Casey Anthony Murder Trial: Chief Defense Witness Bill Rodriguez Perjurs Himself- OUT HE GOES- .. Ashton Spits Out Spitz… Blink Discuss Live Tonight On Dana Pretzer Show (Podcast Added)

Orlando, FL-  The Ninth Circuit of Orange County is beginning to look like their own decay facility.

If your watching the murder trial of Casey Anthony, for the murder of her daughter Caylee as the defense is presenting their case in chief,  you are watching Jose Baez et al building their own THE BODY FARM, of defense witnesses, that is.

The Body farm

For those of you who wish to maintain your decorum and have been advised to remove sharp objects from your reach, I offer the Blink hilight reel.

Fly In The Ointment.. Or Chew Lugie

Dr. Timothy Huntington, who was the defense entymologist expert , swarmed in, stating that the flies and larvae were attracted to the contents of the trash bag.  In short, his opinion was the blowflies, known for their ability to smell “happy hour” within seconds, were nearly absent from the trunk, and that the ones found were attracted to whatever decomposing food products, or garbage, that were NOT present.

Yep,  I said NOT present.  Jeff Ashton opened the evidence of the soda can reflecting no chew spit, and the “salami” packaging which actually held a piece of paper disguised as a food item, apparently.

Dr. Huntington’s “pigs not in blankets” experiment, where he had someone kill pigs and stash them in the trunks of various cars to prove the rate and amount of blowflies present in contrast to those found in the trunk of the Pontiac Sunfire, forgot to duplicate conditions in anyway, specifically, double trash bags wrapped in a laundry bag.  Dr. Huntington was forced to admit he has zero relevant experience in this area.

Like a moth to the flame, State Attorney Jeff Ashton drew Huntington into his “web of truth”.  Huntington, for purposes of this piece, was not at all comfortable on the prosecutorial flypaper; he said it “rides up” after a while.

It is not known if  Dr. Huntington left any puparia in his seat when he was excused from the witness box.

From Founder To Flounder In Taphonomic Wikigate

William Rodriguez, Phd, the defense expert in taphonomy, or the study of decaying organisms over time through fossilization has an impressive resume.

founder-  one that founds or establishes

flounder (v)-  to make clumsy attempts to regain one’s balance.

The good Dr, under oath, claimed to be a co-founder of  infamous THE BODY FARM in open court.

Not according to THE BODY FARM, or it’s actual founder, Dr. Bill Bass.

Dr. Rodriguez was already a subject of contention, or possible contEMPTion,  for drastically altering the opinion and findings he reported, versus what he is now prepared to testify to, thus violating Judge Perry’s order for what is now going to be the third time.

However, it is a whole different animal to claim a co-founder status, than the actuality, which was a teaching assistant, and at times,  window washer.

Because the State of Florida believes Rodriguez’s change in testimony is in effect a discovery violation, Judge Perry has since reserved ruling on the infraction until the trial’s conclusion.

Wait till he hears this BOMBSHELL.

Immediately Prior to Publication Update:  Rodriguez is OUT.  Details To Follow

Shoddy Is As Shoddy Does

By far, one of the more painful witness cross-examinations to date,  Werner Spitz, MD, was like flying coach to Thailand seated next to a newborn with an ear infection,  that has run out of booze in the first hour.

Dr. Spitz’s obsession with his pocket-cranial saw for all occasions not withstanding,  his testimony under cross, following a celebrated 56 year forensic pathology career involving the Assasinations of  President JFK and Dr. Martin Luther King was an affront to the profession, period.

At one point, he referred to the autopsy conducted by Jan Garavaglia, of “Dr. G” fame, as “shoddy” because she did not remove the “cap” of the skull, and therefore could not see the brain; although little Caylee Anthony’s remains were completely skeletonized with no soft tissue whatsoever.

When Dr. Spitz told the jury that he believed that the reason the mandibular bone appeared almost in full articular placement was because the duct tape was placed “on the left side only” after the toddler was completely decomposed, jurors were observed actually smirking at the man.

He was unaware there were 3 separate strips of duct tape affixed, and overall seemed to defy most Medico Legal Investigation of Death protocol in unnatural death investigation ,  which sadly, he is actually the co-author of.

Career, Interrupted.

Definitely A Fortnight…. Yes For Sure… Maybe Not

Dr. Jane Bock, the defense botany expert, as I have covered exclusively previously, is a lovely woman and accomplished professor.

She was also the benefactor of  Jeff Ashton’s gentlemanly handling of her testimony during cross examination this afternoon.

Dr. Bock went from the sublime to the ridiculous in her assertion that Caylee could have completely skeletonized, and grown herself a “root wrap” via her Pooh blanket.  Mr. Ashton was kinder than I would have been, to his credit, and to my “note to self about humility”, because I have written about her prior case work and it would have been entirely relevant as an impeachment item.  That said, I will follow his lead.

With no personal disrespect intended whatsoever to these “experts”, professionally, you betcha,  I have to ask,  did Jose Baez pull these folks out of a matinee complete with the AARP discount for a COCOON screening?

How is it, these seemingly accomplished, highly educated forensic professionals with career paths the envy of many a grad student,  were willing to throw their credentials behind such ludicrous opinions that were completely unsubstantiated by findings or evidence,  simply to have their names associated with this case. Make no mistake, that is exactly what happened here.

Being an expert defense witness, real or perceived in this case, makes going into one’s twilight  a solid 401K extender.

And now from what I understand, in Dr. Rodriguez deposition that JA just took over the weekend, he states the remains were in the discovered location since mid to late June. JB no longer wants to use his own expert witness.

    He is such a tool.

    Rubyrose-

I am so fond of that descriptor, and I concur.

  4. NaNa says:

You are completely right about this “show”…it gets more ridiculous by the minute. Defense witnesses actually agree with the State. When Baez asks them a question which he thinks will produce an ‘ah ha’ moment, he witness gets confused and then contradicts the question asked (or, as Baez himself had to object to his own witness…they become non responsive to the question lol).

I thought the circus would be over this week so deliberation could start but now it looks like, compliments of Baez, another week or more to go. We now need Frye hearings, etc. More wasted time due to lack of complying with court orders.

If I wasnt laughing so hard I would go to sleep!

Love it!! Funny- when Dr. R said co-founder of body farm- I grabbed my copy of “Beyond the Body Farm” and Dr. R was mentioned on a few pages as a graduate student albeit “one of two of my best graduate students”, but a grad student non-the-less. I was like huh??? Guess I co-founded my grade school too. LOL Great article, as usual Ms. Blinky!!!!

This has been asked many times, Blink, but please, after the past few days, I need to hear it from you…

  9. Riverpearl says:

Bringing over from other thread … Spitz “continuing to hold court”.

Since I was unable to get posts to “post” after early AM of yesterday, I wasn’t able to post this on Spitz:

Former Wayne and Macomb County medical examiner Dr. Werner Spitz has returned to the Detroit area confident in his testimony in the Casey Anthony trial, saying efforts to discredit him were unsuccessful.

“(Prosecutor Jeff Ashton) tried to discredit me, but I don’t think he was successful,” Spitz said. “People that did watch the jury told me the jury was very intent on my testimony.

“It almost looked to me that (Ashton) did not want to extend the cross-examination because he thought all that would happen is that the jury would get a better understanding (of my claims).”

Orlando medical examiner Jan Garavaglia didn’t open the skull during Caylee’s autopsy, which Spitz said doesn’t qualify as a thorough examination. In his autopsy, done on behalf of Anthony’s defense attorneys, he discovered material in the skull indicating the body had been moved during decomposition.

“The opinion that I had, and have, is that the cause of death is unknown as proposed by the medical examiner (from Orlando),” Spitz said Monday. “She determined (the manner of death) was homicide. That doesn’t make sense, not under these circumstances.”

(Bringing this over from the prior thread)

Thank you to those of you who responded when I inquired as to whether anyone has been swayed by the testimony so far. I am sincerely curious if there is ANYONE who has been swayed one way or the other by what we have heard and seen so far. What I am getting at is the efficiency of this trial. Are we learning anything new or earth-shattering?

I would assume (perhaps incorrectly, of course) that we are a sampling of people much like those in the jury pool. Are we open to changing our minds, looking with fresh eyes, being objective? (Rhetorical question.) And if we are not seeing anything new or enlightening, or even confirmatory, what does that mean?

What I was also alluding to is something that seems to have been picked up on in some MSM in the last days – what is the real connection, relationship, dynamic between CA and JB? Something is going on. Not asserting that there is a “love connection” but there is something beyond attorney-client here.

And I so concur with the thoughts about what kind of witness would agree to testify without disclosing potential topics? This just can’t be real – there can not be one mis-step piled on top of another and another and another and so on. I am a paralegal and it makes me sick to watch this. Part of my job is to make sure my attorneys have their ducks in a row. Did JB work with anyone to prepare for this case – anyone who stopped him at any time to question his lines of questioning, his theroy, his sanity?

And it seems that I am seeing well spoken professional people giving the nod to the defense, explaining the strides the defense is making. Are we watching the same trial?

(All written prior to Tuesday’s testimony.)

    Blink,
Thought I would share with your readers who are still struggling with smoking. Try the electric cigarettes. They have been a Godsend for me and my whole family. We started using them in April of 2010 and have either quit altogether or cut way back on real cigarettes. My dad’s heart doctor even said he approved of them. It is my belief that there is more to the addiction than just the nicotine. it is the whole process of holding the cigarette, inhaling and blowing out smoke. You get all of this with the electric cigarette. After you try these, a real cigarette tastes terrible. You will also notice a big difference in the way you feel within 48 hrs. You still get your nicotine, but in a water vapor without the thousands of carcinogens. Just thought I would share because it is such a hard habit to break but is necessary to, for your health. Thanks for letting me share.

  15. OhioSheryl says:

Great article Blink, love the photo.
Lawdy, Casey could be the twin sister to April Whalen. I also do not think her story is going anywhere other then to scare the defense alittle. Kinda liken her story to Vasco Thompson, just another way for the defense to rattle the prosecution.

  16. A Texas Grandfather says:

Blink you have done it again!

I have been watching the testimony of Dr. Wise. After the original questions by Mr. Baez, which IMO shows just how ignorant he is regarding the physical sciences associated with forensics, we see Mr. Ashton, who does know about physical sciences, take the defense witness and turn him into a win for the prosecution. Dr. Wise was smiling because he knew that Mr. Ashton knew something about chemical testing and was asking appropriate questions.

Then back comes Mr. Baez and proceeds to anger and embarass Dr. Wise because he goes back to his money idea regarding the Labrador device.
Trying to impeach his own witness. What a joke of an attorney.

I see you did not include Dr. Bock to the body farm photo. Based on what I observed this morning, she belongs there. Perhaps not as much as Dr. Huntington and Dr. Spitz so maybe she could be placed on top of the soil leaning against the pine tree.

Judge Perry must have the patience of Job. It is still teach the beginner day by day.

I will be listening this evening to the broadcast.

On a serious note, this was the first time that the jury has been informed that the particular bone fragment came from the hip.

Referred to in the ME report as the unfused left ilium, which was found buried in the muck under the trunk of a palmetto bush due to movement of water associated by seasonal SUMMER storms after the dispersion by animal activity.

    ————————————————————-

    Jane,

I noticed that too….it seemed to resemble a ‘straight jacket’, didn’t it?

Also, did you notice yesterday how she tied a knot in the back of her shirt/sweater just above her a$$ ? Not sure if the intended effect was to give her a more body hugging top or if she felt the sweater was too long and was covering (in her mind) her best asset.

It’s almost as though she is being defiant and acting out towards whoever is choosing her wardrobe for her….like, ‘Im not going to wear these loose fitting, frilly clothes anymore…I want something tight that shows of my (Orange County Diet) figure to my audience. You guys (defense team)aren’t helping me at all through any of this, so I will have to take matters into my own hands and use one of the few tools in my arsenal…I’m sure I can get one of the male jurors to notice me and find me not guilty once they see how hot I am’.

All just my opinion, of course.

  22. A Texas Grandfather says:

    Jane, SOTT and Riverpearl

You ladies are a mess. Picking on Casey’s new fashion statement.

All of you are probably correct. She is trying to distract the jurors from listening to the testimony being given for her defense. Particularly when it comes time for the prosecution on cross. Mr. Ashton is literally destroying them one by one.

If her defense team can’t get the job done, she is going to silently help by using the only technique she knows.

I just listen to Sheppard Smith’s broadcast where he is talking about the possible source of the drowning story coming from a woman that was in the cell next to Casey. If this turns out to be true, it fits right in with the makeblieve world where Casey lives.

What is it with this girl. A witness could be up on the stand plunging her down the toilet and she looks somewhat upset, but as soon as that witness is up and out the door, it is like she is going to a new club and all excited and ready to move on poking her chest out and grooming herself. It makes me want to vomit. This girl does not take this serious at all and I really think she is very satisfied with what she has done. She is thinking when I get out this joint I will have no kid to aggravate the crap out of me. I will be free in everyway. WRONG!!!!!Someone has her thinking that she will walk out the door a free women. The facial expressions that she makes to the men around her is just disgusting in these circumstances. I am also tired of her turning her face at the sight of her daughter’s skull. We have to give it to her, she is an actress, but in a very sick way. Also, when LDB mentioned the drowning incident that Casey could have stole from another inmate, the camera showed Casey shacking her head no, making it look like she new exactly what LDB was talking about. The computer searches will nail that coffin shut. Jose is a complete moron if her thinks that the prosecution it going to go through every piece of evidence for him. Jose, give it up, the day is coming when you will regret that day you looked at Casey Anthony shaking that rump and pulling you in. You have gotten yourself in a bind that might end your career sir.

Jane Sott, And TGF- Re the Sweater- I think it may have started out as an issue with waist chains, but Casey being Casey thought, hey why not make this fit me ‘better’, and show off my assets better…

I think the bigger statement by that sweater is the fact that Casey has worn it several days- even during the heart sticker testimony…and she has to realize that there are tiny details on her sweater that look like hearts, on her shoulders, and the pattern around her upper chest seems to form larger hearts at first glance….take a look at todays Bill Shaffear’s recap to render your own opinion.

IMO it not a good thing to drape yourself in anything that can be construed as a love of hearts…the stickers found in her bedroom were enough werent they?

I wonder if jurors noted it? after todays fashion statement it is hard to believe their attention, was not drawn to the sweater, at least once upon exiting or entering…

  49. Kleat says:

Blink, we should list the Canadian contributions to the case, who, aside from the more anonymous commentators who have followed the case here and there and everywhere.

We have Dana, retired ambulance washer from MJ, and contributor to the base knowledge in the blogs, about duct tape, Mr. Red Green of Possum Lodge, Ontario, Canada. We have defense siders, from the toxic wastelands of Sudbury, Ontario, comes expert K9 non-handler-non-trainer forensic anthropologist and professor, (who actually was head of a forensic anthropology dept of a bona fide university, no bolstering with this one), and the computer software investigator from Canada on behalf of the Prosecution, to the half-Canadian resident half Chicagolander, Kathi Reichs, to oh yeah, Dr. Spitz (not Candian, but emeritus he explains, from U. of Windsor, Ontario in chem and bio depts), ……

Sorry Dana, but I think Red Green gets the award for biggest contributions to the understanding of the case, his video contribution of how duct tape is made, is classic and an intellectual learning tool for the layducttapersons. Red Green also added to his contribution, but his now famous closing advice “Keep Your Stick on the Ice”.

  50. Kleat says:

And Red Green brings a bit of humour to the so serious case.
