BREAKING NEWS: Jesse Matthew Abduction of Hannah Graham also linked to Morgan Harrington Murder

BREAKING NEWS- sources inside the investigation of both the murder of Morgan Dana Harrington and the abduction with the intent to defile of 2nd year student at UVA, Hannah Graham  have confirmed to S. Christina Stoy, Editor in Chief of www.blinkoncrime.com that DNA belonging to Jesse Leroy Matthew, Jr matches the DNA link to that of a wanted suspect in the Harrington murder.

Further tests are being conducted to connect Mr. Matthew to a 2005 Fairfax sexual assault as well.

This is a developing story,  please check back for updates.

@Ode. It is my guess football is not really his organizing principle.
Perhaps opportunistic violent sadism which can have rape as a factor, but
not overriding, vs a vs sadism, is his driver.

Fall simply belches new freshman female inebriates on the streets.

But I suspect he accesses other venues
    —-
I cannot tell you how shocked I was to read a UVa alum post
on a media site I saw via Help Find H that RAs in UVa dorms hosted weekly
cocktail times for frosh to introduce them to cutely
named vodka mixes. The social pressure!
Frosh would view imbibing at dorm home as de riguer.
Might as well be in a frat.

My now college Jr elsewhere had 2 years of RAs with no intrusion.
This year she has a Hitler type who per linkedin is a wanna
be psychiatrist who demanded meeting with him privately
in his room to spill your guts is mandatory. Not Univ procedure.
His procedure. . Only because kid is the rare Jf in a dorm do we know
he deviates from the RA norm. He’s blitzed the dorm with demands
I told her to just say No.
she did, now he is emailing to come to his room for food/drink.

Every freshman needs to be trained to trust their instincts, and odd is odd.

Do parents have to worry now, per that one UVA alum, about RA dorm cocktails
    as a social norm?

If anyone wants the alum interview link, I will go refind it.

Do you Blink think an open field display part of the thrill,
or do you think, learning from the past, this girl
    is less visibly hidden ?

I believe Morgan’s placement was a statement- since JLM was aware that his DNA (presumptive) would attach him to her murder, I have to believe duplicating that endeavor would point straight to him- so giving him the benefit of the doubt- I would expect him to conceal Hannah more carefully. That said, Hannah was a very tight window before daylight and his vehicle was not traversing the rolling countryside- unless he had help or an alternative vehicle. He was drinking heavily all night- I suspect Hannah may have been drugged- given those variables alone, I can’t imagine he has a cache of places to carry out a brutal assault and dispose of her. Lastly- I am still woefully unconvinced he has not had an accomplice.

  3. Belsma says:

They have sent, or are getting ready send a drone up to look for Hannah. Not sure how they work, but I would think they are using it to go over farmland and fields. I would not think it would capture anything going over the wooded areas (and there are plenty out there) or in high brushy areas. I hope they find Hannah, Alexis, Samantha and Dashad soon.

Just saw a report that CNU confirmed today that Matthew was investigated for an on-campus sexual assault that took place on September 7, 2003. Sophie Rivera disappeared in Newport News on that same day. I wonder if rejection by one person triggers him to abduct and rape another.

Or a witness. He certainly did not waste any time at the new school, did he?

  8. MsLiberty says:

It’s being reported on our local news sites that JLM, jr was investigated for a sexual assault at CNU in September, 2003, just days before he left the football team. Shortly thereafter, he left the school. Either he’s the unluckiest man ever, always running afoul of women who are out to get him, or he’s a man without control who should have never been around to get to Morgan and Hannah and who knows how many more. I’m afraid of how much more we are still to learn.

  9. Tiny says:

Your(Blink’s) comment on the other thread, on the history of the area, has me more convinced than ever that I know the direction this is taking although I can not yet wrap my head around how it is all connected. I keep checking to see if there is anything new, I have a feeling that I’ll be checking for a long time. I hope JM starts singing like a bird or that some smart cookie has figured this out.
To the local who answered Mom 3.0 on the history, I believe Anchorage Farm was originally Locust Hill, the property where Meriweather Lewis was born and came back to after living in Georgia for a while. I could be wrong on that but I’ve compared maps and that is what I came up with. Lewis mother was Thomas Jefferson’s sister. I think, I can jumble up family trees really well. Bottom line, as Blink wrote out so well, there was quite a bit of intermarrying and first cousins marrying.
I pray Hannah is found soon.
    Really soon.

Well …………… ABC8News is reporting that NPUPD is confirming that LJM was accused of a sexual assault at the school in Sept. ’03. LJ played football there Aug. 4th – Sept 12th ’03. He attended the school from Jan. ’03 until Oct. 15 ’03.

I found this on Scared Monkeys under the Hannah Graham case.

I know you have to be careful about how much info you give, but was wondering if Matthew livrd in Cville at the time of Morgan’s murder or did he live in the Red Hill area? Also was he living in Cville from 2010 until 2013? I know his recent landlady said he had lived there for a year. I’m curious about when he lived in Keswick and also if he still has family in North Gardens. I’m wondering about a lot of stuff, but trying to figure out where he takes his victims for the actual attack. I don’t believe it would be in his vehicle. I know the one in FF was outside her apt complex, but just wonder about others. It.would have to be a place where no one could hear. An old house or empty building he”s familiar and comfortable in? So very creepy to think about.

Makes sense. Something felt off all along when it was determined sketch was African American. Learning there may be others, JM (perhaps being considered as an alleged serial killer) has broken the typical profile of serial killers who ‘usually’ target their own race. The victim whose DNA helped LE link Morgan to her assault (thank God she lived to tell!!!) is another exception. I believe she was Asian, IIRC.

Prayers for Hannah and her family! xo

Graceinthehills….big love and hugs…and to y’all, too. Special ones for friendLY. Thank you for being so forgiving and patient with me. God remembers those who extend kindness to someone who doesn’t deserve it. xo

  15. GraceintheHills says:

Blink, auditory hallucinations are symptoms of psychosis. His behavior, if he committed this and other similar crimes, seems far too goal directed for someone who is actively hallucinating, even intermittently. Patients who are hallucinating can be very distracted by the hallucinations. I have seen or read nothing that would suggest he was severely mentally ill.

Now, his touchy-feely, disinhibited, and inappropriate behavior with a female witness at Tempo made me wonder if he was intoxicated on MDMA. Intoxication with hallucinogenic or some stimulant substances can cause intermittent hallucinations during the period of intoxication, but, again, the person would be very distracted by these symptoms.

  16. Josie says:

I’ve had a feeling since last Tuesday that LJM’s DNA was the probable cause for the warrant for abduction w/ intent to defile. I believe they got it on the first search while swabbing for Hannah’s. I think results came back right on time. This is just my thoughts and just don’t post this if it’s saying note than what should be said. I think he’s been at the top of Chief Longo’s radar from the beginning. The CODIS data base is dependent on LE having personnel with ability to process DNA and post it. It is known that there are around 12,000 rape kits that have never been processed across the USA. The number of DNA samples not entered into C0DIS is unknown.

Several states, Louisiana is one, have not posted all the state cases to CODIS. An experienced investigator solved some cases in the Northwest states by knowing which states had information that was not in CODIS and going directly to the state files.

The public generally does not know the cost of investigating crimes. Some jurisdictions have very limited budgets and cannot provide the training and funding for building a first class crime unit. In addition, leadership and management play an important role in solving crimes.

In this case Chief Longo has shown quality management skills and because of that, I believe he will be able to solve some of the crimes that have not been solved by others such as the Virginia State police. Good management means getting the information out to the public in a timely manner that will help progress the case without revealing things that would help the perps.

There is always the possibility that in a criminal case, there are persons in powerful positions in state and local governments that do not want the case solved because it would point to themselves or someone in their family. This would also include state run schools and other organizations that could be legally liable for not providing safe environments for the students or the public.

My now college Jr elsewhere …RA…demanding meeting with him privately in his room.

    ———————
    I agree.
I was shocked reading that same article but then realized by the age of the alum that it was written @ life in in early 1980s – last generation- when the drinking age was 18 at a time when college kids drank more often than not to get tipsy vs now when they drink more often than not to get wasted/black out drunk.
Huge long-time drinking culture in Virginia colleges, maybe more than in some other states. Just my observation. Nothing to be proud of for VA.
I hope that kids who choose not to drink have the backbone to stand up for themselves despite the daunting peer pressure to imbibe/ overdo.
The author IMHO was a little clueless how offensive her article was to some as she was all excited about the “social education” she was being given by learning about all types of “sophisticated” mixed drinks. Yawn.

HUGE RED FLAG about your daughter’s RA. The VAST majority of date rape cases happen in the BOYS dorm room, frat room, apartment. Something about being in his own turf makes him more comfortable/brazen if he’s a freak. Sound advice you are offering your daughter. My hat is off to you. Now for the conundrum – the weird RA could in fact be more harmless than the “normal” guy who listens attentively and feigns social conscience only to force himself on your daughter. Avoiding a compromising position with all college boys until one has earned her trust and not said anything to raise a red flag like “are you a virgin” is best defense against predators. So many creeps these days it’s very hard for nice girls (even very smart nice girls) to sort out the harmless ones from the predators. We just have to keep doing the best we can to keep our girls safe. A private parent call to the dorm director/ director of student life may be in order. Ask your daughter what she thinks. Her RA sounds like he’s definitely crossed the line of propriety and the university may need to hear about it via phone call or email so they can set the creep straight. You are right telling her to say “no” and steer clear. Ticks me off bc she should have a female RA anyway. Coed dorm floors exacerbate the problem of date rape/predatory behavior and lend precious little privacy for our young ladies- ugh.
Your daughter should have a female RA to confide in if needed instead of a “creeper”. Once again, we are failing our kids with these lax new age rules. Whoever made it universally acceptable for hormonal college-aged kids to live next door or right across the hall from the opposite sex every day and night should have their head examined.

I’ve been re-reading some of Morgan’s comments here, and I came across the report of the BM in the Jeep on AF, stating he was David Bass’s brother.

Is there any evidence of JLM ever owning a jeep? Or perhaps a family member/close friend? Does a description of the “Jeep Man” exist? I know it’s been 5 years, but I hope LE contact the witness and ask what they remember.

I, too, worry about an accomplice, specifically because JLM has flown under the radar for so many years. Hi pale rider. I’ve been thinking about this too. A 20-something AA man is going to be recognized as not being D.Bass’ bro. Who was this guy?

  39. dda says:

You are right, Blink, he did not waste any time. If he is related to the disappearance of Sophie Rivera, I think that will be important for investigating other potential crimes because that may be the first abduction and murder. The two on-campus assaults appear to be, with what limited information we have, assaults on women he knew or were in close proximity that resulted in rape/assault but did not result in more “sophisticated” crimes. It makes you wonder at what point he evolved into a different type of predator–was it with Rivera the same day as the CNU assault and he decided that he would no longer get caught? Or did that evolution come later with Morgan? The 2005 rape in Fairfax is more along the lines of the on-campus assaults but the abduction of Morgan and Hannah seem different to me…more cunning and more of a predator who lures rather than just attacks.

One thing I wish to caution folks on when trying to consider profiling this type of offender.

Very Important- the exception is always the rule- You see CSI and Law and Order or similar shows that teach a linear pattern, they coin investigators saying they must think like the offender to catch him. Let me be blunt- the truth is if any of us could truly think like this individual we would be deviant criminals- which we are not. I say this to underscore that it is important to note that offenders evolve to the opportunity on occasion. Offenders change MO constantly. The ritual aspects if they exist, are usually pretty static f this is that kind of offender. I do sense that in terms of a deviance or paraphillic sense- “find one, find more.”

The really critical thing is that in a responsible way- so as not to release info re victims or anything that might lead to their identity- is to publicly disclose the case scenarios to develop leads to support that.

This man, potentially, has been operating in a vacuum for over 14 years? No way in the free world I will ever believe that. Transparency is going to be forthcoming here to protect our girls- I can feel the wind shift.

  42. LuckyBlackPearl says:

Blink, what type of traffic offenses was JLM’s dad charged with on 9/18?

At first I thought that JLM’s parents were simply in denial about what their son had done, who he really was. After learning that JLM was accused of sexual assault at Christopher-Newport U, following his expulsion from Liberty U for the same behavior, I thought: there is absolutely NO way that one or both of his parents didn’t know what was going on, why he was expelled, etc.

So what’s the story with Pops? Someone commented earlier about JLM’s dad having served some time in jail. Why was JLM’s dad in jail? Could Dad have “helped” JLM out in a pinch due to a sense of guilt at setting a bad example for his son by going to jail, or for being absent at some point(s) in JLM’s childhood while serving his sentence?

I’m also wondering about JLM’s parents’ relationship– still married, divorced, what? Is there any record of domestic abuse? Don’t kids who witness domestic abuse have tendencies towards developing aggressive and antisocial behaviors, and have an increased chance of becoming domestic abusers themselves, among other things?

Are there any other family members (I’m thinking cousins) somewhat close to JLM in age that JLM was very close with growing up, that were tasked with “watching out for” JLM while his dad was in jail, and/or that has a history of behavioral issues or a criminal record himself?

Picture me in a sound proof booth yelling. Can’t go there today.

Having experienced twice what you are now going through with your MOM, I know the anxiety of not knowing. One time we were lucky-no cancer. The second time, forty years later, we didn’t find the infected lump in time. However, because we were always aware, it had not spread and a simple operation to remove the infected cells followed by chemo solved the problem. She has been free of it for nine years.

I’m extremely curious to see Matthew’s demeanor as he moves into trial phase. Will he show guilt or remorse?

Is it possible that he is a deeply conflicted person who ultimately wished to be caught? While Morgan’s body was discarded in a remote area, still it was not concealed. Is it possible that he displayed her shirt as a way of pleading, “please save me from myself?”

There’s a huge dichotomy here…on the one hand, we have a guy who on many accounts is described as “gentle” and “friendly” and “I can’t believe he would ever do something like that.” And then a switch flips and he goes off. Does he see himself as the kind dude or the violent dude? If he has a conscience, the weight of all that darkness inside him must be extraordinary.

    He didn’t

  45. GeorgiaDad says:

I doubt that football is directly related to his behavior.

Likely, JLM, like most 18-19 year old football players, had dreams of the NFL, but that was not realistic. Liberty is not a big time program, although they have aspirations. At the time JLM was there, Liberty was a fairly week program playing in Division I-AA in the Big South Conference. CNU is a much lesser program, and possibly one of the few schools that would accept a player kicked out of another school.

Maybe fall has some effect, especially with school starting and lots of fresh targets going off to school for the first time. I suspect, however, that he was a year-round offender, there may have just been more opportunities in the fall.

As to his motivation, I wonder if it is similar to that of South Carolina serial killer, Pee Wee Gaskins related in the book “Final Truth : The Autobiography of a Serial Killer : Donald H Gaskins”. Gaskins related that he would frequently pick up hitch-hikers along I-95 and hope they would agree to have sex with him. On one occasion, he states that he really wanted to have sex with an attractive young woman who refused when he realized that all he had to do was do what he wanted and then kill her and dump her in the swamp. He related periods of relative normality after which he would develop “PMS” – Pre-Murder Syndrome and would then go looking for victims. These victims were not targetted, he would just drive up and down I-95 looking for female hitch-hikers. He wasn’t particular about his victims and on a few occasions accidently picked up young men with long hair and proceeded to rape, torture, and kill them also.

What is interesting about Gaskins is how he compartmentalized people. He committed several “serious murders” where he killed people he knew, but felt that was completely different from the many strangers he claimed to have killed. He appeared to lead a fairly normal life, although he was somewhat creepy (in fact, he laid the slate in my parents’ foyer), but had no lasting marriages or jobs.

The book is an interesting read, but not for those with weak stomachs – he describes his tortures in great detail. I also suspect he embellished and exaggerated a bit.

I am familiar with Gaskins- great baseline assessment of his crimes and book.

I subscribe to the potential that “serials” do utilize their learned expertise occasionally to exact their crimes on known individuals in certain patterns. I am not sure they understand why they do themselves- whether they are honing skills, or they may be waning in and out the continuum for whatever environmental or psychological reasons. What I hope I am successful in imparting to all is that profiling this suspect is equivalent to a successful set up of dominoes that have already fallen- it can’t be reproduced successfully without setting them all up again.

I think I shared this on one of Morgan’s threads years ago, but when I was a freshman in college (2001), I lived in a dorm with co-ed floors. Each dorm room typically housed 2 students and every room had a “front” door to the main hallway, but also a door to a bathroom shared with the room next door. Due to the shared bathrooms, suites of two rooms were unisex, though the floor and dorm itself was co-ed.

After attending a party at the off-campus lacrosse house, my suite-mate had gotten incredibly drunk and was carried home and put into bed by a stand-up male friend of hers. He gave her water, placed her on her side, and made sure the door to her room was locked. I was also at the party, though I didn’t drink at that time. I came home to my dorm room to find my roommate in a tizzy because she had allowed a male lacrosse player to enter our suite-mate’s room—via our room and the shared bathroom!!!!!— to “check on” the suite-mate. The lacrosse player lived across the hall and while we knew him by sight, we certainly weren’t friends with him. To this day, I still can’t wrap my head around what my roommate could have possibly been thinking.

Not knowing what to do, I simply barged into her room via the shared bathroom. He was in bed with her. I turned around and left the room because I didn’t know what the hell to do (I was extremely sheltered growing up). I went to get our RA but he said his hands were tied because he couldn’t enter her room without her permission… and she was obviously unable to give permission. But I couldn’t leave the lacrosse player in there, so I went back into her room and this time found the guy hiding behind the door and kicked him out.

I’m pretty sure she didn’t report it to anyone in any fashion, let alone as a sexual assault. However, the lacrosse player was a total predator in that he saw her level of intoxication at the party and then essentially followed her home, seeking her out in her room after she had left the party because he knew where she lived. He was able to gain access to his victim due to the naivety/stupidity/compliance of my freshman roommate, and because he was superficially familiar to her and put on a guise of concern for the wellbeing of our suite-mate.

But I’ve been troubled by this ever since then.
