Dr. Phil Show Hosts Missing Portland Child Kyron Horman’s Step Mom Terri Horman Over Two Episodes

I have been covering this case since Kyron Horman disappeared from Skyline School in June, 2010.    Like most missing persons cases I have covered in the past,  I am of the strong opinion that best efforts at the truth are the only way to propel investigations that, similarly to Kyron’s, have gone cold for one reason or another.   This approach has worked in resolving some of my previous cases.    I am proud of that.  I remain steadfast to the integrity involved in those and future cases.

Over the past 10 months (or so) I have been developing an updated series on Kyron’s case to include my multiple interviews with Kyron’s step-mom,  Terri Horman.   Needless to say as she was the subject of at least three simultaneous cases before an Oregon court and remains a person of interest by the agency investigating her sons disappearance, this has been an arduous and sometimes delicate journey.    Ms. Horman’s experiences during the ongoing investigation of the disappearance of Kyron Horman are critically important to propelling his case and with great hope- finding the truth about what happened to this cherubic and innocent child.    There are dozens of sources,  collateral interviews, forensic experts and legal analysts that also contribute to my series and have done so because of their belief that my motivation is to bring to light information and opinions in such a way that would almost “require” a focused review of Kyron’s case and the likely shaking of that proverbial tree everyone talks about.

Set to publish about 6-ish weeks ago I was asked to postpone the first installment of the series, which I did.  I subsequently learned Ms. Horman was participating in the Dr. Phil program after she completed taping.  Dr. Phils producers were well aware that Ms. Horman had interviewed with me extensively, and anticipated my series would be publishing information that was not known to the public previously in the days prior to her scheduled episode.    When Ms. Horman conveyed to me that she feels obligated to speak out about “her son” in any national medium that will have her,   I most certainly respected that.  I still do.

While Dr. Phil seems like a gregarious fellow for sure,   I have zero interest in being associated with his program, nor do I believe his shows content is designed to do any furtherance of investigation or truth.  There is much concern (although I have no affiliation to the show whatsoever) that the timing of the publication of my series on the Kyron Horman matter might be interpreted differently or inadvertently contribute to the programs content or audience reactions.     Not what I signed on for.   A missing 7 year old boy six years running is not a framework for entertaining a target audience.   He is not fodder for online social media bully campaigns- yet it occurs.

I will be publishing my series on Kyron’s case at a later date, in it’s entirety with no editing adjustments as a result of any of the appearances on Dr. Phil.   I appreciate your patience and your understanding.   Feel free to discuss the show below.

If you would not mind- if you run across a link to the investigative report itself, I would be very interested in reading that. Drives me bonkers to see reporters ref snippets of something like that without including the actual documented source.
What I can’t figure out is why nobody is crying foul over the Union rule about “purging” as in Whitehurst, among others, this resulted in its ability to follow public policy wrt “information pertaining to matters of public safety”.

I have always thought the reasons that the bio parents did not bring a tort case against the school was the interference by Tony and the possibility of discovery in a tort case finding something criminal in Kane’s behavior regarding illegal drug activity.

I agree to that from Kaine’s perspective and frankly, that is supported by the record in the dissolution case. You would be surprised how many investigators are not “attune” to the records in peripheral cases, however. I guess I mean as they involve exculpatory evidence of their targeted suspect. Yes, you detect a hint of sarcasm.

Imo, and it calls for some speculation on my part, the reason that DY did not target Skyline School as a defendant in her short-lived civil case against Terri is because doing so would technically have given Terri “standing” for a cross complaint against the school she would not have had otherwise. I do not have any doubt in my mind that suit would have been successful because there was and is overwhelming direct witness evidence that Kyron disappeared while in the school’s care, and he did not leave with Terri Horman. So, technically with no criminal action (solicitation or attempted solicitation, no tie whatsoever to date between the identity of the person Kyron left with ergo no connection to TH) pending and confirmation from the school itself, Terri becomes an injured party of the school herself- as we can all agree he was dropped off- and he was never even marked absent. Same tracks if Kaine sued the school AND Terri, but my guess is, had he sued Skyline THEY would have named Terri as a cross claim or third party defendant, inviting counter claim status from her and once again she is subject to standing as an injured party. In simple terms, that action brings a factual account of the events of June 3rd and June 4th, confirmation from the school themselves (and likely everywhere TH was on CCTV) that Kyron did not leave with Terri, and that he was last seen leaving Matthews classroom with an unidentified male.

It has never ceased to amaze me the amount of hubris that really goes into anyone that truly has the “takeaway” that any evidence outside of exculpatory exists that Kyron left with Terri- because the burden of proof for a civil case is substantially lower than a criminal one and NOBODY continued a civil action against Terri or filed one against Skyline because they absolutely knew it would exonerate her civilly, likely result in a substantial award for her as well as them and anything in the civil case is subject to discovery in a criminal matter. It is why so frequently some seek civil remedy “in lieu of” a lagging criminal case.

Lastly- if one truly believes your 7 year old child is being held against his will for 8 years by a still unidentified individual that no tie to Terri Horman has ever surfaced to date- wth do you care about what effect any of this would have if it was your best shot at locating your child (per your publicly stated beliefs)?

Crews launch massive search near Ellensburg in Lindsey Baum case

ELLENSBURG, Wash, — A massive search involving agencies from three states took place Saturday 20 miles west of Ellensburg in the the case of Lindsey Baum, the Grays Harbor 10-year-old who went missing in 2009.

This week, the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office said Baum’s remains had been found and later identified in a remote location in Eastern Washington frequented by hunters.

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Saturday that the remains were found in Kittitas County.

Officials said they hoped the location of where her remains were found could provide new evidence in the case.

There had been an initial search after the remains were found last fall before the first snowfall, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said. On Saturday, the search resumed since the snow had melted.

There were 29 dog teams, as well as investigators and search and rescue crews from three counties. Dog teams came from nine Washington counties and one from Idaho, the Kittitas Sheriff’s Office said. There were tracking teams from King County, Idaho and Montana.

    (snipped)

What is there to say really? I did confirm through a source that her remains were sent to the FBI lab to confirm they were Lindsey Baum’s and that was recent. I can’t speak to what went on between the time of her recovery and her identification, though. I would like to know those facts as they will be critical in a chain of custody status as well.

So it hits the news and THEN we have nearly 30 search teams on the ground. Will be interesting to see who keeps jurisdiction.

    True.
In fairness, the comparatives should be conducted by members of the FBI BAU or someone similarly trained ( I am, full disclosure) and framed in context of current case details- and I am not sure this doesnt take us right back to untrained folks not even trained in how to use any of that information for profile/investigative leads.

Yes. mcso should have compiled a doc of all males known to have contact w/Kyron leading up to his disappearance for 3-6 months in all his environs, AND all males who crossed his path in the school whether or not the contact was direct. An ex of “in the environs” would be say a Dale Golder who worked at the retirement home on her frequent street path & who’d hooked up w/an old Ellensburg friend by text on the relevant date & who inserted into the investigation. He was more likely than not crossing paths with her on that street.
Who crossed paths w/Kyron in the school? I hope mcso included the young men who worked Solar4Schools classroom & school ed & as site project consultants in 2009-10 when that program was small. Have never refound the 2009 personnel & pics of those site employees again. My memory is they were then male, single, & mostly OR college grads in the prior decade, or a few years back. I respectfully disagree it is hubris.
And I think the goal is NOT Finding a live Kyron.
The minute that happened, donations would stop to Kaine’s
    Foundation & Desiree’s gofundme, the Baum mother’s
    post mortem gofundme venture notwithstanding.

What is it then behind both bios’ determination to conceal
all evidence is exculpatory of Terri & none is inculpatory?
You are right about the suits. Neither bio could sue PPS
bcz PPS would bring in Terri allowing her to cross claim.
One motive is money. $34,500 looks pretty good.
And BFH Fdtn rakes it in regardless of expenditure strictures.
More than money, I think it is public attention. Both bios’ erroneously equate attention
to some sort of positive social status I doubt either enjoyed over
    their lives.
But bottom line is both seem animated by abject hatred of Terri, & whether or not
all evidence exculpates, they are determined the public see her as guilty.
Desiree virtually wills it so. She puts her flat accusation in her continuing fundraising pleas
& in her surrogate’s social media.

My question regarding all these search dogs and teams is, since they’ve already recovered Lindsey’s remains a year ago, and it’s doubtful they have a scent of the perps clothing or whatever. What are they looking for? My guess, is they are looking for other remains. Something about the way they found Lindsey’s remains must have told them this is not the first time this perp offended, dontcha think? Do they think this area is a child serial killer’s boneyard? And I wonder why only WA, ID & MT…..not OR search teams. Wonder if there are similarities to some case in ID and MT? IDK its all curious, but whatever they find I hope it leads to solving Lindsey’s murder, and the perp’s ID and end!

My assumption is they found only very small amount of remains (similar to Celis) and these were likely headed by an anthropology team, likely for the first time. This is proper. They also likely have a ping study or are conducting one from the data available at the time of her disappearance, etc. Unfortunately in a wild/woods situation in that area local animal predation can play a major role in what a team can recover and how far away from a dump site or possible murder scene. I don’t think they are doing anything but what should have been done YEARS ago if they had a suspect tracked to that area in the first place, but definitely as remains were found there.
    B

  17. Rose says:

They had a primary suspect way back & he was known to be in contact w/someone in that area, so if they didn’t get his cell pings via fbi capabilities, they are fools. Interestingly the fbi field office referred Qs to the Sheriff last weekend, but the sheriff’s office closes for weekends. imo the field office was making a capabilities point.

And no PIO. The FBI will not comment on a pending matter they do not have jurisdiction in. It is my understanding the current policy only allows confirmation of “assistance” if it exists and if it is ongoing (generally).

Imo that was a controlling statement. of Tony.

  19. Rose says:

you stimulated my thinking cd. Thinking thru those relationships, McCullough was kinda countercultural (cf his music poster collection of the day). So why would he divorce a relatively new mother (when he had a very high tolerance for “difference” per his band enthusiasms), & get custody no less? Must’ve been something there motivating him & a judge. Then why would Kaine marry her (not pregnant at the time), yet dump her in early pregnancy? Maybe she’d enlisted him to get custody of Quinn, & when that failed, he had no reason to stay. She rolled on rather rapidly post birth to the man with problems who took her to the Canadian border. Whatever, she got treatment for something & went home eventually to Medford. 2 baby boys didn’t achieve getting her feet on the ground—she’d left them to go north. what did? then, What did Man 4 (Tony) know about her marital history? Why did he ignore it? In Man 4 case, a boy disappeared before a divorce could happen.

  20. T. Ruth says:

Ahhh, I didn’t realize they had only found partial remains. One would think they would have said that in the reports but yes, if that was the case, then that would explain the search dogs.

    ***************
Why not? And will that be done? Who are they? And where are those various other “educators” now? Working in another school district, state? FTLOG!

  22. T. Ruth says:

Ya know, being as Norm Frink worked personally on Kyron’s case, one would think that with this newly acquired information on how lax the school district was that he would maybe get his retired butt over to the cold case squad and suggest that perhaps Kyron’s case be reviewed form an entirely different perspective. Probably too busy consulting.

Unfortunately as he was involved in the initial grand jury, and should this case ever see the inside of a courtroom it would not surprise me if he landed as a witness in some manner, I doubt highly Norm Frink would ever voluntarily work on Kyron’s case in any official capacity. Frink has also been on inactive status with the OBS and therefore is not licensed to practice law any longer.
I remain interested in why that is- it is unusual to say the least.

Yup, what I would call a “blind sweep”. It actually works a lot of the time- it was how they actually captured Austin Sigg (as one example). He confessed prior to the return of the “match”, but the fact that it was pending and he knew the outcome were the primary reasons he “broke”.

I want to underscore a point here- Washburn WAS in the file, several contacts and several interviews. He is the reason they located the remains. This is CLASSIC offender post offense behavior of a particular offender profile that would have been the equivalent of a red blinking neon sign (you recall myA ref to Bettlejuice mini house). Had this case been reviewed by anyone trained by BAU/BSU resources it would have catapulted Washburn to the top of the priority list. It is just a fact.

I said it before and I will say it again. Whatever happened to Kyron and who is responsible lies within the witnesses and occurrences at Skyline elementary on June 4th. Ground Zero.

Oregon Man Found Guilty of Sexually Abusing Children at Orphanage in Cambodia

EUGENE, Ore. – A federal jury found Daniel Stephen Johnson, 40, of Coos Bay, Oregon, guilty today of repeatedly sexually abusing children who lived at an orphanage operated by the defendant in Cambodia. The verdict marks the end of the second foreign sexual exploitation trial held in the District of Oregon.

Johnson was convicted on six counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place and one count each of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and aggravated sexual assault with children.

“The despicable nature of this defendant’s conduct is beyond understanding. Whether you are abusing children in this country or abroad, you will be pursued and held accountable in a court of law,” said Billy J. Williams, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon. “The fact that this defendant abused children under the guise of being a missionary and orphanage operator is appalling.”

Both parents died of Aids, and she has developed some symptoms…well, I’ll just post what Daniel said. His heart is just huge for these kids. I remember hearing when he was working at the sawmill with my son in law, got saved gloriously, and immediately the Lord sent him to Cambodia. At first he had no affiliation, just went following the Holy Spirit.

After taking her to the clinic today and having some lanced, they insist she go to the children’s hospital tomorrow for fear of Ball T.B., a commonly associated illness with HIV infected children. PLEASE PRAY!!! I’m at a loss for further words.

second post(this morning): Phnom Penh, Cambodia: 5 year old Veasna will be at the children’s hospital from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. Friday local time. Pacific Time 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday. My heart is huting for her. No matter the problem, she really needs DIVINE healing. Please post this on your wall and ask your Church, family and friends to pray for Veasna. One of the things that has always stayed with me was that although Kyron had given his oral presentation on the 3rd, and very clearly Terri did not learn of this until the morning of the 4th- according to all accounts and sources of mine- he never relayed that information to anyone specifically. It may be absolutely nothing- in fact, it would be inline with some previous observations in behavior, but as I listened to Kaine’s version about his “goodbye” to Kyron that morning (4th) and that he told him not be nervous he would be great, etc, I have always wondered why Kyron allegedly did not correct him that he already gave his individual presentation on the red tree frog. No disclosure of that or the talent show. My point- if what Kaine says is true about the last conversation he had with his son- Kyron did not let him off the “guilt” hook by saying “no worries dad” the hard part is over.

about kyron not telling kaine he’d already presented, or about the talent show, my opinion based on public information has always been everyone in the house was afraid of kaine due to his demanding his authoritarianism and temper. Usually in a home with a hair trigger temper parent, kids don’t volunteer anything as it might trigger. just like Terri didn’t tell him about the yard crew or window washer.

Possible, but he never told TH either. Boys at that age (and girls, I am just discussing Kyron here) are not usually in tune with those details as I recall from Blink Jr, so on its own I can’t say it has any investigative value from a victimology standpoint, however, in context it does seem to support the “picture” painted by all of his parents re their concern that something was “up” with his demeanor/behavior.

I think that if the goal is to keep kids safe (students)- then what is the plan to investigate any allegations or inappropriate disciplinary tracts that were learned as a result of the Whitehurst review? Isn’t doing nothing repeating this travesty all over again?

Lastly- am I the only one who’s head spins 360 degrees when I see initiatives like teacher union reform and/or student safety and the one kid who went missing under a duty of care from a school in this jurisdiction does not so much as get a mention?

One of the things that has always stayed with me was that although Kyron had given his oral presentation on the 3rd, and very clearly Terri did not learn of this until the morning of the 4th- according to all accounts and sources of mine- he never relayed that information to anyone specifically.

That is so confusing. So Kyron gives his oral presentation on the 3rd( with/without his project being at the school). Then he goes home and never mentions to Kaine or Terri that he gave his oral presentation. Did he give his presentation in front of the class during school hours(thats what it sounds like). But then didn’t we hear that there were some parents at the school on the 3rd after school hours that had something to do with the science fair projects. Do we know that Terri took the truck on the 4th to the school to bring the tree frog presentation home and not to deliver the project to the school.

Presentation (trifold) dropped off on 6/3 and given on 6/3- TH learned this morning of 6/4. Kaine mentions this (or alludes) at some point when he says “she was supposed to stay there with him” or words to that effect. I doubt even he realized at that time that the presentation was actually completed on 6/3- but I don’t know.

TH took the truck to school on 6/4 because she was under the impression that the trifold had to be picked up that day, and as I recall was encouraging Kyron to take it with him to DY visit that weekend to show her. After she learned on 6/4 that the presentations were already given 6/3 (no notice) this is when she returns home (circa 1:20pm) and emails Porter about whether or not it needed to be picked up that day- she never got a response.

Reminder- this was an “IB” event- there were things that were scheduled to occur that day as the event started, AND every parent I spoke to was ALSO told that the presentations were going to occur on 6/4. Porter’s class presentations being held on 6/3 was an impromptu decision on her part- that was not uncommon. The bridge project we all saw Kyron present was also supposed to occur the following day- the only reason TH was able to video that was because she sent a similar email re the project and had about 15 minutes notice in response to gather Kiara and get to the school to see it. My point- another opportunity to notice Kyron’s absence on Porter’s part that was missed and could not have been part of anyone’s “planning” process as it was unforeseen and out of anyone but Porter’s control.

B I have wondered about those 2 things also, and people still say why didn’t Terri go to the talent show when Kyron didn’t tell her he was going to be in it!

Correct. I have seen both Kaine and DY interviewed on that question and neither of them were aware as well.

unawareness of Terri & bios of talent show
    attests to Porter’s miserable communication
deficits which were not hearing related but
    attention & language related.

maybe some Oregonian will bring this to Buehl’s attention.
    The bios sure won’t.

Blink’s comment from May 18: “TH took the truck to school on 6/4 because she was under the impression that the trifold had to be picked up that day, and as I recall was encouraging Kyron to take it with him to DY visit that weekend to show her. This makes me wonder if she was encouraging Kyron to take the trifold to show DY and she was already under the impression that it needed to be picked up, why didn’t she just go pick it up instead of emailing the teacher?

If the oral report schedule changed it is my understanding that she was no longer sure if they “could” or “should” be picked up that day, so she sent an email to Porter asking same- she did not reply. It was a mob scene there earlier and I suppose the thought of heading back to that (Kaine is now home).

about your “ student safety and the one kid who went missing under a duty of care from a school in this jurisdiction does not so much as get a mention? B””
I had a well-duh moment! Desiree & Kaine have so thoroughly convinced the public, including Buehler & Brown in any conversation about school safety, that his wicked stepmother walked him out of the school to his fate at her hands, and no school however safe could have prevented her wicked ways, that PPS most decidedly had no violation of duty of care and the abduction does NOT implicate school safety.

You know what is worse? No one in Oregon or Washington was EVER told to look out for the man who abducted him or given a thumbnail description, or even told a man abducted him! In my opinion the Baum public-assistance ballgame was over after the first 1-2 weeks, & the trail was cold. Thanks to mcso & the two bios, Kyron never had a chance to have his captor’s apprehension assisted by the public.

If I were Desiree I’d want to know when mcso learned of Mathew’s & the room witnesses recounting of the man—-what was the time gap between when mcso knew & I was told? And why was the public not immediately told? Then I’d sue their sorry selves and ask the case be transferred to the fbi forthwith.

Had Kaine ever met or did he know Ms. Porter or for that matter any of Kyron’s teachers? He seems to hold Ms. Porter blameless for Kyron’s disappearance. Her inattention and excuses for Kyron’s absence that day were the single greatest contribution to Kyron disappearing without a trace for the last 8 years whether or not Kaine believes Terri had anything to do with it.

Kaine does not seem to be a stupid person so he must have realized that Ms Porter actions/inaction were key in Kyron’s disappearance. So why does Porter and the school get a pass. I wonder what transpired that caused the press and the Bio’s to never mention any possibility that the school may have been negligent in protecting Kyron regardless of who took him.

Kaine was present and/or in receipt of the womans deposition.
Yes, he had accompanied TH on parent teacher conferences previously-

who knows what it’s all about but Terri appears to be representing herself while her adversary has the County DV dream attorney, in tight w/Sonoma Cty Sheriff Dept & presumeably County DV judges from having been a detective on same. Whatever’s going on, Lomanto will bury her imo. https://www.avvo.com/attorneys/95401-ca-christopher-lomanto-1755157.html
