Missing Utah Woman Susan Powell: What Does Husband Josh Know?

Susan Powell

Salt Lake City, UT– The last person to see mother of two and stockbroker Susan Powell, 28, is her husband Josh.

MichaelPowellThat may be the extent of the information Mr. Powell is willing to provide the West Valley Police Department to asisst in their efforts to locate his wife; missing since the evening of December 6, 2009. Josh Powell is a relative of Michael C Powell, who ran for the State Legislature in Washington. Josh is listed as his technical advisor and creator of his website. Calls to Mr. Powell’s office to determine if Josh is his brother have not been returned.

After skipping out on a planned Interview with police on December 16, 2009 and hiring Salt Lake City criminal defense attorney Scott Williams: Josh Powell refuses to speak to LE about anything having to do with the disappearance of his wife outside of his already vague statements.

If your thinking everything you need to know is in the above interview, I agree.

Powell told police he took an impromptu camping trip with the couple’s 2 children at approximately 12:30am December 6th, leaving his wife home asleep.

When Josh returned to the family home at 6245 Sarah Circle on Monday evening December 7th, he learned that family members, coworkers, and the childrens daycare providers surmised the entire family was missing and called police.

Josh was reached approximately 2 hours prior to his return by a neighbor and friend of Susan’s, Tim Peterson. Peterson described Josh’s behavior as odd and unconcerned about Susan’s whereabouts.

Tim Peterson also noted that Josh Powell had the worst case of wind burn he had ever seen and severely red hands that he applied lotion to incessantly. Powell told him he took the boys to a remote part of Tooele County to test a new generator.

Police were called by Josh’s Mother amidst concern about the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.  Deputies broke a window in the Powell home to gain access and check on the families well being.

What they found, was a very large, wet area of a downstairs rug with 2 fans blowing on high, Susan’s purse, cell phone and keys.

Mr. Powell asserted he had no idea what happened to his wife, and the nightmare for both the Cox and Powell families, began.

According to to Police Captain Tom Mclachlan, Investigators took a sample of Josh Powell’s DNA via a sealed warrant on Tuesday December 16th, as well as other un-named individuals.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source inside the investigation has confirmed to blinkoncrime.com that there has been blood evidence located inside the home, and DNA profile anaysis is currently underway to determine it’s source.

Post Pancakes Pup Tent

Seemingly unaffected by the fact that he had to work in a few short hours, the children had preschool and it WAS 25 DEGREES BELOW ZERO, Josh Powell, according to him, felt this was a perfect male bonding opportunity with his boys. Per his statement, he traveled to a campsite in the Pony Express Trail Area, where the three of them slept in the family van.

Mr. Powell is a person of inerest in this case. From what I have seen, he is also, among other things, a dumbass.

With that in mind, I present the following working theory in the hopes it might progress this case and locate Susan Powell. Sadly, I am of the opinion that Susan Powell has met her end at the hands of her husband.

I do not think it will take as long, but I believe he will join the mothermurderers gang with recent inductees Jason Young, Brad Cooper and Christopher Coleman.

Initial Crime Scene

An Unknown Event, Resulting in Susan’s death, occurs at the marital residence. It appears to be spontaneous and unplanned due to the evidence found inside the home and the post offense behavior by the subject. A very large and wet area of carpet is located inside the home with drying devices intentionally focused on the area. It is implied there was an attempt to clean up the initial crime scene.

Secondary Crime Scene

The following are presumptive profile factors based on the limited amount of information in this case:

The subject is a non-organized offendor with limited crime scene and overall forensic investigative techniques.

The subject is operating a mini-van with 2 small children inside, presumably sleeping, containing either on, or inside, a concealment item of some kind.

While it was bitterly cold the early morning hours of December 7th, it was not snowing.  The ground was frozen and snow covered, however.

According to Tim Peterson, Powell told him he went to the remote Tooele County area. Following the fact that I can be sure, the one area that is nowhere close to water in that region is the one place he says he was; I can safely say I do not buy for a second he was anywhere near there.

Saratoga1In fact, I do not think he went very far at all. The critical piece here, is the generator he alleges he went to try out.

Two small children in a van, at that temperature basically means the vehicle needs to be running at all times or have an alternative heat source. Either way, they are running out of gas in hours or less, if it is to be believed he traveled as far as he did. That said, I am of the opinion the subject needed an immediate option.

Water.

With 2 children in a running vehicle, he would need to retain visualSaratoga2 contact.

He would need to have access to or know where he could gain access to, a boat. Potentially, he would seek a launch or marina where there were hotsprings feeding into the lake. He would know it was not frozen, and he would prefer it over the altervative in that weather.

Saratoga3Utah Lake water depth is an average of 9’. It ranges from 8’-14’, but it is notoriously murky, with a limited number of launches that have extremely easy access.

As you can see, easy access to launch as well.

LindonMarinaPavedTrailLinden Marina , which has a new trail, is also very close.

Today, Susan Powell’s family and friends began a social networking blitz in an attempt to generate leads in her case.

Hopefully, someone can confirm whether or not the “generator” is a marina version, or other.

Seriously, does anyone think this guy capable of excavating a grave in frozen ground?

I watched just a couple of minutes of the video with the sound turned off. Everything about his body language and facial expressions said “I’m a lying sack o’ something stinky – arrest me now.”

Dear Susan, I’m so sorry it came to this for you.

  2. CVT76702 says:

    Psychic
Shortly after I heard about this case I began meditating on it as a psychic and I would like to say the writer of this article has done a great job profiling this case.
What I saw immediately as I meditated on the case is susan back across the bed fighting violently with her killer.
The killer then strips the coverlet off the bed and wrapps susan in it to dispose of her.
I see the coverlet as having tiny flowers on it and the bed has white sheets and brown blankets as I see it in the psychic message.
I believe the husband killed her, wrapped her in the coverelet from the bed and put her in the van and awakened the sleeping children and told them they were going camping and I believe the husband dumped the body and later rented the car and went back to better dispose of the body.

As we know in one news story a friend said that the Husband told him he had to shop for clothes and a new comforter for the bed and that is because he took the original comforter to wrap the dead body of his wife in.

This was not a premeditated murder but the fight began and she was threatening to leave him again and he cracked and killed her and now I believe he has decided to clam up for the sake of the children.

He is however suffering as most killers do because he loved his wife and didn’t want her to leave him.
This is a Replay of the scott Peterson case.

  3. sherlock says:

As to the “windburn”. It will be important to know whether both his face and hand were red, or just his hands. A roaring campfire will not do this, unless you’re setting your clothes on fire as well!!

If just his hands were red, then it’s likely this is from frostbite from the frigid water of the lake as he worked to submerge a body.
Although his face could certainly have gotten frostbitten as well, if he indeed was AWAY FROM A HEAT SOURCE for a substantial amount of time. Meaning he was not in the van, or near a fire long enough to get severe frostbite.
Blinkers from Minnesota or North Dakota, etc. you guys know cold!!
How long would it take in -25 degree temps to get frostbite on your face? 20 – 30 minutes tops?

I’m with Blink totally on this one – he dumped dear Susan in a body of water. No way could you bury someone in that frozen ground. He had to get rid of her fast.
I pray to God his children saw or heard nothing. :-(

The rug is interesting. There is a chemical the police use (anyone know the name???) that shows up blood spatters in ultraviolet light.
From what I’ve read, even bleach will not totally erase every trace.
But as someone said the volume may be the issue. However, if he needed fans to dry the rug, we can assume it was a fairly large spot, thus likely eliminating the “Susan had a nosebleed 2 months ago” explanation.
I agree that the rug stain does strongly suggest this was an unplanned event. Could this dweeb even plan anything? However, there is the issue of the “poison pancakes” which would of course show pre-meditation. If so, the idiot couldn’t even do that right (sorry I don’t mean to be crass here). Finding her body soon is vital to test her stomach for any toxic substance.
Blink, any ideas on cause of death??
I’m guessing blunt instrument to the head, i.e. one main blood stain. A knife is unlikely here. A gun is possible, but someone would have heard the shot, no?

If I were LE, I’d be looking at any history of boating, owning a boat, fishing or ID’s at any of the nearby marinas related to Josh.
Was he familiar with those lakes and springs?

LE needs to be thorough, but move quickly before he jumps to Canada.

Final positive thought – wouldn’t it be great if Josh were caught due to diligent web bloggers spotting him and notifying LE?? If the Utah LE can’t have eyes and ears in WA state, the internet can!

I agree on the potential for frostbite on the hands being due to water exposure. I do not believe the children were physically examined upon return, but I would be very interested if their clothing was recovered from that weekend or if Josh discarded it and purchased new. I suspect the little guy may have had some diaper rash because his dad’s hands were not functioning well enough for him to change his diaper. Or I would ask the older child if he was asked to change his brother.

Your entirely correct on the time is of the essence. I am more concerned about him having the two small children with him than I am about him skipping the border though. People with nothing left to lose are dangerous.

The above #52 sounds like it is probably pretty close to what happened. But, I think anyone could present that story without having to meditate on it.

I’m sure this was not a “premeditated” murder, as nobody would come up with such a stupid story if they had actually planned it out.

But, I have to say: Scott Peterson DID NOT love his wife. He murdered his wife AND his child because they were no longer useful to him, and he wanted to be “free” of them and be with other women. Scott Peterson thought nothing of what he did, and has no remorse. The only thing he is upset about is that he was caught and put away –no longer free to do as he wishes. I think it is insulting to the memory of Lacey Peterson, her unborn child that she so anxiously awaited the arrival of, and her family to say that Scott Peterson loved her. It is not true.

I’m sorry, this just bothered me. I don’t mean to be a jerk.

Lol, I guess you caught me letting that go so another might take a crack at it.

I do not believe in psychics and their ability to contribute to missing persons cases in general. Sometimes I let that stuff through to view it for what it is.

  5. martha says:

Except, these people are pyschopaths and are incapable to true feelings–they can only mimic. Drew Peterson, Scott Peterson, Casey Anthony etc do not love anyone but themselves, I think. I very much believe that people can be pyschic. I have met several and not everyone is a fake. It must be a heavy burden to carry.

  6. mjh says:

    Sherlock –

I love reading your posts. Hands in the cold water seems very likely.

I believe the chemical they use is luminol.

Blink, I am also very worried about the children, and I think they should get them away from him ASAP. There is no telling what he may do at this point.

That is correct and thank you for addressing, I did forget to. It is important to note that although luminol does in fact react with an ALS (alternative light source or black light), substances with bluing enzymes, like carpet cleaner and some detergents, will as well. A steam cleaner which appeared to be used recently was found in the home.

  7. Buck says:

You say it was “25 DEGREES BELOW ZERO” the night in question. That isn’t even close. I live in the same zip (UT) and the all-time record coldest Dec. 6th ever was 9 degrees in 1992.

Buck, I agree there is some discrepancy on the temps, however, it was between 10 and 15 degrees, with wind gusts from 15-18 mph. Let’s agree the windchill factor and location “on the water” puts us in the zip code. The point really is it is inappropriate to take toddlers on a camping trip in the middle of the night in such conditions and the subject had obvious signs of exposure due to the conditions. That said, it was a fair question.

You can review the data here:

  8. martha says:

Sherlock–very good comments above. Especially about checking out the children–diaper rash and buying new clothes etc.

  9. mjh says:

    Blink –

I am aware of your opinion on psychic’s and their ability to help in missing persons cases. And, although I agree with you to a point, I do have to say, I DO believe there are some people who truly have a gift. Few and far between. But, they are out there.

If one of my children/family members were “missing”, I believe I would seek out a psychic. But, it would have to be someone I felt was legitimate and felt could possibly help.

The problem is, there are too many fakes who insert themselves into tragedies and take advantage of families who are suffering.

I, personally, do not mind people who have psychic visions or clues weighing in on these crimes/cases. I actually find it very interesting, and believe, in some cases, it could be helpful.

But when someone bases their psychic visions on facts that we all already have — well….

Also, the story seems close to what happened. But, obviously, the giant wet spot that needed 2 fans running to try to dry it is where the assault took place — not in the bedroom. (Although, I guess it could have started in the bedroom). But, I do believe she was possibly wrapped in the comforter after the fact.

I guess what I am saying is, this whole case was pretty obvious from the beginning.

My greatest fear is that the children may have actually witnessed this. I truly hope they did not.

    Fair.
To add: I feel so strongly about the possibility of a vulnerable family being taken for a ride by a “psychic”, among other reasons, that I absolutely believe it is in everyone’s best interests to discredit them.

Take for example, contract law. There are specific caveats for protection in what could be a monumentous loss, resulting in catastrophic consequences to someone if said contract is entered into “Under Duress.” If that were the case, the agreement would most likely be nullified, and protects the signor.

I feel the family of a missing person is “Walking Duress” and therefore unable to differentiate between “good psychics” and “bad psychics” and should be protected.

Sherlock–very good comments above. Especially about checking out the children–diaper rash and buying new clothes etc.
    **********************
Dear Martha, thanks for the compliment but the diaper rash comments were from Blink (she forgot to BOLD the type). I’m a guy, I would never think about diapers!! :-)

Luminol !! Yes thanks mjh. Question – even though the carpet piece would fool the Luminol test due to cleaners – there may still be specks of blood within the fibers that WOULD still test as DNA material, right? Luminol’s value in cases is that it shows LE places where blood is not obvious or visible. Here, we have an obvious spot with likely blood residue. So I assume there are other chemical tests to see if there is blood present, and/or get a DNA sample from.
But I may be wrong on that.

Also, it may just be my crime intuition, but I’ll bet you the rug stain is not the only evidence scene in that house. At least 1 or 2 more if blood was involved, clean up and disposal of weapon.

The van and/or car is of course major here too. Fibers, Susan’s hairs, etc. What’s the dates of rental of that car? Anyone? When was it returned and where is it now?

And helpful hint #36 for Utah police – Talk to the friend who was there for “pancake dinner”. What did she see, when did she leave?

  11. Buck says:

It was cold that night. I certainly didn’t venture out from my warm bed after midnight for smores, however, 10-15 degrees is still a far cry from “25 DEGREES BELOW ZERO”. [In fact its 35-40 degrees different!] Please, let’s don’t misrepresent facts. I’ve worked outside at -25 (and at -30) in the oil field and believe me -25 is WAY different than 10-15.

You missed the point again, I gave you reference links so you can see it is very close to that if you factor in temp, location, windchill and gusts. You came on here about a story of a missing and assumed murdered woman to discredit the temperature, and then when I provide the vehicle for you to check out my facts, you pop back in to argue without so much as acknowledging I backed up what I was saying. You just want to be right?

What are your thoughts on what happened to Susan Powell, have you any contribution to that discussion?

    B

  12. mjh says:

    Sherlock –

I am not an expert by any means, but I believe if there is a spot that big on the carpet, it would also sink into the floorboards. It is also likely that he hit her with something (blunt force trauma)which would also cause blood spatter on the walls and surrounding areas. (This would be my guess). Of course, he could have used a gun (which would also cause blood spatter) or a knife.

But, in any case, it would seem to me that there would be plenty of blood evidence to test. Also, as Blink mentioned, the steam-cleaner. If he used the steam cleaner (and I’m sure he did), there would also be evidence contained within it. Even if he emptied the water out, there would still be traces of blood, I am sure.

In reference to the diaper rash comments (very good ones, by the way Blink) — “I’m a guy, I would never think about diapers”…made me laugh.

  13. Buck says:

I did check out the link you provided, thank you. It was the same website I relied on for reference when citing the record low temp for Dec. 6th in the SLC, UT area (which is no where near “25 DEGREES BELOW ZERO”).

I think something bad happened to Susan which pains my heart. I pray for her. There are so few known facts regarding her disappearance everything else is purely conjecture. Therefore, when so few facts are known I think it would give you more credibility if you wouldn’t exaggerate or misrepresent something which is not subjective.

    Thanks for providing the forum.

Your welcome, but there is alot more data on the site I referenced, that puts the temperature and conditions , which are always subjective unless your standing in them real time. Let’s agree it was below freezing all things considered. I also used Provo, not SLC, because we are discussing where he allegedly went “camping” not your home zip.

Woman who was there for pancake dinner was interviewed by news and she had only positive thoughts about Josh and his actions. He took the children sleding when Susan went to ly down. The woman stayed until perhaps until 6 or 6:30 working with the yarn. She was there to teach Susan about crocheting. A older gal.

  16. new says:

I believe the spot on the rug was vomit. I think poison was involved, because she felt ill after eating. But then again it takes three hours or more for food to digest in the stomach. His face and hands where both red per neighbor. Car alarm went of at 11:45pm neighbor heard it. If you heat the ground with a fire you can dig in it, but have a sense that Blinks suggestion of water is the most likely place he disposed of her.

  17. new says:

The four year old said the Family went camping. Did Mommy have to stay in the woods?

  18. new says:

I am sure the children slept in the van and perhaps explaination of Mommy sleeping in the rear bed of the van was given. But how do you keep these children warm in a car for that lenght of time. Would you have to keep the car running all this time? Was another person involved? Did hE have to buy gas somewhere? Did any one hear about him testing out a new generator?

  19. Buck says:

Sorry for being so fixated with such a small detail but I think cases are built (and won or lost) on a series of small, irrefutable details.

Temperature is never subjective (perspective, particular feelings, beliefs, and desires). Temperature is always measurable.

You are correct. It was below freezing. It was not below zero.

We don’t know where he went “camping”. He said he went to Simpson Springs. Mapquest lists Simpson Springs as 107 miles from Provo and also 107 miles from SLC.

(sigh) I aquiesse in certain cases it can be paramount. Not this one. I am aware of where he said he went, I suspect he went there the day he rented the car and peppered some trash or personal belongings up there for someone to find to prove he was there. Where, consequently, they will NOT find Susan.

LE will be able to tell within reason where he was based on gas stations, possible ATM or debit card use, tolls, traffic cams.
I am guessing by his statement where he says they were to be making smores the following morning, the way he said that makes me think he purchased those items the next day, and with awake and alert kids to recount the experience.

Again, why I believe she is in water and closer than what he states.
    B

  20. mjh says:

Blink #59 — I do understand and respect your position on this.

New #64 — The spot could very well be vomit, however, having raised 4 children and 2 dogs, I feel that vomit could be cleaned up rather quickly and easily, without leaving a spot so wet that it needs 2 fans running to dry it (after it has been steam cleaned). My steam cleaner draws the water back in, so it usually does not take long at all for my carpets to dry (without fans). But, that’s just me. I’m sure it is possible, since a (neighbor?) said she was ill after eating pancakes.

Also, he may have been trying to poison her initially, which would be premeditated. But, it seems that what eventually happened was a heat of the moment type of situation.

Buck: The point is, it was too cold to take two little ones “camping” after midnight on a shool/work night. His story does not make sense. My family and I go camping all the time, however, we never leave “spur of the moment” after midnight, in the freezing cold on a school night. And, that would include 10-15 degrees.

  21. Buck says:

No, the husband’s story does not make any rational sense whatsoever from beginning (12:30am) to end (Mon. pm) which strongly supports the theory that whatever he did, he was unprepared for.

I’m surprised that he apparently didn’t leave behind much evidence (no arrest). I know testing takes time but surely the case grows colder with each passing day. I fear local LE may have done an inadequate job so far.

Well I have to agree that not having him under surveillance does not sit well with me.

As to the chapped hands, I am thinking wet hands and extremely cold air. If Blink is correct in her thinking that he dumped her in Utah Lake his hands probably got wet while driving the boat. I am a past boat owner and everything gets wet when you drive fast especially if it was windy and the water was rough. Anyone know what the wind speeds were for that area during this? We already know that it was unbarably cold. (not camping weather by any means) was it also windy?
Also possibly from trying to dig in the snow. Wet and cold will certainly cause chapping. Dont know about bonfires doing that.

  25. karen says:

I am not familiar with this part of Utah but I know that there are still some of Ted Bundy’s victims out there who have never been found. Debby Kent who disappeared from Bountiful Utah in 1974 has never been found. Julie Cunningham (she was from Colorado) also was never found. There are some pretty remote areas out that way and the terrain in unfriendly in many places making searching hard if not impossible. I hope sincerely for a better outcome for Susan.

  29. karen says:

Ah the carpet. My area of expertise. You can steam clean a carpet but you NEVER get everything out of the cushion. I sell a special pad for carpet that has a moisture barrier which prevents what I call ghost stains. You know, when you have stanley steamer in and the carpet looks clean, then looky there that same stain has reappeared. It is because the cause of the stain is in the pad. A steam cleaner will not pull a stain out of the pad. Unless they also had this special pad which prevents spills from getting into the pad in the first place. If they pull up the carpet their evidence will still be there.

Per her neighbor Susan wanted Josh to rejoin the Church actively. Had threaten to leave Josh by the end of the year if he refused. She had put aside money in a seperate bank account for just the purpose of leaving him. Per friend Susan had stated that if she was ever to be found dead she wanted let her children know she didn’t commit suicide. Me thinks that was a pretty rocky marriage. They say she was spunky but I think she also feared Josh and what he might do. Got this info from news articles. So don’t know how acurate reporters where.

Well I live in WA…just 15 minutes from were Josh Powell is staying now..there is no news here about him at all…I think this is is mental and then some…he always refers to his children as “MINE” or “my”, never in any interview have I heard him use the word “OUR”.

I also found it most interesting that from the very first interview this guy gave…his walkway has been shoveled to remove the snow….but leading up to the front door, the driveway, and the walkway in the front of the house…so when did he shovel the snow away? When was the last snow fall? Was this shoveling because he had to drag out a body and he could not leave any marks in the snow…hummmmm…Why didn’t he go to church on Sunday? How does anyone that works forget when Monday morning is here?

Is his IQ below 70…or is it that he thinks we all are under 70 IQ?

I would love to start something for Susan here in WA..but just don’t know what to do..It is MHO that this man needs to have his children removed from his custody right now…he doesn’t seem to have the childrens best care in view…or he would not of taken two small children out on a freezing night….no mommy in her right mind would of let him take these kids out on a camping trip at that time of night..this is just such BS…What is he telling these little babies, who by now have been asking on a regular basis they miss their mommy???

Another curiosity that has come to light is that Josh rented a car two days after his wife came up missing. It was just for a 24 hour period. The West Valley police have confiscated his minivan to inspect it. Not too odd really, that he rents a car.

Yet Josh put several hundred miles on the rented car. Investigators have no clue where he went. West Valley police Capt. Tom McLachlan has indicated also that no GPS tracking was on the rented vehicle. I would think that he had to have gone out of town in order to put that many miles on the car. Maybe Josh was re-hiding the body, as many commentators have suggested?
    *************************************

Several hundred miles?? Where were the children during this time?
Oh, the stories that rental car could tell. Do a map search for West Valley City, Utah and you’ll see that it’s near the Salt Lake (south of) and that west of that city, there’s almost nothing but desert and state parks all the way to the state line.
If the body was put into water, as Blink believes, then he obviously wasn’t re-hiding the body somewhere. Why did he drive so far? Destroying other evidence perhaps?

According to True Crime Report – Friends of Susan are saying that Josh was a very controlling person in the marriage.

    http://www.truecrimereport.com/2009/12/stockbroker_susan_powell_missi.php

A controlling personality will most certainly be a factor in how he deals with “spinning” his story and alibi, as well as how he hides the evidence.

For those familiar with true crime stories, I am reminded of
John List anyone remember him, back in the 70′s I think?? Killed his whole family and walked away leaving them in the house (his mother, wife and two kids). Went and picked up his 8 year old kid from school, walked into the kitchen and shot him point blank. How cold is that? He was also a very controlling person. Assumed another identity and was only found 15-20 years later. He also had severe financial problems before the murders.

One more thing, I’m thinking maybe the stain on the living room rug is NOT where she was killed, only that her body was placed there for a short while. I’m betting the murder took place somewhere else in the house. Blink?

And, I’m doubting the poison pancakes too. He would have had to have made a separate batch, in a separate bowl, just for Susan. Or sprinkled some chemical toxin on her pancakes before serving. The kitchen is not a private room, tough to hide the act of doing this,
I think from wife and the friend. Plus, I just don’t think this guy has the brains to do the research necessary to find a tasteless poison that isn’t easily traced. You don’t just throw some De-Con rat killer on the plate and hope she doesn’t notice.
Also, in crime research, murder by poison is by far a more common MO of female killers than male (sorry ladies !!) Guys just almost never use poison, not in modern times anyway.

Is anyone else disgusted with Josh’s daddy, as I am?

At best he is an enabler. At worst he is harboring a murder.

  37. D says:

Josh: You can run, but you can’t hide. Biotch.

  38. Mayhem says:

Buck #86, yes. Josh’s dad is a whack job. Seems to have no love lost for his daughter in law or their church. Seems bitterness has been brewing for quite some time in that household.

Neighbor Peterson has come out to say that two days after Susan went missing, JP told him (in response to their questions about what he thought happened to Susan) “it’s not like I stabbed her or anything.” Really??? Talk about an inappropriate comment, if the neighbor is being truthful.

Some are speculating that Josh is headed to Washington with the kids so that the kids will be in his father’s custody when he confesses to the police. One can only hope. Although if this is the case, I feel for Susan’s parents.

  39. Buck says:

An unbelievable story is unbelievable for a reason. Example; read the following two descriptions of the exact same action (leaving in the middle of a cold night with 2 kids for 16 hours). One is plausible, one not.

    1. I went camping and to make smores because we do that all the time.
    2. I got fed up with my wife nagging me all night long about not going to church so I grabbed the kids and just blew out of there.

    Yep.
He is no smartie, unfortunately that is not a prerequisite.

I take everything I hear on Fox with a few grains of salt, but according to them, Josh is planning on selling the house. Hopefully it is so he can afford a lawyer when he confesses to killing his wife. This guy is ridiculous. He makes no sense and expects everyone to just accept his story.

Body found in Wendover Utah. No signs if it is Susan yet but thought I’d share anyway. Not sure where Wendover is in comparison to where they lived and where Josh “went cmaping”.

    Hispanic Male. Not Susan.

    Sherlock #85 –

Thank you for the information on the rental car.

You may be right about the stain not being where she was killed, and that her body was possibly placed there for a little while after she was killed.

The spot may also not be blood, but other bodily fluids? I guess it is possible that she was strangled. If women are more inclined to poison, what are men most apt to do?

Also, I would think that if he WAS trying to poison her, the poison would have been in the syrup (disguises the taste), not in the pancakes themselves.

In any case, the sooner they find her, the better chance we will know how she died. My apologies and heartfelt sympathy to Susan’s family.

  44. Debi says:

Well, Josh is here is Washington…hiding..not looking for his wife…I do not understand why DSH has not come into the picture here and removed these children from the home of his father? We just let these innocent babies live with any as_ hole today…Does he seem like a good father? Smores my butt…what was he cooking them over? The generator??? or the engine of the car? You gotta roast the marshmellows and heat up the chocolate, to have a smore…I can just see him telling these little babies, oh…mommy has gone away and left you while you slept in the back of the van for six hours..I dug a hole and put her in it….LE, go get him now!

  45. Momof3 says:

Unfortunately another family destroyed. How very sad.

Blink, I think your theory about a water disposal is very plausible.

Just wanted to point out something from personal experience….
When I was little and My dad would have to work outside for long periods of time in the cold, using his hands. It was not feasible for him to wear gloves, they were cumbersome. My Dad would not wear gloves. His hands would get very chapped because he would pour hot water on them continually in order to prevent frostbite and keep his hands and fingers nimble.

    Mom3-
Very Interesting, may I ask if your Dad had a profession that might sustain similar conditions?

Can I guess fisherman/ something aquatic in cold temps? I totally understand If too personal a question my friend.

  46. davidjohn says:

Maybe there is a way to track him by his mobile phone…not the calls he made, but by the phone to cell tower association.

This theory has been presented on the Morgan Harrington site.

Are there any mobile phone tech gurus on this site?

  47. Momof3 says:

My dad grew up on a farm in a state that was cold during the winter.
This is where he first learned the trick. He ice fished during the winter also. No he wasn’t a fisherman by trade. He was also always working on automobiles in the cold. I don’t want to say what his profession was, (thanks for understanding) but he traveled during all seasons.

I brought up my Dad’s trick because if a person did dispose of a body in water in cold temps, the only way to warm his hands up would be to use hot water. His hands would have already been wet from the conditions and if dunked in cold water his hands would be useless to him. It would have been quite easy for him to keep a pot of water/snow ready on the camp fire. Although, if it was 25 below I do not think this trick would work as well. Not sure….FWIW

Just wanted to point out that people should not try this as an easy cure for hands in cold weather, because it will hurt and give you major pricklies in your hands. Not to mention the aftermath of the chapped skin……

    Ty Mom3.
It is the dilema for sure.
