Missing NC Woman Holly Fischer ( UPDATE BODY FOUND): Pending Divorce From Ali Girit Upset Her- Tennesse Police Ask For Public Help

Holly Christine Fischer, 39, has been missing since Monday May 27th.  (UPDATE: THE BODY OF HOLLY FISCHER HAS BEEN LOCATED NEAR HER CAR, WHICH WENT OVER A CLIFF OFF OF 16 IN NC)

She has not been seen nor heard from since leaving her parents’ home in Knoxville, TN according to a missing persons report filed by her Father Ted.

Ted Fischer described his daughter as “upset” when she left the home Memorial Day- over her pending divorce from estranged husband Ali Ozan Girit. Fischer states that he spoke to Girit and inquired as to his daughter’s whereabouts but Girit proclaimed he has not seen Holly since she left Tennessee.

Holly Fischer, a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Parsons School of Design was a regional sales manager for Discovery Communications through last year.

She has worked in the fashion and design industry for brands like Club Monaco and DKNY.

Girit, a competitive bodybuilder and training manger of LA Fitness according to his linked in profile, signed over a deed to the couples Huntersville home in January of this year. Girit is a former resident of Weehawken, NJ and worked security in New York City in 2009.

Holly Fischer left her parents’ home in Knox County on Monday May 27th and friend Liz Stafford Ajello called the Fischer’s when Holly had not arrived by Wednesday. Ms. Ajello went as far as to suggest foul play is involved in Holly’s disappearance.   Police are focusing their efforts on the area approximately 100 miles  away based on pings from Fischers phone in Ashe and Wilkes counties.

Coward said Fischer’s father told authorities his daughter was upset about her upcoming divorce.

“Her parents seem to think she might have decided to go to Ashe County, to collect herself,” said Liz Stafford, who said she has been a friend of Fischer’s for more than 20 years, dating back to their days as students at Charlotte Latin School.

Holly is believed to be driving her vehicle- a  UPDATE: DARK GRAY*  2004 Infinity FX 35 and was last seen in Newport wearing a white blouse, denim shorts and sandals. She is blonde with brown eyes, approximately 5’10” and 140 lbs.
Her license plate is registered in North Carolina DMV and is XYH6678. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is JNRAS08W64X203396
Anyone that may have seen her or her vehicle is asked to contact  911

First time poster on this case, but had been involved in posting on the Morgan Harrington case many years back.

I personally feel there are two options here:

    1. An animal ran in to the road and without thinking, Holly swerved to avoid it. I have done that before, and its totally possible you would do that without checking rearview mirror, etc. or anything. Your first instinct is to avoid the animal, and by the time your second instinct of navigation comes in, its too late

    2. Texting and driving. Maybe she was looking at Google maps or something and ended up looking down for more than 1 second.

Looking at overhead video footage where LE has indicated a trajectory with orange paint, and looking at the parking lot/scene photos, it “looks” like the vehicle path may have followed the light posts on the right on the passenger side.

    40. response to Blink:

I based my remarks in large part on comments in these two articles.

Holly Fischer was last seen Monday leaving her parents home in Tennessee. Several agencies have been looking for her.

Fischer’s husband, Ali Givit, is staying in Charlotte while authorizes search for his wife.

“I’m hoping they can find her as soon as possible,” said Givit.

“We were supposed to meet when she come back Charlotte. She was supposed to call me on Monday so I called and texted her but she never responded,” said Givit.

Givit and Fischer are legally married but currently separated.

“I know it has been real tough on her,” said Givit.

He hopes her disappearance is her way of taking time off.

“She’s not the kind of person who would do anything weird or stupid,” said Givit.

Givit says he last spoke to her Saturday and told her he was moving to California. He said she seemed happy to hear the news. He said the more time goes by, the more he thinks the worst has happened

“I don’t want to think anything bad but she’s been missing since Monday,” said Givit.

Authorities say Fischer used her bank card Monday afternoon at a convenience store on Interstate 40 in Newport, Tenn., east of Knoxville and along the route she always traveled between her parents’ home and Charlotte.

Her roommate at a South End apartment called Fischer’s parents Wednesday when she had not returned, and the parents then contacted Knox County authorities.

Fischer’s father told authorities his daughter was upset about her upcoming divorce.

“Her parents seem to think she might have decided to go to Ashe County to collect herself,” said Liz Stafford, who said she has been a friend of Fischer’s for more than 20 years, dating back to their days as students at Charlotte Latin School.

Stafford said she finds it difficult to believe her friend would have decided to switch plans and head for the North Carolina mountains – unless she had been abducted.

“I’ve known Holly for 20 years, and she doesn’t make decisions on a whim,” Stafford said. “She was last seen in Newport. Clearly, she was headed for Charlotte. If she had planned to go to Ashe County, she would have gone a different route.”

“If she were abducted, however, then anything is possible,” Stafford added.

She said she hopes Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are involved in the search.

Officer Keith Trietley, a spokesman for CMPD, did not disclose the specifics of the department’s involvement. But he confirmed that CMPD had been contacted by Knox County authorities and “was doing anything asked of us.”

It was my understanding Ms. Fisher was meeting Girit at the house in Huntersville. Can’t find the source on that.

Thanks for your comment. I have experience with someone who took their life. This person was one who had few friends and was a loner. Women who are suicidal make several attempts before actually succeeding. Few would willingly drive over the edge of an 800 ft. high ridge. Most women commit suicide by overdose of medication.

Based on the description of Holly and how she interacted with others, along with her success at work leads me to make that statement.

We can hope that LE will find the evidence to determine a homicide or a suicide.

Blink’s reply to tiberious is also another reason to question suicide. This woman was a college grad with several years work experience. If she were going to commit suicide, IMO she would have made certain to provide a will to protect her assets.

I fully believe that the ex husbands every movement from the time of the message about the exchange of the car until he left for California needs to be thoroughly checked by LE.

Lovely- You mentioned you are new. Welcome….You might not be aware that there is at least 35-40 feet of extra pavement to the right on this curve and it is uphill. Lots of room for correction from brief inattention or room to leave evidence of correction attempts before going over. This road is on the way to her father’s condo from Charlotte. She should be familiar with it already. These are some of the things that are so puzzling to so many.

  9. GeorgiaDad says:

A major problem with suicide-by-car is that it is almost indistinguishable from an accident. It is estimated that a significant number of single-vehicle crashes are intentional. The actual incidence is unknowable because, in the case of fatal accidents, we cannot interview the drivers. I lean towards an intentional act, but doubt there will ever be any proof of that, and suspect that the coroner will eventually list it as an accident (this would be less traumatizing to her family).

Concerning homicide, I have yet to see any evidence of that released to the public. Although there are a lot of women listed down the left side of Blink’s pages who were murdered or allegedly murdered by their significant others, uxoricide is not a common cause of death for married women.

If she died intestate, then the husband benefits financially to some extent. But, we don’t know the husband’s current financial state, whether or not HF had life insurance, the value of the house (if there was equity) As such, LE should investigate, but I find it unlikely he was involved.

For him to have been involved, he would somehow have to contact her in order to divert her from her planned course. In this case there would be a cyber trail (cell call, text message, email) recoverable from her phone. You can’t just abduct a woman driving 70 mph down the interstate.

    2 brief comments:
1)I admit I used google to find the word uxoricide.
    2) My daughter dropped her cell phone 2 feet and the Gorilla glass shattered. My wife’s computer falls off the couch and has to be replaced. yet, HF’s phone survives a 800 foot fall and Travis Alexander’s digital camera survives a washing machine. Sometime there seems to be a higher force at work.

    Hi ATG,

You had said, “I don’t believe this young woman is the type to take her own life.” With all due respect, how can we make that assumption? There is no “type” for someone that takes their life. Her father indicated that she was upset when she left their home so we cannot eliminate this as a possibility.

In college I had a professor in mass communications law who was a strong, independent woman. She was successful, accomplished, articulate and attractive. And she committed suicide. We cannot guess who is struggling with suicidal thoughts from exterior appearances.

Furthermore, I’m disturbed by the misperception in this comment by Leland (sorry, I’m not picking on you): “Most suicidal people use it as a manipulative maneuver (that’s why they threaten or communicate their intent first).” This is incorrect. ATTEMPTED suicide may be a desperate call for help, but this is very different than someone who chooses an un-doable method of ending their life.
    ______________________________________________________

Agree mosaic. Anyone who does not know her very well (not to mention those who don’t know her at all) has no idea if she was suicidal at that moment or not. She may well have been struggling with depression — medicated or not. That info is private until someone discloses it. Even people who do think they know someone well are often stunned when they kill themselves or attempt to.

While looking to see if airbags leave some sort of computer information when deployed, I did learn of a vehicle computer module called the Event Data Recorder (EDR) used for Crash Data Retreival (CDR).

    Fascinating.

Don’t know if Nissan/Infiniti were installing these EDR modules as early as 2003/2004. If Holly’s Infiniti had its airbags deploy at a different point in time through the years, perhaps one was installed then. If an EDR was present and intact to download information, it would be a part of the story for her vehicle to tell.

    example, General Motors airbag module:

    (snipped from linked website)

“The air bag SDM recorder can offer extremely valuable vehicle data in the final 5 seconds leading up to an accident or air bag deployment event.”

    (snipped)

GM AIR BAG SDM / BLACK BOX / EDR / CRASH DATA AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD:
(depending on model year and SDM module configuration)

Vehicle speed (in five one-second intervals preceding impact)
Engine speed (in five one-second intervals preceding impact)
Brake status (in five one-second intervals preceding impact)
Throttle position (in five one-second intervals preceding impact)
    Driver’s seat belt state (On/Off)
Passenger’s airbag enabled or disabled state (On/Off)
    Airbag Warning Lamp status (On/Off)
Time from vehicle impact to airbag deployment
    Maximum Delta-V ( DV ) for near-deployment event
Delta-V ( DV ) vs. time for frontal airbag deployment event
Time from vehicle impact to time of maximum Delta-V ( DV )
Time between near-deploy and deploy event (if within 5 seconds)

ADDITIONAL CRASH DATA AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD 2006 AND NEWER GM VEHICLES:
Low tire pressure warning system status
    Traction control status
    Anti lock brake status
    Transmission range
    Service engine lamp status
    Vehicle door 2/4 status open/closed
Outside air temperature in degrees F
    Passenger seat belt switch
    Yaw rate
    Lateral acceleration
    Steering wheel angle
PDOF / Principal direction of force degrees

Something else about airbags. Once they rapidly and fully inflate, they begin a deflation. Holly’s Infiniti had front and side airbags. The bags could have cushioned her in place for a time before that was no longer possible. Possible, speculative explanation why she was found close to her vehicle.

“Front airbags normally do not protect the occupants during side, rear, or rollover accidents.[50] Since airbags deploy only once and deflate quickly after the initial impact, they will not be beneficial during a subsequent collision. Safety belts help reduce the risk of injury in many types of crashes. They help to properly position occupants to maximize the airbag’s benefits and they help restrain occupants during the initial and any following collisions.”

“In vehicles equipped with a rollover sensing system, accelerometers and gyroscopes are used to sense the onset of a rollover event. If a rollover event is determined to be imminent, side-curtain airbags are deployed to help protect the occupant from contact with the side of the vehicle interior, and also to help prevent occupant ejection as the vehicle rolls over.”

Your post about the black box information on vehicles is true. Our third son was assistant shop manager for a city of more than 100,000.
One of his tasks was to use equipment to recover data from vehicles involved in an accident. There is a protocol requiring certification of the equipment and the operator. He has testified in many court cases regarding his findings. It is an interesting subject with regard to the data captured.

Most vehicles sold in the United States after 2006 are equipped with multiple computers to manage fuel flow and timing. Others are there to record data about the vehicle operation and will record speed, terrain, wheel turns and braking as well as deployment of air bags and other safety equipment.

Memory has improved so that many minutes of data are kept. This is stored in memory that retains its data for a long time. Someone or more than one in N.C. should be certified to retrieve all this information.

This is also valuable to capture regarding the actual time the vehicle actually made the first impact after going over the cliff. There are sensors that could help determine if the impact was on the front or rear of the car. Seat belt closures are also monitored. Transmission information is available to determine what gear it was in at the time of impact.

  15. A Texas Grandfather says:

If air bags have been deployed and were not replaced by a factory trained technician, they may not work properly. There was a case where some independent shops were retrieving air bags from junk yards that often did not work.

The list of things monitored by the computers and stored in the “black box” memory is much more than we have listed.

If I am following you correctly, can any outfit that monitors or adapts to Infiniti collect their data? BC I came across this Bosch site that seems to support Infiniti and many others,

General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Fiat, Toyota/Lexus/Scion, Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infiniti, Suzuki, Mazda, Volvo, and BMW/Rolls-Royce

According to Polk data (the automotive data and marketing solutions leader) for 2011, over 40% of the passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks that are on the road and registered are supported with the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Tool. Bosch is the only manufacturer that makes a commercially available CDR Tool and Crash Data Group is the exclusive distributor in the USA and a reseller for Bosch Canada. ATG,

Thanks for the additional information. I found the entire topic of the module and data recovery absolutely fascinating and was up for a long time last night reading.

Read something about air bag warning lights coming on and staying on even though no event occurred. A technician (trained and certified as you said) would have to get into the air bag module to “clear and reset” the stored and “stuck” data. I did read some owner reviews of the 2004 Infiniti FX35 that did have this problem, but I can’t find if this was a standard factory installed module back then or what.

Hopefully Holly’s vehicle has a “black box” of some type, intact and data can be retrieved.

What do you think the odds are that it has one, ATG?

  23. A Texas Grandfather says:

The Infiniti was designed to be a top quality medium sized auto. I would bet that there is some type of crash detection system on board.

Computers and electronics for automobiles was one of the driving forces for building computers on a chip beginning around 1980. Ford and General Motors began to use this technology more and more in their designs. The big American auto makers and the leading European makers often have large ownership positions in other companies. This means they share design and manufacture among the several companies.

Computers on a chip were not very common when micros were first designed. We need the Central Processing Unit, an I/O system and memory to make a complete computer. The technology of the 1970′s was not advanced enough to include all of the necessary memory. This changed during the 1980′s.

My wife’s 1982 Buick had an on-board computer to monitor the engine and combustion system. It also monitored temperature. The read-out was through the radio dial that was a single line LCD. Access to the information was input through the station select system. We thought is was grand that anyone could use this as a troubleshooting device.

Most car manufacturers purchase systems designed and made by others for inclusion in their vehicles. As some have read, Bosch is a leading maker of equipment. They have made their readout tool available to the mechanics outside the dealer shops.

This information was first used in aircraft and the value of it was known to insurance companies. This then spilled over to LE for a way to get physical information for accident investigations.

The problem in an accident is keeping the power source operating during the accident event. In the case of the accident over the cliff, the engine would need to be running to drive the Alternator or the battery would have to be intact. There may be some local rechargeable batteries associated with some of the modules. I don’t have a recent set of electrical schematics to refer to regarding that possibility.

Software for the read-out tool is unique for each system manufacturer. The early tools were built with ROMS and required a ROM for each model variant. Today, that code is probably stored on an SD card or other type of solid state memory.

This is exactly why a family such as Holly’s needs to hire expert advice to get all the facts possible.

The crash detection system could determine if the engine was running or not, if the ignition switch was in the “on” position, the speed of the vehicle and many other things important to getting a “picture” of the event.

  24. Rose says:

I feel the choice is broader than suicide or foul play–to me it ‘s more likely an accident, the modern social communications type.
Obtaining money from a machine, buying a snack, traveling to parents’ condo don’t seem the acts of a depressive to me, nor one likely to act impulsively. It’s possible she remembered somethingshe wanted from the condo before turning over the car.

On the other hand I can see a woman traveling alone, sad & lonely & without company in the car turning as she probably often did to check for incoming text messages from friends & ex. Apparently she communicated a lot by text.
The conditions were good. The road was uphill. She was familiar with it. could thereforehave been overconfident. I can see myself & others checking for incoming.

I have been driven a lot the last 2 weeks on 2 lane PA roads by my daughter. The young are so unwary, with such a sense of invulnerability in this techno age. It’s amazing how fast those right wheels come close to wet soft dirt or no shoulder but for a bit of crumbled asphalt area, & how much the modern driver doesn’t realize with what quickness a slight variation can cause disaster. I’ve seen my daughter “check the cell” at lights a couple times. If she were driving alone, tense, she too has a close social group; & I can see her reaching for the cell in her purse to see if anyone had connected.

So I think the reading of an accident reasonable. If distracted, no braking is consistant with a quick surprise.

  25. A Texas Grandfather says:

One important thing that I forgot to mention was the VIN number that Blink posted in her article.

There is a VIN program available to LE and others that lists every component used in the assembly of a vehicle. The search engine requires the make and VIN number to find the information. The data is updated by subscription quarterly. Dealers often use this information in the repair shops to get the part numbers for replacement of mechanical, electrical and body parts.

Most people never see the factory manuals for their vehicle. They make a stack of paper about two feet high. Today, they would probably be produced on DVD with a print capability.

  27. Inda says:

Any thoughts on this in light of the new information?

Ms. Fischer’s debit card made it as far as West Jefferson (where her parents had a condo.) Wonder who used it at 7:30 pm on May 27. (possible video proof). Any cell phone pings while in West Jefferson?

It’s hard to be at bottom of steep drop off on 16 and using debit card at same time, but possible. Wondering if Ms. Fischer was still alive. She was reported missing Wed. Police started searching and cell phone stopped pinging on same day, Thurs. Could be a connection.

Regardless of how rational and reasonable we want to be “no foul play” rings hollow now. It was a narrow path off a deadly cliff; who would drive off there? What beautiful woman would drive off deliberately (was identified through dental records?) Seems more likely her car was pushed off. Yes I know LE says car was traveling 30 mph. Car could reach that speed pretty fast when in a virtual free fall.

I think LE is playing it close to the vest; releasing little information. Family may want it that way.

Leland, thank you for the Google Earth picture. Very telling.

Wpg, thank you for the video, pictures and Google street view. Very powerful.

  28. Inda says:

Just a tidbit from the wanted poster:

I hadn’t read this before. Officials said the phone company thinks a text was sent or received
from her phone but they don’t know who was using it.

  29. tiberious says:

Blink, any new gut feelings about what went on here. Do you think they have video of whomever used the card and as you said, debit or credit with regards to cash back or not.

Since it appears that someone, would it be LE or family’s own investigators, is looking into her activity for that day mean that they are not 100% sure of what went on here?

Any traffic cameras that would have picked up on her traveling in her vehicle or if she was alone when left McDonalds (or can tell if being followed by someone)?

Would they be looking on camera footage from McDonalds inside and out to see if they noticed anybody (like her husband)familiar to her life were there at the same time as her?

tiberious I am under the initial impression that this investigation is ongoing.

I am hopeful that the fact that the family has been virtually silent although it is clear that the release of the debit card usage on Thursday and the ping issue should cause great concern. I read that as they are confident so far in the investigative process.

My thoughts on this remain the same, and that is it will be concluded as an intentional act or foul play was involved. As we know the mp report was filed Wed, so we can presume many, many calls and texts were placed to Holly’s cell, causing it to ping if it were powered on. The pings are not matching the card usage apparently so that will require some intense scrutiny.

One word of caution of the ATM/credit card usage on Thursday- it has to be determined if the merchant uses real time processing or batch processing based on their merchant agreement. It is technically possible to show it’s “posting” time v when it was actually ran for a transaction- I presume LE knows to check this with the credit card issuer.

This is a forensic analyst case, and if investigated properly, should net the answers we are all seeking on behalf of this very lovely lady.

Rose, I read somewhere and will get the link later, that the husband felt the divorce was amicable, but that he understood she was upset by it, though she was happy for his move to Cali.

I am hearing that everyone is quiet, and everyone is confused as Hell.

I am not aware of people becoming very upset when a divorce is amicable, lol. It may be amicable at times, but I think it is a safe assumption that if Holly was upset over it as described by her parents, that day at least, it would not have been appropriate to describe it as “amicable.”

I don’t want to get into the tabloid-esque aspects of this, I included FB links in my piece so y’all know what went down and can make assorted assumptions how one would feel in Holly’s situation. I am not going to have anything positive to say about Mr. Girit whether he was involved in some manner or not. I value integrity. Clearly he does not.

How did LE determine the speed of the vehicle to be 30mph? Free fall down a cliff 800 feet high would create much more speed than 30mph.

If the speed is based on crash data recovered from the car, the only way that data is created is by a sensor that monitors the rotation of the drive shaft. That speed is dependent upon the tires and wheels being the same size as the original equipment. If wheels are larger or smaller than original equipment, the program that captures the speed data will not be accurate. Basic geometry tells us that a point on a circle of a 16″ diameter will travel farther than a point on a circle of 14″ when rotation is the same speed.

Thanks for the photo link in your #2 post above. The trees and brush in those photos are very dense. The slope is approaching 60 degrees.

The slope at the South side of my property down to the creek is a little less, but has far less trees and and brush. This scene does not add up to me unless the vehicle speed was faster than 30mph. We could see the mark on the ground at the top of the slope which indicates that the speed was low. No indications on the surface that brakes were applied.

These photos make me question a suicide even more. The description of the damage to the car does not match the terrain. We don’t know how far down the slope the car or the body were found. I am going to find the location on google and do some slope distance and grade analysis.

  43. Leland says:

Speed is determined by observing the position of the landing point, horizontally and vertically from the takeoff point. Simple physics calculations can analyze the curve and determine the speed. Evil Knievel knows how to do this well. Factor in an estimate of the resistance of the trees it hits on the way down and bingo, you have it. I wouldn’t doubt their estimate of the speed.

That is mostly right, but the landing point is dictated by the points the car hits the cliff first as it is not a straight drop so the landing or final resting spot is dictated by the crash trajectories on the way down. The damage to the vehicle at the points of various impacts are a factor. They are also a factor as they relate to how the victim was thrown, and COD.

Wilbar Fire Chief Rick Jennings said a man on a motorcycle stopped by the Wilbar Fire Station on N.C. 16 at the bottom of the Blue Ridge escarpment earlier Sunday and told firefighters where, based on broken tree limbs, a car apparently went off N.C. 16. The man said he was helping the Fischer family search the area that day.

Jennings said Wilbar firefighters Justin Caudill, Travis Hodges and Robbie Bledsoe rappelled down from that point, saw a wrecked silver car and returned without reaching the car. Bledsoe found a grill from an Infiniti.

    (snip)

After Jennings reported this to the Wilkes Communications Center, personnel from the Wilkes and Ashe sheriff’s departments, Wilkes Rescue Squad, Wilbar Fire Department and N.C. Highway Patrol gathered in the parking lot of the former Moonshine Inn.

Shawn Staley, captain of the Wilkes Rescue Squad, and squad members Justin Brooks, Chris Dancy and Barry Nelson then tried to rappel to the wrecked car from the point along N.C. 16, leaving shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday. When they returned to the top about 12:45 a.m. Monday, Staley said they went about 200 feet down and decided it was too risky to continue at night due to the terrain, broken glass and other debris.

Authorities said Ms. Fischer’s credit card was used to buy gas in Newport, Tenn., on May 27.

The last time a signal from her cell phone was detected was about 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

    ________

    ATG,

These snips may be of interest to you in your calculations. The cliff height has been reported to be 1200 feet. :

    (snip)

Authorities said the wrecked car and body were found about 800 to 1,000 feet directly below a point on N.C. 16 that is about 150 feet north of the former Moonshine Inn tavern and a few hundred feet south of the Jumping Off Place cliffs along N.C. 16.

    (snip)

Wilkes Sheriff’s Department officers, a State Bureau of Investigation agent, Wilbar Fire Department first responders and Wilkes Rescue Squad members reached the car on foot from Misty Jump Lane and Timber Ridge Lane, which intersect with N.C. 16 and Old N.C. 16 respectively in the Wilbar community.

A high school physics student could figure it out fairly easily if he knows the point it left the road and the point of first impact. You will have a range of speed as something shaped like a car is going to have wind resistance, but they should be able to get it to within a few miles an hour.

“After turning north on I-77, Fischer’s cell turned north on U.S. 421 and heading back towards the mountains.

The last “ping” was detected near Wilkesboro, about 20 minutes from her parents’ mountain home in West Jefferson.

That is where Ajello said she and friends started their search of nearby roads on Sunday.

People met at the McDonald’s on U.S. 421 at Hwy. 16 at 9:30 Sunday morning.”

    ________

    Well that article is confusing.

Regarding the last ping, “about 20 minutes” from Mountain Aire Golf Course (the West Jefferson condo) is “the curve” at the closed down Moonshine Inn Tavern:

    A) Mountain Aire Golf Course, 1104 Golf Course Road, West Jefferson, NC
    B) 15945 N Carolina 16, Millers Creek, NC 28651, United States

    http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Mountain+Aire+Golf+Course,+1104+Golf+Course+Road,+West+Jefferson,+NC+28694&daddr=15945+N+Carolina+16,+Millers+Creek,+NC+28651,+United+States&hl=en&sll=36.317338,-81.423454&sspn=0.206367,0.295601&geocode=FfgdKwIdV-8j-ykP28jru1RQiDEyr8s7t4sflA%3BFXYcKgIdFpkm-yn5B0EmFKhRiDHGHOsG6kjlcg&oq=15945+N+Carolina+16+Millers+Creek,+NC+28651&mra=ps&t=m&z=12

And just to confuse things a little more, along that same 20-22 minute route is a McDonald’s in West Jefferson only 8 minutes away from the condo area at HWY 16 and HWY 221 (as opposed to HWY 421 reported in the article):

    A) Mountain Aire Golf Course, 1104 Golf Course Road, West Jefferson, NC
    B) McDonald’s, 11 Ashemont Dr, West Jefferson, NC, United States
    C) 15945 N Carolina 16, Millers Creek, NC 28651, United States
