Casey/Caylee Anthony Murder Trial: Closing Arguments Bring New Confessions By Jose Baez And New Smirks By Jeff Ashton
Assistant State’s Attorney Jeff Ashton began the closing arguments with such scalpular precision my mind wandered briefly where I actually pictured him scrubbing in, just before entering court. In approximately 77 minutes, with 2 overruled objection by Jose Baez, Ashton tied up the one thing he is NOT required to present to the jury, Casey’s motive for murdering her toddler, setting the tone for his closing that presented more like an excerpt from a Grisham flick. I say let him play himself.
“..It’s easy to be a parent, sometimes.. It’s easy to be a parent, when your playing with your child, or when your enjoying your child, children are fun… But we all know that being a parent is much more than just playing with your children.. Being a parent is about sacrifice.. Your child becomes your life. This case is about the clash between that responsibility and the expectations that go with it, and the life that Casey Anthony wanted to have… “
Ashton went through the time line of 31 days including details from the elaborate lies Casey Anthony told to avoid detection from her Mother Cindy, her imaginary friend finder chip located in the unallocated sectors of her mind where her conscious should have been, and the fact there is only one reason to duct tape a small child: MURDER. Ashton reminded jurors that the defense theory is asking them to head down rabbitholes that defy reasonable thought. It makes one wonder if that was not exactly the source of inspiration behind Jose Baez Dr. Huntington pigs sans blankets experiment.

Jose was spotted given jurors a parting gift over lunch, which was intercepted by deputies.
Doom and Gloom Loom for Camp Casey
On what is likely to be her day of reckoning, Ms. Anthony was less than thrilled to learn that 2 of the bullseye on her defense’s dart board were permanently removed, I reckon. George and Lee Anthony, the crux of the defense’s failed attempts to blame Casey Anthony’s selective post traumatic stress disorder, will not be allowed to be maligned further based on her allegations of sexual abuse.
As expected, Jose Baez began his closing arguments reminding jurors the defense is not required to “defend” at all. In short, his comments were structured around the trash being altered because it was allowed to dry, and that the state allowed jurors to pass around the velveeta pouch so they could help figure out “Who cut the cheese.” You read that correctly, he actually said that.
He also went on to express his concerns that the State painted his client as a slut, and by doing so, invoking their emotions which will be used to find her guilty, as opposed to actual evidence.
In what I will call flub #3 in less than 40 minutes, Jose Baez inadvertently tells jurors that Casey Anthony’s trunk for the usage ot transportation is not murder. HEH? I thought the defense was quite adamant the junk in the trunk is what stunk. I guess that’s now bunk, whoda’ thunk?
Jose Baez is currently continuing his contribution to the defense’s, and Cheney Mason is on as anchor to complete the allotted 4 hours.
Linda Drane Burdick has had 3 sustained objections and granted one move to strike already. I lost that bet dangit.
Flub #4 flies in, while I am editing. This lawyer just actually admitted Casey searched for chloroform based on Ricardo Morales’s image on his computer. OMG.

On an unrelated note, the jury has selected their preference for the order of question during the press conference scheduled following a verdict. It is as follows:

I am not aware of any accident that results in the spontaneous pediatric peridontic application of 3 separate strips of duct tape across the mouth and nasal aperatures of a toddler.
That said, I have not perused a PDA in a while given other studies.

Ragdoll…HLH wants the first interview after the verdict. Little do they know it will cost them big bucks. Their ratings are sky high good for business. They said the jury walked into the court room looking straight ahead. Didn’t even glance at Defense. Of course when they sit down their straight across from them.
It took the Grand Jury 35 minutes to reach a decision.
I really don’t care any more cause if she is freed she will always be looked at as guility. Remenber OJ. Karma caught up with him and his home is a cell.
Thank you Blink, uplifting & lighthearted to boot. Just so all know- there is nothing that speaks accident to me in regard to Caylee’s death. But, I was one of many aghast at the conclusion of OJ vs State of Calif. A defect in my DNA causes me to prepare for the worst- that way things can only become better.

Myers…Eloise……you have got it right about the big fight on the night of the 15th. The fight was prompted by Cindy being told by her mother, Shirley Plesia, during the Father’s Day visit, that Casey had stolen from an account used for the grandfather’s care. This was pretty much the last straw for Cindy…and she confronted Casey. Huge fight…choking incident…Casey was “thrown out” or left on her own in the night (per your info from Shirley Plesia). Respectfully snipped.
Didn’t Shurley tell LE investigators that she confronted Cindy about the nursing home check earlier, as in April? I’m almost sure of this. But I would have to do some document reading which my computer refuses to accomodate easily.
And records show that Cindy made good on the check and repaid the account in May? I’m almost sure that is what happened.
Therefore, if there was a fight on the evening of the 15th, and I am not dismissing that story, it had to be about something else. Perhaps about Cindy taking Caylee and throwing Casey out on the street.
Of course, Shirley is an elderly lady and may have given Rick’s ex
a different or imcomplete account.

Cindy propbably fell on her sword and lied cause her Mother of the year Casey was going to tell the story of the fight that noc. If Cindy didn’t lie the defense would have probably said she choked Casey and some how Caylee got head injury or broken neck during the fight. i believe the reason the fight of the 15th was not brought up was that because it stemmed from casey’s fraud which was not allowed to be discussed in this trial. i think that is also why shirley pleasea didn’t get called to testify. everything regarding her check fraud/theft was to be omitted from the caylee trial.
also, i do believe that caylee was killed that night and that any sightings of her after that date were either fabrications or mistaken recollections. i believe caylee was killed out of rage.
I hope everyone, including you Blink get’s a chance for a good nights sleep. Speaking for myself- Waking up at 730-800. Reading, watching the beginning of the trial day, getting ready for work. Work till 7pm, come home, eat, visit w/ the fam, read, watch the days trial till ? 1am and repeat. I’ve been exhausted, never mind the dog hair I vacuumed away today- I know that’s gross, but it’s been a daily shedding problem w/ the weather. I have probably shared too much. lol.
The two most unpleasant talking heads during this whole fiasco have been Ms. Janie Weintraub and Ms. Linda Kinney Baden. These two people would never concede a point to any prosecutorial effort. It seems like the only people on tv who see reasonable doubt in this case are defense attorneys. And I agree with those who thought JVM running after Mason and Baez was funny. She really thought her BFFs would coment for her. She seemed to be begging Jose, like “Hey Jose, I have said good things about you in the past, how about a comment”. lol And I love the Jinkasaurus comment. That’s what my husband has called her all along.
Blink – I am a lurker mainly because you have an amazing insight and the posters here are the dang bomb and express what I want to say in a much better way than I would say it. It’s been 3 years and, imo, the light is shining thru the end of the tunnel. I believe that Casey got ASHTONIZED and Linda BROUGHT it home!! Caylee’s small voice was heard loud and clear! Well, while we’re waiting for a verdict, I suppose I can tell you all that I was recently arrested for what police have described as “criminal hijinx.” Not sure where they get the “criminal” part. All I did was throw banana peels in the hallway of a nursing home and pull the fire alarm. I conspicuously slipped out of sight before mayhem (and I imagine multiple hip fractures) ensued. Then I got cocky. I dressed up in Hawaiian-print OR scrubs and blended in with the radiology staff at a local hospital. After making lewd noises on the hospital intercom, security was called. I tried hiding out in the records room but the on-duty nurse got suspicious when I told her I (calling myself Dr. Rosen-Rosen) was looking for the Beatles white album. Police showed up before I could escape with a bag of narcotic analgesics and jello packets from the hospital cafeteria.
Any attorneys in the house????
I apologize for my dark side. Let’s agree I have no tasteful way to crack the hell up at this, except to say, if this cracks u the hell up, and relieves the angst that is sweet Caylee, go with it.

Appreciate all the input. I am totally terrified of the outcome. After watching the O.J. simpson case, I realize anything can happen.
As to the words talking heads are saying that Casey mouthed while LDB was presenting closing arguments that this was not George’s fault and she never blamed her mother, I am no lip reader but let’s just say that that is what she is saying. Does this girl think that if she is found not guilty that mouthing those words will get her back into the Anthony home?
The last couple of days I have noticed that George and cindy do not seem as close to one another. If this girl is found not guilty, I just can’t see Cindy and George’s marriage surviving it and that would be sad because that is exactly what Casey has wanted all along.
I betcha that Casey and Jose have had convo’s about her getting a job at his law firm if she is found not guilty, and if that is the case, Jose’s marriage could be headed for a disaster also. JMO
You know when Caylee was suppose to be missing, Casey said she could feel it in her gut that Caylee was still close and ok, Well I hope her gut is speaking to her again and telling her nothing but lies. Hopefully the lie of her walking out on Mason’s arm. I really hope she believes her gut so she can feel the pain when the verdict comes back and tells her the only thing touching those arms are some shiny silver handcuffs. Some where there is a pile of the emails that Shirley P and her son shared. He shared his with LE. Rick I think it was. My understanding was that Shirley had reported this to the bank as a withdrawal she had not done, and some how the bank traced the withdrawal to ICA, was Grampas account. Shirley reported this to Cindy. Don’t know when it happen.
That poor sweet GRandma Shirley, can you imagine what she has been threw. Remenber she said Casey hated Cindy more than she loved Caylee. I hope they are doing well and I am glad they where not involved in this. Noticed none of the family have gotten them selves involved. Surpise Suprise! There is something wrong here. I laugh to myself everytime I think of those words.

A brand new day-Go Jury! Justice for Caylee!
I believe because Mr. Ashton referred to Casey’s continuous lies as new version 3.0 (as in an updated lie).
IMO verdict will be in by the end of the day today. Praying hard for jurors and justice for little caylee.
I have not posted here in quite a while, and normally post on the Morgan Harrington site. However I enjoy reading the many articles written by Blink and comments from the BOC members. I find both to be very informative, entertaining, and thought provoking.
A beautiful little girl named CAYLEE and her subsequent death and disposal had pulled me in to the suffocating vortex, that is “The Anthony Family”, for the last three years. I am Thankful this trial is over and with it’s completion Justice, at last, for Caylee. I find no redeemable qualities in the entire Anthony family, and realize Casey is the very EVIL product of said family. “The apple does not fall far from the Tree”, and I thank God Caylee has been spared that poison environment. What will become of this family, I do not know nor do I care. They have their own HELL to live in.
Having read the many articles and many comments on this blog, I am well aware that Jose Baez is looked upon as a reprehensible buffoon, and I once held that same opinion. However, as I watched the trial, I began to realize that we need the “JOSE BAEZ”S” of the world. Someone who will take the abuse of a public that needs a villain to defend a villain. How does one get up everyday of their life for three years knowing they have committed to defending a sociopath. Someone has to do it—that is what the justice system is all about. The moment the jury began listening to the REAL Casey on that phone call to her family, I realized what Mr. Baez was up against. Can you imagine 3 years with that psychotic little bitch?? He has paid for his mistake , and I am amazed he did as well as he did with little to work with. I found him to be better than expected in death penalty defense, fair in his treatment of Ashton’s courtroom conduct, and I think He connected with the jury in his closing. Even though he had the client from HELL , he stuck by her, and did right by her, knowing she was everything the prosecution said she was. I never thought I would say this, but I gotta give the guy credit–he gained a considerable amount of respect in my eyes.

I think the jury will take their time going through each charge and the evidence relative to each charge. The only crimes proven with the evidence submitted are providing false information to LE and the disposal of Caylee Anthony`s body. If you cannot prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt, you must assume innocence.

Any lip readers will have a field day with this one.
Over 4 minutes of close-up Casey before HHJP enters, and then more close ups of her in conversation with Simms after HHJP dismisses the jury.
Casey drops the hand over mouth technique and seems angry about either defense team or her accommodations there in the courthouse cell perhaps ?? (she seems to motion towards the guards a few times)
Who knows what … but she’s quite animated as she speaks to Dot Simms.

I wondered why she googled shovel in the first place. Did she not know what a shovel is? Forensics found no evidence of soil, etc., on the shovel. Maybe she didn’t think to google ‘how to use a shovel’.

Thank you to all that answered M Harris question- I was here off on on throughout yesterday, sneaking in time to read, but could not write back without alerting the family to my absence LOL.
Lots of great posts.
M Harris, it is just as others wrote, basically Jeff Ashton changed Casey to Casey 3.0- and I became overly sensitive. I chalk it up to my emotions running on overload.
-To those that are asking questions about the truth of what happened- I am looking forward to Blink finally being able to lay it all on the line.
I know she has so much to say, and she has held back for a myriad of reasons. I await her finally getting to speak freely. I am working on my question sheet now, I hope she is ready.
Other than Blink filling in the blanks for us, sadly I do not think we will ever know the whole truth, although LE, Mr George, mr Ashton, Ms. Drane Burdick did their absolute best.
Cindy and Co will forever continue the lies and Casey will move on to versions 6.0 and so on.
I am sure there will be those who will write books, but IMO unless it is written by members of the prosecution, I do not think much truth will be included.
I hope that in the aftermath, the spot where Caylee Anthony was left, will become a memorial garden or a park.
I find it still so sad that it seems to still be nothing more than an eyesore. Wouldnt it be great if it became a park, filled with flowers and happy children… Families gathering to spend time with their children. I vote it be called sunshine park.
My prayers are with the jury today as they continue their deliberations.
My thoughts continue to be with Blink and the prosecution, & with all of you- as we hope for justice for Caylee.

IMO the criminal justice system would be better off without the likes of JB
Yes he defended his client- but he did it with little to no regard for the court or its rules. He tried to weasel his way around every order ect. he did little to nothing for the first two years, except go on media tours and spout misinformation.
He played the family, and the public for fools and IMO helped his client prolong the suffering. IMO he helped his client harm many people, while lining his own pockets, and searching for the best home/ media slots for his up and coming rising star- himself.

I have always wondered…do defense attorneys EVER admit that they KNOW their client was guilty whether they win or lose the case or is this something they take to their graves?
I still wonder if Casey threatened to kill little Caylee during her last fight with Cindy?
What if people had to pay to be allowed to have a baby? How about being required to complete a long term parenting class? Maybe our children would be safer…

I agree with Mom3.0 (she’s much more eloquent and kind with her opinions than I am).
My take…Jose Baez is no hero. If anything, this whole process has revealed his character. No regard for the bar, rules, due process, innocent people..don’t get me started on the double standards. He isn’t courageous, he’s incorrigible. He didn’t rise to the occassion, he took advantageous of a situation to further his own cause. He is not a stand up guy. He is unethical and deviant.
It’s too bad. If he had channeled his true potential and didn’t under estimate his abilities, he could have been a fine DA. Instead, he resorted to underhanded tactics and belittled seasoned legals to sooth his ego. You cannot disrespect the courts and the judicial system. He crossed unthinkable lines. He really should be a member of the mafia. He could pull off a Whitey Bulger. His mind is condusive to the under world element.
This was nothing more than a 3 year endorsement for his JB, himself.

Right? I had to go through what seemed to be a psych eval to adopt an abused shelter doggie (Lucy Girl, second only to Mr. Vness as the love of my life), but any schmoe off the street can have a child. Responsible, patient, kind, caring or not.
