Dr. Phil Show Hosts Missing Portland Child Kyron Horman’s Step Mom Terri Horman Over Two Episodes

I have been covering this case since Kyron Horman disappeared from Skyline School in June, 2010.    Like most missing persons cases I have covered in the past,  I am of the strong opinion that best efforts at the truth are the only way to propel investigations that, similarly to Kyron’s, have gone cold for one reason or another.   This approach has worked in resolving some of my previous cases.    I am proud of that.  I remain steadfast to the integrity involved in those and future cases.

Over the past 10 months (or so) I have been developing an updated series on Kyron’s case to include my multiple interviews with Kyron’s step-mom,  Terri Horman.   Needless to say as she was the subject of at least three simultaneous cases before an Oregon court and remains a person of interest by the agency investigating her sons disappearance, this has been an arduous and sometimes delicate journey.    Ms. Horman’s experiences during the ongoing investigation of the disappearance of Kyron Horman are critically important to propelling his case and with great hope- finding the truth about what happened to this cherubic and innocent child.    There are dozens of sources,  collateral interviews, forensic experts and legal analysts that also contribute to my series and have done so because of their belief that my motivation is to bring to light information and opinions in such a way that would almost “require” a focused review of Kyron’s case and the likely shaking of that proverbial tree everyone talks about.

Set to publish about 6-ish weeks ago I was asked to postpone the first installment of the series, which I did.  I subsequently learned Ms. Horman was participating in the Dr. Phil program after she completed taping.  Dr. Phils producers were well aware that Ms. Horman had interviewed with me extensively, and anticipated my series would be publishing information that was not known to the public previously in the days prior to her scheduled episode.    When Ms. Horman conveyed to me that she feels obligated to speak out about “her son” in any national medium that will have her,   I most certainly respected that.  I still do.

While Dr. Phil seems like a gregarious fellow for sure,   I have zero interest in being associated with his program, nor do I believe his shows content is designed to do any furtherance of investigation or truth.  There is much concern (although I have no affiliation to the show whatsoever) that the timing of the publication of my series on the Kyron Horman matter might be interpreted differently or inadvertently contribute to the programs content or audience reactions.     Not what I signed on for.   A missing 7 year old boy six years running is not a framework for entertaining a target audience.   He is not fodder for online social media bully campaigns- yet it occurs.

I will be publishing my series on Kyron’s case at a later date, in it’s entirety with no editing adjustments as a result of any of the appearances on Dr. Phil.   I appreciate your patience and your understanding.   Feel free to discuss the show below.

Divorced in June 1970 (she filed.), marries Donald Emery July 1970? The divorce from Eddy shows 2 kids were in that marriage. Good grief, did she have custody?

She is not missing and her name is actually Sondra. The 2 kids were prior to the Emery marriage. I located her where she remarried in 1977 (apparently divorced again at some point) and she is now deceased. Had a total of 3 dau’s and a son at the time of her death but I do not believe any of them are an “Emery”.

I see on the Justice for Kyron gofundme page it says they have raised some $33K. Has anyone ever seen anyone post there and ask why they do not hire a private investigator with that money? Seriously, seven years gone by and they say the money is for upcoming searches? They don’t have a clue where to hold a search and that money has nothing to do with any search that LE may have on its agenda.
    ————-
The $33k is the amount of money they have collected so far on the Gofundme page The amount displayed on the page is not how much the donees currently have. DY/KR have probably have spent most of it on private searches, paying everyones gas etc for car washes, supplies for chalk and stalk some of it probably went of the Kyron’s billboard. I don’t know if they reimburse SG for the cost of any of her activities.

Since it seems that there are not going to be any more private searches, DY does not need to pay monies to fund MCSO searches and the tort suit is long gone. So why are KR and DY still asking for donations? Do they pay part of Kyles travel expenses when he stalks TH?

DY/KR can spend the money they collect on the Gofundme site any way they want because the monies people send them are a gift.

It says “Justice for Kyron Horman!” what does that mean monetarily. Are they going to start paying off people to say stuff about TH to try to make it seem like she is breaking the law. Maybe DY/KR want to hire a Private detective to follow TH around and try to get something on her or trick her into saying/ doing something that they could use against her..

TH needs to be vary careful about anyone who seems interested in getting to know her or if she notices that she is being followed.

  9. A Texas Grandfather says:

The entire management of people at the Science Fair was flawed. Allowing children to be only with the parents and not under the direct supervision of a teacher or administrator produced the chaos that allowed the perp to abduct Kyron.

All students should have been made to report to their home class room along with a parent before making a tour of the exhibits. All adults that were not parents or teachers should have been excluded.

This IMO lies directly on the irresponsibility or the school administration or we could say the ignorance of those people. Some people including teachers and administrators are not capable of self-teaching because they lack common sense.

Common sense is the result of knowledge and experience that begins when a youth is made to be responsible for their own acts and behavior. Our current social behaviors do not make this happen except for the few who have parents that demand that type of behavior.

  10. T. Ruth says:

TMH was not present then, but yes, I was able to confirm Kyron was not put in a group (as you framed).

    *********
Perhaps I didn’t ask the question correctly. I wanted to know if he was “assigned” to be in one. As in, was he on a list to be in the group little TP is giving us an account of? I am wondering if TP’s account is accurate. As you say Kyron was never physically put into a group, or under the referenced chaperone’s supervision, then in order for TP’s account to be accurate, he must have been on some sort of list she/he had in her possession. If, that is the case, why on earth didn’t she realize he wasn’t there in the first place, when they left the classroom to begin the tours? Why would she not realize he was missing until they returned to the classroom? Or is TP’s recollection just wrong?

No list, each class had a number of chaperones (parents or guardians) and the kids were grouped at around 10 am in each class to tour the science fair throughout the school.

I had the assumption that the grouping and touring started after the second bell rang. This is a game changer for me. Where was Kyron from 8:30 – when he was abducted? Obviously he made it to Matthews room. So basically after TH left he went rouge for a good half hour maybe even an hour. Rose is right, why didn’t Matthews ask, where is your group, but if the groups weren’t formed until 10, then she had to assume he was with a parent or someone who brought him. What were the kids doing in their classrooms for an hour and a half before the tours started, and why wasn’t it odd that kids were wandering the exhibits when they should have been in class. More dysfunctional than I originally thought.

    B

I think the timeline is T left about 8:45 and that is after the first bell which rang when the trio was in a different class together and than they raced each other up the steps, Kyron turned down towards his classroom and waved, she and Kitty waved and turned back to go down the steps again. (as an aside from an interviewing perspective I want to make this point- it is my experience when interviewing untruthful people OR people that are aware that they are either not believed, or are being browbeaten with the “tell us what we want to hear” routine, this would be something I would expect to see “change”. What I am trying to articulate in my response is that WAAAAAYYY before I ever had independent confirmations of Terri’s account from that morning, I saw her adamamance to her version of events where she admits she never actually SAW Kyron enter his classroom but waved and turned to leave as something a truthful person would say because they were never trying to be concerned with the perceptions of responsibility behind it, and more importantly at the time, SHE DID NOT KNOW that Kyron was actually back in Porters class. That is critically important to any seasoned interviewer assessing that aspect of an interview in context.

Under the kind of intentional stress this woman was put in during interrogations (that in at least one occurrence lasted over 10 hours) where she is being called a liar and being threatened with every conceivable thing, the critical aspects (again from an analyst perspective) have never changed.

It was pretty chaotic until around 10am I have been told repeatedly.

  14. A Texas Grandfather says:

The sexual assault case by the 16 year old took place off campus. The female was drugged with Xanax, a dangerous drug when combined with alcohol or other drugs.

This is why all youths beyond the age of 12 should be charged as an adult. The charges should have included the use of a dangerous prescription drug to the victim. It should have been a mid-level felony and the perp given a minimum of five years with at least three in a correction facility.

Another example of lack of responsibility for this act. The courts should not be allowing such a plea as this youth was given. This means the DA needs to do their job and quit their foolish behavior.

  15. Rose says:

ot Baum does not fit Donald’s MO at all He groomed & cuktivated one young girl thru gifts & race car sponsorship & traveled with her family. He told a neighbor he’s sponsored agrandaughter. He needed to feel a longer term “famiky” relationship and engaged in grooming. He is most like Sandusky imo…picking somelne who shared his interests, in his case speedways. These men seemed to be secluded pedophils with a preference for relatives and consumers of porn with fetishes. I doubt they did actual killings or those female relatives would be dead.

To a large extent what you are referencing as profile info may be true. It is true that certain pedophile subtypes can lure/groom exclusively within known fam or similar subjects and they do not move outside of those opportunities to directly offend- AND it CAN be true that those subtypes (together or independent) fantasize about the stranger, abduction and violence aspects as indicated from what was found in the home- never actually “act out” toward such an offense directly. However, if it is true that some or all of them went out of their way to approach strangers (evidence they asked stranger parents to photograph kids publicly) and say, if it is found that they may have acted externally on any of the cases they kept articles of, etc, than I am going to say I am doubtful all 3-4 brothers offended within the same profile- now THAT would be a first of its kind that I am aware of. One thing I will say about this kind of deviant with multiple paraphilias that are aroused by sexual violence over this many years, to include ages where they are well past the generally accepted ages of “aging out”- I highly doubt there will be any surprises in the offense patterns once they are truly “known”. That takes significant time and the proper analyst, (def an FBI BAU matter to start). I doubt there will be any ambiguity as to what the ultimate crimes of these brothers were/are. These freaks do not change their motivations or compulsions and the bottom line is that they will seek to satiate them to any extent they can.

    1) WHERE & WTF was each student supposed to be after reporting to class at the second bell (8:50) until 10 am when “tour groups” formed & departed their rooms? (I guess Mathews’ Q shoukd’ve been why aren’t you in yr room then asked the parent of one of her students 2 escort him.)
    2) Iirc Porter was “in charge” of the Fair, so she was probably a wandering lost soul in the bldg until 10.
Did she have a substitute (perhaps the para?) covering for her classroom from 8:50-10? If so that’s who I’d ask if Kyron physicalky entered his classroom at 8:50, found chaos, & left.
    3) Did Kyron physically enter the classroom at 8:50 before going back downstairs?
It woukd’ve been better for Terri and maybe kyron if she’d said screw you to the bios and let him ride the bus every day to and from school and Kaine shoukd’ve trucked the trifold over. Her mistake was letting bios off the hook for every parenting chore. She must really have loved the lad who was in effect otherwise motherless.

Yes, Kyron went back to Porters class where he was headed when they waved goodbye. She testified to same during her deposition.

Now I’m more confused than ever about Kyron’s timeline. I was under the impression that the groups were formed around 9ish and they got back to their “home rooms” at 10 a.m. where roll was (supposed to be) taken.

Also if there was no list of kids for which group, and further, Kyron was never put into a group physically, then TP’s account must be made up. Why he would do that IDK, but if he made that up, then his account of witnessing TMH leave sans Kyron, could also be made up.

I’m with erose, where in the heck were all the kids between 9 and 10 am, then? Running around the school hither-tither?

Blink, are you saying Kyron was seen in his own classroom at some point after TMH left the building, i.e., after 8:45?

    Yes ma’am.

So When Porter was told Kyron was missing from a group instead of looking for him she told people he was probably getting a drink of water or in the bathroom no need to worry.

Then Porter fails to notify anyone when Kyron is missing after class has started(6 hrs).

When the students in the classroom ask where Kyron is Porter invents an excuse that he left with him mom for a DR’s appt.

  23. oldladysmith says:

What is in those awful e-mails that Terri sent to someone that Desiree mentioned to Dr Phil for one.

Well, you will notice she has never said specifically, and apparently Kaine did not agree with her interpretation of them, and went as far as to say that things she was referring to had never happened(indicating his doubt such an email existed without calling her out). I have not heard her mention them since that show as well.

  24. Rose says:

So since Porter testified he entered the classroom before or at Bell 2, surely the next question to her was where was he supposed to be between 8:50-9, and between 9-10? Maybe she’d say math class, or maybe my little birds were wild and free. So the follow up was: AND WHY WEREN’T you alarmed when he did not return at 10 because you did not put him into a group?

  25. Rose says:

That depo statement that kyron entered her classroom at 8:50 puts Terri off the hook and the school on it right there. if kaine wanted to find kyron he’d have sued pps, porter, & mathew and used the proceeds to put kiara thru Underhill’s family’s NW Academy or thru Caitlin Gabel.

There is absolutely no question whatsoever that Kyron went missing on their watch. Fwiw, Kaine certainly had access to Porters deposition if he was not actually present for it and Porter admitted same. As I recall, this occurs following DY dropping her suit. They knew then and they know now. They may feel TMH orchestrated this in some manner “all day” but they know he did not leave Skyline with Terri.

  28. A Texas Grandfather says:

The morning time line appears to be one that is nowhere near standard.

Start time of normal classes should have been no later than 8:30 A.M. We have information about people with children arriving as late as 8:50 with the tours beginning an hour later.

Is there any evidence that MCSO ever put together a time line of the events of the day including what the teachers and students were doing in increments of ten to fifteen minutes? Some of Kyron’s classmates could have been helpful in constructing such a tool.

I am told yes, but I have no faith in its accuracy based on witnesses I have interviewed. I have been told that MCSO actually went back to some and told a witness or witnesses that they were wrong because “so and so says they saw such and such, which agreed with you know who and whatshername” and they adjusted their timelines as a result. That’s definitely NOT how to build an independent timeline- and then you have the Terri flyer distributed and the “isolated incident” status. It is a fair statement that several parents removed their children from that school because they did not believe it.

The TP sub observation coukd’ve been at 10 not 11.

Then I have another important event that happened on 09/11/31. Mrs. ATG’s arrival on the planet. We spent a great day together with lunch at her favorite restaurant, accompanied with a dozen red roses and a funny birthday card.

o/t: Happy Belated Birthday to Mrs. ATG. I once wrote about my experience on 9/11 as a cathartic exercise, interesting how now I can’t even read it. I choose to reflect on my beloved Mother, God rest her soul (I have no idea why people say that, I for one, know she is doing everything BUT resting up there) and how the FBI came to visit her because she purchased a Quran on amazon.com. She wanted to “understand” what could possibly be in there to spurn such hatred. What a concept- arming one’s self with knowledge and understanding before jumping to mass conclusion.

While I do not agree with or identify with the teachings of the Quran or some muslim traditions whatsoever, radical islamists use the Quran as a religious based recruiting tool just like any other terrorist organization who preys on the type of people susceptible to radicalization. Its just a different kool aid served to those who feel they are about to perish of thirst.

TRuth, Not getting why you think TP’s version might be made up. After TH waves bye, Kyron enters Porter’s room at about 8:45, then leaves on his own. Sometime before he was abducted he passes TP on the stairs and Kyron says he’s on his way to see the cool electric one. I am thinking TP is either wandering around the school on his own or with classmates or he is with a family member. We know this incident did not occur after 10 am, because Kyron was already missing.

When the kids are back in class at 10 am to be put into groups, which I formerly thought was when they returned, the chaperone wanted to know where Kyron was, and the chaperone said they were leaving, perhaps after assuming Kyron would have been assigned to another group.

100% no funds to go to trial and the petitioner et al was well aware of that. I have never worked on a fam law case where the criminal defense Atty really ran the show. Fwiw, I know Rackner faced the OR bar over it, so there’s that. I don’t disagree that stipulation was likely with the thought process (you can always seek the courts modification if necessary). I think I have said this before and I guess it is probably a true statement to some degree I drew on her experience when researching my Terrorism dissertation- as a Nation we do NOT understand how best to fight terrorism or radical islamists or religious based, oppression based, or simply, psychotic based terrorism for one basic reason nobody is willing to admit… we do not understand and cannot track its true funding sources and means of distribution globally. Simple solution is bitcoin and TOR.

County start times differ. There was not an 8:30 second bell at Skyline.
Portland’s is consistant with my County: first bell 8:40, second bell 8:50.
These differ from HS & MS bells bcz of bus routing.

It was insane to have a publically-advertised science fair without a supervisory instructional plan for students. A free for all hour followed by commencing instruction at 10 was probably influenced by this last hurdle in the school year documentation to qualify as an IB school which became the paramount goal. . The IB Central Coord who attended, Keefer, & the Fair Planner on staff should’ve all been put on Admin Leave while an investigation ensured aboutt their administrative decisions culminating in a severely unsafe environment.

what adult was in charge of and physically present in kyron’s home room from 8:50-10 am?

Porter. I do not have any information from multiple witnesses that she ever left her classroom since about 8:30 (give or take minutes earlier as far as witnesses could confirm) but Terri spoke to her briefly to learn that the kids did their presentations the day before, not this morning as they had been told previously. This occurs in front of Gina Zimmerman.

In my view, this also validates the ensuing email Terri sent to Porter (unanswered) asking whether or not Kyron’s project needed to be picked up that afternoon.

This sounds more like a typical science fair where kids remain with their projects to explain them for about an hour to visitors. Explains TP’s puzzlement on passing K on stairs–he going up likelt to class & K going down. Now I bet and hope hope the depo addressed whether K asked Porter’s permission to go back and see the cool electric one after the bell. I bet he did. Be interesting to have photos from K’s room visitors between 8:50 to 9:30 (later than Terri’s). SZ might’ve been in one.

I am quite certain that your dear mother is not sitting in a dinning room sipping tea. It is my belief that the route to find the “Father of of All” is loaded with work and learning. She is on her second leg of the journey.

I have a translated copy of the Koran on my computer. Even with the possible mistakes in the translation, it has to be one of the most ugly pieces of literature I have ever read. It is the very antithesis of the christian view to learn to love and respect all. It spews hate and destruction from the very beginning to the end.

  38. Rose says:

it is really into the pathological denial sphere that his parents do not want to know the chain of school-based events, step by step, that led up to Kyron’s abduction that so easily could be learned by suing pps. The only other explanation is in a tort suit the info would become public and cut their legs right out from under them when it comes to their public accusations of Terri. And when they won settlements, that would destroy their private fundraising which seems to be all the money they aspire to. Speaks to their characters to ask the little guys john q public for gifts of $ that PPS actually shoukd be paying. And it would be real money they could hire investigators with.

  39. A Texas Grandfather says:

The MCSO time line then became a worthless effort because they did not know how to build it. They should have used all the information gathered in multiple lines and then one by one checked each of the entries for accuracy and then used good logic to place it in a master line that should have had forks leading to different conclusions. To go back and tell a contributor that they were inaccurate is foolish.

MCSO as an organization, are desperately in need of training including project management.

erose, Blink says Kyron was not assigned to be in any group, so how would a chaperone even know Kyron was supposed to be in his/her group if he was not assigned to that group in the first place?

That’s why I now doubt TP’s recollection. How on earth does one keep track of kids when one doesn’t know which kids they are supposed to be keeping track of in the first place? His comment about “there’s only five” if she actually said that, tells me she at lest knew there were to be six kids, but the where’s Kyron part makes no sense if he was not assigned to be in her group.

The Multhnomah County sheriff’s office reported that no one at the school saw Kyron after 8:45 a.m. Friday and that Kyron never made it to his classroom.

    *****************

If there is a witness(s) who is saying they saw Kyron in Porter’s classroom after 8:45, why on earth is LE saying he was last seen @8:45 and never made it to his classroom?

That article was dated 6/8/10. I have no explanation (not officially) as to “why”- MCSO never felt the need to directly contradict or correct that “rumor” once they had actual confirmation it was incorrect except to say that perhaps Staton’s public comments saying “Kyron HAD been seen later than originally thought” were thought to be enough? The other issue is that I am aware of timeline information being withheld from some of the very case agents working his investigation. That is not uncommon in formats where there is a significant “ramp up” to cover many interviews, etc, but these people were counting on folks calling in their own license plates ftlog. That said, in my view it is the news outlets responsibility to fact check. There are multiple witnesses, both adults and children who saw Kyron after the first bell rang (8:45) and those include some from his own classroom to include his homeroom teacher, Porter.

What is/was LE’s game plan? What were they trying to accomplish by putting out false information?

T.Ruth- and all, I am not going to be able to make sense out of something that makes none in the first place, lol. I recall when Staton made some quotable (what I consider) corrections to the timeline and frankly went public with his concerns they were on the right track investigatively. I once had a rather misogynistic manager who was shall we say, not a very nice guy. The truth is while I did not care him, I learned a significant amount of project management and process improvement from him that I utilize heavily to this day. That said- I also learned you are hired by the people above you and you are fired by the people below you and I am of the opinion that concept played a role in Staton’s demise as well. Why else would Reese be “advertising” Balizan as an association to Kyron’s case- arguably the most notorious and expensive investigation in an unsolved disappearance of a child to date. Who does that?

Lastly- I am convinced that there is a disjoint between the FBI’s investigative track and that of MCSO. That’s never a good sign.

Apparently Porter covered her own ass by insinuating that TMH misled her regarding a Dr. appointment, instead of admitting that she simply misunderstood her.

My question too, is why did KH believe Ms. Porter’s (or perhaps it was LE’s) version of Porter being purposely misled as opposed to believing his then wife, who was wondering how on earth Porter could have screwed this up so badly?

What husband believes a teacher over his own wife and the mother of his children? It’s all strange as hell.

  43. T. Ruth says:

8-year-old Tanner Pumala, a desk mate of Kyron says, “I went downstairs, and that was the last time I saw him and I never seen him after that,” Tanner told KOIN news. Tanner said, the class was regrouping and it was the substitute that noticed Kyron was missing.

“And she was like ‘oh no where’s Kyron there’s only five’ and Mrs. Porter was like it’s okay calm down, calm down he’s probably in the bathroom or getting a drink of water and she said alright I’m going to leave and she left, ” says Tanner Pumala

What exactly does “the class was regrouping” here mean? This makes it sound like Kyron was in fact in this group of kids, and when they got back to the classroom, the sub (chaperone) noticed Kyron wasn’t with them. What else could TP have been saying here?

For months, Murray has faced allegations that he sexually abused homeless boys he encountered decades ago. On Wednesday, Murray’s cousin Joseph Dyer levied similar allegations, saying he felt moved to act because of Murray’s treatment of his accusers.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray will resign, the mayor’s office announced Tuesday afternoon hours after news broke that a fifth man has accused the mayor of molesting him as a child.

thank you TRuth for the factual refresher, Tanner was headed down. oh the other hand few alleged facts from the pens of O reporters were true facts, and word accuracy was meager. Might’ve said reassembing rather than regrouping, or said gathering at 10 for exhibit touring. Regrouping could just be an association in the writer’s mind from the morning groups.

Reporter used the word sub, not chaperone. There was a paraeducator sub that day, a natural fit fir Porter & her bunch, so I tend to believe that word. Obviously she’d previously seen K that mornkng and felt responsibility fir him–so not likely to be a parent chaperone, but pps staff.

  48. erose says:

TRuth, See you point. Regroup signifies there were previous groups.

  49. erose says:

At 10 am the kids are getting into groups. If they were not assigned and are anything like the kids I used to chaperone the kids knew who they wanted in their group. Maybe the chap was waiting for Kyron because the kids wanted Kyron in their group and finally asked ‘where is Kyron?’ That’s when Porter says in the bathroom. So the chap thinks well I’m leaving with the kids I have and Kyron can go in a group that hasn’t already left. Maybe the regroup was in reference to their family group v school group. iDK.
