital. Homeless people set up camp in the area, police said. Detectives are considering the possibility that someone Pham didn’t know simply climbed into her car at a stoplight.

Someone impersonating LE, absolutely, but also interesting the proximity of these hospitals and homeless camps.

  12. cosmo says:

LE impersonator or actual LE. Blink … i think they are saying this link because people are becoming aware of what someone posted yesterday about how the LE Chief is retiring Sept 30th. why would the LE chief be retiring NOW?

  13. fish says:

    mojo23:

    Some one impersonating an officer:

Leaves a calling card, as in t-shirt and now

    maybe her boots, necklace, camera???

  14. cosmo says:

i think LE knows there is someone with LE ties running around… and it is about to come back to the department big time.

  15. acho says:

I also meant to snip a paragraph about a horrible stabbing that took place in the area in 2000 (perp is a mentally ill patient incompetent to stand trial), and a Fairfax LE quote about the need to warn the community. I remember when this happened.

From same article; punctuation error theirs, not mine (!) (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/30/AR2010063005203.html):

Mentally ill people are not, by and large, violent toward strangers. But police say they think, Gregory D. Murphy, a paranoid schizophrenic, walked up to 8-year-old Kevin Shifflett, who was playing on a sidewalk in Alexandria, and stabbed him to death in 2000. Murphy repeatedly has been found too mentally ill to stand trial.

“We don’t know that this is not a stranger attack,” Officer Bud Walker, a police spokesman, said. “Because of that, we do feel there is a public safety issue, and feel the need to warn the public to be on guard.”

  16. DMB says:

    From the article…

“Vanessa Pham was born within a mile of where she died, at Inova Fairfax Hospital”

In the comment section someone brought up a good point. She may have been driving and trying to get to the hospital for help.

It seems quick to say that these cases are linked. Any thoughts as to what the link may be?

Praying the killer is caught soon!!!

So, if they are related, does this let cheese jumpsuit off the hook? Let’s say they are related, maybe it is someone in law enforcement or a wannabe, is it someone that’s been in our sights? Has VaSP suspected this all along and was just waiting for him to slip up? Maybe someone saw something this time.

I hope something that makes sense and puts everything together happens soon.

B – I don’t know how you keep your emotional sanity with all the cases you review. Thank you.

  18. Oscar says:

First post, but have been following this case here for some time. My first thought on this connection could be something of Morgans’ on Pham (if it is her case that is connected) or in her car(i.e. necklace, boot, etc.) seems it would be too early for dna to be back for comparison. I’m with Fish on this, this crap has got to stop!

  19. GnM says:

What was left behind at the scene at Anchorage Farm? Remember the possible link to bicyclists? Just wondering short of DNA and a very specific MO what could be the link?

  26. lizzy says:

Oh, I am so sorry. This seems like the Harringtons’ worst fear come true. Despite all their efforts, he has struck again. So sad; so very very sad.

It also brings me to a state of anger that is hard to describe, when I consider how they had to personally push to get and keep cautions out to students.

  27. Judi says:

This was really horrific news, but hopefully the murder on Vanessa will give more clues and hopefully solve the two cases (or more) before anyone else is hurt.

These two gorgeous girls… such a shame! I’m very sure Vanessa and Morgan have a lot in common… something the murderer is attracted to.

    The world today….

  29. Twinkletoes says:

Oh my God. There was a fake police officer targeting women in Michigan and Wisconsin several years ago. I learned this AFTER being pulled over out in the middle of nowhere by someone in a white unmarked car, wearing a badge and uniform. I had my son in the car with me and the officer was very nervous. He asked me to get out of the car and to go sit in his car. I told him I wouldn’t leave my son in the car, so he said, well, he can come too. I told him flat out that there was no way I was getting into his car unless he called for another officer to come to that spot. I told him I would stay in my car until a second officer arrived. I was polite about it, but I made it very clear that there was no way in hell I was getting into his car. He let me go with a verbal warning.

  30. Twinkletoes says:

This poor girl. Please catch this bastard who is killing our girls.

  31. Saramom says:

“Blink on crime can confirm Morgan’s case is connected…” HALLELUJAH!!!! I see it, I read it above. Thank you Blink. This is such bittersweet news. Blessings to the Pham family.

Ms. Pham was brutally murdered in the middle of a Sunday afternoon? What the heck is going on? Someone pretending to be in a position of authority?

Praying for God’s Will to be done. Praying for all those involved in trying to catch this monster-man.

  32. messimamm says:

apparently Vanessa was also very “shiny” and close in age to Morgan. Police are mentioning trauma to the upper torso as COD… There is definitely a pattern emerging. I hope this afternoons presser includes even more and they can stop this monster.

My thoughts exactly. If this POS was brazen enough to layout a t-shirt, would he be bold enough to say put an item of jewelry on his latest, as someone said-kindof like a calling and a “catch me if you can” statement…?????

  36. Judi says:

Obviously, the connection isn’t DNA, since Dan Harrington said, as posted on the findmorgan.com website, just last night, that the DNA results are not back yet. So, what brought them to this conclussion.

Only thing I can thing of is a calling card of some sort.

Which means, he is (if he wasn’t already) becoming a serial killer.

STATE POLICE ASKING FOR PUBLIC’S HELP IN IDENTIFYING
ASSAULT SUSPECT LINKED TO MORGAN HARRINGTON HOMICIDE

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – State and local investigators are pursuing a forensic connection between the disappearance and death of Virginia Tech student, Morgan Harrington, and an unsolved 2005 abduction and sexual assault in the City of Fairfax. Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in the Fairfax case based on a composite sketch of the man.

Forensic evidence recovered during the course of the Harrington investigation has confirmed the link to the City of Fairfax assault. In September 2005, a Fairfax woman was abducted and sexually assaulted and City of Fairfax Police detectives were able to create a composite sketch based on the victim’s description of the suspect. However, the suspect may have changed his appearance over the course of the past five years.

Harrington, 20, of Roanoke, Va., went missing from the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville during a Metallica concert on the night of Oct. 17, 2009. Her remains were discovered Jan. 26, 2010, by the landowner of Anchorage Farm in southern Albemarle County. The skeletal remains were located in a field on the 700-acre property. Morgan Harrington’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office, University of Virginia Police, Albemarle County Police, and the Charlottesville Police are working with the City of Fairfax Police in regards to both criminal incidents.

Those with information about the man featured in the attached “Wanted Poster” may contact City of Fairfax Police Detective Mike Boone at (703) 385-7959. Anyone wishing to provide information in the Morgan Harrington case is encouraged to call the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000 or Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3467 or email State Police at bci-appomattox@vsp.virginia.gov. A reward of $150,041 is still available for anyone with information that leads to a resolution of the Harrington crime.

MEDIA NOTE: For Fairfax City “WANTED POSTER,” please email corinne.geller@vsp.virginia.gov.

Prayers go out the Pham family. I hope this is the link so that justice prevails.

I am guessing the “trauma to the upper body” described in the article is very similar to trauma Morgan suffered. I hope the bad guy was sloppy and left behind more evidence.

Wonder if Morgan caught a ride from a police /ambulance type vehicle?

  41. DMB says:

    Via twitter

NBC29 – VA State Police pursuing forensic connection between Morgan Harrington case and unsolved 2005 abduction and sexual assault in Farifax.

Blink, do you know the case they are referring to?

Yes, but we do not ID Sex Assault victims.

  42. Phyl says:

    Blink,
I just found this…there’s a sketch of a man on the website.

Virginia State Police say forensic evidence may link an unsolved 2005 assault in Fairfax to the murder of Morgan Harrington.

Investigators released a composite sketch of the Fairfax suspect. They ask anyone with information about the Fairfax case to contact City of Fairfax Police Detective Mike Boone at (703) 385-7959. Anyone wishing to provide information in the Morgan Harrington case is encouraged to call the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000 or Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3467 or email State Police at bci-appomattox@vsp.virginia.gov.

  44. marywh says:

I am confused. On facebook “help find Morgan” there is news break showing Morgan’s case tied to 2005 abduction of northern va. woman (a composite sketch of wanted man is given), and now Vanessa PHam’s case tied to Morgan too.

  45. In Memory of Gini says:

So this girl was abducted and assulted in 2005, and just died in a car accident recently and tied to Morgan? Wow!

VSP position is that it is their position they do not have evidence to link the two. My sources say that is not accurrate, so there you have it.

I can only verify VSP position on it, so is what it is, an unconfirmed source. Same one that tipped me off to the link to another case announcement though, so go figure.
    B

  46. Twinkletoes says:

Phyl, that is one nasty looking fellow in the sketch. He shouldn’t be hard to identify if he looks anything like the rendering. I can’t tell race by the sketch though. Looks maybe black or hispanic? Not sure. Anyone?

  47. peg says:

When I was much much younger,I had a huge German Shepherd who traveled everywhere with me. My horse was trained on command to rear, bite, strike and kick. And I was a big strong girl. These children don’t seem to think evil could happen to them. Oh,I hope they catch this scum soon. I’m so sorry for the familys.

  48. messimamm says:

Yesterday I was in the general vacinity of where Vanessa Pham’s car and body were found. Before my friend and I left the business we had been in, the clerk noticed a man lurking the parking lot/dumpsters, so she called the police. As we were leaving, several police cars and officers gathered, who asked us if we had seen anyone (we had not.) We noticed the police were pretty interested in what we may have seen; just a little more-so than we would expect. Good to see the vigilance.
Ironically, I had just purchased “Gift of Fear” and was reading it while waiting for my friend. You can imagine my response when I read this post this morning.

  49. fish says:

    Really???
The sketch of this man linked to Morgan Harrington?
He was on that bridge or driving by and she had a cataclysmic, series of unfortunate events that lead her being abducted and taken to Anchorage Farm?

How about Mr. and Mrs. Bass or their daughter?
Does he look familiar to them?

Anchorage Farm, people. Anchorage Farm. He had to know it. It was raining and dark!

I’ll volunteer to drop off sketches in North Garden if someone comes with me. Or how about this, I’ll just throw them from the car’s window and let them blow in the breeze.
