Updating -Family, friends await homecoming of Amanda Knox

Knox’s uncle, Michael Huff, said Tuesday he would give her a big hug. A former middle school official said she couldn’t wait to talk to Knox and welcome her home. And her elated grandmother, Elisabeth Huff, said she and her family would do everything they could “to get Amanda back to a normal life.”

“We all are as happy as can be. I can’t tell you how long we’ve been looking forward to this day,” she told The Associated Press outside her home in West Seattle, a tight-knit community a few miles across Elliott Bay from downtown.

“I felt like a huge rock fell off me,” she said, recounting how she heard the verdict Monday night on television. “It was like the weight of the world had gone. Now I can look forward to sleeping at night. We were just jumping with joy.”

I am glad to see this young woman escape such a contrived situation.
The Italians had to blame someone and who better to hang the crime on than an American that could not protect herself.

This needs to be a big time lesson to all parents of young women who want to go to Europe or other countries alone at such a young age. They cannot protect themselves physically or legally.

And I definately agree with Mr. Ellington as an example for the prosecutor who doesn’t understand what happened.

Off Topic re: the Amber Alert for Lisa Irwin

Could it actually be a *good* sign that the AAlert was called off?

The Department of Justice recommends the following criteria for an Amber Alert:
    * There is reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred.
    * The law enforcement agency believes that the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.

RE Lisa Irwin case…it’s getting weird; stories changing, etc. Just heard report that now this a.m. they’re (parents) claiming their cell phones were stolen too. Also heard father interviewed…I’m no expert at how people act when their kid is missing, etc but I was struck by the lack of emotion, nd their demeanor at the live presser. I suspect foul play by family members, myself.

  22. Blink says:

    Nancy Jo.
The first thing that popped into my head was baby Sabrina if you recall that case. Upon watching the parents speak, I can tell you first hand that these parents were not coached by the FBI which in an alleged stranger abduction case , does not happen.

    It went like this.

Just tell the public in your own way what happened and that you don’t care who or why, just return her safely.

The Mom interrupting the dad and saying they had two other boys at home waiting for her spoke volumes to me.

One or both knows more than they are saying, imo.

  23. TandT says:

Ok, I haven’t followed the Knox case closely so I am in no way stating anyone is guilty of anything but I have 2 questions. Last I read about this Amanda and her boyfriend could not agree with each other’s alibi’s for that night, what they told the cops was found out to not be true as in they did not watch movies on the BF’s computer as Amanda stated they had done, and he could not remember if Amanda had been with him that night or not. What on this has changed as I have not kept up?
Also, what about the fact that I read they both had their cell phones turned off from about 8PM the night of the killing till 6 am the next day?

I believe Sollecito after being told Amanda fingered him, he actually said, well I was asleep so I guess she could have left when I was sleeping… Patently false about the cell phones, Sollecito called his Dad in an emergency because the plumbing backed up, which necessitated Amanda having to return for a shower to her place at all. The last reciprocated correspondence on the computer was approximately 9:10PM, but keep in mind the door locked from the inside, it had to have been open for Guede to get out. This is where I think he panicked, broke the upstairs window and realized it was not safe to jump out, and decided to leave out the front taking Meredith’s keys with him.

Mother says they call Lisa “Pumpkin Pie,” and that about killed me because that was our nickname for one of our babies.

With the other kids there in the house (one 8 years old), there are real time limits to when/what could have happened.

Regarding Sabrina, that case was never solved, was it?

Never, and they botched it in Federal Court in 1999. I remember this case passionately, my Blinkette who was 6 weeks early, was a month older than Sabrina Aisenberg.

Blink, I don’t agree on that theory. Unless that big rock was already sitting around in the house, which I didn’t see asserted anywhere.

You may be right, I don’t remember the rock, just the glass on top of clothes. I only know it locks from the inside, so I am not sure how they lock it behind them, or if someone needs to be home or they use an alternate exit so it was locked or what.

  29. A Texas Grandfather says:

I don’t remember anything about the mop. If Blink’s comment about Redrock is correct, you can bet that the mop was something that never happened and the police made up the story to tie Amanda to the scene.

I agree with the idea that the police were about as inept as any LE agency can be. The first trial IMO was all about making the prosecutor look good as well as the judge.

This is why I made the earlier post about not letting young women go alone to a foriegn country. They become easy targets for every type of abuse. This is not limited to women, young men are just as likely to become targets. Traveling in a group is the only way.

She grabbed the mop ostensibly because she was of the opinion there was an intruder in the house at that point and she grabbed it and took off downstairs.

Of course it is not humorous, but it is ridiculous that a woman they accused of such a heinous and calculated act run out of the murder scene with a mop in hand.

    B

  30. A Texas Grandfather says:

    Bam

I would think that Amanda needs time to be with her family. Is this her idea or someone else?

If the boyfriend is important in Amanda’s life, he will take the steps to make it happen. They were not engaged that I know about. I think we have some female who wants to play cupid making such a statement.

  31. John says:

Interesting to me that most here seem to think Amanda and her boyfriend are innocent, and some even celebrating their homecoming.
I am not so sure. I do think the Italians were behaving badly and made things up to convict, because they had no evidence. However, a lot of behaviours remind me of C. A., and IMO they are the same type of girl, probably taking some of the same drugs, with the same type of memory problems. I do not think Amanda is telling the truth about much of anything.

Respectfully, I have no idea how you can draw that conclusion. The Cword had a lifelong track record of narcissism, and evading responsibility of any kind, with an enabling chaser from her parents.

Amanda Knox was an academic achiever, and Socellito was her second boyfriend in her 20 years of life. She actually had 3 jobs to pay her way for her graduate work in Umbria, which is how her parents who tried to talk her out of it, really had no choice but to support her.

In jail, Knox learned her 6th fluent language, she was not drafting letters about a mobile ministry with a con serving a life sentence, in the hopes her notes would be intercepted to support her bullshit defense.

Don’t have the link, but the ex-boyfriend (Sollecito) coming to Seattle was mentioned in an “article” something like this.

Sollecito’s father, when asked, said that they had not talked to the Knox family, but that another relative said (sister, cousin?) that Amanda’s stepfather had said sometime that Sollecito should come to Seattle sometime. When asked about that on the phone, Sollecito himself said something like I don’t know, maybe some day, I just want to spend time at home with my family now.

In other words, a “reporter” (and I use the term very loosely) tried very hard to generate a headline.

  34. Babybear says:

I’m going to start by saying I don’t know much about this case, certainly not enough to form an opinion about Amanda Knox’s guilt or innocence. Is it true that she said that Meredith always locked her door and it turned out that she actually never locked her door? I know that she accused the man she worked for, Lamumba, and he was proved to be innocent. Slandering him was the only conviction which the appeals court upheld.)Also, one version of her story was that she was there when Meredith was killed and she held her hands over her ears so as not to hear the screaming. On the day after the murder, she and her boyfriend went out to buy sexy underwear for her (There is a security video tape of this showing their making out.) And lastly, she acted somewhat strange after she was arrested, turning cartwheels in the police station.

None of these things prove her guilty, but they are strange, if true.

  35. Disappointed says:

The scenes of adulation at the airport, with Knox’s supporters treating her return like a party, were completely tastless and will do very little for the worlds opinion of Americans.

On the other side of the world a family continue to grieve for their daughter, and are left with little or no answer to the question of what happened to her.

Meanwhile Amanda Knox who can not be 100% cleared or convicted of the murder, lines up her next book deal and America celebrates.

Amanda was acquitted, meaning cleared, declared innocent, under Italian law.

There was not, and never was a shred of circumstantial or physical evidence against this girl.

I completely agree that the kercher’s are victims as well, but their beef should be with the Satanic Panic Prosecutor of Perugia, who should be under indictment (again) before this is over.

    Theory is not evidence.

More on him when I get 5.

To add on to the whole mop situation, I recall it saying in the Rolling Stones article that was posted upthread that her boyfriend was having plumbing problems. It stated Amanda had gone home to shower and grab a mop.

  37. Eloise says:

Justis- I agree- I read the same thing in that article regarding why the mop was in hand- due to their plumbing emergency.

    O/T:
The Lisa baby situation also reminds me of Haleigh Cummings.
How come Mom didn’t notice the whole house was lit up like a Xmas tree? And 3 cells phones? Well where was Dad’s? He is mighty quiet during all of this. I watched earlier on a news update, they had some waving of the arms while in the back of the house with the cops and then left in a hurry in their car. Apparently was about why the LE was searching in the back again. LE says they are mighty steep cliffs behind the home. :(

Blink, agreed, they are very different in accademic achievement. I was not really looking at that. (Casey did have a child to take care
of when she was far too immature to do so) I blame her parents for that. They should have let Casey give the baby up, as she wanted to.
I was comparing some looks on their faces, for one thing. (I know, not very scientific, but interesting to me. I study faces, I know people. I paint faces.)
BTW. I do hope you are all completely right about Amanda, and that she can get on with her life. She has a chance, now, and that is good. I hope the same thing for Casey.
MOO, but I think they were both high, and foggy, and as a result unsure of WTH happened on the nights of the murders. Lessons learned?
IDK, but do wish the best for both of them. Reluctant to say more
with regards to my feelings of Amanda’s involvement.

  39. Löni says:

Hello Blink and Blinkers. It is very difficult when you don’t know someone to have a true picture of this person. I’ve learned trough the media another Amanda.
According to Meredith friends and Roommates the relationship between the Meredith and AK wasn’t that good:
AK and Meredith fell out over BF and Housework in the Weeks before the Murder.
Ak often skipped her turn to clean the bathroom, exposes her dildo and condoms in Open wiew wich disturbed Meredith
Ak often forgot to flush her toilet and had a lack of personnal Hygiene. She would bring a Strange man Home for a One Night stand ( Meredith wasn’t there that night but She didn’t like it)
when you read on the Internet for example Fox News or Daily Mail and many other sites that AK had four Men in Seattle and NY 3 in Florence and Perugia, that She had sex on Train with a stranger, that she did drugs and alcohol. Academic achiever speaking 6 languages fluently having had 3 Jobs woa! But reading all those things in the Media for the last few year you tell yourself AK what a chick! If true what was told about her character, it doesn ‘t make her a murder but with the controversials statements she made i see her as narcistic as CA but a lot more intelligent for sure. I don’t want to offend you because i like you all so forgive me for having another take on AK.( you can have my skin but you will not have my soul:))) I respect that you like her and she made your day as She went free. She did not make mine

Quotes from A Frost: “she made faces they’d kissed. In that moment i thaught she was going crazy.”

  40. Löni says:

I don’t know how the quote from A Frost went on my First post then i wanted to delete it. Sorry i had quotes Meredith friends but i deleted them and forgot that one

  41. Löni says:

i don’t doubt about AK innocence because of reading” articles” that had paint AK in a bad light but because of facts and statements from AK and RS, their alibis and so much more that are documented for example in truejustice org. or one or two others serious sites

  42. firstwife says:

Blink, I have to respectfully disagree with you on your conclusions in this case. I have followed it from the beginning. There is a Huge amount of misinformation about the facts of the case, propagated by the Knox family’s $1M PR team. Sadly, no one in the mainstream media ever went beyond broadcasting their take on the events. She was not questioned for 50+ hours wihtout counsel, she told several inconsistent versions of what she “remembered” of that night, and most telling to me, she implicated an innocent man, and did NOT exonerate him, letting him sit in jail for 2 weeks until HIS friend produced a solid alibi for him. And she blamed that on the police. Check out the website True Justice for Meredith Kercher, and read the 400 page Massai report on the trial. This newest media blitz by the Knox family sickens me. That girl got away with murder, and many people in Washington believe that. There is a huge difference between “not guilty” and “innocent”…

  43. connie says:

I beleive Knox and her boyfriend are innocent. If I was the boyfreinds parents I would want him to get out of the country, especially with the “monster of Florence” and the rest of the wolf pack still up in arms. Just my opinion.

  44. lizzy says:

    @42. firstwife says:
    October 7, 2011 at 8:26 am

I tried to stick to reading the most reliable sources. That included reading the full Massai report. It also included some of the information at injusticeinperugia, although some of that is a little PRish. But so is some at true justice.

I just don’t find enough evidence to convict AK, without the spinning of one yarn or another for which is there is nothing else to support. Just the fact that so many different stories could be created to match the information, some including AK and some not, casts reasonable doubt. Unlike for RG, who was certainly there at the time of MK’s death.

One interesting aspect to me, on both sides of opinion, is the amount of ability, agility, power, thrall and influence accredited to AK. All accumulated within the few weeks she had been in Perugia. Right up until when she was arrested, that is.

Whereas RS was portrayed as isolated, knowing none of the parties involved, incidental, clueless, and incompetent. Despite that he was several years older, lived in Perugia with an apartment and car for years, is from a wealthy family and had a sister in the carbiniera, and apparently had the connections to obtain drugs and porn. (Plus was the kind of guy you’d take with you to pick up luggage at midnight.)

I’m not saying that RS was guilty of anything, or that there was evidence to that effect. I just can’t figure out the relative assessments of the two.

  45. John says:

    @firstwife
I cannot get away from Amanda K’s OWN words in her emails to her family and friends shortly following the murder. For example, would the police really tell Amanda all about Meridith’s body position, with her foot hanging out and the sheet over her, and the slit throat?
Seems to me if the police wanted to catch the killers they would keep this info private.
She tells her “story” like she is writing a novel. This also reminds me of Casey A., and the long fabricated stories she could make up. Amanda tells how she went out to eat “some well deserved pizza” , and that she was “starving” Well, just about everyone I know, besides Casey A., would not be too hungry after such a tragedy.
She was interested in doing cartwheels, eating, making love, etc., just like Casey and her partying after her daughter’s death.
Amanda’s email to her friends and family is way too long with too many unecessary details to be anywhere near true IMO. For example she explains how she took a shower, fumbled around the kitchen, and
Merideth had a vampire costume and had blood running down her chin, and how her boyfriend made pasta, on and on she goes. Why? None of these details are at all relevant unless you are Casey or Amanda, of course, or even urine V.
Also, her first version of the mop story is that her boyfriend SPILLED a LOT of water on the floor and did not have a mop (later that turns into a plumbing problem for which there was no mop.) Which story is true Amanda? She even ads the unecessary detail that he spilled it by “accident”. IMO Amanda is guilty of something, or she would not be trying so hard to explain everything.

  46. sunshine_4me says:

Ok, now Nancy Grace is stating Knox is guilty and she has the proof no one else has….yea, ok. She made a statement after DWTS (I think it was Access Hollywood).

One thing to remember, how credible is the source of news you are reading. Just because it is posted in a newspaper, online, etc., doesn’t make it true. I read the DailyMail articles and how they believe AK is guilty, and their reasons why. But I also view the DM as tabloid news; not factual news.
    JMO

  47. A Texas Grandfather says:

How many times have all who post here picked up a tabloid because of a headline? How many times have we mostly been disappointed with the article when we realized the headline and the article had a huge disconnect?

IMO anything written in a tabloid or most any newspaper today will have a small amount of truth and a large amount of reporter fiction.

If the real story by itself does not raise enough attention, the reporters/writers/editors will dress it up so that it reads better. Makes me sick that we cannot trust newspapers or main stream TV to report the truth from real facts.

  48. A Texas Grandfather says:

    SuZ

Thanks for your link to the John Douglas interview by Krista Errickson. While Mr. Douglas speaks of the errors the investigators made in Italy, there are errors either by him or the reporter when he speaks of the WM3 case. Two things jumped out at me in the WM3 case references. Mr. Douglas talks about the investigators in the State of Tennessee and he speaks of the boys being placed in a river.

Did he actually make those mistakes or is this simply reporter/editor mistakes?

We don’t know. So a person not familiar with his work or the WM3 case
would be totally misled by the article regarding those references.

  49. Löni says:

To a Texas Grandfather 4:51 pm october 7
i totally agree with you. We have to look better behind each headline. I promess you that i question the most of those. I prefer personally to pray and fight for an innocent Person than to write only one opinion about à guilty one. And i can tell you that in this special case i didn’t made up my mind because of headlines but because of reading from people that did almost nothing else that study mainly this case under all its aspects. I wish AK to be innocent yes Mister i do. I wish to be wrong for me it’s only an opinion but for AK it’s all about her Life.
I like to read in this Blog because Blink goes also behind headlines as you all do. Sometimes we defer in opinions because finally, the truth ”our thruth only” is in the eye of the beholder.
I wish nothing more despite all this that we never forget about the wonderfull woman Meredith Kercher is and was and about the suffering from the dign and humble Kercher family

  50. A Texas Grandfather says:

    Loni

Yes, you are correct about Meredith Kercher. She is no longer among the living, but her family and friends will remember who and what she was in life. None can give her back life.

My distrust for most of the media is so great that I find it hard to believe the information they report. Is Amanda Knox guilty of all those things some posters believe? Is she a “wild child” as potreyed?
She was reported to be a gifted student. Does that mean that she was gifted in all ways? Gifted people may be slightly different in their behavior, but IMO they do not participate in the drug culture on the low end of society.

Unless one understands the Italian language and could read the police and court records, it is not possible to get at reasonable information. In addition, I believe that the police and the court in the original trial were on a mission to make as many as possible guilty.

Was the guy from the African continent the sole perp? He was the only one that ran to escape prosecution. How does he fit into the daily lives of the deceased and Amanda and her boyfriend? Do we have the true facts? I doubt it.
