Two Years Cold-Morgan Harrington Murder: Two Women, Two Locations, Too Long

Girl In The Hayfield

Morgan Dana Harrington was the ingenue of artist and adjunct professor at Virginia Tech, Jane Lillian Vance.

She was scheduled to travel with her to Nepal in the Spring of 2010 while continuing to pursue her Education degree in her third year as a Hokie.

Morgan would not make that trip, and Vance would complete her latest work in her former students honor, last week.

With her Mother Gil’s help, albeit posthumously, Morgan is indeed educating children; the underprivileged children of Zambia.   In April, 2010,  Gil Harrington carried some of her beloved daughter’s ashes during the Orphan Medical Network International (OMNI) pilgrimage to Zambia.   After raising donations for the Morgan Harrington Educational Wing, Morgan’s ashes were mixed with the concrete foundation of the school bearing her name.

At 5’6” ,  with breck-girl locks and eyes like briolette  faceted tourmaline’s,  Morgan was a stunning beauty.

Behind her neon smile was the burgeoning sophistication of a girl beyond her years and peers.

This gilded lily stood out.

On the grounds of the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia while attending a Metallica concert with her friends, unfortunately, she also caught the eye of a dangerous predator.    The cost of admission to the events that followed, would be her life.

Devoid of her ticket to return inside the presumed safety of the venue and old friends,  Morgan scored the unwilling and unalterable ticket to the cross-hairs of a Medium Build, 6’ African American sexual sadist who has likely spent the last four years honing his skills.

“Sketch” was interrupted by a passerby during a vicious beating and sexual assault in Fairfax on September 24, 2005.  His DNA is linked to both victims.

Lights, Cameras, 400 Blue Phones

According to JPJ and UVA security guidelines, all hired security must be law enforcement.

In addition to the regularly scheduled patrol assignments of UVA PD, events such as the Metallica concert required additional security posts which were hired via a security request when the date was booked.  Although additional UVA officers were working the night of October 17, there has never been a statement regarding any observations  from that evening on their behalf by Melissa Fielding, Investigative Lieutenant.

However, in a private meeting that included UVA PD staff, shortly after Morgan’s disappearance, an attendee speaking to www.blinkoncrime.com on the condition of anonymity, told me he heard Fielding tell someone openly that Harrington’s car never left Harrisonburg, or JMU, and that it was a different friends car that was driven to the arena and hers had been accounted for.

In response to another UVA PD staffer loudly offering  that he heard that Morgan was behaving “obnoxiously” during the trip to JPJ, which resulted in a tiff between the friends and the reason she ultimately left the concert, Fielding snapped “That was still no reason to leave her.”

When pressed as to why she thought they still believed Morgan’s car was not a factor when Lt Rader of the Virginia State Police (VSP) and Dr. Harrington, Morgan’s Father, both confirmed her car was the vehicle the foursome traveled in,  she repeated that information was incorrect with no further explanation.  While VSP was leading the investigation at this point, it certainly still begs the question as to why the original agency tasked with her disappearance, and still assisting, would have such important misinformation circulating in an active investigation and ongoing search.

According to the Office of the Executive Vice President of UVA,  UVAPD security personnel are also responsible for surveillance on grounds.  The central monitoring  area, which is linked to the security cameras in several lots and public areas, is located in the central parking garage.  There is no information available on the storage medium of recorded footage from the cameras, and requests for information were deferred to VSP.

The University of Virginia uses technology to improve security on Grounds. University Police install video cameras in several parking lots and public areas. Additional cameras may be installed in the future. Security cameras will be connected to a central control room operated by the Police Department in the new Central Grounds Parking Garage. The purpose for using the cameras is to reduce incidents of crime while limiting the need to expand the Police Department.

VSP is not discussing the specificity of what they have or do not have regarding footage supplied by JPJ/UVA.

With the exception of course that out of everything that has “been supplied to them”, there are no images of Morgan whatsoever.

Stationed inside the arena,  is UVA PD security, non-police event security run by RMC Events,  security staff employed directly by Metallica, UVA facilities management personnel, and contracted vendors to both JPJ and UVA.   Firemarshall, zoning, and University guidelines also require EMT attendance.

Invisible As The Web In a Spiders Belly- Marge Piercy

Morgan asked her friend and roommate Amy Melvin to accompany her to the restroom at approximately 8:20PM.

Because of an earlier spat and lingering tension, Amy declined and Morgan left her seat alone.

Earlier, Morgan attempted to diffuse the matter upon entrance to John Paul Jones Arena  in a conciliatory gesture, by purchasing a Metallica T-shirt for Amy.  Amy reciprocated.

When Morgan climbed between the seats to make her way to the restroom, it was the last time Amy Melvin, Sarah Snead and Dan Cassagne would see their friend alive.

Morgan’s friends treating her like a vexatious afterthought did not aid the situation in the least.

A fellow Metallica fan sitting in the general area of Morgan and her friends, whose name is being intentionally withheld as a potential witness in this case, both observed and interacted with her until she left her seat; he assumed, for a drink.

He said during the Lamb of God set, Morgan changed her seat in the middle, and characterized her as very friendly, but “erratic” and repeatedly asked he and his companions for a sip of their non-alcoholic beverages.

In his opinion, Morgan exhibited signs of being under some sort of influence, was definitely overheated and parched.

A few minutes later, another witness claimed to be online with Morgan at the concession stand where she purchased a soda.

Shortly after this exchange, Morgan is seen dabbing a wound on her chin in the ladies room.   Witnesses in a different area of seating believe they saw a woman matching Morgan’s description fall on the steps to the immediate right of their seats, and was not carrying a drink at the time.

After Amy and Sarah left their seats to look for Morgan when she failed to return, Sarah phoned Morgan on her cell at 8:48PM  .

Morgan was clearly upset as she told Sarah she was refused any option of re-entry by security, but did not reveal why she went outside the arena in the first place.

This account conflicts with that provided by lead investigator, Agent Dino Cappuzzo, of the Virginia State Police, who commented during last years walk through on Anchorage Farm that a ticket-taker informed Morgan she would need to repurchase a ticket in order to return to the concert after she indicated that her ticket was “in pieces at the bottom of her purse.”

Morgan had the means to purchase another ticket.  What she did not have, was her red digital Kodak camera she was digging for when she first exited the arena, and not a shred of her Metallica ticket has ever been found.

Concession Confessions- The Deadly Kind

Think a concession connection is far-fetched?  Tell that to Inna Budnytska.

Michael Lee Jones, former concession employee for Centerplate and then Ovations, used his position as a traveling contract food service employee to prey on his victims.  Mr. Jones worked at a ball field in Norfolk, VA for 12 years.

While it is assumed any other reported assaults with a DNA sample he was involved with would come to light,  84% of stranger rapes go unreported statistically speaking, there are likely unreported assaults.

Jones has no known direct connection to Morgan’s case, but the parallel of access to grounds in some of his crimes and therefore victims at the venue he was working,  is investigative 101.

Without the tenacity of retired Long Island cop turned- investigator Ken Brennan, and the equal ability to be open to civilian assistance by Miami Detective Allen Foote,  Jones would be free right now.

Mike Jones would not have been caught in this case, or the other cases, and would likely have raped and assaulted other victims.

Unlike Inna’s case, without the benefit of video in Morgan Harrington’s disappearance, witness accounts of her time and movement throughout the JPJ arena and subsequent grounds make witness interviews invaluable.

It is abundantly clear that VSP,  profiling experts and analysis of the topography of the700 acre Anchorage Farm indicate whoever is responsible for placing Morgan there, was intimately familiar with the property.

In fact, Lt. Joseph Rader, believes her recovery location as chosen by her killer, is the “most important aspect of this investigation… People of North Garden, this will mean something to you.”

People in the Anchorage Farm area, you know what goes on there, you know the history,” said Rader. “You know who comes in and out of the vicinity and you might not realize it but you probably have some information for us that you don’t even think is important.”

In an earlier article, published shortly after Harrington’s remains were found, we reported the most recent activity of the land and it’s owners David and Nancy Bass.  During the time of Morgan’s disappearance, the farm house, or the home on the Va historical register occupied at the time by the Bass’s daughter Jenny, was undergoing renovations to its hvac.

A carpenter working for Mr. Bass  during the Summer of 2009 recalled stopping a black male driving a black jeep on the back of the Bass property and was told he was David Bass’s brother.

While the farm’s renovations, rezoning and subsequent withdrawal from a previous taxation commitment was compelling reading, it did not produce any leads and The Bass family did not recognize the image of sketch when shown in July 2010.  Perhaps  the historic property needed more history.

Time For Loud- Not Enshroud

If Anchorage Farm holds the key to revealing Morgan’s killer or killers, what other secrets does it hold?

Plenty, and they lead right back to a time in Virginia history that rips the scab off of a fairly fresh wound for many generations, and back to The University of Virginia.

In the 1740’s, Albemarle county, which was formed from Goochland and Louisa counties, was a vast frontier largely owned by Peter Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson’s father, and Col. Charles Lewis, brother of Robert, grandfather of Meriwether Lewis.

Courtesy of Legends Of Lewis

The men opened two plantations near each other, and produced three generations of one or more first cousin marriages between the two families.

Both families amassed great wealth over the years through slaves and land, but as the eighteenth century drew to a close, through a series of farming failures and poor plantation oversight, the Lewis family fell on extremely hard times.

Charles Lewis sold everything he had with the exception of the North Garden property which he gave to sons Randolph, Lilburne and Isham.

The Lewis plantation later named Anchorage Farm by the White family, would remain with Lewis family members through 1846.

In 1808, with looming debt, resentful neighbors and and little cash to parleigh into prospects, Lilburne and Randolph decided to immigrate to Kentucky, the popular new destination for those in crisis, leaving Isham, and a few aunts  to toil what is now known as Anchorage Farm.

With remaining slaves in tow, the Lewis family traveled by barge to their new home “ Rocky Hill”.

Three family members would die in the first eighteen months, and the worst was yet to come.

In the Fall of 1808,  Isham Lewis traveled to Rocky Hill to pay his respects to his recently deceased older brother Randolf, announcing his plans for an indefinite stay.

Isham was widely known for his less than gentlemanly status and his reunion with brother Lilburne, who by this time had spiraled into a deep depression treated with ardent spirits.

Thomas Jefferson’s nephews Isham and Lilburne forged the unholy alliance that would eliminate the possibility of a Lewis dynasty in Kentucky, forever.

The fuse igniting the transformation of Rocky Hill to Rocky Horror was lit.

A teenage slave named George, who traveled with the Lewis family from Albemarle three years earlier,  ran off for a few days in December allegedly due to Lilburne’s treatment of him.

Fueling the alcoholism and depression, Lilburne’s new wife Letitia Griffin Lewis was pregnant with James Griffin Lewis, the couple’s first child together.

On December 15, 1811 George was asked by Lilburne to fetch a pitcher of water believed to belong to his beloved Mother Lucy.  He broke it and returned to the plantation, met by the homicidal rage of the Lewis brothers while all the slaves were made to bear witness, lest they had any ideas such behaviors would be tolerated.

Lilburne and Isham drug young George to the main house, gathered all the slaves to watch, and Lilburne buried an axe in George’s neck to the horror of all.

He ordered another slave to dismember him and threatened all that If anyone had any similar notions to his, they would receive a duplicate fate.

Fate, in fact, would make an appearance shortly in the form of an earthquake, which made George’s remains accessible to the family dog, ultimately discovered by a neighbor and reported to police.

Isham and Lilburne were indicted and freed on bond.  The brothers formed a suicide pact and headed for the Rocky Hill cemetery where Lilburne ended up shooting himself in the chest while showing Isham how to release the flint lock.

Isham fled only to be captured a few days later and jailed for assisting in his brothers suicide.

Letitia, now a widow, fled Kentucky in fear with her newborn son.

Mysteriously, Isham garnered his freedom anyway, through an assisted jail-break.

He disappeared, was believed to live under an alias, marry and was allegedly killed in the battle of New Orleans in 1815.

His remains were never positively identified.

Brother to Dragons, indeed.

In his eventual biography of Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson eluded to the explorer and Governor of Louisiana’s familial afflictions with mental illness following his suicide.   A memoir of an escaped slave, written by Francis Frederick, is believed to depict the treatment of the slaves owned by Thomas Jefferson Randolph, with whom Thomas Jefferson and family resided and attended the adjacent school as a child.

In this period, Virginia was the largest destination for slaves from the Bight of Biafra on the West side of the African coast, and the natives spoke patois.

The extended Lewis family owned plantations on Buck Island, Red Hill Depot, and Monteagle, which is believed to be the former name of the Lewis Plantation.

Committed at a time  and place where it was illegal to murder a slave, George’s story is definitely an anomaly due to the horrific murder becoming known publicly.

Thomas Jefferson is believed to have owned about 200 slaves; a combination of in inheritance from his Father Peter, his wife’s very prominent family the Rudolphs, and through sale.

His father Peter and he were also very close to the William Cabell family of Tuckahoe, one of the largest slave owners in Albemarle, and relatives of Samuel Cabell, murdered  for “taking up” with a former slave and living openly with her and their children.

Could the current Albemarle descendants from either side of the family tree shed any light on family legends that might lead sketch to dump Morgan Harrington’s remains on the former Lewis plantation?  Have they even been asked?

There is no shortage of information today about slave masters and plantation owners producing offspring of mixed race.

In the case of Morgan Harrington’s murder, there is a forensic DNA link to an African American male, also linked to a brutal rape and assault years earlier, who by VSP’s own confirmation, possesses the navigational prowess of an individual who was comfortable traversing an area of the farm unreachable by vehicle as much as 1000 feet away, in the dark.    He is local, period.

Is the paradox of Morgan’s recovery in the hollows of a historic slave plantation while her legacy enriches the lives of African children that will gain educational opportunities previously not possible, in her honor, be enough to stimulate the concscious of someone who has the answers?

Amy, I think she was drugged. I judge this by her bahavior..
If she was not drugged she was one spoiled little girl, by her actions..

I am not seeing how Morgan’s behavior could be categorized as spoiled.

@ George re: RMC Events and H and H. RMC has contracts with various event promoters throughout Virginia, including events in Blacksburg. I would imagine that they subcontract with other security providers as well as individuals trained in that field, including LEOs, although that has become less prevalent due to rules within respective LE shops and the cost inefficiency to hire a cop.

I don’t think that H and H would be excluded from assisting RMC. I will also go out on a limb and say that H and H has worked jobs wihere LEOs were also present and that they know one another quite well.

They have definitely worked venues together, that is correct. RMH is a differently categorized and licensed event security firm however, than H and H. As far as all of them knowing LE at the venues they work, I agree with that also.

It should also be noted that LEO’s working security of any kind, may only do so as their employer regulations allow and in most cases that means it cannot “employ” the same type of activities as their “day” job. Many of these regulations have only been in place recently. As an example, Charlottesville PD policy of off duty employment was signed into effect in December 2009.

About a year ago I aspired to index the Morgan files on BOC. I started out with I. MISSING MORGAN: ‘And Then She Was Gone’ Morgan Harrington Vanishes From Metallica Concert. As far as I can tell it’s Blink’s first article on Morgan and it’s dated Thursday 29 October 2009 10:40 pm. Back then the comments were numbered sequentially without regard to page but when the format changed, the post numbers did too. There’s a post by “Sal” on November 1, 2009 at 1:09 am – first mention of “WT”.

Next was II. Morgan Harrington Case: Are Police Closing In? Here’s where we discussed James Herndon, tie-die t-shirts, body painting, Jeni, refurbished VW bus, etc. Susanm and Momof3, Word Girl. Some girl named Danielle who took up for Herndon and Jeni.

III. Morgan Harrington Case: Lack of Leads Frustrates Search Efforts. 10 November 2009 12:41 pm. First questions of ‘was she really at concert?’; what exactly was she wearing…Observer weighs in…Sherlock…Dakota…Questions about lack of video…

Then my notes have: Morgan Harrington Case: UVA Basketball Players Last To Speak to Missing VT Student. Thursday 12 November 2009 2:31 pm…Previous day Cavalier coach Tony Bennett announced senior forward Jamil Tucker’s indefinite leave of absence from the team ‘for personal reasons’. The Saturday before an announcement had been made regarding Caveliers center, Assane Sene, and his suspension for the first 3 games for ‘conduct detrimental to the team’.

I don’t know what I did with the pages I printed regarding NK, or maybe I didn’t get that far in my indexing. I finally figured out that Blink’s format is by design…it’s a monumental task and I don’t want to help the defense. I never thought we’d be here two years later still scratching our heads…

    Greetings and Salutations
Since my last visit-there have been Lots of very insightful posts- thanks to everyone for contributing so much to the discussion- I have alot to think about
First before I share some of those thoughts, I would like to help Tango out-

Tango- Hi- I just read your last post, and I had to chuckle… remember when you asked to change your name here on BOC? well I once changed my name too. I was “Momof3″ when I first started posting here- I have also been referred to by Blink as “Switzerland” this is because I have always tried to see both sides of every story- I try to walk a mile in everyones moccasins-

Although I understood Blinks reasoning for casting a spot light on the Happy Hippie- (vendors/contractors/ music concert ties & hanging out with beautiful young women-along with Jenny’s whole misguided myspace page ect -I was not for assuming he/she was the bad guy-

Same goes for WT- and the rest. I understand the focus and the need for discussion – I try hard not to automatically jump to any conclusions about anyone… & yes I do take up for anyone I think may be getting the short end of the stick… although I do not think Blink is the one to hold that stick LOL

I assure you-Tango- I and wordgirl and susanm are longtime posters on many different threads- were okay ….as for Danielle. she was a poster here that happened to be acquaintances with THH and she had alot of insightful things to say- she like all of us, seemed to just want to help bring Morgan home- Sal too ….

As for NT- yes- I admit his hobbies and postings gave me the creeps and his whole -(pp) what if it was a friendly mutual get-together/outing for ice cream –which then led to playful hitting that turned ugly fast..it all even now gives me the heeby jeebies- he posted here several times too- he seems to just like the limelight- strange but who can say strangeness = anything more…IDK I cant-

Tango, I want you to know I really appreciate your going back and trying to figure out stuff from past threads- I do it alot too- and there is a wealth of info to be found- Someone here once said that BOC archives may in fact hold alot of the answers…I think that may be true- I just dont know if we know which questions are pertinent and which just lead down the wrong rabbit hole- but I think it is worth it to keep trying- as with hindsight, the truth may jump out……. we can hope.

From the beginning we have all asked questions and pondered & we all try to keep a level head

I know trying to go thru it all is a monumental task thanks for all your hard work,Tango-

If it makes you feel any better, I too, once asked if all of our posting was going to inadvertently help a defense later on- the truth is we cant know- but what I do know is that Dr.Harrrington once came here to say that LE finds our thoughts helpful and he also once posted asking us all to never forget Morgan and to keep posting- so thats what I do- its all I can do- I may not do it as frequently as I once did, but I do it is often as am am able-

    Keep on Keeping on Tango
    Peace

I’m glad you were sent the Greene County Sheriff’s article , I had it marked to send to you along with another link involving LE.
Of interest to me because of past issues with “dirty cops” & here’s one who is supposedly a minister stealing from the church .

“A Charlottesville police officer is facing is facing felony embezzlement charges. Wilbert Brassfield, 47, was served
with three felony embezzlement indictments Wednesday.
He turned himself into the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office.”
“The charges stem from an investigation of missing money from the Courts of Praise Christian Fellowship in Fluvanna.”
Virginia State Police say more than $10,000 was taken from the church’s bank account without approval.
Brassfield was the pastor of the church from its inception in 2006 through this year.

    Hey Mom3.0,

Thank you! I’m trying to forge some kind of online identity that will more easily move between threads here on BOC…mary wasn’t cutting it…I started out as “mary” posting at home, then for a while when posting from work I was “mary too”…So I remember your name change…and the fact that you’re known as Switzerland lol…that’s a real compliment IMO….During the CA trial I posted on the CA threads as “maryfromthemorganthread”. I’m the girl who walked out of my 10 year high school reunion wearing the spaghetti strap sequined dress and matching heels and was subsequently raped…I was mad and drunk and acted stupidly…I have a daughter who’s a senior in college…I’ve followed this case since November of 2009. I posted briefly on findmorgan.com as “o’doul” and I made the suggestion to findmorgan to split up the regular threads from the psychic ones. I realize none of this matters really. I’m also guilty of a terrible faux pas early in the case when I used a gross euphemism to indicate some people on another site were getting real excited…I’ve butted heads with a few posters including joe america…gee I thought he’d have the case solved by now…lol…most of my posts have been short because I just don’t have time to write (or read) anything terribly lengthy or Faulknerish…I used to get furious at J2K for exhorting us to use *critical thinking* when reading her posts…as popular as she was I had a hard time following her plus I work full time and have a family…studying her words was not my priority…I wish I was better about recognizing other posters as you do Mom, it’s so nice…but as I say the time I have to post is short and I was always afraid I would leave others out…my focus has primarily been in the parking lots of the JPJ arena and those last seen with Morgan but I have followed along through the music, the videos, the scrolls…after all this time I just can’t believe the case hasn’t been solved…

I wish everyone a very Happy New Year! Here’s to Blink On Crime…I’m hoping one day LE and prosecutors will learn to glean information from sites like this…I’m convinced the CA trial would have turned out differently if they had.

  9. George says:

    CentVA Native Away,

I am sure you are correct. I was mainly trying to point out that ‘RMH Security’ (with an H) is the security force for the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg as opposed to to ‘RMC Events’ which is being sued by the Harringtons. If someone wanted to find out more about the JPJ Arena security and did a search for ‘RMH Security’ only the hospital security would come up which is totally unrelated. Search ‘RMC Events’ instead.

  10. Amy says:

The sequence of events makes more sense if Morgan was involuntarily ousted from JPJ.

    why?

    -ticket would be useless

    - no coat or car keys taken outside

-no obvious reason to go outside, no dates nothing

-still looking and fumbling for ticket which was obviously torn

    -immediately trying to re enter

-seeking older person (underage drinking was the crime?) to guide her back in

A non verbal acknoledgment of voluntary excile (a nod) may be too little to go on.

    *disclaimer all speculation *

There is nothing worse IMO than a dirty cop. A person sworn to uphold the law, but instead uses his or her inside information to steal from or assault the persons they are hired to protect.

The Greene county area seems to have some sort of attraction for LE people who go rogue.

Is it possible that someone directed Morgan to the RMC shuttle bus as a place to get out of the weather and stay warm? What route does the bus take and where would it be parked in relation to the lots around JPJA? The limo driver would probably know about this shuttle. Makes one wonder just how much the limo driver told LE regarding what he saw.

The Virginia Attorney General has just given an opinion that colleges in Virginia can no longer cause a person that has a State Concealed Carry permit to leave their weapon behind when visiting a campus. This unfortunately does not apply to students or anyone who works for the school who is not associated with security or LE.

This goes back to my assertion that LE cannot protect you. They can only clean up the crime scene after the fact. It is everyone’s responsibility to take care of themselves and to look after those around you.

Tango glad to know you and its my pleasure to meet your acquaintance again- My best to you and your daughter.

Hi MsL, I am sorry i did not respond sooner to your post- I hope you are still out there & willing to pick up the conversation.

    You wrote, December 23, 2011 at 9:14 am :

This of course is all just my opinion, but I think Morgan had a definite destination in mind when she left the arena. That’s the reason I believe LE stated that nothing inside the arena had bearing on what happened to her outside.

    – MSL- your opinion could be right- Morgan once outside, discovered her camera missing and wanted back in…

She was unable to regain admittance, she then formulated a plan to get to a definite destination-
IMO, I think saying she had a definite destination in mind all along, is not supported by what happened or what was said in the Hook article- which stated that Morgan immediately wanted back in- also this would seem to be underscored by her reported conversation to Sara in which she was given other ideas on reentering- in addition to this, it has been reported that Morgan attempted reentry “multiple” times- there was never any mention of retrieving a lost camera- this little tidbit was reported as an assumption- (pp) she was seen rummaging in her purse- it is assumed in an effort to find her lost camera….-

(bTW) How would the door person know odf Morgans plight unless she told her? So we have a distressed, injured patron, whio has seemingly lost a camera- and who others have said was erratic, clumsy appeared drunk- injured- looking for her belongings which she may have lost in a FALL INSIDE the ARENA and this paid personel- a representative of JPJ and it woulsd seeem UVA does nothing to help but sends this distressed injured bleeding girl outside with out her friends without her keys without a jacket without HELP and tells her to buy anmother ticket…..ummm yeah really good policy.

    MSL
It would seem that Morgan did not immediately want to get anywhere except for back inside the venue.
She hung around the lots in the area never flagging down a taxi- never calling her other friends for a ride- nor her parents-

She remained in the area- from 8:20 when she was locked out, until after 9:20 when she was seen alone in the lots by the curtsy couple. She never made a move to leave the area surrounding JPJ-

BUT- she was said to have declined all offers of help yet she met up with Kickee and stated something like “lets go” which he declined- then she met up with the BBP and she is spotted by the bookkeeper twice and by the limo driver- she walks with the four, to the lot –then they say she asks them for a ride to a specific destination- which they decline to give her a ride- and they all leave at by or at 9:20-

Lets look at that information – asked for a ride to a specific destination…. well couldnt she have simply asked for a ride to the front of JPJ, to the lost and found station maybe she thought the Gods of the arena could be a mediator to regain ownership of her camera??? O maybe she asked them for a ride to her car, or to the nurses station, or to security…or could she have simply asked to go WITH them to THEIR destination?

WHY are we assuming that Morgan wanted to leave the area- She stayed in the area all night- she stayed with the BBP, she never left the area until she was seen HH on the bridge…seeking a ride—- back in the direction of….yep the same area?!!?!?

Morgan walks to the lots with the same group of 4 that she was playful with and they are seen laughing…then she is spotted again in the lots- to which an assumption is made that they are going to party before Metallica takes the stage- which to me- illustrates that bookkeeper, yet concerned that “the girl” was alone in an “empty parking lot” with 4 guys- she was not alarmed by the girls demeanor- to her, it seemed as if they were going to party— well that certainly doesnt stir up images of a girl in distress- sullen, crying, arguing, bleeding, grimacing- it seems all would have been portraying the mannerisms of a group TOGETHER- WITH instead of NOT with – you know. ready to party- -high spirits, smiling, laughing-
    joking ect-

So if we look at the info close, could it be that Morgan never had a destination in mind other than the arena- which – if she like countless others thought of the BBP as Gods of the Arena- she may have been asking them for help to get her camera, or for help in reentering not leaeing, and -if they were unable to help in that endeavor then she could have then went to plan B- to go WITH them to THEIR destination ??

A girl that all night stayed in the area- even AFTER the BBP departure- even when seen by CDuo she did not seem distressed did not “flag down” the curtsy duo- did not ask to go with them to retrieve her coat- her camera- her keys -her car -her friends but instead ran to the bridge and what?? wanted a ride back thru the lots?…
This girl that took no offers of help and stayed with the BBP suddenly did not go back & seek help from any of those earlier good Samaritans but instead ran off to the bridge to HH with an unknown stranger without her belongings which she had dutifully kept with her all evening —despite being wobbily and “erratic” and clumsily dropping them — she suddenly drops everything- and leaves it…. only to want to HH back in the direction of the lots…

    Part 2 Re- MSL

    Hi -
    You wrote:

I think it’s very possible she wanted to return almost immediately, not to stay, but to look for her camera.

Yes, Msl- I agree this could be what happened- but IF this was what happened and IF LE knew all along what occured inside the arena….then why did this information only become know WAYYY after- and if LE knew this info that Morgan did in fact lose her camera and discuss it with the door person then why did LE make it seem as if this camera was with Morgan when she left and they seemed to be looking for it in the same way they were looking for the battery and the necklace?

It seems to be a known fact, she did at least go into a bathroom because someone saw her applying a paper towel to the cut on her chin.

Yes it SEEMS to be a known fact that this happened and it also seems to be a known fact that Morgan was seen falling in two different locations once on the stairs and yep once taking a picture with a drink in her hand…so again if this info was known by LE why didnt they state that Morgans camera was lost inside the arena, during a fall and that anyone that found the camera should bring it to them- no questions asked—BTW IF Morgan did fall in the arena isnt it JUST as likely that her camera was broken in one of the falls? and IF it was isnt it likely that a very mad and embarrased and hurt bleeding crying Morgan threw her camera away in that very same bathrooms trash?

    You wrote:
If she actually used the bathroom, she could have very easily left the camera on the hook inside the stall door, on the paper dispenser, or on a sink counter. The camera could have been found by another concert goer, taken several states away, with it’s significance never known. Or, it’s possible the person who found the camera, after learning that it belonged to a missing person, just didn’t want to admit that he or she had not bothered to turn it into lost and found.

All these scenarios are plausible MSL and all these scenarios could have shouldve wouldve been better handled by VSP and NOT UVA as if they case was immediately handed over to VSP then immediately there would have been a securing of all trash cans and the areas surrounding the venue and the lots- and the dogs couldve have been brought in instead what happened is UVA the next day held a job fair and all this evidence and potential evidence was contaminated and or disposed of…

Part of the blame sadly goes to the friends who left and did not report to anyone that Morgan was missing- and part of the blame goes to UVA and JPY for not stepping back sooner and part of the blame goes to VSP because even when they were asked in- they did not take over and they were by all accounts seemingly on the outside looking in and virtually clueless- as they were going under the assumption that Morgan had simply walked off to party and would return safely-

    You wrote in part:

I think the Richmond CPA reported as accurately as she remembered her sighting of Morgan crossing Massie Road with BIB, now known to be 4 white members of the men’s basketball team. Her time is probably almost spot on because she made a phone call immediately thereafter….If I remember correctly, the limo driver either saw Morgan with the players or walking in the same vicinity as the players. When he learned of the disappearance, I seem to remember it was reported he said he hoped the players were not involved.

MSL I agree that her accounts seem to be the most helpful.. why is it that her accounts seem to be missing from all other later accounts?? they are just left out- and Limo drivers also- and yet we still have the BBP -although it has always been said they were not WITH Morgan- but these two witnesses seem to paint a different picture of this…

Is it because IF one takes these two sightings into account then it makes the timeline almost impossible to follow? IDK….

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions Msl – I hope you dont mind me “jumping off” yours to give some of my own.

Happy New Year to all who post and read here. I am feeling frustrated, as usual, with the way this case appears to have stalled. I don’t want to assume anything, perhaps the police are ON this. I have been thinking about your comments–many regarding the security firms again. So I have a question: how much has RH changed physically in the last five to seven years? Clearly, he appears to be shorter than the victim’s description but that can be explained by many things including the victim being dragged and held down. But RH appears (in his photos at http://www.charlottesvillesecurity.com/) to be noticeably bulky–pleasantly plump to put it mildly. I’m just getting at the idea that the Fairfax victim would have seen and been aware of this immediately. But he is described as medium build. In Jim Brewer’s article entitled, PROTECTION FOR BONDS AND BUSINESSES AT H & H SECURITY, RH looks a BIT slimmer, more muscular, and younger than in the other photos.

    From the C-ville:
“In September 2005, a Fairfax woman was abducted and sexually assaulted and City of Fairfax Police detectives were able to create a composite sketch based on the victim’s description of the subject,” according to the release. The suspect is described as a black male between 25 and 35 years of age, roughly 6′ tall and with a medium build. He was described in 2005 as having black hair, a beard and mustache, and was described wearing a “black colored pullover sweater with a zipper, white t-shirt underneath and light colored pants.”

Someone in uniform or in an “official” looking car of some kind nevertheless still seems like the best avenue for further exploration to me.

Amy–yes, supposedly Morgan was warned before she left the arena that she would not be allowed back in.

    Part 3

The Urgency of the case and perceptions
    —-
To me there is a chance that every account could be skewed to help bolster a certain perception of what occured….what I mean by this is-
From nearly the beginning it was said that Morgan was erratic that she was belligerent- aggressive- wobbily- drunk ect-

Even before we knew who the witnesses were(BBP) it was stated she was with, but not with them-

Nearly every account given is portrayed in such a way as to shed a less than sympathetic/favorable light on Morgan and her behaviors.
Everything seems to downplay the urgency of a missing young woman- a missing injured young woman- who is without her ids and phone-

IF LE knew that Morgan may have fell in the arena and more than once, if they knew she had a tiff with her friends, if they knew that she had lost her camera, and she was crying, bleeding sad and mad- if they knew she said her ticket was in pieces in her purse, if they knew she was denied re-entry- why are her behaviors portrayed as being “erratic” or drunk? why didnt they come out and say:

A young woman has gone missing from JPJ arena. She was last seen on Oct 17th Saturday night- wearing _ _ _ She is 20 years old here is a picture of her her hair is blonde eyes blue-

She was out of sorts after becoming separated from her friends-

She was alone and in a highly emotional state at the time. She had lost her red camera- and had been denied reentry- She was without a coat, in the cold and rain…

She may have appeared erratic- overly dramatic- acting out-she had fallen and injured herself while inside the arena-she was likely disoriented from this fall- even though she had been drinking, she was not drunk -but may have appeared so -because of the injury-

She is without her cell phone and her ids- — her faculties may have been impaired-
She may have been in need of a ride she may have resorted to HH.

Anyone seeing a girl matching this description or any of the belongings mentioned- anyone in the area, on the roads, ect please call- again, anyone who may have had contact with Morgan Dana Harrington on Sat Oct 17th or in the days after call-
    this specific number

    But this is what was said;
I am LT Joe Rader VSP this is LT Feilding UVAPD- to my right are Dan and Gil Harrington- the parents of the focus of this investigation… as far as a missing young lady
I will give you a brief overview of the investigation…

    Snipped:
Basically what we have is on October the 17th we have a young lady who is twenty.. years old she is a white female her name is M D H she has long hair and blue eyes

She attended a concert at the JPJ arena.. with some friends.. at the time Morgan was at the concert she was wearing a black t shirt.. that had the words “Panera” written across it She was also wearing black knee high boots, black tights and a black mini skirt.

During the concert she became separated from her friends.. and has not been heard from since…

She is currently listed as a missing person…. HOWEVER there is some concern because Morgan… out of character.. has not contacted anyone since the night of the concert…

Its important for us as police officers to realize that… people do come up missing…

However, it is very very unusual that we have not heard anything either from her friends or from her family regarding her whereabouts…

That is the biggest concern, currently… is her whereabouts and her welfare………

The details of the investigation are very limited.

We have very limited information to work with….. there have been interviews conducted… of her friends.. obviously of her family….

She is a student at Virginia Tech, she is a junior majoring in education.

She went to James Madison University and met up with some friends and went to the JPJ arena for the concert… and…That is the last that was seen of her…..

ANYONE… anyone, that may have seen Morgan, or a young lady matching this description… AFTER October 17th…. which was Saturday night…..should report it to the police.

She most likely will not have any identification with her, and most likely will not have any cell phone with her….

In addition to that…PLEASE, from the media, honor whatever wishes the family has of you whether it be on camera or off camera….alright? uhh… Our job is not only to LOCATE Morgan, but also to provide support to the family….

With that in mind, I will say this…she was reported missing yesterday, at 12 30 by her father, Dan Harrington…and that is when the LE became involved in the investigation.

CURRENTLY, the investigation is a missing person investigation ONLY…

Uhh I will allow the Harringtons to step up and say whatever they want to, certainly they will entertain questions within the parameters I have given you…

Dan Harrington speaks- shows pics of Morgan. Gil also speaks and shows pics both talk about Morgan and make her “real” ask for morgan to return safely and for anyone who may have seen her or can help to contact police…

LT Rader then asks for Gils first name and returns to the podium…

Are there any follow up questions of the media may have that i may be able to answer?

Basically UVAPD since yesterday, have been conducting numerous interviews of those that actually saw Morgan the night of the concert… a follow up to that is that they have asked for our assistance because we have an abundance of resources beyond just..personnel.

Part of the resources are that we did bring a hcopter in, today, the H copter was used to do an aerial flyover to see of there was anything out of the ordinary in the area pf the JPJ arena, and the highways…

In addition to that… k-9s have been utilized… as a follow-up…we would do some more ground searching…using some different methods on certain places…just to see if there is anything unusual…

The question is why would we be doing ground searches…. the answer is, we have a missing person, who was last seen outside the JPJ arena, and that is the end of the information….So it really entails us to try and cover as much ground as possible, both physically, with people… as well as going out and conducting followup interviews….

I would also encourage anyone who is into the social networking…and the internet…that if you hadve heard whether it be by phone or by internet from Morgan SINCE Saturday night… please contact the police….

I will provide the police # theres multiple numbers that we use and I certainly you all, based on your past experiences… will post for folks to see….

Theyll also be posted on the UV website as well as the VSP website….

WHere are we at now with the investigation? We continue to try and find new leads….
I will tell you that basically the information that we have received is fresh information…but it is nothing new…. that leads us in a particular direction….

I would encourage anyone that worked in a convenience store… late Sat night into Sun. morning.. anyone driving on the roads around JPJ arena…or the Charlottesville roads… if you saw anyone that matched this description or closely matched the description… that information is PERTINENT to the investigation…. PLEASE DO NOT hesitate to call the police.

Ummmm if its absolutely got to be anonymous… so be it but..once again, our job is to find her…. and check on her welfare.

Thats the most important thing…and put the parents at somewhat at ease…..

    Are there any other questions?

Her father reported her missing… and we wont go into how he learned that… she did make it to the concert… and she was with friends yes.

But during the concert she became separated and was not seen anymore.

What time was she last seen? i should be able to answer that question but I dont have that information i apologize.. i will find that out…. Feilding should be able to answer that..Feilding jumps in: 8:40 about 8:40…

purse battery parkinglot question…rader says he wont comment on any evidence or belongings that have been found to do that would # one jeopardize the (pp) investigation but I can tell you that she will not have any identification with ehr….

Followup -obviously it is important that you folks are here so we can reach out to the community…. inorder for you to be able to do your jobs we have to be able to supply pertinent information that will help locate her… the investigative info will be somewhat restricted…. because we have we dont know what we have yet….(shrugs shoulders)

However, we will conduct follwups and send out press releases…..or the PRoffice in Richmond will notify you with public releases as to the status of whats going on….

Certainly if there is any news breaking information we will follow our procedures… first of making sure the family understands whats going on, and then we will followup with the media…thats the best we can do right now but we do appreciate that you are trying to get the word out.

And thats about all the info we have at this time

Ends by Rader giving a myriad of different # and emails- which only happenede because he was asked directly for them- otherwise he was going to give them to the media later off camera to post….

(rader) Finally in conclusion, i really urge her friends…. who know her, probably better than anyone, beyond her parents, you know her Habits… you know her friends… take an interest in this case…. dont let it lay down… and go away from your perspective… the police wont…

but the information we receive…. is about as good as we get… in conducting an investigations… So hopefully- you know, we can all cooperate together..the media, police the parents & her friends and bring this this thing to a successful resolution…
and a positive resolution, and that pretty much is all we have to say at this point…

We can talk off camera if you like if there is something you need to clarify….

UVApd says if you all email us we can forward those pics to you….
rader ends it by saying (pp) those working under him will be involved in working this case- he may not have all the answers but he will get the info from them and pass it on to the media as need be…

do we know if any of the basketball players had apartments in the area the shirts was found? I’m not speculating the bball players our responsible. Maybe the perp placed the shirt next to some of the bball players house to further incriminate them. This would tell us how close he is to the community. Just a thought

    Eddie
interesting thoughts- you could be right- if the BGuys were watching and listening they like most of the other witnesses would have seen Morgan interacting with the BBP they would have seen her NOT leave with them- but may have heard her ask to go …they could have been banking on the BBP being the last to see her- perhaps they went to get their car when Cduo entered and exited- then they could have offered her a ride to meet up with the BBP and she was told to wait on the bridge for them to return thats when F/d ect saw her- then the shirt could have been placed there by Bguys to throw off investigation or stir it toward a certain direction… Who knows?

Edward- unfortunately I can not say that there is no way there is a cover- up in this case- I think there is ample evidence to support several cover-ups not necessarily covering up for the killer or for Sketch but inorder to project a better light upon ones on self- whether it be JPJ or UVA or the friends or VSP or whomever- I think many people provided info that would portray them in the best light and left out info that would tend to portray them in a less than favorable light….

CentVA Native Away- thank you for sgharing that information- very enlightening.

Amy- I think her friends were left with no other choice but to say it was not unusual for Morgan to hook up with another friend and leave abnd return the next day- if they didnt say that it would have made them look very bad to leave Morgan stranded at the arena- taking her vehicle and her coat- and to have not alerted her parents or brother or security ect… also if you look at their behavior that was reported after the concert- it seems it is not jiving with what Morgan supposedly said in the 8:48 call- Ill find a ride home dont worry…nor does it jive with friends who are used to Morgan bailing on them top leave for the night…

They waited around at the arena for hours- they broke off plans with their other friends,,they told them one of their party was “missing” and then after waiting there they chose to wait until the early morning hours some reports until dawn at a nearby restaurant for Morgan to show up before leaving Charlottesville…How does that jive with their perceptions of Morgans dont worry Ill find a ride she has a propensity to hook up scenarios?

Rader says: (Friends) “They even looked for her after the concert hung around the venue…. went down to a local resturnuant tried to find her.. & after many hours into the morning ,they went back to Harrisburg Virginia.

BTW how does her showing up the NEXT day equal no urgency when Morgan did not return the NEXT day?

Amy thanks for addressing redly’s question regarding an offer of a ticket. According to reports -

Cappuzzo says: Witnesses outside the arena, told us “that they offered Morgan assistance… you know… asked her if she needed help..did she need a ticket …. to get in…she said no, she had a ticket, but she refused any kind of assistance, that anybody offered her…”
    and
8:48 callRader IIRC states: “basically” she says I’ll get a ride-. then She is acting erratic..she is unsteady on her feet. She is offered help, need a ticket? I got one…

Tarheel I have never heard who limo driver was waiting for…

    Olivia good to see you.

Wouldn’t her friends have to be completely honest with LE about which drugs and or alcohol they knew Morgan had taken so LE could rule out if she had been given something without her knowledge? The friends had to know if Morgan was too “under the influence” to be left outside to find a ride on her own. Especially when her car was parked right there. I know they loved her but did they know what was found in her system or not? Was she slipped something by someone else inside the arena?

  25. Questioner says:

Mom3.0 – Thank you for making us think, making us realize that after this long Morgan will NEVER DIE, we will all be here talking until we are blue, if that’s what it takes for justice for Morgan and the Harrington’s.

That said, I had once before long ago, stated that if the doorman KNEW that Morgan was missing her camera, which he stated he did, then why was it that he didn’t escort her back into the arena to search for it, possibly the last place she had been? Why indeed did LE keep the public thinking for the longest time that the camera wasn’t still possibly inside the arena? And why indeed was it that knowing that they had a missing person on their hands did they NOT secure the JPJ Arena and as you stated, NOT keep ALL the trash from the night before?

It would seem to me, that the job fair and the money it would bring to the arena was far more important than conducting a correct police investigation. There is so much negligance here it stinks! I’m not done yet!

  26. Questioner says:

A couple more thoughts from Q.

Why didn’t Morgan ask someone in the arena lot if they could figure out a way to get into her own vehicle?

I’ve always said, if the friends actually waited as many hours as they did around the lot and in C’ville, then how is it that fact didn’t hit Lt Radar as strange, since Morgan said that she would find a way home?

And, why, if there is no cover up going on, is this so difficult for LE to solve?

Q- I have never been able to exclude the possibility that Morgan did exactly that.

Remember the 9:30PM stolen purse and contents call we reported like forever ago? It reported the time of the incident between 5:30 and 6PM, iirc, as opposed to the reporting time.

I cannot say for sure that was relative to Morgan, but I have yet to see VSP address the issue as to why Morgan would have refused assisstance, simply because she expected to retrieve her own vehicle, or at least sit in it to keep warm.

Would be interesting to know what spot they parked in vs. Granny sighting of the arguing couple with the girl matching Morgan’s description and the big gold earring, which, consequently, she was wearing.

    I agree with you re-raising the question-emphatically.

I do not believe the statement “the logical conclusion is that Morgan entered a vehicle on or near the bridge.” I never have. How is that logical based on the evidence- what do they know that we don’t?

I don’t believe the answer to that question is anything other than a lack of an alternative explanation, which as we all know, means they have no clue.

    B

  27. Questioner says:

The only thing that I can say on that call report of the stolen purse either isn’t related to Morgan, someone is covering up for the actual time of the call, or the doorman and everyone else that thought they saw Morgan that night dropping her purse is lying, or it wasn’t Morgan that was seen. Which now if I remember correctly, Dad saying to me, he wasn’t certain that ANYONE that thought they saw Morgan in the lot was indeed Morgan.

And then I ask myself, how is it that they WOULDN’T have known that it was Morgan because of her long blonde hair, the boots, the incident with the doorman, her emptying out the contents of the purse looking for her camera, then saying that her ticket was torn up and in the bottom of her purse, YET it wasn’t found with the purse.

Plus apparently the father daughter duo didn’t see a purse when they saw Morgan, but then her back wouldn’t have been toward them, and the purse was black.

If the incident call was correct and it pertained to Morgan and the time was earlier, then that would negate everything we think we know.

    My mind is twirling…………

I would offer it would negate the timeline, and most definitely that Morgan was as impaired as stated, and that she was not attempting to get a ride but attempting to access her own car.

    Changes things, folks.
    B

  28. Questioner says:

Which makes the grandma sighting even more important, because she says that at 9:30 the two people, one who looked like Morgan and had her hair pulled back and a gold earring in her ear fighting with someone behind her vehicle.

I’ve given this senario before and I still believe that it could be accurate, that if indeed it was Morgan, she knew who she was fighting with, and eventually she left with him. Now, if she was trying to access her own vehicle, and whoever this was was trying to help her do it, then what senario would he have used to get her into his car?

Possibly let’s go get some hot coffee and I’ll bring you back here when the concert is over? That would also be around the time that Morgan’s cell phone lost it’s battery. Which makes me wonder who she knew at that concert that was security or LE because to me, that would be the only person who she would go with willingly. But then why fight him behind grandmas car?

Still and always will be thinking this through……….

    Possible, Q.

Or how about this completely hypothetical and not based on any inside information theory, and I mean that:

Male driver had Morgan’s keys, maybe he headed outside, did not feel Morgan was in a position to drive so refused to give them to her, resulting in her calling campus police to gain entry.

I cannot say this emphatically enough- it is my belief that Granny saw/heard Morgan Harrington in the vicinity of her own vehicle, it has always been.

Does it bother anyone else that Granny heard what she thought was a loud “slap” at the same time Morgan’s phone loses power?

As in, maybe she dropped her purse/phone while arms locked with the unidentified male?

    All within minutes:

Bridge sighting alleged: 9:20 PM ( based on key entry of witness at 9:23 PM)

    All approximately 9:30:

Granny sighting near car, matches Morgan’s description. Contains previously unknown to public information and unreleased gold earring. If it was Morgan on the bridge, for anyone to identify the Pantera shirt as they claim to have, she would have had to have her pulled back, otherwise, it is likely that her hair would have covered much of the wording.

Morgan’s phone power source removed by some means.
Phone call to campus police about stolen purse/contents in car by car’s owner. Call suspended minutes later. ( yes I know it was for a different lot, but she may have simply got the name wrong, or was connected to the wrong area)

9:33 ish PM No Morgan on bridge as Dad heads past from the 7-11.

Q- do you have the pic of the lot space Morgan’s car was parked?

ALso , Could it be that the 2 on the golf cart possibly offered Morgan a ride to check on the vehicle she came in , but then overpowered her ? ( I suppose the parking area where the car was parked DID have video ?)

  31. alabamamom says:

VSP saying that Morgan was offered numerous offers of assistance but declined all offers (paraphrased) really truly eats at me. WHO offered her help & “What” type of help was offered?

VSP saying that the ticket taker at the door explained the no re-entry policy , that she understood , yet she chose to exit anyway truly eats away at me , gets under my skin because it seems to point the finger right back at Morgan . As I had posted several times , the noise level was so high , I feel certain that even IF the ticket taker explained the no re-entry policy to Morgan in detail, it would have been impossible for Morgan to hear due to the noise level exposure .

Actually alabamamom, Morgan was told she would NEED her ticket to re-enter. She was not told she would not be able to re-enter at all, according to SA Cappuzzo, unless he simply worded his comment “loosely.”

One of the interesting aspects of the civil case is going to be what other patrons were allowed re-admittance to the venue that night. It will be enlightening to see who came and went, got back in, and what methods were used to keep track of that activity. And before anyone asks, yes, I know as a fact that happened.

It is my opinion that the civil suit will show that information in the hands of RMH events, and possibly VSP will conflict with theories about Morgan’s disappearance even further than we already know.

Lastly, my dear lady, I want proper health updates- love and light to you.

  32. alexandra says:

I have always wondered why she would not have attempted to break in to her own car, parked right there.

I would have done that before attempting to “get a ride”

There are several licensed security staff that are also locksmiths, as an example of how an individual like that might be helpful if that were Morgan’s goal. This is simply a theory I have held as a possibility for a very long time I have not been able to exclude.

Granny assumed the couple knew each other.
Granny spoke to them. Was he a white guy?

I go around in circles in my mind on everything.
The answer is out there. LE must know more than we do, still they are as stymied as we are.

Did Morgan and her roommate have the argument early in the day? Or just once inside the arena? What was the reason Morgan didn’t drive? They said she was studying in the back seat. Sarah drove right?

Police in Va. Investigate Body Found in Pond
    CLIFFORD, Va. (AP)
    December 31, 2011

Amherst County authorities are trying to determine how a woman ended up dead in a pond, her disabled vehicle nearby.

The discovery was made on Friday near US 29 in the Clifford area. Amherst County Sheriff Jimmy Ayers III told the News & Advance of Lynchburg the woman had no obvious marks or injuries.

Ayers said the woman may have been attempting to reach a house in the rural area that has no streetlights. He said she may not have seen the pond.

The disabled vehicle has a Virginia license plate and was parked a short distance from the pond.

The body was sent for an autopsy in Roanoke. Her identity has not been released.

Blink, Morgan’s parents have done all they can to bring awareness to the fact that HE IS STILL OUT THERE… who knows if any of these missing people are linked. But instead of listening to their gift of fear, many spend more time attacking Morgan’s behavior rather than see the big picture…That Something bad is happening in the Charlotteville area…

Incidentaly, Amherst is just down the road from Anchorage Farm on Rt 29.

With all due respect, the reporting on this piece is lame. There are at least 40 ways for a reporter to find out who the person might be, how they might be connected to the area, etc.

I repeat, the piece mentions her vehicle was disabled 2x- how was it disabled?

That said, I am wondering why the commenters would think it is a male when they already know it is a female.

The she did not see the pond theory is laughable- sigh. Agreed is worthy of keeping an eye on IMOG, thanks for posting.

At Family’s Request, Missing Fluvanna Man Declared Dead

    December 29, 2011

A Fluvanna County man missing since 2004 was officially declared dead at the request of his relatives.

The family of Jesse Morgan Hicks was in court Thursday for the civil hearing, asking that the court declare him dead for civil matters like insurance, estates, marriage, etc. Hicks disappeared on Sept. 1, 2004 and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Hicks was last seen driving his 2004 maroon Ford F-150 truck in the Blenheim area of Albemarle County. Four days later, the vehicle was found abandoned in a parking area OFF ROUTE 29, NEAR THE INTERSECION WITH ROUTE 6 IN NELSON COUNTY.

State law (Title 64-1 – Wills and Decedent’s Estates, Chapter 5, section 64-1-105) says anyone who has been missing for seven years can be declared dead:

“Any person who has resided in this Commonwealth who (i) leaves, does not return to the Commonwealth for seven years successively and is not heard from; (ii) disappears for seven years successively and is not heard from; or (iii) disappears in a foreign country, whose body has not been found and who is not known to be alive, upon issuance of a report of presumptive death by the Department of State of the United States, shall be presumed to be dead.”

Fluvanna County authorities, however, say that hearing will have no impact on the criminal investigation. They continue to search for clues in his disappearance, but say they still lack key information needed to locate Hicks.

Anyone with information on Hicks’ disappearance is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000 or Investigator Thomas Brennan of the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office at 434-589-8211. There is still a reward of up to $10,000 available to any person with information on the case.

  36. Amy says:

Thank you mom for making a coherent post containing all our fragmented thoughts, thats truly a gift.

Is it possible the only reason for wanting to re enter is to retrieve the car keys and drive of? the reason for not calling her friends, that the argument was ongoing? Did someone come out or indeed appear to help enter the car?

  37. Questioner says:

Q- do you have the pic of the lot space Morgan’s car was parked?

    B
    —————————
I can remember asking Dad if Morgan’s car was parked at the Emmet St garage, I was asking because at that point we had Skylers account so well laid out for us, and let me know if I’m correct, that she was the person who stated that some of the band members of LOG were parked there, at least the bus was. Dad said that no, Morgan’s car was parked in the U-Hall lot, that was my first indication that her vehicle was as close to where she was witnessed by the BBPlayers, as it was. In my head before that was that it was possibly why Morgan was attempting to cross the bridge at all, to get to the garage off IVY, trying to go at least a lighted direction with people present rather than walking down onto the railroad tracks. So that was shot right out of my head when I found that her car was indeed right under her nose in the U-Hall lot.

And if we are talking hypotheticals and the origional driver DC who was inside the arena with the other girls came out to see if he could assist Morgan to at least get into her car, and didn’t want to give the keys directly to her because he felt that she was not in any shape to drive, the least he could have done was to open the car up for her to sit in, and apparently that didn’t happen, and that may have diserved a slap to HIS face.

Plus, if HE was re-admitted into JPJ after leaving and someone has proof positive that happened, or if anyone had left JPJ Arena on Oct 17th 2009 and was allowed to re-enter than JPJ Arena really does have a huge problem with the Harrington’s.

I’ll give ya one more hypothetical, since that doorman has really bothered me, both during my beginning research and also during the episode of Disappeared. Certain things were shown and told on that episode and certain things weren’t. Norma Parson was shown as a witness but grandma wasn’t if I remember correctly, and the doorman was shown as a black male with dred locks. My thinking watching the show was the it just could be they designed people as they wanted them to look or appear as a clue of sorts because this isn’t just a TV show it’s real down and dirty life.

So…what IF DC gave the doorman the keys told him where Morgan’s car was parked and he set off to find that beautiful girl?

I think there is ample evidence someone working security in the front, possibly the door, or upon entrance, is going to have to explain some very uncomfortable inconsistencies.

I do not think DC would have given the keys to a stranger.

    B

  38. Questioner says:

I do not think DC would have given the keys to a stranger.

    B
    ———————–
Then all I can say about the hypothetical is, very interesting indeed. Do we have ANY inkling if DC ever left the JPJ Arena that evening?

I’m also certain that there are still plenty of people who still read here, and even more people who are out there that know if a friend or loved one went to the concert on Oct 17th 2009, might we ask them to weigh in on the possibility of either themselves or others who went outside during the concert and were allowed re-entry? Is it at least possible to get it as fact? I mean we are here for a purpose.

Maybe if it was done anonymously?

I am not in position to discuss the who came and went for obvious reasons, but I can say that some did, and not just on that evening. The fact is Q, this is now a civil legal matter so I suspect those folks have “that” on their minds.

You can imagine the filing of the suit has no doubt lessened the willingness of VSP to provide updates on the case as well.

    B

  39. Questioner says:

I really hate to take up so much room with my thinking, however as long as there is life and breath in me, I’ll be on this like a dog with a bone.

Blink – Did you know this?

I did ask Mr. Pedone about the the re-entry policy, and he referred me to the University’s past statement on the matter. See below. — Dave McNair

University of Virginia Statement on John Paul Jones Arena Re-entry Policy

    October 23, 2009

Exceptions to the re-entry policy are made for urgent matters that are brought to the attention of management by members of our trained staff.

    ——————————–
Tell me WHAT is more urgent than a young woman, alone in the dark, blood on her chin, acting odd, dumping her purse out in front of security, telling him that she has lost her camera, and needs to be allowed re-entry to find it? THEN, when asked if she had a ticket, she tells him that it’s torn up at the bottom of her purse, goes to dump out the contents again and he tells her that won’t do.

I’ll try to shut up now for awhile and let others talk and think.

To the suspect their was nothing more urgent than the opportunity of Morgan’s condition.

To security their was obviously nothing more urgent than denying a woman in that condition re-entry, reasons unknown except for one individual who said he talked to her and wished he had done more to help her.

    I wish he had too.

With regard to Grannies sighting. I recall reading that she saw a girl who looked like Morgan fighting with a guy , their arms were locked and they could have been tugging with something and yes Granny heard a very loud slap. He walked away at one point ,if I remember correctly and then she subsequently followed him.
This has always bothered me, the actual sighting by a grandmother of two people arguing and scuffling, that resembled Morgan IN the lot AT the exact time her phone powered off ON that fateful night.
I pray granny is a witness on hand.
Yes I think that a series of events INSIDE the arena forced Morgan outside, she was told that she would need her ticket to get back in , and tried getting back in immediately to no avail. Where is the ticket she allegedly said was torn up in the bottom of her handbag ? No sign of it in her handbag when it was found later.
God I want this case to be solved yesterday, and feel at times we get SO hot on the trail of what really happened to dear Morgan.

Article headline: Woman witnesses fight the night Virginia Tech student disappears

    The Grandma says this:

” At about 9:30 PM, on October 17, the same time police say Harrington had still been on the arena grounds, the woman pulled into a parking space to pick up her son and grandson from the show. A loud noise startled her.

“The two people were in like a hand lock she had her hands on his arm and he had his hands on her arm pushing back and forth,” said the woman.

She says girl started walking back toward the arena and the young man headed for the road, but ran back to the girl. She says she looked just like Morgan and it appeared the couple knew each other.

“The girl I saw had her hair pulled back and had a large earring on,” said the woman.

At one point, she spoke to them.

“I said don’t be doing something tonight that you’ll be sorry for tomorrow.”

But says the two walked off together toward the road.”

    ==============================================================

This article also says Grandmother gave vague description of man with Morgan, but does not say what it was.

What I am curious about (and I have always thought this is an accurate sighting), is if Morgan and the man headed toward the road–where was this man when Morgan was sighted on the bridge?

Did he go to get his car and then was the one who picked up Morgan from the bridge?

Did they go to party or visit elsewhere, and at some later point, Morgan met her fate at the hands of Sketch?

**Where does argument guy fit into all of this?**

Grandma said: “the two walked off together toward the road.”

    What happened next?

Good Grief ! My head is spinning from all of this ! I “thought” I had a very clear picture, but it seems like I was missing many pieces of the whole one. Still only have about half of the picture , but one with many more possibilities. One of the main facts tonight is of the grandma sighting & reportedly seeing Morgan & a male in a handlock type situation. * I had Assumed that this was Morgan & the “kickee” fellow , but now I see it is not so . This is a different “young” fellow? Has this fellow been interviewed or even Identified ?

  44. alabamamom says:

In the middle of this latest writeup the facts about the restroom as quoted below :
“Morgan asked her friend and roommate Amy Melvin to accompany her to the restroom at approximately 8:20PM.”
“Because of an earlier spat and lingering tension, Amy declined and Morgan left her seat alone.”

*** This all hits HOME with me . It “Used” to be safe inside an arena during a concert to walk to the restroom alone .
My 2 daughters 1 who is 18 & another 3rd yr college student both begged to go to a concert in another city & state. I wanted them as sisters to go together & enjoy something like this. I would have preferred something in this city or only an hour away. Long story short … I told them there was 1 condition & that was they had to listen to & agree to comply with what I was going to tell them .
I told them whatever you do , stay together , side by side . After you get to your seats , stay there, unless 1 of you has to go to the restroom . What Ever you do DO NOT Go to The RESTROOM ALONE ! It’s not safe ! They both looked at me & the youngest said to me “Mom , what do you think we are STUPID or something?” “Everybody knows you NEVER go to a restroom alone at a concert ”
They have sworn to me they would stay together like glue , & would go with one another to the restroom .
Still , I am worried. It’s a crazy dangerous place out there today.

    THE BUDDY SYSTEM!

Eliminating the opportunity for a crime which will only occur if one is alone is the only sure fire deterrent I am aware of. When I was traveling last month, I watched a small girl around 4 years old leave the table and use an outside restroom that was out of her parents view in about 8 steps and in the pathway of just about any person staying there, about 25 yards away. Their other small daughter was walking around the adult pool dipping her toes in, she was either a twin or a year younger, much too young to swim should she fall in.

The couple was clearly “of means”. I was sufficiently annoyed and thought them arrogant for not practicing better safety and security.

Later that afternoon, I saw her again, we were swimming in the ocean and she had found a very large live conc, which is endangered. Her Dad had sent her to throw it further into the ocean and she was just a wee thing, so she asked me if I would help her.

I said, first, you have to tell your Dad your met a stranger and is it ok if you talk to me.

She yelled, this lady is a stranger and she said you don’t know her name either so she is a stranger to you too and she won’t help me until you know her name and you say it is ok.

LOL- at the top of her lungs she yells this. Yes, my hubby turned around and started to laugh.

I walked toward her Dad and we all shook hands and introduced ourselves and I said our kids are not little anymore but old habits die hard so I hope it is ok. He was very thankful.

Later that evening, when we went to dinner, out of the corner of my eye, I got a little pat on my shoulder from the little girl and she said my parents said I could come say hi to you on our way out by myself because you are not a stranger.

In a few seconds, the parents and the other 2 kids stopped by to say hello, and the Mom thanked me emphatically and said, I was having a Mommy treatment when my husband took the kids to the beach and when I heard the story of you having my daughter ask my husband to meet you and for permission I was horrified with embarrassment. I thought I had done a good job expressing stranger danger to my little ones.

I told her that I had worked with a consultant that told me the phrase stranger danger is important, but that identifying a stranger as anyone whose name they do not know, as well as asking for parents introduction will protect them for the most part for any ill-intended strangers that may not “look like” strangers to them. It is also a very good practice to introduce using the word Miss or Mister in front of an adults first name to create a level of personal distance.

Until they became teens, both my children called our associates ( not good personal friends of course) Miss “lisa” or Mister “Dave” and upon initial introduction they still will, but at their age they are usually instructed to call them by their first names. Parents of their friends are always Mr. or Mrs. insert last name, without exception. At 42, I still call my friends parents formally.

Her husband chimed in, don’t you feel like you could scare a kid with this, I mean, I believe in kids being kids, and they are never out of our sight anyway. His wife laughed, and said, spoken like a Dad who never has 3 kids together at the mall on his own. She is right, it only takes a second, and I heard you let (insert name) go to the bathroom by herself this morning as well when I went up to change- what were you thinking?

I said, since you brought that up, lol, I am curious how you knew that, because we were sitting in the table behind you, and I did not say a word. She said that her daughter told her the stranger story from the beach that afternoon, and that she told her Daddy that mommy always makes her ask to talk to people and never lets her go to the bathroom by herself, lol.

Dad laughed and said I guess I have much to learn, I thought I was allowing her to be a big girl and teaching independence. I said, so you have Berkely picked out already? We laughed.

I told them that is completely appropriate in a familiar setting ( like the fam fave restaraunt where you can see her from table to door, etc, if your kids are like mine and would go at that age 50x just to be nosey, or as a novelty, than plan your seating accordingly.) But in a setting where you are surrounded by strangers in an unfamiliar place, explain it that way, and walk her to where you can see her, ask her to tell you if there are others in the loo ( if it is more than a one person) and wait outside.

Ideally, when they are both old enough, you want to teach them to go to the bathroom together. We have a boy and a girl so they typically would just wait outside the door for each other. To this day, if we are in a crowded place that is unfamiliar they still do. We taught our son that as a gentlemen he is looking out for his sister. They don’t love it, but they do it

I said, in a whisper, she took 8 steps until she was out of your view, and 2 minutes and 3 seconds before I saw her come around the pool with sis. If I know that, I guarantee you if we were unlucky enough to have some perv in the midst, he would also. I am just a Mom that pays attention to little ones because I miss that age in my own, and an occupational hazard from some of the cases I see.

Why am I giving all of you this winded blinkism?

Because I want you to pass it on, or adopt the practices within if you have not, for the safety of all of our children.

When that little girl walked away from the patio area, I distinctly remember thinking Madeline McCann.

    My satellite went off.

  48. Amy says:

FWIW I think the producers of the tv show about Morgan’s disappearance were very limited about what they were allowed to air.

Why did nobody help? should be the only conclusion, yet in this show what is left is the image of someone walking out of a concert and acting reckless.

Seriously I think someone did offer ‘ help’ and this is the killer. The question is if this person was met inside JPJ or more conveniently way outside of grounds.

Also I wonder if the appt keys were on the car key chain? Giving a keychain with your housekeys on them makes them extra valuable. Another thing never to leave behind

Amy- the producers were not limited in any way. They have full creative control. VSP and anyone participating was also made aware that anything shot is not necessarily usable or used and editing has the final say. They do a pretty good job laying out the story, they are not investigative journalists outside of garden variety fact checking. I can tell you as a point of fact, that I have personally been approached by more than one program, as have the Harrington’s, and have declined them for that reason.

I see no benefit to having anything but pure facts out there in this case at this point.

  50. Dr. Pepper says:

Hi all, I’m still here though very busy and not much to add lately.

Im in a hurry but id like to post my thoughts really quick.

I have said many many times over the past year that I have not been able to rule out in my head the possibility that Morgan’s murderer is/was a student or friend of one.

Yes, the circumstances surrounding Morgan being denied re-entry…has security involvement written all over it.

And as I began this post to share my thoughts on why another scenario is possible, Ive had more things pop in my mind about security!!

If someone on JPJ or RMC staff was involved- what is hindering LE from connecting the dots?
    -failure to re-interview witnesses?
-not having a warrant to obtain DNA sample?
——-> is it illegal for them to obtain it off of a cigerette butt? Confuses me.

Basically- if security is involved- shouldn’t they have their POI list narrowed a tad?

    — back to original intention of this post:
If security was involved & LE is diligently working the case-
I can’t for the Life of me understand why an arrest hasn’t been made.

This did happen on a college campus.
The perps DNA is not in CODIS
The perp must be familiar with AF.

Who would Not be in the system? A juvenile

A student who spent time around AF growing up.

We have been suspicious of the BB players, the kids who lived in the house with the fire & a few other underagers…
But why have we not even pondered a student being the person who did this?

Until LE makes an arrest, I will not stop thinking this is a possibility.

Additionally, I still remain to be convinced that the person portrayed in the sketch is the person who murdered MORGan.
This could be because the sketch looks nothing like him, or his DNA was not found in a manner suggesting he killed her. From Dissappeard “we know MOrgan came into contact with him sometime the night before she died”

I believe that her debit card was used that night and could be the reason why they feel she must have gotten a ride away from the concert.

And the tshirt— I believe it was both
    1. It was a taunt
    2. It was also an attempt to send LE in another direction with search
. What else could it be?

WHO would be bold enough to do so? Who would be arrogant enough to leave it there?
    A prick college student.

Guys, we can go round and round beating our heads against the security wall…but I am patiently waiting on someone to tell me explicitly WHY a student angle shouldn’t be examined.

Cross reference enrollment lists of schools in AF area w/ those enrolled in UVA in 09.

Do any UVA big wigs live around AF?
Have kids in college at UVA?
Do any high ranking officials with connections have college kids?
Do any live in the AF area? Or have they in the past?

When push comes to shove, parents protect their kids. Parents who have channels to be in the know…allowing them to be one step in front of the investigation?

What prominent/powerful members of the community have or do live in that area??????
Do they have kids in college at UVA?

    Thoughts please please please
