Casey Anthony Trial: JOJO Comes To Court- A Zero To Hero Moment For George Anthony (Podcast Added)

Orlando, FL-  I know I should really write in chronological order for y’all that are just reading the days events.     I just can’t.

In the first day of the trial of the State of Florida v. Casey Anthony I went through  a “Steel Magnolias” equivalent of tissues the first half, and proceeded to sharpen our Henkels in the afternoon for reasons I cannot explain.

Linda Drane Burdick, in her smart and gas-can-red suit, riveted the jurors, the public, and even the defendant, Casey Anthony.

Ms. Anthony shook her head no at all the places she does not want you to look.  Ms. Anthony cried on cue.

Very upsetting this business of your daughter’s skull in a bog where you left it, with the intention of never seeing it again, and all the nastiness that comes with such an imposition.

In a most level and calculated fashion,  Burdick took us through the timeline with resolve.  While none of us ever really wanted to get to the “end”, we did, and she is right, there is no other that had access to the evidence in this case.

Asking this jury to find a verdict of guilty is going to be like asking who wants ice cream on the way back home.

Enter famed Mayberry Attorney Barney Fife,  I mean self-proclaimed  “Juanie Cochran”  , Jose Baez after lunch with his clients proclamation that Caylee Marie Anthony died on June 16, 2008 while both Casey and George were present, by an accidental drowning in the above-ground swimming pool.

That was just the start of the delusion for public consumption.  If you did not raise your glass and look at the bottom in the light, you were not paying close enough attention.  Am I really hearing this?  Is there something in my water?

Kronk was kronked again, and accused of hiding Caylee’s remains from some unknown place, but ending up in the Suburban junkmess; and motivation for a reward as opposed to relieving himself was the reason he came upon her tiny skull.

Through her attorney, Casey Anthony did exactly what I have said she would do.  She blamed George for not reporting Caylee’s death and Cindy for leaving the ladder up to the pool , and wept while Baez told us all that Casey was sexually abused from the age of 8.

Masterfully and Mercifully,  Jeff Ashton laid down the hammer in response.  George Anthony was called as the States first witness.

We held our breath.  Could George  really lay down in his own chalk outline for the kid who just called him a perv, a pedophile?

Phew.

JoJo took the stand, and I liked him again.  I believed, as I always have, that he loves and misses his cherub Caylee more than he loves fake dignity as doled out to him by his wife and daughter, and he did right by her.

I repeat: HE DID RIGHT BY HER

Putting George Anthony on the stand first was artful, and I presume the reason the defense wanted an “order” for how the state was going to call it’s witnesses.   Mission failed.

George stated he never inappropriately touched Casey, or had been in an inappropriate sexual act in front of her.  What a disgusting tactic by his daughter and I apologize to those victims who are actual victims of such atrocity to have to hear it.

(Editors Note: You can be a hack and review George’s online activity and know his “proclivities” have nothing to do with children whatsoever.)

Jeff Ashton had about a gazillion sustained objections and an instruction to the jury about the appropriateness for attorneys to meet with a witness in advance.

Jose Baez asked a slew of questions that were ambiguous and unclear and frankly catapulted my headache.

Baez got the hook, and Mr. Anthony was excused subject to recall.

great job blink… great article!! I had respect for george and even cried … when baez was slinging his caca all over the place… I just seen linda baden.. the one that had plastic surjery and shines like a plastic cup.. root for baez…
this is terrible that casey did this to her parents… jeanie winethraub is arguing no one but baden agrees with her… than HLN showed the jail house tape of cindy telling casey that the rumor is that caylee drowned and casey goes… surprise surprise…. and boy was it a surprise…

thanks blink for all you do!!! no more snack money for kc … she best learn to move fast enough to catch them critters that crawl under and around her bed…. and food…

    Blink,

I agree that GA online activity shows that his interest is not in children. He is about RECEIVING and there is a huge difference, and that is what the defense showed in opening statement. Not that he was into Casey/children.

There is a couple of things that I was not aware of, I thought LDB did very well, it wasn’t until after she was done that I noticed how much of their case is based on Cindy and George.

The internet searches, made an impact, however not so sure how they are going to prove it was casey.

Baez was confusing me, the accident theory at the beginning helped pop the bubble so to speak, but then was disputing car, moving the body from site ect. I didn’t get that. IF casey told him the story about caylee drowning which I don’t think she did, then what? wouldn’t they know where the body was and that would explain the car?

    he lost me there.

I didn’t understand the objection to asking george about the tape on the can, it was in the depos.

TWO THINGS :) (waving) 1)I never noticed that George did say he hoped it was not CASEY OR CAYLEE why would he think that he never even called caseys phone to check on them.

2)Did he retain/ask advice of an attorney within 24hrs, but more importantly did he retain/ask for CASEY? If I recall correctly she had to find baez on her own, her parents didn’t help her

I repeat: HE DID RIGHT BY HER
    —–
Does doing right by her also include making a living off of the blood money he and Cindy made off of their dead granddaughter?

Dining on crab puffs at the Ritz while OCSO was digging through weeds & dirt trying to gather her pieces back up to put her back together again in a lab?

George did right by her by telling others to get off their a– and search?

He did nothing. He walked Tinker & Tillie, he flaked out in Daytona, he came back home because Cindy 86′d his allowance and coming back home is what a good boy does. He did nothing. Love is something you do & George is a bunch of lip
    service.

I respectfully disagree on this one, Blink. The man is a toad.

He drove a billboard around in circles. Yay! I’m clapping.

He is, in every other sense, and any other day, yes.

She needed this Carpe, just for today and he brought it.

what a day!! we waited for three years for this day… it will only get nastier as baez tries to build his career at any cost.
none of his statements make sense!! I felt that the state did a great job. Mark nejame said that the defense did a miserable job ….so many legal experts have said the same.. I cant wait to read bill shaeffers thoughts…

I woke up at 4 in the morning to be ready to go…. by this time I am a zombie…it feels like old times here… we are a rocking this place… in the persuit of juistice for caylee.

I just remember something …. during the frye hearing… baez asked george if he would do anything for his daughter… did did he know that how baez would try to spin that tale…

  11. cbickel says:

I wondered what you would have to say about this…she may as well just kiss her ass goodbye, not sure if you can print that. What a waste of human skin.

My daughter was pregnant with my grandaughter when this happened, we followed this case daily…my grandaughter is the sane age now that Caylee was when she went “missing”…just the thought of what Caylee went thru is enough to make me want to ….well let’s just say, what it makes me want to do isn’t pretty and leave it at that.

I was pregnant with my daughter when JonBenet was murdered, after a previous second trimester miscarriage, and on bedrest.
I absolutely believe it skews a persons anger, it has taken me 3 years to figure out how to impart a layer of protection.

  12. Midwest Mom says:

    And one more thing..

Cindy FREAKED me out, seriously, she sat there like she was in a seminar..not my place to say what her experience should look like, she appears to be able to contain her emotions under unusual circumstances

  13. TiaMaria says:

I cried for George today, and yes, Cindy too. Maybe at the threat of his own freedom, maybe not – but yes, JoJo stood up for Caylee today and did the right thing. I am proud of him. I am also in awe that he stayed relatively calm and collected, based on his past behavior in hearings and depositions. Perhaps he has learned the State is not his enemy after all? Cindy will be the wild card. I don’t know if she can stand and tell the whole truth. After all, I believe she is in deep deep denial and riddled with guilt at her enabler behavior. To her I say, it is NOT your fault that Casey killed Caylee. Please do the right thing and tell the truth for Caylee. Then pray for your daughter.

Blink – I am so exhausted. I thought jury selection was draining. I underestimated what strength this trial is going to require from us.

I have decided that Baez is nothing but a “dirty street fighter.” He just sinks lower and lower in my eyes. He does not know how to cross examine just spew venom I am not a fan of the Anthonys but I was proud of Jo Jo today. I hope he continues to tell the truth and not get caught in the Baez web by changing his story to protect his traitor daughter.

I noticed today when LDB was finishing up and talking about the three pieces of tape…Casey was shaking her head gently up and down. She agreed that this was the cause of death? I don’t think she was aware she did this. What was with all the head shaking anyway?

The only thing I felt today about Casey and her attitude was “defiance.”

When you think about it….what Casey did to Caylee…it is not a far stretch to do what she did today to her family. I found it all disgusting and not at all helpful to the defense. What a joke. They must be desperate.

  17. DeeJaye says:

I wish I could say I was surprised by anything today. Really, I’m probably most surprised that I was able to contain fits of hysterical laughter at my desk while I surreptiously viewed today’s circus. I’m not even surprised that George finally stood up and defended himself. Sure a parent’s love is unconditional but there comes a time where you just gotta cut bait and sail off into the sunset. I’m proud of George today for finally standing up for Caylee. That’s what this day is about, despite the defense attempts to make it about everyone but her. It’s only just begun.

Thanks to George, how he could sit there while the wheels on the bus dug into him is beyond me, hope Cindy proves to be Caylee’s Grandma and stops the madness…

  21. Erin says:

As a survivor of this type of abuse as a child, I can only say that Jose Baez and Casey Anthony had better pray long and hard that there are no real victims on the jury. I found his opening statement disgusting and had to leave the room several times to pull myself together. In my opinion, Baez practically handed Casey a death sentence with that fiasco.

I was really, really worried that George was going to take the fall for his undeserving daughter. My relief brought me to tears when he sided with Caylee today.

I, too, am so glad that George showed his utter love and devotion to Caylee today. Also, encouraged to hear that Cindy was rubbing his back in the elevator after the DF team’s explosive rumors. My prayers to this family…it must be the most horrible thing ever to face!

Blink….long time reader but have never posted! Thank u for being u and thank u for this! I do , tonight have an ounce of sympathy for George! One ?… After all the garb that Baez spewed out today…does the defense now have to prove those allegations?

  28. Al Miller says:

Bravo, Blink!!! I remember commenting on here long ago that she would accuse Lee and George of abuse. She is truly and evil woman for attempting that on top of everything else. I still have the same question I did then…is George her bio Dad? Anyway, I’m so relieved to see things coming down as they are. Thanks for everything you do!!!

  29. Columbiares (Pam) says:

You have the 5 o’clock news accent…same here…but I guess I’d call that a mid-west accent. LOL I know- I fought it for years and finally just accepted it was really an accent. It just happens to be the one the national news broadcasters strive to get. LOL

  30. NLB says:

George was saving himself today. If he said the molestations were true couldn’t he have been arrested on the spot? Ditto the conceling of a dead body. The Anothony enabled this defence, They could have done things differently but choose to vilify law enforcement and try to blame other innocent people. The deserve some of this hell.

  31. Sammy says:

Bill Schaeffer (WFTV’s legal expert) was on the Nancy Grace show tonight.
Great legal mind and he has the ability to explain the law to his viewers.
Mr Schaeffer’s synopsis of this case all along have been spot on. MOO

The transcripts for tonight’s NG show aren’t available yet, but here is some paraphrased highlights of what Mr Schaeffer had to say about Baez in the courtroom today …

    [list]
[*] This defense won’t fly. No amount of lipstick you put on it – it’s still a pig.

[*] Baez lost his credibility as an attorney with these jurors today. And it’s not like a basketball game, where you can make a come back. You can’t make it up – it’s over.

[*] Baez left out critical elements that explain the giant leap from Caylee drowning to George Anthony to Roy Kronk.

[*] I didn’t think this was a death penalty case before – now I do.

[*] I have a newfound respect for George Anthony today.

Hope it’s okay to pop in and say ‘hello’. It’s probably close to a year since I’ve posted, but have continued reading on and off. (new email addy for me Blink)

Hope you’re all well. Had to watch the opener today; I too was holding my breath over George’s testimony, and so relieved to hear it.

I felt it was already over today, even though it’s just begun. I truly believe now justice for Caylee will be served. How fitting. Seems Baez is counting on maybe one too many enormous ‘suspensions of disbelief’ from this jury.

While I haven’t followed all the details as closely as before, I couldn’t help but think about ‘grave wax’ all evening. The DT will expect the jury to believe George broke into Tony’s to steal the paper towel, and then got grave wax on it, and then planted it with the garbage bag? Or just hung onto his own paper towels for a month and planted them with the garbage bag in the trunk, or maybe the dumpster at the tow yard?? Or maybe Roy did that part, or, or, or, or ??? Hmmmm…….. ‘kay………..

I’m sure there will be plenty more ‘pesky’ things I haven’t even thought of yet.

I think Baez sunk the ship today…….prayers for Caylee.

Glad to see all the great work you’ve been accomplishing Blink. Take Care.

  33. MJ says:

Carpe~ wholeheartedly I agree with you about the spineless, money sucking Anthonys but today for once George tipped the balance for Caylee. Had he followed the lock step party line of ‘help casey at any cost’, as they had been doing, imo Caylee would have been just fallout from the casey’s a victim too story.
If he had capitulated with the abuse story, endured a lifetime of sidelong glances solely to help casey out, Baez would have ramped this into a tabloid type frenzy. The more lurid questions he could conjure, before long nothing about the case would be finding justice for a murder.
For a weak willed coward, he did put Caylee first today, even if in part to salvage his own reputation, she’s the one who will not be the sideshow attraction because of his denying any part in an accident or abuse.

  34. Wyks says:

    Great article Blink, thank you!

Three years ago, just like many others, I felt compassion and empathy for George and Cindy. And then they opened their mouths. As the days, weeks, months, years went on, everything they did and said … well … brought them both to zero in my mind. I quite honestly was ready to help Casey toss them both under the bus, just prior to sticking my foot out and kicking her under there with em.

But today… Today George redeemed himself in the eyes of many, and in finally taking a stand for himself, he took a stand for Caylee. You are so right, Caylee needed that today!

I was watching and listening to George carefully, as were many others. IMO he was very believably honest, speaking from the heart, with words/expressions as well as body language. I cried for him and fully believe him. And for me, this is saying a lot, coming from a severe abuse ‘thriver’ . Casey may have been sexually abused, but it wasn’t by George. IMO.

I do hope that George realizes how very proud of her JoJo Caylee must be today. And hope that will somewhat ease the pain the spiteful biatch dared heap on his head.

I want to hear from the dog. Am hoping that the state will contact Cesar Millan, , because he could translate for the court. Although retired, that dog needs his day in court, in order to take his own stand and have his dignity restored.
The least we could do is contact PETA, and report the bus that rolled over the poor pup today.

  35. Kathy in Florida says:

Once again Blink …Pulitzer material ..lol. The Defense has maintained that “no one one knows how Caylee died”…low and behold …she drowned…now that leads me to believe Casey will have to take the stand…if she does,I hope Jeff Ashton makes her mad again…I have compassion for George Anthony….some people are just passive…he loved Caylee … and that’s a given .

I am not done reading all the posts from today yet, but had a thought after todays beginning of the end hopefully for KC .

I cannot figure for the life of me, why she needs George to be there for an accident? IT would work better if it happened with no witnesses to coaberate with? wouldn’t it… It would and could make sense. Baez made a big bid mistake today if he was trying to save her life but maybe he only gets paid if she gets the needle?

  38. New says:

Missed the program was making calzones smell is yum yum.

What JB said about George and son will haunt them the rest of their lives. There will always be those who say well they could have it is her word against theirs. There is no proof.

Thinking back to some of the old boyfriends statements. Casey would say she didn’t get along with her Father and her brother was nuts. So I am sure JB will ask that question of those wittnesses adding fuel to the fire he just lit. She told friends that her Mother was nuts too. Cindy would say that Casey yelled at George more than she did. Oh what a mess this woman had made of every life she has touched. Great Grandma was right. Casey hated Cindy more than she loved Caylle. I think Cindy hated George and demasculated him time and again. George said he would do anything to save Casey I guess he has his limits to bad he didn’t tell JB. But there is need for mitigating circumstances at anyone expense. I do not believe Caylle drowned in the pool. Thats her story and she is sticking to it. She is now walking down a new hall. Its the hall of destroy everyone to save herself. I was proud of George today too. I don’t know if he has grown some cahoonas or he just set his limit for self preservation. Thank you Blink for allowing us to share our thoughts.

I doubt he has grown them, I think he just borrowed them for the day from Cindy’s purse.

That said, I am forever grateful that he did.

    May 24, 2011 at 7:30 pm

chica, you may be right about that…Jose semi prepared him for what may come up in the trial. I don’t think anything he was asked today by the defense came to a surprise. How far it went may have been. The details were repulsive, but not the truth. For anyone who has experienced the trauma of a sexual assault (anytime in their lives) must have been seething for this sick excuse to defend the liar. Besides, us mothers know that we would NEVER leave our child with a known pedophile…..EVER! Or tell her parents they were the best grandparents and her daughter was lucky to have ‘had them’.

I observed a man who showed genuine emotions. His reflections of Caylee lit up his face. Something I haven’t observed in George for a long time. It was NOT what Casey wanted of him. She fidgeted in her chair uncomfortably and again, shook her head no as he was recalling the lowest part of their lives. Obviously, Casey would expose tears, shake her headd ‘no’ and work that bratty pouty mouth as effectively as possible. ‘No’ is simply denial and Casey’s inability to accept accountability. She’s now in a controlled environment where running is not an option. She’s forced to have to sit there and hear these unflattering discussions about her. Talking back and shouting, blaming another for their inadequacies is her natural defense. It’s been taken away. Sociopath or not, her actions hurt her case BIG TIME, today.

Who hasn’t had this experience with Casey (family, friends, strangers, law enforcement, lawyers…to name a few)? She has no boundaries when it comes to her survival and mooching. Who knew it would mean Caylee’s life would end for it?

PS…Blink, if you have an accent, you’d pass for a Canuck! Your voice is delightful as a kid in a candy shop!

Great to see all kinds of posters! New ones, long time readers, old friends…. I’m reminded of a quote from the movie, The Last Samurai:

Katsumoto: I have introduced myself. You have introduced yourself. This is a very good conversation.

Lovin on every single one of you! <3

  40. chelsea says:

I held my breath during George’s testimony! I was praying for a miracle, that he would man up – HE DID! I cheered him from the sidelines. Like most posters, I initially felt the deepest sorrow for the Anthonys, even understood their misguided attempts to help their evil offspring but as time went by I came to despise and eventually loathe the couple. Having said that, I always felt that George was maybe weak, a disappointing mate for Cindy and that he found himself caught up in her crazy off the rails behaviour. Watching every Motion and Court appearance that this pair have made, I had thought Cindy seemed more docile (if that’s the word) and amenable, less aggresive and did wonder if she was changing sides especially when I noticed they sat together behind the Prosecution but perhaps that was just the seating arrangements made by the Court but I can dream. I’m sure she reads all the available blogs and you would have to have the skin of a rhino not to realise the public feeling concerning this case. As a parent I would of course ‘be there’ through thick and thin for any child of mine, but if I truly believed that had murdered my grandchild, I would expect and demand they face the consequences. Blink, do you think Lee will testify? Will he follow George’s example? I pray he steps up to the mark. Loved the article Blink, I’m even getting the hang of snark!! A simple thank you isn’t enough for what you do but it is from the heart!

    Lee will testify.
    B

  41. MsEnscene says:

I am going to reserve my opinion about the appearance of the heroic George today. Maybe he was and maybe he wasn’t a hero. He was saving his skin for sure.

Botn George and Cindy brought “props” to the courtroom today when they were told that they could not do that. George a bible and Cindy a teddy bear. They still think of themselves as entitled people.

And another thing…who believes George’s story of seeing Casey and Caylee on June 16th leaving the house and Casey going to work? Cell pings and computer usage show show Casey never left the houise. Unless she went around the corner and waited until George left after viewing his tv show…which was not broadcast on that day.

So when did George actually see the twosome on the 16th? His story has changed and grown as large a mini-series over time with added details and asides thrown in.

No one could believe that he actually remembered what little Caylee and Casey wore after a month? And it was just “a normal type day” as George said. No earth shattering things happening, according to George but suddenly George is a child’s fashion maven on that day.

My point is George didn’t tell the truth about the last time he saw Casey and Caylee. Most likely he didn’t see them at all that day. And was describing another day.

Caylee’s remains were not found in the clothes George said she was wearing.

Why did he lie? To protect Casey…possibly to throw LE off the scent of a big fight on the 15th which gave Casey motive to abscond with her child. Both he and Cindy wanted desperately to hide any conflict in the family when the family was rife with Draaaammma…as Casey wrote to one of her boyfriends.

I don’t know, but George is still suspicious to me. Not that I believe he did anything to Caylee, not that I necessarily believe he molested his daughter, but he isn’t telling the truth about June 16th. He may not even have been at home.

Well as long as your reserving your opinion… lol

    Teasing you MsEnscene-

He’s told several variations of the events of the 16th. Here’s the beauty of it- I don’t care anymore as long as doing so was not in protection of Casey’s lies.

What was astounding to me was the Baez is maybe the single worst attorney at cross-examining a case critical witness I have ever seen. For starters, On 6/16 George called Casey AT THE HOUSE right after arriving at work, and immediately thereafter called her cell. If I were looking to nail the guy, that factoid is important.

    Moreover-

What about the concrete slab and yard re-do?? Plumbing Incident July 1st sending Cindy into panic mode?

Man, as much as I try not to roast another professional- this guy just coats himself in butter and jumps in the pan.

Jose Baez has officially lost his opportunity to impact this jury out of the gate.

The State anticipated this defense tactic and it blew up in the defense’s face and there is no doubt in my mind that has resulted in a distrust of Casey and her counsel in the minds of this jury.

So for that, I had to give JoJo his due. For today, and Caylee, who loves him purely.

Great article Blink! I can not believe what they are doing….it is disgusting. I have no words. You know what? Their defense would have been a lot more credible if they told Casey discovered Sweetheart Caylee then panicked, put her in the Trunk and so on…but that! That was too much.

Do you believe Jose Baez’s defense of Casey Anthony?

  45. Teri says:

Will the jailhouse videos with Casey telling George what a great dad he was/is come be played for this jurty?

Great Question, as that was taped prior to Casey’s indictment on the current charges, I am not sure they can introduce it.

But I agree it was the first thing I thought of when Baez started in with his George is the devil spiel.

Thank you Ragdoll for the beautiful words for old timers and new posters.

My apologies, I have been lurking for three years, so much, that I ended up feeling part of the Blink Family.

Hello to all from Oz, honoured to be in the company of such caring people.

Blink – You are SO fabulous!

One of my favorite moments from his opening was Baez again saying that Gerus and Bones can’t “testify” …Yes even the pups are under the bus. How I would SOOOOOOO love to have both those dogs come into court and just bite Baez in the butt. Now THAT would be great testimony …if not definitive editorial comment on Baez’ skills as an attorney (snark snark).

I would though like Linda to explain why Gerus is out of service. Do we know why?? Also, the reason that the dogs didn’t get the same response the second day was that the earth had been moved around … Do we know if that was LE doing the moving ….or was that Cindy the Landscaper and Tamperer-in-Chief???

Can’t wait to hear you on Dana’s show!

TY, will post podcast when available today.

I am confused! Didn’t JoJo say all the doors received child protection? How did Caylee get out?

  49. Teri says:

I do still have to wonder about the jailhouse video where Casey says “Don’t worry..I haven’t said anything.” That fits nicely into the defense theory.

We also have to remember that none of the jurors have the knowledge we do (supposedly). So – this defense opening could very well have had a major impact on them.

However, the question I hope they wrestled with in the rooms last night was “If it was an accident, why are you willing to gamble life in prison/the death penalty to play this out in court?”

That part makes NO sense at all.
