Caylee/Casey Anthony Case: Andrea Lyon “She Didn’t Kill HER KID”

New York NY– In what was to be the kick off of the promotion tour for the release of her new book, Andrea Lyon quips the flub of the year:

Andrea-lyon-laughing

 “..SHE DIDN’T KILL HER KID..”

Ms. Lyon.. That “KID” has a name. It is Caylee Marie Anthony.

Ms. Lyon appeared this morning on the Today Show this to promote her new book: Angel of Death Row: My Life as a Death Penalty Defense Lawyer and was interviewed by Today host Meredith Viera.

“The intense media scrutiny here has made it, as far as I can see, virtually impossible to get a fair trial,” Lyon told Meredith Vieira.< ?xml:namespace prefix ="" o />

She goes on to compare her clients case to that of the Salem Witch Trials.

“The fact that she’s been pilloried in the press … I would liken this, Meredith, to the Salem witch trials,” Lyon said. The attorney went on to describe the mass hysteria that inflamed Salem.

“..that the death penalty puts a lot of pressure on a defendant even when they haven’t commitLyon acknowledged ted a murder. “She didn’t kill her kid,” Lyon said of Anthony.

It is unclear from her statements if her reference was a clue, or tantamount to a confession from her client Casey Anthony as to how and who murdered her daughter, Caylee Anthony .

it would be nice to have at least 1 fact to go on, that 1 might make all the difference in many peoples minds, I wish and pray each time they appear on air and it just doesn’t come. I thought by watching Lee’s depo there would be something but again nothing, but I have to give Lee a lil bit of props, since the removal of the Caylle memorial take down he has been silent and I respect that. Maybe Lee will be the hero in the end of all of this…if i missed something since correct me please!

I’m sorry George but the only people who are victimizing the victim. Is you George! Your wife Cindy, and the defense attorneys.. Your family is only a victim of your family’s own doing.. Not the publics, Not the bloggers, Not the media.. You put your family under the microscope when you chose the path you took..Beleive me if you would of stood up and been the Grandfather that Caylee so deserved your life would of been so different under that microscope.. Sorry, It’s to late for me to have any type of sympathy for you or your family..

Please Blink don’t hold back on commenting.. This family has got to stop playing the poor me card. CAYLEE deserved so much more..

I truly do not have to, you guys have really covered it.

Good morning B-Town’s finest! Have you had a chance to view George’s video about being under the microscope? Why do I have a sneakin suspicion that Cindy was workin the camera? Talk about camera person gone wild…. What’s up with him and Holly Bristow? She seems to be his go to girl.

If you haven’t watched the video yet, it’s best not to view it while you’re “hi” or you might just see George looking like a big “virgina”. I kid, I kid. I can’t stop reading that letter I get the giggles everytime I read it. I think the prisoner might have inhaled some “chronoman liquid” before he wrote it.

  12. George’s Fox 35 interview: I believe he is begging, begging, Casey to just plea … WITHOUT pulling them into it. He doesn’t want their lives and cupability brought into the public arena. They are as “ill” as she is! He’s saying that before June 15th – July 16th, “There lives were normal”? Casey’s NOT WORKING, DOESN’T have a nanny, she WASN’T pregant, and SHE DIDN’T have a highschool diploma. George, at least wants to go on with their lives as if they are a normal family … and &&&& happens in lots of families! Well, that’s not happening, and he wants Casey to stop this for ‘Them’. Ie., family. A trial will not only bring out the DUCK TAPE, but their living with their grand-daughter being in danger in their own home all these years. MHO, they have learned NOTHING!!!!! 15. Boz says:

Debbie, the denial is unbeilavable. It’s been documented well that George and Cindy were on the brink (not blink) of divorce just before this happened. Cindy stayed in the marriage ONLY because she did not want to give George half the money for the house she paid for. If George thinks this was a “normal” family, he is deeply mistaken.

  16. Steadychick says:

Re: #162 — Debbie, I think you hit the nail on the head! I felt like George may have been sending some kind of message to Casey, especially with his repetition of the work “microscope”. Please Casey, don’t do this to us, your family, who care so much about you and are so supportive that we get ours ears pierced for you. Please Casey, we keep your secrets — please don’t reveal all of ours so that they will be out there, under a microscope.”

Now, now, let’s be fair about that revealing letter jailhouse letter about O-Town and Krunk’s fraternity. After all, Judge Strickland did give the defense until January (is it the 10th?) to reveal evidence that someone else committed the crime. They are operating under a tight deadline here. I was just expecting them to proffer the evidence in a formal hearing. :)

Feb 1, after the fraud trial, which imo, will plea.

  21. ada says:

Do you think that it was O-Town or Roy Kronk that put the heart shaped sticker over the duct tape on Caylee’s face?

Do you think George felt compelled to go “public” because you uncovered his dirty little online secret?

Yes, I do. Thus the “I wrote this at Thanksgiving” but I wanted until the deadline for discussions in the plea for the fraud trial.

  22. Boz says:

This Lyon: She says “killing is killing”. She thinks putting someone to death as humanely as possible is the same as raping and burying alive a 9 year-old child. I’m sorry, that is just plain old warped thinking IMO.

Does anyone know what kind of vehicle she drives? I’ll bet it’s an old VW bus. She’s stuck in the 60′s and can’t get out. I’ve said it before, she has the “Ox Bow Incident Syndrome.” I had it when I was young and dumb and full…….. but I’m way over it now.

  23. MJ says:

Gosh, I don’t know about GA being crafty enough to send Casey a message and would she even get to hear it ?

I think they are all just alike. They are completely oblivious to the real world. GA really thinks that his hip/suave appearance is worthy of public explanation? Ga really thinks that he knows facts that would alter the thousands of documented ones? GA really thinks that we care that he feels qualified to counsel others in crisis? Ga really thinks that he needs to explain godly gestures and also to pre toot his horn about the many he will endeavor to do?

He has had many months and countless opportunities to SHOW us his mojo, what we’ve gotten is lies, whining, hissy fits, and a rewriting of history.
I truly believe timing is everything. I truly believe that the spate of books that are being discussed have raised the hackle on the Anthony neck. That hackle is directly related to the money bone.
Probably we should all view this as a preview of their book, their first book that is.

    http://www.thehinkymeter.com/?p=946&cpage=5#comment-4824

I didn’t see the interview with George, but read the letter. I sympathize with his total loss of privacy. I feel for the other witnesses such as Roy Kronk, as well, for all of their personal issues or foibles released and discussed beyond the confines of elements crucial in the case. I think that the FLA sunshine law, likely enacted with good intention, can be very damaging.
That said, the Anthonys have courted certain members of the media, themselves. They have gone on national broadcast media to promote their nonprofit, and unfortunately, made themselves public figures in the process. I don’t give a rat’s ass about their tattoos, earrings or haircuts, etc. I haven’t commented on any of that minutiae prior to this comment. I have always said that it would be in their best interest to stay off of television and not make comments about the case. They didn’t do themselves or Casey any favors by their exposure, (unless one considers that their actions will be used in mitigation, and I believe that they will).
Every time they go on TV with softball interviews, or statements that contradict earlier statements (that usually go unchallenged), or make new ones that sound disingenuous, it only stirs the pot. This results in coverage by other media that will analyze the story beyond the limitations from the originating source. That they haven’t figured this out yet, fair or unfair, is beyond comprehension. If they are putting out a PR piece, it will always be covered, deconstructed, analyzed by media, and then bloggers will comment on it. ALWAYS. Maybe it isn’t right. And some people are cruel and ridiculous. The name calling is appalling at times. Further, I can’t understand people who protested at their house or sent them emails or called with threats, etc.
But again, if you go on TV with a marketing strategy, that will ALWAYS be followed by an avalanche of coverage by other media. It will not change. You can not change it. You can not control what is reported on, and you are, in essence, getting the ball rolling on negative coverage, yourselves, by doing this. Stop going on TV. Take time to grieve. Work against the FLA sunshine law. Go visit Casey. She is alone. Tell her that you love her. The defense lawyers can argue against the release of a video if it is inflammatory in any manner. Strickland is a fair judge.
I’m not being sarcastic here. You are encouraging some of your own pain. I hope that this note helps.
    And, to your statement:
“An opinion, article gets released, printed and that becomes gospel for a slight few.”
That is true George. A ’slight few’ will run with anything, on either side. But a lot of people will critically analyze things, and seek what is reasonable. Enough said.

Well said and I also posted this under the new article on it.

Blink, how will the fraud sentencing coincide with the murder plea/trial? Will it be deferred, or tied into the 1st degree murder result?

It will not coincide in any way. The outcome is separate and she will receive a sentence that has been negotiated ( provided Strickland excepts it) or within the limits of a first time offender. She is facing 13 felonies. The sentence from this trial will be a consideration in the murder trial outcome though.

I just thought of something. Who/whom is paying for AL air fare back and forth. I can see it costing at least $800 round trip, and then if she takes any of her students with her, who pays for them?
My point is if its the defense paying for it how can they afford this? Does Baez and Lyons also receive $5000 per appearance?

  29. Kleat says:

Blink, so was Casey trying to set up ‘Mr. Stupidhead’ (wasn’t that what she called Rico in IM to Amy)? Could this also go to premeditation, given the choice of t-shirt? If not premeditation, that could be one of the important issues for Casey to speak to in any plea bargain? Either it goes to premeditation, choice of that t-shirt to make a point in words, or it was an afterthought, maybe it was Rico who gave the t-shirt to Caylee so Casey set him up.

It’s strange that they don’t point to Ricardo now as they have done and continue to do with Jesse, Kronk, etc. Could this be the ‘last ditch effort’ they will pull, and then, only in recip. discovery when forced to do so? (if they put it out about Ricardo too soon, they might irk the judge because he’s giving them all this extra time to put up or back up, on the TES issue, he’s going to tell them off again about ‘showboating’ if they do a ‘Ricardo did it’ switcheroo).

Kronk doesn’t fit with Cindy and Annie’s idea that ‘Casey had to have had help’. Kronk was there to help Casey??? Right– but Ricardo, the ex-boyfriend, drug connections supposedly, known t-shirt and Caylee connection, possible originator of the t-shirt for Caylee, connection.

  30. FairWitness says:

Right you are Blink, Caylee IS enchanting, even though she no longer lives.

When is a defense strategy “far beyond the pale” anyway? It means an action that is regarded as outside the limits of acceptable behaviour, which is unacceptable or improper.

How does an attorney get away with disdainful, comtemptuous reference to a baby murder victim? Especially when that attorney is defending the child’s mother against charges of murdering her. What the hell is wrong with Meredith Viera? She just sat there and let this crass, crude, vulgar, unkempt, thoroughly unattractive shyster spew her venom. Why didn’t Viera come back at Lyon with a challenging question? You know, like doing her f**king job as an unbiased journalist should? Referring to Caylee in that manner begged for a question about Lyon’s disrespectful tactics and strategy. Did it not, or am I out of my mind?

To Dee, it makes me shed tears, too, knowing there are so-called legal professionals willing to use such despicable methods defending the murderer of helpless babies. Having to accept that such lowlifes exist in our “justice system” leaves me in a state of utter hopelessness. We can’t even obtain justice for a murdered baby without the child/victim being further debased. It’s tragic.

  31. Kleat says:

The girl can go through some money.

Casey went through $25,000 and when she ran out of $ she was forced to steal more $ from friends and family. You know, so she could repay the drug dealer. OK I will quit.

  35. Kleat says:

If Andrea Lyon wanted to make the public believe that her client is innocent and this is a case of a mother who did not kill her child, then she would say that– she would say she did not kill her baby or her child, even if she is reserving some ‘distance’ from the victim. She would want to convey to the public in that sentence, the client’s love for her child, not the ‘she didnt’ kill her kid’ slop. That’s what that sentence was… slop. Doesn’t help her client, doesn’t help the idea that someone else caused the death of this baby, or that an accident caused the baby’s death, because she is so flippant about the victim and the relationship ‘she’ had with her child aka ‘the kid’.

Lyon must be one to choose her play, her words carefully and with critical planning as a dp mitigator and defense lawyer for someone accused of murder, and maybe she has made a critical error in judgement on these ‘defense’ words which not only minimize the baby victim to ‘the kid’, but they illustrate too clearly, what this defense lawyer really thinks of the relationship between the accused and the victim, in this case, about a mother and her child, Caylee. Even without personalizing the baby by using her name, Lyon could have implied the love of ‘a mother for her child’, but she failed.

Could it be that Lyon wasn’t getting to her book fast enough in the Today interview? And she just ‘slopped’ out that impersonal and harmful to her client, sentence by rote.

Yes B, I concur. And if I were Casey and this were my attorney, I would be crying myself to sleep in my little cell every night wondering how in the world I ever let an Andrea Lyon continue to represent me. We never believe this case can get anymore emotionally bankrupt, but I believe through Andrea’s own words, it just did. If people didn’t despise Andrea before, they surely do now. I do wholeheartedly believe Andrea just signed, sealed and delivered Casey’s eventual fate with that last faux pas … and what a doozie it was. God help Casey if this is all Andrea is capable of … it keeps coming back to that ol’ adage, “Birds of a feather …” The fit may very well be hitting the shan shortly.

  38. Kleat says:

Blink, you could be right about the ‘No. 1 ‘ for Scott Bolin. All the more reason he digs in and continues his good work for the innocent children, there is no way in the world, that he would want to take the easy route and have ‘case closed on Casey’ if there were someone out there who really did the crime (as the Anthony’s are accusing investigators of doing). Others could fold under that, but he hasn’t and this whole world of ‘inhumanity’ that he deals with every working day, and probably every non-working hour, has to take its toll. He’s not going to take a quick look and ‘slam dunk’ Casey for an easy mark and leave a perp out there to do it again and again.

The Anthony’s have alienated everyone in the police, FBI that were helping Caylee and helping the family to find the truth. They must have felt that they had nothing to lose by their attacks and nothing to gain by keeping investigators on side.

    Yep.
    B
    ————–
Cindy was adamant that ‘no argument… go there Mr. Morgan…’ (Grinch scene take 2.) . Could Cindy turn the ‘Casey and I’ didn’t have an argument, into George and she had an argument? Maybe she could claim that she was yelling at George (he cheated, wasn’t home on Sunday, Father’s Day evening, right) on her cell phone and she was out in the yard or wherever she could be heard by neighbours. So there’s a second voice in the argument, the defense can still attack the witness for credibility, intent, bad memory of dates and circumstances, bad hearing. Maybe they can work Casey’s voice into it, as a background participant in that ‘argument’– she was angry with her father as is a repeated theme in this case.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the same letter WFTV mentions is from an “inmate” on their site I posted on the other link earlier. If it is, the “inmate” described him/herself as someone in prison “for life”, etc. I do not believe this is Casey (not her handwriting at all among other things), but I do believe it might very well be a “plant” by the defense from someone they possibly paid off. Either way, I thought it was a joke after reading it. I actually laughed so hard I cried that whoever wrote this actually wrote it to the judge and seemed to have this premonition that the judge (or anyone for that matter) would actually take their staged sophomoric story seriously. It is however, good for a few laughs here and there if you’ve had one of those days. Sad in another way however because IMO it makes an even bigger mockery out of this serious case than has already been witnessed so far. Gee guys … for awhile there, I was really starting to feel like us Blinkers had somewhat begun an indirect, online intervention for George … we failed didn’t we?

I had to pause while reading George’s “Under A Microscope” as I couldn’t even read it all the way through w/o starting to feel my blood boil. If God Himself were standing in front of the Anthony home demanding truth from those we know as the Ant’s, I still with every ounce of my being believe they would wholeheartedly deny the truth at the cost of Caylee Marie. Overwhelming despondency doesn’t even begin to cover it … but again, you can’t rationalize with an irrationalize person, likewise, you can’t apply logic to anything that is anything but logical. With great sadness, I rest my case.

It was Sal and Boz fault. They torqued me and I watched the video as opposed to just reading the letter. OMG.

been spending the last few moments with my level headed hubby on all of this, sadly he shed a tear, he says “why” why no support for this baby, he gets it he understands, he understands the frustration of us all and from me to you this is huge cause he just doesnt do this stuff, but his heart is heavy for this baby as is all of ours and he is angry and he knows maybe 1% of what we know…this is a sad day with more to come but in the end I have faith that justice will come for her in which ever way God see’s fit…

Handbook 2010 … thank you for that, dee … it was wonderful. I’m keeping a copy of it to go back to each time I feel like banging my head against the wall with this case … I think George and Cindy probably really need a copy of this … albeit to start their morning fire with most likely. I guess I really have a problem with people who are terminally incapable of looking inward and it’s obvious the Ant’s can’t … on that premise alone, maybe Blink’s right … maybe because of that reason only we should actually feel some kind of pity for them as I truly believe these people were hard-wired at some point in their lives to forever go down the path of personal destruction. The path of true innocence is one they apparently have never been familiar with although they had the beginning’s of that in the birth of Caylee Marie right under their noses and could’ve learned everything they needed to know through that little angel of theirs. For whatever reasons, Caylee’s true meaning in their lives has gone unwelcomed and untended to, however much she has completely changed all of ours. There is just something inherently wrong with that, but at least Caylee’s brightness (however short it was) wasn’t completely wasted. I know she has, in many indirect ways, changed my life forever and she will never be forgotten.

Dee, Blink and all my fellow Blinksters, I thank God for all of you nightly … may we all continue to carry out little Caylee Marie’s legacy and bring justice to a tiny soul who never deserved the fate she so sadly endured. And for you, George and Cindy … may God eventually open the pathway to your conscience. Peace to all of you in 2010 … love you guys

“Having to accept that such lowlifes exist in our “justice system” leaves me in a state of utter hopelessness.”

Why the word “justice system” IMO has never had any merit, Fair …. I prefer instead to refer to it as the “legal system” as that has always appeared to be more what it truly is. There is really nothing “just” about our system in many ways, as what’s considered truly “moral” often has nothing at all to do with real “law”. I know our country was initially founded on the Separation of Church and State and all that, but on some levels, it has just always felt really wrong. The very laws that bind us at times can also imprison us … it all depends on what side of the fence you’re on. Rules for me, rules for everybody else just doesn’t work, although many try to apply them that way. Example of morality vs law: Infidelity in marriage isn’t technically against the law, but it definitely destroys people (think Tiger here). Where’s the morality in that?

But getting back to my point, morality very seldom really seems to enter into the legal equation and I think that’s one of the biggest things wrong with it. That’s how Andrea Lyon and attorney’s like her can sleep at night … it’s not officially “illegal” … morally wrong, yes. But illegal, no. The Golden Rule though, regardless of individual religion though is “Do unto others …” right? It’s just really sad what we as humans feel can we do to each other without earthly consequence.

Sorry … of my soapbox now … back to my corner

One common thing that I read on several blogs is bloggers frustration that the defense team acts like they don’t care about Caylee. They don’t care abour Caylee! All they care about is the win (as brought up on this blog earlier). Caylee is a fly in their ointment, or should I say Caylee is the wet on the chalkboard preventing them from chalking up another tic mark in their win catagory. They do not care. They have no feelings for her. They are being “paid” (I use that term loosely) to get the murderer off in whatever means they can without going to jail themselves or being disbarred. We should all understand that, expect it, and not let it raise our blood pressure. Now George and Cindy are totally different. They have chosen to listen to people who could care less about Caylee. But then Cindy’s words “we could lose them both on this one” and George’s words “if I believe Caylee is dead then I have also lost Casey” (paraphrased from LE interview in July 08).
