Kyron Horman Missing and Endangered: Grand Jury Meets, Indictment Imminent
Portland, OR- In the case of missing 7-year-old Portland child Kyron Horman, developments today continue to unfold at lightening speed.
During a poorly-kept secret convening of a special grand jury that is in session today, sources inside the investigation believe it’s triers of fact will return an indictment against Terri Horman and possibly one other individual.
It is however, unclear as to whether or not the grand jury is hearing evidence in the alleged murder for hire plot MCSO informed Kaine Horman his wife had master-minded, OR evidence surrounding the disappearance of Kaine and Desiree Young’s son Kyron.
KOIN caught Terri Horman’s friend DeDe Spicher, who was subpoenaed to appear in the proceedings this morning, on video with her attorney, entering the courthouse. Spicher was the subject of a public plea asking her to cooperate with investigators by Kaine Horman and Desiree Young last week. A neighbor of Spicher’s has confirmed the FBI has been seen removing boxes and unknown bagged material from her residence.
According to several sources, DeDe Spicher, Terri’s roommate post Kaine’s restraining order, was working in a garden near the Horman home the day of Kyron’s disappearance when she received a call at approximately 11:15 am. She left abruptly, returning at approximately 1:00 pm. DeDe was unreachable on her cell phone during that time and the property owner became concerned. Spicher is a long time friend and workout companion of Horman’s.
Earlier today, Laura Rackner, Kaine Horman’s Family Law attorney filed a motion to find out where the funds are coming from to foot the bill for Terri Horman’s high profile criminal defense attorney, Stephen Houze.
In Horman’s motion, he is seeking the disclosure of the payments made to Houze, and whether or not it came from marital funds. If it has, Kaine Horman wants half the cash to pay his own legal bills. Kaine Horman alleges that Terri Horman disclosed to a third party that she paid a whopping $350,000 retainer to Houze, however, provided no proof of same in the papers filed today.
In what appears to be a media timing coup, tonight’s episode of Dateline NBC will feature Kaine Horman, Desiree and Tony Young, with interviews and coverage of Kyron’s disappearance.
Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Mary Lindstrand, has announced a press conference tomorrow at the MCSO Training Facility, beginning at 2:00 pm PST.

Harry Oakes was on Sauvie Island for a couple of days the end of July (which part of SI I don’t know) with his dogs who he says picked up a cadaver scent. Harry retrieved a sock and supposedly turned it over to LE. My thought was maybe LE decided to pursue the area referred to by Mr. Oakes. Per the news channels LE is again searching the island today.

There may be some confusion between Sauvie Island in general and the Wildlife Area. You need a daily permit to park a motor-propelled vehicle in a designated parking area within the Sauvie Island Wildlife Area, which includes beaches. I have never seen a gate restricting access to the island itself. If such a gate is there, it would have to be new and is not mentioned anywhere I have found. Dogs must be on a leash, I believe, and may be restricted even more in the Wildlife Area. Farms which are open to the public for U-pick berries, buying produce, and special events have their own restrictions (hours, parking, pets, etc.) So – it depends on where Harry wanted to search.

The sting was on June 26; Kaine filed for divorce/got RO on June 28. That’s about when TH hired Houze. TH’s parents and possibly friends (DD??) were staying in her house with her; somewhere there was statemt that they helped her find atty.
Then, MCSO stated that they DID NOT ask TH for any further info. after she hired Houze. Kaine did some explanatory comments about that as well. With all the fingers in the pie and a divorce + possible criminal case facing her it’s just better to wait and sort all that out later. WTH is Twinkletoes when you need her to explain this better than I can???
I’ve personally always wondered if either/both: (1)TH knew by that time that Ky was dead; (2) TH was scared by what the perp. had done that she was afraid to make any public statements–not only for herself, but also for fears about Kiara and maybe James (who she’d already moved out of town a few months before). I think Blink’s info. about LE being around the Horman home an unusual # of times suggests someone could’ve been stalking someone in the Horman home. I believe TH was already scared before June 4 (maybe that’s even why her looks changed so for the worse from her March b’day party).
Blink – Portions of Sauvie’s Island are no doubt gated and private, however, there are many public areas-parks, hiking trails, and nature preserves. Access to the island is public, as are most of the roads on the island. Oakes wouldn’t necessarily need permission to be searching, if he was on the public portions of the island.

I don’t think so. It was a Friday in June. All summer long at my office people drop off early like flies. I do it myself.
I previously posted that I agreed with those concerned about balloons. I also read the post (mentioned before) on a local site about the balloons being biodegradable. I commend those organizing and attending the summer event for Kyron and I only continue with the balloon comments because it is such a common thing to do and may be considered again.
Latex balloons are biodegradable but the timeline can still make them a hazard. To biodegrade rapidly, they must rise something like 5 miles into the air, freeze, and explode into little fragments. Anything which causes them not to rise so high may result in a long delay for the biodegrading process. Ribbons, strings, messages, balloons tied together, clips, and anything else adding to the weight should not be used. Messages can be written on the balloons with markers. Balloons should be self-tied. The tie is probably the last to biodegrade, so having a string attached is still a potential hazard when falling to earth or water.

Blink – Sauvie is not gated. It is open to driving around. There may be certain parts that are. Lot of bicycling, Reeder’s Beach, birding, fishing, boating, farm produce gathering etc for the public. Duck and goose hunting in the fall.
I suspect that as long as KH & DY could believe the “terrie did it” theory, they were able to hope that Kyron was just stashed or being held by someone. Now that it’s possible that “terrie didn’t do it”, they are having to face the reality that Kyron is not just being held by someone.
There’s been a shift in mood, even on the blogs, and an increase in search activity since the last news conference and no sightings of the parents since then either. Doesn’t look promising. So sorry!!
What happens (God forbid) if little Kryon is never found? Will TH be able to just continue with her sordid life?
For the first time, I am beginning to lose hope. Too much time has passed with no results. Just heartbreaking. Not a day passes that I don’t pray that he will be found alive and well. These prayers will continue…miracles still happen.

I had asked earlier about why the Secret Service was involved. I believe someone mentioned earlier that different agencies were involved perhaps based on technologies and resources available to them? But the whole idea of the fake currency thing is interesting.
I don’t particularly buy the idea of human trafficking in Kyron’s case, but I know that sadly, things like that do happen.

Just a thought but there was all these landscapers at the school and part of project community care for the children, correct me if I am wrong.
Project Community Care is once a year and occurs at every school in the district who wants to participate. It takes place when children are not in school. I posted the Skyline date, but I realize many parts of the country start school before Labor Day, so to clarify, no students would be at Skyline on this day unless with a parent or supervised volunteer group such as Scouts and church youth groups.
I am sometimes critical of our school district’s actions or lack of them, but I have been a parent, an employee and a Site Council member. I do not believe a parent group or anyone else could do or cause to be done any work on the grounds of a school in this district without approval for that from the district or a reprimand to the principal for not asking in advance, regardless of who paid or volunteered. It may not be in the custodian’s job description to do landscaping, but I can tell you that those who care for a building are some of the most helpful, caring people around and generally know their building and grounds inside out. I would be surprised if there was any work going on around the building that wasn’t under the watchful eye of the head custodian, whether officially or unofficially, as to its progress and effects.
Can I assume we are sure the landscaping was actually being done ON the school property itself (I’m not sure where the district ownership boundary is) and not on an adjoining private or public property or right-of-way? And are we talking about actual property improvements that would have a design and a completion date, or something like blackberry removal? I remember reading about what Rudy’s company says it does, but not specifically about what work was being done there.

As much as I would hate do believe ANY stepmother could harm her stepchild, I don’t believe Terri left the school “early” due to the LS. At best, I MIGHT believe that she had things to do, and resented having to go the Fair, and decided to get there early, make a quick appearance, then get on with her day; the errands she had to run, and her trip to the gym.
Even though the above I posted is plausible, I don’t buy it myself. I believe the truck, the dr.’s note imply some sort of premeditation. And that the call to the school was to confirm whether they were on to the fact that Kyron was missing.
With regard to Houze’s retainer fee… About 3 years ago, I caught one of those “follow the murder mystery” shows and as I was watching (with my mouth open), I recognized the “accused” as one of my tenants. A young woman (from another state) who’s parents had been murdered in their home.
Everyone, family members included, were sure she was behind the murders. The murderer was caught, confessed and convicted, but there was no evidential connection with the daughter. And still the family members were convinced that she was behind the MFH for the insurance, even at air time.
My point is, everyone signed with a TV Real Life Murder Mystery show and were unable to speak about the case until it’s completion and air date.
Very, very possibly what Houze has done in this situation. Remember, Dateline grabbed the parents early on.

I agree there are people on earth like that. I just don’t think the LS guy is one of them. If he was, would he hesitate in killing Kaine? If a person can harm a little boy, he most certainly would not hesitate in harming an adult; especially if that adult was sleeping with Terri and she was feeding him lies about how Kaine was abusing her and cheating on her.
I think he perhaps was enjoying the physical affair, and then when she tried to bring up claims about Kaine cheating… maybe he thought, “and aren’t you cheating with me?” IF she claimed to be abused, surely he could see lack of bruises and whatnot?
Mind you I’m not saying she necessarily told him Kaine was abusing her, but it would likely HAVE to be something more than telling the guy she’s having an affair with, that her husband is having an affair and should die because of it. Otherwise, he figures out, she’s just crazy, or wants her husband dead for some other reason. I mean, think about it, does a person who is having an affair herself have the right to be angry that her husband is too?
I’ve been reading about Sauvie Island and studying the maps all morning.
It’s not gated. One bridge to access it from Highway 30. You need a parking pass ($7 daily; $22 annual) to park at any of the beaches or wildlife areas. Unless you’re at a business or residence, you need the parking pass.
If the Horman family frequently visited the island, they may have had an annual pass. If not, Terri may have been in the convenience store buying a daily permit.

Search teams were seen near a field off Cornelius Pass Road, about one mile south of Skyline School. Kyron was last seen at the school June 4 and his stepmother was the last person known to have seen him.
Crews were also seen in a field off Cornell Road on Sunday
SI has public beaches,wild life refuge, farms, house boats & stand only homes.
Parts of the island you need permit to park.

FL Girl says: I know some are saying the LS could’ve done it as a ransom-type situation. But why? The plot to kill Kaine apparently was discussed and aborted well before Kyron disappeared. IF he changed his mind and wanted the money, why didn’t he propose on following through with the MFH? Why would he take Kyron for ransom, then kill him? Kinda defeats the purpose of a ransom doesn’t it? And if he couldn’t kill an adult, would he really be able to kill a child?
I assume… that he had an attack of conscience, when questioned by the police and told them what happened months prior. Where would the police dig up the MFH in the first place if he didn’t admit to it? I’m sure she paid the LS, but unless she wrote him a check and put in the memo spot “for killing my husband”, then the info had to come from the LS, right?
I thought it was said that LE found him by following up on phone calls (and maybe emails) Terri sent him. It was also said later, that the approach she used to “interest him” in her was the same approach that she used for MC. If that is true, then LE would have found sexting and/or other specifics directed at him. When questioned, he may have told about the MFH plot to distance himself from Kyron’s disappearance.
As careless as Terri seemed to be about her electronic communication, she may have given them a hint there was something more that she wanted from LS and he didn’t want LE to decide it was related to Kyron. (I still think he warned her about the sting. If it didn’t work, he probably thought both of them could be off the hook for that without more evidence.)
Was it verified that Rudy is here illegally? I thought it was only Anslemo that was thought to be here illegally. (This applies to who could hire his company and what licenses he might be able to get.)
It occurred to me that perhaps Terri asked Rudy to give DeDe a job. Does make me wonder if Terri really wanted landscaping done at home, why didn’t SHE hire DeDe? Maybe none of this would have happened if Terri had just gotten her hands dirty in legitimate, healthy ways.

I am hoping someone from Skyline elementary will chime in and let us know what the policy is for reporting absences. Every school is different. I have children in elementary, middle, and high school. Our elementary school does not call AT ALL to question an absence. One of my daughters had the H1N1 virus last year and was out for a week. On day 4 she had turned a corner and started getting better so I called the school and asked for her work, they just requested I send a Dr.s note when she returned. When one of our children is absent from the local middle or high school I Do get an automated phone call stating that they were absent from school and to please call or send a note to clear the absence but the automated system does not begin calling until 6:00 PM! so that would not be a reliable way to be notified of a missing child in our school district.
Unless skyline has a policy to call immediately when a child is marked absent I do not see this as a red flag on Terri’s part.
Also, I have been in my children’s classrooms in the morning and it is always bedlam. The teacher is trying to monitor the comings and goings of children prior to the first bell ringing, children are asking to go to the bathroom, milling around the room, sharpening pencils, trying to bring the teachers notes and tell them stories of the prior evening, the office may be calling down on the intercom, classroom rowdiness needs to be monitored, etc. etc. I have often tried to tell the teachers something important during these times and left wondering if what I said even registered with him or her. It would not suprise me a bit, especially if Terri was involved in this classroom that she was trying to tell the teacher about a Dr. appt. coming up and it was misconstrued due to all the confusion.
Again, no idea if Terri had anything to do with this but I don’t buy the Dr. appt. confusion as her way to divert attention that he was missing unless someone can confirm that Skyline ALWAYS calls parents right away if a child is marked absent.
This case has made me look at things I do on a daily basis and think “now what would that look like to an outsider if they were investigating me for something”. Frankly, I have a very innocent, sometimes boring life, but if you were to pick apart my facebook pictures and count pics of my birth children vs.step children and try to psychoanalyze my updates and why I went to one store over another, and drove down road A instead of road B when it was quicker, etc. I’m sure you could invent some totally random profile of me that would be totally incorrect since you don’t know me.
I agree there are many pieces that don’t look right here but I still think each thing can be explained away and can be cooincidence.
I will admit that I am rooting for Terri not to be involved because this hits a little close to home for me, I have children this age (Kyron and Kiarra’s age), I am involved in their school, I am parenting a stepchild fultime, I like to go to the gym, etc. Of course I’d never cheat on my husband so I guess in the end, the most important thing is finding Kyron and bringing him home.
The local news stations are reporting that the massive search effort this weekend (the largest since Kyron was first reported missing) is based upon information provided by De De. If true, it would certainly indicate that Terri is, in fact, directly involved or has information about Kyron’s disappearance. De De may be directly involved as well; perhaps she was given a “deal” for her cooperation?

I can imagine that.. maybe TH was a little leery of going home immediately (after being spooked by someone at the school ‘stalking’ her)? She went to public places. Maybe the call to DD was more for her to see where the person that spooked her was at… once she got an all clear (person back on the job? confirmed by DD?) TH went home knowing Kaine would be home soon. Then it hits the fan when Kyron doesn’t get off the bus, TH realizes she covered her own butt… But a reasonable person would’ve come clean about that? Right?

There is much private property on Sauvie Island. My friend has an organic farm there. Some of the properties have gates. There is also a public park and nude beach. You can drive around all day and see relatively few people. If you want privacy not far from Portland, it’s a good, quiet place to go. There’s only one bridge to the island, but you can reach it quite easily by boat.
P.S. Tarmancer You seem to me to be a class act. After I unintentionally may have offended you, you offered an olive branch. I appreciate that. And as far as the zinnia goes, it is one of my favorite flowers for several reasons. Please forgive me if it sounds too hokey. It is a hearty flower that thrives in sometimes harsh conditions. If you cut it back, it only grows stronger and multiplies. And the brilliant and varied colors that a zinnia can become, is to me, a metaphor for how I love to experience diversity and individuality in the world.
As far as my amateur analysis of TH’s facebook profile and her apparent political leanings, I was not intending to make any political statement at all. When I saw that she seemed to endorse someone who is a right wing conservative extremist, I thought that if TH was possibly dabbling in so many deviant behaviors such as the sexting, the MFH, and everything else, it seemed incongruent with someone who posted their support for someone with such an extremely rigid moral stance as Angle.
Now, having said that, I hope that I haven’t offended more people. I have dear friends and family who are very conservative and right wing. I am not trying to say that one is right and the other is wrong, but that there are some possible incongruous behaviors going on here with TH.

The search that was reported to be going on today on the east side of Skyline school tends to suggest to me that information gleaned from the GJ proceedings may have yielded clues about the possible location of remains. I can’t imagine why else they would be re-searching that area which has undoubtedly been searched multiple times since Kyron’s disappearance. Maybe someone is talking finally.

Searchers went to search more at skyline based upon “TIPS” related to Dede. I fear this tip may have come from the now deleted thread on godlikeproductions that was started by Dede’s cousin Tom Jones. The thread was shut down a couple days ago when they were talking about searching the area without law enforcement! The thread, which was highly volitile, was almost 200 pages long. L.E. surely combed the posts in there (some of which were allegedly confirmed to be Dede) and I’m not surprised it got shut down. The truth is, things don’t look good for Terri’s friends.
TERRI’s FRIENDS NOT ONLY BOUGHT HER CELL PHONES UNDER FAKE NAMES TO HIDE FROM L.E., they have been posting regularly on forums and comment sections LYING about details of the case. TERRI’S “FRIENDS” DESERVE TO BE PROSECUTED FOR OBSTRUCTING JUSTICE.

Oh Michelle, after reading your post I looked into this and researched a little about child trafficking in Portland, and I’m just sick. I think if I were Kyron’s bio parents I would be about at the point of beating the crap out of TH. I know that wouldn’t help find Kyron and would more than likely make the situation worse, but I’m just not sure how much I could stand.
Perhaps TH needed money to pay off a debt to someone. At first she offered up Kaine so she could get the life insurance and pay off the debt. Then there were doubts or concerns about her having immediate access to funds even with his life insurance. Perhaps then, whoever she owed the debt took Kyron. Perhaps to ask for Ransom. Then when that didn’t go as planned…oh never mind. I can’t go on. This is making me sick.

Just saying…………….any involvement that one of you has had when it comes to hurting this little boy…you will never get rid of the pain you have caused…life has a funny way of making sure of that.
One thing I haven’t discussed in regard to TH is what it means for Kyron if I am wrong. I am not giving up my position that there to date is not enough hard evidence to link TH to Ky’s disappearance. But I am a big enough girl to admit that I really don’t want TH to be guilty or even complicit in this crime. Because that means that the parent who spent the most time with Kyron, who threw him birthday parties and bought toys and candy for his easter baskets, turned on him and did the unthinkable. And I can’t fathom the betrayal this little angel must have felt if that is true. When you all declare that I am an advocate, it really isnt TH I am advocating for. I want justice for Kyron. And I want to be damn sure the responsible party is put away.
@ Mockingbirdsings: Hubby & I are long time friends~like family~known them for 50 yrs~… the owner of Sauvie Islands Farms ~ generations of family ~ the farm has been sold & passed down & everyone knows everyone ~(we were all over the farm this past weekend) It is not gated although private properties (if you are an outsider)are not able to accessed to the general public.. Everyone knows everyone & the unknown Islanders are truly noticed~My hubbys brother lives there too ~ a lot of land & water there but as I said “the outsiders are noticed ” a lot of house boats where I dont remember seeing them before ~!
The grand jury takin’ on Kyron’s disappearence instead of the murder for hire plot gave me a clue they have much more than I thought they did on Kyron’s being missing. Now with whatever DDS is givin’ them it looks like they will probably get the indictment they were looking for.
Good! Let’s get this little boy home on way or the other!

A lot of duck hunting areas that have an unseasonably wet year~ a real money making thing for the people that live there & lease their land for that purpose~~~ an EXTREMELY wet year ~ they have so many areas this yr that are unplantable but hmmmm one wonders what else could have been hidden there~
And Blink, thank you for speaking for me earlier. You can step in for me anytime. :O) The kiddos (twin 3.5 yr olds) moved into seperate rooms this weekend so we were very busy sorting stuffed animals, etc.

Thank you both for the input. I really don’t know – Blink has said many times that this was a lifestyle choice by Terri, I’m guessing as opposed to a “murder your stepchild” plot. I can’t help but think that Blink has more info than we do, but can’t publish it due to the investigation. There are so many pieces that don’t fit right now. I must admit from the minute I viewed the first family press conference, I thought Terri was acting weird and I formed the opinion that she had something to do with Kyrons disappearance. I really hope that something breaks soon. It will be a relief to know what really happened. I just hope that Kyron is still with us, but I don’t think he is. I hope he didn’t suffer if that’s the case, but I can’t wrap my head around why anyone would harm such a sweet kid. This case will haunt many people, without a doubt, no matter what the investigation reveals in the end.
sorry LOL this is like I am post scripting~ but if you are trespassing on private land , you had better believe YOU are noticed but there is a lot of area where you would go un-noticed cuz of the marketing of produce

Why the various and unusual agencies all working this case? What if during the initial stages of background checking, pulling phone numbers, viewing e-mails, etc., LE discovered a connection between the LS and some nefarious perps?
If this scenario is plausible, LE might be using the LS as a tool to help them “weed out” the real players involved in Kyron’s disappearance.
Real players – I tend to feel that MC & or DDS are involved. MC has a bad rap as a druggie and a liar per his ex-wife. She had nothing good to say about him in an article she wrote. He also knew TH BEFORE June 4th as I already mentioned a couple of weeks ago. I don’t think this is a coincidence.
DDS – She is sneaky and a liar. The recent news suggests that she is still hiding info from LE.
TH did not think that she was going to be caught and I believe this will be her undoing. Early on when Desiree received the call from school telling her about Kyron, she asked if KH or TH were there – they were. Desiree immediately phoned TH and told her they were coming right up from Medford. TH made the comment to Desiree “you are?” Desiree felt this was a very strange statement (which it was). I tend to think this is when reality started to hit TH. Tony was coming up and she was going to have to face him – knowing that he was a cop and they are trained to recognize “liars”.
I am honestly not sure if I ever commented on it publicly or not, but when I analyzed the first press conf, with all 4 parents in our “war room”, I knew immediately that Tony Young at least suspected Terri of something nefarious. His body language was clear to me.
